Zet0r. Cause of how often the 'story charms' looked like bread in various state of toast
-
I know at least one dbd content creator who'd go additionally batshit over it
-
It's a two-edged sword (HAH!):
on one hand, it doesn't feel as if a lot of love and care goes into the game at all:
- Bugs coming back after being fixed seem to stem from updates being done on older versions and not much care is given into fixing what would still be broken there.
- PTB being much too short for it to bring good results + it doesn't seem as if most people actually test things to breaking point (like, from the top of your head, can you name stuff that was only 'discovered' after something went live despite it should have been found on PTB but wasn't because no one seemed to care to actually test the new stuff? Also there's no real encouragement to test stuff to breaking point.
- With the most money being made through cosmetics at the end of the day, these are often very underwhelming and rarely worth 5-15 bucks (community outfits not withstanding, those are usually awesome.)
- An overall feeling that the game is MADE to be as frustrating as possible.
However, on the other hand a game like DbD is hard to balance and manage.
You have a broad variety of players that will like/dislike various things, and separating the wheat from the chafe is taxing, tricky and time-consuming.
For every good suggestion for an issue there'll be heaven knows how many bad ones, not even yet counting comments on a good suggestion that seem to boil down to 'no if we do this I would not be able to get an unfair advantage over others anymore! you MUST not do that!'
Dbd does a lot wrong, but it also does quite a number of vital things right, so, it's really a bizarre equilibrium between 'labor of love' and 'labor of loathe', from an outside point of view.

I struggle to fathom why this killer was made. They're only good at the least fun playstyles this game has to offer. I know that's an opinion, but Hag/Twins/etc don't exactly have a high pick rate on killer or win popularity contests on survivor. It's easy for me to armchair quarterback and I'm not a dev, but this is mostly a solved problem in 2022 DbD, right? Players historically don't like area control/game stall playstyles, so why make a killer based around it in 2022?
my best guess is to fieldtest their bot ai or something?

I'm just glad you acknowledged the pointless tribalism. I really think that attitude is one of the worst part about this community. I play primarily killers and I don't want survivors to have to deal with these dogwater skill checks, even if it costs me the occasional wiggle. Just feels bad.
a (not-so) fun fact on the note of wiggling... which is a bug in its own right, but I think we now also have the bug that hooks will spawn clustered extremely close to the map's center, rendering about 75% of the map deadzone.

It feels awful. Don't make this an us vs. them thing, that's petty as hell.
I know it's petty, and I apologise. However, sadly thsi is very a lot of changes seem to stem from.

It's supposed to be that way. You were basically doing the gen on your own. Because for them, instead of progressing the gen, they're storing that progress which they can deposit later onto another gen. Very useful in breaking 3-gens.
unless they get hit before they can release the energy.
-
@Sonzaishinai said:
I think the gen store perk is better then it looks on paper
If you work on a gen in the corner of the map where the killer won't come anyone you are bassically working on the next gen slower but 100% safe
Could be wrong but i think it's going to be a sleeper perk
I was thinking of that, but in practice, how often do you get to do that? And have it turn into an advantage? If the killer is off flouncing across a different part of the map, you might as well repair the gen (if it's a safe one, aka not contributing to endin with a 3gen). there's really little scenarios I can think off where the perk might come in handy. it's a good concept, but it needs some tuning
-
Also: SO MANY tiles that just fatshame. bhvr, if it looks like nemesis can pass through a gap, everyone SHOULD be able to and not get stuck on an invisible wall between two BRICKS

I do agree that some people will DC when you do not play into how they want the game to gi, but that doesn't mean slinger is unloopable, you can keep him busy for a long time.
never said he's unloopable, but by all means, I'd say by design he's meant to be avoided
-

Since his changes I can asure you looping him is not hard at all.
I -main- slinger, I'm saying this from the perspective of someone who is tired of people DCing if you go 'yeah, you know what, you're running straight for that loop, I'm going after your friend over there', and these people STILL sticking around to complain how 'looping is a must in the game, because points'... like... sweetheart, no.
-
@Sandt21 said:
Translation: Survivors really don't like going against a killer who isn't loopable
It'd be great if the game would finally reward approaching different killers differently.
Deathslinger's the best example. By design he's not meant to be engaged in a chase. But the game does not reward staying out of his sight. Instead the points are just the same kind as you'd get for looping a killer like e.g. trapper or huntress.

so because you yourself have that one match you dont enjoy (which happens to anyone) you ruin the game for the other 4 players.. Got ya.
Nice try, but you know how reality looks. And didn't you once complain about people bringing boons or BNP? Look, at least do us the favor and say you want an iWin button, then go and uninstall the game, thank you.

i barely with eruption lol
the one time i played with it was on ghostie in eyrie of crows which didn't do much lol
and boons are every damn game.
Than this has to be a regional issue. I'm seeing the polar opposite much more commonly:
No boons (unless I bring them), but eruption galore
-
to be fair:
how often do you HAVE 3 boons at once vs how often do you have eruption?
-
Let's be honest:
In this game, dcing/hook suicide is pretty much the only way to stave off the intense frustration.
Killer is slugging at 5 gens? Why give them a 4k?
Tunneling, camping? If you are barred from playing the game, why stay in the match?
People cleansing totems they know you wanted to boon? By experience they are usually the same who will throw a tantrum if you don't heal them fast enough, why play with such people?
By all means, either the dc penalty gets removed, or the game finally punishes scummy behavior directly (point reduction, hindering effects etc)

Yup yup. The mobile version was coded from scratch, and is wayyyyyyyy more stable.
well, at the end of the day I hope we'll get the recoded version around the next anniversary, cause a smoothed out code could/should also allow for more dynamic maps and point events

This. I wish there was the opportunity to recode DBD from the ground up, stamping out years-old bugs and allowing for a proper thorough optimization.
This would so greatly help the game for us all, and they also could then put in a replay system as well, something everybody wants.
I think they ARE recoding it bit by bit (which is why we got the weird bugs with e.g. plague's attack that triggers the sound and animation but not the statuseffect) it's just... such a mess, and doing it bit by bit is probably not a good idea to begin with
-
Judging by the text for the skins, this is canon. To Feng, RE, SH, etc are fiction. The real question is: How mayn licensed chars got the entity's attention BECAUSE they had fans amongst the survivors
-
Yes, the game has the mechanics to counter bad gameplay and in general add things to make playing more interesting/enjoyabe for both sides. But I think for that the code needs to be thoroughly cleaned up first. Cause, hell, we still have it that two different collision-checks (one of which should not even exist anymore by bhvr's info) call various functions in the code, leading to nothing but nonsensical hit (or lack thereof)
-
I'm more worried at the perks going through mostly unchanged. because, lbr, as they are all six new perks have such an absurd potential for being just used to be toxic on either side.
-

So you're implying Pinky was insanely intelligent?
The themesong NEVER stated that The Brain is the genius.
-
said it before, saying it again:
it is theoretically possible to get a good, decently working SBMM into DbD but for that a lot of things need to be done beforehand:
- there need to be better tutorials, that actually give people an idea of how to play as/against certain killers well
- The game needs to genuinely punish bad behavior/playstyles and reward good ones.
Especially the latter will absolutely drive off a great chunk of the 'but tunneling/camping/slugging are totally legit tactics' (and who might even try to justify it with LORE) but, well, good riddance to them then.
-
Also:
No drop points off the balcony to the outside
so many tiny things to get stuck on. Like... that is a TWIG. why does it have a collision box the size of huntress' hitbox???

Instadown is already blocked when endurance is active.
then there's another bug to add to the list, cause I still see bubba mow survivors down through endurance...
-
Not removed, but overhauled and made more dynamic.
(Okay, badham needs to be cuts down to one map, why the hell does it still have 5 near identical iterations ?)
Dynamic in the sense that maps adjust slightly to killers and their build.
For example:
If you play a killer with great map mobility AND a strong gen control build, the map could get a bit larger, with more hiding and cover spots (cover spots as in survs can spot you while working on a gen well, but you don't have a clear line of attack) and easier to find totems etc.
While if you have low map mobility and barely any gen control, the map could get smaller.
-
There's a couple of things that can be done, as the mechanics are already there:
Like 'monstrous shrine' only works when you're at least 20m away from a hook, bhvr could have insisidious stop working within 30m of a hook.
They changed it that you can't be blinded when grabbing a survivor from a locker anymore, so they can have it that you can't be insta-downed when unhooking (while grabbing and getting knocked down) still work. They could make instadowning impossible when endurance is active.
All the mechanics needed for all of the above are already in the game and on display.
Would it piss off a bunch of players and even make them leave the game for good?
Yes, please and thank you. Good riddance
-
Personally I do hope they go back for more mix and match in terms of looks etc. Also that they give the new surv clothing from his timeperiod.
-
^^^ The playstyle seems to have the bigger impact, if we get down to it. because all in all there's 5 different styles clashing each match, even if it's killer vs 4manSWF. while a swf can have more coordination, they still have to adjust to the killer's playstyle, and the killer has to adjust to theirs... and the map.

I believe you unlock them once you get all the entries. Don't quote me though
usually yes, but the entries always have a marker for the videos. of the current entries only the last one has one.
Or, potentially they might be added in with the new chapter patch... because, lbh: it might be a ghostface face reveal (his driver's license pic not withstanding)
-
Deadzoning through broken hooks is the killer's version of 3-genning. Either both go or both stay.
-
Since the rework it's gotten a bit easier for me. to the point I can easily cut off survivors/not run straight into killers trying to cut me off. Once you figured where the important landmarks are it gets easier (e.g. the stairs down behind the left archway on the mainhall (when you look at the statue) or the stairs off the roof lead to where the basement can spawn. it's either under the stairs or down the stairs from the room with green wallpaper and an exit
-
^^^ There's a bunch of great 'out of bounds' vids for dbd, and it's quite interesting how some stuff is achieved...
also I think i order to have a now wonky shadow they'd have to add in stuff that would def up the system requirements 10fold (or at least significantly)

I hope season 2 will have at least one or two eps from the killer's perspective.

didn't they actually have a 'point at the killer' challenge once?

Yeah I agree but how to solve that?
I would wait longer in queue to NOT have to verse Pinhead, Trickster, Legion or Twins (I rarely see the latter though) but I understand they cant give players an option to not queue against certain killers, as we all know Nurses and Blights etc would never be able to play the game as most people would block them.
This is a problem as games are supposed to be fun but the way DBD works is you get put into matches that are not (subjectively) 'fun' for the individual and I don't know how you can make them want to play something they don't enjoy?
One thing that comes to mind would be that you can outright tell the game 'don't put me in matches with killer X', and have it a limited number (like a max of 5 or such).
The other part of this is something that has come up before: the game needs to start punishing scummy behavior (and reward good one). The mechanics to do so are there, several perks and abilities use them already.
It would be a ton of finetuning, though
-
@MaTtRoSiTy said:

Lol... but in all seriousness, Pinhead or Trickster and Nurse seem to be almost guaranteed to have a team mate exit themselves first hook. Nurse match a few games back the second a team mate heard the first blink they DC'd lol
Because they are frustrating. The game itself is already damn frustrating to go against (to the point where it feels it's like that ON PURPOSE), so... dcing or hooksui is pretty much the only option available.
-
OP, have you tried stopping to play clown/pinhead?
-
I almost said they mighta been afraid of the codpiece, but 1. that's 15th century, and two, I have seen how the modeled slinger's 'nude' model. I don't think they'd be scared to model a codpiece
-
Having had people who brought noed and shattered and then dced because noed didn't activate BECAUSE THEY THEMSELF GOT RID OF ALL THE TOTEMS... this would be hilarious.
That said, there are few maps on which you might miss the activation thunder, so the best you can do is get a feeling for where totems usually spawn and pay attention to where survs run to narrow down the area. And let's be honest:
Boons are not that much a threat that it would justify making SH basekit to begin with.
-
Well, it's 'you reap what you sow'. When you drive off nearly all the decent players with excuses for bad behavior on either side, constantly bemoaning how 'X is a totally legit tactic' and other 'git gud' level nonsense, respond to people pointing it out in condescending on mocking tones like 'do you want us to hold survivors hand/stand still for the killer/etc'... well, how are you surprised people who try/tried to make matches fair, fun and challenging left for greener pastures or only play swf/kyf?
How?
-

How about if you're Oni and you've just activated your power and quickly downed someone. Should you give up the power that you took time to build up and not chase the other survivors? That's nuts.
And yes, as a killer you could ignore a survivor who runs directly into you but why should you? How are they going to learn to have more awareness of their surroundings/better gameplay? Why is it the killer's responsibility to overlook a mistake the survivors, his opponents, have made?
And there it is, the WhatAboutBait.
