    So, here's my take.

Gen rushing isn't a real thing. What I mean by that is, gens do go fast yes; But being that it's literally the survivors only objective, and therefore slapping a label on it like they have some alternative motive behind it other than the fact that it's all they're given to do is a bit silly.

Contrary to what the person a few posts up said, it is not bad gen pressure on the killers part. Some killers are incapable of getting across a map even the size of Ormund before 1 or 2 gens are popped, and that's if they go in a straight line. So it's unfair to say it's bad gen pressure on killers, it's more the lack of ability for non mobile killers to apply said pressure. It will only get worse now because ruin was nerfed before the issue was solved (which is maps, not gen times) @Peanits .

As for tunneling, not everyone does it, and there certainly are reasons to do it. Like, if you bring a key, I think it's fair to expect to be tunneled. Or if you're an 4 stack SWF with toolboxes, it's safe to say the best play the killer could make is eliminating one of you ASAP.

Tunneling isn’t a real thing either. It’s the killers objective to do just that, kill.

  • @Notactuallyhim said:

This needs to be explained so killer mains can understand.

Why actual tunneling and gen rushing are different.

Gen rushing=survivors enter map and all immediately leap on generators (or if they came in together they jump on one.)

The killer player is still playing freely the entire time. If the survivors are together then he can still use perks or guard specific gens for a 3 gen strat. Gen time together was also nerfed.

If survivors are all on 4 separate gens he can go to any of multiple gens, and attack someone. Still playing freely. He can attack, lob bottles, guard gens, etc.

Tunneling: when a killer main specifically dedicates himself to killing a specific survivor fast as possible. Hooking that person fast as possible, guarding and/or downing them again as fast as possible. The survivor is not getting to play freely, he is spending his time on the hook and likely getting down seconds after being unhooked, then being hooked again for the most limited, restricted, and miserable experience possible. Survivors don't exactly have flamethrowers or pocketknives.

For a simple comparison:imagine playing Star Wars Battlefront. If your team is losing badly you can still give it your best shot. Flank the enemy, surprise attacks, etc. You can still play freely and make a valiant last stand, jump in a tank, put a turret down and duck and shoot from cover, etc.

Now imagine playing Star Wars Battlefront and instead of your team losing badly, an invinceable player dedicates themselves to killing you as soon as you spawn and your gameplay consists of running away then dying quickly. The other people on your "team" might win, but you're not playing freely, the game might as well a downgraded phone edition without half the game. Who on earth in their right mind would spend their free time on that?

Not really sure why you keep specifying “killer mains” as if that’s some sort of requirement to tunnel.

I also love how you compare two completely opposite and incomparable tactics.

A killer tunnels because of or to: A) remove a “toxic” survivor, B) secure a kill, C) they’re not a great chaser, D) That’s their strategy

You’re mad because a SOLO player, that being the killer decided to eliminate ONE of FOUR survivors in a strategic fashion.

During a tunnel, 3 other survivors have the opportunity to literally finish about 3.5-4 generators.

What’re you complaining about? Being tunneled results in that survivor contributing to the team by taking away the killer attention and time (which is essential to killers). You’re comparison to a FPS isn’t usable in this case because you are still assisting your team indirectly.

    Gg.

Any seasoned killer is probably not going to care much about points, or emblems. If I want points, I slap on BBQ and a pudding/streamer and can get upwards of 80-90k a game. If I don't have BBQ, the build is made for a 4k. Emblems are a joke and you can 4k depip if you don't play the game nice enough.

Securing your kills is a way to win, same with tunneling weak survivors off the hook. It's usually not worth it to camp from 1st hook to dead, but 2nd hook to dead? Absolutely.

Tunneling someone off if they don't have DS and are bad in a chase? That is optimal killer gameplay.

Ranking system is flawed anyways. I was a red rank killer, before I quit caring, and placed with Greens and Yellows. So playing for rank is honestly pointless. I play for BP and just for enjoyment. If I want to camp someone, oh well. I play more “toxic” survivors than I do killers.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1004151#Comment_1004151

Well, let’s take a look at it, if your hook camping a troll who’s been running a strat that may or may not be taking advantage of an exploit, that’s acceptable, you taking away a toxic player, though with a toxic strat on your part as well, however when you hook camp a survivor on first hook, with 5 gens still undone, and either force them to escape and struggle or dc, that’s just being toxic. Thank you for bringing that up

It’s my choice. If I choose to hook someone with 5 gens up, it’s not my problem if the survivors aren’t playing optimally to take advantage.

Camping is a strategy just as much as looping. It’s a great way to get rid of an annoying survivor.

Call it toxic if you want, it’s a strategy as much as looping.

  • @Trappers_anonymous said:

As a play who mostly plays as a killer, I’m used to receiving messages after games, the occasional trash talker when I have a bad game, the abundance of “GG”s that I genuinely enjoy seeing good gam or not, but one message that has flooded my inbox is “thank you for not camping hook” or some variation. I had always thought it was an unspoken rule that once you hook a survivor, you move, not only to hunt others, but to also give them a chance to be unhooked, as to make the game fair and fun. After a few games played as survivor, I had 7 different killers camp the hooks, many of them new, a few veterans as well. I’m writing this in hopes of sparking a discussion on the topic, as well as hopefully showing new players that this isn’t the respectful way to play.

What is the respectful way to play then?

Survivors Logic: Killer must leave the game for it to be fair. All survivors are entitled to an escape.

Most of the time, camping is a result of some tactic a survivor used that made the killer want to get rid of them quickly. Or it’s a last resort for a kill.

Agreed, tho,a not that serious question. Why does the quote says;"the devs don't listen&quot?

We may found a new glitch!!

it shows to me what your title is, so I’m not sure.

  • @CLAUDETTEINABUSH said:

Off topic; this is my 100th post,so wahooo!!!!

Into the real topic. I've been looking around forums, left and right and everyone that is mad about the ruin changes say the same thing; "devs don't play their game, devs don't listen to killers". Since my dream job is becoming a dev,in any game really,I'll explain why I think devs listen, with some proof for the intellectuals.

Patch 3.4,November 2019,the death of balanced landing, along with some undetectable buffs.

Patch 3.2.0, September 2019, undetectable and oblivious are added to the game. Along with the new dlc, stranger things.

Patch 3.2.1, September 2019,shred now breaks pallets by default.

Patch 3.1.0,July 2019,Freddy got his rework, making him the most lethal killer according to behavior's polls and information that they gathered. Freddy's rework was a success and Freddy got a lot of love.

I could continue, but I didn't wanna bother to put too much information. Moral of the story is that devs actually hear the communities opinion. They have to put some priorities. The doctor and the ruin reworks were leaked to get a buff, and the devs are thinking alternatives for ruin. The devs aren't survivor sided and of course they play their game. It is difficult to balance a game,so I believe we should let them do their work.

Think it like this; a Dev on dbd has around 3-4+ years game balancing experience in this game,I don't even count if they worked for other games before. They have 3-4 more years of balancing than we all do. So my suggestion is to keep calm, and move on.

I was also really frustrated,at first, about the ruin changes. I said it was "a beginning of a new era" and indeed it is,but not a bad one. If you honestly want to quit playing killer,or the game in general, because they altered an addition to the game that was ruining new player's experiences, then you are the problem not the game.

It is justified to be angry at these changes, but please stop uploading forums like "any suggestions for a new game, cuz the devs on this one don't give a 💩" or "devs don't listen" or even "I'm quitting dbd". It is hard to see these kind of posts,so just stop doing that.

I am aware about the comments I'll receive, but I'll still upload this. I'm not afraid to help the community, the game and the devs to this hard trip.

Please, tell me your opinion down below. I am interested to hear from you guys.

Guess it will be a happy 100th forum for me :3

Personally, idgaf. I’ve played plenty of games over the years, never paid attention to Patch Notes or “buffs/nerfs”.

its a game. Not my life. If you hate the developer for the game they’ve created and altered, move on to a new one.

Also, you can’t build a player base if new players aren’t welcome. The majority of this community despises anything that assists new players; which is why most of my IRL friends won’t touch this game. It’s unfriendly to newbies.

I apologize if it came out as if I was attacking you. Not my intention.

And as I stated before, I understand why people tunnel, it is effective. However it completely sucks for said survivor being tunneled.

I have been a very ruthless killer in the past. Just now that I play survivor I try to be more understanding of the survivor's experience. It helps that I no longer care about rank as a killer. When pipping is fixed for killers we may see people more willing to embrace "funner" tactics.

No problem. It seemed like you took shots at me lol.

I know it sucks being tunneled, but as a killer when 4 are alive and you’re down to 2-3 gens, what is better: Waste time playing “fair” or go for the survivor you know is on Death Hook?

    • Unhook me in front of the killer
    • Farm me
    • Run the killer around my hook or a hooked survivor
    • Not unhook me
    • Not work on gens
    • Wasting pallets
    • Teaming with the killer
    • Not heal me
    • Hide the entire game

honestly, solo play sucks most of the time lol.

Like the only reason people are toxic or really competitive in this game is because there's very little that the game gives you. Being mean and looking for reactions is in my opinion a large outcome of having a simple game with single game mode

    Very true.

  • @AshleyWB said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/993893#Comment_993893

The game refuses to let itself take off, there's just so many things they don't want get into and the new stuff that comes should have came when there were about 6 killers not 16 or however many it is.

Well, when you have 13 year olds and others continuing to purchase $10 outfits then they’ll never worry about anything else.

Balance sucks and the game becomes dull after a few matches because it’s repetitive.

  • @Clevite said:

Yeah there's toxicity on both sides. It's from the individual not the side they chose to play.

I always send gg to the killer after a game as survivor. Maybe because I played killer so long and can sympathize with the struggle.

Unless ofcourse their tunneling noobs than no gg for you.

As a killer I don't tunnel, nor camp so I don't get nasty messages

Lmao I see your indirect attack at me.

i didn’t camp and it’s not problem if I come back to the hook that a survivor is removed from only for the healthy survivor to SB away. Why waste my time on them? I go for the closest. Not my problem.

Gold and Iridescent Chaser emblems aren’t awarded if you camp. Tunneling is part of the game.

Guys, not all survivors are like that. Also, they haven't whined in a lot of time, they're getting their best assets (balanced landing imo was the best) nerfed, and haven't moaned at all, whereas one killer perk gets nerfed and it's like the end of the world. How are the sruvivors whiny then?

I am a 'neutral' player, meaning I play both survivor AND killer, and your comment is just not right, both sides have WHINY players, but not ALL of the survivor community are whiny, most just shut up and take it.

Please don't accuse all of the survivor mains for being 'winy'.

Well, for one, survivors have the most OP perks in game. Especially at High Reds. But idc.

In the last month or two there's been a lot of negative posts about people saying they are going to up and drop DbD! Many of these posts are just general complaints, but others do lay out good criticisms. I'm in a bit of a rut aswell and have been for the last few weeks.

So here I am, asking the community reasons TO PLAY rather than TO LEAVE for once! Let's remember why we all got to love this game in the first place.

If you ignore rank and rewards through winning the game is actually enjoyable.

Most users complaining are very experienced red ranks that have hundreds-thousands of hours of game time.

My group, we play for fun. Whether it’s dying immediately or dying in EGC; with escapes or not.

as a killer, go in with zero expectations. 1-2 kills is better than none, so don’t sweat for a 4K or get upset about playing a strong team.

if you ignore what most consider toxic gameplay, the game is actually very fun.

  • Freddy and Spirit were nerfed? When? I still play fine with them.

"Survivors have to clean the rust from the generator first"?

Oh my god, ruin change was too painful! 😂

    Always that one guy.

and no, it was an idea that I find to be interesting. It’s becomes an objective Survivors have to do before they can start on a specific generator.

  • @Kagari_Leha said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/119373/generator-idea

If something like that existed, I think it should be reversed, as early game is actually the hardest moment for the killers.

But also not be about gen completion as it would be unfair to make games 40 minutes long because Freddy uses Pop and nobody can finish the first gen

Well, I don’t believe games would be 40 minutes long, but maybe just have a slower Early game that speeds up as generators are completed. You can still work on multiple generators.

  • @mouse0270 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/985013#Comment_985013

    I missed that sorry.

My biggest concern about progressively slowing down the game is your making a snowball effect that just insures the killer gets a 4k.

Now I personally believe that the game should be balanced around a 2k as average for the killer. Slowing the gens down when there are more of them, will allow the killer more time to find and hopefully hook survivors.

However, if you slowed the game down as the players went on you could easily abuse the system by either tunneling and mori survivors easily at the start causing making it harder and harder for survivors to get complete gens and snowballing yourself into a 4k.

Yes, without a doubt. I agree on the 2k average, as that means the games balanced.

now if the devs put in some time to test out speeds on this, I believe it could work. Maybe just progressively speeding it up would be better though. It gives the killer and survivors enough time to plan and if the killer did tunnel or camp, the gens will only be completed faster?

  • @mouse0270 said:

You should flip your logic, otherwise that is really just a massive boost for the killer.

    • Early Game (5-4) Generators take 100 Seconds to repair by a single survivor
    • Mid Game (3) Generators take 90 Seconds to repair by a single survivor
    • Late Game (2-1) Generators take 80 Seconds to repair by a single survivor

This would give the killer more setup time but wouldn't punish survivors once one or two of them are killed.

The initial idea is to progressively slow down, but I did say “or flip this around”

I think it would spice the game up

  • @BrendanLeeT said:

Not sure if we're allowed to mention other games but Identity V (Feel free to remove the name if not, sorry!) apparently has something similar and at the start of the game the machines (if they are called that) are slower to help the killer gain momentum. I don't play that game and I've only stated what I've heard so if you play that game and I'm wrong, feel free to roast me.

    Hahaha never played it!

I don’t want to lean towards one side or the other because I enjoy both. Having a rusting effect that needs to be cleared can prevent Survivors just running around tapping all gens causing them to make noise. It can also encourage strategy. Spread out and clean as many generators and then start repairing them.

This doesn’t have to coincide with my other idea.

Maybe it would coincide well with the current Ruin change?

  • @Seanzu said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/984909#Comment_984909

I feel like as a whole, this would make the game less enjoyable (I know survivor enjoyment meme etc) but this is honestly just punishing survivors for doing their objective, while giving killers more time to kill because the survivors are succeeding.

Everything done is a punishment to one side or the other.

I believe it’s a good middle ground. The % can be less, I’m not sure on the stats on how much it impacts generators, that’s up to the devs. However, the slowdown can be reversed. Game starts off slow and picks up the pace every time a generator is completed.

Survivors are still equipped with toolboxes. It would just cause survivors to be more strategic. Under this concept: Crowd one gen = less time to finish others due to the potential slowdown PER gen, spread out and you can take advantage of a quicker pace by eliminating or progressing generators at a non-slowed speed.

  • I’m not sure if someone has said it already (didn’t read the entire thread).

What about decreasing gen speed per gen completed?

Early Game (5-4) Current Repair Speed

Mid Game (3) -5% Gen Repair Speed

Late Game (2-1) -10% Gen Repair Speed

    • % used is just an example

i guess i misread or something cause i didn't know lights on meant that killer vision is impaired also i see how it makes sense but i feel like as killer that map would be really obnoxious

I just didn’t specify on that.

Idk, I feel like it’d be pretty fun. Obviously it doesn’t have to be an impairment that completely nullifies your ability to see.

  • @ruler33 said:

that is the most ridiculously killer sided map i have ever heard cool design but the fact is dbd maps (well some of them at least) are already stupid dark and plus the gen speed getting slow downed when lights are of fis stupid also i love the ascetic so just remove the gen slow down and keep the lights at dim and i feel like it could be an awesome map

Not sure how it’s killer sided?

Lights on = Killer vision impaired

Lights off = Survivor vision impaired

Darkness = Slowed gen speed; because how are you repairing something you can’t see?

From a logical perspective, seems reasonable.

Idc about what the killer is or looks like but would make sense to have something that’s been in the dark long enough they have trouble in light.

I don't get all the killers who crutch on ruin being in such an outrage. There was only really a handful of killers it was needed on to be competitive, and even those you can 4k at red ranks without it. The best killers had already realize corrupt intervention was better in most cases.

In the meantime, almost every single patch in the past 1-2 years has been slowly but surely gutting survivors. Some of the killers are still incredibly overpowered and easy to play (freddy / hag come to mind), combined with the dedicated servers making no pallet or window truly safe anymore. Go for the pallet stun? Maybe he hits you, maybe he doesn't, who knows what will happen anymore? The new maps have pallets that are designed for good latency. Every unsafe pallet you need to stun the killer to really make use of, and going for stuns on dedicated servers is risky as hell.

All the new maps coming out are just absolute slaughtering grounds. Hawkins comes to mind, but the sanctum of wrath is also terrible. You will get maybe 6-7 pallets to use on the entire map, and an overpowered character like freddy can still just snare-lust you at literally any tile because the next safe pallet is usually still going to be 2 hits away.

I don't get the devs logic. They will prioritize doctor because "He is frustrating to play against" when there's still a ton of completely BS killers who are way more powerful and oppressive to play against. Take legion, if he sees you, you are injured. Sure, a good survivor can loop him for a while, depending on the map. But then you get him on Sanctum of Wrath or Shelter Woods, and drop 2 pallets and from then on that entire side of the map is a dead zone. I don't think he is overpowered, but he sees you, you are injured. That is way more annoying than doctor. "Oh no, the M1 killers know where I am!" is literally his entire kit.

You can be absolutely terrible at killer in this game and still down even the best of survivors eventually these days. Survivors are almost forced to run the same boring 3-4 perks because facecamping is so easy to do for cheap kills.

So personally, I welcome the ruin nerfs. And that is as a killer main, who is sad how easy and skilless the devs have let killer become.

Buddy, you’re asking for it.. I’ve already debated this before. Just a heads up, incoming emotions.

Again, matchmaking, in my experience, xbox, I can't generalize, toxicity roams low ranks, purple and red are amazing to play in, gen rushing is not toxic, it's a bad killer's fault on this ranks.

And as you can see, that's one of my arguments: CREATE A BOTS MODE (or it could be a casual mode) where you can do as you please, DC if you want, but stop nerfing killers to make the game more enjoyable to noobs or casual players... That is not the answer... Hey, I'm marking this: there have been justifiable nerfs in the past, but not lately.

If we don't give feedback, both good and bad, how are the Devs supposed to know what to change. Stop playing being a shill and understand that the people have the power to change what they want. Capiche?

Lmao far from a defeatist attitude. I’m just not

going to ######### about something the devs clearly don’t give a ######### about. The forums have imploded for the past few days because of this and what have the Devs done? Zilch.

In the past? Not #########. So keep whining and they’ll keep on shining because regardless you paid them already.

Indeed. I've got a metric butt ton of mori offerings between all my killers. Will I use them to kill all 4 survivors? Probably not, unless it's a team of blendys...but I will use it to tunnel and eliminate the first person out of the match ASAP.

    Part of the game.

While there are people that do behave like you said, there are people who have knowledge on both sides and still think devs make mistake. Also, the bias in this game is obvious, just read the ptb patch notes. "Doctor was frustrating to play against" Doctor was literally one of the weakest killers in game, and the reason for the changes are survivor complaints and not the obvious unbalance. Also, Ruin was used by 80 percent of killers, but the same is true for DS, DH, SB and other perks that are seing no changes. So it is quite obvious that the devs can't balance things and do have a tendecy to favor survivors, and complaints aren't "bitching", they are real feedback of a situation of unbalance in the game. The PTB is a real nightmare, 4 survivors spawn together and before a killer can even reach the gen it is popped because of map size and the ruin nerf.

The only people bitching are red ranks. Stop ruining the game for one another and you’d actually enjoy it.

    Crazy right.

Good sir, again, I'm sorry to say this is a SURVIVAL HORROR GAME, if you bought this thinking it would be easy to play...

In the most polite way I can say it, games like DBD, Last Year and even Secret Neighbour where the base is SURVIVING A KILLER should make you think that the survivor side is gonna be harder than the killer side

What does the "TRY TO SURVIVE" say to you?

DCing in any game is just not justifiable, now...

"If you can’t handle someone DCing then you’re in the same position as that person DCing."

Don't get me wrong, when I'm killer if someone DCs I don't get mad at it, I feel sorry for the team that now has to handle a good killer in a 3 v 1, which is why I tend to play on "easy mode" from that moment on, but lets be honest not everybody does this... And on the other side, if the killer felt so overwhelmed that he DCed then I feel pride for being better than the killer, again, IN A SURVIVAL HORROR GAME. Do you have any idea why TONS of games punish DCers? You affect your team, not the killer...

Since we’re comparing games, you do know most of games have a casual mode where DCs are unpunished?

Implement a rank mode, oh wait, they can’t because the player base is ######### due to the reasons in this argument.

1 … 3 4 5 6 7 … 12
