  • My build has been called unorthodox by a lot of the streamers I've watched my gameplay from their side of after the fact, but it's worked well for me and I do really like it. Note that this is without add ons since I hate being overly reliant on them. The goal of this build is to be on survivors as much as possible - it's not the popular hit and run style, but more of a "grind through survivors quickly" playstyle.

Thrilling Tremors: I don't run a ton of slowdown on this build, so this is my main "slowdown" coupled with knowing where to go next. Helps a lot in keeping the pressure on.

Surge: The main "weird" choice, but one I like a lot. Wraith has to M1 to down survivors, so it's consistent on him and keeps with the theme of the build to not bother with things that aren't survivors - you automatically regress gens near you and therefore can get on to your next chase faster.

StBFL: A really good pick for the style I play Wraith with, lets you turn your free first hit into a very quick second hit if you get your stacks up.

Nurses Calling/Make Your Choice/Flex Pick: I keep flip flopping between these two options because I really like them both, but if you hate them both then more stall like Pop or Corrupt is also a good choice here. NC lets you get easy downs due to the relatively free first hit Wraith gets, MYC gives you another option for quick snowballing if you haven't found someone by the time an unhook happens.

The most important tips I can offer:

Learn to walk up on gens without looking directly at them the whole time. Spine Chill is one of Wraith's biggest problems, but it's countered by approaching while looking at an angle...you'll hear the gen being worked on, you'll know if you should uncloak, and you should be uncloaking while behind a wall anyway to minimize their chance to run before you hit them.

Learn to mindgame tiles - your first hit is free if you do it right, your second hit is your weakest part of the game for Wraith. Learning to mindgame tiles and knowing how to run them will win you more games than anything else...brute forcing things just isn't good enough at higher ranks to win you many games as Mr. Bing Bong.

  • Nah, queue times would be faster on both sides if that were true, as is I've seen BOTH sides have longer queues since the new system. It's not working at all, I'm not pretending otherwise, but I don't think it's first come first served either.

  • I use prestige cosmetics if I don't have anything I like better for that slot. So my Wraith has the Hallowed Blight weapon but the other pieces are prestige because I really like the visuals of that combo. Legion once I get bored of the crown I'll go back to prestige mask, but the body and weapon are something I prefer to the prestige weapon so they won't make an appearance most of the time.

Both of my survivors are licensed so they get bloody all the time! (though I do swap to Bill's sweater if there's another bloody Bill in the lobby so the killer can tell us apart (as I've been facecamped for the other one's transgressions before))

  • I'm definitely a TT gamer myself, and I'm nowhere near maxed out.

@Orion Could you please do a few matches with your main then play a killer who you barely touch and see what the results are, please?

I wrote a longer post about this in a different thread, but I got babies as Wraith/Legion/PHead who I've played a ton, but my old main that I haven't played in ages, Nurse, got a competent group of solos.

The most obvious thing you will see when the new system is active is that there will be a greater variation of Ranks in a single match. Rank 1s playing Rank 20s? It’s possible, don’t panic when you see this, as Ranks are not a true indicator of a player’s skill and are no longer used for matchmaking.

huh if you did read it. and are upset over this change about ranks. shows your wrong. Because this part clearly says ranks are not not a true indicator of a player’s skill and are no longer used for matchmaking.

I'm not going to mention rank once in this comment. Instead, I'm going off of my experiences with the games, since if rank is meaningless all that matters is the experience.

Wraith, alongside Legion and PHead, have been my most played killers since I came back to the game shortly after Slinger released. I played all three very frequently (obviously PHead the least of the three since he's newer). Conversely, I did not touch my old main, Nurse, as I didn't feel up to regaining the muscle memory.

All three of them I was facing competent survivors who knew how to play against them (I was outright embarrassed as Pyramid Head a few times specifically).

My first game as Wraith after MMR hit, and I had people who, even after they knew I was Wraith, they didn't look around them. Had two of them hiding behind a hill and didn't run until my TR came back. Had one of the players, on death hook and injured, take a "protection hit" for someone I'd picked up right next to the hook this happened at.

My first Legion game after MMR hit, and I had survivors going down from mending timer, I had survivors thinking lockers were a safe thing from killer instinct. Another total slaughter.

My first PHead game wasn't quite that bad, but definitely people who didn't know how to even attempt a fakeout to get me to use my power. An easy game if not as painfully easy as the other two.

I tried Nurse for the first time in months, and got fairly competent survivors. Scraped a 1k but felt fairly embarrassed to have been running my P3 skin.

So, if MMR is functioning as intended, and tracking our abilities for months ahead of time, why then did the three killers that I played frequently get relative babies, and the killer I haven't played in a long while got something closer to what I expected MMR to get me?

  • They did say that it was. My personal experience certainly says otherwise. Have harder games on killers I don't play regularly than ones that I do, and that's extremely problematic. Survivor seems to be a melting pot...I've had games with amazing teammates and ones where they're actual potatoes, so either my MMR goes up when I lose/down when I win or it's just a giant rubber band of what the hell.

  • image.png

Wraith is one of my top three most played killers in the last few months. I've not won every game, but I certainly have defeated solid survivors. This game was completely unfair for all involved. As a result, I find it hard to believe that the game was actually effectively tracking my ability with various killers for the last while. I'm not looking to have stupidly hard games that I have no chance of winning, but the same goes for total curbstomps...it legitimately was not fun having one of them on death hook, injured, try to save their SWF friend by hook blocking despite the fact I just picked them up. I felt bad destroying them, but being nice would prevent me from having a chance to get out of whatever MMR the game thinks I'm at.

  • I'm a retired nurse main, but I didn't change my build from Whispers, NC, BBQ, and Stridor.

  • I find it dull as both sides. It may be more inconsistent to do non-looping strats, but win or lose it's genuinely more fun than running in a circle.

There a very simple solution. Let us customise the aura colours, or just create presets to choose from in the settings that deal with Deuteranopia, Protanopia, and Tritanopia respectively. Its been 4 years in which you "cared about colourblind people".

As someone with both Deuteranopia and Protanopia, that restrictive of options would be very concerning to me. Otherwise I'm all for it.

  • The only time I get frustrated with stealth is when it's down to two people, one person is still trying to win, and the other has given up and is hiding waiting for me to kill the other person so they can get hatch. If both players are trying to win then I've got no issues, if I realize only survivor A is trying to win and survivor B has completely vanished, I will ignore A to find B and then give A hatch.

I play sneaky myself when I survive, I enjoy amazing stealth plays more than chases personally. But I never stop trying to progress the game because at that point you go from being a stealthy but beneficial teammate to an ######### who's making sure their team dies first so they can get hatch.

  • Really what needs to happen is survivors need to be locked in on build/items before they queue. That prevents the exploit and realistically you shouldn't be swapping around much in the lobby anyway. Keeps them from using any of the exploits surrounding lobbies.

This is what I'm thinking as well.

I'm waiting until next week to see how it feels and what the forum threads look like before making a judgement call.

Although they've said that the system was working in the background for months so we really shouldn't need to wait a week to see if it settles.

No choice now though.. I'll give it a week before I join in on the mocking and disappointment.

Yep. i'm operating under the assumption that somehow none of the matches they were supposedly shadow tracking were applied, since that would make sense for what we're seeing. If it's still this bad a week from now...it's either not tracking games ever or it's totally wrong in its criteria.

I don't see that it's out on anything but X-Box yet?

It's out now for all things: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/173606/news-matchmaking-update#latest

I'm willing to give it a week to get people where they belong...if it's still as bad as I've seen currently in a week...then yeah, it's bad.

  • Well then, I'll be curious to see how good the system thinks I am at everything when I'm done working. Judging from these responses, I'm guessing pretty bad.

  • Legion's I feel hits the sweet spot of brutal and realistic for what you'd expect. By this I mean someone like Trapper's mori, you'd expect the person to try to crawl away, try to throw themselves to one side, and while I love Oni and Deathslinger's moris the survivors just kinda...accept what's happening. Plague's is particularly bad for this, since they're alive until the vomit and yet didn't do anything to try to escape. On the other hand you've got Demo, who, as much as I want to love his mori, it's just kinda meh for me. Legion's they actively try to fight back and crawl away, and the whole animation is just so visceral because of it. I love it.

  • I think relying on leaks is just asking for confusion and disappointment, especially when they’re this vague.

  • @MusicNerd_TC said:

I will mention someone who is colourblind @LordRegal We need colourblind options soon.

Yeep...moderate deuteranopia and moderate protanopia here...effectively my red and green cones both are at about half capacity, so take everything @ClickyClicky said up there and add in everything else until you can more or less say "if you'd use that shade as the basic "this is that color" I can see it, otherwise it's hard to impossible to see it," and that's what I've got. I'm fortunate that it's not complete on either of those, because complete deuteranopia and protanopia together would render me unable to differentiate red and green at all. As is I definitely can, but I know I'm missing a LOT of colors.

    @Reaver_Raziel said:

Their explanation for not including it seems pretty weak to me. "It could be used by none color blind killers to make it easier to see scratch marks, blood, etc" as in their explanation is that it can be abused......ok? When survivors can still team up and "abuse" voice coms whats the big deal with killers being able to slightly track better.

I'm totally willing to not have blood be changed because that would objectively give normal color vision players an advantage, but auras and scratchmarks are objectively supposed to be visible and I see no harm in letting us customize them so we can...actually see them.

  • @Mooks said:

    @sulaiman @LordRegal

Oh I didn’t know this was about auras. They stated they didn’t intend this drastic change and are working on a fix

    @Schinsly

i did not say there is colorblind mode on mobile, but I thought it was, wasn’t sure so I asked.. if it’s not my bad..

True, they did say that and they are, but my first paragraph was about normal auras. When they're working as intended totems and trapper traps are not guaranteed to be visible for me at all times. Which is why even when the auras go back to normal I'll still be hoping for a colorblind setting for auras.

  • @LethalPugy said:

Isn’t there a map with that name aswell? Or is my little dyslexic mind getting confused.

You're thinking of Azarov, Wraith's former boss, who has the map Azarov's Resting Place named after him.

It's an interesting idea, to be sure. I haven't put much time into looking into the potential similarities but I wouldn't call a few potential links enough to prove it. Certainly an option with what I know now though.

  • @Mooks said:

Isn’t there a colorblind mode in the mobile version? If so that might actually be a sign that they will add it later to the ‚normal‘ version, like they are apparently doing with the bots..

also aren’t there already colorblind people playing the game? I mean it’s not like they can’t play at all, and you can’t make the game accessible for every disability, especially if others could use it to gain unfair advantages (and there will be people abusing it). But I agree they should really work on a ‚fair‘ colorblind mode

I’m colorblind and play the game. I accept that I cannot use blood to track people on any outdoor map and that sometimes I won’t be able to see my trapper trap or my totem spawn because they’re too dull red to see reliably for me. I fully accept I’m playing at a disadvantage just by pressing “play as killer.”

This last patch has made the game absolutely unplayable for me outside of using a filter that washes out the game and turns survivors and killers into blendettes for free just so I can see the gen/hooked survivor auras. It’s effecively unplayable either way but with the filter I at least have a chance. It’s absolutely unfair.

Also just because we CAN play in the previous patch’s world doesn’t mean we wouldn’t love the ability to customize aura colors. I accept blood would be unfair so I don’t ask for it but auras and scratchmarks are supposed to be visible...why can’t I make the red blue?

My friend never lost any bloodpoints that's what took him by surprise. Hopefully BHVR does this for everyone!

Interesting. I definitely lost points since I remember thinking I’d need to spend some points before I started playing the next day and then when I got on I had 50k. So I definitely assumed that was the correction.

  • I got that as well last night, I assumed it was them fixing the loss of BP with the patch, but the lack of official word makes me wonder if it was something else

  • My P350 all perks characters do the heavy lifting so their comrades can also get the P350 all perks. You can certainly do that yourself as well.

  • It looks to me like her FOV got lowered, like we’ve got a boob cam instead of head cam, I feel shorter as her. Means it’s not the puke acting differently but rather our perception of it.

  • It’s good on him as he has no mobility. Keeping the farthest gens from you from being worked on is very helpful to get the ball rolling as a result.

  • As a colorblind player, some maps are actually, legitimately unplayable as either side. Can't see gens, can't see teammates on hooks. No way in hell is this ok.

  • @SupaSlay3r20 said:

You say adapt, but this isn't really something you just adapt to. Trappers traps are nearly invisible and due to a lack of colorblind options, I wouldn't be suprised if their's people who can't differentiate auras from other parts of the map.

I and multiple other colorblind players have been very vocal about this...you are correct, some maps are actually, legitimately unplayable due to how blendy auras are to us now, and all maps are harder to varying extents, as BOTH SIDES (I've been an ######### to teammates as a survivor lately because I can't see where they are on hooks half the time). It's kind of hard to adapt when our genetics have made it actually impossible to.

  • On the one hand, I liked the whole "misusing the symbols caused misfortune" ...on the other hand, we saw Lisa blatantly respecting the symbols and doing her damndest to not provoke anything's ire even as she was skeptical about it. If this was arc 1 of a multi-arc thing for her, I'd be all for it. With this being all we got...it felt like more of an arc for Pam than Lisa.

  • If all gens get blocked, it's some minor stall to prevent gen progress while you're getting a hook. If not all gens get blocked, you're blocking any other gen from being worked on while you're hooking AND you know where to go to immediately get into a chase. The only "counter" to TT is to let go of your gen, but then you can't work on it for 16 seconds which is just under 25% progress if solo (not counting great skillchecks). That's a lot more consistent than the ways BBQ gets countered.

I do miss the double BP though.

  • You're misunderstanding. The rewards are on a per level basis. The farther you go in a Tome the better the rewards get. We're just on level 1 right now so the rewards are at their minimum.

You can look at any of the old tomes to see it's consistent with this one so far.

  • As long as the exit gates aren't powered by gens, you'll get it. I did it with Legion on Hawkins against a 4 man SWF where three of them were 10 ranks below the fourth and myself. Perfect storm on my first attempt.

  • I missed legacy by just a few months in regards to when I joined. I regret not having had the chance to get it, but I also completely believe I wouldn't care whatsoever about having it if everyone did. It only has value because of its exclusivity. I believe those who had it and lost it should get it back, but I do think you'd not see people run it if suddenly everyone was allowed to since, frankly, there are better skins out there and the only reason people care about it at all is it means something to have it.

  • I'm starting to feel like a broken record here, but for those of us who are colorblind, the game is quite literally unplayable on some maps, and is objectively harder on all maps. Therefore I cannot claim the auras are better in the slightest.

  • @HagIsBestGirl said:

They feel less like a Gamified Interaction Element™️, and more like a psychic sense.

I just like that lore, lol. And they're really not significantly harder to see, just faint.

No one will care either way in a week, regardless.

As a colorblind player, I can guarantee you I won't stop caring that they're invisible to me on more than a few maps in a week...

  • Thank you, really appreciate that.

That's not as definitive as I would've hoped for..."lots of feedback going back to them" doesn't necessarily mean they're acknowledging how badly colorblind players are screwed (as well as the normal playerbase as well, not trying to diminish that)...I'll have to hope I suppose.

I'm not color blind and I can hardly see them. This is really one of the worst mistakes they've made.

It's absolutely awful, agreed. Just...we've been asking for colorblind options since as long as I can remember, this feels like a major slap to the face because it's exactly the opposite of helpful.

As much as I do hate to say it, the fact normal vision people are having a hard time with it make it more likely it'll be changed.

  • It's so wonderful to hear how little some people care that something colorblind people literally cannot change has made the game actually unplayable with the new auras.

I'll admit I've jumped the gun on some things before, but this is something I, quite literally, CANNOT adapt to. My eyes can't see all colors correctly, and now the game is using those colors in dim shades. That's an objective limiter for me playing the game as it was intended to be played. I cannot remain silent on this as a result.

  • I'm colorblind. I literally have to use a color filter now or the game is actually unplayable. Not jokingly "lol, game is unplayable because Clown exists", but actually cannot play with any level of intelligence because the auras that are supposed to be easy to see are impossible to see in some situations.

  • Supposedly it was for bugfixes, but it wasn't ready for live. It just wasn't. I'm colorblind, and it's been a genuinely awful experience, made worse by the fact the rift is out and I do really like some of what it offers.

  • @Victor_hensley said:

  • I got Oni's adept by not pressing M2 all game, if you play any killer with an instadown, the best way to make the ranking system happy is to pretend they have no power. Gotta love it. No problems here at all...

  • I've got two types of colorblindness, I've finally given in and started using an NVIDIA filter for the game because it's now actually impossible to play correctly with the new auras. It's still not a guarantee to see things when all the reds are bright purple, but it's better at least...

Billy's fine now. The devs have heard us and he barely overheats now.

Yeah, I was mostly joking about the Billy part. Just making the comparison that if I found old Nurse and old Billy to be fun to play against, and I find current Huntress fun to play against...two data points can become three pretty easily...

  • Basekit huntress is fine to play against and is honestly fun. I've been hit with cross map hatchets a couple times and it's always a "wow, that was a stupidly good shot" rather than an "ugh, what a broken killer." It's kinda like my respect for good Nurses...and good Billys...

    Oh no...

  • Trapper's walk seems off as well, and PHead's arm is being held differently during his walk cycle, a little too stiffly imo.

So either they made a bunch of animation changes or it's a bug.

Addons were updated last night and mother’s helper was one of them, are you referring to the ptb version or the live version right now?

I genuinely didn't know the hotfix changed anything other than an attempt at fixing the stuttering some players were having...

Looking at it, it's still extremely niche, and it's map dependent. If you pick that as your add on and go to Pale Rose, you've wasted the add on with how few pallets that map generally has. I've seen some versions of Dead Dawg spawn with extremely few pallets, and on a map like Hawkins where most pallets are unsafe you really shouldn't be getting stunned by them anyway. Comparative to anything more generally useful, I don't think we'll be seeing them much.

My sarcasm was directed at the PTB version though, you're correct there.

  • @th3 said:

The goal from listening to several devs streaming was to encourage more variety in addon picks (could be wrong about what exactly, but it could be one of several reasons), and there certainly is variety but billy is already fast.

Like, I can see their argument. But not with the addons that were given alongside it.
