Camping in general is stupid and a buzzkill, but the worst form of this is a camping cannibal. Yes, I know the strat is to abandon altruism and do the gens, but should that even be considered a solution?
In the cannibal's mind, he wins either way. Best case scenario, he gets at least one kill, assuming that the one person is furious about it. Worst case scenario, he downs everyone because they can't let go of altruism.
He shouldn't get a win either way. A person like that doesn't deserve it.
No don’t think of it that way- camping Bubbas are a special breed. After constantly playing games of only getting 1 or 2 kills for just standing still, their ego will eat at them. They want the 4K, and they’re counting on your altruism to keep feeding them. Don’t fall for it. Do gens and get out. If you’re the one on hook, Martyr for the cause. That’s what I do. I cheer my teammates on when I see them trying to get gens done as quickly as possible. I know my death won’t be in vain. I scream at my tv when teammates waste time trying to find an opening, only to get downed and join me on an adjacent hook. They just gave the killer exactly what he wanted.
It’s your ego vs. his when you’re the one on the hook. Be the bigger man, swallow your pride- and try to stay on that hook as long as possible. Never try to Kobe off. Hopefully your team catches on and gets those gens done in time, and they can escape. Then they can teabag his camping ass at the exit in memory of you, and make him feel stupid. Trust me, if they get a lot of boring games like that they’ll either quit, stop doing it, or look for the next cheap Meta to farm kills and stroke their inflated egos.
That 1 kill you spoke of, hurts their feelings. They know they were outsmarted. I’ve seen a few of them trying to adapt with certain builds- to stop gens getting done quickly, while 1 person martyrs. Be strong.

Hearing the DBD Title Theme played in the 80’s synthesizer a la Stranger Things, for the first time. Then hearing Demo Doggo scream as we looked over his shoulder.
-
Aftercare is ok. I think it’s sub-par because it requires interaction with other survivors that may not happen. Some games I don't get to interact with everyone. And whatever positives you do get from Aftercare gets completely erased once your hooked. Then you have to start over and your chances with interacting with everyone again gets smaller as the trial progresses. I find Bond/Kindred + openhanded more informative/better value. You get the same info at almost the same distance (Kindred gives you the same), instantly. Teammates get the benefit of Open Handed as well, so its worth the extra perk slot.
I always felt Aftercare effects should remain permanent for you, and only erased for the others if they are hooked.

Does anyone else understand it? Why quit, get no points for a match, and take a 5 minute matchmaking ban, just because you're unhappy that a killer downed you a little quicker than you had hoped, or because the killer tunneled you or is camping your hook, or because a killer is using a perk that negated your dead hard, or whatever? Even if you're know you're going to be tunneled and hook camped until your death, why quit, it's actually faster to wait for the death on hook, helping your team get some gens done for free in the process, and then get another match, than it is to quit and take a 5 minute matchmaking ban. I just don't get it.
I keep telling you guys- there are a lot of kids and teenagers playing this game. Don’t get me wrong, plenty of adults ragequit and plenty of minors play clean- but we have a lot of immaturity in our community. I personally believe a lot of the toxic behavior we see are coming from kids. Whenever someone ragequits, look at their profile. You’ll see a trend. I’m on Xbox and I see a lot of default pics (which usually indicates a kid without a phone to use custom pics) and they’re now currently playing Dragonball Z, Fortnite, or Minecraft. Yes, I know adults play those too, but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…

Left Behind has always been a bad perk, it's only become even worse ever since the key nerf because now you can't even insta-jump into the hatch with a key.
That never changed it from being a crap perk, and that also never stopped me from using it. I use Left Behind all the time, though I almost never play like a jerk like the OP saw the other Yun Jin play. I just use it as a fallback in case we screw up. And yes, sometimes I die first. It happens. But it's a nice fallback to have in case you end up third or fourth down -- usually you want Unbreakable + Open Handed + Left Behind + Iron Will so you can get up and get the hatch when the killer goes for a 4K.
The other method is Plunderer + Appraisal + Left Behind so you fish for a key. Noting is more satisfying than the killer closing the hatch, then you opening it and jumping in.
For me personally, it was never bad. It helped me out a lot whenever I had terrible teammates, & made the solo Que experience more bearable. Some may argue that Wake Up is also a bad perk. I disagree. Wake Up has saved my as soooooo many times. But I will admit its creeping towards bad now since No Way Out was introduced and is gaining popularity as of recent weeks.

*Breathes heavily- panting*
Sorry I’m late- “Boons are fine.”
All seriousness, they just need to make it so the same totem cant be blessed more than once by the same survivor (entity blocks it of they try to bless- a la hex plaything animation, still have option to cleanse though) NOED should overwrite the last totem if it’s a boon, & snuffing animation should be 1 second for killer (1 swift stomp).
This is just a fad. I’m already having 3/4 consecutive games without boons. Survivors love their second chance perks to be at their disposal any where on the map, so you’ll slowly see more of the community creep back to the meta. Hell, ppl are starting not to run Shadowstep any more. They’re opting for the Healing and replacing SS with one of their old meta perks. Give it time. They’ll just be in the occasional meme build.
Despite what I say, I do believe they will get nerfed in the near future though. Probably longer blessing time, or in a form of a cooldown or something. Before year end maybe.

I don't think it's worth trying to counter it as solo. Where's the reward for it?
I've had a game very recently where a Bubba started camping instantly at five gens.
Everyone was doing the "right" thing and did gens, but if you're solo, first you have to figure out that the killer is actually camping. Then the time that guy was on hook was not enough to do all five gens and open the gates.
So at some point we had to do a dumb rescue that obviously resulted in a hook swap. Eventually the gens were done and we had the gates open and three got barely out ... actually that guy had NOED as well and everyone always says "just do gens" but the thing is that you don't just have to rush five gens but also cleanse five totems, too. All in the two minutes that one person is on hook? What a realistic counter!
Anyway, since we had to leave someone behind, that resulted in a penalty on the Benevolent emblem. If I'm doing the right thing, why is this not being rewarded in emblems?
Oh wait, the reward is then the bloodpoints, right? Nope. I was the highest scoring survivor and had 12k bps. The camper still got more than I did thanks to the required hook swapping, 13k bps.
So, honestly, if what we did was the right thing, why don't I get any reward for it? It's certainly not fun either, because the "experience" is just holding a button and not wanting to interact with the killer at any cost, in a multiplayer game where the fun and excitement comes from interaction with other players.
Plus, if I let the camper get me and kill myself on hook and he gets his 4k, he'll get pushed up in MMR and will get the 4SWF groups that are properly equipped and on comms to deal with that crap. And I go down in MMR until I get killers that are bad enough that they can't secure a kill even if they camp.
What you guys did was rare. The challenge with that is, our community keeps trying to do what y’all did successfully, on a consistent basis. The odds are not in our favor to be altruistic with campers- that’s what they rely on and take advantage of. So what happens more often than not- is the killer being rewarded rather than punished. There are too many variables to repeat what y’all did, consistently. Mainly skill set of every player- including the killer.
You are absolutely correct in not being able to do all gens in time for that one person. Usual best case scenario is to get them all done by the time the second person is on hook, 99 the nearest exit gate, and try to get the last min save. If not, at the very least Sacrafice two survivors so two can escape, as opposed to giving the killer his usual 4 survivors for doing absolutely nothing. Only then will the sting of constant, BORING draws will get them to stop.

Camping isn't a problem because somebody thinks it's a strong strategy... it has more to do with taking a player hostage and not allowing them to play.
It’s not that someone thinks it- they know it to be a strong strategy, otherwise they wouldn’t do it. These type of players have more success camping than actually playing the game, so they’re going to continue unless the community gets on the same page and makes it a dull unproductive tactic.
On a side note, I truly believe we have a lot of kids/minors/teenagers playing Dead by Daylight, and this is something us as a community needs to take a look at. There is a lot of immature & novice behavior in our games. We mustn’t assume because it’s an MA game, that there is a mature adult behind every in game character. A lot of the toxic behavior is most likely coming from that age group. Don’t get me wrong, plenty of mature kids out there- skilled as well. Same for the other side- lots of immature adults with no skill. But my hypothesis is the camping, tunneling, hitting on the hook, teabagging, ragequitting, body blocking, trolling, etc.- is little Timmy being unsportsmanlike.
If they ever turn on the mics, I think we all will be in for a rude awakening…
-
After MMR was introduced- I BARELY have had any games with slugging involved, but I keep seeing threads on here about them. I estimate I am in mid-MMR right now. Where is the slugging taking place? Low MMR? High MMR? I have an anti-slugging build for Jane and it’s useless. Whenever I play with her, it’s like I’m playing perkless because the killers I encounter (good or bad) don’t slug.

This game needs SWF removed from public matches- that’s what it needs. Then killers wouldn’t have to be nerfed because they’re OP for solo’s but just viable for SWF’s.
-
Left Behind is a bad perk now. Personally I’d rather gamble trying to get the win going for an exit, than falling back on a crutch draw perk like Left Behind. Before MMR, Left Behind & Open Handed were so rewarding if you played well but had bad teammates.
-
There is an audience for rifts, and I imagine it’s a large one. Personally I enjoy them because they add extra challenges & give us other objectives to aim for. Whenever I’m in a trial and the game is going sour, if I complete a hard one in the process- I take solace in that. It makes the loss/terrible trial that much more bearable.
Cosmetics is really what keeps me playing this game, otherwise I would have left a long time ago. I appreciate charms and the early access skins. The eye candy helps me to deal with frustrating games.

Just a simple question and I'm curious about how people feel. Do you get more frustrated by your teammates or by what the killer does/acts?
I myself get more frustrated with teammates. As a solo survivor, its the natural reaction. I am usually the one who focuses gens, but can read situations pretty well and go for saves if the situation calls for it. But lately, its either people getting impatient and killing themselves on first hook, or they go down in 15-20 seconds of the match starting and demand a save or else they throw, or we actually do pretty well until mid-late game where 2 teammates snowball the match for the killer. I just question these people's IQ, especially when I see 3 teammates just walking/running around/putting a damn boon totem up after I ran the killer for 2 minutes + and no gen pops.
Note to other solo survivors; do not run Kindred or Bond. Seeing how your teammates play will annoy you more than aid you.
Slight rant. Genuine question.
@Volcz you nailed it brother. That’s exactly how I feel. I get more frustrated with teammates making TERRIBLE plays. I will never get upset at anyone if they can’t loop for long, but don’t bring the killer over to a hooked teammate while in chase. Or worse, unhooking a survivor literally as the killer turns his back from just hooking them. What is that?? Borrowed or not, it’s a bad play.

Shelter Woods. A lot of content creators say Dead Dawg Saloon is the best killer map, but I have to disagree. I really believe it’s Shelter Woods. Every killer shines there. Plenty of open space for the speedsters (Billy, Blight, Spirit, Legion, Victor) to run around. Great sight lines for Huntress, Plague, & Trickster. It has 2-3 RNG gens with TERRIBLE outpositioned status (usually corner gens complete opposite end of shack). Few pallets and structure spawn there. Map is a fair size. Not too big. Hex totem spawns are not too bad either. Sometimes they are hidden in plain sight, and survivors would have to approach from a weird angle to even know they are there.

RPD is the only indoor map I like. You just need to play it more and familiarize yourself with it, then you won’t mind it as much. You actually have an advantage over other killers as nurse. You can break chase on one floor and go for someone above or below on a gen, instantaneously. When chasing on same level, just go for short controlled blinks & expect survivors to always try and double back around walls and corners. Hold your second blink for a second to see where they are going. Blink when they have less options, like in the long hallways or main lobby.
-
They’re a little strong because they can be relit. I say once it’s been extinguished or moved to a new totem, the previous totem can never be blessed again by that survivor.
Also, NOED should be able to trump boons and come into play. I don’t care for NOED nor do I use it, but that’s better balance IMO.

There are two:
Iri Box addon + Pillar addon. An endless deluge of unstoppable chain hunts. Never once got less than a 3k using this.
Fang + Lens is also nasty as all hell, but hooks can be hard to land indoors and we've got the 'extra Hawkins event' now.
Yea that doesn’t sound fun for survivors. I probably ran into those a few times. Not a fan of vs. Pinhead.
-
NOED is going nowhere, but don’t be surprised if you see boons get nerfed in the PTB…
-
Ok, I’m very curious as to what this combo is and why it can’t be named lol
-
Now is a good time to use Plague- she completely negates boons healing prowess. Legion negates both the healing and no-tracks. Play with those two killers more, until this fascination with boons die down. I also believe they will get nerfed again.
Ideas for a build to deal: Sloppy Butcher, Haunted Grounds, Undying (you’ll be able to see them blessing it and you may have time to walk over and stop them. If not you’ll know exactly where the boon is to put it out), & Thrill of the Hunt. Throw these four on Legion and you may have yourself something viable.
-
I know you’re curious, but they are highly overrated. IMO the timing is VERY tight. Seems like it’s harder to hit more than the flash bang stealth nerf. Half the time I end up blinding myself instead of the killer lol.
-
Give it time. Boons are not always going to be as popular as they are now. I’m already starting to have consecutive matches when they are not in play. It can co-exist with Self-care. I just wish more players would recognize when it’s best to use both. One gen left, it’s 25% done with someone on it, get on that gen. Don’t hide around the corner self caring or blessing a totem to self care. You cant mess around in a world with Pop Goes the Weasel.
-
I always let go to give the other survivor a chance, EXCEPT- if we had one gen left and I KNOW 100% you were trying to wait for me to get caught & die. If I get chased off my 50% done gen, then loop over to the other two gens and they are as cold as your heart, you best believe I’m doing every single one of those skill checks to give the killer more time to down your scary behind. I decide if I martyr- no one else.
-
What platform do you play on?
-
Remove SWF from public matches. Solo Que games are a lot more chill.
-
100% agree, OP. SWF breaks Asymmetrical Games- especially horror. They should only be allowed in Custom Games. They’re the minority in every asymmetrical community, and cause the most headaches for solo players & killers. Whether it’s DBD, RE Resistance, or F13- they bully killers with no fear. Comms trump all. Let one ragequit when they start getting beat, then the others ragequit in succession. Some are so infatuated with bullying, they dont do objectives- pissing off solos and frustrating killers. You can never get true balance for solo players. Look at Wraith- his last buff made him “manageable” against a 4 man SWF (still needed more), but completely busted against solo’s. Now his recent nerf has him viable for solo’s, but weaker against SWF. There are so many mechanics in this game that reflect that one example.
-
Yea, MMR would be first to go. SWF in public matches would be second. They can get a 5th and do KWF.
-
It pairs well with Off the Record if you need to make a quick escape after being unhooked. Your grunts are 100% silenced & and your aura is hidden for quite some time. So you get on a safe gen away from your last hook. Resilience may even be good to add to it as well.
-
Very underrated. Plus our community of casuals keep foolishly cleansing every chance they get, only to be infected 30-60 seconds later.
-
Inb4 “different teams do different things, you know that right?”
-
Iron Will needs to be effective in chase other wise it’ll end up in the unused perk pile like Red Herring & Bloodhound.
-
No victim blaming here- OP is correct: turn off the chat. The amount of negativity post game far outweighs any positive feedback you may receive. It’s not worth your peace of mind. People are toxic in chat to trigger you, and no matter what your response is- you make them feel better by responding. If more player turned off their chat, toxic people will realize it’s been turned off and they will get even more infuriated. You win 3 times: you won the trial, you won by not receiving negative vibes, and you won by making them even more miserable. Turn it off people.
-
Oh no- a new basement bubba is born!!
-
The amount of players who DC due to being bad sports is too high. Unfortunately you fall in the minority (avoiding cheaters). Chalk this up to “why we can’t have nice things.”
They do need to improve the anti-cheat, but the DC penalty is necessary.
-
I never knew Bubba was wearing the faces of the OG survivors…
-
I don’t understand why you guys on PC don’t turn the chat box off. The ratio for negative vs. positive feedback must be astronomical. It’s not worth your peace of mind keeping that on when playing killer.
-
Nope. Play more killer- then you’ll be asking if she’s the new Nea.
It’s just the level of players you’re encountering, that’s all. Mikaela’s that I encounter as killer are not the same as the one’s I get for teammates. Actually that goes for any character honestly.

@pseudechis said:
if escape is the only metric to increasing sbmm then the answer is play selfish.
Stealth out let others be chased and try and hit gens up. Don’t save others just focus on gens and leave the second you can. It’ll be no blood points but you get more escapes.
once you’re out of the dumps and have more competent teammates then you can engage in the game more.
@Shaped said:
Just focus on escaping and forget about altruism until you get teammates that put some effort.
I noticed sbmm gets weird at 10pm-2am eu so I don't play survivor at that time. If the lobby times are longer you will end up in weird matches.
My advice is bring medkits (I personally rarely used "instas" but you can) and less team oriented perks that increase your survivability (ub, ds, dh, maybe even deliverance, iw etc). Hatch doesn't change mmr (I think) so I would try gates when you can. Depending on the killer and spawns you can 30% it then escape.
When you reach a point where your teammates are decent, you can be more altruistic again but don't expect everyone else to be and end up on a losing streak that will bring you down again.
Be a martyr from time to time if you like that but compensate by being more selfish in the next game.
These two nailed it. Avoid hatch unless you have no choice. It’s considered a draw and doesn’t raise your MMR. If you plan your game around hatch, you are failing at your goal and are just wasting your time. At best, use it as a means to prevent your MMR from dropping back down.Only go for safe unhooks that buy you more time. If you have too many gens left and it’s safe for you to unhook, do so. If you’re on the last gen safely away from killer, and someone is on their first hook. F&%k em. Especially if the exit gate is right by that gen you’re on. Finish the gen, open the gate, then leave. Also, 99ing a gen is no longer in your vocabulary. Open the exit gates every time and just leave. Never look back lol.
Low MMR is hell. I know your pain.
