I think every escape attempt should just have a skill check that way unnerving presence has a purpose in his kit. While mostly meaningless against good survivors it will still on occasion provide value especially in conjunction with perks and any add ons which could be changed to supplement this feature. Trapper desperately needs an add on rework. He could also use +1 carrying capacity as base.

I agree simply because skillchecks could definitely benefit the killer & their perks depending on what they are.

Edit: so umm I accidently said Unnerving Presence was a survivor perk lol.. just no

  • @AChaoticKiller said:

skill checks unless for stalling purposes are largely meaningless especially if your expect them so i wouldn't make disarming traps have them.

rng for if you disable something is also frustrating for both sides i feel like he needs a more interactive change. bloody coil works since it is a UR addon meant to be strong and also it really shouldn't be basekit.

    My trapper idea is this.

    Trapper secondary power: rigged generators

Press the secondary ability when interacting with a gen to trap the generator. This power has a base 45 second recharge. Rigging a generator applies a base 10% regression but stops natural regression, there is no limit to the amount of generators that can be rigged at once.

When a survivor interacts with a rigged generator they must succeed 5 skill checks (lasts 10 seconds), if the survivor fails one of the skill checks or stops this interaction they lose a health state, the gen regresses a further 15%, and the generator is no longer rigged.

edit: i know i said skill checks are pointless but this is to distract the survivor and because it's meant to keep the survivor on the gen. getting off a rigged gen will trigger it otherwise the skill checks as said is to stall.

Skill checks wouldn't be meaningless for the same reason that people miss DS skillchecks all the time, but I do agree about the RNG. I imagine once they fix that (because Pig also needs a rework) my idea wouldn't be so bad.

But anyways I really like your idea, but I think it's slightly OP for the fact that survivors have to hit 5 skill checks & if they fail just 1 they could lose a health state. Maybe make it so they only lose a health state while healthy? I really don't think going down because you missed a skillcheck is plausible.

  • A bloodpoint bonus could definitely help out the killer population as it basically is bribing players, but there's only so much you can do before the devs need to step in & actually balance the game so it isn't completely miserable to play as killer.

  • Whenever I take Dead Hard out of my build for something "new", I definitely do miss it because 8/10 times I could've made it to another pallet if I had it. I also tend to play more riskier with it & riskier is more fun than playing it safe.

Not to mention, if I'm playing against a stealth killer w/o Spine Chill (mainly Ghost Face), I am definitely a whole lot more anxious than I would've been. It makes DBD slightly scarier again & as much as I appreciate that, man oh man do I wish I had that perk lol.

Thanks! I have a lot of ideas for reworks, redesigns, and general fixes, if my original comment didn't tip you off.

I've been studying the horror genre, monster design, art, and game design (both tabletop games and video games) for about five years and counting.

I actually had the idea to make my own DBD-style 4v1 unbalanced multiplayer game at one point, with high visual and playstyle customizability for both Slashers (Killers) and Protagonists (Survivors), in addition to multiple gamemodes and challenge types.

By the way, thought it was worth mentioning that there's a ######### Roblox game with better gameplay than DBD. It's called Before the Dawn. I wouldn't say this if it wasn't true.

Sorry, got way off track there. Anyway, if you wanna ask any other questions, fire away.

Well let me just say that those years definitely paid off, because myself & others love your ideas. The concept of reworking killers & in-game mechanics to fill in the atmospheric horror game that DBD could be is just amazing.

I don't know why you didn't go through with your game idea, because I really think you should take these thoughts & years of experience and put it towards a game that you can call yours. Even if you have to do a Kickstarter or something, I'll bet it'll be good.

  • I picked DS over OoO because DS is used far more often, therefore needs the most attention. But I will list off what I think needs to be changed to both:

I would change DS to be:

    • You are able to use it twice in a game instead of once.
    • DS deactivates once you touch a gen, heal somebody, do a totem, etc after 3 seconds of doing said action (this is to prevent accidental deactivation). It will not deactivate if you are being healed because the killer can always come back to hook.
    • If the killer downs & hooks somebody after you get unhooked, it deactivates.
    • You can jump into a locker for DS, but your timer goes down at 2x the speed. This is to be able to prevent actual tunneling but not abuse the mechanic at the same time.
    • Perhaps the timer should be slowed when being chased by the killer, to actually prevent tunneling instead of it just being a waiting game.

I would change OoO to be:

    • Instead of the survivor looking at the killer to see each others auras, it is the opposite. The killer has to look at the survivor instead & this is so the survivor has an advanced Spine Chill, but also so the killer can have more control over the situation.
    • The person with OoO is always the obsession, no matter what (unless the killer has a perk such as Nemesis). If multiple people are running OoO, the game will randomly decide between them. The point of this is so no other obsession perk such as DS sways who the obsession is.

These are the only changes I can think of off the top of my head & they may not be the best but they are definitely better than what's currently in the game.

You're right, not all survivors are douchey, but a lot of them are. I don't blame killers for dcing during loading screen when they have last minute switchers and a map offering. It's really all killers can do, short of not playing anymore, to get the devs attention to the problems and un-fun situations killers are put in.

I also don't blame survivors for using the tools they have provided, that's all on the devs. It just seems that the devs won't do anything unless players force their hand.

    Exactly.

  • Not all survivors play douchey & if something is in the game people are going to use it, therefore you should blame the devs for balance rather than the players.

With this being said, this game is incredibly unbalanced & I agree with you. There has been many times I've went AFK as killer because I gave up & didn't get back on the role for a very long time.

Perks like DS & OoO should be completely reworked because it is just ridiculous. Of course there might be some OP things on the killer side as well but not near as much as the survivor side.

  • Atleast with Deathslinger you can try to bait his shot and do "swervy" movements in an attempt to get him to miss.

With Spirit, there is absolutely no indication that she is phasing & is a one-sided mindgame, therefore Spirit is the most annoying out of these 2.

Not to mention, I get Spirit 6/10 matches which probably doesn't help.

I think the only thing that billy has that Oni doesn't have is constant access to a weaker utility and lethal power. You can at any time use your chainsaw to run around the map or in a chase, there are no special requirements. Oni on the other hand gets a much more powerful version of the two, but with the limitation of having 45 seconds to use it at a time and he has to build up his power bar.

I still think that they both are very good in terms of design and when you compare it to the rest of the cast, these two are extremely well designed.

I agree although it is fairly easy to get his power. If I were to place 2 killers on a pedestal in terms of map pressure I would say Oni & Blight rather than Billy.

  • Lol nobody ever plays them, like ever.

In all seriousness though, the few times I have played against them have been pretty fun.

Sure, majority of The Twins players tend to camp but I don't get them in enough matches to get tired of it.

  • A Mirage for DBD.. interesting..

  • Billy will always lose against survivors who know what LOS is & those who run with a plan (not being caught in the open). Against competent survivors, it's not very often you catch them off-guard.

Billy not only has a overbearing heat mechanic but he also cannot turn whatsoever without addons.

Oni on the other hand has a power that is very easy to get (2 hits) & can do flicks with. He can roam the map flawlessly compared to Billy who has to worry about running into things constantly.

Overall, I think Oni takes the cake & Billy is nowhere near good imo. I'd love for someone to change my mind.

  • You're playing against Dweets and Megheads, obviously it's going to be easy.

If you played killer against survivors with actual common sense, you'd regret this entire post.

  • BHVR isn't afraid to show its biasedness, that's for sure.

  • I run DS & Unbreakable together about 2% of the time. Not only do I not have both perks on most characters anyway, but I find it to be unnecessary.

The only time I'll run this is if I do the slug build, which is Tenacity + Unbreakable + DS/Power Struggle/Flip Flop which doesn't work 80% of the time anyway.

Its Rage Mode would be the ideal, it would be a demolition of pallets, breakable doors and windows possibly, teleportation is a plus, really if it is in the hands of the developers, I do not want it to be another killer stalker.

Rage Mode sounds awesome. Now you got me invested.

    Regarding my mains

    Tanks: Zarya,Dva

    DPS:Sombra,Soldier 76,Tracer

    Support:Ana,Mercy

I think of ranked as quickplay with "benefits" (golden weapons).

Anyway I like your choices. Love Zarya & used to main D.Va on PC before I switched to console.

At this point I'm just waiting for the Archives event they always do around March/April.

No the trapper doesn't have supernatural strength, he can not "teleport" While the trapper does have parent issues,he isn't being driven from a force beyond the grave, and he rebells against entity to a certain degree, but he doesn't want to be tortured. Jason is technically a stealth killer, I would say he's like Pyramid Head he can be stealthy but once you know he's there he's there.Trapper doesn't come with stealth perks nor insidious as base kit.Evan was rich Jason was poor ,Evan is actually articulate ,Jason is not but we know what's going on it Jason head ,he's probably has thousands of things to say, he just can't.

    Aesthetically :

Apparently Evan's mask is made out of bone ,Jason mask is made out plastic a very strong temperature plastic it would be like punching a weaker version of bulletproof glass, is the best way, I could explain it for myself also

Trapper has a cleaver, machete like Jason

and uses various weapons but most killer's do now so we can rule that out .The dev's have said which, I can't quote only from what other people have said that he is based on Jason, but he's still their original killer with his own backstory and personality, you down playing trapper as if he's just a stand in ,but he's his own guy.

Jason is an iconic slasher that kick off the supernatural genre of slasher films so yeah he's a big deal

I wish y'all the best of luck in getting him, eventually it will end but no time soon it's best to let it go for now.

Obviously there are differences between the 2. I just genuinely don't know what the hell his power would be other than teleportation (which rules out Slenderman) because Trapper already called dibs on the traps.

"make spirit's breathing be heard in the direction she is phasing in for survivors" So you're gonna destroy the whole concept of Spirit? The whole concept and idea behind Spirit are mind games.

There shouldn't be a killer with absolutely no indication. Going against her shouldn't be a guessing game, it should be an actual mindgame that you can participate in.

    Pennywise (IT Chapter)

    Werewolf (The Howling Chapter)

That's all I can think of right now.

By the time Jason will be able to come to DBD, the game will have already been dead for some time. Unfortunately there is constant lawsuits for him which is the reason why Friday The 13th never got to bloom like it should've.

  • Why did they have to move the HUD to a completely new spot? It was fine where it was & I've never seen anybody complain about it.

Though I will say, the portraits are a nice touch because before they were added you had to pause to see who was playing who.

About the hook counters, if the killer doesn't also have them then the survivors shouldn't either. That is just biasedness at its finest.

  • @Mikeasaurus said:

Pretty much all the time. I never play for wins or kills, or if I'm survivor, for the lols in chases. I go in to have a fun match and just earn some BP. Winnings overrated these days.

  • owo.jpg

Who the hell wouldn't be excited?

Lol in all seriousness though, I've never really gotten into the Resident Evil franchise & plan to start with this game. Of course I'll go back to play the previous games if I like this one, so I'm pretty hyped up about it.

  • Similar to other comments, DBD is basically its own game category because there is no other PvP horror game similar to it other than Friday The 13th which is dead due to the lawsuit.

Once you play this game enough, you begin to either love it, hate it, or sometimes both. For me & many others, it is definitely a love-hate relationship because although this game has a lot of turn-offs & balancing issues, we still play it because there is nothing else to really compare it to.

I don't know. I would like to play up the daylight horror from the original film, though.

Maybe a stance system of sorts, switching between a "Searching" stance, where he's undetectable (he comes straight outa nowhere in the movie) but slightly slower, and a "Chasing" stance, where he's faster, has a one hit down, and can break pallets with basic attacks, but is using his fully revved chainsaw, which is slow to use and audible from half the map away.

Picture this: You're doing gens with your bud, when suddenly BBBBBRRRRVVVVV!!!!!!!! You run away, you don't look back, but you know he's there. The chainsaw fades as you make it to relative safety, but suddenly, it stops. You know what's happened. Your friend is down. You'll have to go back and find him. You search, praying you don't hear- BBBBBRRRRVVVVV!!!!!!!! BBQ and Chili. After a brief chase, you escape. You never found your friend.

That's just off the top of my head. If I actually had to code it in I would take at least a week to think hard about what to do with this guy. It would have to have some sort of stealth-adjacent ability, as tribute to the fact that they never show the violence as it happens on screen.

He's important in the history of horror, especially slasher films. He deserves better.

    He really does.

Ideas like this is what would make DBD scarier again. I love the TCM films & really like the concept of implementing mechanics that represent Leatherface as how he is in the movies.

To be completely honest, this is probably the best rework idea I've ever heard of for Bubba. Well done!

  • Nah, it isn't just you.

I haven't really played DBD much the last few days because of how boring the experience has been for me.

  • Survivor queue times have always taken years but lately it seems like they've gotten 10x worse and I'm not sure if it's because matchmaking is broken atm or more killers are quitting/switching over to survivor.

    Either way, I'm not suprised.

  • @Beelzeboop said:

    I would, as a start:

    • Fix line of sight, to start with, and thus fix ghosty boi's power.
    • Put survivors into first person.
    • Replace most skillchecks with puzzle minigames (like in Among Us, but longer, harder, and [OwO] more numerous), with a button to look up to look for the killer, pausing progress on the puzzle.
    • Find a way to nerf looping in general (someone had an idea that the killer could knock down props to block survivors).
    • Buff the damn Trapper for the Entities sake, he's the games frickin' mascot, after all!
    • Fix the rank system, IE make it reward players for making the game more interesting for each other.
    • Make chases about getting away from the killer, not stalling them.
    • Try to make controls less clunky.
    • Make all killers intimidating.
    • Rework Spirit, Hag, Nightmare, Cannibal, and probably some other killers.
    • LISTEN TO COMPLAINTS AND CONSIDER THE ROOT ISSUES AT SOME POINT.

Anyway, that's what I have for now. I just thought that making the killer experience better would bring back some killer players, thus reducing survivor wait time, thus improving the game.

I also thought it would be interesting to increase survivor involvement and immersion.

Love this response. Though I want to ask, how would you rework Bubba? Imo I think he's fairly weak against competent survivors.

If campers can still call Tommy Jarvis then you are basically forced to sit around because he is controlled by another player who died. Back when I played you also didn't get any "points" if you left early. Don't know if they changed this. It's been a while.

It was hell. Especially if you died first and the match went on for 30 minutes. And then you had to wait another 5-10 minutes for another match.

That sounds god-awful. Honestly you still might lose your points & I just never noticed.

It's always the same people every match because of how small the playerbase is, so if you die first you basically have to wait for their game to be over. It sucks.

  • @Chrisko said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1904157#Comment_1904157

So having another survivor (bot) running around doing gens or taking up the killer's time is WORSE than having 1 less survivor in the match? I don't understand that reasoning.

Look at it this way. They're either going to be awful or disgustingly OP.

    If they're awful:

    • They could lead the killer to you by accident. They're bots after all, they don't know better.
    • Chases last literally 2 seconds if the killer has common sense.
    • They could either sandbag you or leave you one-hooked.
    • They could stealth around the entire game & not do anything to help the team.
    • Etc.

    If they're OP:

    • They never blow up gens, which is completely unrealistic.
    • They always know when/and where the killer is coming from & make no mistakes.
    • They might mess up routing but they'll always know where the next pallet is instead of actually having to look for it like a normal person would have to.
    • Etc.

My main point with all of this is that no matter how good or bad the bot is, it will never truly be balanced & wouldn't make sense. If they're bad, they play like brown ranks and screw you over. If they're good they'll play like cheater because they always know what to do compared to an actual person who has to think about it. Not to mention, there are ranks in this game. Is the bot going to have difficulty settings or something?

Everyone has their own opinion on these things so you probably still won't agree with me but hopefully you see my POV better now.

  • Survivor Tier List1.png

Here is my tier-list so we can compare. For the most part I'd say ours are fairly similar, but I definitely think new survivors shouldn't use Claudette's Self Care because it teaches them bad habits.

  • @Chrisko said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1902418#Comment_1902418

You must not play survivor much, i guess or just like playing 3v1 solo Q.

I play survivor 80% of the time & don't want bots because they're known to be stupid and predictable. Of course it sucks if someone ragequits but I genuinely don't think AI is going to help.

When Fortnite added bots, I stopped playing and never looked back.

  • I like this perk idea, but to balance it out I would do 3 things:

    • Hatch will not spawn again, even if there is only one person left.
    • Similar to above, exit gates will also be off-limits. The point is for you both to try and finish the remaining gens instead of 1 distracting and 1 getting a free escape. Maybe you could limit the broken status to only the first minute instead of the entire match going forward because of this.
    • The person coming back from the dead (assuming they had an item when they died) does not get to bring back said item.
  • Probably because killer is 10x more frustrating to play. I'd rather lay back & relax as survivor than be on the edge of my seat the entire game as killer. Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Edit: I get 10+ minute queues, consider yourself lucky lad.

Friday the 13th had promise, for sure. The lawsuit immediately killed it.

But I think having to sit around and wait for a match to end after you die would have killed the game eventually though if they didn't address it.

I haven't played for a few months, but I don't remember being stuck in matches after dying. Nonetheless that game had a lot of problems from the start & the devs just never got to fix it.

1 … 17 18 19 20 21 … 23
