I think you're arguing for the wrong thing since if you want everyone to be play without advantages, the devs should not only do what you suggested but also isolate old gen and switch players from current gen console players due to the frame rate difference.
What you should argue for instead is mouse + keyboard support on console. And e.g. the option of playing on "performance" mode. E.g. You play on low settings for 120 fps. Overwatch has these options for current gen console players: Resolution, Balanced and Framerate. You get the best quality and 60fps at Resolution whilst 120fps on lower settings on the Framerate option. So DBD could offer similar options.
I know this is a big stretch to ask for since 120 FPS isn't even an option on in the menu on PC but this would be better than your suggestion. It also wouldn't isolate any of the player base. Of course old gen and switch players will still have a disadvantage though.
Sadly they said in their last Q&A that have no plans to add M&K support or to add graphics options to the consoles...

Change your TVs settings to make it brighter
The one setting I have for that makes it look like a nuke went off, and the radiation gets closer as I adjust it higher. We need more options like other games have...

Hope this is not the case, and Switch will indeed get Cross Progression. Those like me on Xbox don't even have a glimmer of hope for CP like Switch at least had.

5-7 day turnaround is hogwash. There is absolutely no good reason why BHVR can’t get the game files approved by the console companies well ahead of time, since the PTB is a PLANNED event.
Oh I didn't say it's a good reason. Remember when Trickster came out a week later than they were supposed to? That delay was solely due to one of the console companies not approving the update on time. And you know the devs plan out chapter releases more than anything else they do.
So yes this is very much a thing, sadly.
-
@SweetTerror said:
I know this is been asked before so my apologies for not knowing the answer, but I just can't wrap my head around why the PTB isn't accessible everywhere. Betas/trials have existed throughout plenty of games on consoles before, so why can't the same be said for Dead by Daylight? Having the PTB accessible only on PC means that you're getting valid feedback from only a fraction of your total audience. I really don't want another Resident Evil situation here where I go to purchase the chapter, and then the new map is deactivated for 2 months. That chapter also played horrendously on consoles when it was released. Wouldn't it have been nice to have had that feedback prior to release?
The reason as I understand it is due to how long it takes DBD game file updates (patches/hotfixes) to be approved separately by Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo. And the PTB essentially is an alternate set of game files.
Apparently it's like a 5-7 day turnaround or something, and also the reason why more than one patch even in the same week doesn't happen.
If the game has stayed only on PC they could've pumped three updates through Steam in a single day if necessary.

My prediction was that Switch will go first and that will be our warning that our days are numbered, so to speak.
Makes sense to use that as a yard stick. My personal guess is we're toast by the end of April, after another chapter comes out and a hot fix or two as well.
But that's just a guess.

Kind of echoing your guys comments with my own thoughts.
First, I worry as theres a lot of fancy effects going on, especially the transparencies.
Second is I wonder how aim reliant she will be; as even Blight\Hillbilly can be really hard to aim on controller because of having to have the sensitivity up so high to not get 360d.
Lastly I'm curious about the Spirit optimisation from the patch notes, as I am also in the same boat that thought the game actually seemed to run a lot better when playing as Spirit than most other killers. I wonder why she was chosen when my anecdotal experience made her one of the killers that impacted performance the least while Nemesis didn't get looked at instead when there are a multitude of severe examples of issues in games where he is present here in this thread. Sure there are very good reasons and I would love to have it explained to me so I can understand the big picture.
As far as Spirit being worked on but Nemmy was not, the only thing that makes sense to me was play pick, where they would choose to toy with her innards as she is played way more often than Nemmy is (one of the big three so to speak).

"I have a bad experience with the game so let's make everyone else make a bad experience too". Lmao get a PC and stop whining.
While I think the notion of locking everyone at 30fps is ridiculous, you have to see and feel this game's performance on console to understand their fustration, and what would inspire a post such as this.
I've said several times here to our PC cousins please borrow a friend's PS4 or whatever and play DBD. Especially killer. Especially on Lery's. And let us all know how it goes.
Being told to just get a PC isn't a viable solution either. Putting aside the cost of the new PC itself, remember there's no Cross Progression nor is it coming for Xbox or PS.
So we'd have to rebuy this game, and the DLC's, and any wanted cosmetics, oh and the best part relevel everyone from scratch. Those with thousands of hours into DBD aren't likely to do that again from nothing. You know the grind of this game.

Just spotted this as you mentioned perks specifically and this match had bare minimal perk variety so may make it easier to identify.
Both are freezes when I get hooked 1st and 2nd time so the only perks that would activate would be BBQ, Pop, and Kindred.
Killer perks: BBQ and Chili, Monitor and Abuse, Pop Goes the Weasel, Brutal Strength - Addons: High Stimulus Electrode and Interview Tape
My perks: Borrowed Time, Dead Hard, Decisive Strike, Kindred
Survivor #1: Borrowed Time, Dead Hard, Decisive Strike, Plunderers Instinct - Common Medkit with Butterfly Tape and Rubber Gloves
Survivor #2: Borrowed Time, Lithe, Iron Will, Spine Chill
Survivor #3 : Borrowed Time, Lithe, Iron Will, Windows of Opportunity
2 BP offerings and the RPD offering were burnt
The Police Station map seems to bring many of the issues out, just as Nemmy does pretty much on any map. Combine the two and oh boy ya have a great chance to be disconnected from the match. No doubt there's perks that aggravate all of this as well.

What can be done in DBD on PC but not on console would fill this forum and the three next door...

I'm having health problems, so just writing this costs me energies, and I had the force to write this just now: is this an intended feature or an exploit?
I've never been able to do that with my controller, even with 100% sensitivity. Maybe it can be done with a mouse on PC? I have no idea if it's intended or not.
-
Yes add it please. I appear off-line on Xbox and this is the only game that betrays that on my profile, displaying that I'm on DBD and either on a menu (aka in a lobby) or in a game. It shouldn't show this imo if you've set the entire platform to appear off-line.

Nope they can't put out such numbers, just general ones that include all platforms together. It's due to the various UEA's the consoles have.

Maybe they can't fully drop updating the game, but from what it looks the game will become more and more next to unplayable.
Yeah sadly that seems to be the direction we're headed to
-
@GrimoireWeiss said:
Today we had yet another update that made things even worse. Now we're back to the same RE state. Killer is unplayable because every freeze now turns your character 180 degrees.
I feel so dumb for wasting my money buying Pinhead. I recommend for anyone on last gen to stop spending money on this game, I'm pretty sure they'll drop the boat on our consoles soon, no matter what they said on the last stream.
I am not completely sure, but I believe as long as Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo still actively support the proir gen consoles DBD cannot abandon them. As they said in the last Q&A as long as it is technically able to, like the engine straight up no longer working with any PS4 for example.
But as we all know the performance issues are mostly based in optimization problems, and making any platform load each and every killer & all their assets every match.
So we are stuck with each other it seems, far longer than the console makers or the devs ever dreamed of.
-
@Mandy said:
Sorry, just catching up on this thread now.
I take it, performance has dropped in the last couple of patches - we talking since Mid Chapter Patch?
I'll need to put some bullet points together to see exactly where it's dropped....the videos will help, looking at them it seems to be status effects again.
The drops when Lithe is activated are more apparent again, like when RE Chapter came out. Kicking the pumpkins drops frames as well, even if it does not apply any effect, and for some reason turns the cam left a few degrees as well.

Agree. That's why I hope someday we get our account statistics like W/L kills/escape average match time etc. And I don't think we would fight around if player A uses voice coms or not when his average escape rate will be around 4 min.
As i multiple times mentioned in different topics data should be revealed. And more data u have, easier it is to find what's wrong.
Like take LoL for example. I can track literally anything and there's no doubts about anything cause i can check it any moment i want.
Sadly this cannot happen in DBD. The various UEA's with the consoles prevent the sharing of the very data you seek. The devs would have had to include displaying & tracking stats before porting the game on over. It's too late now.
Maybe in DBD2.

Not all of you are horrible, but the ones that are the reason she is my #1 most hated Killer. That tunnel the helmet Survivor tactic is sooo infuriating. Maybe I just don’t get the strategy..? I don’t know.
If I understood why they do it, maybe I wouldn’t hate her so much. Anyone care to explain?
Although I am quite a terrible killer i don't play that way myself. Her main slowdown from her power is the headgears keeping survs busy and off the dang gens.
If while patroling or in chase I happen across a trapped surv searching a box or quirming about I'll just slug em or ignore them entirety. Survs off gens is a good thing I think.

Dbd is playable on Xbox one X, PS4 Pro (ssd).
It plays best on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
I play on an Xbox1x and dispute that playable comment. I get the same frame drop triggers as anyone on console gets. The recent patches have worsened game performance back to almost a poor as when RE came out.

Going against Nemmy, on any map, causes many frame drops just like it did when the patches following the RE Chapter release. And many familiar triggers have returned or are more pronounced too.
Somehow the latest patch has reverted most if not all of the "fixes" put in. Quite sad and disappointing.

Tinkerer is very strong on mobility killer that also have 1 gen defense perk (it usually paired up with ruin) i get it can be too stong so trying to balance it to make it less oppression is fine just not making it only have one time on each gen as it does make it weaker but too weak for people to have an incentive to use it.
Tinkerer used to proct at 85% repaired, and is now 70%. So maybe test it at 75% and 80% and see how it goes? Wouldn't that make sense in a PTB?
-
@steamed_hamzzz said:
How are they fair?
short answer is, they aren’t. You get the full effect of fast heals and no scratch marks or auras no matter what level you’re on and if the killer wants to stop this, they not only have to abandon chase but head off on a completely different floor to the survivor! By that time they’ve fully healed up and ready to bless the next totem
how this made it past testing I have no idea, you can tell the devs never play killer, I just had a match on Midwich and it was absolute torture, I got zero value from ‘A Nurses Calling’ and was losing track of survivors so much I just gave up on being nice and had to resort to face camping the hook just to try and secure one kill
Boon totems are bad enough on open maps, but on indoor maps, especially paired with ‘Iron Will’ good luck tracking anyone before they’ve fully healed mid chase
I play on an Xbox1 and I don't know how any update gets past testing for years now. A surv team having more than one boon effect up on more than one totem drops frames so bad right now.

I have been playing on PC since the game launched, and for the first time ever I played it on console about a week ago.
And the experience was god awful. I admit, I suck with a controller, playing killer felt really crummy. But the frames were inconsistent, the graphics looked fuzzy and grainy.
The survivors basically had the Nurse's power, missed multiple downs because of the poor network, and trust me, it was not my internet connection. Plugged in with a cable and everything, never trust wifi.
Anyways, all this was on a PS5 btw, can't imagine how it would be on the last generation consoles, especially the Switch since it isn't the most powerful piece of tech to begin with.
Appreciate the pov from a PCer dipping the toes into console for a bit. And oh boy yes it is much worse on the proir gen machines believe me.
-
It is also possible for any killer regardless of their smmr or waiting time to be given a group of survivors who have been waiting too long (like over 25min or more or something). Basically the matchmaking opens up the acceptable smmr range, the longer the wait the wider the range, and if way way too long it tosses in the next available killer no matter their skill.

I mean, why should it? It was not a successful hit, so no reason to play that animation.
I don't think it should either, just pointing out if it did it would be a further delay for the killer.

like i hit them before deadharding even takes place on my screen but instead they scream as if i hit them but they take no damage and just run off.
is this due to the "fix" with deadhard?
Yup yup. The killer can now see blood splatter, hear a scream, and even the beginning of the injured surv animation, but if the server decided "nope no hit" they scamper off unhurt. Kinda like hits across pallets is too now.
It could be worse. The blade wipedown animation could also play without a hit, but it doesn't thankfully.

I'm quite convinced on the contrary, since as I said it's stated in their game rules that obtain unfair advantages through stuff that isn't even supposed to be in the game is considered an exploit, therefore bannable, but aside this I'm tired in general about this topic being "unclear" if you know what I mean and i want a definitive answer once and for all from the devs
By that reasoning they should be banning for using filters, sound cards, the voice chats built into every Xbox or PlayStation, etc. as well, even if they could detect any of it.
It isn't practical nor enforceable.

You guys need to realize that the dev team only consists of around 800 people. You may think that’s a lot but if you look at other companies its very small. Activison has 10,000 developers and Blizzard has just under 5,000 working on the hearthstone properties alone.
I think we need to think about this, if there are let’s say, 50 main problems and 80 bugs for each platform and there are only 800 devs they can hardly split up people to work on each issue. So let’s just be patient and let them fix the issues.
btw im not talking about bhvr as a whole Im talking about just the dev team that actually cares about their game.
You would not say that if you still swam this spaghetti on the prior gen consoles.
Each and every update worsens gameplay performance if not coming awefully close to breaking it outright; being told repeatedly for years no M&K support, no Fog Whisperers, no graphics options, and no lobby chat; plus highly unlikely to ever get Cross Progression or 60fps,
