why does the survivor scream sometimes but not get injured?

like i hit them before deadharding even takes place on my screen but instead they scream as if i hit them but they take no damage and just run off.

is this due to the "fix" with deadhard?

  • Yes, it is.

The Hit is validated and the Server decided that this is no Hit (because they used Dead Hard). But because the game gives you the feedback immediatly, you see the Blood and the Scream. This will probably not change (at least not anytime soon), since it would mean that there would be a delay after every interaction, which would probably make the game feel very clunky.

Basically, if this happens, accept that they used you swung into a Dead Hard which they used correctly, which is the reason why you did not get the hit.

It's the new DH change which...urgh. Yeah, is kitten-eatingly frustrating because by the time you've registered that despite you getting the hit, and getting the visual indicator for said hit, the survivor isn't downed and has now covered half the map and is happily doing a generator.

Yup yup. The killer can now see blood splatter, hear a scream, and even the beginning of the injured surv animation, but if the server decided "nope no hit" they scamper off unhurt. Kinda like hits across pallets is too now.

It could be worse. The blade wipedown animation could also play without a hit, but it doesn't thankfully.

"The blade wipedown animation could also play without a hit, but it doesn't thankfully."

I mean, why should it? It was not a successful hit, so no reason to play that animation.

  • cheers for the replies, the game giving feedback that i hit (blood and survivor scream) but in the end i didnt, just confuses me, i wonder if they could fix the false scream and blood so it doesnt feel well clunky

  • BHVR thought to themselves "You know what isn't frustrating enough? KILLER! How can we make sure to really up that frustration factor?"

But yes, the new and "improved" hit validation is telling you that you cannot trust your eyes and you cannot trust your ears anymore in this game. But now instead of being contained to just pallets, any time at any point in the game when chasing an injured survivor, it might decide that your swing didn't actually count so sucks to be you.

I don't think it should either, just pointing out if it did it would be a further delay for the killer.
