I just wanna to see who I'm queuing against as a Killer AND solo survivor to dodge toxic parties.

Unlikely to ever happen, at least not pre-game. I have no problem with it in the tally screen myself. But pre-game all killers would dodge each and every three- and four-man groups completely. Those would never ever ever get a match. I also believe most would dodge far too many two-mans as well, and at least half of all survs are in at minimum a two-man. All of this would lead to nightmare lobby times all around.

It would be better to look into and address any issues with SWF then dodging them into a new and different incarnation.

  • Nevermind those who say it's hopeless & don't bother. That's pure nonsense.

There is useful info others have already given you here. To that I add you need to keep the overall match in mind ( some call it macro-play) and learn what exactly to do when as the game unfolds. And that comes from experience.

If you have trouble finding that first surv to go after Leathal Persurer or Corrupt Intervention should tell you where to look.

If your first chases are too long, it's usually because you unluckily found a very good looper, or a decent looper who went into an area where they're too safe. Learn when to disengage and/or switch targets.

Herding survs towards incomplete gens is also great for interrupting the progress of others. Survs who do not look behind them in chase are often easier to mindgame and down as well.

For teams they universally are suspectable to using their greed for all escaping against them. They absolutely will bodyblock like hell to prevent a death hook, and if you find this is happening to you often Mad Grit and Starstruck will help. When I run Piggy and get a huge map like Red Forest I locate and hunt near the basement, knowing it's harder to escape from down there and often pull two or even three survs down there.

    Good hunting!

Nearly every game i play on either side has a player DC. It really ruins games. People having to wait a few seconds for a game or even a few minutes isn't that big of a deal for most. Could you also increase timers as well as implement BP penalty for following games?

Also, is there any way you could distinguish intentional DCing vs a connection issue? If so, connection issues are excusable (sure some will simulate a connection issue but that would be a small portion of DCs tbh).

They cannot differentiate between connection issues and someone intentionally leaving a match. The penalties are applied the same either way.

So long as that's true and the game's iffy coding remains, any changes to these penalties must be carefully measured.

DH is stronger now than the old "DH for distance" because you get sprint burst distance on demand.

DH should give endurance but no movement speed buff. The problem is that it has always given better distance than both Lithe and Sprint Burst and as a result lets you waste more time.

Look at what happened to Eruption - the core effect that made it worth using got obliterated.

DH should get an equal treatment to where it goes down to 1-5% usage among top players.

They hardly look at top-player numbers at all, mostly usages in the middle grouping of players

  • Less relevant?

I finally got an Xbox series X. Still get stutters in the middle room of Lery's, especially against Freddy or Doc, and a few spots on Garden and Haddonfield and other maps. Sloppy Butcher being applied on any of them triggers a frame drop, and you know that perk will be run more often after the recent update. Exposed triggering for any reason can cause it to happen too.

The more ya run DBD it seems these issues slowly crop up again.

I don’t think it’s a priority for them tbh. They probably have the stats of how many use old gen hardware and don’t see it as a worthy time investment compared to other things

It’s not easy to work with near 10 year old hardware in an ever evolving game with ever increasing requirements to run

The vast majority of the playerbase is on console, and most of them are still on the older machines and Switch. Availability of the new consoles has improved but still isn't there for everyone yet, or practical to spend money on.

This game is nearly 7 years old and most of the machines out there are capable of running games much more demanding than DBD. It is just this game that they struggle with.

  • The performance issues and micro-freezes are cropping up on the newer consoles as well. Pulsar listed a few of the offending maps and locations that trigger them, and over time they are slowly worsening.

The graphics aren't the big problem, there is apparently a "bottlenecking" issue they know about but it being coding & memory based is much harder to solve. This is why all platforms suffer from the same optimization issues to some degree, and why being told just get a PC or upgrade is only applying a bandaid fix.

The game population is pretty stagnant, we're at where we were 3 years ago. Despite the improvements to the tutorial and some of the things for new players, there is still the glaring matchmaking issue which has deteriorated imo. The rank system was by no means perfect and had significant gaps between rank 1-2 players however the current random MMR has a tendency to chuck 2 noobs with 2 decent survivors against a noob or decent killer. The games feel more like stomps on either side now.

Those lopsided matchmaking issues stem from us lobby dodging, resulting in backfilling with only queue times in mind.

  • @Pulsar said:

I actually feel like it's fairly warranted.

Played against a squad of three streamers. All of them on PC, main guy had quite a few viewers. Two of these people were on Steam, the other was on Epic.

Two people DC'd while they were running, just completely gone. No pause, no running in a diagonal line, just straight up disappeared.

I "crashed" at the very end as well. I'm on Xbox.

Just in-case anyone was wondering if it was fixed. Oh, and yes, you do get a DC penalty for it.

And the penalty on top of it all. Salt in the wound I'd say, for a problem that doesn't apparently exist.

Ridiculous it has been allowed to go on this long. I'm sorry you get hit with this nonsense.

You can hide your name from showing on your own screen, but everyone else sees your name. Only PC players can hide their names from other players.

Sadly this. And regardless of any settings on my Xbox or on a game, the gamertags always appear on the "Recently Played With" lists.

I too wish this mode was again available to the consoles.

  • I doubt their coding could handle UE5 in the first place, so that would need a fresh from scratch DBD2.

As for the 2vs8 mode that too is a lot to ask of their coding. They tried running a third Zom Zom while developing Nemmy as an iri add-on. It tanked game performance so badly they scrapped the idea and changed the add-on. If that was bad on their in-house badass PC's just imagine running that on a Switch or my Xbox.

Are you asking for voice chat? Xbox already has that built in, and the app can also be used to connect people. As far as I know PlayStation cannot use either one, nor can Switch or mobile.

  • I remember another thread years back asking the red stain be tied to the movement of the killer somehow, also eliminating the skillful play.

    Former Trickster main here.

Yes. It sucks. Quite a lot. PC Trickster mains are few a far between. But being good with aiming is how to be best at Trickster.

With that being said, Trickster is essentially the "gun" killer with a "automatic gun" power that could be balanced in a game like DbD. He has multiple "ammo rounds" and "reloads" at lockers. He "shoots" out knives that require multiple "shots" to take a health state.

So you tried Trickster on PC with a controller? For me on Xbox his recoil is completely random and unpredictable, as well as very severe. Now add in frame drop issues and it's like impossible to group his shots. Plus no strafing. He's just a nightmare on console.

  • @NerfDeadHardPLZ said:

Survivor community has way to big influence on Devs, it's pretty obvious at this point

Just take a look when they nerf killer perks, they nerf it to the ground each time, yet when they change survivor perks it's with a lot more caution, care and so on. It's pretty obvious that this game favor survivors so much more and all those upcoming nerfs are just a step into right direction but very minor.

If you listen to top players on both side they will say you:

    1. Gens fly way to quickly
    2. Healing is big issue, if they reverse the patch it will still remain an issue
    3. 3 gen is an issue on certain killers but that got nerfed now with COB and Overcharge changes
    4. Map design is an issue, some maps are just way to big
    5. Survivor perk combination in SWF is just unfair, they can bring 16 perks, that is why gens do fly so quickly
    6. Red addon for Spirit is unfair
    7. Blight on a skilled killer is unfair
    8. Nurse is unfair
    9. M1 killers are mostly useless in High MMR

The upcoming patch is well deserved yet they are thinking of reversing some stuff just because low skilled survivors have so big of an impact on this game, it's just crazy

Take a look at addon changes they made for m1 killers, they buffed all USELESS addons, looks to me like some guy just pulled out a sheet where he saw low usage and was like hmm lets buff it, it might be good. From the addon buff, i can forsure say, devs don't play Killers at all, if they even play the game.

With all due respect to Devs, why don't you take 20-30 best killer and survivor mains that play comp to help you out in balancing the game ?

The thing to remember is they do not balance this game around the top most efficient gameplay, in either role.

So take all the tactics and data of the top 3-4 % or players, which you may belong to, bundle it up with the bottom 5% of newbie players, and toss it all aside. They focus on that middle grouping primarily when considering changes.

Whether that is the correct approach is for another thread.

  • @Maverick_74F said:

Like a actual fire arm with bullets or something like slinger? Because if it's just a gun then no that would be impossible to balance. If it's something like slinger I'd be curious to see what they come up with

This. Plus do we need another ranged killer that sucks on controller? Ever try Trickster with one?

  • I keep hearing various takes on this issue. One says it's an issue with BHVR and a security problem with them. Another says Steam it to blame, but Epic is ok. Yet another says both are vulnerable, and so are the consoles. A good many assert using a VPN is the only safeguard.

And a few say nothing at all is wrong, it's just your wonky Internets to blame.

More than one may be true, but not them all.

    Play with 8 perks lmao

You know that SFW are not common as SoloQ, right? And again, if you want limit survivors like that, then let survivors chose which killer to play against

That last stats on SWF from like 2019 stated half of all survs in at least a two--man group, with threes and fours much less common. With solo-queue just so delightful since that time, I have to believe the number of SWF groups have risen.

Much more recent stats would be quite welcome though.

    This is an interesting idea.

has Cross Progression without any licenced content been considered (assuming that's the sticking point)?

Ugh that sucks. I always thought it would prevent me having another match with them.

I've blocked people who worked with the killer, purposely got me killed and hackers (on both sides)

Oh well, I guess I may come across them again. ><

It works the same on console as well, just blocks comms with them not matchmaking.

The general consensus is that such complete blocking would be abused badly, whether it's a playstyle that's disposed,l or every good Nurse/Blight player out there.

  • It's not reportable but does suck. Letting you bleed out is cringe, but as others have pointed out you should go do a far gen and then get that last chase in.

  • @Seraphor said:

As people become more aware of backfilling, killers will end up dodging more. I know I do it, it's basically the only time I will routinely dodge a lobby, if I know I've been backfilled. And if I'm dodging a backfilled lobby, then that lobby had been dodged at least twice already, and is more likely to be dodged again. So it's like a chain reaction.

I don't have a solution, but you need to reduce the amount of primary lobby dodges. Why, other than backfilling, are killers dodging lobbies? Likely suspicion of SWF or "bad matchmaking", and the latter is itself probably due to a lack of understanding of backfilling.

I have no genius solutions either. I do think just showing prestiges post-trial would help. I do not think there should be blind lobbies as the killer should be able to adjust loadouts as they see fit.

However I'm torn on the last minute surv swapping, as with prestiges currently being shown it is the only way to not be dodged, but the nefarious swapping to all flashlights or same skins or whatever shouldn't be happening either.

The bottom line is we are actively making matchmaking worse with all the dodging, very much doing it to ourselves & knowingly screwing over others.

    Hi Devs

Can we have option to actually type perk names when making a build ? searching for icon only every time is just very time consuming, especially for killer mains who often change their builds

    Thanks

I wonder if typing out perk names slowly & painfully with my controller would be any faster than flipping through the pages...

  • @Brokenbones said:

Only reason I've dodged a few times is because I don't like facing the same people I just fought, especially if I'm playing the same Killer with the same build

It feels like I'd be giving them an advantage for no reason, plus it's boring facing the same people and I imagine facing the same Killer as the game prior would be boring too

Does this sound unfair to anyone? Genuinely curious.

Not to me, and I hopefully not a more common thing as the playerbase slowly slips away.

  • @Remedicist said:

Sadly, I've had to dodge lobbies due to server connection issues. I am unsure why, but it seems like the game places me into servers and matches out of my region because I constantly get the bad server connection icon on my display and lag around in-game in many matches. Others in my matches seem to experience the same thing. This does not occur in other server-based games I play, so I know it isn't an issue with my own internet connection (although, I did spend some time troubleshooting that). Is there a known server issue right now? I came back to the game recently, so I am not caught up to speed if there is, but I have seen some reddit posts discussing the same thing.

I would never hold it against anyone leaving matches due to demonstrated connection issues. I am painfully aware of them too, and being on console seems to make them even worse.

  • I've said this on a few other threads too. We know lobby dodging borks up the matchmaking yet we do it anyway, and then blame the system for any monstrous overmatched that it brings. I'm on console and can't even check Steam profiles if I actually wished to.

Imo unless you're dodging a known cheater/hacker it is a selfish method of trying to get our own version of a "fair match". Some will squeal about protesting a possible SWF, or squawk about too many medkits or whatever, but I can only see it as seeking easier matches. Period.

  • @Tsulan said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3371559#Comment_3371559

Its about the coordination. Yes, absolutely, solo survivors can body block effectively. BUT that usually requires a perk like Bond to actually see where the other survivors are in order to pull it off in a more efficient way than just getting injured and hoping for the best.

Even the more reason to give killers said SWF indicator. Since the HUD update was supposed to bring solos on par with SWF.

But you´re right, thats a whole different thread.

I just cannot see them adding a SWF indicator. The devs are loath to actively change anything that will increase lobby dodging, and such an indicator would to a truly insane level. And that in turn leads to much more backfilling & the resultant poor matchmaking. It's all interconnected sadly.

  • @Tsulan said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3371367#Comment_3371367

As i already said, completely valid as long as killer can prepare for it by seeing if survivors are in a SWF group.

You mean show SWF in the pre-game lobby? No way they'd be dodged into oblivion and never ever get a match. Why that is so would be another thread entirely. Post-game I'd have no problem showing that, but others do.

But it isn't just SWF that pull off bodyblocking. Any decent survs with good game sense will block for their mates. It is certainly much easier to pull off on comms but not unheard of. Good solos are very often bodyblocking at the open gates for instance.

All valid points IF killers could see what survivors are playing in a SWF.

But since killers have to take a wild guess, they can´t prepare for it.

Devs removed the killers ability to body block the hook years ago. Same should happen for survivors. Especially since there are still offerings that increase the distance of hooks and the RNG can make some hooks unreachable on certain maps. Survivors complain that killers slug, but what are they supposed to do, when they can´t reach the hook and survivors body block with DH?

Bodyblocking a hook is risky teamwork but completely valid, and often the only defense when the carried surv is on death hook. It's even more risky then a timely sabo play as they could squirt away and all you can do is slug.

As others have pointed out, there are perks like Mad Grit, Agitation, Iron Grasp, Starstruck, etc. all designed exactly to deal with this. If it happens that often to you pry off a gen regression perk & give one of them a spin. Each and every killer can get value from those perks. Also such altruism can lead to strong snowballing if taken advantage of.

Killers like saying "there's no guaranteed escapes" but it is also true "there's no guaranteed hooks" either.

Billy is in a horrible state since his rework. He is extremely weak. His power is absurdly difficult to use and each new realm rework seems to screw him over harder and harder with the amount of junk collision they keep adding. The latest culprit, Red Forest, has absurd hitboxes for damn-near everything. After the removal of SkyBilly, there's but a scant few Billy players who actually linger around anymore.

BHVR has done a pretty good job of almost out-right deleting Billy from the game. I'll keep this post short and simple, but rest assured, I could absolutely write many paragraphs about BHVR's incompetence when it comes to how they've handled Billy.

To start: yes, overheat sucks. It is a dumb, absolutely worthless mechanic that makes a mid-tier killer even more frustrating and difficult for new players to use. You could remove this mechanic completely from this killer and he'd still suck. Why? Because his basekit is garbage. His base movement speed is slow, his stun duration is unnecessarily punishing and damn-near all of his addons are terrible. He even has some addons that have a buff, with an even bigger debuff. Like.... hello? What the hell?

I am so glad BHVR's killer design philosophy has looked at the failure of Billy and moved past it. No more garbage addons that have meme effects on the killer. No more addons that offer buff/debuff tradeoff, where the debuff is significant enough to warrant not using the item.

I literally get comments daily like "I can't believe someone actually still plays Billy. I never see him." or "I love a good Hillbilly, it's been forever since I versed him." Billy is one of the most beloved, difficult and rewarding killers in this game, and it's clear you've moved past caring about him.

BHVR, you've messed up a lot in the past. A lot. Not just Billy, but he is a glaring issue of when you thought you knew better than the community, and took something we all enjoyed and completely killed it. Show the community you still care, buff this beloved killer. Give him an addon rework and buff his basekit to make him useful again.

As of right now, the only addons Billy has that are worth buying are: Doom Engravings, Death Engravings, Tuned Carb (depends on the map), and Lopro chains.

How in the entity's sake do you know how many chainsaw downs you have? I looked all over my Xbox menu & options, and all I can find is hours played, total number of kills, total number of escapes, total number of healing others.

Pease share your mystical ways with the class...

Sounds kind of terrifying with Lethal Pursuer, NGL. Plague at least has to walk to her free fountain and then walk to the survivors at 115 speed.

I think a better way of strengthening Oni against predrop fests would be to make it so that his power continues to passively charge to full... or better yet, that breaking pallets gives him some small amount of charge. Starting out with it is overkill, but this way he won't get completely stalled out either.

I like that build up his power through breaking things idea, and to it I'd add being hit with a pallet, so he's also absorbing his own blood too.

oh. Oh dear god. I recently switch from controller to M&K on pc and had a Trickster daily. And damn is Trickster easy on Mouse compared to controller.

Yeah even if we had stable frame rates Trickster is just a nightmare on controller. Can't group your shots due to the inconsistent & unpredictable recoil, and strafing is near impossible to pull off.

    Pure pain.

  • @Mooks said:

I assume you meant console, and if so that's a sad sad commentary on this killer with a controller 🎮.

Tried Oni a few times on my Xbox. Couldn't turn fast enough to land hits within his power, and flicks are unheard of. Even at max sensitivity.

it should only be allowed to start a party with 4 people, so there are no more 2 and 3 man swf, then an action d buff for the team, or solo q people get an action buff (make gens faster, heal faster) but in addition, ofc killers also get a buff like the last "killer patch" no matter what bhvr does, survivor become weaker and killer stronger, so in the end only solo q will do a lot of damage and at some point bhvr could beat it up so much that people let it go I would say that the number of experienced players in the solo q has dropped a lot since the MMR was changed and at the latest when the killer buffed were made, many switched to the swf

the strongest and easiest role in dbd has always been swf but since bhvr did everything that nobody in the community likes example MMR change: no killer wants to compete with hes cute 500h against a swf that averages 5-6k+ hrs and gets completely destroyed, a Experienced player with 10k hrs doesn't want to play solo q with hundreds of hours of players against an 5k hrs Nurse or Blight with a 500 win streak, ofc they prefers to play swf to have a chance and must killer got destroyed and many other unfun and unfair thinigs in dbd, then everything turns and turns no ending no sulotion keep your ears shut, eyes closed, "i hear nothing and i see nothing" but at some point the volcano erupts and bhvr burns itself

You only want 4-man groups possible? More than half of all survs are in at least a two-man, which is far and away the vast majority of SWF types. Threes and especially fours are way less common. This change would ensure the game dies as half of the survs stop playing.

  • The 2v8 idea has been tossed around here a lot lately. I'm pretty sure anything like that would require a complete recoding of the game from the ground up. The current shaky code simply cannot handle that much more going on without game performance taking a huge nosedive.

  • With all this dodging going on how can we not expect the matchmaking to be borked half the time.
