When was the last nerf to SWFs to bring them more in-line with solo survivors?
Someone told me they have never been nerfed and never will be nerfed as BHVR fear them?
Their intent seems to be to raise solo play as close to SWF as possible, not the other way around. The hud changes is the best example of that, something that absolutely helps out solos but didn't have a massive effect on SWF play.

he can still interrupt with a hit, just not with his power. He can literally stun lock survivors im pretty sure
It's his only anti-loop, being able to prevent vaulting for instance. No way we should make him weaker.

Besides soloq teammates, tunneling, camping, hackers and nurse. These little things like when you have Deliverance you're the first to be hooked, when you have a pallet mission you get nurse, when you have terror radius mission you get stealth killers. It all makes me feel like this game is somehow programmed to be as unfun as possible.
Reminds me of bringing medkits in with an "empty medkits" challenge...
And then you get Plague.

Far as I'm aware Breakdown utilizes the same properties of a Sabo'ed Hook, just on different triggers, but yes (though I'd probably be surprised if I was able to look at the code).
Hmmm. No need to treat Scourge Hooks any differently, unless you introduce a Scourge Hook Perk that augments Scourge Hooks in such a way.
A great many people would love to peep this game's code I imagine.
As the common joke goes, I might just have a can or two of that code in a cupboard somewheres...

And if it only works on non-sabo’ed/consumed Hooks and the Survivor can be grabbed during the interaction, should prevent sabo-squad/emergent dead-zone abuse.
They'd have to look at Breakdown as well. And as a bonus to killer, how about scourge hooks take 18-20 seconds?
-
@AssortedSorting said:
I'd support this if it wasn't simply copying the gameplay element of "crawl to a Survivor to get picked up" that already exists.
Instead, why not let Survivors "pick themselves up" with a special interaction at a Hook?
This special interaction being a distinct Action allows for independent balancing detached from existing systems.
Requiring the Survivor to be at a Hook to perform the "Persevere" Action gives the Killer an idea of where a Slug might be that they left lying around, an assumption that a slugged survivor might try to subvert too, instead crawling to another Survivor.
EG: A Dying Survivor can try to "Persevere" at a Hook, slowly climbing the base of The Hook over 16s, until standing in the Injured state.
Why such a short time? The Survivor first needs to crawl to a Hook, and the closer a Survivor is to a Hook, the closer the Killer would have been to simply Hooking them in the first place. So it serves as an incentive to not leave slugs near Hooks, while also allowing the Killer to assume a long time to "self-pickup" if a Survivor runs into a dead-zone.
I think this idea would be worth testing.

Repeatedly killer slugs people and goes after the last survivor so no one gets hatch. Is it fair?
It's not sporting for you, but it is for the final survivor. I very rarely see anyone DC on the hook so the last survivor gets hatch: only when they're left to bleed out. If you don't want that to happen, don't slug and run. Comit to hooking. Then last survivor already has so much stacked against them: they shouldn't suffer for their team mate's decision. If you got a 3k you already won.
This is prolly the sanest approach.
-
@_Demidrol said:
Repeatedly SWF use tactics where one disconnects and the last one escapes into the hatch. Is it fair? I understand if you forcing yourself die on hook, but just disconnecting is not sporting. Therefore, the idea: the hatch does not appear if one of the last two disconnects. What do you think?
The entire SWF has to eat the matchmaking penalty, so there's that already.
How would their system handle someone actually lagging out while there are just two survs yet? Not too common an occurrence, but does happen enough on console to be annoying. But I believe they cannot differentiate between connection issues and an actual manual DC.
-
@NoHookDC said:
Nah, I could see this being abused:
- Survivor 1 runs to a corner with no hooks. Killer knows he can't pick them up and hook them, so he slugs them.
- Survivor 2 gets chased. Runs to the same area. Killer downs them.
- Now the Killer has 2 Survivors in a hook dead zone, so he can't pick them up. But they can also pick each other up from the Dying state.
- Now repeat in every single game.
Oh yeah.
- And SWFs forcing the map to Midwitch while also forcing the Killer Basement into the Shack.
- They bring Boil Over and Sabo hooks and run to the School basement when chased.
- Repeat what happens that I wrote above.
So easily abused to never get put on a hook.
Midwich has no shack. Perhaps you meant Badham?
I do like us fishing around for some solutions to the worse possibilities while slugging, but this idea most likely ain't it.

I do wish we all could participate in the PTB as well. Seems nonsensical to exclude the vast majority of the playerbase to me.
-
NA-East region
Back when Blight came out that update caused all Xbox1x consoles to insta-overheat and shut down whenever DBD was started. A week later a patch fixed the issue, but my ping went from less than 40ms to 70-90 consistently. With no change in equipment or internet, and just for DBD.
It is entirely possible for an update to effect ping, especially on the consoles trying to digest their bottleneck-prone coding.
-
The intent was to roll out dailies for the individual killers you play the least, or killer in general if you mainly play as a surv, meant to encourage playing them more often.
Definitely a good idea imo, as I firmly believe more of the playerbase being at least competent in both roles would lead to some empathy for other players, possibly less toxicity as a result.

why does this even exist
The aim dressing is supposed to make all killer regular hits look like they actually connected when hit validated. In theory.
So basically the shorter killers like Legion's or Freddy's hits looked very much like they missed by a few steps in the survs pov, and the Aim Dressing is supposed to cover that up. Again, in theory.
In reality most of my Piggy's blades have gotten all banged up from hitting trees, rocks, walls, pallets, thin air, anything else but a surv due to it. Happens most often to me in tight spaces while the surv is butt-wiggling wildly.

Or, BHVR could fix the broken backfill system.
That would be ideal, yes.
But we are doing it to ourselves, and we know it too. It's the reason rookie killers get matched with survs with thousands of hours who've been dodged repeatedly, get completely wrecked, and then pop on here & rightfully complain.

Did you just miss the second statement i made or are you just willfully choosing to ignore it?
Also, why not try it out and see what happens for a weekend like they did with bloodlust?
Alternatively we could test a weekend without the ability to dodge at all, see how those matches go. No lobby at all, no seeing surv prestiges or items or cosmetics or hours or friends lists.
Queue times would improve, which seems to be the focus, and the matchmaking such as it is would be more accurate.

You mean adding penalties to lobby shopping, errr I mean dodging?
We already have something like that. With all the dodging we are ourselves willfully borking up the matchmaking, screwing others with all the backfilling and royally screwing new players too. Absolutely the best thing to do as the playerbase declines. Feels like penalties to me.

The performance dip has been noticeable. Even the initial DBD screen with the Easy Anti-Cheat logo that pops up when you just start loading the game takes about 25-30% longer to finish and disappear. I've had to drop the graphics settings a notch down from Ultra to get about the same performance I had previously with Ultra. Getting occasional hiccups and delays that weren't there before. At times the prompt for throwing a pallet isn't coming up.
My system has double the RAM as yours in DDR5, latest gen high speed M.2 drives from the top 5 best on the market, 13600K, on one of the top 10 mobos on the market with a minor overclock. My video card is current gen but a few notches down from yours. Using an edited .ini set to read-only so the game can't mess with it. All that and it's experiencing the same issues your system is and console players are.
Maybe they've instituted Console-Mode for everyone, level the Crossplay field a bit? How do y'all like it? You don't really need those steady 60fps do you? 😜😁

They should show SWF in lobby, it wouldn't create the dodgefest you think it would. If anything it would be a boon to solo queue, because if i see 4 solos in a lobby, i'm likely not going to sweat super hard and play out a more fun match. But if i see a SWF i know i probably need to bring my best stuff. The problem is now, i don't know if they are a SWF so i just sweat and bring OP stuff all the time, because i know if i don't and they turn out to be a SWF, i'm done for. So i play hard until i "guarantee" a win by getting someone out of the game fast, then i can play nice.
Additionally, if it DID create a dodge fest, they can prevent that by giving you a dodge penalty before you can queue again that increases over time similar but separate from the "DC" penalty.
The majority of the community seems to truly believe letting killers know of SWF before a trial would absolutely lead to mass dodging, as do I. And that would hurt queue times badly, and trash the matchmaking system too.
-
@CorvusCorax86 said:
The issue is not with SWF but with the matchmaking system. It does not allow you to prepare for the SWF. If it is a bully squad instead of BP the reporting feature should be made easier so that more people would report toxic gameplay.
How about giving a bonus for reporting? Similarly to the "refer a friend" practice at various companies.
There could be a "report the bully" ad in the menu saying you can get at least 100k for reporting toxicity be it gameplay or endgame chat.
Tying a bonus like that to reporting couldn't be consistent across the platforms. Using their reporting system is abysmally hard on the consoles. And our Switch cousins cannot even report at all, with their ability to record DBD being removed like a year and a half ago.

I don’t ever mess around with the setting because I would totally forget about it once switching killers. Thus I just have it on max sensitivity which probably screws me over way more often than I even know.
for any killer with aiming power, there need to be a second sensitivity setting for the aiming (also probably for flashlights on survs) - great QoL for controller players.
Yeah all the ranged ones need lots of fine tuning, even Pyramidhead imo. The dead zones on the sticks gimp controller killers and survs alike too.
Except Huntress. So long as she can launch homing Franklin Stoves at me, she gets nuthin.

Would be good QoL feature to have individual sensitivity settings for each killer tbh.
Agreed. I would like to see it tied to the loadout options, because although I am a terrible killer even I mess around with the sensitivity based on what perks and add-ons I'm running.
I also tried every setting combination I could to make something of Trickster, most of the perks too, but nope nope and some more nope.

If we imagine the situation when developers balance it somehow, would you like having mode with 2 Killers?
Besides fun of playing with friend I think it would help to gain new players aswell. Lots of people try new games because friends are inviting them to play together. The only option DBD has is to play Survivors together. But Survivors are too difficult for novices and most of the time you just hide in bush or hang on the hook nor of which is fun (=no active play). I played with friends 2 evenings, they uninstalled it few days layer.
The balance may happen by giving additional win condition to Survivors, giving repair speed boosts, more hook stages, more hits to down the survivor, giving ability to stun the killer or trap him.
There's no way their coding could handle two killers and all their assets. They couldn't even make a third zombie for Nemesis run without tanking game performance badly. Images trying to run all that on lower end PC's or the consoles, and it would prolly melt a Switch.
Cool idea for custom matches in DBD2.

No way lower end PC's or the consoles would be able to handle that with this game's iffy coding. That's the main benefit a sequel would bring, recoding the game from scratch. Prolly won't happen tho.

99% of people who use anonymous mode are just people who are toxic both in-game and after in the endgame chat. Since this is mainly for content creators to prevent in-game harassment, why not show names and profiles once the game has ended? Would probably prevent quite a lot of people from being as toxic.
One other thing, I don't know if blocking anyone actually does anything, so having some functionality with that would be nice, maybe so you don't queue with them. And you should be able to view who you've blocked, since you can't do that at the moment.
Blocking only prevents comms, not matchmaking. Otherwise it would be abused big time.

Hi there
I was just wondering why there are only stats available for steam users via the Steam API, why hasn't BHVR setup their own API so stats of all users can be checked on all platforms? I think that would be a great addition as it can show the true leaderboards for all platforms.
Also the steam API for DBD has some key values it could be tracking, like flash light saves, flashbang saves, how many of each items have been used or addons etc.
It can help smaller content creators grow if they have put time into the game and are high up on the leaderboards of specific stats
I'm not entirely sure, but I think the UEA's and privacy stuff for the consoles prevent stats by platform from being made available. If so such a thing like leaderboards would have had to come with the game originally, and not added later. Could be wrong though.
My Xbox lists very basic stuff like kills, escapes, heals, hours played. That's pretty much it.
Is there nothing for the Windows or Epic versions either?

Exactly my point. And there's a huge problem in maps like shattered square or swamps where the traps spawn at the literal edge of the map and we need to waste 5 mins just to pick up a single trap. Some small tweaks should be really appreciated and would make him much better.
I suggested adding more grass just in case the changing color of trap is hard to be implemented since there are different color variations in every maps. It would be cool to have thick grass added to open maps atleast so that survivors may actually have to second guess if they have to play the loop or not.
I thought the taller thicker grass was reduced/removed because of the game performance issues they caused the consoles & lower end PC's. If that is still the case, well there's the answer to that.
As far as camo traps, that's far more interesting and imo deserving of a PTB run to try it out.

also her dash attack should give people deep wounds...
also i think if you boop the snoot the person booping and the killer should get a cool 10k just cause

Why does keyboard support for menu navigation keeps disappearing with every other update?
A very long time ago we used to be able to switch characters using "Page Up / Down" (or "Home / End") like console players can use R3 / L3.
Recently we could navigate Rift Pages also using keybinds instead of needing to use the cursor. Now its gone.
Currently we still can navigate perks and cosmetics pages using the keyboard but I won't be surprised if its removed soon.
So my question is, why? Shouldn't it be the opposite way around? Add support instead of removing it.
I still find it mind blowing that console players must move a literal cursor instead of having the option to navigate using d-pad like any other game in existence.
"I still find it mind blowing that console players must move a literal cursor instead of having the option to navigate using d-pad like any other game in existence."
Wanna know what's even worse? Some of my biggest lag spikes & freezes actually are in the menus, particularly during the first time starting DBD for the day, and in the blood web it's bad too. And that's on an Xbox Series X.
