This is a semi-regular thing now on Xbox1 since the patch after Blight came out. Restarting the game cures it for a few matches for me.
Dunno about any other fixes.

I wish there was something console could do about it.
This. Hearing things like "sound card this" and "filters that" is very discouraging and increases the feeling of being at a disadvantage just by starting up my Xbox...

All Pigs I play against tunnel helmet Survivors. I cannot stand how unfun she is to face on console.
Yikes ya don't play piggy this way! I am rank 14 at best, as being a console killer is not the easiest and I suck. But even I don't target someone with headgear on its counter-productive, they aren't doing gens or even healing.
Should I come across one searching the jigsaw box I ignore them or slug, depending on if I'm in chase. Feels scummy to target them then I know I've been on that side as well and won't do it.

But, but why my Piggy??

Odd, since sometimes it feels like a small number tweak is all it would take to make certain killers/perks more bearable. I guess another question would be, why don't they just try small tweaks on more frequent patches to fix these long periods where it feels like they're not doing anything?
More frequent patches is out because it takes like a week for Sony and Microsoft to review and certify a single patch for console, and they consistently do all updates for all platforms at the same time.
It's why they try and stuff several changes into one single patch, and also why console cannot ever participate in a PTB.

The March 2019 dev update and roadmap outlined a detailed plan to get consoles and low end PCs running at 60fps, but it’s not talked about now nearly 2 years later and we still can’t even get stable 30fps.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/49456/optimization-status-update-road-to-60fps
This. No one in console wants to hear "we're aware and addressing it" and the like for YEARS. And no one wants to hear "welp the next gen consoles are so close & maybe they will..." either.
Together these very much feel like a PS4 and an Xbox1 are being forotten and left behind , intentionally or not.
-
I would be happy with even being able to participate in a PTB at all on console. Being able to try out and/or verse a new killer, roam on a new map, and run a new surv before they come out, even in an unfinished state, would lessen the adjustment time after the chapter comes out.
I agree all tools should be available to all players during the PTB for useful testing. And yes I am sadly aware of why console is excluded from PTB's and will likely always be excluded.

@Pulsar said:
Disagree.
The problem is not the controller's, but rather the FPS.
People have ZERO problem being amazing at CoD or Battlefield on Console. The issue is that they are simply given less time to react to new information.
When my game literally freezes when someone uses Dead Hard, even if I predict the Dead Hard, I cannot capitalize on what was a good read because the game is poorly optimized on Console.
I am sympathetic to the Devs plight, many things to do and not enough time to do them, but it is really discouraging and disheartening to see that Console's haven't really gotten that much love, even though it was promised years ago.
This is essentially the problem. Game studders while doing the camera spin when beginning a match. Frames drop when you gain Bloodlust, apply Sloppy, Expose a surv, be near a popping gen, the list is long and well known. And Entity damn the indoor maps the game's performance in them is so very very much worse.
When I only play killer a handful of times a week due to these issues, even with Crossplay off to attempt to level the playingfield, that is a sad commentary on where the game is currently at on console.

Not if you use manual updates as I do. Game wants an update, but it is not listed under updates. Restarting does not help, nor enabling auto updates.

It’s called Nvidia Freestyle and basically you can mess with the visual look of the game: brightness, contrast, colour balance, sharpness, and so on. You can use it to make your game super bright and clear so that even Blendettes shine like a beacon. Personally I use it to make the game less blurry and a bit brighter so I’m not squinting in the basement floor of The Game.
It’s not that different from messing around with your monitor settings.
Sounds like something well beyond my Xbox
-
Sounds like latency to me, but I can see lag making the problem worse.

If you're not using an exploit or third party software to get information or abilities that are explicitly unavailable to you, you're not cheating.
Speedhacks? Cheating.
Wallhacks? Cheating.
Lagswitch? Cheating.
NVIDIA filters? Not cheating.
Slapping a red dot in the middle of your screen to play Huntress/Slinger? Not cheating.
Binding Hag's teleport to an unlocked mouse wheel? Not cheating.
May a humble consoler ask what that filter thingy is?
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I'm a bit salty about this because the game's performance prevents me from playing Hag like that. I will be chasing a survivor right into a trap and will be preemptively spamming L CTRL, but the game still briefly freezes on the trap trigger and on the teleport, which makes landing that instant hit impossible. If I'm lucky I'll get a hit within a few seconds.
This is very true of any Hag on Xbox. The frame drops when she teleports prevent her from getting those tasty insta-hits, and flicks aren't possible. It's the main reason why I see a hag in high ranks maybe twice a month or so. About the same as nurse and her big ol bag of bugs.
On a side note I'd love to see killer usage per console lately, along with kills etc. We need more stats to twist and distort in the forums...
-
Yes this is a latency issue. On the killer's screen they are much closer than they appear to the survivor, say 3-4 feet roughly. So they swing at what looks like close range to them but to you the surv's feet have already landed after the vault, and maybe even taken a step or two.

If it’s any consolation, although most top tier SWF teams are bloody hard work, they’re usually also the most predictable survivors to go against, and that CAN be used against them.
Observe and take note of recurring behaviours across suspected SWF. For example: when I highly suspect SWF I usually slug more aggressively because there is almost ALWAYS a team mate that can be found close by either waiting for a flashlight save, or to follow me to a hook.
They are correct use their heightned auteristic gameplay against them. You'd be surprised how easily they can be induced to throw themselves and even the game to save a bud. Playing both sides and being in a group i know it is very painful to leave anyone behind, which often is a weakness.
-
Many piggys like to run Whispers so when it lights up you crouch only then because thst perk's range is about the same as her standing terror radius. This lets you know you are near a surv and can crouch immediately so they won't hear the heartbeat, and cross more map faster while running.
I don't use Whispers because I never look at my perks while hunting, but I am not a great piggy either.

anyways theres nothing i can do to show you its true but like if theres anyone you dont wanna go against then block them :)
Blocking on Xbox stops messages and requests/party invites on Xbox, but nothing lobby wise for DBD. I assumed this would be the same on PC.

Recent patches (4.2.0+) have KILLED the game's performance, I remember being able to run the game at 60 FPS at low settings without issue even with my 2 year old low-end PC before and now I'm lucky if I can get 40 without stretching the resolution. I have read about how it gives me an unfair advantage and I feel gross doing it but it's really the only thing that's working for me. Somebody please tell me they are doing something about performance.
I do not enjoy playing stretched because it looks blurry and gives me vertigo when I play for too long (besides the fact it's borderline cheating) but If I try to play without stretched, the fps often goes below 20 which is virtually unplayable for killers like Nurse which I play a lot of. I have tried to but simply can't stay away from DBD for more than 2 days, it distracts me from IRL issues so "just stop playing until they optimize it" doesn't cut it. I'm in college so it's not like I have the money to just upgrade my hardware which used to run the game just fine. I hope they fix this soon. Don't know what I'll do for fun if I end up getting banned for using stretched to be able to play.
If that is your performance on a two year old PC then you really do not want to know how this game runs on my Xbox these days.
Been waiting for that optimization and a consistent 60 fps for two+ years on console. We don't even get a steady 30 outdoors, and entity help us inside...

I’m new to the game and bought it because it seemed fun, especially the killer role. But I have really bad anxiety and didn’t anticipate how stressful it could be. My first game put me against purple ranked survivors. I hit three people the entire game. No downs. No hooks. I chose Billy and kept running into things, lol. I figured it was because I was new and they were so above my rank, so I tried again even though that experience was awful.
Luckily, after that first game, I somewhat consistently got at least two other grey/yellow ranked people. I managed to get to rank 13 with Huntress and only Huntress. But it’s mostly because new players literally run in a straight line. It wasn't long before I ended up encountering people who knew how to dodge, and I realized I’m a terrible Huntress. It's kind of amazing how bad I am at hitting targets.
So, how long did it take you guys to get to a point where you were at least semi-confident in yourself? Who did you start out with?
I’m not complaining about being bad, by the way. I didn’t expect to be a pro on my first few tries, and I sincerely don’t care about losing. I'm just asking because I feel extraordinarily bad. Like, worse than average. And it's kind of discouraging. It would just be nice to know about everyone else's journey into becoming a decent killer main.
And, side note, I really wish they had a tutorial mode for each killer.
Kinda have to relearn a killer with each patch at this point

As survivor I despise intensly any indoor map, but especially Lery's. Not just the poop layouts but the absolutely terrible frames in them on Xbox.
As killer I don't like getting Red Forrest it feels like three maps in size to me. Used to be the corn ones but I've adapted and had better luck on them for a bit these days.

Sometimes I can't drop them even when I spam spacebar.
Unless a Dr is zapping you regularly is say it's latency and/or the servers. Since a killer is often much closer than they appear when they swing at a pallet their hit is a split second before the game registers a pallet drop input. I can also see lag causing this as well. Not sure if pallets were changed lately.

Oh absolutely.
Ever since consoles joined my lobbies, there's been more running straightforward without plans and/or purpose.
I mean they'll use loops like normal, but from what i'm seeing, they don't look back as often, and thus going around and hitting them on the other side is somewhat more easy to pull off.
They also seem to like to 360 a lot more, which just never works.
Imagine it taking twice as long for you to swing the camera behind you and then back again to see where you're going. That's console life.
Also even I noticed fewer console survs using dh as it is much more of a crap shoot if it will work or not, and we all know how dh users move in a chase. One of the best surv perks used less because of platform performance alone. Just one example.

It's PC dominant because that's where it was released on and probably what it's optimized for. The optimization isn't the best for PC and it took me getting a new PC earlier this year to play on medium with a steady framerate. I get the struggle console is going through because i have played this game since 2016. First few years were on a awful laptop getting 15-30 fps more often than not under 20 fps.
Those frames and level of performance are common on console right now, today, after more than two years of being ported. I get the OP's fustration with feeling overlooked if not left behind. The recent event charm code system through the fog whisperers clearly illustrates how a fun idea was not even thought out from the console pov.
-
@Star99er said:
Not so much a Skill difference but rather limited capability. Console players don't have a much movement sensitivity and also are locked at 30fps(Not including the Next Gen Consoles). You're also unable to perform flick hits like you can with Killers on PC with a mouse and keyboard. It's reasons like this that Nurse is considered to be the worst killer in the game on every platform aside from PC where she's one of the best.
We are not locked at 30fps at all. Many other games can and do run smoothly at double that on my Xbox. It's DBD that doesn't. We can drop into the teens for frames on the indoir maps, or depending on what's going on anywhere.

Wouldn't someone adapt to using a controller the same way we adapt to a mouse?
Turning as a console killer is much more limited, which is why we can be spun and followed and such much more easily. And "flicking" really doesn't exist. You just cannot turn fast enough, or react fast enough, no matter the settings.
Add that to inconsistent frames, rollercoaster pings, bad lag, worse latency, aim-dressing costing you hits, and then sprinkle in the bugs & stuff we all share. Plus our PS cousins got wreaked this last patch.
No one should really wonder why there are few console killers out hunting, Crossplay or no.
-
I play both roles but much more survivor these days. This is due to all of the rampant frame/bug issues that harm the experience of being a console killer. Playiing with my friends and making new friends all is great, but man do i miss rollong out my Piggy and spreading jaws... i mean joy across the land.
Joy............ yes joy...

In order to settle the issues a lot of people are concerned with i feel that a petition can be good to help the devs take problems the community are having seriously. But I in order to make an effective petition it has to be for a problem that a majority of players see is a problem. This is includes both killers and survivors.
First the community (both killers and survivors) has to come to a consensus on a big problem.
Then have people on the forum sign there name on a post that is ment to be a post that is a petition.
The point of this should be to bring awareness to issues the devs might not see as important or not a problem according to them.
Performance & bugs. In short, gameplay health.
