I'd like to point out this game, as old as it is, is consistently approximately the 19th most played game on steam even counting single player non-online games. The only games that regularly double this are GTA (but that includes its single player) and Ark Survival Evolved (which also includes single player) and some free to play stuff (which I don't count).

This game is not going to be blown away by something that tries to clone it anymore than GTA is going to be blown away by anything that tries to clone it.

Ha, you can't compare GTA to DBD. BHVR are not even in the same league as Rockstar Games. GTA clones have never surpassed GTA because Rockstar Games are one of the best game companies around.

  • I played a bit of survivor last night and I was sure skill check zones looked bigger. Some of the "good" skill check zones literally looked like they took almost a full quarter of the circle. Almost 2-3x bigger than they used to be. I thought the "great" zone still looked roughly the same size.

I was surprised at this as skill checks were already pretty easy to hit.

  • I feel the perk is near-useless with its cooldown as it ends up being more confusing as you're like "oh, no pallets.. or is the perk on cooldown? *Checks perks* Oh.. no just no pallets".. That perk needs the cooldown removing. I tried it on Legion for a bit but it's a waste of a slot and I'm not good enough on him to basic run 3 and a half perks.

Demogorgon is supposed to sound like this. He/She/It isn't a human. It's a beast. So yes it's going to make a lot of sound because usually that's what animals do when hunting, or in this case, a cross-dimensional creature. Also, Doctor has extremely heavy breathing when he's walking, the same as Wraiths growling sounds.

Unsure if OP means to tone down the sounds from the Killer's perspective

He is kind of noisy which makes it hard to listen out for survivors at times. If he had keen animal senses he should be able to hear things around him so might make sense to tone down his sounds a bit from the perspective of the person controlling him.

  • They better not touch Ghost Face's teabag

  • Blame the emblem system for requiring the Killer to hook everyone

  • Played a few games, honestly the UI doesn't seem unplayable to me, if anything I like being able to see what character the obsession is now.

The animation for survivors running whilst injured is hilariously bad though.

But would be interested to see what issues people are having. Everyone is complaining but with no specific issues.

I feel like a lunge attack should impact the window and nothing past but a basic m1 should pass the window and hit the other side.

You think the lunge attack should go further than the basic attack?

  • But yeah I guess your point is correct, perks carry on both sides. A lot of survivor ones complained about are often considered second chance perks because they erase mistakes, whereas a lot of the Killer ones are usually rewarding good play, but perhaps not all (e.g. Whispers is a massive crutch if you haven't memorised map spawns)

  • To use the two perks you've given as an example.

    PGTW:

    • without this kicking generators is pretty useless, because it merely starts the regression, however this takes you a couple of seconds and can be undone with a split second tap by survivors, I'm sure you know the Killers time is more precious than survivors, so this balance is backwards
    • lots of people would argue pop should be basekit in all Killers, perhaps with a less powerful reduction, maybe 5% or something when you invest time kicking a gen
    • PGTW has a 45 second and was recently nerfed

Compare that to DS and, well we all know the problems with DS, it's discussed everyday and it is getting nerfed soon anyway.

But the fact PGTW is included in so many viable builds for almost all Killers shows you its maybe less of a crutch for "unskilled" players as it is an actual necessity of playing the game at high levels.

i didn't even consider linking the transformation to a timer that fills more when survivors blind or stun the killer, good thing i'm working on it as i go, hope you don't mind if i use this

    Nah it's cool

  • It would be interesting if the werewolf transformation progresses when breaking things, or considerably more so when getting stunned.

So as survivors drop pallets on the map they are giving him the resource to go stronger, and if you time the pallet drop and get the stun, he gets even more angry and more progression to the power. I guess everyone would just drop pallets early, but you are still giving him resource to use at some point.

If you get a flash light stun it could make him even more angry, doubly so when dropping a survivor. It's like the anti-bully squad killer!

Id be somewhat surprised if resident evil never became a part of dbd. I love the series and it could easily fit into the game. Resident evil is one of the more likely series to allow characters in other games so thats cool.

With that said, I could see a lot of other options be preferred for dbd. Im getting re8 but I'd much rather have someone like mrx, nemesis, Birkin, various options from re4, or Wesker. Survivor i would honestly prefer not having someone like Leon or Chris or Jill since they would definetly fight the killer. Maybe someone like Rebecca chambers, Ethan Winters (although probably not him), or Sherry Birkin would be better candidates. They would likely want them all from the same game though.

"They would likely want them all from the same game though."

Not necessarily, Pyramid Head is from Silent Hill 2 and Cheryl is from the first game.

  • I think the exit gate progress should regress to around 50 or 75% progress. Currently it makes it too easy for survivors to 99 one or both gates and then go back in for saves. It should be a hard/risky decision for the survivor to either make preparations to leave, or go back into the map, currently it's not even a decision, 99 the gates then go do other things.

Let's face it, if the Killer is going to win, usually they'll have already won the match whilst generators are still active. Usually if the game gets to this point, the survivors are winning, and this just gives them even more advantage to further solidify their win. Especially if there are 3 or more people left. If there are 2 or less people left then they are much less likely to go back in for saves, so being able to 99 the gates is less important anyway. It just seems to benefit survivors in games where they are already significantly winning, and they don't need help in this scenario.

Given that it's a latency issue, how would you fix it? Make it so that the killer cannot hit you once you've started the vault? Give survivors hit priority? How is that even fair?

Lol only came on for one game at lunchtime today, but one game was enough:

    salt1.png

  • Deal with it. Keys are unfair as it gives survivors an easy escape, and quite often the people who escape via key are screwing over their other teammates who might not be near the hatch to also escape, and are doomed to be stuck in the map with a Killer who now has to kill that person to hope to not depip.

  • @Anniehere said:

Please don't body block the hatch from a survivor who wants to escape, that's not fair.

The whole idea of the key is to escape early or late with it, people have to lose with dignity. otherwise where is the fun here?

If I'm the last survivor alive and have the key, I would rather have the killer chase me instead of body block the hatch from me to get another kill.

It's ruining my gaming experience in every way and if I play as a killer, I will not prevent the survivor from using the key in a fair way.

It's literally the killers objective to stop survivors from leaving so how is it unfair to prevent them from doing so? Unsure if you are trolling here.

  • Would be great if the game would show you how many matches and/or hours you play with each Killer.

I usually play Huntress, Legion, Oni, and lately Spirit

    Thank you based JPA.

Glad you're also enjoying her! Need some more perks on her but Unrelenting and Discordance have been more than good enough for me to have a good practice with her. Didn't try any add ons yet, I think that's when the salt really comes out

  • Dead Hard: Playing beyond a certain rank is tiresome as you basically have to hold back on pretty much every hit when someone is injured. If it's used to extend a chase that's already overran, it's literally game winning as well.

Adrenaline: this is a "win-more" perk at its best, to add insult to injury when you are getting beat, the person you were just about to finally down goes back to full health AND gets a speed boost, making the last 20 seconds or whatever you invested in a chase completely wasted.

DS: doesn't really need an explanation, but nothing quite like getting hit by the anti-tunnel perk when you are either doing well and cycling hooks so fast, or simply trying to rehook the 1 kill you managed to scrape by the end of the game which was just unhooked in your face. Nothing really makes you feel less powerless in the Killer role (other than the teabag which inevitably follows)

  • Would be nice to remove ranks all together, although I suppose MMR + rank purely for BP rewards is a step in the right direction

  • Dead Hard I would certainly say is a crutch perk as it can erase mistakes if you're not good at looping, or extend your loop by minutes if you are a god looper.

I’m not talking about the ones where the killer has no choice otherwise or the ones where it’s the only strategic decision. But a lot of killers camp/tunnel just because they can and it makes the game easier. This still gets defended by most killers on this forum as being part of the game.

And before anyone says it, no I don’t agree with suiciding on hook. I just don’t like hypocrisy

Fair enough, yeah I guess camping/tunnelling the first person you see at 5 gens is a different case. Unless its an OoO user lol

exactly my point. kind of. like i said in other reply, mostly its me not wanting to learn another killer, but as you stated, its not really suited best for him. on other killers im learning/playing more (branching of mains) demo, legion, mikey, etc, tops i have is level 1. and thats on legion.

It's still super useful on him and is rated A (https://dennisreep.nl/dbd/perk/3), so worth equipping. But yeah maybe Discordance or Thrilling Tremors is more useful?

Ah got it, only killers are allowed to ruin other people’s games

There's a difference between rage-quitting on the first hook because you given up, and camping a strategic position as a Killer, because you want to win.

In the first instance you could easily come back and win the game, but by quitting you are making that unlikely for 3 other people. In the second instance, camping a 3 gen or contested hook might be the only way to win a game against good survivors. What's the other alternative, just leave the hook when people are obviously dive bombing it, or standing at the other side of the map far away from gens?

  • @Mugombo said:

It’s actually funny because killing yourself on hook ruins other peoples fun and killers get really righteous about this and say how bad it is to do/it should be punished.

Yet camping and tunnelling ruin someone else’s game too but because it’s a ‘viable strategy’ it’s completely fine and should be punished.

    The hypocrisy is real.

Camping and tunnelling can contribute to a win though whereas suiciding on hook obviously does not.

When you take a new killer for the first time, MM gives you weak survivors. This is already working as I see it. With a large number of games in a row on one killer, the system will give you much stronger survivors. Therefore, first games are often easy. Good survivors still can beat you. Even the Spirit. But yes, Spirit is a really strong killer. Enjoy.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1923470#Comment_1923470

These tips for how your opponents should play :D How about a look in the mirror? "Stop playing with small PP perks - DS/Unbreakable/BT/DH", "stop play easy way with SWF", etc. Main survivors consider "balance" killers only those against whom you can easily make 3 circles around the pallet.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1923480#Comment_1923480

In reality, the reason she gets lots of kills is because most survivors are bad and can't understand the counter play I laid out above. They try to play against her like the other killers.

True. I am also Clown Main, and I often get easy hits, when survivors try to palletloop me like they make with a most walking killers.

I thought MMR was not on yet?

  • @Blueberry said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1923442#Comment_1923442

Since she's a 110% move speed killer you rely on her power for hits. This means most your hits will be coming out of phase.

When they're injured it's the skill of being able to pin point location based on sound. This is the easier part.

The harder part is your first hit before they're injured. Generally speaking you're barely hearing them if at all. That means for this hit you're relying solely on your game experience to predict their movements. IE unless they've been playing badly I'm going to assume when they run to a loop they'll be waiting on the far side away from the pallet generally. They'll be assuming that I'll think they're waiting at the pallet.

A lot of Spirit is hearing, but even more of it is game knowledge and getting inside their heads to know what they're seeing, hearing and thinking. It's all about manipulating the information they receive to get them to do what you want. This information applies when countering Spirit as well.

Here's some examples from both perspectives:

As Spirit: I'm chasing after them across the field and then mid chase I will just stop moving and stand still while they are still running away from me. Many will see this and now think I'm phasing towards them and start walking back towards me. If they then start walking a different direction slowly, then I will phase to that spot where they don't think I saw them walk to. The counter play here as survivor is to walk out of LoS so that no matter which one I was doing I'm not gaining a hit from it and wasted time.

As Survivor: She's phasing after me towards a loop. I fast vault the window and then after a couple seconds slow vault back over. This just manipulated what she saw and heard. She saw scratch marks to the window and heard a vast vault, that's it. Now she's going to assume I fast vaulted and kept running so she will phase around to the other side. Now she wasted all that time and has to waste more while her power is on cooldown.

I can go on and on with more examples for both sides of this but the principle remains the same. On either side you have to be understanding what information the other person is receiving and manipulate that to trick them. Aka mindgames.

This is the skill she requires above all that most other killers do not require or require very little of it.

Lots of people like to call Spirit easy or that she has no counter play because they don't have an understanding of how to play as and against Spirit.

    Here's the real irony:

People think Spirit is easy because they get lots of 4k's with her. IE they interpret lots of kills as meaning she's easy.

In reality, the reason she gets lots of kills is because most survivors are bad and can't understand the counter play I laid out above. They try to play against her like the other killers. Her counter play actually requires a much higher level of skill than the other killers. IE they all died to Spirit in a match and say it's because she's easy, when in reality it's because they were bad.

Thanks for explaining. Yeah since my first 4k I've had a few 2 and 0Ks with her now, definitely harder than I was expecting

Not that im agreeing with OP's actions, but the issue is that if they just go "Oh, its one game, it wont happen again" itll just keep ending in him getting steamrolled over and over, so he has to assume the next survivors will be toxic.

If there was a way for killers to tell who was toxic, who's nice etc like an ingame rating system, then you might actually see less and less killers do this (unless you are one of the ones to deserve it). Until then, the survivor community as a whole need to stop it, otherwise its just a downward spiral.

The problem with the in game rating system is it would just be abused, whenever someone loses to a "tunneller" or "camper" they will just vote the person down.

I'd put her in the top 10-15% skill requirement killers in the game.

At least 50% of the killer roster requires near nothing but basic map pressure understanding and knowing how to run tiles. That's very little skill requiring.

We aren't talking about how much skill in total they require to be good, but comparatively to each other.

What skill requirements would you say she has on top of these? I noticed she relies on her power a bit to get hits, given her movement speed.

That’s kinda fair but when I play clown I honestly rarely get people being toxic but that’s just my experience.

The aim of the game isn’t to nessacarily destroy the survivors it’s to hook as much as you can. This is why I hate people who try to 4 man slug every game.

I just enjoy playing a weaker killer because my wins feel earned. If I play Freddy my wins are handed out on a platter but when I 4K with clown I feel very proud you know.

Maybe we have different ideas of what is toxic. But yeah to be fair I could go a few games without seeing anyone who is toxic. I think maybe only 10-20% of games I will see someone I describe as toxic. I still find Killer stressful, and it still annoys me when you get survivors teabagging thinking they are gods for making easy plays.

Yeah now you've got me really interested. I'd give it a shot. I've been playing Legion these days, sounds like a nice change of pace. As Legion I'm not very scary, I just stab stab stab.

Ah I love Legion, again I find him hard to play at high ranks though, but he's great for practicing chasing, since you're basically engaging with survivors constantly throughout the trial.

With Spirit, I've been enjoying the mind games that come with going into the haunting power and not being able to see people who are walking without the scratch marks. Like everything, it's a bit harder than I thought, as when people are walking around its a bit harder to predict. But overall chases have been pretty quick, so I'm finding I can still put some good pressure on with her (and this is without corrupt, pop, bbq etc. as I have no perks with her yet)

  • @Shirokinukatsukami said:

Sure, I'm well aware that it was down to my own skill I lost that match as Demo. Also I will acknowledge these survivors are likely to have 100s if not 1000s of hours more than me, I only started playing this game in October, and I'm aware it has some old timers.

Well I've really enjoyed my first two games with her. It feels like you're actually a powerful/scary killer for a change, when you often feel powerless against good loopers.

  • @Phasmamain said:

Do you really feel any better destroying random survivors who weren’t toxic to you as spirit because some random other survivors were toxic.

    Doesn’t seem right to me

It's not like I'm taking out frustration on these survivors. The aim of the game is to destroy survivors anyway.

The point I am making is, survivors complain about Nurse, Spirit, any perk combination that is powerful. Yet, when you play a Killer which has counter play, or is not at all OP (i.e., one that survivors enjoy playing against), they often are toxic as possible. This isn't going to lead to more people playing those Killers. I guess this is just another, I got tilted by some toxic survivors thread.

I just played a 2nd game and I only got a 2k that time, but the survivors seemed good.

Isn't he a survivor main? I've only ever seen content from him playing as survivor. Not being funny but the mindset required for Killer and Survivor are quite different. Sure survivor can be stressful at times, especially against a good Killer, but playing Killer is low key stressful at all times, even against a team that's not decent

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    Keep your expectations low.

That anxiety feeling you have before queuing for a killer match happens to me too. My advice is play a few warm-up games perkless (not expecting to win) with your favorite killer and see if that puts you in the mood to keep playing to actually win.

+1 to both of these. I also started playing perkless for 2 reasons, 1 it almost gives you an excuse for your loss, so you don't feel as frustrated when you do, you were basically expecting to lose. Also it can help improve your game sense being forced to not rely on perks.

  • Don't focus on winning, just focus on trying to improve your play, i.e. keeping chases short.

Just know that the matches which are stressful are the best ones where you will learn as you are probably playing against good survivors. Try and enjoy these matches as a learning experience rather than a stress fest.
