Possible Matchmaking Fix
Matchmaking is probably one of DbD's worst problems by far. How can you ever hope to get better if your a green rank matching up with a full team of red rank survivors every other match? So here's my solution:
Casual and Competitive modes. That simple. Casual ques you up without the ranking system, and awards no pips or depips per match, maybe with slightly less bp. Comp mode MUST be played to maintain your pips and still offers depips but also higher BP gains.

imagine the hour long survivor queues.
All the competitive killers and teams would just jump on casual to steam roll someone trying to have a chill match.
I've noticed that it's more likely that ppl become too casual in normal modes and just use the excuse but it's casual so who cares to do whatever they want. I doubt you'd get too many enjoyable matches out of a casual mode in dbd.
Siege has an unranked and ranked mode too. Both are sweaty and people use the same strats.
Unfortunately the easiest solution is the simplest one, change nothing and get good from trail by fire. I'll always support the belief that all Killer mains new and old must not find this game fun, it should be a neutral experience that you don't want to play but do anyway.
The issue is people try to merge DBD with other games/play styles. The only thing that's going to "fix" matchmaking or equal player ranks is a hard lock on player composition based on rankings. Greys with greys, reds with reds, and even then it's not fool proof. Expect hour long queues (if you get one at all) and at the end of the day people will troll, purposefully de-rank and moving up will be even harder than it is now just to have 2 bad games keep you yo-yoing between ranks.
yes matchmaking is so terrible for killers, like so terrible for them it must be so difficult
See, and matchmaking isnt just terrible for Killer, but for survivor too! This only reinforces my statement. Thank you.
Exactly.
Im not against the idea anyway, but until they cannot ensure that this could not happen, it would be a huge owngoal.
At the same time, if you are able to ensure that nobody can abuse the system, you are able to create a fine matchmaking.
The suggestion has been made many times and I'm all for it. To address the very fair concerns on queue times and sweat games in swf:
Casual matches should be a smaller version of ranked. 1-2 (whatever is balanced) against 4 survivors who are all one hookable. You then make the lobby dynamic and you can vote to rematch etc etc. As for playerbase being small I've seen smaller games do it and do it well. More power to the player is never a bad thing. It should be up to choice what I feel like playing in dbd.
This also addresses any sweatiness. You can't be tunnelled or camped if you're granted only 1 hook each and as killer you don't have to worry about BT, DS etc. No hatch. I'd also make the bleedout like 15 seconds whatever balances to the 1-2 gen condition. A casual gamemode for this game would be cheap to produce and very practical. Hell they could even pull of sandbox and mods and all that good stuff. This game would go nuts.
The key here for a successful casual gamemode is high game counts per hour. It needs to be once you're sacrificed the game has the next casual game searching as soon as you hit the hook and as soon as the killer 4k's or survivors escape.
Would be nice to remove ranks all together, although I suppose MMR + rank purely for BP rewards is a step in the right direction
Exactly. The BP gains would (hopefully) entice the sweatier players to stay in ranked, and altered rules would counteract some of the more tryhard tactics on both sides.
