  • Twins, Trickster and Hag are other killers I hate to verse, but for me Deathslinger is by far the worst.

Looks like you got pretty upset about me calling out the advantages you get. By all means use your ugly graphics and filters, I dont need them to play well. But stretched res is cheating while the others are just advantages. And my performance is great thankyou, no issues what so ever on the new gen and I'm able to run the default graphics not setting it to low. Dont get upset because people dont support you changing how the game was made to suit you or as you say "help to use your skill"

Wdym, I'm not at all upset XD. I don't care what other people think, I will continue to play the game with the settings I want. If I like low settings because it means I can see the game better, then why not use it? It's an in-game option. If I like the look of a filter, why not use it, it's just my GPU software?

Now arguments against stretched res I 100% can understand, hence why I even made this post in the first place, because I want the game to be more fair for all players. I'm happy to debate that, but you can't say that just because someone uses filters, they're looking for unfair advantages. That's crazy. Not everyone has the same monitors, PCs, overall setups and opinions. You might like the game's brightness as it is, others may not. That's why 95% of modern games have a brightness slider (but not DBD oddly). Asking for some basic graphics settings that DBD desperately lacks is not a particularly outrageous idea.

I do agree to an extent that the newer animations don't 'feel' as good. However, I still prefer the newer ones. They feel good enough and as I said previously, I wouldn't mind the Devs revisiting the animations to smoothen things out. They won't, but I wouldn't be opposed to it if they did. Provided that they don't bring the old animations back, that is. I honestly cringe a little whenever I'm reminded of what some of the old animations looked like, lol.

Fair enough, I can understand that. For me the main thing is the movement, the animations are less important for sure, and I think my desire to have them back is more based on nostalgia than anything else. I can get how some of them look a bit cringe XD

  • Oh, you want Billy to finally be fixed? Here, take 300k bloodpoints and a new cosmetic for just $15.

Seriously RIP Billy man. The nerf was one of the biggest mistakes ever made by BHVR on this game. They're just leaving him to rot.

  • @RoboMojo said:

When the old animations were initially gotten rid of, I wasn't too pleased. However, the Devs made the newer animations more smooth and now, they've kind of grown on me. In fact, I honestly think the old animations were kinda bad. I've looked back at some old gameplay and the old injured animations in particular looked kind of ridiculous. I wouldn't be opposed to making the new animations a little more smooth but in my opinion, none of the old animations should return.

That's interesting, because I would say the complete opposite. My biggest complaint about current movement compared to classic movement is how the old movement was so much smoother feeling. I felt so much more free with classic movement, whereas now I feel kind of restricted. I also don't really like the animations, not that the old ones were at all realistic or anything, but these current ones look strange to me.

  • When 4.5.0 came out, I thought I'd never be able to play the game again.

When they fixed the horrible 4.5.0 movement, I still disliked it, but was at least relieved the worst of it was gone. I hoped I would get used to it eventually.

All these months later, I still miss the classic movement so much. I mean the current movement doesn't feel awful or anything, it just feels restrictive and weird to me. The old animations I also prefer, but maybe that's more out of nostalgia than anything else.

I would even pay money for a DLC that reverted the movement and animations back to what they were.

  • Deathslinger, Twins, Trickster and Hag.

"I hate to verse Billy", said no one, ever.

  • You can use a tutorial like this (it's a very easy process):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3abUylq10U

I should mention that this isn't officially supported. EAC doesn't currently ban players for doing this and neither will the Devs, but when it comes to modifying game files in any way, it's always at your own risk, so keep this in mind.

    Hope this helps :)

  • They're either joking or they're just idiots, not even really worth talking about them.

Tbh I don't even see this very often, in fact for some reason I've found end game chat to have become a lot more friendly over time, but maybe that's just because since crossplay was enabled, a large amount of the people you face are on console so can't talk at all after the game.

When those 'preferences' alter the gameplay experience by giving you an advantage, in a game that is all about visual cues, then yes, it should be limited. The fact that PC players can lower their settings to make things much, much more clear, while console players have very limited settings and cannot make their game as clear, is a problem.

Well I agree, console players should be allowed to change more settings, hence why I believe brightness and FOV sliders should be in the settings menu. What I'm proposing hugely benefits console players.

Ah yes, I prefer the low graphics argument because everyone prefers the game looking like it's on a PS2... you legit just said you like the brightness, you like it bright as you can see more making it easier for you. THAT is an advantage over all xbox and playstation players, same as filters which dont make it look nicer or better, its purely so scratch Mark's, red stains and other things are far more visible.

You use stretch res (unfair advantage looking over/round loops)

You use Low graphics (makes the map empty, brighter and easier to see all things especially in the distance)

You use filters (makes red stain, scratch Mark's and other aspects much easier to see)

All these are competitive advantages you are using, they do not make the game look better. I do bot want my game to look disgusting to be on an equal playing field. Just admit you like the extra help and be the end of it

I'm sorry, but what you're saying is crazy. Since when has using filters or changing brightness ever been considered an exploit? If I prefer my game to look brighter or the colors to be enhanced, why can't I do that? I'm not hacking, I'm not modifying any game files, I'm just using my GPU drivers. If using GPU drivers/software is considered cheating, then literally half of all PC players in this game are cheating.

Of course console players can't do the same thing, but that's just the nature of the platform. They're not designed to be able to do that, modern PC software and drivers are designed with that in mind.

So in terms of admitting I like the extra help - yes, I prefer my game to be actually playable where I can actually see what I'm doing in order to use my skill, and yes, I prefer to not have FPS drops that affect my performance in a game. But oh well, guess I'm just a dirty cheater XD.

This. I will never believe someone is using stretched res b/c they can't run the game otherwise. Its purely to have an advantage. You can have a GTX900 series or even worse, and still run this game on all low settings. People shouldn't lie about why they use stretched res either, its pathetic. We all know you use it because you know it brings advantages and you 'want' those advantages, its not a necessity. Don't spin it that way.

Not at all. This game is not well optimized, even on PC.

I used to be a native player for a long time. The moment I switched to stretched, the performance difference was immediately noticeable. Lag spikes were less severe and FPS was higher. It's simple, if you're rendering less, your performance increases. If I wanted stretched res to cheat, I would use something like 1080x1080. That argument isn't consistent.

  • @Jago said:

Agreed. Uniformisation toward platforms is needed.

FoV, Brightness, Quality... All players should have access to the same basics.

Exactly. Naturally there will always be differences between platforms like custom game filters etc on PC, but the basics should be available to all users. It's crazy how limited the graphics options are in DBD.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2378879#Comment_2378879

So dont have it set to ultra... seriously the game is meant to be somewhat dark. Us console players put up with it being dark without editing a bunch off settings. Still stands that low graphics, filters, stretch res etc. Are benefits and alot of people use them as so, low graphics looks nasty same as filters I just wish people was honest about it helping them.

I play how the games designed, this is why I always hate crossplay with pc, pc tend to ruin it by changing settings

I genuinely prefer the look of Low settings because of the brightness. That's why I can't use Ultra. Also hang on, are you saying PC players shouldn't be allowed to use filters or change settings? That's literally one of the main reasons people play on PC: the versatility. Not everybody's setup is the same and not everybody's preferences are the same, that's what's so great about filters and modifications.

  • @EntitySpawn said:

No point in FOV slider you will just use what gives the best view. Killers are also first person bot 3rd like survivor.

Honestly this post seems like you want people to accept you as a stretch res user.

For me no, whether its filters, stretch res, mods, crosshair, low graphic settings etc. Its used for advantages, I dont like people that play with advantages

But at least an FOV slider would be fair, no? It's not like this is some kind of strange, obscure setting. A huge amount of modern games have this as a feature, including competitive games, and DBD isn't even competitive.

I don't care if people don't accept me as a stretched res user, I will continue to use it either way unless something is done to improve the performance and settings of the game.

Interesting you mentioned low graphics, because I'm forced to use that too, since the game is so damn dark on ultra and for some reason DBD is one of the only games ever not to have a brightness slider.

  • @JimbusCrimbus said:

The whole "people use stretched res cause it's not optimized to run at 1080p" argument is nonsense. They use it for an advantage.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2378451#Comment_2378451

No it shouldn't. FOV should be locked per aspect ratio.

I didn't say it wasn't optimized to run at 1080p. I said the game isn't optimized well at all.

Why are you trying to hide the truth? Everybody know it gives an advantage above others

I didn't say it can't give an advantage. I just said it isn't bannable.

  • Not just you, I feel like that's the case for me as well. A shame most of these maps aren't even fun to play on.

  • @mrgrimes said:

"stretched" resolution should be in game settings by default

Well this is the thing. If these steps were to be implemented, then people with reasonable stretched resolutions wouldn't even be affected, since they could still change their resolution and change their FOV. It would just be limited to prevent absurdly stretched resolutions from being used - those which give an actual noticeable advantage.

  • Most likely a cheat (hack).

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    Wow

Banned for what though? Simply using a different resolution is not ban worthy.

When people are talking about stretched res they are specifically talking about the kind that lets you see over tiles.

If that isn't the case then no, no one cares

What do you mean 'the kind that lets you see over tiles'? I don't think you quite understand how stretched res works in DBD. Because of what is presumably a fault in DBD's graphics engine, any non-native (non 16:9) resolution will give an alteration in vertical FOV. There's no type of stretched res that doesn't give you a change in FOV. In fact, technically, if you stretch it the other way, you get less vertical FOV (a problem which I believe people with ultra-wide monitors face).

The only way I could improve game performance without using stretched res (and therefore giving me more FOV) would be to run at a lower 16:9 resolution, but the reason why I don't is because they aren't nice to watch or play with. I much prefer the look of 1440x1080. Yes, I get a slight advantage from it, be it mitigated or not, but at least I can actually play the game somewhat comfortably.

  • Not sure if there's really a singular place where all upcoming events are posted. Officially, upcoming events are posted on DBD socials, and the rest are leaks or predictions based on previous releases.

As far as I'm aware, upcoming events are:

27th July - Mid Chapter release (confirmed)

28th July - New Rift opens (I don't think this is officially confirmed, but most likely based on predictions)

29th July - Bloodhunt begins (officially confirmed on Twitter)

  • @Sonzaishinai said:

Stretched res allows you to see over some tiles which you normally can't over.

It is cheating. Whether that's the intend of the stretched user is irrelivant

I cannot smoothly play the game on native. If the game was well-optimized, I wouldn't have so much of a problem with non 16:9 resolutions being banned, but stretched is essentially my only option to make DBD playable. I never use more than 1440x1080 in public matches to mitigate the effects of the FOV gain. I can understand 1:1 resolutions being completely unfair in public matches, but surely 4:3 isn't that big of a deal?

  • I've noticed sometimes mine goes from around 30ms in lobby to 40ms in game, but nothing much more than that.

I think a slightly higher ping in game than in lobby is to be expected though. On the basis that your ping increase isn't too big and it still remains stable, it doesn't seem particularly unusual to me.

  • As a player who uses stretched res, this argument always annoys me a little, because I think a lot of people really fail to see the reasons people use it other than extra FOV.

Even though I like the look of it, the main reason I use 1440x1080 in public matches is simply because the game isn't well optimized. It's impossible for me to play at 60fps and record at a smooth framerate without it, so playing on native 1920x1080 isn't really an option for me. My PC is relatively good, I can generally play most games at around high settings at HD, but the optimization in DBD, especially in recent updates, has been especially poor. I never play more stretched than this in public matches, and in my opinion no one should. Comp of course is a completely different story, but I won't go into that.

I respect how the stretched res topic can be annoying for console players who experience even worse optimization and cannot do anything about it, but unfortunately I think it's simply the nature of the PC platform. At the end of the day, PCs are designed with technical modifications in mind. You cannot stop people from using filters or changing their resolution through their GPU drivers. The customization and versatility is one of the main reasons people buy/build gaming PCs, and you should be able to take advantage of that as a PC user.

  • The ONLY thing I think is fair is telling the killer who was in what SWF group (if at all) on the UI once the game has ended. Other than that, killers should not be told anything and certainly shouldn't be able to choose if they play against SWF or not.

People really over-exaggerate SWF. 95% of SWF teams are perfectly beatable if you play well and a majority are there to just have fun with friends, not to sweat like hell. Punishing people for wanting to play with their friends in a team game just seems stupid to me.

  • @RoboMojo said:

Slight side tangent but I'm genuinely curious. When did the Devs say we'd get prestige rewards? I know that rank rewards are on the horizon (as seemingly small as they may be) but I haven't heard about prestige awards.

I think it was mentioned several months back, but I haven't heard anything about it since. Tbh I completely forgot it was a thing.

  • Most 'events' in DBD aren't really events. They're just the Devs enabling some BP boosters, putting some cakes on the bloodweb and maybe if we're lucky getting a relatively low-effort cosmetic. Not necessarily saying they shouldn't do that, just saying BHVR build up a load of fuss and hype about something relatively basic and recycled.

  • Not sure on the exact radius of the sound, but it definitely shouldn't be audible from that far away.

My first thought is Iron Maiden, but that wouldn't make sense since you didn't mention getting exposed and she would be able to see your aura if Iron Maiden went off. Bit strange.

Potentially she could've just looked back at the gen she kicked after blinking away to check if any survivors went back on it - I sometimes do that if I think a survivor could've been in that area but I didn't have the time to properly check. Maybe she saw movement or thought she saw the gen being tapped and blinked back, but didn't know exactly where you were so opened the locker.

Without footage, it's a bit hard to tell, but maybe I'm just being stupid here and forgetting that a perk exists or something XD

  • @Mandy said:

I do think the word toxic in particular is over used in a lot of places...it's essentially meaningless at this point. I also don't see how using something that's in the game is considered "toxic" - it's perk, it's there to be used, it's a game mechanic, you can use it.

What I do see as "toxic" is rude behaviour in the aftergame chat - slurs, homophobic etc. That's the only thing I would consider as toxic.

100% agree. Toxicity is not the odd click of the flashlight, tbag or hit on the hook, it's direct harassment and hate. That's what real toxicity is. It's such an overused word by a lot of people in DBD.

  • Out of all of the well-established games that I've played, DBD is one of the most poorly optimized I've ever come across. It needs to be a top priority.

Bugs and optimization issues have built up over the years and the issues haven't been dealt with.

  • Deathslinger

The ones on the list, although strong, do at least have fun counterplay for the most part (ignoring top add on Stridor Spirit). Versing Deathslinger is just a game of luck and frustration every chase. Obviously he's not overpowered or anything, but I still find him incredibly boring.

  • That's weird. I would double-check the following:

    • Make sure you're doing it in the main menu (where you load in) - the code can only be inputted here.
    • Remember to press the Enter/Return key (depending on what you call it) after doing the code - without this, it won't go through.
    • I know you said you have it, but double check you have the DLC and haven't bought the characters using auric cells.

The code you referenced is correct and has no expiry, so I really hope the above helps you out, or I'm not too sure to be honest! Can't really think of much else that could be causing it.

  • Not saying gens are never an issue, but having to hold M1 for more than 80 seconds is definitely not the answer.

other times I just want to mess around with friends and have fun in SWF without a care in the world if I escape. Despite the flaws of old matchmaking, to it's credit, it did often allow people to do this.

You can still do that. If you truly don't care about escaping, then you won't care when you die.

There was at least variety in matches. For me at least, a perfect MMR system (not that it would even be possible) would be incredibly boring.

I'll take trials that are always at my skill level instead of trials that are either against people who are stupidly more (or less) skilled than I am. I don't like clubbing baby seals any more than I like being mauled by bears.

In response to your first point; yes, I don't care about dying and I don't mind not escaping every game, but it would be incredibly difficult to have fun and mess around a bit if every single game is challenging.

In response to your second point; I'm not saying I want to play against a poor rank 12 Bubba every other match to bully them to oblivion, but I want there to be some variation in skill. The same goes for playing killer. Sure, I love to have a challenge against a very good team here and there, but if that were every single game, I would not enjoy playing the game at all and would probably play a lot less than I do. Once again, I like challenges and I like comp play, but I don't play DBD to seek high-level play every single game.

  • @Orion said:

Because both sides would have to sweat their pants off to win

No, that's not how the MMR would work. In practice, a perfect MMR would place you against people who play like you do. If you play without regard for whether you win or lose, making a lot of mistakes because you're not really thinking about the most optimal plays, and so on, you'd be matched against people who do the same. If you play to win every single time, you'd be placed against people who do the same.

So yes, I do want a perfect MMR.

That's not the point though. People don't have some kind of singular way of playing. Sometimes I want to play at the high level against high level players, other times I just want to mess around with friends and have fun in SWF without a care in the world if I escape. Despite the flaws of old matchmaking, to it's credit, it did often allow people to do this. There was at least variety in matches. For me at least, a perfect MMR system (not that it would even be possible) would be incredibly boring.

  • It's true. If I want to sweat, I can play on crossplay off against comp players and sweat there. Obviously I like challenging games, but I play DBD mostly to have fun with friends. A perfect MMR system would kill the game for all players.

  • The superior platform, of course. XD

Jokes aside though, I'm incredibly grateful I can play on a decent PC, I couldn't imagine having to play DBD on a console. I don't think I'd ever get comfortable with movement on a controller.

  • @Jay_Whyask said:

I think Midwich might be the best map in the game.

I understand it's an indoor map with long hallways, but there's something very important that's constantly overlooked. The RNG is only applied to gen spawns, totems, hooks, and chests, but the pallet and window placement is consistent throughout multiple playthroughs.

The DBD team actually took the time to make a map without dead zones, without long stretches of safe pallets, they made a map that looks the same if you play it as survivor and then as killer.

They made something that's actually kinda fair. You won't get that on Gas Heaven.

I must admit I don't think I've ever heard someone say Midwich is best, but I respect your opinion.

I personally really dislike it pretty much no matter who I'm playing. Long hallways basically just make it a W-holding simulator and in my opinion the lack of access between the floors makes it frustrating to get around (unless you're playing Nurse or someone, in which case Midwich is actually not too bad).

I guess the RNG is a benefit, but for me the actual layout of the map is the most important thing, and for whatever reason I just don't particularly like the feel of it.

  • Without a doubt more health updates. Clean up bugs and optimization issues that have been around for ages and work on making DLCs even better, even if it means we get fewer. Currently, PTBs and DLCs always seem rushed and unfinished.

  • Impossible to say without context really. Depends on the killer, how many people are down there, if I'm healthy, where the basement is etc...

  • I like Empathy, but I feel like Bond is more useful considering you can see all survivors regardless of if they're injured or not. Even though it has a smaller range, it's still a pretty damn good range (36m), so does the same job as Empathy often. Not to mention it's more useful while looping, since you can be sure you're not leading the killer towards teammates working on gens.

  • I'm clearly very much in the minority here, but I actually like his power as it is. Fun to play and play against.

I'd much rather they invest time into things that really need the rework than putting time into reworking Myers. In other words, if it ain't broke, don't 'fix' it. Last time they tried to 'fix' a killer that wasn't broken, they ruined Billy and now no one plays him anymore.

That being said, I could get behind an add on pass for Myers. Some of his add ons are definitely a little outdated and could do with improvement. But I don't think a full-on power rework is necessary.

  • I would check your ping and download/upload speeds separately on a computer or mobile device using your internet to confirm if it's your internet provider or your PS4 that's causing the problem. (You can use a site like fast.com to do this, and then click 'More Info' to see your latency (ping)).

If your base internet connection using other devices is good, but your game connection is poor, it's most likely one of two things:

    • The connection between your PS4 and your router is poor, causing the higher ping and laggier connection.
    • You could simply be far away from the nearest DBD server.

If you're near to a DBD server, and it's definitely a problem that solely occurs on your PS4, then it sounds like a local problem, as mentioned above. For example, wireless connections generally have a higher latency and packet loss compared to a wired (ethernet) connection, so if you're using a wireless connection, this could be the potential source of the problem.

    Hope this helps :D

  • If you're using the same account, then yeah, I'm pretty certain it does. It definitely works PS4 -> PS5, so I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way, but maybe I'm wrong, so someone please correct me if so.

  • Insta-saw was the only unfun thing with old Billy. The rest was completely balanced and fun for both sides. His rework was a complete waste of time.

  • She can, yes (unless they have Iron Will).

Being able to track sounds such as moans and rustles in grass is an important skill to have when playing Spirit, so it's good idea to use some decent headphones. :)

  • In my opinion, a filter is a good idea, but only if it solely filters out genuinely offensive remarks, like highly offensive language and slurs etc...

In a mature rated game, I don't see the point in filtering out barely offensive/often completely harmless phrases. It just causes more problems than it solves. The system currently is far too over-sensitive, and major changes need to be made.

  • I think it would be great if there were servers there, despite not being from there.

I live in the UK and play on EU servers with around 30ms ping, and although it's generally quite rare, it's frustrating to play against players with very high ping, especially since hit validation isn't that great. It must be even more frustrating, however, for the players like yourself who don't have a local server at all and can never get good ping no matter what server they play on.

I can only assume the only reason there aren't already servers for the Middle East would either be a lack of demand making it uneconomical, or BHVR simply not being aware of the demand for them if the demand is there.

But yeah, that must be really annoying. Fingers crossed in the future the locations of servers will be reevaluated!
