god i a m so tired of seeing survivor with keys. They dont escape me because i put the sweat on and slug hard for pressure but still i want to enjoy the game not be beaten by an item lol hurry up and change them already. Im not sure if they are even actually going to be nerfed they mentioned a change but not nerf so lets see what happens.

Couldn't agree more. Cheap escape and makes me slug too. I'm a killer main but for what its worth I'd happily see moris go as well if it meant keys were gone. Will never happen though

Everyone has one. For me, its that deathslinger is op.

How entitled a lot of survivor mains are. If they don't win a game it can't be that they played badly or the killer played well nooooo they can't handle that so must be killer OP get nerfed ASAP

    Hello There,

I was a bit curious about something lately, it's how msot of the players discovered and learned to play Dead By Daylight, the game been a bit niche for a long time and it doesn't have the best tutorials to learn to new players, some don't understand it, some actually do really really well in it, no matter if killer or suvivor.

So i wanted to know how You, yes you reading this, discovered dead by daylight and how you learned to play it

As an exemple, i discovered the game because a friend showed it to me and got me to come play with him as survivors, i learned the basics with friends, yet the most advanced tips (and most of my killer tips) i got from youtube/Twitch videos !

What actually interests me the most is to know if most people actually discovered and learned the game through/with friends or all alone :)

(i would actually do a poll for this, but i have no ideas how, so uuuuh....too late we'll do with this)

A friend put me onto it knowing I love horror. We played as a 2 man swf (and having over reliance on him meant I didn't really improve). Playing solo and watching streamers (True at first then some others) transformed me from potatoe to rank 1

Just so more killers can see it, list one rule at a time in bold letters

    Ill start

    1) No Camping (Patrolling included)

    2) No Tunnelling

    3) No slugging

    4) No Ruin + Undying

    5) No Noed

    6) No Pop

    7) No BBQ

    8) Respect 4% Kobe

    9) 1 DC = free hatch escape at end

    10) If at the end hatch is closed and you find a survivor unlocking an exit gate, you must allow them to escape

    11) No OP killer (Nurse, spirit, freddy)

    12) No killer with no counterplay (Spirit, Freddy, Doctor)

    13) No killer who would want to make survivor DC (Doctor, Legion, Plague or Deathslinger)

I finaly got it... after a terrible game on lery with an addon that stops me from blinking to the other side of walls. and a rank 19 bill not letting go of the door switch (I didn't play for a while and my rank dropped ok? So I'm just trying to get some of the hard challenges done while I climb back up)

    according to my ps4, it's a 0.5% trophy. and yet bronze 🤷‍♀️

so... anyone has any interesting stories on this incredibly hard achievement? (I do mean the "incredibly hard" part, specially after the add-on changes)

Whats crazy is I was looking through my ps4 trophies saw that and as someone who doesn't play nurse thought (wow that must be such a difficult achievement). Congrats!!!

  • @Carlosylu said:

I thought queue times were fixed the day of the update, but yesterday it all went back, 10+ mins waiting as survivor and less than 1 min for killer.

As a Rank 1 killer and Rank 2 survivor I politely ask you NOT TO LOBBY DODGE, you need to learn to play against everyone, and don't come to me with your:

"WoUlDn'T yOu dOdGe A LoBbY whErE...?"

The answer is NO, I don't dodge lobbies, the only justifiable reasons to lobby dodge is Ping and knowing a guy in the game that you have played against and you know he is a toxic player or a DCer, any other reasons are just lame excuses...

In game DCing is another issue, don't get lost from the thread please... Not getting a good map, matchmaking problems and bugs are not part of this thread.

    Edit:

I'm not trying to force people not to dodge, I'm just politely asking for people to avoid as much as they can lobby dodging, people dodge out of the dumbest things nowdays like "I don't like facing Davids" or "Matchmaking is broken, if I see 2 toolboxes they must be red ranks". I'm not talking about in game DCing, but about actual lobby dodging, it's not wrong to dodge a lobby every now and then, but not 5/6 games until you get to play aginst no SWF Dwights with no items, hehehe. Get my point?

So when I saw what I presume to be a 4 man swf with 2 toolboxes, a map and a key I wasnt wasn't entitled to lobby dodge? As killer was my fun taken into consideration by them?

Gotta be honest I can't stand how fake most DbD streamers are. Zubat and OhTofu are alright though.

Zubat is amazing at playing DBD especially killer and I respect that. He's as good as anyone but I just find him to be bit boring as a streamer

  • Myers when you turn round and he's staring at you lol. After T2 and expecting him not as intimidating but that first time if you're doing a gen and he's just there...

    Myers is my favourite DBD killer concept in the whole game. Competitively balanced maybe not but he ticks all boxes for me;

    1) That first time you see him it 'oh damn'

    2) Looks intimidating with a jumpsuit and big knife/lead pipe (lead pipe in particular makes him look like a total maniac)

    3) Once exposed you're a potential insta down. His speed and vaulting increases.

    4) Playing against him I enjoy the mind games- is he stalking me? Get behind cover etc

    5) Jump scare myers imo is the most fun killer and build to play as and the most fun to play against- ok I'll probably not get many gens done as survivor but its A HORROR GAME!!! Its supposed to be scary/eerie. What's more eerie than being half scared to turn a corner incase he's watimg there for you?

Already uninstalled the game, honestly had more fun watching Otz videos than playing this dumpster fire

There will come a day when you don't get wound up by what survivors think. It won't be today but the day will come. My advice is; they're toxic survivors, they lost and toxic survivors can't handle that. So they will look to any excuse. Once you realise that DBD will become more enjoyable for you.

  • @Pulsar said:

People are always upset when they lose. There was this great Reddit post a while back on r/deadbydaylight and it talked about the psychology of the game.

In a nutshell, the reason people get so upset is because losing in this game is very humiliating because it feels good for the other side to humiliate each other. It's generally worse for Killer because Survivors usually have 3 others to back them up, but Killers have no one.

That being said, there are toxic POS on either side. I'd suggest turning off the chat, but I personally enjoy seeing people get so worked up over nothing. It's kinda funny.

This is actually very interesting and you're right about the balance because as survivor its a team effort so easier to blame whereas killer its just you.

Part of it as well is the sort of dbd cycle - there was a time I cared about what survivors thought about my performance, not anymore though. I think OP has yet to get to this stage.

  • I've chosen Truetalent. It was through watching him that I transformed from potatoe to rank 1. I respect the fact he uses every killer not just maining 1 or 2 and I find him entertaining to watch (especially the mind games). He gets a lot of hatred from a portion of the dbd community even though he avoids toxicity compared to other streamers. He's also not afraid to speak his mind about dbd balance which I know causes shock waves sometimes but I respect the fact he cares about the game and wants to make it more competitively viable.

Also shout to otz who puts a stupid amount of time into tutorials for new players. Respect for him too

I personally don't like running perks that I get pissed off about as killer like ds, unbreakable and dead hard. The same for when I play killer so no perks like noed, ruin and tinkerer. so no I never run dead unless I am running no mither and even then I still run other perks. Mainly because I don't care if I win or lose I just want everybody in that game to have fun.

Yes. Unlike DS (DS when being abused) it doesn't really annoy me when survivors use it

That depends. Some people get burnt out because of the rift. When they would have been happily playing the game at a much more casual pace if they weren't stressed out trying to finish it.

Suppose it depends on the person. I'm not bothered about cosmetics and charms so the need to complete has never been there for me. Its the BP that's valuable to me because I'm trying to get every killer max perked. It helps the BP grind but if you want all the cosmetics charms etc I can see why you'd burn out. I still think its better than before although as I said some challenges can promote bad play/toxicity

  • Its still better having the rift than not. I dont agree with all rift challenges some imo promote bad play/toxic behaviour but before the rift grinding BP was even harder. Its not perfect but its better than without

  • DS sometimes not unbreakable. I also run kindred

  • @tippy2k2 said:

A friendly reminder too that many survivors getting Kobe'd in their face after running halfway across the map to save you will let you die next hook out of complete spite...

Sligjtly off topic but still relevant i feel is deliverance. I understand the perk and everything and the best wait for killwr to actually move before using but its annoying when you go for a safe honest save and they unhook themselves. I suppose technically its inefficient because you're broken so can't be healed, whereas if you sacrificed a few BP I would have done both

I guess, yeah. Like I said, people are still often just as bad in chases on PC cross off, they just actually do gens when they're not in a chase. I've never figured out why so many console players do nothing at all or why doing the objective would be associated with skill. I don't understand what those players are hoping to accomplish. Do gens, heal, rescue, or be in a chase.

Ultimately just do something, hiding gets you nowhere

  • @Epsydra said:

Because that's how the game was designed. It's solo that I feel like a survivor. It's solo that the killer poses a threat. It is in solo that nothing is acquired, that everything can change from one second to another. It is in solo that I feel a certain pressure, a certain anguish. It's solo that being hurt or hung up scares me.

    Etc.

In SWF, the game loses all its charm. It's too easy. Everything is already calculated. There is no longer any stake. What's more, I hate facing killer SWF. I am not a hypocrite, so I avoid reproducing what I dislike to others.

I think this explains it perfectly. Plus (and I may get people disagreeing with this) imo solo is how to learn the game properly, being aware of your surroundings being a big one etc with swf i feel you don't always get that chance to learn fully- knowing where the killer is by someone telling you instead of yourself etc

I never called anyone ignorant. These threads are just a regular occurrence, and while the actual list of stages isn't the most accurate (maybe I should've looked at the stages of acceptance, oops), the sentiment is true. My over-the-top comment was a reply to a previous humorous comment about the pointlessness of this thread, which is true, it is pointless, but it's a result of that "eureka!" moment and is seen a lot amongst players.

I do not share the OP's feelings that face-camping teabaggers is the way to go. Teabaggers want the killer to tunnel them, they want the attention. I ignore them, and they hate it. If/when they get hooked, I treat them like everyone else. I really don't think OP is interested in how other people handle survivors, though.

I've posted plenty of serious comments about improving DbD, but this thread isn't about changing the game. This is the kind of thread where people post silly comments and let off steam.

    Step 1: Uninstall the game.

Steps 2-7: Doesn't matter, none of us ever get past step 1.

He's on phase 2. Every killer goes through it.

    1. Care what survivors think.
    2. Survivors are mean! Fight back!
    3. Don't care what survivors think at all.
    4. Play for Bloodpoints.
    5. Wait, why am I still playing?
    6. I'm going to quit tomorrow, I swear it.
    7. None of this actually matters.

When everyone reaches step 7 so the game is nothing but screwing around and all forms of giving a crap disappear because people realize how pointless it really is, we'll all ascend to nirvana and experience true bliss for eternity.

    Or something.

But seriously, every player seems to go through stages, and each time it's like "wow, I'm enlightened! I must tell the world!" Hey man, welcome to stage ___, let me check my watch to see when your next insight will hit.

You should also make a 7 step DBD rehab programme

I’m not comparing a match. I said plenty of times, as well as other experience this often. It would be a force of motion and I don’t like rushing the end. It would take away the option of playing how we want in the end. Ik 99ing the gates takes away how you want the end to play but that’s where the game clashes. The way it is, you had your chance in the beginning now it’s survivors turn to rein. If it’s a must have, it needs to be in the form of a perk

Good point but it shouldn't have to be a perk. Gens regress so why not the gate?

  • @Karao_Ke said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1909261#Comment_1909261

Slugging at the beginning of the match isn't necessary & just causes frustration. Everyone usually de-pips and the game ends before it ever even started.

Slugging at the end of the match is a method for winning (3 - 4 still alive) or for nobody getting hatch (2 still alive). I've turned many games around because I slugged at the end.

This Reason exactly. Plus some games you get stupidly altruistic survivors saving when inappropriate and ends up slugging inadvertently. Also when survivors Sabotage hooks they're also influencing the killer to slug

  • Is it slugging at the beginning or end of the match?

That's the sort of build I detest when playing killer lol never tried breakout is it meme-y or is it efficient?

    The solo survivor experience;

    Kindred

    Bond

    Dead Hard

    Windows/DS

Kindred imo is the most valuable solo survivor perk in the game.

Bond is just so good on solo, knowing where your team is, if the TR goes off but somone is running back and forth means they're getting chased most likely so you can finish the gen etc

Dead Hard is Dead Hard enough said

The last 4 matches I've had tonight, I've realized that way too many people are not prioritizing gens. I don't know what they're doing but it aint gens lol. It happens often but tonight's been real bad, at least for me.

    Last 4 matches I did

3 gens (almost 4), 3 gens, 4 gens, and then just now I had a Meat Plant match with Bubba and I did 4 gens, with the 5th being almost done (80%) but killer showed up.

Stop dive bombing hooks, stop trying to be a hero, make the most use out of the time people have been on hook. Esp if you know the Bubba/killer is proxy camping. Everyone ended up dying on that last match except for me, luckily I found hatch 30 seconds before Bubba found me and I had to loop him once but I got to it.

You're playing right into the killer's game plan. I know solo que is rough but damn. This is like when you're the one who has gotten the only 2 gens done, you get hooked, and you see your mates just running around/crouch walking in stealth. You should always be doing something that benefits your team. Dive bombing hooks, running around hooked survivors while in a chase, getting downed near hooked survivors cause you failed a chase, etc is the opposite of that.

Please, its so frustrating to see players at red ranks, purple ranks playing like greys and just doing the stupidest things.

    Thanks.

    /rant

Couldn't agree more. Too many players not deserving of being red rank

  • @[Deleted User] said:

It's getting really ridiculous and I'm not sure what the solution is. Can't say I've really played a game where there was straight up a bad player problem. I turned crossplay off and noticed a huge difference in game speed, probably because every other frustrated red rank PC player also turned crossplay off which moved all the sweat survivors like me into that queue. Chases often the same, gens flying anyway.

Make it harder to rank up? Too many potatoes in purple/red. Red is supposed to be the cream of the crop so you'd expect them to be efficient. Too many non red rank players that can't loop etc at that rank

  • @hostilebuccanneer said:

Couldn't agree more I was exactly the same. Tbh on an absolute beginner who's playing dbd for the first time sprint burst is a bad perk because they'll not get the proper use out of it. I didn't for a while

Would SC, Botany, deliverance, and secondwind be good and better then that but instead of second wind dead hard

No need for both SC and second wind imo so dropping second wind for Dead Hard is a good shout. I suppose I'd ask are you solo or swf and are you looking to rank up? If solo, I find kindred an invaluable perk over Deliverance - unlikely to be left on hook unless camped but also knowing the direction tbe killer is going when someone else is hooked is immense as well. I also love bond of solo, it'll annoy you at times the incompetence of some survivors but gives you so much info

Depends what you're going for as well. I play solo sk my build is along the lines of Kindred, Dead Hard, Bond and either windows or DS (DS if after a few games of being hard tunnelled).

I’ve been playing DBD since June of last year. Why you asking?

Could determine what perks be recommended. For example for clown STBFL is sensational but for someone new not getting many hits learning anti-looping is more important so perks like brutal etc would be more suitable.

To answer you're question, I'm not sure about rancor only because clown hasn't got best mobility and can't always capitalise on it plus you're also showing a survivor (and all at the end) your aura - but that's just my opinion. Devour is interesting, do you have something to pair it with? Haunted maybe? For a player of your level I strongly suggest STBFL

  • How experienced are you with all killers/M1 killers?

  • @DangerScouse said:

Also. If I may offer a comment without being insulted....

I see a lot of comment about struggling on the hook, ir running Kindred to "punish" the killer.

I have news. It doesn't. The camping killer doesn't care if you know he's camping. He knows he's not getting 4k. He wants an easy kill. And they don't care if you struggle fully or give up.

Only thing to add is struggling on the hook makes you have to camp longer, so if a survivor kills themselves then gives the killer more time to find other survivors (and other survibors to do objective) but you're right if the mindset is ' I want a kill' then thats what will happen.

If they switch last second in my game, I make sure that the person with the key does not get the hatch.

I will even slugg that person if there are 2 left then down the other one, hook the pers with the key and give the last one the hatch.

And the hatemail will flood my inbox from the key person 😂

I'm exactly the same lmao I hate keys with a passion, they can reduce game time drastically but they can also kill late game tactics which is pretty unfair (i also feel the same about moris, I'd happily remove them both) I don't lobby dodge keys but try a sneaky key change on me and my sole aim is for you to die

  • @Mikeasaurus said:

Because most killers will just up and dodge when they see a survivor holding a key and if they don't dodge, then they can bring Franklins. Doing a switch at the last second stops the killer having enough time to equip Franklins to defend against it, and it's pretty much going into the loading screen at that point.

Agree, problem is the side effect - do this to me and your a tunnel magnet.

You do not get them while on hook. You only get the 300 BP, that isnt even enough for a crappy brown fog offering,

It would be an idea then. Reduce chance of depip. But I suppose it depends what you want I think this would be a good idea regardless but if you don't care about rank then I'm not sure. They could increase BP but again would ot be worth it for that alone? Personally I do it to punish the camping killer and thats enough but ots frustrating when no gens get done or survivors become stupidly altruistic and try and rescue without bt and we both get downed

  • @Marigoria said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1907687#Comment_1907687

Actually the thread was why should I not suicide on hook if my team mates are being useless? I'm not staying on hook just so others can do gens and maybe escape.

Again, read the thread. I'm tired of saying the same thing over and over again because people refuse to use their brain and reading comprehension

I get your point entirely, we do it tk punish the camping killer but your right all you get is a de pip and a few 'struggle points not even worth speaking of. To answer your question I'm not sure how to fix this, I know you get emblem points for being in chase while gens are done but do you get them while hooked? If not implement this to make black pipping more likely or increase emblem gain if this exists so maybe you get more? Still depends on other survivors doing gens though.

  • @DangerScouse said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1907662#Comment_1907662

Or.. killers do it because it is an easy kill. Survivors telling killers "you must work harder for your kill because I say so" is a bit of a nonsense really.

I suppose then it comes down to what the killer wants out the game. At red ranks (usually) being face camped on hook + kindred = 1 kill (2 at most) for the killer because the other survivors rushed gens. Killer won't pip due to proximity plus he did nothing else all game because he was busy camping me. If the killer wants ' a kill yeah it will work mostly but I agree with you as well, negative comments from survivors can get to you. It is nonsense. If the other 3 survivors are efficient the gens will fly while I'm on hook.

  • @DangerScouse said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1907611#Comment_1907611

What does the skill level of camping have to do with the validity of someone to do it. Nothing.

I Think actually it does, new players do it because they don't know better or think its an effective tactic, toxic players do it for toxic purposes or else players who really want a kill do it (often late game especially egc). We can agree to disagree but I think a players skill level does come in to it

  • @DangerScouse said:

No. You de pip cause you got caught.

Also, survivors need to stop telling killers how they should play a game. We can't moan that killers spoil our fun, when we revel in spoiling the killers fun.

Take your loss, grow up, and move on. It's only a game.

It literally takes no skill whatsoever to camp a player to death on one hook and this is coming from a killer main. Plus its not the point OP was making. I detest camping which is why although de pip annoys me it gives me great pleasure knowing the killer is wasting his time since I have kindred (assuming the other survivors play efficiency of course)

  • @Marigoria said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1907520#Comment_1907520

I always run kindred on all my builds, and you'd be surprised (or probably not) how many still dont do gens and just crouch near the hook just looking at the killer facecamping me.

I'm not surprised tbh and its worse with insta down killers especially cannibals who feed off this playstyle. Its such inoptimal play as well

  • @Marigoria said:

Ok, but what if I'm the one on the hook? "Just struggle", yea, but I will still depip and only get very few bloodpoints. So how is that a strategy for me whatsoever? I feel like people who give that kind of advice aren't the ones sitting on the hook with a killer looking at them. It's easy to say "just do gens" or "waste the killers time" when you can actually play the game.

I shouldn't depip because I killer decided to stare at me on the hook and make me die on my first. The killer is still getting more BP for facecamping than I am for hanging on there for whatever how long.

Its rubbish I know , its why I run kindred in most builds to punish the campers. Only consolation i get is the killer getting 1 kill (me) in exchange for losing the game. But your right depipping because of a camper isn't nice

  • Its a great map for the majority of killers. I've noticed it as well and I'm unsure why survivors use the offerings

  • @Iosefka said:

Anyone can play spirit and 4K easily. She can know exactly where you are at all times if you are injured and there is no counterplay for survivors.

Yes there is counterplay, too many survivors are entitled and think that they should escape every single trial and if they don't its not that the killer played well or the survivor didn't play well its 'oh x killer is OP and needs a nerf'. And yes it does take skill to play her, sounds like you only survivor main with a comment like that

  • I think Wraith is very underrated if played properly. I'm rank 2 as well, Wraith, Pig and Freddy. Well you're more than experienced with M1 gameplay then so I think you should consider hit and run something along the lines of;

    1) Nurse's (Non negotiable when you get it)

    2) Sloppy Butcher (Non negotiable)

    3) BBQ ( or Thana to be really evil although it no longer applies to healing)

    4) Pop/Ruin (As I said you can make good use of either depending on RNG for ruin it can make the game)

I've seen this on a couple of threads now: What's the one thing you wish you had known when you were a new player - that one tip that would help you immensely in game?

For me, when playing killer, I wish I had known that the survivors could see your red stain (it took me a while to figure this out).

I Actually lol'd at this because that was exactly the same as me the red stain!!!

    Killer-

    1) You DON'T have to commit to every chase if the survivor is in a strong position, just because you 'found someone' because they can waste so much time (and its definitely harder to find survivors when first playing, I'll play killer and a pal who doesn't play will watch me ans he can't believe how good i am at spotting survivors- experience). Commit to one chase all game and its GG.

    2) Time Time Time Time TIME!!! Be efficient, if there's a survivor scared and hiding all game fine they're not doing gens - pressure the others doing objectives. Can't tell you how long it took me to realise that.

    3) To play M1 killers first and learn the basics of anti-looping.

    4) Camping (which let's all be honest we all did in the first few games) especially at the start is inefficient. As long as the survivors have a brain you'll be there for 2 minutes watching the gens fly or other survivors will body block their way to the save.

    5) Turn to a wall if possible or look away to stop flashlight saves. Again took a while for me to learn that one

    6) Get BBQ ASAP - BP at beginning is invaluable but also promotes anti-camp so for beginners a solid good reward

    7) SWF exist and they WILL outplay you when you start as killer. Don't be disheartened or rage persevere. Everyone has to start somewhere and with increased experience you'll get better at dealing with them.

    8) As killer you are faster (nurse aside) but physics exist in the game - hugging loops is efficient whereas slopping loop movement can negate your speed advantage. Kinda common sense but took me a while to master

    9) When selecting perks for killers with special attack (Cannibal, Billy etc) keep a close eye to make sure its not basic attack only (sloppy butcher for example) potentially wasted perk slot.

    10) Watching the best play makes you better. You have to learn the absolute basics but seeing how some of the most popular twitch, YouTube etc streamers play will undoubtedly make you stronger. I cant tell you how many tips I picked up this way from the red glow as @MandyTalk mentioned to determining of loops are safe or not etc. Learn from the best.

    11) To be a truly efficient killer (or survivor) you really have to play both killer and survivor. Focusing only on one only gets you so far.

You asked for 1 but here's a wee list. Happy reading lol

Enduring on Wraith is almost a must-have for me. When Wraith is stunned with a pallet while cloaked, his period of stun is longer than uncloaked. This cuts it by half and allows you to be aggressive with pallets while cloaked.

This is a good point if you're new to Wraith. Important question for @CANxOFxCORN is do you have experience with other M1 killers? If not then enduring might be especially good for you. Depends on how you intend to play, if standard then enduring is a great shout (and spirit fury, amazing synergy for M1 killers). If hit and run probably not since the idea is to injure all then pick off with stealth and nurses rather than chase.

  • Nurse's is massive on wraith, with a 0 TR while cloaked being able to sneak up is amazing. And I know you can see the Wraiths distortion movement but a lot of the time they'll heal behind walls/ loops to keep themselves hidden from you

As @Momentosis mentioned, Sloppy has amazing synergy with nurse's. Slows down healing and also since Wraith is only an M1 killer Sloppy will always be in effect when survivors are injured.

I prefer pop over ruin purely due to the Wraith having high mobility when cloaked, so can make good use out of pop. Ruin is a gamble because it can be quickly cleansed and if going for ruin you need to be pressuring people off gens so a hit and run Wraith playstyle would probably be effective here.

BBQ is solid choice again due to Wraiths good mobility he can make use of it. I love Discordance on him, especially for early game although finding people usually isn't too much of a problem. And also i find Surveillance to be an interesting choice, something more unexpected and can be invaluable late game
