Do the developers of this game only play survivors? Or are you really bad at playing killer? How do you guys strike this balance? The ranking system forces the killer to achieve all kills while the survivors yawn and win.
They don't really have a clue they only see the£££. My advice from a long timer is to accept that if you want to enjoy the game. Forget balance or logic - your cash is more important. Make your own win condition and don't get frustrated by the hockey-like chaos of BHVR. Don't burnout like me. Should it be better? Yes. Will they listen? No. Your ideas are 'interesting ' let's say. Very poor bait attempt- if you're going to try fishing here you'll need to put more effort in and put some more imagination into it (this is 2/10 at best). But it matters not. Because me disagreeing is irrelevant. Only the £££ that BHVR earns

Because they know the vast majority of casuals would never play 1v4 again, which is the mode they spent years working on to "balance" and this would damage their pride that most players prefer the chaotic fun party mode of the game instead of the boring frustration of 1v4.
BHVR will do whatever makes them £££. Simple as. Your gameplay experience and enjoyment is of secondary importance. Nor are they fussed about what the community thinks/wants since overall they have a poor understanding of their own game - chaotic at times much like a game of hockey

I was talking with a friend about the ''old'' Coldwind Farm maps. We both hate the light coldwind update and when I saw The Realm Beyond again I really miss the previous Coldwinds.
Here's the video in case you didn't play on the ''old'' Coldwinds:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wjd3kOdepAA&list=PLMCoq7Q9V5b0dmAB2AJLqOsi7VsM4Rgtm&index=5
Does anyone else feel like the previous Coldwind maps matched better with the theme of the game? I mean a horror game at daytime? I just really want BHVR to make coldwind dark again. It's too bright in my opinion.
I would love to see other opinions about this.😊
I've said this a lot, aesthetically it looks good but the daytime completely ruins the horror aspect. Looks like a midday rundown farm currently

I see errors like that in television from time to time as well and while it may seem unprofessional you have to take into account the timeframe. If there are no proofreaders that is why it happens.
I fully understand where you're coming from and if it's say a news channel reporting live on a tight time frame then mistakes can and will happen.
That having been said, the post was long so a great deal of time was obviously taken. Also it wasn't just one or two mistakes - if someone corrected it with a red pen then there would be no ink left.
They clearly had time and I would suggest they employ a proof reader or or at least properly read through their draft copies. They come across as unprofessional and rambling.

No, they know it and are already working on a good fix which comes anytime soon.
And of course it will be a superior one. Simply having a permantent 2x bp bonus for matches or reducing the web costs (which would work immediately) would destroy the games ecosystem...
Working on it soon is simply too vague and BHVR have a track record of taking ages. Forgive me for not taking their word on it

No one is saying they should all work weekends but most business are able to manager people working on weekends. Like the person who works on the weekend gets days off during the week. But I do agree. It's not life and death. No one will die over this.
To follow your point up what it does show is a lack of organisation, the type we have come to expect. As someone said previously the game is too big now for this level of disorganisation. And you're right its not life and death in the literal sense but from a business perspective possibly. More bad press for BHVR at a time when they need some good headlines

Probably not. BHVR are in hibernation mode just now. Hardly replying to anything at all. The devs are like an endangered species just now

Ok, i have to ask. do you have anny proof that this game causes more issues with epilepsy than other games? Do you have numbers to proof that, or did you just make that up? Since you says its objectively, there should be some proof, shouldn´t it?
I'm not OP but to answer you're question; probably not. However it's easy to understand how it can happen.
What winds me up about it is that it serves no purpose in the game the macro flashlighting; it's purely for trolling. If it was an integral part of the game that caused seizures then I could see the potential dilemma but the fact is it's not. Something used for trolling that's gone on for years and easy to fix is causing this. BHVR as usual consumed by silence

Cute, but that's not how you verify a claim, but it is how you make the fallacy of incomplete evidence or cherry picking fallacy.
How do we verify claims, research, and if data dont exist, we do a proper study. Good luck with that.
Steam playerbase is the data, it does exist

I can understand being asked to verify ones claims, can seem like not wanting to discuss. But it IS in fact the first step before discussion.
My verification is simply its the facts available to us, as previously stated a high sample size play on steam therefore the point is valid. Claims verified, over to you to discuss

i don't know about them being a minority (flashlight clickers I mean, not macro users) you get on average one of them every game, and everyone who plays killer can testify to this.
regardless of planning process, this has been going on for years and it could be fixed in a day for a pretty drastic quality of life improvement.
therefore I can only assume that they condone this behavior and just want the game experience to be as miserable as possible.
You're right, this is hardly a new issue
-
@cordonrouge said:
what's is it? I know they reply on here. but they don't actually say anything useful.
why does flashlight not have a cooldown of at least 0.10 seconds to avoid macro? or a similar value that would make no difference to human reaction speed.
better yet, why not make the flashlight break if clicked 3-4 times under a very short amount of time? imagine how healthier the game would be without toxic survivors clicking.
it literally takes one programmer a couple of hours to do this btw.
I'm genuinely curious what your excuse is. I refuse to believe you're this incompetent, at this point I 100% believe that you're just in bad faith because you know toxic survivors give you the most money.
i would be very happy to be proven wrong.

Thank you, I thought I was losing my mind reading some of these comments. 100% agreed. This does not require a PhD in mathematics to understand. Couple points I wanted to piggyback onto your post:
1.) If someone thinks that steam player numbers are going to vary significantly from other platforms, they need to provide a reason for that discrepancy. Obviously it's not going to be a 1 to 1 comparison but in the absence of a good reason, it's very fair to assume that it'll be pretty damn close to a 1 to 1 comparison. If anyone disagrees - please explain why steam numbers would vary dramatically from other platforms
3.) The counterargument to this sounds like an "agnostic" argument. Since the steam numbers aren't 100% accurate, they are completely untrustworthy, and because we can't have a perfect 100% accurate study, we will therefore never know if the player numbers are dropping or not.
A 42% drop is huge. Even if the steam numbers weren't very accurate (let's say in the range of +/- 15%, which they are almost assuredly NOT that inaccurate), that would still indicate a very large drop off in the playerbase. Does anyone REALLY believe that the steam numbers are off by +/- 50%? That would be an absolutely ludricrous claim to make without evidence
Completely agree with all the above, in conclusion Steam stats don't offer a full proof 100% fact but in essence an extremely strong and in my opinion indisputable fact that the numbers and down (and significantly so)

No, I dont want you to waste your time with a poll, I said you could If you wanted too. But it would be a waste of time because BHVR already has access to much better data and they are taking decisions now which will take time to develop. These threads are a waste of our time cause they only indicate gripes that people have with the game, which I would be very surprised BHVR didn't already know the lot of.
I have had these sorts of discussions with people here, twitter, discord etc now many times. I cant be asked to write more about it.
Come back to me when you stop making assumptions and have some data to back your beliefs, instead of relying on 'number go down bad'
I tried to make a proper discussion but as @StarLost said 'you're just arguing for the sake of arguing'.
Plus you've made a pretty heavy assumption in that BHVR have better data (which i don't doubt) but that they are competently trying to improve the game (which I do doubt).
You said you've had discussions on twitter etc, from what I've seen here you're not interested in discussing.
At no point did I say 'number go down go bad'

😁 Have you tried? You know until you try. 😂
So what me setting up a poll and asking people (maybe what 20-50 people at tops will reply) is more accurate than the steam data? OK so let's have an honest discussion;
1) You're right in that Steam isn't the be all and end all; it's only one platform therefore doesn't give a full 100% accurate representation of the playerbase in it's entirety. However it is fair to say it's a reasonable sample size (I don't know what % of the entire playerbase are steam but I think we can all agree it is a big enough sample size to give us at least an indication of the game.
2) From the Steam data available, on July 2021 the average playerbase was 62,487. On February 2022 it was 36,207. Steam doesn't represent the playerbase in it's entirety but can we all not agree that is one heck of a steep decline??? A decline of 42.05% of the steam playerbase. Thats not to say the there are a total of 42.05% less people playing DBD but surely anyone can agree its pretty telling.
3) This data isn't assumption it's accurate. As stated above I'm not saying that this is the DBD playerbase in its entirety and we don't know the exact % of the playerbase that is on steam but surely this portrays an accurate representation of the state of the game? The steam data shows a steep decline, I will make the assumption that this playerbase on steam is a large enough sample size to portray accuracy therefore based on the available data I will therefore make the conclusion that DBD is in it's current state in decline
-
@Emeal said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2846527#Comment_2846527
So instead of giving up on a poor data, you want to engage in a fallacy and declare it ' therefore all we have to go on. '
I also heard a girl on twitter describe it as 'the best available data', heard it before been there.
But also you are wrong, You can start your own poll and seek out the community, its up to you to make a good study tho.
You are absolutely having a laugh 🤣 😂 😆 You think getting data here as part of a poll is better than the steam data??? Come on
-
@Emeal said:
I wanna ask how you know playerbase is falling/ not increasing, but If you say Steam charts, im gonna dip on that conversation, because Im so tired of explaining why basing your opinion on a fraction of platforms used, using average CONCURRENT player count. Whereas if you want to know the size of the active playing community, you'll want the Daily Active Users / Weekly Active Users. But Im pretty sure its Steamcharts, cause its the only one people keep bringing up.
Can't check anything else therefore all we have to go on. It shows DBD is hemorrhaging players

The recent action taken against Dowsey reflects poorly on BHVR as a company, I agree with him that this seems like they’ve taken a stance against criticism.
I firmly believe that the devs need to be treated with a degree of respect and that many people dehumanize them due to their frustration with the game, but there’s a very large difference between that and making a joke. Patrick said something that was a little tone deaf and the community responded to it, removing cosmetics for legitimate criticism is a step too far and reflects very poorly on the company as a whole. This is a terrible PR decision that will absolutely make people question their support of this game and the team behind it.
Completely agree, censorship of opinion

Being annoying to play against doesn't constitute the need for a nerf. Nerfs should be used to balance elements of the game that are overpowered. If you removed the crouch element then her traps are pointless. She has so many counters that she really doesn't need a nerf

Hey Pulsar. sorry to hear that, but I have to question you on your story.
Its clear that the game was not really made for survivors of your caliber, so why dont you just play when more survivors like you are playing?
I can't speak for pulsar (and I get this wasn't directed at me so sorry!) but I work Monday- Friday 8-6 and pretty stressful. By the time I come home, have dinner and walk the dog (and assuming I've not made other plans) I have 1 hour to play dbd, 2 hours tops. I like many others don't have the luxury of playing during 'easier' or 'harder times. It's a good point you made but I think the fact we're even discussing it shows how inconsistent matchmaking is. The only real mystery to all this is why i play dbd to de-stress 😄 🤣 😂
-
@Laluzi said:
I care more about the MMR because it dictates what my experience playing the game will be. If it's too low, I'll be massacring confused newbies, or getting massacred by confused newbies that crouch in the corners of the map all game. If it's too high, I'll be constantly wrangling with Haddonfield/Badham/The Game sweat squads and I'll be stuck with Nurse/Blight Simulator every survivor match.
Getting BP once a month is nice, but I'd rather have a good experience the rest of the month, you know?
Fully agree
-
@CrashMADDS13 said:
I'm sure they understand skill. The issue is they need a simple way of calculating MMR. The system works great in guessing the outcome of matches with the parameters it measures, but it needs more players to make those correct matches reasonably fast, otherwise it makes lesser quality matches for the sake of que time.
The issue is a player base shortage.
I genuinely don't think that they do understand skill, they have a very black and white outlook on it. And I do get that there needs to be a win condition but there's too many parameters not being considered
-
@illusion said:

Yes, entirely too long, and it still misses the point. It has nothing to do with people wanting to be in higher ranks they don't belong in, it's about not being punished because you didn't "win". For survivors, when you "lose" you will get matched with worse survivor teammates in your next match which can lead to a snowball effect of losses. Unfortunately, the game has a severe lack of new and casual killers, so you often don't get easier killers, just worse teammates.
Also, the system makes survivors play far more selfishly, because now it is all about escaping. It's no longer a 4 v 1 it is just a bunch of individuals, many of whom will throw you under the bus the first chance they get if it benefits them. We have gone from survivors that were overly altruistic to players letting their teammates die on their first hook because they don't want to risk going for a rescue, and they want to focus on the gen rush. Selfish gameplay is rewarded, not skill.
It also forces killers to play a certain way, by only going for kills. It encourages face-camping and tunneling, and i think everyone knows how much survivors enjoy that. It should be obvious to anyone that a killer that gets 8 hooks and 2 kills if a much more skilled player than a face-camping Bubba that gets 3 hooks and 3 kills, but the Face-camping playstyle is what is rewarded.
This, in addition to the already glaring balance issues, makes the game far less fun for a lot of people and is making it even more of a niche game than it already was. It will continue to lose players, and that is not good for any multiplayer game. But, by all means, keep defending it.
I also agree with the points you've raised
-

I find it perplexing that people take issue with the idea that the system does not rate people fairly based on skills, not only because it ultimately doesn't have to
There's only so many matches with a 20 hour Meg that I can take.
The Devs actually admitted that it basically just tosses people in whatever match it can find due to queue times. My average Survivor queue is 7 minutes. My average Killer queue is instant.
The issue is that not only does MMR have nothing to do with actual skill in DBD (likely because of it's asymmetrical and RNG-heavy nature) but that it can't work until the queue times even out. Even if it were a perfectly functioning system, nobody wants to wait in a queue for 30 minutes.
You can type another essay, but for literally everyone that I've spoken to on Xbox, not one single person has said the game was more fun after MMR.
I fully agree

Scott isn't the only streamer that found those comments troubling. Many others have posted videos on the subject. For those of us that watched the Q&A it was already disturbing, so it is good to see some of the most popular streamers putting it out there for those that didn't see it.
The worst part about it was how arrogant he came across while making that stupid, and completely off base, sports analogy. It's almost like he doesn't understand hockey either, and that some players have far more skill than others regardless of how the rest of the team plays.
You're spot on, various streamers have discussed them and love them or hate them as I said, they make very valid points.
I also thought he came across as very arrogant. So out of touch with the player base and that hockey analogy was one of the stupidest comparisons I've ever heard.
Scott, Otz and Tru3 have all said they'll be playing other games when released (Elder Scrolls). And again love them or hate them, its never good to see top streamers leave the game (all be it temporarily potentially). Says a lot for the state of the game. Not that BHVR care. They're lucky they have no other real competition because the game is in a horrible way and this just further exemplifies the lack of awareness and understanding of BHVR
