  • People are going to say that the devs are catering to one side or another. If they nerf certain survivor perks, then they're catering to bad killers. If they nerf killer perks, then they're catering to bad survivors. I like this game too much to bother quitting now. Will games be more frustrating? Maybe

  • I don't always want a 3k+ match. My problem stems from the fact SWF can easily bully, especially if they're good. What you don't seem to understand is killers get punished for some of these SWF and the match making system. When I was new to the game soon as I reached yellow ranks as killer, I'm going against red, purples with their brown ranked friends. Killers have very little control, and that's a bit evident with the ruin changes. "Think of the new players." Yes, the match making screws them, but it's mainly due to the fact they want to SWF with their higher ranked friends.

YOU don't have control as a killer. It's if a survivor makes a mistake then you can punish them for it. If they fail to loop properly, you get to punish them for it. But you get punished more often as a killer than you do survivor. Yes, I agree that there should be some safe pallets and loops, but when you can't even mind game at them then it's pointless. You have to move on and let them abuse poor map designs.

While playing a game as a survivor, I ran into a 3 stack SWF who were purposely playing bad to derank so they could bully lower rank killers. So, some killers will derank so they can do the same thing. This comes down to toxicity in the community. But if I play well, that makes me a sweaty try hard killer. If I just play for fun, then I'm just a bad killer.

So really, this game is leaning towards survivors. I love playing killer, but sometimes it's disheartening. And please, don't say "they nerfed self care." You know why they did it? Literally healing faster than a killer can hit you. You messed up at a loop so the killer gets punished for it. Least that they changed.

You've gotta agree that it sounds like ASMR at 8 stacks

HAH. It really does to be honest. I like using it due to the sheer fact loops end faster with freddy. So why not take advantage of it

  • I use it on freddy. I'm not even going to lie

    Brand new parts are #########.

They are NOTHING compared to what they used to be. Im so sick and tired of killers saying "well they brought in brand new parts" well guess what, by the time they get that (IF THEY GET BOTH SKILL CHECKS) and then you have ruin and they can't hit the great..THEY JUST USED A BRAND NEW PART FOR NOTHING.

Sooooo sick and tired of it..If yall wanna keep bitching about it DEVS PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD BRAND NEW PART!! then that would be something to ######### about...insta gen as soon as game starts...YES PLEASE!!!!

Let's be honest though, the new ruin if they do install brand new parts and you push them off of it, kind of counters it a lot better than old ruin

  • Honestly, this sounds fun and all. But I normally like to play Plague anyways. And it's usually kind of meme builds at times.

I'm not going to sweat too much over the ruin changes. Maybe survivors won't find it right away and it'll be more fun for me so I don't have to constantly worry 24/7 about it

  • Not going to lie, I really don't care about my rank. I don't like red ranks, I prefer high green/mid purple. Why? Because I can use weird meme builds. I run into some survivors using meme builds and then we just kind of mess around.

I'd probably care more if there was an actual leader board. Saying how well x player does as x killer. Why? Because then that actually feels like something. You could be an amazing killer or survivor but probably wouldn't get a whole lot of recognition if you're not a well known youtuber or streamer

Watched them too when i was trying to learn nore about the game. It was kind of crazy.

I play around 50/50 but i started as a killer so try as i might I know i am still somewhat killer sided. Mainly because I know what killers get pit through.

The nerfs to exhaustion perks, self care, +10 seconds to overall gen repair time. It seems like these were needed to make killer viable in the game. The alternative would have been to buff killer to insane levels.

Mettle of man was broken on release, most survivors will agree to that i believe.

And yes balanced landing got more of a sideways nerf then anything. No other exhaustion perk had continuous effects. It makes sense to me.

Well, I feel the reason most of the survivor perks got nerfed was due to how easily they could abuse them. Killers and killer perk nerfs come down to how much they're used and how fun or un-fun they can be to play against. Not sure if I 100% with ruin change, kind of wish they would remove it as a totem perk. But who knows, maybe they'll come out with a more balanced perk that was kind of like old ruin. I just want to see more balanced maps to both sides instead of being one sided to either killer or survivor

  • Yes, both of them are listed in the PTB.

  • It should be coming out on the next patch. It's out on the PTB, I'll have to replay her to see if I can feel a difference on her

I started the game last year as well. But I think it's funny how survivors bring up "look at how self care was nerfed." Well, yeah because it really needed to be nerfed. Imagine trying to down someone who could heal themselves in about 2.4ish seconds.

No, that was legit what self care used to be like with botany knowledge and we'll make it.

Here's what I hate about new Ruin, it makes the strongest killers even better but hurts the weakest of the bunch. Freddy/Billy mains literally could care less that ruin is nerfed since they simply didn't need it to help mitigate any lack of early game pressure and since they can pressure people off gens so easy they get much more use of it than the killers I'm about to name., Bubba, Legion, and Clown on the other hand will by far suffer the most from this seeing as they have no mobility tools to speak of and their chase potential isn't even all that or only helps during chase and doing nothing else.

Unfortunately, even with current ruin they still suffer. Hopefully they'll rework them to make them better to accommodate for being weaker/slower killers. New doctor is pretty nice and he was one of the weaker killers. I know a lot of people claimed this to be a nerf but I see it more as a buff. And I'm sure Clown is going to be the next one they look at.

The idea isn't terrible. It's just not good enough to be a hex perk anymore. It doesn't have the reward to go along with the risk, especially at better ranks.

BESIDES...It's not the change to ruin killers are upset about. It's the fact that with some killers on larger maps, applying gen pressure without it is nigh impossible. The hex skillchecks, the one thing that slowed down the progression of the gens, even if just for the first 30 seconds, was actually crucial for killers like Trapper or Myers (non mobile killers). Killers are upset because Ruin was a bandaid fix to a bigger problem...and it was nerfed without that bigger problem being so much as addressed by the devs. In fact, they've gone out of their way to ignore it completely.

And that imo really comes down to poor map design. Unfortunately, I don't think there's many middle ground maps that're fairly balanced out to both sides. And it's something the devs really should address.

    I mean, they might.

It's her strongest build/one of her strongest builds, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was combo'ed into the pre-existing build that Dying Light + Thanatophobia offers.

We'll have to see though, it's still the PTB and things can rapidly change if the right circumstances are met. Unlikely, but it can happen.

Yeah. Unfortunately, I think people concern thsemselves too much with gen times (Yes it is an issue)but don't make the game boring

  • @FireHazard said:

That's another topic, but I get what you mean.

I don't see the new Ruin making the Dying Light + Thanatophobia build a terrible one without it, that's why the build works even when Ruin is removed from the equation. All an all, specific builds like that or not, the new Ruin shouldn't really ruin anything build wise.

I mean, it honestly just opens up more potential for builds now, since even my builds are suffering from "Ruin overuse." Off-topic though, the point is, this should work well with any Plague build if done correctly.

Thano and dying light with plague is too boring in my opinion. And my concern is that killers will probably use thano and dying light with ruin. Probably even surveillance

I rarely see people cleanse totems at Red Ranks, because I rarely see NOED in Red Ranks on both sides.

I main Killer (insert Killer main btw meme), but I also play Survivor as well. Recently I've been going half and half, but mostly staying towards playing Killer more.

The point is, I've see Red Rank Killers builds and played against Red Rank Survivors, they hardly think about cleansing every totem in the match UNLESS the match is going extremely well for them. And if they do, I benefit from it because I never use NOED EVER.

You're right that it's ok to start out with, but to improve and grow, you need to ditch it... If a Killer becomes dependent on it to get the job done, than they'll never improve and be able to play with out. So that's why I don't really recommend it to people, as NOED ensnares new Survivors to keep it in their build for more than it's needed.

At least that's my opinion, if they want to use it than go ahead, I just don't recommend it.

And honestly, I've been playing on live servers, I'll let survivors cleanse totem and wait about 2 gens in to start chasing them and hitting them. I barely notice much of a difference. If anything, I think the new ruin is kind of more helpful. I wouldn't have to be going back and forth kicking gens that're close to finishing. IF anything, i think the new ruin will help survivors not 3 gen themselves so much

  • @FireHazard said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/986372#Comment_986372

Right, its not bad to suggest perks, but at the end of the day it really just depends on what you think is useful for you.

And if it works for you, than that's fine! That's why I don't really care if someone uses NOED anymore, but I personally believe it's stunting that players progress for using it. (By that I mean they don't improve if they depend on it too much).

But we all have opinions of course.

I think NOED is okay for starting to learn the game a bit better. However, at higher ranks NOED doesn't work as much because either A: all the totems are already cleansed. B: you get maybe 1-2 hooks before someone cleanses it. I've had a game where it spawned on a totem I was cleansing. O o ps

I mean hey, unpredictable perk combos have proven to catch people off guard...

Not sure how, but if it works IT WORKS.

You should give it a try. But at the same time, I think a killer is good when you feel confident in the perks you're using. I honestly feel perks come down to a person's play style in the end of the day

  • @FireHazard said:

Monitor and Abuse is an odd choice, how come you use that in your build? Is it for the FOV, or is it because the FOV is with the decreased Terror Radius outside of chases?

It gives me a decreased TR. Normally when I play Plague and people know that I am, they try and get a faster head start. This way I only have a 24M TR. I've often caught people trying to hide in a corner where I can easily block them in and get a full vile purge on then a down. Some people get annoyed by it. Plus I've noticed when I have a larger TR, survivors kind of stop working on gens to try and hide. So, with the new ruin I can see Monitor and abuse being a really good perk

  • I'm not going to lie, as much as I don't agree with the ruin changes (I just don't think it should be a hex perk but it's still viable) that's just petty. Putting negative reviews just because you don't agree with their change is childish.

Even triple A game companies will make changes that the community doesn't like because it's effecting something that made it easier for them. What people don't realize is that there's not a whole lot of people that play Dead by daylight (what I mean is compared to most online games that're PvP it isn't the highest) granted within the last 30 days the count was 44,620 players. Which is good, however what people don't realize who're complaining about the ruin changes is you need a higher volume of players to actually make ranking systems and perks show true potential. Crossplay imo will be good for this to show different skill sets of other people. From my understanding Xbox players completely ignore ruin since they're good at hitting skill checks. And it isn't as if PC players will have a higher advantage since this isn't an FPS.

All in all, I really don't mind the ruin changes. I just kind of wish when the devs change perks (survivor and killer perks alike) that they would have it for the feedback. At the same time, people really shouldn't be hating on devs for it or threatening "we're going to stop playing your game." Instead of posting that, just don't play, take a break.

  • I like to play killer because I can really mess with survivors. It's fun to make them think you're going one way only to hit them face to face

  • If a killer was toxic prior to ruin change, they're still going to be toxic after.

I'm still going to play how I normally play after ruin change. Why? Let's be honest, old ruin stayed on the map for two minutes max. By the time you got into a chase with one survivor ruin was basically taken out. So, what really is the difference? At least this will start gen regression soon as they get off a gen. It'd just be nice if it wasn't a totem perk, but in the end it really doesn't change much.

  • I just think it should be removed as a hex perk. It's fine but, a bit weak to be a hex totem. So, I'd rather just see it become a regular perk

  • I love the people posting about the nerfs survivors got. It isn't like they were breaking the perks or the perks were taken out.

That being said, I'll still enjoy the game. It isn't like the ruin nerf is going to make playing killer impossible. Just going to be a learning experience to get used to the changes

That being said, thank you for the sentiment post and not an us vs them kind

  • I generally main Plague along with Freddy.

For perks it depends on which addons I'm using. For example, if I'm primarily focused around getting survivors sick, I'll use incensed ointment/rubbing oil or infected emetic. With Monitor and abuse, thrilling tremors (could be swapped for your perk of choice there) Play with your food (or BBQ, you can change either of the second and third perks) along with ruin. Even with the new ruin, I'm fairly sure that it'll still be viable. With this all you want to do is spray them a little bit and then move on. If you find your obsession just toy with them a few times until you get about 3 stacks of PWYF so that way once everyone is completely sick you can get 3 downs easily. If you want to be even nastier about it use ashen apple.

Now, if you're where you can't get good LOS on survivors due to where they are, vomit on pallets, and vaults. This will force them to move into LOS if you hit them. IF they don't drop a pallet or vault because they don't want to get sick, it can land you a down. (if you want you could even use save the best for last if you want faster hits.)

If I want to get people down fast, I'll use iridescent seal along with devotee's amulet. Play with your food is a must on those since you'll move slower. Stick with monitor and abuse, you could run ruin with it (that's your choice. If they're all sick by the time they break ruin and pop a few gens the job is done.) Infectious fright or stridor for more information (could use BBQ up to you.)

You will want to respect pallets when you have corrupt purge since they can take your power away once they pallet stun you or get in a locker to use head on. However, if they're fully sick you'll know if they're in it.

30 seconds is too short in my opinion but that's a really good idea

Could even go up to 40/50 seconds. My issue is that I feel like hex totems should be a bit better. Devour hope is really good if you can get the hooks in. Even one kill with it is pretty good. Haunted grounds is very good imo. But the weakest one I would say is Huntress Lullaby.

  • The new ruin is what surge should have been. Then less killers would have relied as much on ruin. However they should just make it a normal perk or let it come back to a dull totem after 30 seconds of it being broken

  • So, having perks that remain permanent is a valid argument? Balanced landing was heavily abused. Old self care you could basically heal yourself faster than a killer could hit you a second time. Mettle of men was complete bs in its original state.

Have you stopped to consider that these perks STAY with the survivor in the entire game while ruin is a totem perk. It can literally be taken out of the game in the first 20 seconds. If it wasn't a totem perk, i could see it needing to be changed/nerf. But it's still a totem perk. Maybe they should just remove it as a totem perk so people can't be overly pissed about it.

The only reason they're changing it is to cater to new players, that's fine I can get behind that. But how ruin is now, should be changed to a normal perk. It really just goes to show how some of the best early game anti-gen perks won't stay the entire match. Corrupt intervention as well as ruin.

We are 3 days in and you want all the results lol, its called wait and see

Problem is, I don't find PTB overly reliable when it comes to testing new perks or changes because most people are just kind of dicking around. I'm going in for actual games for better feedback. If I'm being honest, I don't find the new ruin as a complete nerf. But I'm also used to ruin being destroyed in the game within 1-2 minutes at most or even less times. So the changes don't effect me too much. However, now with the change, I honestly don't see why it should be a hex perk.

  • @JOBreazy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/983727#Comment_983727

They have nerfed everything you said except DH lol, they also nerfed healing and oh yea they took away insta heals so thats another nerf but yet here you are saying they dont do any nerfs to survivors.

you sound like the typical crying killer lol

Where did I even say that they don't nerf survivors? Bringing up that they nerf survivors the way you do comes across as whining. The only reason they nerfed ruin was due to the fact low rank survivors couldn't hit great skill checks. Self care was nerfed due to the insane speed at which you could heal. Insta heal nerfs? That was BS and you know it. They still buffed med kits to compensate for that. So, where did they compensate for the ruin nerfs? It's still a hex perk so it's almost basically useless. Barely ANY hex totems stay in the game for very long.

  • I love how survivors tell killers "just adapt to the ruin changes why are you crying" but their counter argument is basically crying about balanced landing changes. You know, the perk that could basically let them run infinite loops on certain maps. Let's be honest, if the devs nerfed BT, DS, DH or even brand new parts, pretty sure survivors would cry about that as well.

So please, don't start a forum post while clearly showing that you're being hypocritical.

  • Is it unsportsmanlike? I suppose some people would say so. But at the same time if you know that the killer knows you want this specific gen done and they're downing everyone near it, maybe just don't go for it? As for getting a report for it, I highly doubt it's a reportable offense

  • From playing with it on the ruin, it's not my favorite or least favorite now. I kind of wish they would remove it as a totem perk. Maybe hopefully they'll buff surge. Cause honestly this is how surge should have been and people probably would've stopped using ruin awhile ago in favor of it

  • I found skill checks on ruin to be fairly easy to hit. And I have maybe 50ish hours playing survivor and about 550ish as killer. When I play survivor it's normally with one other friend and when I said I was going to look for ruin they just said "what you're not gonna power through ruin?" I was confused by that and so we started to just do gens and it's almost as if ruin didn't even exist. Killer was focused on two other survivors meanwhile we were just doing gens.

But telling killers to git gud. When survivors have so many get out of jail free cards is annoying.

DS, Dead hard, Adrenaline, keys, BT. Let's not forget the games of survivors body blocking hooks with flashlights, DH and possibly even a med kit for the extra hit.

  • Honestly, I can agree. However, just not have it as a totem perk.

  • Can we also make it to where only one survivor can bring a key and opening hatch only applies to them?

I see. I'm wondering how it will apply points to... is it the Brutality emblem you score points in for kicking gens? I think so.... Without being able to kick the gens, how are you going to earn points in that emblem or does it all just add itself up in the end?

I had a game as doctor yesterday on the PTB and got 6,6k in Brutality. 8k on Deviousness (easy on doctor) and 8k on hunter with 7.4k on Sacrifice. So, it's not what I'm used to but, oh well. I just wish they would fix the gatekeeper emblem on the PTB since I'm not getting any emblems for it. Had 3 iris on the other categories but nothing on gatekeeper.

I wouldn't mind if gens regressing from ruin would give you like, 50 points instead of the normal 100 since you're not kicking them yourself. Even surge gave you brutality points. That's why I was hoping the new ruin would still give you points

I take it you feel the game should be balanced around 4 kills average per match.

The game should be around someone's skill and knowledge of the game. However, being able to heal faster than taking a hit? That takes little to no skill, you're getting rewarded. Ruin was only good because it made survivors look for it which made them run around early in game which made it easier for the killer. So did it need to be changed, yes. I don't think this change is it though. Maybe if I could combo it with surge or still kick a gen for extra regression. But imagine this with Brand new parts and lots of tool boxes. This is just punishing low rank killers or new killers because they don't know how to pressure a map and are more likely to tunnel or camp. My pessimistic side said they're punishing new killers in favor of four survivors. My optimistic side said that they're going to come out with a new perk that'll be better than ruin

  • @VincentRedfield said:

To killers, all decent survivor perks are BS.

    Need a tissue?

Pretty sure you're missing the point, but that's okay, it shows you generally play survivor. I'm guessing any decent killer perk or anything that let's the killer one shot a survivor is BS in their eyes too?

  • You don't get to kick them. Think of it this way, you down someone, you kick a gen then hook the survivor. You want to go back to the gen with Pop goes the weezel to kick it again, but you can't. Basically as soon as they get off the gen and stop working on it--it begins to regress.

  • With the new ruin, I'm not going to lie. It's really not that bad. I'm not 100% in love with it, but it is a bit more fun cause when I chase someone off gen, I don't have to kick it to go get free hits on someone about to unhook.

That being said, playing on the PTB I'm getting more used to moving around more often than not rather than worrying about the ruin. Because let's be honest, old ruin, survivors would still probably break it faster than what they're doing now. Now they worry about it within 2-3 hooks. At that point, kind of did it's job

  • @Andres4pres said:

stop crying, you got 1000 of survivor nerfs already. Balanced landing, self care, exhaustion, pallet vacuum etc.

You act like self care didn't need to be nerfed. Or pallet vacuum. Pallet vacuum was a free dead hard without getting exhausted.

  • Just because someone has thousands of hours in the game, doesn't mean that they're going to be that good. I'm going to assume you were able to hook them a few times hopefully. However, when I was at rank 10 I'd go against some red ranks every so few times and I didn't get "bullied."

But telling people not to play killer because the match making dicked you over isn't a good enough reason.

Yeah idk how this new ruin is really gonna turn out. I feel its a bit too weak for a hex.

It's GOOD if you're really good on applying early map pressure. I might be trying ruin with corrupt intervention out on the PTB to see how it goes. The other two perks I'll have to figure out. I can see ruin, corrupt combo being good since it'll apply that early pressure. However, unsure what to use the other perks for. Infectious fright could be a good choice for awareness after downing someone and then w/e helps out after that.
