The problem with stretched res was that it let you see over walls and around corners. Shadowborn FOV is not at all comparable to what stretched res was.
The point is that your perspective is limited for a gameplay purpose. An FOV increase wouldn't just be a quality of life change or accessibility improvement, it would be an actual buff where you see things you wouldn't have otherwise. Like stretched res.
I'm not against the inclusion, but I'd at least like some crouch speed out of it.

Just to give a unique perspective, the poor killer fov has literally altered the development of my friend group on DBD. I have 1 person, out of like 5, that actually plays killer for more than just tome challenges. At least 1 cites that he can't play killer because it makes him feel sick. So instead of 40% of my friends playing killer like me, 20% of them do, and it's directly linked to the poor fov. Obviously using a small-scale example, but the ratio stays about the same if I played regularly with more of my friends.
This is not a small issue. An fov slider should be a standard feature like it is on every other game. It's been asked about for years. All that's been presented to defend the fov staying as it is are very weak and 1-sided arguments. It's a competitive advantage to see normally as opposed to seeing through backwards binoculars? Who would have guessed?
Wasn't having a better view a problem with stretched res?

I do get that to some extent, but let's think about it for a second - let's say an FOV slider would be a gameplay advantage worth thinking about. Wasn't that also true, more true, of BT? If that's the case, then wouldn't an FOV slider still be a good change, even if it technically would be a killer buff?
That's kinda what I don't understand. Even if you think anything providing a gameplay advantage should be a perk, what about the perks like Brutal Strength and BT they've made base that have proven to be good changes?
I can understand considering FOV a significant gameplay advantage to some extent, even if I personally disagree - I just don't see how it invalidates the genuine accessibility issues that are caused by it being locked to a perk slot.
Out of curiosity, how do you see it?
I'd see it as a good change if it wasn't a tragic nerf to stealth. Whatever max FOV they let you set would be, for all intents and purposes, the default FOV, because people want to see more.
And since the game was designed with this limited awareness in mind, it'd make those situations where you just barely slip by the killer much, much harder, since they can see more and not have to make as wild sweeping checks that might make them miss a detail. It's good for accessibility, but it's also a subtle and more significant than you might think buff. Like Stretched Res.
If survivors got, like.. faster crouch speed, I'd be cool with it.
-
I'm glad the screen exists for the times I spend a minute booting up the game just to decide I don't want to play it.

I don't even think it's a case of whiny survivor mains. I think a lot of people just don't have much of a reason to think about it, since most people don't suffer from motion sickness. Which I don't blame them for, but it feels kinda bad when we motion sickness sufferers bring it up and largely get ignored or told to just deal with it.
As someone with an opinion on this matter beyond survivors being smelly doodooheads, I wouldn't really care about an FOV slider.
The reason I imagine people would is that FOV is intentionally low for the same reason chase music can't be altered: a limiting effect on gameplay. It's harder to hear eachother during chases, and it's harder to see people sneaking around you with low FOV. Seeing more things around you is a pretty nice gameplay bonus, hence, perk.
A closer comparison to an FOV slider than BT basekit would be stretched res.. which was patched out.
That's not necessarily how I see it, but it's an argument.

They just don't make 'em like they used to.

You seriously want DS nerfed even further?
DS is only oppressive if you're tunneling people. It's one of the easiest perks in the game to avoid because survivors using it offensively are usually obvious as hell and hand themselves over as free slugs.
I want the locker DS removed AND take it to 2 seconds.
I only want just enough time to give the killer 2 'bags before I immediately go down again.

Yeah I managed to get up by myself with unbreakable and then I used for the people to another survivor. It didn't proc the we're gonna live forever endurance so the survivor I insta healed went down immediately and the challenge didn't count it either.
In that case, I have one last piece of advice for you.

I tried for the people but it doesn't even activate the We're Gonna live forever endurance to the other survivor. It's completely useless for some reason.
Iiiif it doesn't proc WGLF, I have a sinking feeling the challenge won't care for it either.
One exception is too many.
-
For The People, maybe? I don't know if it counts, but it's the only way I could see you actually getting anyone up if the killer doesn't decide to slug.
..of course, you'd be throwing the game doing this. But that's what tome challenges are for, right?
-
People will do anything with any setup.
-
There's also that little cash register spot in the building that has a chest sometimes.
If a killer blocks you in, you're not getting out.
-
What?
-
Man, imagine if they equipped two actual survival perks instead of No Mither and Resilience.
-
The only people this change is going to really affect are the players who aren't very experienced with flashlights, who are probably going to be beyond useless anyway.
-
The people who are good at flashlight saves are gonna make them anyway. I can't remember the last time I saw a survivor who didn't either make the save or screw it up entirely.
And you got locker blind immunity out of it, so I'd say you got the better deal out of this.
-
Gotten it out of your system?
-
The chat filter is chaotic evil. All it ever does is censor whatever innocuous thing you were trying to say to make it sound horrible, and censor any attempt to try and correct it.
OR, or censor a word, and suddenly stop censoring the same word with the same punctuation in the very next line.
Evil.
-
Because DbD hates you.
-
Why are you surprised that people who dish it aren't ready to take it.
-
Then keep camping and tunneling. Do it as much as your little heart desires. Whatever you need to win.
But for the love of god, do it quietly.
Every time anyone loses any game for any reason they come right to the forums and it's
-
I still want Patrick Bateman to be brought in as a survivor.
-
You also have to commit the time to kicking a gen for Eruption, and it's only for that gen.
8% is fine.
-
I just went up against a Nemesis with a clever build.
He had Overcharge, Dragon's Grip, Eruption and, crucially.. Trail of Torment.
The gen he kicks is lit up for everyone. If they go to take the bait, they're exposed and may mess up the Overcharge skill check. If they leave it alone, it regresses faster and faster, and he keeps his Undetectable. If he's feeling particularly cheeky, he hides close by and waits for the trap to spring.
It was Rotten Fields, so he could only be so clever, but I liked the idea.
-
HEY
BE NICE TO HIM

Anything to make the Swamp less
Swamp is good in my eyes.

Yeah, this is probably the logical conclusion for your character arc.

i also play survivors sometime and i can tell you from both perspectives, 8/10 matches will have dc in first 2 minutes
When they see a nurse, they expect the worst.
When they see the nurse is as.. motivated as yours, they know the worst.
And at that point, I can't find it in myself to blame them.
-
I don't flame or give up.
But my hopes aren't very high up.
-
Glad to see we still got The Last Spirit Main hanging around here.
-
I also want people to know if there was a SWF, so people can stop accusing me of being a 4-man while i'm doing solo queue.
-
Who's the guy with the cyborg eyes who sees fast enough for 120+ frames?
-
There IS sort-of-kinda nurse counterplay, but it's less countering Nurse and more just countering Dead by Daylight. Same as old Spirit.
As in, you're so unbelievably efficient with gens that you end the game before her ridiculous chase presence and pressure matters.
This doesn't work always and is very map and build dependant, but there's not much else you can do depending on how good the nurse is.

I play plague the least and that is why my mmr there is not as high, but you are right on what you said.
I do play every match with at least 2 slowdowns and i aim for 4k by any means, that means i camp and i tunnel most of my games when i see it benefits me for the pure win.
Problem is i get fun with low mmr people for a bit, then 5-6 games in a row i face SWF ( somtimes even solo ) squads that wreck me.
Either i am not as good the game thinks, or there is big in-balance in power between the top and avrg mmr quee. Either way i don't want to deal with it, i would like to somehow get locked and not go high mmr at all.
It's wholly possible (and even likely) that MMR isn't working to perfection.
But, uh. No. No, you don't get to lock your MMR. No one gets to specifically seek out baby matches to stomp.
Because that is going to be the actual result of MMR locking.
-
Sure, as long as I can opt out of playing against any killer above D tier.
-
Blight's fine, you just need to remind yourself that the Garden bushes are cursed.
-
Remember that they didn't nerf it for being OP, they nerfed it for being used. A la, Self Care.
They aren't going to revert it.

Some matches from the previous DbD League season:
The two (in)arguably best teams in the world facing off, 4k: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1554080870?collection=-YwKfrSu7Baxxw&t=0h46m16s
Again Trauma, one of the world's two best teams, 3k'd this time by a Nurse that is not even in the top 10 comp Nurses: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1512006733?collection=-YwKfrSu7Baxxw&t=0h0m9s
FallenArt's response? Of course a 4k: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1512006733?collection=-YwKfrSu7Baxxw&t=0h12m36s
Eternal again, 4k again (and then 3k by the other Nurse against Eternal, a top 2 team in the world): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1511995197
Some 4k: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1511992637?t=0h9m13s
One of the most seasoned teams of Russian comp players getting 4k'd (and of course responding with a 4k of their own): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1493702667
Exchanging Nurse 4ks: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1489102693
Another random example of exchanging Nurse 4ks, ongoing tournament (caster is Brazilian, tournament is international): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1626117734
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1618718692 - First part is again exchanging Nurse 4ks, and then yet another exchange of Nurse 4ks after the Billy set
You get the idea.
A few things to note:
I am not saying Nurse 4ks every single time in tournaments, please don't waste the effort trying to show me an instance where that happens. Not only does that have to do with the relative skill of the teams of course, but it's also not like it is literally impossible to escape against her, it's just that even at this level she has an average kill rate of like 3.X, which is ridiculous.
Yeah there are loadout restrictions in place, but the same is the case for the killer. Want to see banned perks?
Individual: - Coup de Grâce - Deadlock - Dissolution - Franklin's Demise - Hex: Blood Favour - Hex: Devour Hope - Hex: Haunted Ground - Hex: Undying - Lethal Pursuer - Play With Your Food - Starstruck Combined: - Bamboozle + Superior Anatomy - Bitter Murmur + Rancor - Enduring + Spirit Fury - Hex: No One Escapes Death + No Way Out - Hex: Thrill of the Hunt + Hex: Pentimento - Nemesis + Rancor
But wait, there's more. Bans on top of that for Nurse specifically:
Individual: - Dead Man's Switch - Eruption - Hex: Pentimento - No Way Out - Scourge Hook: Monstrous Shrine - Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance Combined: - Bitter Murmur + Hex: No One Escapes Death - Rancor + Hex: No One Escapes Death ADD-ONS Required: + Fragile Wheeze + Dark Cincture
So all other add-ons excluded from use.
Don't get me wrong, SWF without loadout restrictions is ridiculous (although in tournaments without restrictions a bunch of the killer characters have proven to still be able to compete with even that), but these restrictions are nothing but even the top-level comp community acknowledging that the killer side too has ridiculous stuff. Both need to be addressed.
What has to be kept in mind here is that these are some of the best survivor players in the world individually, teaming up, with years of practice and experience in that environment of playing as a team, which means high levels of coordination and communication. Not only are teams of this caliber vanishingly rare in pubs (basically non-existent; you can go years without even facing one group comparable to these), but even just the basic premise of having a 4-SWF with voice comms alone is very rare (4-SWFs make for around 5% of all matches last we got info on this, and a fraction in turn of that actually being together in voice chat), which is still worlds removed from the level these teams play at. Good Nurses are infinitely more common in pubs because all that requires is one good Nurse player... deciding to play Nurse. And the fact that good Nurse players can compete even with the absolutely ridiculous scenario of a top-tier voice-comm 4-SWF spells trouble for any pub group. 500+ 4ks in a row sort of trouble.
The main take-away here however remains that there just really is little consistent counterplay against good Nurses. Even the best survivors in the world can fall like flies and look like fools, and the best Nurses like FallenArt downright look like they are cheating, that's how impossible it can seem to do anything against them.
If you are generally interested in comp DbD and want to see some good gameplay and find out that much of the killer lineup can compete well even at that level, check out these channels, where some of the currently more stacked tournaments are going on: https://www.twitch.tv/dbdleague, https://www.twitch.tv/balticleague_, https://www.twitch.tv/phenombr, https://www.twitch.tv/championsofthefog, https://www.twitch.tv/crownperformanceleague - Note that I'm not saying the game is "killer-sided" or whatever, a reasonable take has to be vastly more nuanced than that, but it's certainly infinitely less "survivor-sided" than people sometimes like to make it out to be.
Weird how no one here had anything to say about this.
-
The real problem with Self Care is that the people who bring it are absolutely goddamn determined to use it at least once, no matter what.
It doesn't matter if the killer has Sloppy and Pentimento and you will literally spend half the game self-caring at this point, you're gonna self-heal twice because the killer found you immediately after the first heal and made all that time spent healing worthless.
And what did you do once you found yourself in a nice quiet corner?
It happened. I saw it. I hated it.
-
@Little_Kitten said:
What's sad, Omans, is that if we look in detail at the posts on which players come to complain about the nurse, we can see that you are among the players whose interventions are the most empty.
On each topic of this kind, we find players who
- give tips on how to loop a nurse depending on the situation
- explain what can be dangerous or annoying for a nurse, depending on the map, the building, the RNG, etc.
- explain how range addons are not insane addons
- give tips on how to extend the duration of the hunt (of course, these are not Deus Ex Machina, but added together, they help)
And I'm sure some nurses (including me) would be more than willing to have a quiet chat with any survivor who would like to show how they play against the nurse.
Even anonymously, we don't care; because contrary to what you seem to want to impose as an idea, Omans, we don't care if some survivors are stronger or weaker than the nurse, and our goal is not to say, "Look, you can't do anything against her, you're too lame!"
Are you going to tell me that I'm just waiting for that, and that's why I always ask those who complain to show videos of them confronting the nurse?
It's just the opposite.
On the one hand, it's to make it clear that saying something is fine, but if the person doesn't have any evidence to back up what they're saying, it's a bit meaningless.
And on the other hand, who better than a nurse to explain the mistake that such and such a survivor made at such and such a time, in front of a nurse?
As for you, Omans, you indicated some time ago that if the nurse was getting you so drunk, it was because ... you were dealing with too much. It wasn't even a question of power, because you yourself said you had no trouble playing against them.
Instead of having a hate speech that tries in every way to put down players who take the time to explain to others, calmly, what the nurse is really about, you too should move into a helping and supporting register.
If what you say is true, and you are indeed an experienced survivor who knows how to deal effectively with a nurse, this forum needs your experience more than your bile.
I can physically hear the standing ovation in your head.

Survivors would rather give up and complain rather than adapt - it is known. The 6.10 patch exposed a lot of survivor players whose mentality is very weak. Temporary DC penalty removal also proved how fragile the player base is.
That "lol" just proves how stubborn the community is and I'm glad the game is not balanced around them.

Nurse arguments are completely pointless.
You will never ever ever ever change your opinion about it, neither will the people who think nurse is broken.
These arguments are useless. This post doesn't do anything but make everyone loud and annoying for a brief minute.

I used DH a little bit in my early days, but I've long since stopped since I don't want my chase to be reliant on exhaustion perks.
And I've basically never used DS because it was always that perk. And even after it was made reasonable, I didn't want to train my brain to make stupid plays just to make sure I got my value out of DS.
Aaand then they nuked it, so.

Mmmi'd rather just bin them entirely.

Ok. So say they randomly plundered a toolbox or two, and maybe got a few good sabo plays out of it. That makes them "bullies"? Trying to, you know.. survive?
I get the skepticism, and I wish I was recording it, but believe me when I say the first intention of this team was not winning.
And yes, one of them did find a toolbox in a chest.
