Tunneling is the easiest and quickest way for a killer to win the game, and as of right now there are simply not enough incentives not to play this way. They have tried perks that reward spreading hooks with bloodpoints and it didn't stop tunneling. They have tried anti-tunneling perks and it didn't stop tunneling. They have tried base-kit BT and it didn't stop tunneling. They have tried an anti-face camping system and it didn't stop tunneling. I believe all of this doesn't stop tunneling because none of these deterrents take away the value that killers get from tunneling in general. That value is pressure against gens. Most if not all killers believe that the time it takes to complete gens is simply not long enough, and that tunneling out a player as soon as possible thus turning the game into a 3v1 makes the gen speeds less of an issue. Because of this, I believe a possible solution to tunneling should directly involve gens.

They already added an anti-3 gen kick mechanic to the game so I don't think it's far fetched to believe something like this could also be implemented. I think tunneling should directly impact gen speeds.

If a survivor is hooked consecutively, all gens get a repair speed buff making them take less time to complete, and it stacks. If a killer goes out of their way to spread their hooks, gens get a repair speed slowdown making them take more time to complete that also stacks. I believe this is a solution that is fair for both sides.

This allows the killer to tunnel if they want, but it no longer gives them the pressure that it used to, and gives hooks more value than kills. This also increases the chances of all survivors getting a chance to actually play the game, thus resulting in a more meaningful opportunity to contribute to the entirety of the game.

This has to be the best answer I read. I would say that killers get a buff to gen speed as they spread their hooks (with more hooks the gens take longer) meaning 12 hooks will make a gen take like 1.5 times the time a normal gen would take so 90 + 45 seconds and if they kill a survivors not only will that buff decrease for well the 3 hooks a survivors has but also give the survivors a buff to the gen speed increasing per survivors dead. Meaning a gen might take only 60 seconds instead of 90 if a person is dead. I think this would be an amazing solution and would encourage killers to spread their hooks because it does give them an attractive advantage and make the game more enjoyable. Maybe with every gen completed the speed for the next gens takes longer too so if the first gen gets rushed all next gens take a bit longer or sth like that.

Tunneling is not a problem. Simple evidence for this are the survivors that can avoid detection and can escape their chases. Its a double edge tactic at best and its outcome is heavily reliant on the competency of both the killer and survivor.

I believe this to be supported by the fact devs have stated multiple times for struggling killers to drop chase and find the weak links.

Just drop a chase hm. I see next time I will tell the killer :) thx for the advice

the most important thing when it comes to all that stuff be it tunneling or gens is that bhvr needs to do the right thing and dont hide the sulution behind another chapter and some perks. best example is ds before the nerfs it was the stapel of anti tunneling perks and its locked behind a dlc char and worse its a only real money char

Yeah the problem kinda is that killers don't need to respect the current versions of the anti tunneling perks because they are so ridiculously weak. Off the record can instantly get removed by just hitting you off the hook xD and the current version of DS is just a sorry joke of a perk...the killers tunnel because there are no negative consequences to tunneling like old ds that they kinda respected.

The killer's role is to eliminate survivors from the match. If you want to make it harder for killers to complete their objective, then they need better tools to defend gens. However, those tools have already seen nerfs because survivors also don't like it when killers focus on defending gens either.

The problem is many people just want to nerf everything killers can do to generate pressure which will only leave the killer role into a spot where it's no fun to play. Tunneling is extremely common nowadays, because a lot of alternatives have already been nerfed.

But Pain Res/Deadmans or Grim Embrace and corrupt is basically in every single game? Even if the killer messes up he just uses pain res and grim and you lost all your progress :,D? IDK maybe MMR is the real problem of this game. We might have a completely different experience as we play in different MMR levels. You might be playing a completely different game :)

Use DS and DH if the 3 seconds aren't enough.

I admit, the 3 seconds against Nurse and Blight are a joke. Basekit DS...idk man. Maybe extend DS against specific Killers by 2 seconds.

the thing is tho it forces us to play 2 perks even tho I might just want to run other more chill perks/comfort perks sth like bond. Forcing people to use meta perks is just plain unhealthy for the game IMO. Basekit DS would only be active for the early game :) in the mid to lategame it would automatically deactive but it would do its job against early game tunnelers and increase the chances of survivors doing the objective because just getting 1 out of the 4 survivors out of the game drastically changes the outcome of the game... Someone also said sth like per hook the gens take longer to complete and with each survivor killed that debuff turns into a buff which would make the gens go quicker if it is a 3v1 and a 2v1 because winning a 2v1 is pretty much impossible and winning a 3v1 seems really hard too in Solo Q

Well I can tell this thread will be closed pretty quick. This got to 'Us vs them' like REAL fast lol. But I really need to know...

Can you loop or not? Ever since a horrible accident as a child I haven't been able to believe forum names as truth. :P

That's precisely what it shouldn't be like :) I already told everyone that I play both roles and therefore understand both sides. A lot of players here only see one side of the coin and therefore cause misery for the other side especially veteran players who played this game in times where killers were incredibly weak but those times are over. Killers are so ridiculously oppressive especially if they don't play against high mmr swf lobbies it is unbelievable. Survivors literally have no chance of escaping and after the hatch sound nerf that low chance decreased even more. I really don't know how the future of this game looks like but the way it develops, it's not looking too good especially for solos... I play League and many other games too but DBD Solo Q experience HAS to be the most miserable thing on this planet. I'm not telling them to nerf killers. Killers should be strong I mean they are killers for a reason right? I am telling them to nerf EARLY GAME TUNNELING not tunneling in general EARLY GAME TUNNELING and EARLY GAME SLUGGING is the true root of misery. Hope they do adress this because if they don't...guess we'll just face misery.

  • @shalo said:

You were hit by DS, why were you tunneling?

She was fully healed up and ran towards me and well there were multiple with the same skin :) So I went after one without realizing it was the one I hooked earlier.

  • @Raccoon said:

The killer is allowed to complete their objective as quickly or as slowly as they desire.

BHVR is not going to redesign the game at this point.

Of course they are :) I agree with you. Still I think you know how miserable it can get when they do so don't you? Then there really is no reason for casual survivors etc to keep playing this game anymore and especially no incentive for newer players to start playing this game if this is what they are confronted with.

    ^^ this

Losing 3 gens in your first chase is also not fun. Maybe take care of that issue and killers wouldn't feel like they have to tunnel someone out early to have a chance.

Killers still tunnel? It's just an excuxe they use... At 4 gens there wasn't much progression so there is no reason to do that.

When you lose 3 gens you can tunnel? Didn't I literally adress this in my post? And sure add a mechanic for the killers to be able to make gen repair and progression harder. I donÄt think they need to extend the duration a gen needs in order to be repaired maybe something else like when it reaches 25,50 and 75 percent add like a minigame or something and not a skillcheck idk there are soooo many solutions and killers already have insane gen regression perks so.

  • @Crowman said:

Always about the "survivor fun", but no one everyone wants to address that killers need to enjoy the game too. If you want to heavily nerf the killer's ability to eliminate survivors then killers are going to need to be stronger in defending gens.

I play both roles so I absolutely know how miserable killer can get. Still I really do believe that tuenneling early is the worst possible experience in the game right now. Killer might have been more miserable in the past but not anymore. They have strong perks and a lot of tools to work with but survivors kinda well don't? I use off the record as that is the only reliable anti tunneling perk because DS is just horrible right now. Don't get me wrong SWF is BROOOOOOKEN AF and I know that BUT they can't balance the game around swf/pro teams because then solo players and generally uncoordinated players/swfs will just get massacred and well that really isn't fun... It's not even a competetive game there is no ranked mode or anything so ? There really is not a single reason to tunnel EARLY that is the problem I want them to adress EARLY TUNNELING not at 2-1 gens that's totally valid right u want to get one or two out to be able to chill again as killer and have a good experience but early tunneling...there is nothing that can defend such despicable behaviour in a party game.

  • @EmpireCity830 said:

My games the last 2 weeks have been horrible. On survivor I play solo and get stuck with the dumbest people imaginable. We barely get anything done and die instantly. This is pretty much every game. On killer side, I get matched against the same type of players. They sit on gens, run away as soon they hear me, hide and spread out. Multiple gens are getting pressured and I can't stop them. Most games I barley get any hooks let alone any kills.

Why is the matchmaking system THIS BAD?! I am not the best player in the world and I never try to be but the way this game's MMR system works it forces you to be god tier at the game. You need to be S tier with every killer and be good enough at survivor to carry your team. The community is never going to meet this criteria. Bring the old grade system back. It was a much better system than what we have today.

Are there any other people who are dealing with the same thing that I am w/matches on both sides being crap?

It's always the same with this mmr system... As a solo Q survivor I am facing the 10k hour nurses and as a killer I am facing the god tier swf lobbies...This game is honestly just cooked if I am completely honest. It no longer is about fun but about winning NO MATTER WHAT... If that is the case I might as well just play a competitive game like League.

  • @justalilbit123 said:

Whether it's me or someone else on my team being tunneled, I'm so Fing sick of it. It is the most boring waste of time ever. Nothing makes me want to uninstall more, and I main killer. Any time I play survivor, it's for the latest Tome, and it is the most unbearable slog of tunneling matches ever.

Killer tunnels the first person he finds. If its you, you really have no chance of even getting your team out because they are casual. If its someone else, oh cool, I get to sit on a gen all match. Or more likely, the guy kills himself on hook, and really, can I blame them?

And don't give me this crap about "YOU NEED TO TUNNEL GEN RUSH TOO STRONG". In these matches, the killer is tunneling at 5 gens. They tunnel, tunnel, tunnel even if a single gen hasn't been done 5 minutes into a match. I'm so Fing bored of having to run a full anti-tunnel build just to be able to do something as easy as "finish 2 generators". And the anti-tunnel build doesn't even work very well.

Okay, maybe the literal 0.5% of killers need to tunnel. But the 99.5% others who are tunneling the first hook with no gens done? Holy crap it is so boring.

When is something actually going to be done about this obnoxious strategy?

I really do feel like they need to add Decisive Strike as a basekit ability like they did with basekit borrowed time. Do it half the time or something because it really is necessary IMO...tunneling has reached a new all time high and people are getting tunneled at 5-4 gens literally every single game... It especially ruins the solo q experience which ALREADY is absolutely miserable...no need to make it even worse. Basekit DS would keep the killers from tunneling and if they do they will get hit with DS 100%.

Personally, this was a MAJOR flop. The mode heavily cripples one side of the matchmaking and still provides advantages to the others. Wasn't it supposed to be 0 items? So.....why are survivors still able toop n cheats for items? And why do all the generators have progress on them when you load in? This mode is not fun at all on the killer side. Meanwhile on the survivor side, it's a sail and a half. This is extremely disappointing and I was at first excited to play the new mode but, this really ...really is just lackluster and seems.....rushed.

Is this supposed to be a joke? It‘s a blast as killer 😂 it‘s soo hard as survivors

I honestly can't wait for it anymore... just one hook grab can literally ruin the entire game for survivors especially solo Q survivors.

We get it swf is broken but there are a lot of people who don't play in swfs and I do believe that this will be a very good update to counter "camping" but obviously it will be a massive blow to killers...

Honestly I don't know how you could do it more enjoyable for both sides but the grabs are just stupid...

I feel like if you would be able to unhook WHILE the killer grabs another one it would be totally fine. That is not possible tho...During the grab animation another survivor cannot unhook and THAT is the problem...you have to wait for the grab animation to end and then they can just double hit u and boom they got 2 downs instead of 1... that is the problem. It is not a trade but too much...so they should make it possible to interact with the unhooking while another mate is getting grabbed. Not after the grabbing is finished

  • @nars said:

camping is such a stupid little caveat of the dbd experience. Its completely unfun for everyone, but can also be your only option sometimes like in endgame. But then at the same time 2 survivors can easily shut it down completely... except soloQ makes coordination a roll of the dice.

Absolutely I do get that sometimes because of the way the game was designed killers NEED to camp they don't want to but they are forced to...

I just want Solo Q (which has improved a lot over the last few updates) to improve a bit more and the hook grabs were basically impossible to deal with in an uncoordinated solo Q lobby.

I do not want the free escape card handed to me but not being able to do anything wasn't the way to go either... so yeah I really do not know what they can do to make it more pleasant for everyone...

Actually maybe they should praise the killers more for chasing and not really for killing maybe that would be a route they could go especially when it comes to pipping/ranking up like in old dbd.

But well I just want to know will the Update come with Cage?

This is what we can expect for sure.

Now for me to get theoretical.

Year 7 : Roadmap is where they will lay out how much content we will get. Last year the roadmap was simply that we would get 5 survivors, 4 killers and 2 maps, which included the resident evil chapter content which was revealed.

Quality of Life improvements. This could mean anything. It is worth mentioning that a rework to the prestige system has been teased since October.

Gameplay Improvements. A change to facecamping has been talked about since October also, and a rework to moris and keys have been announced since the 5th anniversary stream.

    Chapter 24 Reveal. Who knows.

A Look at the Store. It's not clear whether they are talking about the in-game store or merch store here.

6th Anniversary In-Game Celebrations. This will likely go over the in-game anniversary event and other stuff like community challenges like last year.

    Thx

Coldwind and Dead Dawg Saloon to be in Dusk/Nighttime

Customisable Menu Music & Backgrounds to match previous DLCs.

Latency caps when looking for matchmaking (50/100/150 ms)

    Remove overheat from Hillbilly.

Quick ingame actions to indicate being chased, saving, working on a generator so that survivors know what each is doing. Mask this with blindness debuff.

A more positive post, but the reveal of David has made me feel so much more seen and welcome in the DBD space as a whole, and I wanted to share that positivity!

Seeing a character revealed as gay is often a very hit or miss ordeal. I remember distinctly the backlash Blizzard received after revealing Soldier: 76 was a gay man, mostly due in part because of its sudden drop and lack of history within the lore. BHVR has been referencing their journey with revealing their first gay character for quite some time now, and I can especially respect that they consulted those with upfront experiences, rather than just dropping a label and running off. Regardless as to whether or not David was the best choice (And I do believe, due to him being a free character and one that focuses a lot of masculinity, he was), it's a huge step forward in the gaming world as a whole, especially because of DBD's genre and audience.

Many LGBTQAI+ people find comfort in this game, myself included. As a lesbian myself, it's often very alienating to join communities and find that the people within want you to burn for existing. The gaming environment is not often accepting of those who don't follow the status quo, regardless of what game it is; I've experienced it many times, both in the DBD sphere and out. Either they think your existence is criminal, or they fetishize it because its "unique" or some other gross term. And I especially appreciate that it IS David, because David shows that gay men can still be powerful, enduring and masculine, and that homosexuality does not detract from ones strength and willpower.

I think they have a very interesting angle with David; I can already see how he may pursue combat and conflict to help himself feel better about his masculinity, and validate himself and his strength; ones sexuality is often a core reason for self-hatred and doubt, and a person may explore many avenues to help themselves feel more solidified in their identity.

While DBD has always had a very open community, it still a huge step forward for a horror game to openly introduce this to us, especially in a time where we often are exposed to representation only when it can be monetized. That's a huge reason as to why I'm glad they DIDN'T do this during pride month.

So thank you, BHVR, for introducing the first in what I hope to be many queer characters that we can find ourselves in! <3

Bro I can‘t play David anymore…used to play him all the time…

As for solo it depends on how bad u are. While some survivors complain their teammates are bad, others say they have around 70-80% escape rate.

escape rate doesn‘t mean being good 😭😭 I don‘t want to get matched with people who escape and do absolutely nothing for the team….This Mmr ######### sucks dude…

This is also a problem on survivor bloodwebs. I leveled tapp from 0 to 39 and only got 11 seeds. That means we are getting approxamately one seed every third bloodweb. This is the same EXACT problem that have plagued the other offering events in the past, where BHVR had to increase the spawn rate.

I rarely see more than one or two or even any of these cursed seed being offered every match and thats probably caused by players simply not having them. Also, as survivor the seeds are almost worthless because you only get points if YOU complete a tangled gen, not 90% of it, not a teammate, only you. This HAS to be changed to whereas if you have used a cursed seed offering you get the points no matter who completes the tangled gen.

This is basic feedback that is given for the nth time for all these events and should not be necessary by now...

Behaviour is just a joke at this point. They don‘t care about the games health because people will play it anyways. They don‘t improve the anti cheat….they don‘t do ######### bro. They just want the quick cash while it‘s still hyped.

When i play Plague I use BBQ/Dying Light/Sloppy Butcher/Thanatophobia. I have a high win % with her. Now shes even stronger.

  • @FFirebrandd said:

There's 2 tactics that work vs Plague.

    1. Nobody Cleanse ever. That way she only ever gets 1 use of Red Puke in the whole game.
    2. Mass Cleanse asap. Once the last pool is used, ALL pools become clean again and Plague gets her power which again... can result in only a single use of Red Puke... but it's more likely that more of your team is healthy when she gets it so it's less impactful. But it is riskier if Plague realizes you're doing that and starts grabbing Pools as often as possible.

Either strat can work but everybody needs to be on the same page.

Yep you are right :) It needs coordination which doesn‘t happen often in Solo Q. Most of the times only in coordinated swf lobbies

😂😂😂 then why do I get them as my teammates? I thought there is something called mmr…or does it mean that I‘m also bad 😭

Well I just went up against a plague and had a similar experience. I think it's counter intuitive to leave yourself injured and vulnerable. Newer players aren't comfortable being injured, and so knowing that cleansing is going to solve all their current problems is probably why they do it. It takes some macro game sense to understand how pressure is different during each stage of the trial.

I guess you are right 😭 so the only solution to my problem is like not playing solo Q anymore? So I‘m forced to play in swf lobbies nice :)

Now that she’s had a nerf, I want to know the consensus about playing against her. Are you now okay with playing against her because of the new changed or do you still hate her for some other reason?

    let me know!

I really do not understand what the devs are thinking? Literally nothing has changed for spirit. No counterplay whatsoever. You don‘t hear where she‘s coming from or anything…..🤦🏻‍♂️ Behaviour telling lies over lies….just as we‘re used to…
