Honestly I would have no problem with David being gay, its the fact that they had to make a post about. They had to go out of the way for it. They just had to say look here's your gay character. If they would have just left the tome and not make a post it Honestly would have been better and not seem forced

Now that you mention it, I think if they left it in the tome it would have been a pretty interesting idea. The post definitely sensationalizes it a bit, kind of like a massive signal to everyone that HEY! HE'S GAY! Even if that wasn't their intent.

Maybe they'll do that moving forward? :0 I can't imagine making a huge post every time a new queer character is released where they grab a megaphone and spread the word, haha. It'd get old and offensive pretty fast.

  • The DavidxDwight shippers are THRIVING right now ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

DEMODOGGY!! I love him so much

  • I think either way it would have had some turbulence; a new character would feel just as forced, I think? Because regardless as to whether or not they had a personality, it'd be overshadowed by "they're gay", and it wouldn't feel any more natural. I worry that it might become a matter of "Selling sexuality", where the new character is unintentionally marketed to be The Gay One (tm), even if they had a cool personality. People would ignore that in favor of choosing their side on whether or not BHVR maliciously hid their representation behind a paywall.

But I do understand the frustrations about a well-known character being gay, even if I'm in favor of it. It's definitely a shock, and hard to adjust to if you've already grown accustomed to the character. You definitely have a right to be upset, since you're the very demographic they're trying to represent. I wonder what would have been done different in this circumstance; it feels like a lose-lose scenario. :( Maybe introduce the new character and ease into it with an accompanying tome, sort of like they're doing with David, but with a cleaner slate?

It has certainly been interesting seeing so many people come out of the closet and admit their leanings.

I think it's encouraging! It shows that people are feeling comfortable expressing a normally hidden part of themselves in this space, now that we have a cornerstone for representation. :)

  • @Chusan said:

I'm glad that you're happy about it. I have no problem with gay peoples but I have a problem if they "market" on it like it's a "special" case.

I'm hoping that it isn't a special case; people tend to sensationalize gay reveals like its the New Years ball drop. I'm hoping that, moving forward, any sexuality reveals are done casually and with respect for the community they're including! :)

  • A lot of people tend to isolate one of the problems, rather than the combination of it all. I don't think SBMM alone is killing the game; anyone pre-RE chapter will remember the masses clamoring for a better matchmaking system. I think it's a result of how the system itself brings out the worst aspects of the game and its outdated features. Issues that were once easily overlooked as "quirky parts of the game" are now being highlighted to the majority.

I also think we have a lot of the new players to credit, for coming into the game with unbiased eyes, and bringing to light a lot of the issues us more seasoned players may have just gone blind to.

I think they're slowly starting to realize and take the steps to fix the game. Better late than never, but ideally, they keep up this momentum and continue making the experience less troublesome for both sides. It's been five years in the making, so I'm hoping this community uproar helps shed some light on issues once ignored in favor of the next big license or cosmetic.

... But I also pre-orded the Evil Dead game and will definitely be pouring hours into it, lol.

  • Can anyone explain to me how the pig is not the most overpowered killer in the game by far. To such a degree that she eclipses all the other killers, and would presumably be played by everyone all the time if she wasnt locked behind a paid DLC

Her dash is easily outmaneuvered because of its set up time and roar, removing any aspect of stealth. You can W key away if you're even the least bit observant.

Her traps are entirely RNG dependent, making it a gamble as to whether or not you wasted anyone's time but your own.

She has no other abilities other than a dash that slows her down when she tries to start it, removing her momentum upon setup, and a dice roll.

In theory, she sounds strong. What sounds better than a killer that can keep one or more survivors occupied with the threat of imminent death, chase a completely separate one, and make any remaining free hands afraid of popping a generator for fear of killing their teammates?

In reality, she's anything but. She can't rely on her power to secure any value, and Pig players are solely responsible for carrying out their own kills without the traps by using the pressure wisely. Traps are more of a slowdown luxury to buy you more time and make up for your slow crouch that removes all aspects of its stealth when you telegraph it with a roar. Solo Queue players will pop generators anyways and just storm through the game, while taking advantage of Pig players who do try to utilize traps by exploiting the time the Pig lost in chasing someone, downing them and trapping them. You can't even bother trapped survivors unless you want to either make the trap a waste and get the down anyways, because the only way to hope a trap goes off is to give them enough time and space to waste all of their options and get unlucky. Pig is only successful if the Pig player can capitalize on the survivor sides misusage of their limited time.

Basically, it's a "time out corner" for any survivor you happen to catch. And trust me, the higher you go on the ladder, the less and less Pig you'll ever see, because people know how to counter and exploit her power.

  • SBMM isn't gone, they just adjusted its variables so that higher-skilled players on both ends had more variety and enjoyment in their games.

And sometimes, that variety comes with survivors who aren't as seasoned as you and make mistakes, or a killer who might not understand all aspects of the game yet. The best you can do is push on, try to set an example for your team and not get so caught up in how "terrible" they may be. Trust me, you'll enjoy your games way more with that mindset!

  • Horny? No.

Do I want Claudette to wife me up so we can live a happy lesbian life in the fog? Absolutely. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Jokes aside, the younger horror community as a whole- Not just DBD- Is notoriously horny due to the frequency of erotic undertones in its media, ESPECIALLY 80s horror, due to its focus on the AIDS crisis and stigmatizing sexual deviancy. And since a majority of the killers and survivors in this game are licensed from said media... well, you can put two and two together!

I think a majority of it is just a joke, though. I once posted a comment under the official Overwatch youtube channel asking for Junkrat in lingerie, totally just messing around. I imagine a lot of it is similar here.

  • It realllyyyy depends on who and why. If you have a killer or survivor you really like and want to prestige, consider if you'll actually use the prestige cosmetics, because that's really the only worthwhile thing you get out of the investment. The increased item rarity only sucks your funds in the long run, and I've never noticed a difference in the loot I'd get via the bloodweb, to be honest. I've never prestiged anyone beyond my mains, both of which have a hot load of nothing in terms of cosmetics, which was the sole reason I did it!

You should definitely hold onto your bloodpoints for now. If you end up wanting to prestige someone else, save up to 1mil and then level them up all over again so you can keep using them as normal, instead of being stuck with a level 1 killer or survivor.

  • I guess I still main Quentin. Had him p3'ed before the face rework, and the vibe was unmatched. It felt so fun, loading into a trail playing him and goofing around. After the rework, I tried out some other characters to recapture that old aura (Johnathan Byers specifically lmao) but none ever stuck. Though, these days, I've been playing lots of Ash and Laurie- Ash just feels so goofy and makes me happy, and Laurie has such a badass vibe!

Killerwise, Demogorgon is my go-to! Picked him up when he came out and never looked back. He's the perfect mix of mobile and threatening, but also its fun to play and always brings some light-heartedness to a match. He feels so fluid to play, and its really rewarding hitting a good curve shred. Also best pupper :)

  • Super duper excited for this one ๐Ÿ‘€ gonna keep tabs on this thread!

  • Nothing quite like the audible sigh I let out when I'm placed on either of the swamps ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

  • Welcome, welcome! Always good to have another survivor in the Fog! :)

I hope the forums can offer you any advice you need. Trying out all the killers and survivors sound fun; Meg is a fantastic starting choice as well!

  • Still way more players than it had in 2019. There are more than just chapter factors going into this. Having around 50k consistent steam players alone is quite impressive, given that it was like, 28k-35k something pre-pandemic? (Feel free to correct me on this- I just took a quick skim! )

    1. The dreaded C-Virus totally inflated numbers due to everyone being forced to stay home. Come 2022, everyone is now returning to something akin to normal, and most things are now in person again, meaning people now have less time to play.
    2. Lots of people were burnt out after the RE chapter- said chapter resulted in a HUGE boost to numbers. I'm still seeing people return to the game after taking a break; it happens every anniversary!
    3. The VHS hyped fell off with a steep drop. I haven't heard anyone actually talk about the game in a context not related to DBD since it was announced. When isolated, I've only really heard complaints. Played the game myself as well, and it was fun, but definitely not the same as DBD!
    4. TONS of new games have come out recently that are taking attention away from DBD, specifically the attention of their primary streamers. (Elden Ring!)

DBD definitely needs some changes, but this isn't the first time, nor the last time, its player count will plateau into the 50k range, and it definitely isn't the first or last time we're going to see players drop the game, come back, and drop the game again. Hopefully, though, we get some major QoL changes soon! I'd love to see em'!

  • ^^ Agree! It'd depend on how they implement it, but I'd be so down for a Terminator chapter. Non-horror franchises can still have characters that dabble on the side of horror, so I don't think it'd be out of the question at all!

  • I can't even imagine being upset at a killer running lightborn. It's a niche perk that works in specific scenarios; if something isn't brought that meets the requirements of its usage, then it's basically an empty perk slot. And if it does work and manages to do its job to prevent the blind, then great! I don't see why people are suddenly fussing over whether or not its fair, it seems rather abrupt that this has become a debate.

I agree with the comment above; is it a good perk? That's something to debate if you're so inclined, because its just so situational, and due to this it becomes a bit of a risk to run it. But to call it unfair or boring is just silly. I've also yet to meet anyone who actually has an issue with it.

  • Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be awesome!! I still play Friday as my main asym, so I'm keen on seeing what they pump out next. I don't think I'd have a preference between Massacre or Halloween; I'd play the hell out of either one, haha.

  • I think the major issues VHS is facing right now are two things:

    1. Its practically only known for being a potential DBD killer or DBD-like game, not really for its own merits. Because of this, people are going into the game with the wrong expectations, resulting in a disconnect between the people who were looking forward to it for the wrong reasons and the people who have played it a ton already and stomp whoever they face. I've noticed a bit of a divide between its currently playerbase; there are those who think its fun, and those who are marginally disappointed in what it truly offered. Unfortunately, because of the publicity it got being near exclusive to DBD streamers, it led up to a game that was consumed by pre-made assumptions. Its still in the closed beta, though, so hopefully this clears up a bit.
    2. There seems to be mechanics that are pretty big turnoffs for some people. Match time is lengthy and potentially boring, you can't really win as the last person alive should your team of strangers be uncoordinated, there's a lack of the fear factor, a baseline voice-com system which, in this genre, is sort of a big point of contention on random teams, and ultimately its just a completely different game at its core. Its bright, colorful, wacky and goofy, and the monsters aren't really intended to be scary as much as they are intended to be thematically consistent. The big hook for DBD is the fact that its a horror game, in the horror genre, about horror-based killers and places.

I think it has potential and looks wonderful (80s? monsters? thats practically tailor-made for me), but the people and streamers who have gotten it to this point are also the people hurting it most due to never allowing its first impression to be for its own merits. And of course, no game is perfect, which is what people were expecting because of its incessant praise.

I don't think VHS and DBD will ever butt heads in the way people are anticipating; someone else on this forum described them as "comfortable neighbors", and I'm inclined to agree.

Carnival Hunt is looking extremely promising though, has had fantastic trailer reception and a really unique concept. Can't wait to see some gameplay for that ๐Ÿ˜ณ

  • Friday the 13th is a classic. It has a few issues, but its a very unique and fun experience (at least for me). It used to have a hacker issue, but with their recent implementation of you being able to host your own lobbies, from what I hear its getting better! It also has a very dedicated and active fanbase, despite the game being developmentally "dead". Only ever had fun in that game. I'd absolutely give it a try, its worth the money to at least test it out. The grind might be back due to the host update as well, rather than skyrocketing due to a bad host.

VHS is a new one, and since you already know about it, its probably worth checking out. Right now, there seems to be a divide between the streamers who are playing it and praising it to the point of hurting its reputation, and the people who aren't streamers playing it and having very mixed reactions; I'd be cautiously optimistic. It would be a very different experience overall and is more closer to Evolve than DBD.

The new Evil Dead game is absolutely one to keep an eye out for- It seems very promising! Very much like a marriage between Friday the 13th ad DBD, but its not out yet and wont be out until next February. I loved the trailer, and I'm hoping that it lives up to the Evil Dead franchise! Very excited for this one, so I'd keep an eye out!

Identity V is one that been out for a while, but its very different aesthetically and I don't believe it has any licensed characters in it.

Monsters and Mortals is by Glowstick entertainment, and its extremely fun! It either pits you up against one monster as a team of 4 collecting shards, or you're ALL against one another. It has licenses and also characters from Dark Deception, which is the other game they're working on- also a game I'd recommended, though it isn't like DBD. Not sure about the grind in this one, as I think its mostly just cosmetic based.

In Silence is alright, and I enjoyed my time playing it, but it doesn't have a lot of depth to customization and grind. Its more or less lobby by lobby, and you get randomly assigned perks. Still fun, but it lacks a lot of that core depth that makes DBD so appealing.

Hide or Die is fun, but I don't believe it has a very big community these days, and overall seems to be mostly forgotten. Additionally, I know nothing about its customization or grind, if there is any at all.

Deceit is sort of like Mafia or Werewolf, but with a more horror-inspired aesthetic. No licenses, but if you enjoy that sort of thing, it might be work a look!

Also Carnival Hunt is a new one that JUST got announced: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fUEYAAnXWQ

  • I really like the way this post was formatted, it captured my thoughts on SBMM entirely. People have literally convinced themselves that they need to be competitive now, despite SBMM doing nothing but trying (though seemingly failing) to create fairer matches.

It's one of the reasons I enjoy the fact it's invisible, because removing the visibility removes the incentive to play sweatier/more competitive, and yet, people are still treating it like its imposing that. The point of the invisibility is because it isn't meant to change how you play, just the matches you get. It's a flawed system for sure, but "If you play your hardest to "win" at DBD, how can you be upset if your opponent does the same?" is exactly how I feel about it, lol.

  • FOWL PLAY

    SURVIVOR PERK

    ____________________________

"People may be unpredictable, but you find comfort in your feathered friends."

    • When within the killers terror radius, press the Active Ability button to trigger Fowl Play.
    • Upon activation, crows 20 meters away will fly into the sky and shriek, as if disturbed. Your scratch marks are hidden for 3/4/5 seconds, and scratch marks will appear around the crows.
    • The direction of the notification depends on the direction you were facing upon activation.
    • Fowl Play has a cooldown of 60/50/40 seconds.
  • I'm super happy about this change; I honestly saw a screenshot of the tweet and thought it was fake. I had given up hope about this mechanic but seeing this brought a smile to my face! They have a long way to go, but this is a great start! :)

  • Never bothered with them. The cosmetics never felt like they were enough of an incentive to put 10 bucks into, when I could have just bought something I would get immediately and be able to enjoy. I'm glad people enjoyed them, but battle passes have never been my thing, and I only ever hear complains about the glyphs lol.

  • I used to run spine chill every game, but I quickly realized that I wasn't utilizing it properly and misinterpreting a lot of the info it was giving me. That, or it was telling me things that weren't hard to miss in the first place. It made me more inclined to play immersed and I suddenly felt that the only times I could ever do actions were when it was off, because that confirmation of "Safety" was very addicting. I made the decision to stop running it to better help my gameplay and awareness, and it made an almost immediate and positive difference in my confidence, how I played and how I looked out for information.

Playing without spine chill made me search harder and stay more aware of my surroundings as a result, since I was far more on edge knowing I was without it. It also encouraged me to pick up on cues and details I would have missed before. I haven't had it on my kit in about a month and I'm super glad I made the choice to drop it! Maybe one day I'll pick it back up again.

  • I play both pretty equally, though I lean more towards survivor! Recently, though, I've been playing killer to destress and warmup before moving to survivor when I want to try and improve.

  • I sadly don't have high hopes for Home Sweet Home: Survive. Not enough people are covering it, only really smaller DBD fans are branching out and trying to get it out there, and the videos I've spotted in my recommended rarely get traction. Although I haven't played it myself, I've heard mostly negative things about it gameplay and queue wise, though people have told me its a fun game with friends that just gets boring quickly. If Friday the 13th never managed to surpass DBD before it was culled, I don't think this will without some major changes.

In Silence is fun, but incredibly small and has very little coverage as well, along with almost never being compared to DBD.

I always see these types of threads around that completely disregard the absolute genre monopoly this game has, along with a terrifying amount of huge licenses. A game will really need to excel to even be a noteworthy competitor, and they probably would have needed to come 4 years earlier lol. It's only getting more money, more players and more coverage the more content they pump out.

People have been saying this game will die for years. It's been at lower points than this before, and it's only gotten bigger. A disappointing chapter isn't going to do the trick(ster- haha, puns). @/Shamelesspigmain said it best; they have a schedule they need to abide too, and they'll eventually make some much-needed changes. The pandemic isn't helping, and while it's great you're holding them to a standard, jumping on the bandwagon isn't a healthy mindset to join. Be mad at the game, absolutely! But be aware that a game doesn't just die from a poor chapter.

  • Man, I feel you. Honestly back when I first started playing the game altogether, both sides felt like a slog where no matter what I did I'd either end up being a detriment to my team or a killer who just couldn't close that skill gap between me and the more experienced survivors I was playing against. Bad losses are something that happen to everyone at some point, even during games where you really feel like you had the chance to excel.

I remember one match I had after a few wins as Demo, whose notoriously one of the more average killers- especially with the basic perks I have, since I haven't even gotten him to 50 yet. Unrelenting OP. I got absolutely b*tch slapped by matchmaking and ended up with a team of 4 red ranks, all who bullied the absolute crap out of me. It was whiplash I was NOT expecting and I got maybe 4 hooks that entire game; a strange change of pace from the normal gameplay I experienced, where I normally get purple or green. But instead of getting demotivated, I took it as a learning experience, critiqued myself and went to bed after laughing a bit, lol.

I think the biggest tip I can offer you to not get demotivated and quit on a specific role is honestly to just try and find humor in whatever you can! I know it sounds strange, but trust me, as someone whose grinding to get to red ranks before the big MMR switch, learning how to laugh at your losses, brush them off and be able to find enjoyment in the small things in the game is an incredibly healthy mindset to play this game with, and it was the differentiating factor between me quitting that beginner grind or continuing to play. If I'm being absolutely bodied in a match as killer, I try to adapt my gameplay, laugh at my mistakes and pick myself back up again, even if I'm creating my own fun at that point. Body blocking someone in a corner and slowly panning my camera down to see their face before spinning off into the ether will never not be funny to me. Yea, I may have lost, but I did everything I could and can at least strive to be better next match.

Basically what I'm getting at is- when you're feeling down about a specific role, try to remember what's fun about it, and if you can't, make your own fun with them. Trapper is funny as hell AND an impressive killer to master. I think both things could be great motivators; work on becoming a Trapper that makes people pissed in endgame, and also do your best to try and make the most out of the matches you feel aren't going your way. If you know you're going to lose and you feel like giving up, why not try your luck, goof off with them a bit and see what happens? They might catch on to your plight and let you farm a bit, and while you still might feel like you've lost, at least you had some fun!

I tend to not recommend getting even sweatier if you know you're losing, because that often results in the loss hitting harder if it DOES come, and might ruin your mood entirely for the game. Now, don't misinterpret that- there's nothing wrong with getting your act together and really trying hard to conquer the endgame. But be careful you don't a sort of more toxic mindset nestle itself and become how you see the game ALL the time, or soon it'll feel less like fun and more like a chore where one loss hurts more than 10 wins felt good, if that makes sense.

I also don't want to make it seem like I'm encouraging throwing, poor gameplay, etc. Some of these will be the complete opposite of what people do and how they enjoy the game, and that's okay! They're just a few things that have made those losses easier for me! :)

  • Nice to see a thread like this amidst the Trickster chaos! Congrats man, that's one heck of an achievement! <3

  • dont mind me I completely misread the title like a dumbass lmao

  • I'm not disappointed since I never got my hopes up or engaged with any of the lgbt/fnaf/burn victim stuff here. I never had any expectations set prior.

I think the Trickster's design is fantastic, but it stands out in a game like DbD. While it's good from a creative standpoint and has a lot going for it, it doesn't have a lot of synergy with any of the other killers, and it doesn't fit the aesthetic the game had prior. Hopefully his cosmetics help with that!

The survivor is fine, and she fits in well with the others. I always take some time to get used to them (I still hate how Felix looks lmao) but she's definitely growing on me. Don't think I'll use her though. :[

  • For years I've dreamed of a Scooby-Doo survivor dlc, for no reason other than dying of laughter seeing a Fred loop a killer around or a Velma doing a gen. It's so stupid and I love it.

  • I REALLY LIKE THE ENERGY OF THIS THREAD AND I AGREE IM SUCH A SUCKER FOR THE GAMES MUSIC <3

  • New chapters = New players = More money = New chapters and patches = New players = so on and so forth.

It's a cycle. I care about new chapters, and you should care about new chapters as well, because new content is what fuels the game and helps it continue. You don't have to like the chapters, but at least understand that new content is what makes the patches and upgrades to the game possible. It isn't just about a cool new cameo or original killer!

  • Thanks so much for sharing! Definitely a huge help to the early-game grind!

  • Can't have shlt in the fog ๐Ÿ’€

  • Meg ๐Ÿ‘ stan ๐Ÿ‘solidarity

  • Kindred is absolutely fantastic- I remember unlocking it and just being blown away by how much it improves the solo experience! It has it's drawbacks, and sometimes it doesn't even matter, since you'll die first hook anyways without assistance, but in general it makes the experience wayyy smoother. Killer camping? Now you can see what they're doing and prepare accordingly. Need gens done? Great! Everyone can see what the other is doing and now there wont be hook-save confusion.

Now, of course, its worth is entirely dependent on how your team reacts, but overall it definitely is a great perk.

But please keep Ashly-Slashy away... please...

  • People keep stating this bug is a good thing, but it's really not. It isn't putting you with better survivors, it's putting you with survivors who are grinding to maintain their rank, which results in them not being rusty at best. Alternatively, you're put with people who DO deserve to be red ranks but are stuck in higher ranks. Of course you're going to notice better gameplay; they're better players. Their gameplay does not accurately reflect your own, but it may seem like the group as a whole is doing well when in reality it's one player carrying the match.

You cannot accurately gauge the skill or value of a player and their gameplay when a major factor of how pipping is determined is currently broken. The fact that you can depip and STILL be the mvp of the match is a testament to how this bug is doing more harm than it is good, because a ranking system needs consistency and stability, and the bug removes that. Rank doesn't matter, and I do agree that rank needs a rework or changes (especially in the SWF department), but it's bad when you can derank for just existing in the same lobby as someone who leaves, like @/Hopesfall said.

  • Oh sick! Congrats haha!

  • I only really stay behind if its to help a survivor that had helped me before, or in general if its been an okay game, I haven't been hooked and I know that I can take a hit for someone whose on their way/ help the group out. There are occasionally times where I pay past altruism forward by going for an incredibly risky save, and most of the time its worked out in my favor- but in general? Be selfish! Embrace that inner independence. If they aren't doing anything for you, you shouldn't feel obligated to do anything for them. Sometimes altruism can work out, but sometimes you just wanna get out.

  • Legion is just creepypasta fanservice, so I'd consider them the least creative. Nothing special about them at all.

Most creative though? For me, that'd be the Plague as well. A person who led her people, quickly rose to a position that many considered divine, only to fall to the sickness she led her people against and brought back by the Entity to spread it. A very gruesome but sick (pun intended) circle.

I also think the Hags design is very unique overall, especially how she runs and her traps. But her origins and inspirations are pretty evident.

  • The struggle state is definitely a change I could see happening. Anything other than button-mashing is an improvement, I feel. I do think the mechanic is a bit overly-complicated, though, but overall it has my vote!

The anti-camp, though... not so much. Too much potential to abuse it, too much punishment for killers. I think some of the other posters here have expressed my worries with the system better than I can at the moment.

  • I'd totally be down to play this! Adept is fun, but a whole lobby of people restricted to playing the character the way they were built originally sounds like a fun challenge. I can only imagine the salt that would be thrown at the Megs and the Clauds lmao.
