Would be fun if this bug happened on a trial with 2 killers.
One basement can be trapped by Trapper, the other by Hag :)

Mostly because when we try to play in a fun or fair way the survivors just teabag and be as toxic as they possibly can then spam insults after the match is over because I dared to play a unique killer that doesn't really exist elsewhere in this game power wise.
I know how that is.
Before Freddy's nerf in 4.7.0 I got a lot of hate for daring to play him.

Appreciate the shoutout friend, I really hope BHVR takes some of your suggestions about combining old and new freddy I'm concerned anytime BHVR talks about reworking, you never know what they're gonna do
Always happy to talk to fellow Freddy players, my friend!
And I'm really happy you liked my concept for him, thank you so much <3
There is a certain concern when it comes to reworks, especially considering what happened to Freddy, but this time I have hope. Hillbilly and Onryo were massive steps in the right direction, and I am confident Freddy will get the same treatment.

Well, I don't think he is the worst killer in the game, but his kill rate was a bit of a surprise.
I think it is mostly because of how rare he is, the dedication of his mains, and his mobility giving him an advantage that some other killers do not have. That last one being the reason I say Dream Projection is the only aspect of his reworked power that is worth salvaging.

I think alot of people undervalue freddy he's alot better than the credit he gets, I would like to see some old freddy back mixed in with the new, I've been playing him alot lately and there are certain aspects to the old freddy I caught myself missing.
If you allow me the self-promote, may I share my own idea? Perhaps it might interest you:
Power: Dream Demon
Pull survivors into the Dream World
-Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.
-Once targeted by The Nightmare’s power, survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.
-During the Dream Transition Survivors can see The Nightmare intermittently and they suffer from the Incapacitated status effect.
-When the Dream Transition Lapse, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.
Once in the Dream World:
-Survivor’s auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are outside of his terror radius.
-Survivors suffer an action speed penalty of 40%.
-To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find non-sleeping Survivors to perform a wake up action.
-Failed Skill Checks can also wake up.
-Hooked Survivors wake up.
Special Ability: Dream Projection
-Teleport to a Generator in view. Releasing the button early will cancel the action.
-Survivors cannot interact with the targeted Generator.

Yeah, we cannot draw conclusions based solely on kill rates.
My main is a good example. Freddy has the fourth highest kill rate in the game, but that definitely doesn't mean he needs a nerf. It doesn't make him stronger than killers like Spirit or Wesker, who have lower kill rates.

Multiple viable perks that all take off % regression and that % regression being comparatively stronger to before due to longer gen times, that isn't stronger?
Legitimate question: What was actually stronger about the old Pop/Ruin meta when the % damage was proportionally lower and there were fewer options for getting it?
Legitimate question: What was actually stronger about the old Pop/Ruin meta when the % damage was proportionally lower and there were fewer options for getting it?
Time.
Have you ever heard that Hex: Ruin was a perk used to slow the game down (just a little bit)? Monto said it on many of his killer videos, and it is an extremely accurate description of what that perk did.
The original versions of Ruin were really good perks. Even though it was possible to power through those Hex Skill Checks, most survivors would go on a totem hunt when they saw Ruin was being used. And if you got lucky with your totem spots, that was really, really good for you.
Alone, Hex: Ruin was easily the king of the killer meta back then. But PGTW was the back-up. If survivors don't go on a totem hunt, they had to either power through Ruin or resort to gen-tapping. That makes the progress go slower, giving you a bigger window to intercept and damage that generator with PGTW. Not to mention, the perk will be there if Ruin gets cleansed.
That combination was so helpful that immediately after the Ruin rework some killers got a bit confused as to what they should run and how to approach the game, especially around Green Ranks. Those were some of the easiest trials I ever had as survivor.

They turned SM into a completely different problem.
They bloated the hell out of her kit and decided to make her miserable in a completely new way.
Like I said, both Skull Merchant and Legion got changed to eliminate a problem, but it didn't make them fun to go against.
But it seems to me all this hatred towards her is still because of her release, as it happened with Legion, rather than her current state.
She does require another change, but it should only concern her power (so no changes to her visual, mori, lore or name) and it definitely shouldn't take priority over other characters.
@Xernoton said:

I never played as or against pre 2.7.0 Legion, so take this with a grain of salt but I really think Skull Merchant is flawed in every aspect. Even now.
Her name is completely random (it has nothing to do with her or her power and the explanation for it is pretty bad too), her power is area denial even now, which is always disliked by survivors, she is incredibly simple with neither mechanical nor strategic depth, which also makes her unappealing for a lot of killer players, her visual design does not fit her power nor her lore (quite the opposite because this mask is about the least stealthy thing imaginable) and it isn't menacing in the slightest, her animations are terrible (mori is a worse copy of Freddy's and her walking animation is beyond awful) and her sound design isn't better. A 4 seconds loop for her chase music isn't exactly nice to listen to after a 20 seconds (it's quite annoying imo).
They took too many things and just mixed them all together when they designed her. Drones could make for a very interesting power. She could have been somewhat similar to Singularity or they could make her drones mobile. Literally anything would be better than this. And as long as that remains, I doubt players will ever be willing to give her a chance. It's not exactly fun trying to loop her only to be forced away from that loop as soon as she presses M2. She has a severe lack of counterplay and is incredibly easy to get results with. There is no penalty for changing the rotation so you can do it as often as you want, which basically takes away any chance of her messing up in a loop.
Legion is still not very popular among survivors but at least you actually have counterplay in the second half of the chase. As opposed to SM, who leaves you with literally nothing other than pre dropping pallets and leaving the loop. She cannot be beaten by performing good in the 1v1 but only by outperforming in the 4v1 aspect. You can barely delay her, so your only chance is to finish the game as soon as possible.
I honestly disagree with certain points here.
In my opinion her name works, her lore is alright and I really like her visuals. Her mori is similar to Freddy's, which is my favorite mori in the game so I'm okay with that, and her chase music isn't that bad.
What I can agree with is her power not being enjoyable to go against, although I don't think it is the worst in the game. When she gets changed again, it should be power and add-ons only.

Legion got a full power rework, a normal rework and people still hate them.
They're just annoying now, but SM's rep won't change until she's completely different.
But they are both no longer actual problems.
Both Legion's rework and the Skull Merchant's rework got rid of certain aspects that made their powers genuinely unhealthy for the game. That doesn't mean they're fun to go against. For some players, they will never be.
-
@Xernoton said:
Honestly, people have gotten used to hating her. It's as natural as breathing. Her very name is enough to trigger all kinds of unpleasant memories. If you ask me, she needs a new name, a fully reworked power that is not area denial, rewritten lore, new visual design and new sound design as well.
You can wrap a rotten candy in whatever fancy layer you like. It doesn't change the fact that is tastes like crap.
I don't think it needs to go this far.
If players managed to let go of their hatred for Legion, then the same will happen for Skull Merchant. We just need to give it more time.

This man gets it. None can match the Majesty that is Claudette 💜
Indeed, my friend <3
We're lucky to main the best survivor in this game.
-
It is all because of her release.
The best way to understand this situation is by looking at the only other killer who had the exact same problem: The Legion.
When the Legion was released they had an inherently flawed design that was even worse than Skull Merchant. The entire community agreed that Legion was a problem that had to be changed. They were easily the most hated killer at the time, and honestly it is justified.
Well, Legion got changed together with patch 2.7.0 and his power was no longer an actual problem. But the hatred didn't go away immediately, it took time. Many players still disliked Legion and would disconnect / suicide on hook against them, regardless of the changes.
With Skull Merchant it is the same thing. Her power is no longer the problem its original iteration was, but the release had its impact. Just like Legion, it will disappear with time.
-
Claudette. She is a perfect, flawless character.
She is beautiful, has a short but very interesting lore, her starting perks are pretty helpful, Blendette was an iconic chapter of Dead by Daylight's history and she is an OG.
What more could I possibly want? She is easily the best survivor in the game.
-
I don't think I've ever used Shards for skins. Freddy doesn't have cosmetics, and I'm not really a fan of what Claudette has for her in the store.
I usually spend them on perks, when the shrine happens to have something I need. And sometimes I use them to buy characters, but it doesn't happen that often. My most recent purchase was the Singularity, who I have yet to play.

Lets bring that back.
The devs said that the stats include closer to 1 million games, but still less than that.
Freddy's pickrate is 1%, but as they round it is probably <1%.
That means last month there were <10,000 matches involving Freddy. I honestly could see this as just being 90-100 Freddy mains just playing around 100 games per month, maybe less.
Third lowest pick rate in the game, unfortunately. And I do not blame people for not wanting to play Freddy, I really don't.

@Heliosse said:

I don't know if it would be "fun", this term in used in theory, but when the actual thing drop, it's another story.
Like i said, an IP isn't eveything (just look at Freddy). And i think this chapter would be really difficult to do, it's mostly a wild card, kinda like Jaws, it can be incredibly original or it can be a mess.
This is no monster that runs, or climb, or shoots, creatures in LN are really specials, it would be as innacurate as Pyramid head, where Behaviour created almost everything he can do because he doesn't do anything special in SH2, he is more of a message after all.
With the massive dominance of mobility killers in this game, i don't think a chapter like LN would be well received (not talking about initial hype, im talking about the long run). Killers that are trully unique and original in their design are for the most part incredibly unpopular, Singularity, Cenobite or even Sadako are the first that come to mind but i could do a full list (open to debate of course).
The killers that are considered great design in this community are almost always killers that dashes, so yeah, there is a clear trend here (i don't see a LN character dashing around).
I used to think IP's were a big deal, but that's not the case anymore, they are a big deal for some people for sure, but not for the majority. Take Wesker for exemple, he is not popular because he is Wesker, he is popular because of his kit, like people say, "it's fun".
The IP here changed almost nothing, the people like you, that plays a certain character because they really love this character in particular, true mains, are rare, and that's why there is 3 Freddy mains even tho he is a very big IP in the horror genra.
Maybe in some months/years, we are going to get a LN chapter that is incredible, but i have 0 faith. I know that im overly pessimisstic in my take, but i guess that's what reading forums does to someone !
Those are fair points, but I do think LN should be given its chance in DBD. There is plenty of potential.

At no point in Freddy's history was he weak enough to be considered the worst killer in the game. Even right now, the weakest he has ever been, you can use him effectively.
The problem with Freddy is how boring he is, how the most unique killer in the game became this uninteresting mess. It is third lowest pick rate in the game, and there is a reason for that.

Its mostly this, but her power is unfun to go against really. The most effective way to play her is to actually play her as a stealth killer now because her power is so useless. But unlike stealth killers like ghostface and wraith, there is no "tell" when she is near you. Ghost face has the cape whoosing sound, wraith snarls super loud. Skull merchant is ironically the best stealth killer in the game right now because she makes literally 0 noise.
That's not to say she is good, myers is still not good when you play him as the insta down stealth killer either, but its just not fun when you immediately take a hit that you had no chance of stopping, and especially worse when they often run sloppy butcher and play hit and run.
The reality is though, her power is far less of a problem than it was before. I'd argue that there are killers who are worse to go against than her, such as tomestone myers etc. It'll jut take a ton of time before people realize that and stop immediately giving up.
An additional problem is that there is no penalty for giving up in DBD. The "rank" system doesn't matter, so if a match isn't going your way, you just give up, this is what is inflating kill rates on many killers and i think is the true reason people don't see that survivors are massively OP at high MMR. Because everyone just gives up immediately if they don't like the map, the killer, the time of day, the cereal they got for breakfast, etc.
Yeah, I agree that Skull Merchant isn't the worst killer to play against in the game. Honestly, the only problem I have with her is the fact that my teammates leave me alone in the match.
Her stealth doesn't really bother me that much, I like stealthy killers (except Ghostface), but I think that was probably not the direction the devs wanted to go with SM. She seems to have been created as a "make your own killer", instead of a stealth / anti-loop hybrid. But again, it is just a guess.

You can absolutely use these stats. They are the most accurate stats we have. And from what i see, the devs have the game in a pretty good spot. The ratio is just where it should be from their point of view. If we want to disagree with that and want the ratio to be somethinbg else, then thats a totally different discussion, that is very much worth taking.
We all know why the stats are the way they are. The ultra comp swf squad like Eternal doesnt even appear in public matches that often, because they mostly play in private matches.
The only thing that suprised me was Freddy being in top 5 kill rate. Guess @GeneralV was right and he is truly as strong as he says. I have to admit defeat there.
I told ya, my friend, that I'd convince you he isn't the weakest killer in the game. Guess the stats did it for me, eh?
-
@UndeddJester said:
When you say DCs are not even included, what do you mean exactly? Matches where someone DC'd aren't included? Or Bot kills aren't included? Also source? I missed where that was stated.
Her issue is that she has a minor degree of slowdown/potency from working around her traps (so like Freddy, Sadako, Pig, Pinhead, she outperforms because the low to average players don't know or care about how to work around her power), and she also has anti loop similar to Clown, who is similarly disliked, but due to his lack of slowdown, there are few calls to delete him.
She is nowhere near 70% strong. My assumption is that her kill rate is effectively an organised protest from survivors suiciding on hook whenever they see her to inflate her numbers so that she gets nerf batted to oblivion. To me this looks like a similar hate campaign as what Freddy had back in the day, which resulted in his butchering much to the lament of players like @GeneralV. Survivors hated the character and review bombed the game to get the character they didn't want to learn against removed... even though mechanically Freddy was OK... even on the weaker side for people in the know.
I am hoping the community grows up a bit, and realises there are way more egregious things in DBD than Skull Merchant in her current form, and we don't get a killer (who is actually fairly pleasant to play) Freddied... but given she doesn't even have the license interest to protect her... I feel like her getting Freddied is quite likely.
That said as long as she keeps her scan based radars (I really like the modern stealth and active drone setup), you could take away ALL of her haste and hindered effects, which would gut her completely, but I'd still have fun just playing around the scans, radar and stealth. If that has to happen to stop the Survivor whining, I'll enjoy playing her in low MMR.
Not only that, but his nerf a week after release led to complaints about him being "too weak" afterwards. And those complaints eventually led to his awful rework in 2019. It is like a big domino effect that took my favorite killer away, the one thing that matters most to me in Dead by Daylight.
As for the topic, I think the situation with Skull Merchant is slightly different. Killers like Freddy and Myers were considered "overpowered" on their releases, but they did not cause problems like SM did. She is more similar to Legion.
Old Legion was far worse than Skull Merchant, but the hatred for him has already dissipated. SM is still stuck on a scenario where people immediately give up against her, even if her current power is no longer a problem. It isn't exactly fun to go against, granted, but it is nowhere near the same as it used to be.
I don't think Skull Merchant will get a nerf, because stats aren't everything and the devs know why her kill rates are so high. I doubt she will get the Freddy treatment, because of the Freddy experience: his rework was poorly received by OG Freddy mains, it was poorly received by survivors, it led to massive complaints and then a nerf that rendered his power useless. I don't think the developers want to risk a repeat of that situation.
She will either get tweaked slightly, or left the way she is until the hatred disappears. At least that is what I guess will happen.

I remember when Blight came out. That patch caused all Xbox1x machines (just those models mind you, not the other Xbox1's) to insta-overheat and shut down when you started up DBD. Wasn't fixed until the following hotfix, like a week later.
It's in the tech issues section. Good reads in there, the players were real understanding...
Console players always get the worst of it, but sometimes not even PC players are safe.

Old Cold Wind feels so long ago, it's crazy to me seeing footage of the Twins in there.
Yeah, that period of transition between the Old DBD and the modern DBD was not a good time to play this game, but it does have some interesting little trivia.
Blight, for instance, could be played on the Old Autohaven maps.

From what I remember it was basically centered around the anniversary and first resident evil chapter. We had three terrible releases in a row Binding of Kin, All-Kill, and Resident Evil. The first two had no maps, terrible realm beyond, overall weak perks, some of the worst killer design up to that point and was leaving a sour taste in the community. Then came Resident Evil, it was terrible. RPD became the most infamous map in DBD just like that and Nemesis felt, weak, boring, and uninspired. And they messed up the code and all forms of console actually became too laggy to play. Then after was Hellraiser, which would end up bogged in the NFT controversy. Yeah, it was rough time, and somewhat continued with Portrait of a Murder and Sadako Rising. All of this also being before the massive meta shake to the traditional perks like Ruin, DS, DH, cetra. And yet DBD actually started to fix things and the numbers recovered. In my memory that was the dark age of DBD and the numbers showed.

Ahhh okay I missed all that(came back and there was a bunch of new content and things for me to catch up on). I was taking a little break from dbd around those times. Some other games had dropped that I was really interested in playing such as Elden ring, Gotham knights, stray and some other stuff. I’m not playing as much right now either bc suicide squad kill the justice league has me occupied(gotta get those bane infamy sets).
Not to mention Binding of Kin and its patch (4.4.0) completely broke the game. Definitely one of the worst patches in the game's history.
