I partially agree, i think the majority of people that could be interested in dbd because of the old horror icons are either already in the boat or will never play.

That could be why Alien and Chucky "flopped" in term of numbers. There is also the fact that a good portion of this community is not attracted to the horror genre that much and just loves the gameplay, even streamer like Hens (he said it himself in a stream) is not that much if not at all in the horror train, he just loves dbd. So except if the killer has a very "good gameplay" and "skill expression", their IP will not matter that much.

In modern dbd, it's mostly the opposite, most people are going to watch the movies/play the games because they heard about the IP, but never watched/played it (in the same vein, most people that mains and loves Cheryl Mason probably never played SH3). So the IP gains a new breath based on their introduction in dbd (gmeplay, being fun to play/verse, bzing memey etc). That's happened to SH, it was dead in the water, and now, Konami is trying to reignite the franchise, i think this new breath from SH was created by dbd. It putted old games with no visibility in the main show, plenty of people just did not knowed the IP, and now they like/love it.

Chucky is decently played now, i think he is more in line with the others in term of pickrate. A shame the official stats can't help since it's from December to January.

Alien has a decent pickrate of 3% which is not bad at all, but it was one of the top 5 most requested IP of ALL TIME and no one gives a damn about it. It's not talked about, it does not have a good reputation like Demogorgon (which come from an IP that will attract new blood and younger audience) and people do not like the gameplay. On this aspect, the Xenomorph is such a failure, it probably should have stayed away. Sometimes it's better to make people drool about something than to actually give them.

New IP that could give dbd a great run would be:

    - Fnaf: I do think that it could be dbd's biggest sales straight up, it is accessible to "kids"/yougner audience (like ST), it has an enormous and still active fanbase and it's one of the most well knowed IP that is also very recent. Problem with fnaf is the war it will probably create between two small portion of the community.

    - The Frictional Games: Absolute gems that deserves to be here, Penumbra, Amnesia or Soma. This studio is excellent and i would be happy to see them get some love in dbd.

    - Bendy: Not the most popular, but kinda like fnaf, i think it could be very decent.

Little nightmare, evil within, there is plenty of choices (also, it's not new, but a Bioshock chapter would be 👌, good gameplay or not, i would add this to my mains)

    Little Nightmares would be fun.

I think there wouldn't be a survivor due to the game's protagonists being children, but overall I think it would be a good fit for DBD.

We did almost get a killer called "The Teacher", didn't we? A Little Nightmares Chapter would be a perfect opportunity to make that happen.

I forgot how horrible old OoO was. Thanks for the memories 👹.

Heh, it wasn't that bad if you were a Freddy main, thanks to the partial immunity he had to that perk.

And besides, at least the OoO user I could hook.

  • Honestly, the level of hatred I have for this perk is the exact same hatred people had for the old Object of Obsession.

  • I usually go with Prove Thyself, We'll Make It, Lithe and Adrenaline.

I think it is a balanced build. It helps with gens, altruism, chases and a little extra help if I survive until the end of the game.

  • Me and the other five Freddy mains here are carrying this killer.

Infinites before breakable walls, old sprint burst, insta heals, original bnp, old keys with hatch, no EGC so survivors can stay in and farm the killer for points or bully, survivors purposefully deranking back to brown to bully new killers. Also I can’t remember really but sabo did it permanently delete the hook or was it just down much longer?

It all depends on when you are.

I strongly believe DBD was a vastly superior game in the past, but all the things you mentioned got changed at different points in time.

Going "back to pre-6.1.0" is vague. There is plenty of room for a perfect version to be found.

  • Ah, another Freddy thread! There can't be one without me :)

@glitchboi is absolutely correct here. Dream Projection is worth salvaging, but honestly that is all that can be said. Freddy's reworked power always had the problem of being boring. There isn't anything really special about it.

But I am confident Freddy's upcoming changes will include a return to his first version, which is what we've always needed. I'm sure every remaining Freddy player out there, and sadly there aren't many of us left, will enjoy it.

    @MechWarrior3 said:

    @GeneralV this is all you.

My thoughts. Freddy has needed love for a LONG time. He’s nowhere near as neat as he use to be. He lost his “vibe”

He definetly needs help in regards to his power. His past rework a few years ago was as general said. A “dework”

Thanks for mentioning me, my friend!

I have played DbD for 6 years and was really looking forward to the lights-out mode. I miss original DbD all the time and thought this would be a way to revisit that kind of play again. Unfortunately, it has not been that at all, it has just been players bringing new killers with built-in advantageous perks the OG killers did not have, then running back to every hook like a job. I really think they missed the mark by letting killers see gen auras and survivors see other survivor auras. No input would have leveled the playing field more and made tunneling more difficult. I also would have been fine with limited survivors and killers (maybe just the original 4 etc). I only saw 3 maps so limits could have been implemented. As you can see the game mode I really want is "DbD 2018".

As you can see the game mode I really want is "DbD 2018".

Yeah ive tried him myself i posted this before playin him and had a overheat thought. It doesnt play half bad. Still don't like some other addons like the dissipation but i guess even with double cooldown he has a good bit more counterplay now.

Honestly I am just glad nothing too drastic was done to him. Hillbilly is finally in a good spot after a long time left in the dirt.

I think his base-kit and add-ons should be approached carefully, or left alone if possible.

  • This change won't hurt him that much, so I think it is okay.

What was the reason behind it? Was he just too hard to face for the average SoloQ survivor so they made him unappealing to play as like they did with Twins?

It is hard to say. If I recall correctly people didn't have a lot of trouble facing him when the Silent Hill chapter released.

I do remember some complaints about him being able to camp and relentlessly tunnel survivors in cages, but that didn't take long to be adjusted.

  • Damn, that was awful. Good thing it has been fixed.

  • I don't mind that leveling up takes a bit of time. Spending my points and getting those add-ons for Freddy is soothing.

We need to go back to pre 6.1.0 for half a year so killers may appreciate what they have now.

How far back are we talking?

    I'm interested in the possibilities.

  • Hello friend!

In DBD it has been the usual. I can confidently say I am back to stay after that really long break. I've been having a lot of fun in Lights Out, even if my main isn't available. Tarhos filled in for Freddy and it was a good experience.

My struggle for Old Freddy's return continues and the amount of support I've received recently warms my heart <3

This fight doesn't end until I get my favorite killer back.

And overall I am doing great. Wanna go to the movies this weekend to watch Madame Web. My expectations aren't high, but I think it will be fun.

  • Hello, my fellow 2018 player.

I gotta say I disagree with this one. There isn't anything particularly frustrating right now for killers in general, and survivors had plenty of their resources straight up removed from the game.

Is this the best it has ever been for killers? No, definitely not. But it might be the easiest, gen-kicking meta aside.

Something being made easier obviously doesn't mean it is better, but objectively speaking there isn't much being put against killers right now.

    @RFSa09 said:

maybe nostalgia? most of the m1 killers are still bad but... do you remember about old maps having 10 pallets in each loop? old items and addons? old perks? old recovering/pallet breaking/stunning animations?

Probably not. Nostalgia rarely plays a role here, because old things are constantly being brought up.

It is impossible to have a "rose tinted" view about something when that something is dissected and discussed all the time. Every Forum member is constantly exposed to the advantages and disadvantages of things that got removed from the game, and it is up to them to decide whether or not they would like that thing to return.

  • Yes, I believe it should be safe to buff them a little bit.

Preferably Call of Brine, as Overcharge at least has the Skill Check that can catch some survivors off-guard.

Some killers already throw games to tunnel someone out, so this won't change anything for them. It would change the people who tunnel more so out of necessity cause some killers like Freddy suck so all that would accomplish is just reduce the amount of killers.

To be fair, you don't necessarily have to tunnel someone out in order to win with Freddy.

It will be easier if you do, but that goes for every killer.

  • I have some random A Nightmare on Elm Street facts to share:

-Originally, Adrenaline did not wake you up against Freddy. This was added together with patch 1.8.1, which happened only a week after his initial release and nerfed several aspects of his power.

-Springwood was the first realm to have only a single map offering tied to it. All realms released before the ANOES chapter had three.

-Freddy used to have partial immunity to Object of Obsession, as awake survivors couldn't see him.

-In the past there was only one Badham Preschool map, instead of five.

-Freddy's power description had some of its flavour text removed, which includes this quote: "Death won't accept him and thus he remains, a calamity, indisputable master of his victims' nightmares."

-...And this one: "You have nothing to worry about. This won't hurt one... little... bit." — Freddy Krueger

-Freddy's Mori is taken directly from the movie.

-The Dream Transition only showing glimpses of Freddy was added after his first nerf. Originally, survivors would see Freddy intermittently during the Transition.

-Lastly, Freddy was the first killer to receive a major rework. Getting that rework reverted is the reason why I joined the Forums.

They're in for a treat when they get thrown back into the regular game with inflated MMR due to them playing this killer sided event, and getting pwnt lol.

Wait for it, there's gonna be a buncha posts complaining how OP survivor is in the regular mode once they can't tunnel and have the gen aura hold their hand as well as it does in lights out.

Actually, what happens in Lights Out stays in Lights Out.

The event doesn't change your MMR.

4s is probably enough, since 5s ds was made for enduring (which made it 4s) and chewed through the 3s stun better than today

But then we are just going to have the exact same situation with Enduring making the stun too short, but this time without Enduring.

Which is why we need 5s.

    @Nebula said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3649016#Comment_3649016

Completely agree. The loss / nerfs with DS and BBQ were definitely huge factors in the viability and prevalence of tunneling. Two perks that should both be reverted to previous versions.

Yes, they should both be reverted. It would help a lot.

I mean we saw what they did with save the best for last, just slapped the copy and pasted code from PWYF and called it a day instead of just giving it more time, I don't really trust them with perk changes at the moment.

also 4s ds makes the most sense since 5s was to counter enduring

It is probably going back to 5s, as it should. 4s isn't enough, and we no longer have to take Enduring into consideration.

    @Kaitsja said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3648944#Comment_3648944

Part of why tunneling wasn't the norm back then also has to do with self-care helping to prevent gens from going too fast, and also because of the lack of conspicuous actions. Someone with DS could repair a gen, heal someone, or unhook. When you think about it, there's a lot of factors that kept tunneling down.

You can also make an argument for survivors having more resources to work with if the killer wanted them out of the game ASAP.

There is plenty of food for thought here, yes. But in terms of perks, I don't think any of them had a bigger impact on tunneling than DS and BBQ.

  • Unfortunately, that is just the nature of this system. It does not work.

My MMR is in some weird limbo that ranges from survivors that are clearly better than I am to a Jill who I grabbed off a dull totem without her being asleep. Rarely do I get a match I can say was truly balanced.

I think what we truly need is for MMR to be scrapped. The feedback is always negative, and it has caused way too much harm.

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3648944#Comment_3648944

Yeah but bringing back the BBQ stacks wouldn't really do much, would it? As nice as the extra BP are, they aren't worth as much as they were back then. The grind was reduced significantly, so it's way more achievable to unlock all perks on all characters. On the other hand, BBQ doesn't really stop you from tunneling either. You can still get stacks even after the first survivor died.

DS definitely should be stronger but there needs to be something besides BP as a reward for the killer not to tunnel. Most people care more about the win than the BP and that's where it becomes to fix the issue. You could try to reward the killer with a bit of information or slowdown, so that they benefit from spreading hooks. However, this would become almost impossible to balance.

I think it would work, actually. Double BPs is a far too generous offer to pass up, regardless of the changes made to the grind. Besides, it would help those who want to go for their P100 journeys.

And DS cannot be replaced, it needs to be here.

  • Yeah, No Mither is a perk I really don't like to see as survivor.

I understand why it exists and I don't think it should be changed. A perk created to be an optional Hard Mode has to be bad.

But sometimes it doesn't feel good to lose a match because someone else wanted to play on Hard Mode.

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3648930#Comment_3648930

But i just don't bite the "Killers won't tunnel if they were power role" thing.

Both sides love to win and there are some ways to make winning easier. You are definitely right, that buffs alone will not make the problem disappear. But I fear that as long as there are cases in which tunneling is simply the only option to compete (rare but they do exist) even a 10 seconds DS wouldn't fix the issue. After all, there is no greater advantage than to eliminate 1 survivor.

I'll say something that is a bit controversial here: If DS left the killer stunned for 20 seconds, then tunneling would become the go to strategy for absolutely everyone. Because survivors would force it on the killer (pre 6.1.0 style) and put them at a significant disadvantage that they could only balance out by doubling down and eliminating that survivor. This is of course very exaggerated but you get the point.

This is why I think it needs both incentives not to tunnel and penalties for tunneling. If tunneling became less efficient and spreading hooks became more efficient at the same time, then killers would have a good reason to avoid tunneling.

This is why I think it needs both incentives not to tunnel and penalties for tunneling.

Well, we did have that with BBQ and DS. To an extent, it works.

It doesn't delete tunneling from the game, I think nothing ever will, but back then tunneling wasn't the norm. And that is huge.

  • Freddy, of course.

He is my main, my favorite killer in the game, so I always love to see him. Doesn't matter if I am playing as him or against him.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3648889#Comment_3648889

People definitely had problems with medkits prior to Circle of Healing, but that's why I refer to it as a sort of background irritation. Everyone generally knew medkits were busted, it's why killer players would brace whenever they saw a lobby with four medkits, but things only reached a fever pitch where the complaints were frequent after CoH exacerbated the issue.

The line I'm responding to is also still extremely misleading. Survivors couldn't just "heal efficiently", self-healing was too strong for years and got absurdly busted around CoH, and "healing got nerfed" is just flat out wrong. Healing didn't get nerfed, CoH and medkits got nerfed- and even those got better at altruism.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3648884#Comment_3648884

I will admit, my statement is more geared towards recent changes, specifically the 6.7.0 changes that nerfed Circle and medkits.

However, actually look at that list. Is that list "healing", or is it self healing? Most of it is self healing, and half of it is also indirect? Like, yeah, Sloppy/Haemorrhage (which you list twice for some reason) did make Resurgence, Reactive Healing, and also Solidarity weaker, but it would be an extreme stretch to say that's a nerf to healing. Similarly, Pharmacy wasn't ever a direct healing perk and only got super killed once the medkit you got from it was nerfed to not be OP anymore.

Hell, there's a BUFF on this list! Botany Knowledge is very strong right now, not being able to specifically use a medkit from a chest to heal yourself does not count as a nerf. Circle of Healing was also flat buffed if you play with comms, but I'll acknowledge is harder to use in solo queue.

So... yeah, healing hasn't been nerfed. Self healing was nerfed in a few ways, and all the direct nerfs were justified (indirect stuff like Resurgence and Solidarity less so). This doesn't prove the line I'm responding to here, if anything it further disproves it.

I don't think so. Going through old threads on the Forums (which is the easiest platform to do it) you'll rarely come across complaints about Med-Kits or self-healing in general.

Killers didn't brace themselves because of four Med-Kits in a lobby, and I can speak definitely from experience on this one. Med-Kits were perfectly fine until COH was released. That perk didn't exacerbate the issue, it created the issue. Because suddenly, everyone could heal themselves at extreme levels of speed, and you as killer had no way to fight that. Even if you snuff the Boon, someone will bless another totem and there goes your pressure.

I disagree with the notion that survivors could just "heal efficiently" with COH, because that perk was way too powerful. But self-healing definitely wasn't overpowered before that.

    @C3Tooth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3648889#Comment_3648889

I think 32sec Self-Care was fine, because it take the same "Gen time" for a teammate to heal (16sec x 2). For me its only murdered after 6.1.0 ; A nerf ontop of the base nerf.

Medkit change should only the charges, the speed should stay 16sec. BUT items survivors bring into the match should spawn an extra chest instead.

I agree that 32 sec Self-Care definitely wasn't useless, but it was vastly inferior to its previous version, before the healing changes around Spirit's release.

And what happened in 6.1.0 was really unnecessary (just like the patch itself). There was really no reason to nerf that perk.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3648851#Comment_3648851

That first line is shockingly misleading, wow.

I don't remember when survivors were able to heal efficiently and there was outcry on the forums, no. I remember that for years self-healing was pretty overpowered, and people sort of had a sustained general irritation with that which reached a fever pitch when Circle of Healing pushed it into overdrive, is that what you're referring to? I also do not remember when healing got nerfed, but I do remember that medkits and Circle of Healing specifically were nerfed in a very specific way.

The rest of your post is kind of an exaggeration along those lines, though it's at least closer. Some people here do act like they should get to deny unhooks, and some people did complain about the concept of boons rather than just (rightfully) complaining about CoH, so I won't really call you out on those. I just wanted to correct that first part, because it's a doozy.

That first line isn't misleading, it is... partially correct.

If you go through older threads on the Forums, you'll see healing was rarely ever complained about. For a long time Self-Care was a healthy perk and part of the meta: it didn't give you an insane speed but it did allow you to heal yourself. That only changed around Spirit's release, when the healing action going from 12 charges to 16 absolutely murdered the perk. After that you had to have a Med-Kit to heal yourself, which were absolutely fine by themselves.

Inner Strength isn't even worth mentioning, as there aren't complaints about that perk. No one had a problem with healing until it was allowed to reach extreme levels with the original iterations of COH, which seems to have been a perk created with Hexes in mind: a powerful effect which can be removed from the trial. But Boons cannot be permanently destroyed, so that perk was unquestionably overpowered and it had to be changed.

The Med-Kit nerf that followed was too much, I don't think it should have happened.

  • Knight is scary.

And I don't mean that in terms of strength, I mean in terms of horror. I honestly had not paid attention to his contribution towards the game's atmosphere until Lights Out.

Spawning guards from the darkness and catching survivors off-guard has been an amazing experience.

Left Behind used to increase generator repair speed when you were the last one alive, but that perk got reworked to find the hatch.

They later added this effect to sole survivor.

I think they are actually talking about Last Standing:

    image.png

This perk was an early version of Bill's Left Behind. It remained in the game's files for a very long time, which means cheaters could actually use this perk. If I am not mistaken it also affected healing and vaulting.

  • 2, maybe 3 minutes.

It happened in 2019, before the Nurse got her nerf. Me and my solo queue teammates played against one on Grim Pantry.

And that match was a massacre. She got two downs extremely fast because of Discordance, then BBQ and Infectious Fright for me and the last survivor.

People call for back to 5sec, others say 3sec is fine. So my meager mathical skills say we should test out 4sec!

We already had 4 seconds though. Back when DS could be used before you got hooked.

For that version of the perk, 4 seconds was okay. Well, technically 4.5 because the perk was a little glitched, but either way the stun time was alright. After all, it wasn't an anti-tunnel perk, it was an anti-momentum perk.

But if DS is to be an anti-tunnel perk again, then it has to have 5 seconds of stun time. Less than that won't work.

You can keep saying the same things but it doesn't matter to me. Moris in DBD are no different than fatalities in MK. They are 100% BM when you have the option to hook the survivor or kill them in a brutal manner. You can take it as agree to disagree or keep rambling on. You're not going to convince me otherwise. I don't assume the worst for everything that happens in a match. I come to reasonable conclusions based on player behavior. If I see a killer tunneling, I consider that toxic. If I see the killer go after the unhooker instead of the unhooked survivor then I respect that killer. Its all about discerning situations, but its also personal because there are players who don't think camping, tunneling or slugging is toxic at all despite the fact changes have been made to the game to address some of these issues.

Then, this is pointless. If you wish to cease the discussion, I'll press the matter no further.

Poor Freddy being specifically affected by this perk + being left out of "Lights out" lol. When i saw the killer roster for the first time during the modifier, i thought of you xD

But yes, if adrenaline doesn't rid survivors of Plague's, wesker's and Nemesis' infections + any other killer with some kind of status effect...i don't see why Freddy has to be punished further.

I think what makes the situation even worse is the fact that, when Freddy first released, Adrenaline did not wake you up.

This was added together with patch 1.8.1, which was already a massive nerf to Freddy. It isn't even outdated design, it is something that should have never been here.
