Ah. Yeah, I would have preferred they just tweak his old power too instead of giving him this rework, but I think that ship has sailed unfortunately.
As long as I am around, that ship will never fully sail.

Killers being weak to specific items is definitely outdated IMO. It a relic of a design direction the game has not been going in for ages (the concept of a Survivor being otherwise powerless against Killers).
That makes them unique, not outdated. This word does not apply here.
-
Once upon a time, Self-Care would be the answer for this question. What a tragic end for what possibly was the first survivor perk I used.
-
My best experience was playing Old Freddy during the last Winter Solstice event, back when I first started playing DBD (2018). Those trials were what made me fall in love with this game.
And my worst experience was, without a shadow of a doubt, my first trial as Reworked Freddy. I had just lost my favourite killer and everything felt wrong. I don't even like thinking about it.
Thankfully my positive memories, especially the ones regarding "Old DBD", vastly outweighs the negatives.

Counterplay that only specifically applies to very old killers isn't an outdated mechanic when they've specifically gone and removed the ability to sabo Trapper's traps? Lightburn should no longer exist in the current state of the game, it makes no sense. A killer shouldn't have a survivor item be a direct counter to their main power.
As I've said, there is no such thing as an "outdated" mechanic. Just because this counterplay only applies to specific killers (which is a very good thing, by the way) it doesn't mean it is "outdated", even if those 2 killers are very old.
Besides, it is not even that powerful and cannot be compared to sabotaging traps. That action denied Trapper of his power for a considerable amount of time. Lightburn denies Wraith and Nurse of their powers for a very short amount of time, and it is very unlikely to make a lot of difference, considering that they are both strong killers.

So light burn is not outdated?
Of course not. It is a counterplay against Wraith and a little trick against Nurse which should stay in the game.
-
There is no such thing as an "outdated" mechanic. Most things designed in the past work just fine nowadays.
There might be one or two exceptions, but that is about it. Basement is not one of them, it never was and it never will be.

Freddy needed what he got and then some tbh. Billy's power is still very similar to what it always was. His main issue imo is that most of his add-ons are pretty useless now. I do like when add-ons are weak and base kits are strong, but some of his add-ons are so niche that you may as well not be running them. That's not great.
I am not talking about Freddy's nerf, I am talking about his rework...

It's not quite that simple as adding clocks like they are now still wastes lots of time so it would still be a huge slowdown as its something that needs to be done.
Come across multiple survivors you effectively slowed the game down by an large amount due to rng or making them wake up.
That would be a similar mechanic to the pig but you can chose when to do it if it's not active, it doesn't slow down the actions in the same way and she still has to chase someone and down them before that can take effect.
Always take into consideration when buying any dlc that these can and do change for the sake of the game itself.
It does not work like that. I thought the exact same thing when Legion got changed: "It is fair, the EULA confirms it".
Until they ruined my main.

@White_Owl said:
Freddy was completely changed for good reasons, his old power was full of bs mechanics. Complete invisibility, unlimited aura reading, inability to interact with awake survivors... He was the personification of the phrase "You can run, but you can't hide", which works great in movies but sucks in a game.
All of his mechanics were perfectly balanced, except one of them. I could prove it to you, but I would need a time machine.

Not sure the devs are willing to put an entire Killer's amount of effort to re-programming in a Killer they already deleted the first time around and then re-structure the game to allow two separate Killers to co-exist as the same Killer.
Then they shouldn't have removed him entirely. My solution would work and it is a simple fix, not to mention finally put an end to this debate.
Besides, Old Freddy's assets, as @QwQw proved, are still there. All of his coding probably still exists, all they need to do is implement it as a separate option.

Eh, I personally prefer new Freddy to old Freddy by leagues, so I'm afraid I can't agree with you on that second part.
Then let both of them coexist. It is simple. It is an easy fix.

Honestly i don't think anyone would be apposed if you could choose between either freddy. Some people loved old. some people....generally like new. Newer reworks they actually acknowledge this by not changing the killers fundamental playstyle. For instance clowns and doctors (unless ya stayed in treatment 24/7). Old freddy i Honestly had more fun being complete invis with a ability to put survivors asleep at will and see them around the map over new. Where ya put ######### on the floor over and over until you get a hit.
Well said, my friend. Thank you.

It has been a while, so I will probaby struggle to find an exact quote, but I belieeeeeve devs have said in the past that they actively don't want Old Freddy back and if they did, they wouldn't have gone the nuclear route of effectively creating a whole new Killer in the first place.
The community's opinion should be way more important than what the devs want. It isn't, but it should be.
Also, they've screwed up on his rework. They cannot keep that generic and dumb version of him in the game.
It doesn't take much to realise that.

As I've said, I won't be able to change your mind, no matter what evidence I present to you. And you won't be able to change mine, no matter what you say to me.
We both think of ourselves as the "right" side of this discussion, and guess what? Maybe we are.
So, why don't we stick to my initial suggestion? Add a "toggle" option which allow us to choose between both os his powers.
Problem solved and everyone is happy.

I'm pretty confident, yes. I don't think a small random forum poll like that is indicative of much.
If that is so, then I suppose I won't be able to change your mind.
I am confident that most of the community want Old Freddy back. New Freddy is the minority.
But you may believe what you wish to believe, I cannot change that. I can only respect your opinion.

Only if you had no idea what you were doing. But if you took the time to learn and understand his unique playstyle, you would have a solid mid-tier killer on your hands, with a lot of potential.
His on-release version was all of that, but better and stronger. Actually, it was a perfect power. Not a single change was ever required.
If you don't trust my word, then trust Otz:

The best ending is to make Demo a blend of new and old Freddy.
That way we have a wholesome, non pedophile Killer who can teleport and pull Survivors into different dimensions.
Most certainly not. I would never choose Demo over Freddy. I don't even like Demo to begin with.

him being strong or weak is not that important.
Imagine if your favourite character got removed from the game. it's bs.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2268539#Comment_2268539
I'll repeat this from my first post.
"even if you despise a character, he is someone's favourite and they should be allowed to continue having their character to play as."
legion came with a few issues...sure... every killer does. and the way legion was handled was also really bad on behaviours part. but at least they remained the same character.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2268543#Comment_2268543
that's literally every chapter
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2268547#Comment_2268547
that doesn't matter.
if you want a detailed look into what freddy was or wasn't, someone will be able to help you out. maybe GeneralV, maybe someone else.
the thing is that, that character doesn't exist anymore. and that is not ok. Was he weak? strong? doesn't matter...you can't play him anymore.
instead of fixing his issues they just replaced him. and that's a terrible design choice.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2268558#Comment_2268558
I miss him...
It not like I played him a lot or anything like that. He was just fun. he was in that pool of characters that I would willingly pick without a daily or something like that.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2268583#Comment_2268583
good or bad is not important. which is why I never bring it up. (or at least I'm pretty sure I didn't)
the point is, you can't play him anymore. and that is the worst thing you can do to a character and their playerbase.
I enjoyed playing as and against freddy. so can we settle this as a matter of opinion and move on? It's not like people don't complain that new freddy isn't annoying or boring to go against.
Legion was also fine. the issue is that deep wounds was exploitable. if deep wounds worked back then just like it does now, there would be no issue. (but let's not focus on legion here)
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2268597#Comment_2268597
like I said... bubbas rework was very good. so I think it can be done well. but you gotta maintain the characters essence intact.
I see, and I miss him too. He was actually my first killer. Back when I started I only had the base game and the ANOES DLC. Played him almost exclusively until that terrible day when he got reworked.
It is about time we get him back.

I don't think most people accurately remember.
Massive slowdown in dream.
Unable to interact with Survivors outside of dream.
7 second to fall asleep.
Fail a skill check to wake up.
Constant aura-reading while asleep.
He was extremely unfun, they just reworked him to be strong but boring.
Oh, trust me I remember everything. And not a single one of the things you mentioned were a problem, except one:
"Unable to interact with Survivors outside of dream."
This one was, specifically during the Transition. Being unable to interrupt actions during the Transition was a problem, a problem which the Incapacitated status effect could easily solve.
As long as you knew what you were doing he was a good killer. His on-release version was even better. Perfect, even.
All it took was a little bit of time to get used to him.
-
@Pulsar said:
Old Freddy wasn't good.

I really, genuinely don't get it.
He was, literally, an M1 killer with a delay. Who makes you hold m1 longer.
I can only rationalize it as nostalgia or just.. vastly different, borderline alien preferences.
"He was, literally, an M1 killer with a delay. Who makes you hold m1 longer."
Which happens to inhabit a different dimension, whose process of pulling people into it opened plenty of room for mindgames. Eventually combined with an extremely precise tracking.
Compare that to mr.generic power that we currently have. It is easy to see which one is better.
-
@BingBongMan said:
Freddy was certainly unique, but I feel like people put him on a pedestal for no reason other than nostalgia.
Freddy was the only killer that had to wait before he could even begin to attack a survivor in chase. Even after he put them to sleep he was just a basic M1 killer who could be looped the same as the rest.
7 seconds of Transition was hardly a problem. The issue was being unable to interrupt Survivor's actions, something the Incapacitated status effect could easily solve.
Also, Freddy did not have a chase ability because you were not supposed to chase people all the time with him. Similar to Wraith.
-
Ah, it is always nice to see love for my dear Old Freddy.
The decision to completely change Freddy was indeed one of the worst decisions BVHR has ever made, second only to Patch 1.9.2 as @GoodBoyKaru mentioned. It truly was extremely unfair to Old Freddy main, such as myself, and this comes from someone who also played New Freddy.
A very simple and easy solution would be to add a "toggle" option, allowing us to choose between New Freddy and Old Freddy (on-release version, please). This, which is a very simple fix, is taking way too long to be implemented.
BVHR must have seen the feedback and backlash regarding Freddy's current power and recent nerf. They must have seen the threads and polls asking for Old Freddy. Why nothing was done, or at least said, is beyond me.
We deserve our killer back and it is about time we get him. I say it proudly, and I always will:
#GiveUsBackOldFreddy
Give our killer another chance. Give us another chance to be a nightmare.

I've never played as Freddy, mostly because I want to express my skill when I choose killers to play, and I wasn't around for old Freddy.
I recently saw Otz play as old Freddy, and I was amazed by the difference. I actually wanted to play that killer.
Bringing back some of old Freddy would be awesome. I might actually get Blood Warden and Fire Up if the killer they came with was actually interesting.
This is some good stuff.
I am glad to see you've liked it! Old Freddy was the first killer I've ever played, when I bought DBD back in 2018. He had his weaknesses, granted, but was extremely fun to play as and, without a shadow of a doubt, the most unique killer in Dead by Daylight's history. His on-release version was all of that, but better and stronger.
My idea here was to "merge" both of his powers together, since he would have the Dream Transition and Dream Projection. It would make him strong, viable, but not overpowered.
I aimed for a perfect power, and it warms my heart to see that I might have succeeded.

22.Freddy received a nerf. That lowered some of his abilities. While forever Freddy vanishing was good. But it didn't fix what people said was his core weakness undynamic simple gameplay. Many have called for another rework or revert to Old Freddy great idea I heard came from @GeneralV I'll bring him incase you haven't seen it. What should the devs do with Freddy?
Thank you, my friend! I've tried my best to come up with a perfect power for Freddy, and I am happy to see you've liked it!
If you or @Dabihwow would like to see it:
Power: Dream Demon
Pull survivors into the Dream World
-Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.
-Once targeted by The Nightmare’s power, survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.
-The Nightmare’s Movement Speed Penalty for putting a survivor into the Dream Transition lasts for 1 second.
-During the Dream Transition Survivors can see The Nightmare intermittently and they suffer from the Incapacitated status effect.
-When the Dream Transition Lapse, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.
Once in the Dream World:
-Survivor’s auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are outside of his terror radius.
-Survivors suffer an action speed penalty of 40%.
-To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find non-sleeping Survivors to perform a wake up action.
-Failed Generator Skill Checks can also wake up.
-Hooked Survivors wake up.
Special Ability: Dream Projection
-Teleport to a Generator in view. Releasing the button early will cancel the action.
-Survivors cannot interact with the targeted Generator.
-For each Survivor in the Dream World, the cool-down of using Dream Projection is reduced by stack-able 20%.
“You have nothing to worry about. This won’t hurt one… little… bit.” -Freddy Krueger
