I completely disagree. Crossplay was long overdue and made everything better.
Except one thing: the fact that no one knows each other anymore. Before it was implemented, it wasn't unusual to play with the same people multiple times, which is way harder now because of the sheer amount of players.
However, in the end this is just a very minor inconvenience.

They won't do this anymore because casuals don't like the idea of event items being exclusive to the players that played during the event... so the whole community has to go without good events that BHVR has put on in the past.
I doubt this was the actual reason behind the change. If it was, then I don't know what to say.
And trust me, I am not the biggest fan of cosmetics being exclusive, but changing everything because of this would be plain dumb.

Yeah there are many good memories from the past, that brought very unique and interesting mechanics.
I really do have my fingers crossed for this upcoming Halloween Event, but Im also trying to not get my hopes up because its more than likely Ill be disappointed
Yeah, I will never forget that day. Since I was facing my main, I thought I was going to read him like a book...until I saw the Exit Gate blocked as he pulled me into the Dream World.
And sadly, it is indeed a good idea to not keep your hopes up for October.
-
"If you were unlucky enough as both killer or survivor and not be able to obtain or destroy a Vessel"
This reminds me of that one Freddy with Blood Warden when I was trying to escape with my Vessel...
With that aside, I gotta say that I agree with everything you've said here, my friend. And it is disheartening to think that October is probably going to create yet another boring event, like The Eternal Blight (if that thing can even be called an event).

Yes that adds a good spooky vibe and gives maps their identity more. And adds appreciation to the lore. Imagine you’re on Suffocation you go down for a save while you see the arms of miners sticking out of the rubble and maybe further in to see more of them and their remains maybe even one bear trap in there. That’d be great
I agree. And hey, at least we know it is not an impossible idea, since Badham used to have it.

Winter lobbies are excellent choices, if I do say so myself.
I first started playing DBD during the Winter Solstice event in 2018, and I would love to see that lobby again:

Yeah I like the new graphics a lot but the lack of fog makes the atmosphere a lot worse. It shouldn’t be tied to an add on anyway
Agreed. We need more Fog. THICC Fog.
The game cannot lack something so important lore-wise and gameplay-wise.

The heck? You dont like Demoboi?
I expected more from a old Freddy lover. ;(
Sorry to disappoint, but it gets hard to like a character when every time you see him you get tunneled or hit on the hook for no reason.

Add more Easter eggs from the lore like seeing Freddy’s claw marks in Badham or where he slept. In Suffocation Pit we should see the miners that Trapper trapped. In Gas Heaven cars with the bodies crushed by Wraith should be in some of their trunks. While in Thompson House Hillbilly’s parents.

Like...this?

Well when you are facing a killer with legit NO counterplay if they have even a single braincell, then yes.
Still doesn't make it fair with your teammates. Spirit may be broken, but she is not invincible. If you stick around, there is a chance for you to win.
If I DCed every time I ran across a killer that I do not enjoy, I would screw my teammates every time the killer happened to be Ghostface, Trickster, Twins, Nemesis, Spirit or Demogorgon.
This isn't right.
-
Imagine DCing because you don't like the killer you are facing.

That's fair, I'm just thinking like an ever quicker speed to kicking, that's all. Not a lot, but time management would be less strict
That is why I always run Brutal Strength. It feels so slow without it.
-
That map by itself is brutal.
-
And green Autohaven, and Coldwind, and Old Léry's, and The Game when it didn't have a thousand safe pallets, and Springwood when there was only one...
I miss those maps. I loved them.

Wouldn't it be cool if we had an event with all older versions of the maps? Just a thought.
Now that I think about it...Probably won't happen, since Behaviour is way too busy creating a 3th version of the anniversary crown.
An event? Oh, my friend, if it was up to me you would never hear about "The Realm Beyond" again.
I would reduce it to atoms, send it into oblivion, make it pay for what it did to us.
Sadly, I do not have such power, so anything with the old maps would be good enough for me.

As a new player i hope they can bring these things back too. I really don't like new coldwind farm, the old lighting looked so much better. And i wish i could have tried old freddy because he looked so unique. Right now he is kind of a basic killer with a freddy themed power, i guess.
Yeah i can see why people miss old dbd
I agree completely with what you've said, my friend. I know how it feels to miss the old lighting and ambience. And, just like you, I hope the devs eventually bring everything back. Old Freddy included, obviously. That is not negotiable.
And people are right to miss old DBD for a very simple reason: that is what DBD truly is.

One thing that I 100% agree with you is about the fog, lore-wise is probably one of the most important factors, since the characters are literally taken by it, so I don't see a problem by making the fog more THICC.
Now about the moon bouquet...personally I wouldn't mind coming back, but we all know that those little monsters would be practically invisible with them lol.
The "little monsters":
An Old Freddy main fears no Blendette, my dear friend.
But hey, I am glad to see you agree with me on that one. A THICC Fog with proper lighting can easily make things better.

Damn that looks cool! Old fog needs to return
It sure does! By far the best menu ever: All Hallows` Eve event, 2017.
And I agree, my friend, the old fog needs to return to the game. Everything was better with it.
-
There is an easy solution and a hard solution.
The easy one consists of everyone buying a time machine and returning to 2017. Problem solved, DBD is scary again.
The hard one consists of working with what we currently have. So, let us start:
1- Maps and ambience
We are starting with the obvious, and so I shall state the obvious: reworked maps are absolute garbage on every single goddamn aspect, this one included. Crotus Prenn is the best, yet saddest example of this: a map whose ambience was top tier got transformed into an empty wasteland.
My idea is simply erasing the stupid Realm Beyond and return the maps to what they once were. However, I imagine this is out of the equation to the devs, so we would have to work to make the garbage more tolerable. And I suppose it can be done, with basically 2 things:
-Fog: We need more Fog. It is an extremely important element in DBD, both lore-wise and gameplay-wise, which somehow the game currently lacks. We would need something like this:
-Lighting: Lighting is something which, undeniably, got worse throughout the years. The Realm Beyond merely kicked an already dead horse. The image above shows what the lighting should look like, which is basically 2017 levels. Alternatively, the devs can bring this precious treasure back:
2- Killers
Next we are going to what makes the game truly scary, the killers themselves. And I think we can divide the killers into 3 types: scary, neutral, and not scary.
-Scary killers are the ones who are scary by themselves and do not depend on the maps for their spookiness factor. In my honest opinion, during DBD`s golden age of spookiness the scariest killers were Freddy and Michael, mainly because of how their powers worked. Michael still plays the same, so everything is okay with him.
Freddy`s scary factor came from the way he approached survivors, something that he now lacks. Give him his old power back and he can rule the Fog alongside Michael, in a spooky diarchy.
Other killers, such as Doctor, are also members of this category, but not nearly as scary as those 2 kings.
(Don`t question this image)-Neutral killers are the ones who end up depending on maps to be scary, such as Trapper and Hillbilly. However, keep in mind that those killers were designed with the old ambience in mind, and if it was to return I believe these killers would automatically be in a good spot.
-Killers who are not scary are an eternal problem, because not much can be done about them. Legion, Trickster, Deathslinger do not have what makes a horror icon a...well, horror icon. The ambience changing around them should make them somewhat tolerable, but the experience they provide will never be the same as the other 2 categories.
Not to mention that those killers are annoying by themselves, so there is that.
3- Survivors
The scary factor of the Survivor experience depends on the other 2 items, so there isn`t much to talk about here. However, something worth mentioning are the animations. Old animations made the survivors look scared are paranoid, while new animations make them look weird.
What should be done here is obvious. Revert it.
4- Menus
Last but not least, we have the menus. And they should return to the old style. Period.
If you don`t know what I am talking about:
It doesn`t really need to look exactly like this...but something close to it would be nice.
5- Final thoughts
And I believe that is it! Now, I`ve talked about what I think would be the best way to make DBD scary again, but this is all my opinion.
Lots of people here have already shared their ideas, and maybe the best solution would be to mix them all into one spooky result.
Anyway, I apologize for the long post, and thank you for for creating this thread! This topic is very enjoyable.
-
First of all, take a good look at the entire cast and read their descriptions. Now, pay attention to the one killer who stands out the most to you. That is the killer you want to start with.
When you are starting, you shouldn't care about a killer's difficulty, you just need to care about which killer you like. I started with Old Freddy thanks to my love for the character, and that was the best decision I've ever made when it comes to DBD.
-
Imagine DCing because you don't like the killer you are facing.

Little iffy on Tinkerer while it is devastating on say Billy or Blight best mobility killers in the game. With perks. It needs other perks for true devastation one of them gone quite quickly. As well, it’s meh on 4.6 killers and garbage on 4.4 killers.
Well, I suppose this aspect of Tinkerer has never changed. It never was a perk which every killer could make use of.
Its original effect with add-ons was very powerful on Billy and Huntress, yet mediocre on everyone else. If I am not mistaken, literally none of Old Freddy's add-ons were affected by it.
It is interesting how some things do not change.
-
I remember the days when I first started playing DBD, when Doctor's illusions actually had an effect on me. And I miss that feeling.
I would like said change.
-
There was actually a time when not a single one of those 3 perks you've mentioned existed. What would happen would be similar to what happened back then: there still is a "meta", it merely looks different.

Not every single solo queue teammate is terrible. I've seen solo players spreading on gens before, especially in the past.

Yeah, honestly no shame in saying it, honestly if Killers get some minor buffs then it'd be easier.
Nothing intense obviously
Minor buffs would indeed make the killer role easier, but I don't think said buffs are required.
-
Well, I don't play any survivors released after 2019, so it doesn't really matter for me who it will be.

You can not play around tinkerer, it activates with no if, or buts. It’s not like discordance, BBQ, etc where there is counter, there is none.
You spread on gens. Done.
There is absolutely nothing a killer can do against 3 Tinkerer procs at the same time. He can get one of you, if he is lucky.
-
Hey buddy, welcome to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here!
Your suggestion has been talked about before, and literally everyone is supportive of it. Perhaps eventually the devs will make it an actual feature.
And let me tell you, I already know which menu theme I want as my default:
-
@WexlerWendigo said:

Tinkerer is easily #1, no other perk in the game handholds a player in the game as much as it does.
Just like everyone else here pointed out, Tinkerer is not that good. First of all, it still has the same flaw that its very first version had: not every killer can use it. Not to mention that the perk by itself does nothing except giving you information.
And besides, once survivors realize that you have it, it is very easy to play around it.
Tinkerer is not the best perk in the game. It never was.
-
Honestly that is a pretty reasonable list, though I would say you've underrated PWYF and Coulrophobia, and overrated Tinkerer.
-
Well...I would expect you to go hunt someone else, but I do understand the reasoning of not wanting to do so.

Agreed. I miss old Ruin for this reason. It forced me to get better at hitting great skill checks.
And here is something I definitely agree with!
-
Killer is definitely harder than survivor. Always was, always will be.
And, truth be told, that is okay.
-
Oh, this list is nostalgic. It reminds me of the good ole' days when I used PWYF to compensate for RPB's movement speed reduction. Haven't touched that perk ever since.
It is a shame that build doesn't work anymore. It used to be one of my favorites.
-
Nah, there is nothing wrong with perks that only punish new players. We were all new players at some point, and if the experience of playing against those perks was that bad, we wouldn't be here by now.
They weren't there to punish us, per say, they were there to teach us.
-
I only do it to make sure that everyone is safe. Once my teammates are in the gate, I will leave.
-
Someone had a concept with Bill, if I am not mistaken.
It would be interesting, but I imagine there would be a few problems with licensed survivors.
-
I do, simply because Whispers is for chads. And it lasts the whole game, which is a plus.

I can't. Without Brutal Strength everything feels...slow.

Cheryl, Quentin, Laurie and Ash.

I don't even have hoarded cakes, I guess BPS will be the solution.
DBD isn't even fun for me anymore, but Blood Hunt is Blood Hunt.

It always has been, since its release in 2017.

Coolest: A Nightmare on Elm Street
Scariest: Spark of Madness
Worst: Darkness Among Us

Probably not.

I had already commented on this thread. Just replied to myself in there :)
-
Honestly, I don't mind the competitive approach. Yes, it is not that fun, but everyone has the right to use whatever they want.
And if they want to bring the strongest perks and add-ons every single game, then so be it.
