In fact Sony and Microsoft don't give the authorization easily because they want their share on every DLC played on their console and they don't want that people migrate from a console to an other... So before giving the right to devs for cross-progression they do some math to estimate what they won and what they lost. ( And it's important shortly before and after the release of new consoles )

Cross progression is wanted but very difficult to authorize. I would buy Monster Hunter World again if I could carry over all my progress. I don't want to go through all that again.

  • Actually running Ruin and DH isn't a good idea. Before Undying came out you never ran these 2 perks together. The reason being once they touch a gen they know Ruin is on the map. They go looking for it and they often found DH instead. Once they know a Hex is on the field it's going to get cleansed eventually.

Devour Hopes strength is if you have good placement they won't know it's there until it's too late. If you run Undying and DH they won't get a notification until 3 stacks. It's surprising the amount of survivors who ignore totems because they don't think there's a hex in play. By then you can one shot survivors and you can protect it. The only way for them to discover DH early is they have to stumble upon a lit totem. With Undying they have to cleanse it twice. It doubles the chances of the perk lasting. Chances are still pretty slim though.

  • @DemonDaddy said:

I found the perk to be vastly overrated by survivors. It's a hex so it's already bad in my opinion, but for some reason survivors believe it very closely ensures a killer victory. Every time I have gone against this I couldn't understand what the struggle was. Do gens and Escape the chase if you get in one. The only difference is in a normal match you can leave the generator with your progression saved in place unless the killer actively travels across the map to do something to it. Kind of sad Killers can't have nice things because survivors get gen greedy and refuse to respect the killers presence with stealth or distance.

This is why I feel it is important for the people on the balancing team to play the game, both sides, at high ranks. The need to be able to look at players complaints and determine whether

    • their really is a problem that needs looking into
    • or
    • it's just a sore loser that doesn't want to git gud.
  • Is it sad that we just got a new killer not too long ago and were already over it? Shows you how bad The Twins are.

  • Any competitive game(yes this is one of those. Google the definition and tell me I'm wrong) it's better to balance it around the hardcore. If you keep making the game easier then the people who are actually skilled can't shine because everyone can do it. Look at what they are doing to Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter over the last few years and you'll see what I'm talking about. Casuals don't tend to stick around either. Once a new game comes out they play that.

  • I think that all depends on what level we want perks to be.

If say you want all killer perks to be monstrous shrine level or all survivor perks to be as strong as DS. Then no one would play the game.

I want perks to be viable, useful but not powerful. I want them to be good enough to be able to get practical use out of them but I don't want them to be must picks. The survivor meta is a prime example. Those perks clearly trump all others yet there are plenty other perks that are good but are overshadowed by the meta.

Tbh I found it doing two things really well to be what made it OP and oppressive.

I think the new one is going to be pretty useless outside of maybe devour hope or something.

It was too good at two things, they made it basically mediocre at both things now, if they had kept either aspect of it as it was and nerfed the other I think it would have been fine.

Hell if they swapped it's current aura effect with thrill's effect they could have nerfed undying and buffed thrill at the same them; then keep the new other changes and suddenly undying is still useful while nerfed and thrill is stronger....

We actually pointed that out to Almo in another thread but after stating their opinion on the perk they proceeded to just....ignore everything else.

If something is good the devs tend to nerf it too hard. Not just killer stuff either. Old MoM for example. It needed a nerf but when was the last time you saw someone using it?

  • I was playing yesterday with some friends. I hadn't played the game in like 10 months but I still turned it on once in awhile during the daily login bonus. Yesterday it gave me an error saying I had to verify integrity. Once that was done there were 6 files that were bad. Then I got slapped with a 6.3gb update. My games auto update so I'm confused why it happened.

No it probably won't be entirely useless but ,it will be easily cleansed, easy counter hide the totems. Survivor's don't even need to cleanse totems to win unless it's a three gen then you might want to cleanse, which can be easily done,it's not going to be useless but it will just make the games back to how they were post Undying nerf.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1877602#Comment_1877602

Why? These thing's happen every patch or every other patch.Makes no sense to quit, then who ever started this wins.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1877604#Comment_1877604

Probably, I 4K with out these things which is weird and, I honestly don't know why it's being nerfed. This is probably the best combos for killer and it's being taken away.

Whenever they nerf something good that tends to put people off the game.

  • They worked on the UI so they didn't have to balance the game.

  • @crowbarman said:

    @naughtyboyjames

Sadly they have nerfed Undying in the next release and you will no longer be able to see when they are cleaning your hex totems, and cleaning two will kill Ruin every time (so they can ignore most dulls now).

and survivor que times will get even longer because some killers will leave when that patch goes live.

  • Though the devs don't "call" it anti tunnel, it serves that function anyway. You don't need more 2nd chance perks.

  • Id probably go in with the intention to take away those keys with Franklins. I wouldnt even pressure gens. Id just drop the keys and guard them till the entity took them.

  • His add ons are even weaker when you take in the fact that 1 of those spots is almost always reserved for a trapper bag. I can't go into a match without one. I would like there to be some sort of skill check required to disarm a trap. Certain add ons make it smaller like Unnerving Presence on an Overcharge. Failure results in being trapped.

    offering : ")

I think using shroud here was a mistake ... I am not sure tho, I am not veteran

Back in the days when 4 survivors on the same gen was powerful, that offering had some purpose. Today it's the opposite. 4 people on the same gen is actually good for the killer as opposed to each on their own gen. Anymore than 2 people is just not worth it. The time is better spent finding a different gen.

  • I hope Lerys >.>

  • They probably want you to buy all that content again. When console people play the game on PC they realize just how bad the console version is. I semi wonder if BHVR did that on purpose -.-

  • Your eyes have been open. May the entity bless you.........probably not. We can only hope the pendulum will swing back sometime in the near future.

  • I cannot begin to take you seriously. Killer is obviously the role that is dangerously low on players. Why do you think survivor que times are so long?

  • I just want to say I think I had the "Super Power" poster back in those days. Memories :)

  • @Moundshroud said:

What you are experiencing is the Potato's Lament. We all had to go through it. New Killers, just like new Survivors don't know much. They aren't very good at hunting. They don't know how to patrol Generators effectively, and cannot take full advantage of their speed in 1v1 chases yet. They also don't have a huge array of Perks yet to help them find those pesky Survivors. So if/when they get someone on the hook, they think that "a bird in hand is better than two in the bush." This isn't true actually. Camping is bad for new Killers because it:

    1. Deprives them of practice they desperately need.
    2. It also deprives them of points and Emblem advancement, as more Survivors tend to escape.
    3. It creates a bad habit that tends to stick with them for a long time.

New Killers don't yet understand that they should want you to get off that hook, so they can hook you again. The game rewards more chases, more hits, and more hooks. Chances are if you caught that person once, you will catch them again. You need to be out there learning how to find the other Survivors. You also don't want to scare off potential rescuers. Remember, every Survivor going to unhook someone is not working on Generators. Potato Killers whose close proximity to the hook prevents people from trying to rescue only hurts them.

There is good news Potato Survivors; this too shall pass. As Killers get better, they tend to "face camp" (what I call Squatting) less and less. Why? Natural selection. It doesn't take too long to figure out it isn't a productive tactic in "most" situations. Best of all, you can help cure them of the habit. It doesn't require punishments or long, loud diatribes here on the forum. This is an in-game behavior and it is best dealt with by in-game solutions. I warn you, however, is is a harsh and unforgiving method. It does work. Please consider the following:

    1. A Face Camping Killer doesn't start with one of you on the hook. He/she usually starts on the far side of the map from the Survivors. The Killer must cross the map, find a Survivor, chase them, down them (which for most is not an insta-down at the start of the game), and then transport them to a hook. On average this takes a competent Killer a little over a minute. It can take a Potato Killer (the kind that does the most camping) much longer. This means before even the first person gets squatted on by the toad, you have precious time to get those first 1-2 Generators up. The next step is important so pay attention.
    2. Even if all four of you start together next to a Generator, DO NOT all get on it. At the start of the game, the most Survivors that should work one Generator is TWO. The benefit you get to speed is a diminishing return. It is far better that two sets of Survivors get on two different Generators. It is even better that two Survivors work that closest 1st Generator and the other two each go find their own Generator to work. This maximizes efficiency and ensures that if/when the Killer finds the first Survivor, it doesn't disrupt the overall work. Using this method you should get between 1-2 Generators up before the Killer gets the 1st Hook. And if you newbie Survivors can stay focused, you might even get three. Remember, Potato Killers can take a lot longer than average.
    3. Let's move on. The first Survivor has been hooked. It becomes clear to you that the Killer is squatting (Face Camping). Write that Survivor off. Remember, I said this is a harsh lesson. This is a game of 4v1. You win as a group and it is generally accepted that a 1K is a loss for the Killer. Does this suck for the person on the hook? Yes. Should that person on the hook buy you as MUCH time as possible? YES! They should not disconnect. They should not attempt to get themselves off the hook. They should sit quietly on the hook until they go to Stage-2 and then dutifully struggle until they are sacrificed. Time is the most precious resource in this game. That valiant hero on the hook is buying you two minutes which is generally enough for the other three Survivors to grind out three more generators. Remember, that once that hooked hero dies, the Killer then has to start searching again, chasing again, hope to get someone down, and then get this newest victim to a hook. The math is not in the Killer's favor if the Survivors are smart, ruthless and disciplined.
    4. If the Survivors apply these steps the odds are very good you can hold the Killer to a 1K at best, and a 2K at worst. The next step is trickier. If you were way ahead, say you got three Generators before that first hook and know you are going to get the other two before the 1st sacrifice, it is often a good idea to 99% the last Generator. In short, don't finish it. Have it need just a touch. Why? NOED. This Perk is very popular with desperate, new Killers. It will come online when you finish the last Generator. If you are in a SWF, you communicate to your pals so that one of them is at each gate ready to start opening it immediately, rather than having to run there after you power the last generator. You want them to have maximum time to open the gates before the Killer can get to them. It also bears noting that having one person at both gates ensures that even if the Killer gets one of them, the other two people can get out. That is why worst case scenario is a draw (if you are disciplined).

Are there things that can go wrong? Sure. Might the Killer just get lucky? Absolutely. But if you apply these tactics every time you get a Face Camper at the start of a match, you will get reliable results. You just have to overcome your own potato-ness. So stop crouching around the map and hiding in lockers and at the perimeter. Time is precious; every second you are not on a Generator while a Face Camper is sitting on your friend is an insult to that player's sacrifice. That player is doing the tedious duty of holding up the Killer for two minutes so YOU can get out. Don't be a jerk and waste it.

Now, some Potato Killers (particularly as they start to learn over the course of a few matches) start freaking out when Generators start popping all over the place. They just might leave that poor, unfortunate soul. When that happens, adapt your strategy. ONE (and no more) of you that is closest should go make the rescue if you can do it SAFELY. The other two work Generators. If one of you doesn't have a Generator to work, you kill Totems. Don't waste time. That should always be your mantra. Every second you aren't doing "something" is ceding ground to the Killer. One of the most infuriating things for the poor person on the hook to see is a bunch of you rummaging through chests, self healing in the middle of nowhere, crouching around, and so on. I never get mad a Killer doing his/her job. I get mad at idiotic Survivors wasting my sacrifice on their behalf. Just don't let it tilt you. Do NOT disconnect or suicide on the hook. Remember that these Survivors (like a Potato Killer) just don't know any better. They can't learn if you don't buy them time to do so.

Last but not least, I know a bunch of you have had some rough experience. Do not forget that I also have been where you are now. Everyone playing this game has had to go through it. I know you want to rage against the machine, demand punishments, scream about "toxic" Killers and all that jazz. Some of you will want to argue with me and tell me I'm wrong, or that I am not showing enough empathy for your experience. That isn't true. I wouldn't waste all this time posting if I didn't want to help you. There are just some things you must learn to accept to get past the frustration of being camped, tunneled, slugged, or even hit with a Mori.

    1. Stop worrying about what other people are doing and focus on what you have power over. Focus on in-game solutions and always think about what you could do better. You aren't going to change other people by giving them salt, grief, etc. nor will you get the DEV to change the game by screaming here.
    2. Set long term goals for yourselves. Don't get angry and lose it over any particular match. Go into each game expecting to lose. Treat them all as a learning experience. In the old days, you always lost video games. They were built that way. You played until you died. Being good just created a situation where you could play for longer and longer periods of time as the game just got harder and harder. Games where you could reach the "end" were more the exception than the rule. You put in your quarter and you played until you died; if you were good (or the best) your high score would be there for all to see. People who played games from that era are less tilted by the game because that is our normal. You have to have realistic expectations. In time you will get good enough (both as Survivors and Killers) that you win most of your matches. Just be realistic, there are a lot of dues to pay and there is no way to shortcut. With that in mind, long term goals are healthy because you inch toward them with every match whether you win or lose. Otz has a great video on how not to get tilted. I suggest watching it.
    3. Always remind yourself, when playing Survivor, that the game is designed in such a way that you can only win as a GROUP by working in cooperation. This doesn't require being in a SWF but it does require practice. Eventually, you just know what to do. You min/max your activities. Face Campers are the easiest Killers to defeat for the Survivors as a GROUP. In a short time, you are going to miss those Squatters and be cursing those high mobility, methodical Killers that seem to always be right on top of you. You are going to miss the matches where the Generators exploded on around the map in golden light.

    Great post. However

1: It's been proven that if enough people scream about something the devs will cave in to their demands from time to time. Prime example is the Freddy nerf shortly after release. I still agree self improvement is the best method.

2: I remember the old days where video games were actually difficult. They made them that way because technology was limited. Therefore the games were very short. So they had to make them difficult so you didn't breeze through it. Only games like Darksouls and Bloodborne actually remind me of the difficulty of the old games.

No this is happening more frequent now. And yes im pissed off now because its ruined my experience of liking this game from a code of honor standpoint. Its whatever now.

From my experience. The overwhelming majority of killers who face camp/tunnel someone to death are inexperienced. There are situations where tunneling/camping are beneficial to your objective but there are just as many circumstances where it isn't. There's too many to list. My only advice is to suck it up and keep playing or play something else. Unfortunately your a survivor and there's plenty more of you to go around.

  • So 1 killer trolls you and that's reason to try hard every single match? I've faced a hacker Dwight and I don't play Nurse every time I que as killer.

  • @chieften333 said:

Or not, you could instead make base game protection for it. But BHVR doesn't want to move away from perks fixing the major issues, so it'll never happen

They tried a punishment for camping and the survivors abused it heavily.

    @HectorBrando said:

The punishment is there, just push gens, from first hook to death is 120 seconds, if someone gets facecamped and the other 3 keep working you can finish at least 3 gens and get some work on at least 1 or 2, even more if the gens were already at a decent progression %.

The problem as always is Solo queue since they cant comunicate the team cant punish the Killer for it, its not that there is no punishment for facecamping is that the most affected by it (Solo queuers) cant dish it out because they lack information.

This right here. It's one of the reasons why I always run kindred when I solo que. There is a counter for face camping already. The survivor community just isn't doing it.

  • I was a killer main but I pretty much haven't played for 10 months. This game is going to have to do something really impressive to get me to come back. Until then, I won't be helping your que times.

  • If you want to play the game I suggest playing on any other month besides when new content comes out. Once a new killer/survivor releases a lot of old players come back and play till they get bored again. That is a very bad time to play because lobbies are full of try hards.

  • @Mr_K said:

    Now Freddy is problematic.

I'll gladly take new freddy over old freddy that was bottom tier until Legion was introduced. I find it's much easier to take something strong and tone it down than trying to take something weak and make it viable.

  • Kindred to try to help with face campers. I say "try" because randoms might still stand around waiting for a face camper to leave.

    BT for making safe saves.

WGLF to cut down on the grind. Pairs nicely with BT

    An exhaustion perk for chases.

A medkit for self healing. I like to switch out something for Pharmacy to farm medkits. If I can't farm medkits I bring Inner Strength or SC because I don't trust randoms to heal me.

  • @Steel_Eyed said:

No one talks about the SWFs they beat easily. The problem seems to be, not people talking to each other, but killers playing against good players who make good plays.

The killer still has to play the game. The survivors still have to play the game. Talking to your friends does not make you better at looping or the killer worse at chases.

On PC you can see player’s friends list and see if they’re SWFing. They can be beaten and these threads are probably made by inexperienced players who shouldn’t be adjusting anything balanced related until they learn to play better as it is.

Talking to your friends gives you so much information that it makes a huge difference in your match. You can tell your friends

    Who the killer is

    Where they are at

    What perks they are running

If someone is being chased and where they are bringing the killer

    Where a lit totem is

    Gen locations and progress

If it's safe to make a rescue

If someone is going for a rescue to maximize gen repairs

Coordinating DS, BT, Adren, UB, body blocking to get even more use out of them

Headsets can negate some killers power completely. Such as trapper. Headsets do help you at looping because your friends can tell you if they used a pallet where your going. I've been in chases where I said "I'm heading to the shack" and a friend said "Don't go there, I used that pallet already". If a friend is nearby watching you they can inform you if the killer is walking backwards to mind game. In this game, if the killer and the survivors are playing optimally then the survivors are at an advantage because there are more of them. This game is designed and balanced around survivors making mistakes.

  • It's a strong killer add on. So I'm certain they will gut it eventually.

  • @MrsGhostface said:

That’s bad matchmaking, not SWF OP

    It's both

  • Keep your head on a swivel, run spine chill so you get a warning the killer is nearby and Sprint Burst encase they sneak up on you. SB usually lets you get far enough away that you can reach a pallet/vault before getting hit. If they get a sneaky hit on you that cuts the chase in half. If you make it to a pallet before the first hit that adds more time to the chase.

  • PvPs number one rule.

Your fun is at someone else's expense

  • @Moxie said:

The reason is the Devs are lazy. If you have ever experienced a bout of laziness, you will know that the longer you remain sedentary, the harder it is to spur yourself into action. There is no competition to the game, so they are simply required to do the bare minimum.

It was also revealed on a Dev stream they can basically "work when they want".

Multiple this problem by oh give or take 3 years and here we are.

I think Scouts last video said it all. If there was a real competitor this game would die over night. From browsing these forums I can tell there are a lot of people who are upset with the game and have been for awhile. If another game like this came out and it was well made+supported by whoever made it. There would be a mass exodus like when a new MMO comes out.

  • I think the only reason DBD has lasted this long is there is no real competition. It's like when a new MMO comes out. There's usually an exodus of players moving to the newer game because they are bored of the old one.

  • @konchok said:

I think the topic should be rephrased. Rather than what killers camp the most, it should be which killers have powers that promote camping, and how do they rank.

    1. Hag - if you're not putting a trap near the hook you're playing her wrong
    2. Twins - if you're not putting charlotte next to a hook or slugged survivor you're playing them wrong
    3. Bubba - If you're not taking advantage of situations where multiple survivors are together, such as when they're healing under hook or unhooking you're playing Bubba sub-optimally. Many Bubbas don't play this way, but it's mostly to avoid his soiled reputation rather than them playing optimally.
    4. Trapper - Trappers will generally trap loops, but really they'll trap anything they can take advantage of. If you're in the basement that basement is going on lock-down
    5. Billy - An insta-down ability means that if you can find survivors in a compromised position you can one down them, and then slug as many as possible, maybe even get a 4k right then and there. What more compromising situation is there then when you're trying to save a hooked survivor.

    4. Your damn right! /kefka laugh

  • Personally the tokens carrying over feels less like a buff and more like lubricant. The devs knew we were going to be sore when they took away our best slow down perks.

Deep down, everyone knows the truth (that slugging, tunneling and camping are legitimate strategies in a variety of situations), it all just comes down to emotions (which many have 0 control over) in situations where a person got beat, so they're upset and need something to blame - bring forth to the stage that no-skill, tunneling POS Killer and his douchebag friends, Camper and Slugger!

It goes both ways as well, obviously.

Thats why I don't understand all these threads about people complaining about tunneling/camping/slugging. If they put themselves in the killers position I think a lot of us would do the same thing if it was in our best interest.

This is a great video that explains how the killer may not be tunneling so much as there's no one else to go after. So it's a waste of time to let that unhooked person go. It also highlights situations where tunneling/slugging/camping are actually the best option for the killer and not something that is just to be toxic.

LMAO I have those games where I get 8 hooks and no kills or 9 hooks and 1 kill. i would have won with ruin/undying or if I cared enough to target a survivor at 1 or 2 gens remaining.

8 hooks and no kills. I love how that's how the devs want us to play. Hook everyone 3 times. The way gens are completed and against decent survivors, that is literally impossible without tunneling or the survivors screwing up.

  • @Altarf said:

To be fair, Quick scoping is complete bs and the reason I put the game down after mw2. Come on man you're running around with a sniper 1shot everyone at various ranges. GTFO lol

When I say I was a sniper I mean I was laying on my belly in a grassy knoll and shooting people across the map. I didn't do that quick scoping barret crap. I even used the M21 EBR(semi auto rifle). I actually played "like a sniper" in CoD. Ever since MW2 maps have been made smaller and smaller, more obstructions are in the way and people with fully auto AR's can accurately hit you from across the map. Hence why I stopped because the game hated snipers.

If they were to ever take out aim assist from CoD. SOOOOOOOOOO many people would suddenly suck at the game if they had to actually aim.

  • I have a terrible feeling the new MMR isn't going to change a thing. If a group of R1 survivors are waiting long enough, the MM will just toss the first killer available. Fairness be damned.

  • @Killing_Time said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1867346#Comment_1867346

This is exactly why I went on hiatus playing battlefield. If you play with complete randoms, it's hell man lol.

It's one of the reasons I stopped playing CoD. That and it felt like the game punished snipers. After MW2 I felt I was handicapping myself if I wasn't running around with a fully auto weapon with a fast snap to aim.

  • Are you sure the problem is you lost your touch and not the devs screwed with her hit box? They did that once before and it was so bad they actually reverted it. You know it was a screw up if they undo it. Wouldn't be the first time they changed something and magically left it out of the patch notes.

  • Let's do to keys what they did to moris. Make the requirements so high that it's pointless to bring them.

Example. Keys can only be used when all 5 gens are done and the exit gates are open :P

  • I said this in a similar thread and I'll say it again.

You know when you play CoD solo. You join a room. Your team is made up of randoms and the entire other team is in a clan? You know you are at a disadvantage and it's going to be an uphill battle. That's what it feels like to play killer most of the time. I'm not just talking against a swf. If the survivors are solo but have brains it can get very frustrating. Even if you are a skilled killer, unless the survivors make a mistake or are goofing off, the odds are stacked against killer because it's 4v1. Many find killer frustrating and would rather play something else. Unless the devs find a way to make killer enjoyable, the que times won't improve.
