They're already testing DC penalties so that line is already there, you just missed it
I didn't miss anything bud. This penalties did not exist for prior nerfs and my point still stands that sore losers shouldn't determine who is buffed or nerfed.

The first big Legion update did not significantly alter their killrate. It did, however, lower the DC rate against them by 40%. So I remain unconvinced that it was a nerf.
I understand nerfs need to happen, but doesn't there need to be some line in the sand where survivors need to grow up and not DC if they don't get their way?

A bad study that takes a long time is still a bad study. It does not become more valid because you do it wrong for a year.
I'm also not going to hold Behavior to medical study standards, since the FDA barely holds medical companies to those 😛
My point wasn't about whether this study is good or bad. My whole point is more data taken over time is better than data taken in a short time period. That's statistics 101. The medical example was just a method to explain this point.

That's not even remotely the same thing lol
Enlighten me then instead of calling me out. I was just using one example to make a broad point. I'll continue with that example to keep it simple. If I did a study on a smoker's lungs after 1 month of cigarette use, I might not see any drastic changes. But what if I looked at their lungs after 2 months? 2 years? Then 2 decades? I would finally see that damage was done. Same goes for any statistical study. Longevity matters.

howdy! sorry to rain on your parade, but this game isn't a competitive game at all. it was forced to be due to how the community sees and takes it.
dead by daylight is an asymmetrical 1v4 game, and it was originally ruled as a casual party game on various sources until people started taking it way too seriously, and that it was eventually advertised as competitive. only once, however, though i do not recall where.
but my main point is that because dead by daylight is as asymmetrical as it is, it cannot be competitive, hence why it was originally made for casual play.
I don't see how people can make this argument. Just because the teams are not balanced player wise does not mean it's not a competition. Games by their nature have a winner and a loser. This means people have to compete to win. Even if it was 100 vs 1 it would still be a competition between the two sides, regardless if all players are friends or not.
In other words, my parade remains quite dry under my umbrella of logic.

That's uhh not how that works at all. Length of study doesn't correlate with validity of study. He could just take the data from the month before the changes and the month after and he'd probably see something similar (unless you believe that there are significant outliers in the 3 months or for this month that are skewing the data).
One month of data is plenty of time to draw conclusions. It's not like legion changed radically.
Length of study is absolutely important to the validity of most studies. Thank goodness the medical industry didn't take your opinion of statistics into account when studying the effects on smoking.

Who would want to play killer when they are constantly nerfed? Legion, spirit, nurse...who next?

The Queue's are horrible! I 100% agree. The rift/Tome is just more useless crap to grind for in a game that is already super grindy. What I feel we need is new modes! Something to break up the monotony. We have 74 perks for survivor and 67 (I think) for killer, yet we can still only use 4 of them at a time. I'm not really sure we need more perks, more survivors and more "unique" killers, more than we just need a different game type. It's been the same thing for 3.5 years. Personally, I'd love to see killer in 3rd person. Just about anything other than the same old, start 5 gens, open a door and leave.
I actually think it would be cooler to have survivor in first person. It might put some scare factor back into it when you can only look a bit to each side when repairing a gen.

I think they were trying to make it so pools of players of similar skill levels would be kept together during the rank reset to be fairer and improve matchmaking quality.
Previously, everyone would be set back many ranks, resulting in players of rank-1-skill being set back to rank 20 and subsequently matched with new players. This was a frustrating experience for both new and old players and so rank reset was changed.
Now rank reset doesn't feel as unfair towards new players because skilled and high-rank players are kept towards the higher end of the ranks after reset.
It confuses me because if people end up in the same pools of players they started with, why reset at all? I get that it does lessen the chances of new players playing with experienced ones which is good.

Differences between abilities. Legion is more "i see you and will run you down", while wraith and spirit are kind of tracker/hunter types. Think of it more as legion is just tunnel visioning.
I see your overall point. I'm just thinking from a fairness standpoint, which is what I saw as the reasoning behind the recent Legion nerf.

@ravekid said:
Yes they did a good job on Freddy and then Oni is a balanced killer. It's fun to play against, at least for me.
Nerfing add-ons more pls! Most of the killers are fine, like Myers, BUT that unlimited add-on ruins the gameplay filing. Unlimited? Seriously? Maybe double the duration of evil with in III, but not unlimited.
And the insta down hatchets for huntress... another totally broken add-on. Maybe allow to insta down every survivor once/trial, but not the whole duration of the match.
+After nerfin insta heal to the ground, they should change its colour to purple and the cost reduced to 6k from7k.
So just little tiny changes, which will give the filing that they actually cares about their consumers.
So to sum up your point: nerf killers and buff survivors because you can't accept who is supposed to have the power role? Iridescent heads has a huge drawback (carry 1 hatchet). Add Freddy to the list of killers nerfed this holiday season. Merry Christmas survivor mains.
-
@rch614 said:
The game is far more balanced than it ever has been in the past. Survivors are solid. Killers are solid. Killers run slowdown perks because gens get done far too quickly when survivors focus their objective and lead decent chases.
Thanatphobia? Heal.
Ruin? Find the totem or land skill checks.
Lightborn...?
Balanced Landing nerf was overkill, I agree, but it's still a good perk.
And needles needed to be nerfed. It's only a matter of time before a few killer addons and moris / keys finally get looked at as well.
Both sides need to stop trying to take things away from the other purely out of salt. It's always an "us vs them" mentality and Behavior of course is stuck in the middle. But I think they are, unironically, doing a pretty good job, with a few outliers.
Agree 100% everyone (especially survivors imo) complain everything needs a buff. Cleanse the bones or hit the skill checks.

We shouldn't go off of ranking/pipping. Legion, one of the worst killers, is incredibly easy to rank with die to the nature of their power. You could probably have 3, maybe even 4 survivors escape, and still pip or probably even double pip. Does this mean Legion is a good killer by any means? Hell no! Again, by this logic, Hillbilly, Ghostface, and every instadown killer would be terrible, because they are very hard to pip with, again, because of the nature of their power.
Sorry, I'm not buying it man. No chance you pip with 3 escapes. Best case scenario with legion and 3 escapes is a black pip.

@KnifeaToMeetYaXD said:
The cooldown 100%. The 4 second penalty with terrible addons for lowering it is ridiculous. Not to mention missing an attack is penalizing as hell. Lower CD to 3 seconds and then reduce FF cooldown by .5 seconds for each new survivor hit. This rewards Legion for efficiently using his power, allowing him to injure all and get a potentially quick down to keep up pressure. This also frees up the Cooldown addons for Legion and could allow them to be replaced with something like FF movement speed.
I really like this idea

It's lovely that free hits from accidentally bumping into a survivor are gone, but the key points that make Spirit a miserable experience have really not been addressed by her changes. Namely:
There is 0 feedback to her power. You cannot make any form of informed or reactionary decision against the Spirit's power. You can know she's phasing, and your options are "completely guess where she is and hope I don't go down from a hit launched while invisible." That isn't fun. There's no skill to going against an opponent that has a massive amount of information as to your precise location, and all you know is "she's right up my ass."
Which brings us to the other big issue, sound. If you don't have Iron Will, you're #########. If you do have Iron Will, she has Stridor and you're ######### anyway. It's impossible to play around giving your exact location to her constantly. You can try all the backtracking and walking and avoiding grass patches all you like, but when your character keeps shouting "I'm right here!" it's pointless, and it sucks to play. At the very least, Iron Will should finally be changed to trump Stridor. If you're burning a perk JUST to not make injured grunts, there's no reason a perk that makes everyone louder and easier to find should ALSO be the one that trumps silence in the injured condition. It really doesn't feel great when the only somewhat reliable counterplay to a killer's power is 100% negated by their perk.
Did you ever stop to think it should be hard to tell what the killer is going to do? Each killer is supposed to keep survivors on their toes with different styles and you are upset cause spirit is actually capable of it.

Honestly, what they could do is just redefine basic attack to: Any attack where the killer uses their main weapon.
then in each perk description have the words "Basic attack" in bold, and have a pop up on the side defining what that term means. Kinda like how a card game would define keywords such as taunt or haste.
They could, it's not a bad idea. I think some perks need to work with the main weapon though cause huntress is the only one that comes to mind with two weapons.

If you fanatical legion main, you will still play on him because he's so good right now. Power doesn't help in chases? Really? With new speed healing is so stupid against legion, like cleansing against plague in early game. Especially against self-care gamers. Survivors always injured, and that's how it helps in chases. This "buff" is reverted nerf? Well, you want from Bhvr to revert release nerf? You want to play old legion? I no, and no one wants it. Legion power now really good. With new speed he really make map pressure and everyone injuring, really helps in chases and founding survivors. Legion power is not mending. Mending is something like mangled effect, it's just little bit slowing healing. Legion power is injuring survivors and making map pressure
What pressure can you add when you are busy eating a 4 second stun with no scratch marks or blood to pick up the trail with when you finally do injure a survivor. Real great 🙄
-
Will the legion ever see his stun reduced or deep wounds changed to the point where they are fun to play with or against? Not trying to sound sarcastic with the question, I just feel something needs to change.

no click bait :P
Ok, just a bit of setting: I'm currently a rank 2 killer (ps4), I play a lot of Legion and was really unhappy on some of the changes before the patch went live. Now that I played 10+ games I think I can try to summarise how really the new Legion feels.
The awesome
Vaulting speed.
The change in vaulting speed is so important, it cannot be understated. After the first big nerf to Legion they felt so sluggish and unarmed against good loopers, but now a survivor vaulting a window or a pallet gets itself in a very bad position, especially if they try to juke you. Very, very good.
The good
Feral Frenzy speed and the new pin add-ons.
The speed improvement is noticeable, even if not that groundbreaking as the vaulting speed is you can still create some new interesting plays, like blocking vaults or paths with much more ease.
The new pin add-ons mechanics are probably taking the spot though. Now there's a feeling to accomplish something other than simply injuring other survivors every time you chain a deep wound, and even if the debuff applied to survivors is only for 60 seconds, it can be important, especially against swf groups which would heal each other almost instantaneously. For now I'm just using the pin which applies the broken status effect, but depending on your builds others can work as well.
The bad (?)
Here's the thing: do you play a slow down Legion? If so, you will be really unhappy about the decreased mending time and the FF hits not applying any debuffs without add-ons. Forget about a Sloppy Butcher build with knife add-ons, it just won't work.
If instead you weren't relying on slow down builds, but you wanted an active one, maybe by using my sweetheart Save The Best For Last (STBFL)... you're in for a very good surprise.
Yes, STBFL tokens cannot be collected during feral frenzy, but also the opposite is true: you can't lose them.
What this means is that once you gain at least 4 tokens, which is not that difficult, your basic hits will start flowing very quickly, but you don't need to lose 4 tokens to down the obsession anymore.
Once you see her, use your FF for the first hit, and you'll preserve your stacks. By doing so you could even find someone else nearby you didn't notice, and actually saving the best for last :P - either way, you'll gain something from the situation.
Trust me: it's slightly slower to gain momentum with your tokens, but it's very easier to maintain them - especially because you can hit anyone in FF without second thoughts.
What about mending time, though? Well, there's an unexpected outcome coming from the quicker mending time - since a lot of survivors will (wrongly) mend as soon as you go in search of their team mates, chances are that eventually you'll see their red heart beat before FF runs out. Now what you can do is to apply your pin effect even to the original survivor, or in any case you'll have an idea on where an injured survivor is located.
I won't go so far to say that this is a buff - it still is a nerf because of the implications regarding slow down builds, but you can work around it and make it work anyway.
Conclusions
Is Legion fun to play? Yes, much more than before, a lot thanks to vaulting speed and the new pins.
Is Legion a viable killer on high rank? Well, it's not Spirit, but as I said, I'm rank 2 and play mainly Legion this season, so by definition I should say yes to this as well.
Should Legion be changed from here? I think some of their add-ons are borderline useless, and the FF ending stun is still slightly too long - I would take away between 0.2 and 0.5 seconds from it, just to see how it goes.
But mostly, should @UlvenDagoth reinstall the game and try Legion out? Yes of course :P.
While I respect your analysis, I have to disagree. I think the cases where you are able to get FF rolling are few and far between and deep wounds is pretty much useless. I loved slow down legion and he's gone now leaving a fast, but ultimately weak killer.

Just want to chime in here to say that as someone who game tested on a AAA title at one of the big three console makers, I doubt many people here actually understand the man hours and resources that go into making a game. Bug testing alone, even at the lowest level, is thousands per day, even with a small team, before you even add in administrative costs. And that's only one small department.
Furthermore, every company has varying skill sets and available resources. Not every painter is Van Gogh, but people should still be appreciated for the work and skill they put into their craft, even if they fall short. If I had to face the deluge of entitlement trash talk that happens to game developers about something I loved and worked hard at, I wouldn't be long for this world.
Please stop living your life through the game. Be respectful, critique, and if you are that unhappy, have the decency to move on. Or, if you're passionate, work towards becoming a game dev and being the change you want to see.
No one, and I mean NO ONE, has to sit and and take being ground into the dirt the way they are being here, or anywhere else in life for that matter.
So people should not be upset when they are ignored? Part of the reasons forums exist and PTB are done is for feedback. When that feedback is ignored it stings. I'm also glad you can scoff at 8 dollars and spend it on DDR.

Okay cool. Then let's try and see if we can both get around this.
The Deep wound change made any and all stalling for Legion basically useless. They can run across map with no issue, work on a gen for a moment, then mend. Or they can just instantly start mending after being hit and even if the Legion stops and eats that stun, they can just run away with no penalty while Legion looks at there hands for 4 seconds. It would have been better to NOT lower mending times if this change was gonna be made, or revert the changes at least but no. We both have 8-12 seconds of "Stall" with RUNNING pausing the timer. Add to that Legion can't see Scratch Marks in FF or even blood, loses 50% of there power on a m1 hit, and lost all of there perks synergies with Feral Frenzy (Which removed EVEN MORE "STALL") and you have a Kilelr who's power is literally more punishing to use then not use.
It's like the killer wants the survivor to get away, pairing a missed hit with 4 seconds of blindness, and no track marks. The stun is honestly the worst part for me (though the lack of sloppy butcher is a close second).

Ok, so just a few things to point out. 60+mend+heal seconds of full thano is pretty good, and clown's addon does mangled for 2 minutes. Mend time isnt the issue here, you do not need to stab another survivor when they are broken, so no point getting a streak more than that. I know technically it is worse than plague, but legion has a way to traverse the map quicker and can gather intel when needed. If the survivors smack me with pallets while I get a hit or not, I will be more than happy because that is a pallet wasted, do you not? And I like it when every survivors are forced to be injured while they have wasted pallets trying to knock me out of my power, should be a piece of cake chasing them up except for some windows. I mean, I feel like he is relying on his pins heavily at the moment, but it is pretty good, almost exhaustion clown level I would say. It might just be my perk setups that helps me get multi stabs, and it might even be the meta soon. All I am saying is, I don't think this change is as bad as everyone thinks, maybe play a few more games with it and experiment with it, it's kind of too early to say anything at this moment, not even two days after the change.
A killer should not be add on dependent. And good luck getting full thana stacks on a map like coldwind farm. It's doable but not often. The overall speed boost is so small compared to what was lost, especially considering the large penalty for missing.

In the case of Legion changes, I don't know who's in the minority and who's in the majority. From what I've seen, it seems pretty split, but I intentionally haven't involved myself in that particular discussion because I don't feel that I'm well-informed enough to form an educated opinion, and I'm not going to start now.
My comment was specifically challenging the notion that the way the developers handle community feedback in general is in any way comparable to racial discrimination, nothing more than that.
I see. The race argument was a large stretch, but the point about ignoring a minority opinion were spot on by the other poster.

We are talking strictly about a killer whose power is completely and utterly broken. There is no way for them to craft a power that checks all your little boxes without pissing someone off. You know that phrase "you can't please everyone"? It exists for a reason. THAT is the point.
You keep missing the point chief. No one expects a perfect killer. But people expect that when they pay for a game and extra content, the least they should get in return is transparency. That's the issue here. The ridiculous nerf to legion is just icing on the cake.
-
@Fibijean said:

No one is saying that minority voices aren't important. If the minority voices were being ignored, it wouldn't be a majority vote, it would be a unanimous one. All anyone is saying is that it makes sense for the developers to listen to the opinions of the majority over those of the minority when trying to gauge the general community response to a change.
But if the majority doesn't care about legion one way or the other, why not help the minority that paid to have a viable killer?
-
@DeadByGayDwight said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/892644#Comment_892644
Devs rarely pay attention to the minority. They pay attention to numbers. The majority always outweighs the minority in any business, because it's better for the game's overall health. If they upset the larger subset of people, that's more backlash, more people quitting, more negative reviews, which all impact income, potential sponsorships, DLC agreements with other companies, etc. They HAVE to listen to the majority or else their numbers will take a serious dive. It's unfair, but it's a business.
But what happens when a minority is ignored for too long? They leave. Then a new minority is formed, and once they are ignored, they leave too. It is possible to help a minority of players while keeping the majority in mind; the two are not mutually exclusive.

That right there would be a non sequitur. Just because one system is not so friendly to new players at the moment doesn't mean that we don't care about new players when we try to make something else more intuitive. What we're aiming to eliminate is the question of, "Does X work with Y?" Like the example given, why does Sloppy Butcher work with Frenzy while NOED does not? Both activate on basic attacks, so why are they different? Having each power work on a case by case basis would mean you'd either have to look it up or test it out for each killer.
To me though this is one of the great things about games: experiments and finding out for yourself what works. Games shouldn't spoon feed new players. Let people learn from trying things like a stab in FF during EGC with NOED. It's boring when every killer becomes an M1 slouch.

I don’t think they’re talking about survivors complaining about the killer being op like the spirit. I mean they did in the past for Legion but not one survivor complains now.
Correct. I'm inclined to believe the nerfs are made out of spite because the people on here can be ride to the devs unnecessarily. But what other conclusion can there be when countless times people asked for the legion to be buffed or at least left alone, and the feed back was ignored. It's like complaining that your order at a restaurant is messed up and they spit in it to keep you in line.

I'm with you. I can't think of another example of when the community and devs were so far apart, not just for this game, but games in general. Same, I picked up Franklin's from the shrine last week. But, I decided to pick him up for the switch so I'd have the same content as I do on my Xbox account. Plus, he's only $2.50 with the Black Friday sale.
On a separate note, it says he's "coming soon," yet I was able to buy him, have him in my roster and can level him up, sooo.....?
Good point about the sale, but like I stated elsewhere, I'm not buying anything else till legion is addressed.

Exactly, I played against a Demo today that just sat on some poor rank 16 dude. I know the strategy is to do gens in this time, but I can see why it discourages new players.
