Yeah without a doubt, pound for pound a killer is higher skilled than a survivor of equivalent rank. Which I guess is how it needs to be considering it's a 4v1.
But it is also why versing survivors a few ranks above you is not really a big deal. And I said a few, not 10.
Also they made it harder to rank up as killer as opposed to survivor, dont know why they didn't revert it when the did the survivors pip conditions.

This game has gotten really stale for killers at red ranks post ruin nerf.. roll your eyes all you want, it's truth. If I want to try interesting builds that deviate from the 6-7 "meta" perks for killers, gens fly and it's generally a miserable experience. You will of course have some wins, but more often than not, Brutal Killer/Displeased is your result.
Survivors can run meme or thematic builds all day long because they have 3 other people to carry them. If i want to run an all hex build, stealth, or perma injure build.. it might work a quarter of the time. Injured people at high ranks just split up and sit on gens so it doesn't really matter.. plus they get dead hard constantly.
I realize X killer may have Y build that works for them, that only proves that you're being pigeonholed. "If you want to use this killer, here are the perks that actually work".
I am essentially locked into using the same build for every killer unless I want 3 chases and the game to be over in 5 mins. Boring.
BBQ / Corrupt / Pop / Discordance /// Nurses / Monitor
"THEN JUST SLUG" - no thanks that's not fun
"DONT WORRY ABOUT RANK" -- maybe I don't like seeing "Entity Displeased" every game when I try experimenting
"PLAY ANOTHER GAME THEN" - i have been thanks
Sure would be nice to be able to run interesting builds without being absolutely punished by the game.
I feel you here. It is constantly the same builds, same few killers, same basic strategies.
I keep asking on these forums and very few killers have responded. But could we accept less kills if we could still pip by winning chases, getting hooks and protecting gennys?
It may allow us to try different killers and builds and not feel bad by depipping.

I'm one of the few killers on this forum who constantly trails against the camping and tunneling mechanics as it has a huge negative impact on the game. That said, once gens are done, all bets are off. If a killer face camps me after gens are done, I don't blame them. At this point it is the killers role to guarantee this one dies. The survivor decides whether to leave or try to be a hero.
Anyone complaining about camping after gens are done is disingenuous at best, or just whiney.
I have to agree here. I also try to promote a more fun playstyle, while respecting each person's right to play how they want.
But when the gates are open , do what you want. I'll take one for the team if I was on hook and stop struggling so they have no reason to stay.

hit and run.
make 3 gens if possible.
you can't win if you chased.
you would never faster than gens time so you need to 3gens.
Well you will need to win some chases to get at least a gold emblem there.
If you play all hit and run you will lose points for each time a survivor heals, which could happen a lot if you're just guarding 3 gennys.
Also if you hook a survivor within proximity of those 3 gennys and you are close, you could be losing points there as well.
Gatekeeper has gotten a little better for killers, but if you let 4 gennys fly bye why you guard your 3, you could lose points there as well.

SO WHAT?
most of them i don't get pip
What is your playstyle that your not pipping. Do you camp a bunch?
Other than that I see a lot of 3k games there.
-
The strategies have certainly changed. I think many killers feel there isn't enough time to do chases and guard gennys.
I have seen a huge rise in these tactics as well the use of these noed. Unfortunately too many survivors reward these tactics by rushing hooks or not doing gennys.
I suggest get a swf that will pound gennys while you hang. And get 3 out for the win. And hopefully it won't always be you taking one for the team
-
Damn ebony on spirit? Ok.
Probably a swf, we are like skittles in our swf!
-
If you got hit with DS weren't already tunneling?
I know there are rare occasions when you hit someone 58 seconds later a get hit with it, but that is rare.
I used to never run it, and still rarely. But if I have those 4 tunneling killers in a row, well I'm putting it on, then going loop you right out the doors!
-
What was done to be toxic, if we can ask, you weren't really clear there.
As for me I don't know what I see as toxic. I don't care about tbags, not a fan of flashlights after every pallet, or when someone finishes a genny right in your face even after taking a hit.
But I just play as I normally would and send them ggs after I kill em.

I thoroughly enjoy Rank 16 and 15.

Is smurfing really a thing in dbd? I mean you'd have to buy the game twice.
Also, I did not post this in order to complain in the name of the guy who sent me this. I just thought it was peculiar that high ranks would still use Urban Evasion.

And this... i don't even know where you saw something deomonising there
Are people just too quick to assume an aggressive stance once they see the slightest hint of complaint against the other faction?
Again, this is no salty anti SWF thread. Since apparently some people don't read stuff properly I added some explicit statement in the original post.
Smurfing is prevalent on console. Easy to do on ps4.
Yeah, I dont know why people are running urban tho.. seems weird.

Liked? No. Especially when there are always going to be certain elements within the community that bring down the reputation of others.
Pig is a perfect example. Complete fools will tunnel out trapped survivors. These players give the rest a bad name, worse still is that this bad choice of playstyle is actually rewarded.
I've had people message me and say how nice it was to play against my Pig since I don't tunnel in the slightest, and I don't because I can sympathise with survivors, and it's not an optimal way to play.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1181674#Comment_1181674
And it's not that Piggy needs a rework, but her ADD-ONS do. Her power needs some small QoL buffa and changes. Faster crouch walking, moving the roar back to the start of the dash, maybe making her TR 28m again, activating traps during EGC.........
I would love to meet this piggy! So many just straight tunnel! Drives me crazy, like why even give me the party hat if your just going tunnel?

Yeah people need to play both sides more to gain some empathy for the other side.
Balance is subjective, killers want a game with kills and survivors want to escape. Their opposed goals make it hard to see it as balanced if the other side achieves their goals.
I guess the best way is to make maps a bit smaller, but ofcourse then spirit, nurse, freddy become op, while clown my now become just viable.
They have to switch the emblem system for killers, allowing pips based on hooks , chases, gens protected, and not kills. At least then one could rank up, without sweating over kills, and maybe still see it as a win.

Where do you get that information from? I do not speak for me, I follow many twitch channels and I see that the gen rush is massive and that in most games at least 3 survivors escape. It is correct, you have to kill 4 people, but you need to do 12 hangs to kill 4 survivors, the survivors only 5 engines that can be completed in less than 4 minutes.
What twitch channel do you watch?
Watch @Fungoose , and see 4ks every game, dude is good and will make you a better killer.

You can have keys when you get rid of ebony moris. Both can suck to play against. And keys can counter Mori.

6 out of 10 games, ebony mori. And almost every game noed.
Like why the moris? Was it mori night and no one told me? Is it me or do we see an increase in moris during these extra blood point events? You know you get more points hooking every 3x, right?

All I'm saying is if perks like Borrowed Time, Ruin, Decisive Strike, Exhaustion (which ik isn't a perk but revoery), Flashlights, Toolboxes, Ruin get addressed because "a high amount of users are playing with that perk" do the same for Deathslinger. Either given him a steady terror radius in chase that can't be lowered when he raises sights OR increase his terror radius where he can't shoot outside of it but an insane amount or at all.

I understand . I was pointing out how perks being used to get a desired effect ,that stack, were recently nerfed by the devs.

BBQ and Chili is completely out of hand and overpowered. I am going endless waves of matches against killers ALL of whom take it. THEN, survivors getting lucky if we even get ONE generator down.
The reading aura portion of the perk is absurd and should be removed. The aura reading after a hook creates a snow ball effect for the next hook, eventually leading to a win for the killer.
It is also completely unaballanced. One perk should not instantly lead to 4 kills and zero generators.
Yeah.. what is your perk loadout? I am guessing you're running slippery meat!

In those clips, the killer is using M&A and Whiskey, which both reduce his terror radius. His terror radius is not broken, it's working exactly as it should when you stack perks and add-ons that reduce your terror radius.
Kind of like when one would stack gen slow down perks?

@zakazan that is ofcourse the question. That displeased is just a bummer to see . Would people be happier if you could be a red rank killer averaging 1k?
Playing to win chases and 3 hooking every survivor to get a kill? And being rewarded for it with pips?
-
We can't expect all killers to be equal. They have different powers, as such some are going to be inherently weaker than others.
Try playing for your own win conditions and maybe ignore the entity's opinion. Or maybe map offerings for when you play weaker killers.

But that's the thing, the devs have stated, instead of saying they want killers to hook players 6 times, they want, on average, a 2k. The emphasis on killer is to kill and many killer perks are designed to do that.
The point of a ranking system is to encourage players to play the way you want them to play, the devs set the objective. The problem here is that the devs have emphasized kills over chases and hooks. This leads to confusion and frustration among the playerbase. The design of killers also implies that killing is their main objective.
I agree. We as killers have been conditioned by the system to see 4ks as a win. It is hard to accept 2ks as a win or tie even
But then you get to the end and lose a pip. So it's like, well next time I'm going to play super sweaty. They have created this divide between sides by making objectives so opposed.
I wonder tho, could killers accept more pips, higher ranks, but less kills if system was changed to reward you more for hooking, protecting gennys, being away from hooks?
Or would we always want that 4k?
-
The emblem system is set up to promote a game style of hooking and chasing survivors. Not necessarily getting 4ks.
Like in the picture above. You have 3ks but only 19000 points. I'm not sure if they suicided on hook or not but that is a rather low score for a 3k game.
I know for killer it sux. But it is similar to survivor at times. Complete all the gennys and get out and you may depip. They want interaction between to two sides. They want hook actions over and over again.
You either play for pips, hence altering playstyle a bit. Or you play for you're own conditions, quick kills or escapes, and f the emblem system.

Lol I am a purple rank killer who constantly faces red ranks. And I've never tunneled or camped and still get mostly 3k games. I've even made the majority of the friends I play with as their killer because I killed them but I was FAIR and not an as hole about it. I didnt tunnel, I didnt camp. I didnt even mori off 1st hook. And they've told me how much they respect me as a killer. Some people are just trash and only like to ruin the survivors experience or just suck and only know how to get kills by camping and tunneling. Maybe one day the devs will punish those strats more. I'm glad camping makes you lose emblem points and moris give you less points. It's how it should be.
I can certainly support this playstyle. I also try to play as fair as possible. But surely you as a higher rank killer can understand when and why these tactics are used from time to time.
Also what killers do you use where you never have to tunnel. Are you playing Clown in red ranks or the big four?
I have stated before that you can maintain purple ranks playing by the " survivor rulebook" which I also try to do.
However maintaining red ranks, specifically 1to3 may require a bit less fun tactics.
-
I feel for you. I wont play in anything less than a 3 man. Soloing if frustrating as hell.
On the flip side we always take good care of our randoms. We know a good teammate is the difference between a win and a loss. And we will sacrifice 1 of us for you at the end game if you were part of the reason we got the doors open. Just don't farm us.

Both sides seem to feel like they’re on a time crunch now and they play like it, it sucks. After the Self Care nerf, the no heal meta was inevitable - otherwise you spend so much time healing against killers that can so easily injure you again in a second, like Legion. And after the Ruin nerf, the slugging meta was just as inevitable since coordinated survivors can do gens so fast.
Survivors feel like they don’t have time to heal, and killers feel like they don’t have time to hook, reducing the fun for both sides.
Well said!
-
I think a lot has changed as the game evolved. Specifically the no heal meta. It used to be hit someone and if they got away they would go heal. Gens weren't a constant threat.
You had time to chase, could be more lenient on tunneling, play a bit less sweaty.
Then the ruin nerf combined with no heal meta and every second began to count.
I agree. There was a time when killers took pride in hitting red ranks playing under the "survivor rule book". But that luxury in time is hard to find anymore and has created this sweat fest, which increased the use of unfun tactics.

I wouldn't say DS is unbalanced, just the timer being 60 seconds with no way to de-activate it is just ripe for abuse. As long as it de-activated when I hooked someone else I would say it's a fine perk.
I respectfully disagree with you on NOED, and I will explain why.
Now full disclosure I don't run NOED personally as I don't want to be down one perk down for 90% of the game, but NOED is not a reward for failure, it is a punishment for survivors not doing secondary objectives (totems) and rushing generators instead. The only reason you're seeing so much more NOED now is because simply put, with the destruction of old Hex: Ruin two things have happened simultaneously.
- Generator completion rates skyrocketed, with 1-2 generators popping in the first 1-2 minutes commonly, even against red rank killers.
- Survivors have all but abandoned looking for totems outright, as Hex: Ruin was really the only hex perk capable of forcing them to do so. Devour Hope is only looked for once you have three tokens, Third Seal is an annoyance at best, Huntress Lullaby no one runs except maybe a Doctor or a baby huntress with nothing else, and really with Haunted Ground and Retribution survivors have almost been conditioned to stay away from totems unless it is impeding them directly.
Due to this change, killers who were reliant on old Hex: Ruin, in other words most killers in purple and green ranks as well as certain killers with setup time at high ranks, have substituted their previous early game power spike for a late game power spike in NOED. Killers with setup time like Trapper and Hag lost one of their major tools for slowing down the early game to get their trap networks setup and corrupt intervention is a poor substitute. Many of these killers were used to running down one perk anyway after Ruin was inevitably found and cleansed. The misconception many survivors had was that killers did not expect Ruin to remain up all game, we only wanted it for the first 1-2 mins. Now those 1-2 mins usually involve 1-2 generators popping because survivors have no secondary objectives.
Look, previous to the Hex: Ruin change I would have agreed that anyone running NOED was usually a noob or someone who wasn't very good, but for many killers they have just substituted an early game advantage for a late game advantage.
In the words of trapper "Maybe you do bones next time".
I would agree if noed was originally a hex perk. But it wasn't, hence that was not its intention.
Thank you for the well thought out discussion!

If you want to play this card borrow time reward you for doing a bad play unless unhooking in front of the killer is a good move and desicive strike reward you for not knowing how to loop self care reward you for getting hit etc... So now a killer cant counter adrenaline unless he kill all 4 of them before they finish the last gen while you can just do 5 totem as a team and you just beat noed while the killer cant do that
Hey I hear you on this. And agree BT is a wasted slot most time. Effective against end game camping when I cant fault a killer anyway.
DS is unbalanced in my opinion and I won't defend that.
But I will always see noed as a reward for failure to kill all survivors before gennys got done.
To choose to run this perk, survivors most be consistently powering the gates on them. However consistently completing gennys would be a reason to run adrenaline.
So one is a consistent failure of objectives the other a consistent completion of them.
I'm not talking about those running it from time to time or memeing around .
