Taking in account all last maps which are hecking huge - Legion after hitting first person most of times doesnt see anyone around at all, even with M&A. So he need to continue chase to hook that first one surv, if you just go for straight chase with 110% speed killer - it will take 4 gens chase time. Not to mention that surv can juke his frenzy hits on vaults if timed properly. So you break chase and continue following surv waiting for DW timer or opportunity for M1 hit. Chasing and following is a bit different things. Also, doing it backwards is a bit hard, you know, when you cant see where are you going and bumping into obstacles.
Why ppl is so mad about it and calling it exploit?
Lets call everything that can help end chases exploits.
Even a 110 killer without using powers can down someone before 4 gens get done. That's a you issue hon. Not a "we need to use it to be able to kill" thing. Dont chase 1 person for 4 gens. Ffs bloodlust would kick in before then.
-
Incrimental bans would help without hindering the accidental DCs.
see my post in this thread
How about each player, killer or survivor, get's a disconnect counter next to their name? Feel free to tell me what a genius I am below. :)I say it all the time but Its a lot to just re type lol.
Other games with dc bans do it and it seems to work well. Not too many DCs on those games anymore.
-
So I'm not crazy? It always seemed like the timer is accurate but I had to "sit still" for a second or two to let it start. I haven't used it in a long time though.
-
@MystiKasT I think thats too harsh. Sometimes people DC from loss of net, or power flicker. It's not ALWAYS intentional.
If it was closer to other games like R6, League of Legends, etc:
1- 5 min
2- 15 min
3- 1 hour
4- 3 hour
5- 12 hour/24 hour
6- 24 hour/3 days
7- 3 days / 1 week
(X/X for 5-7 is if it needs to be harsher faster)
Come back from a week ban and DC day one, take another week. or maybe come back a step down at 3 days.
Some form of good behavior reduction timer would be needed. As in, if you take a week long ban, come back and don't DC for a full 24 hours, it reduces, so your next DC wont be a 3 day ban, it would be 12/24 hours. If you take a 3 hour ban, and dont DC for 24 hours, the next DC would only be 5 or 15 min, as the original ban wasnt as bad.
it would help curve the intentional DCs without completely screwing people hit with accidentals.
If you intentionally DC 3 times, out of spite or "I dont like X killer", or being chased first, you would have to wait 1 hour to be able to play again. the next 3 hour ban may seem not worth a DC. If youre forced to sit out for a week, you may rethink DCing over something trivial with the threat of another 3 day ban.
On the other hand if someone loses power briefly, has net issues every once in a while, or has an IRL reason to leave, they can take a 5 minute, or even 15 minute ban and come back no harm done. If they cant play due to IRL things, that wont cause them to go elsewhere. On the offchance someone DOES have net issues 3 or 4 times in a single day, they should probably have that dealt with before trying to play ANY online game, as if that is an issue they are aware of, they are putting their teammates at a disadvantage with the sheer possibility that they get kicked, yet again.

I cannot fathom what you are trying to say here. Moonwalking isn't even the important part. You can bleed out survivors with Legion without ever walking backward. You just have to interupt the chase and track them.
The Red Stain is a game mechanic that alert survivors that the killer is almost onto them or is coming right behind a corner and killers have adapted to it by moonwalking around corners to take survivors by surprise.
Deep Wound is a game mechanic that put survivors on a timer as long as they are not in a chase, so Legions have adapted to it by intentionally breaking chase while still pressuring the survivor in order to make the bloody timer relevant.
The power is poorly designed and moonwalking shenanigans are just the logical conclusion of how it currently works. You don't really have to do anything special, use specific add-ons or perks. You are not using a bug or breaking the game in any shape or form either. Its just a trick. A very, very annoying trick to be on the recieving end of, but that to me does not qualify as a genuine exploit.
I guess what I'm trying to say is don't blame the players that are just using the tools they where given, blame the designers who concocted this mess of a killer ? But hey, maybe this whole discussion will become irrelevant in a few weeks so whatever.
You dont use a bug. You use a game mechanic in an unintended way, to reach unintended results, making legions power text useless.
Its exploiting it. Simply.
"Breaking the chase while pressuring the survivor"
You mean chasing backwards.
What you describe would be at a decent distance. Not on top of them, simply backwards.

No. It is working exactly as designed. The Deep Wound timer does not go down in a chase. Legion is just following stabbed survivors without chasing them. You don't even need to moonwalk, its just a quick way to interupt the chase without losing too much pace. All you have to do is track them at a distance. There are even perks to help you do that. Bloodhound, but also Predator and Stridor all help you follow survivors without entering a chase.
I have no clue what they intended because the whole power is a mess. The Legion are a 110% speed killer, so chasing survivors the regular way is not their forte. So you are supposed to use freral frenzy right ? Except it will take 4 hits of feral frenzy to down a survivor wich can take forever with frenzy reseting for each stab after the first one. If you do that the deep wound timer is completly irrelevant. So you leave them and go find someone else ? Ok, but then they just mend at 0 risk because it will freeze the timer at 1% no matter what and there are no skill checks for mending. The timer is entirely pointless if you use the mechanic the seemingly intended way.
The only way to make the power deliver its promise of bleeding deep wounds is to intentionaly break the chase. Thats not an exploit. Following and tracking survivors is not an exploit and neither is walking backward. Feral Frenzy is not bugged (unlike the blades add-ons right now), its working exactly as written on the can. Its just a can full of bad design.
Exactly. During a chase. Moonwalking is circumventing the chase. Even though you are literally chasing, making it backwards negates a power?
That's not intended, and is using a mechanic to bypass an intended feature. Aka exploit.
-
@SpaceCoconut Borrowed time had a timer until Legion came out. That's when it got the bleedout deep wounds. Remember you used to just go DOWN after X seconds. No mending.
So borrowed time moonwalking is almost entirely dependent on and relevant to the arguements of how the deep wounds timer from Legion works.
But yes, it is NOW just as possible against BT as any killer.
Edit: idk why half my posts are all bold or thick.

@NuclearBurrito said:
Exploit = using bugs to gain an unfair advantage.
Is walking backwards a bug? No
Is tailing a survivor that you can't see not causing a chase to start a bug? No
Is breaking chase to let DW drain a bug? No
So tell me. What bug is moonwalking being used to exploit? The chase mechanic works and isn't bugged, the movement mechanics work and aren't bugged, and the DW mechanics work and aren't bugged.
Breaking chase by exploiting a system. Yes.
Chasing is following a survivor within a certain distance.
Chasing, but backwards, is still chasing, and should not let anything that says "while in a chase" be disregarded simply because you're walking backwards and technically dont have LoS.
LoS breaks (which end a chase) were intended for jungle gyms and buildings, ending chases by juking and hiding, etc.
So someone saying that moonwalking "to circumvent bleedout timers" (not to mindgame, look cool, fake red stain trail, etc) that were designed to "not tick down while in a chase", should absolutely be considered an exploit.

@Jesya That just might be too OP though.
It’s almost impossible to find totems on those maps that almost half the time, it results into killers getting a win. Think about the higher ranks, also. They will get destroyed by that.
Ruin is suppose to buy time, it’s not meant to last all game.
If you want to make Ruin that hard to find, I suppose Survivors could have Small Game/Detectives Hunch built in.... not sure how that would work out for NOED though. Pretty sure NOED would be trash.
Exactly. Exactly this.
Totems shouldnt be basekit, they should be much harder to find.
Better totems mean they're harder to find.
That means totems like devour hope, ruin, and noed are harder to stop.
That means survivors will have to actively search or run perks for it, changing the "meta" slightly.
That means all these crutch perks wont be considered as such, and the game takes longer due to things like ruin not being destroyed, and people doing secondary objectives.
It's kinda what people have been asking for. Totem placements being so easy is why ruin is gone almost immediately every other game.

Moonwalking is moonwalking. You can't exclude one Killer from it just because he benefits more than others.
But you can when the killers power specifically says not in a chase, and because you're chasing backwards the game counts as not in a chase.
It's a liiiiittle bit of bs.
Pig could do it but waste her time....

whats this chase mechanic thing lmfao ???
a huntress can down you from 50 meters away... without chasing you,. is that chase mechanic abuse ?? does she have to actually chase you then down you ??
whats this chase mechanic...
also a trapper who hits someone and that survivor had BT , he can just moonwalk as well .. is that also a chase mechanic exploit ?? so not only legion but any killer abuses this so called chase mechanic
its nothing bannable… its just garbage idea how they did the BT timer now.. before was better
Chase mechanicnisnt being referred to as some imaginary rule.
They mean the mechanic that exists that counts you as "in a chase" for the sake of chase emblems, points, and in this case, legions power. Which isnt intended to tick down "while in a chase".
However I do agree that this has been possible for the new borrowed time (which was only made that way since legions debuff became a thing) and pigs trap. But nobody ever moonwalked with traps because that's wasting their use. So arguing that it's been possible before is almost a moot point.

That would be fine but in DbD case its isn't an issue after 1 week or 2 after the reset. With a game like Overwatch they have a new season every like 3 months-ish? That game also has a skill cap about 1000* higher than DbD because most killer gameplay can be boiled down into chasing, looping, and hitting. A few exceptions but nothing nearly as complicated as Overwatch. The biggest issue and main point is that not only if ranks just didn't reset the issue would basically go away for streamers, the queuing system that the Devs tested and reverted also fixed this issue, it just gave a bunch of people small queue times like 3-5 min that are taken from the streamers that have to queue for over 30 min for a game.
The take away is basically that regular player complaints made the system change back and gave the streamer these horrible queue times. While I do think that from a business stance that this was the right thing to do, streamers are still suffering in higher ranks and it should be a top priority to keep streamers happy and healthy in a community like DbD, because if the streamer base started to drop off because of terrible queue times and really getting burnt out from the game, this game's player base could take a serious drop.
Really, the issue with streamers is more that if they have be playing this game for years and have over 3000 hours playing the same game, they are definitely burnt out. Even if they don't show it. "JuSt PlAy A dIfErEnT gAmE", again issue with money, this is how they make a living. If they swap games, they won't know if they will be able to pay for their house or get their next meal, since most people watch for the game, not the person. Just watch any streamer play something they don't usually play and they might get 1/5th of their normal audience and the more people usually show up, the less they will get when they swap games.
The 2 big take aways are, 1 the rank reset needs to be redone so streamers that grind to a higher rank can still play 1 week after the reset, and the game needs to have a fresh new change to bring some energy back to the streamers. A new gamemode like 2v8 or heck even some new objective so it isn't just fix 5 gens or kill 4 people for over 3000 hours.
The amazing thing is DbD has survived this long off of 1 game mode alone. Most games can't say that. However, it definitely shows in the player base and streamers that they are playing a game that fundamentally hasn't changed in 4 years.
No. Streamers should follow the same rules period. They shouldnt get an extra week for a rank that isnt really a rank.
Streamers have to play a lot, sure, but some are going so far as to purposefully DC to play. Which is sad. And it shows the GAME needs fixes. But they shouldnt get a workaround simply because they stream. If it's a big problem for them, they should be vocal about it as they have the platform to do so.
They could play the other side killer/survivor.
They could play a different gane if this one is really ina bad spot, and most of their viewers would follow for them, not dbd. Some yes, but those arent donating anyway. They're watching multiple dbd streams. If they're donating, it's because they like the person.
Not to mention you can play and NOT go try hard and NOT rank up. As the community has shown, with their post after post, its not exactly EASY to cruise to red ranks anymore.
-
Moonwalking is part of the game, but using it to bypass a chase 'flag' to keep a power working beyond what is intended, is an exploit.
Bannable is on the devs.
Moonwalking for pigs traps is a thing too but I've not seen the outcry.

Sorry I just don't buy it that people don't know about this bug. DBD community is small, people run into the same players a lot. YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SOMEONE ABOUT IT AT THIS POINT. Whether it's from a friend in the game or someone you just played you would have been told about it.
But if you want to live in fairy tale world where people don't open their mouths and tell other people about stuff then be my guest.
You're the only one in fairy tale world. You seem to know EXACTLY the numbers of who knows, how the info spreads, and what EVERY player does to be able to make that claim.
It is entirely possible (and probably the case) that many people STILL dont know.

The Add-Ons say they increase the mend time. Thats it.
Someone first using Legion could believe the bug is intended and just think they're strong and minute mends are legit.
You can't determine who is "exploiting" and who just thinks they found a good add-on combo due to this.
I feel like you dont get that stacking blades cumulatively increases mend timer. As in minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes. It's absolutely not intended.
If it didnt get WORSE every application I would agree.
But its hard to know if that's even happening unless you just follow and watch your victim mend repeatedly, or already know of its exploit.
I do however agree it hard to tell who knows and who is legit just using blades for mend times, so the bug needs to be fixed before bans for it happen. At least in this instance.

I'm talking about the 100+ people I know from just playing the game a lot, of which a good chunk are on my friend's list.
Yet you skipped where they said "if I wasnt stupid enough to come to the forums, I wouldn't know Jack ######### about dbd news."

Sorry but if you can't see that survivors do a whole lot of nothing for long periods of time and you are continuously catching them when they mend you are just being willfully ignorant.
People know. Doesn't matter if they visit forums/Reddit or not. They will come across or have a friend tell them about it at some point. My entire Xbox group doesn't go to the forums or Reddit either and they ALL know about the mend bug. Before me, the guy that goes to the forums, even told them.
NEWS TRAVELS QUICKLY. At this point the mend bug is just well known. It's an exploit. Defend it however you want but 95% chance it's someone purposely abusing an exploit.
Seriously? It takes the second or third mend to even GET to exploited timers, and when the bar is gone they can continue to mend with no indication of deep wounds still being actice. You wouldnt know until the 2nd or 3rd, IF you were assuming they dont do gens injured. Which we all know survivors will do gens injured, ESPECIALLY against legion.
You just KNOW that everyone injured is still mending and not off doing gens?
Gtfo with that arguement. Unless you sit and WATCH them mend, you cant know they're ONLY MENDING for 5 mins.
Word can travel fast in communities. Where MOST casual players dont go. Just because your group may be the exception, does not prove the rule.
-
Damn double post...

That's not the queue. Its because youre rank 5 on reset day.

Like, legit had grim pantry not once, not twice, but three times where there was always a pallet 8 or less meters away and double pallets in the jungle gym spawns. Basically anywhere a pallet could spawn, it did. Legit over 30 pallets, maybe?
Something seems to be broken on Lery's too. So many windows and doors that the map has become even worse than Haddonfield.
(I was survivor for these matches, by the way)
Maybe I was just unlucky(or lucky?) but it seems like almost everything with the game in its current state is running about as effectively as a bus that's currently on fire.

And when i mess up simply because of my own mistakes it's like i am stabbing myself in the gut with a knife.
Except, you stab your teammates in the gut as well, lose all points and any chance that something may go well.

News travels quickly in gaming communities even to the players that don't go to forums or Reddit. Double knife add-ons is not a common thing. Most Legion's run mixtapes or dirt. Maybe 1 knife. But both knives, unless the dude is a rank 20 he's doing it on purpose to exploit. So yes they are liars. Not to mention the first time you use it should be pretty obvious something is wrong when it takes a survivor minutes to mending.
So you watch your victims mend fully?

It's absolutely bannable seeing as NOBODY is supposed to be standing on pallets. Survivors and Legion can vault them, but walking on them is obviously not intended.

Pretty sure everyone who was serious suggested incrimental timed bans. But okay.
5 min, 15 min, 30 min, hour, 3 hour, 12 hour, 24 hour, 3 day, week, etc.
Reset on shrine or daily depending on how far the climb goes.
Would cover accidental DCs as most dont accidentally DC 5 times a day. DC bug should be fixed as well.
Edit: after reading it again, and seeing responses from OP saying "literally every thread wants permaban" I'm concluding this is just bait.

I just had 3 people DC on my first hit with shock as doctor. I was naked shocking no hits JUST to do my daily. And they all DC. Nobody even got hit.

The poor 4th....
I let them go. But jesus most games that person would have been #########.

When gens are powered, a battle royale style ring will begin to close (or open, outwards towards the gates), forcing players to leave or be downed with a bleed out timer.
If hatch is still a thing, and opened, a ring would start with the hatch as the center, also forcing the game to end in one way or another quickly.
Just random thoughts.

A single filthy blade shouldnt cause it.

There's a difference between a single good match and a dozen 4ks. Any killer is viable if a skilled player uses them against the average survivor main. It's when you're able to get regular and consistent 4ks with a killer against solid SWF groups that theyre on par with Nurse. A single screen cap of a 4k at rank 1 doesn't mean a killer is top tier.
On par with nurse and viable are two completely different things.

Yeah that's really what I think it comes down to. As to why it wasnt originally made like that.
I love finding synergy builds. I used to run exactly that then I messed around a little. I think my two faves so far are:
Dance With Me
Quick and Quiet
Lithe/Sprint Burst
Poised
And
Tenacity
Unbreakable
No Mither/ Resillience
Flip-Flop
Pretty situational, absolutely not a "covers all aspects" build. But they shine when used correctly.
Of course theres also the "Screw Your Friends" build if you really want a challenge/to mess around.
All 4 run:
Diversion
Bond
Object of Obsession
Deliverance
Not super synergistic unless your intent is to sandbag, but with a group of 4 working against each other it's pretty fun.

It wouldn't necessarily need a downside when it's a) stricter and b) can be punished by simply dropping the survivor. It's also now countered by a number of other perks, and in order to use it you need to break off from a gen and get hit, and then heal in order to get the second hit. With those kinds of requirements and consequences it hardly needs the downside.
By that logic it could be punished now by not chasing the same person all game.
But my point is. People ######### about it now when it actually has a downside. you dont think this change would have the same outcry simply for it having NO downside? The community would remain the same about MoM. Heavily divided.

Plague is okay. Really nothing special. You can get a Iridescent 4k as Doc or Freddy and it doesn't make them top tier.
But at rank 1 it shows they are capable and viable there. Regardless of what kind of survivors. Rank 1 is rank 1. Rank 1 potatoes are rank 1. And the rank 1 "cheat with friends" seal team squad is so much lower than 10% of matches its laughable.
Plague is viable at rank 1. Weve just seen it.

When I go to the DMV to get my license renewed or my plate re-registered I don't take a number from their automated system, I bring my own numbers and scream the numbers out whenever I'm not called. Eventually someone will help me!
Help you to the door out maybe. 😆

Because you can use one without the other in some situations.
Tenacity helps all the time. Crawling and healing means you can hide AND be ready to be saved.
Unbreakable means if they slug you get away. A second chance perk, but ya know, still under the radar.
Unbreakable and no mither means you can bring yourself back up over and over IF they dont insta hook you.
The two together are awesome. If it was one perk people would cry op! As it would be. Crawling while healing, both at faster speeds, AND you can revive yourself.
Exactly why it's two seperate perks.
That and they were made at different times for different survivors...
