  • At least killers can't accuse me of holding M1 anymore, I'm not holding M1 🤔

Thank you for mentioning that. It's been a major problem for months and hasn't gotten a SINGLE comment from BHVR.

I feel like we're working with AI. I'm just so sad about this.

Honestly, all I want - all I really want from BHVR is just one line in a blog post or a tweet

"Yes, we are aware of the issue with cheaters and we are working on it. Thank you"

But no they were too busy roleplaying as dwight for a whole month instead

Aka an useless feature which is more of an headache than an actual solution since I'm pretty sure a lot still don't get banned.

In fairness, every cheater I've reported via support tickets (with video proof of course) did get banned in the end - some took longer than others but yeah

I don't know how it works for chat harrassment though

  • "Use the report feature" is about the only response you'll get

The only way people get banned for chat harrassment is report tickets, I'm p sure

    Same with cheaters

    Ahem

Bubbas face cosmetics are an unhealthy part of the game that promote tunneling. Just a couple days ago I was playing Meg, and for this, I was tunneled + moried by a bubba. This is blatantly unfair mechanic that makes the overall experience worse.

    I rest my case.

Jokes on him, you don't get mask progress via moris

  • Without trying to be antognistic, I just feel like this is how BHVR decides to handle sensitive or otherwise controversial things

They just typically pick the option of least resistance or don't acknowledge the problem at all (See: cheaters, still ZERO word from bhvr about it)

With regards to this cosmetic in particular, they had a few options:

    • Remove Smartface only - get backlash from the community for being selective and ignoring what other people were saying (Stuff about the Jake mask and such)
    • Leave the mask as is and continue to get the complaints and enable the behaviour that is being complained about
    • Set out to actively ban the people doing what a mod called 'provable' things, as to not punish the whole dbd community for the actions of what I hope are a very small minority of players. Call that optimism if you want, I'd like to think I'm entitled to it.
    • Just remove all the masks and never have to worry about this issue again

And as you can imagine, #4 is just the option of least resistance. Sure people will talk about it, but they probably won't complain too much esp given the context.

There's also something to be said about the precedent this sets about removing content for how it's being used in the game regardless of the context of the thing being used. I'm not here to debate that, it's just something I was thinking about while reading these threads

  • Alchemist ring deserves to be gutted

I'd also probably change his two speed addons, maybe make them not stack or something like that

These are the only changes I'd make to blight personally

  • @Rooftopper said:

so why not just remove smartface and leave the rest be?

Because that would cause 1 of 2 reactions

"Why wasn't X mask removed? It's racist that only X race are allowed masks"

    or

"Why wasn't X mask removed? It's racist because people can use that mask to target X race"

BHVR wants to wash their hands of this whole thing and I don't blame them.

  • Indifferent for the most part since in the nicest way possible, it's not 'my' problem. Other people have their experiences and I'm glad that something is being done to rectify their negative encounters

I said it in the other thread, I'm sad to see content removed from the game - it's a part of the game's history being removed in a way. I understand they had to remove all the masks bc the backlash and response would've been worse if they had just removed smartface.

I hope LF get's some more cosmetic options in the future or a return of this feature in a different manner, someone suggested Bubba wearing certain items of the 4 main survivors like dwight's glasses and so on.

I posted a personal opinion about and that woman, MANDY, only closes for nothing. I just want to see the community opinions.

The high numbers of same theme has a name: indignation.

Their players are indignated about the removal that they will impose undemocratically, and to make this minor, they are closing the discussions.

Yeah but if the recent discussions section is full of nothing but threads about bubba's masks it's hard to read other stuff no?

    That's the logic probably

  • We already have a thread talking about it, that's why

Mods tend to remove duplicate threads to stop spam

Can anyone please explain why removing Leatherface masks is important?

Like,i don't see how it's gonna solve anything. If people want to be awful then they are going to be awful.

Apologies if that may sound rude to anyone.I just want to see the correlation

The claudette mask (or smart face as it's known in game) was the main one causing issues as certain players were using it in conjunction with other things to target players of certain races and ethnicities. The mask also became synonymous with toxicity since the players who use it were often just that

The other masks, except for maybe the jake mask (I'm not really sure), never really caused an issue but I think BHVR just wants to be done with the whole discussion so removing all of the masks is much more straight forward and less likely to cause as much backlash compared to if they just removed the claudette mask.

but those racist players will have to be overtly racist now, to have the same effect. they can facecamp and tunnel, sure, but players will do that anyway over the smallest of things (theyll also bm as survivor over the smallest of things, dont get me wrong). to make it properly racist and so make it hurt they will have to go out of their way to do so, which in turn will make it clear and reportable.

I don't completely agree, they can basically do what they've been doing the whole time minus the Bubba mask.

Removing the cosmetic does help with the issue in that it people will no longer be able to use it to cause offense (or in some people's opinions it existing at all was a problem but I'm not here to cause argument). The people who were targetting and proved to be targetting will most likely go unpunished for their actions and instead caused everyone to be punished with the removal of all the masks

It's not a decision I disagree with, but it's one I worry about the precedent it sets. In this case it makes complete sense but if BHVR decides to take this kind of action again, will it make sense then? Only time will tell I suppose

We do ban but of course we can't pre-emptively ban....which means that players have had to under go some particularly harrowing cases before a ban can be issued. So removing an element to prevent the whole thing happening in the first place is probably the right call. Hate behaviour such as we have seen has no place in our game.

Yeah I understand the logic behind the decision, I hope i'm not coming across as antagonistic about it.

I'm just a bit sad that we're losing content that's been in the game for a long time, not necessarily the claudette mask itself more so the concept of a character having unique collectables that were thematic to the game and you had to spend time getting.

a clique of black DBD streamers and their white sycophants have been twisting themselves into knots over how "racist" Bubba's skin masks are, when in reality they'll complain about anything being racist. a minority of leatherface players feed into this and intentionally camp people that play black survivors, and the histrionic clique blow this out of proportion and present it as this horrible epidemic when it's really not. BHVR wants brownie points because these days they care more about virtue signaling than actually fixing the game so this is where their priorities lie. unfortunately for them the clique is going to find something else to performatively complain about being "racist" next because it's never enough, and the leatherface players aren't going to stop facecamping. in fact they'll probably start doing it even more now in protest.

You're looking into it way too deep

The most logical conclusion is BHVR was receieving complaints about this cosmetic, they know they probably can't feasibly ban people who where doing it (even though a mod said it was proveable) so instead they opted to remove it to put a pin in the problem for good (Which, again - I think is fine tbh)

Except the fact that the racist players are still probably gonna go unpunished and isn't that a scary thought

  • They acknowledged that Twins exist by nerfing them again, time for them to stagnate for another year

  • @Mandy said:

It's not about "whiners" it's about the fact that these were proven to be used to harass our players in a hateful manner - that's not something we're going to support and we're certainly not going to make it easier for people to do this in our game.

    Forgive me, but

if it was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt then surely BHVR is more than capable of being able to ban the people who were doing it? Will this be the only instance of BHVR removing content in this manner?

Personally I stand by BHVRs decision on this topic but it still raises the question.

  • I'm laughing so hard that they nerfed Twins addons

Just another nail in their coffin which has about 80 already

  • any chance we could get a word about the cheating problem?

asking for a sizeable portion of the playerbase

  • No.

No Way Out is one of the fairest and most balanced killer perks in the game apart from in one specific circumstance (Hatch being closed). That is the only instance NWO comes close to being unfair.

You need to hook all 4 survivors once to get the maximum effect out of it and doing that is risky because you don't want to spread hook pressure out like that - survivors win games when killers do that since it's considered 'playing nice' not cycling between 2 survivors to get one of them out quickly

If you want to counter NWO - here's the secret to it:

    • As soon as the last gen is done, run to a gate, tap it to activate it then run away and hide
    • If you haven't been hooked yet and think it might be in play - don't act reckless until you're sure it's not
    • Pay attention to the Killer's playstyle, if they're trying to get everyone hooked once, it's fair to assume they may have it. Same with their perks if they have NOED or are committing to a camp then it's also possible they have it.

Doug Bradley's wife in comment section on Instagram had said that he had nothing to do with the voicelines being removed and that they had addressed that on stream several times. Also said they are frustrated that DBD/Park Avenue aren't saying why they removed them and instead having Doug take the blame for it.

Damn, there goes that possible explanation

    I guess we'll never know. :(

  • The most plausible explanation right now is that Pinhead's actor and the likeness his in-game model is based off, Doug Bradley, had no idea that Pinhead was going to be in the game and probably had an issue with voicelines not done by him being attached to his likeness. There's a dispute of some kind going on with the Hellraiser license and it's likely that BHVR didn't want to get further tangled up with it.

I'm hopeful that there's a possibility of Doug reprising his role and doing the voicelines for the game at some point in the future but I'm not holding my breath

  • This applies to the tentacle sound as well, the sound that plays when he can use his power again after the cooldown

  • @Rizzo said:

I want to spend a couple of words on this topic.

The battle between hackers and anti-cheats is never ending, as much as people think we do not ban people, bans happen quite often, the anti-cheat gets updated constantly, but it's simple to understand that you can't block hacks that haven't been found yet.

To put it simple: hackers create hack, EAC updates to block it, so hackers create new hack, then EAC updates to block this one too, and so on and so forth.

    It's a continuous fight.

RIzzo I appreciate you speaking about this topic, I know as a forum mod it's out of your control so I'm not aiming this at you or any moderator

I just want to point out:

It's not that nobody thinks people don't get banned, it's that (at the moment) BHVR is completely ignorant to the cheating epidemic and refuses to talk about it or acknowledge it. There's no communication, which leads people believing that BHVR doesn't care.

We recently had a Q&A and the issue of cheaters was one of the most upvoted questions and it was completely ignored.

The game going free on epic in the middle of this massive cheating spree again just paints a picture of BHVR simply not caring, which I don't believe because every cheater I've reported with evidence has eventually been banned but the lack of communication is why people believe there's no care.

I mean they already see the crow idle and the sound cue of her placing it, do they really need a third? People just need to learn how much distance 8m is, pretty much the same as PotD distance without addons.

I think a bit of better telegraphing would stop people complaining that the killer is unfair and would help people learn how to play against her

rather than you know, the alternative of her being nerfed

  • Personally I don't mind this but I wish it was telegraphed better to the player

Like maybe they should get some kind of sound que or a warning when they are in injure range of a dire crow when not swarmed

  • @Viamont said:

Reason most killers are clamoring (and with reason) for hard nerfs againts them, they are just to strong for what they can do and what they cost. Not to mention they where also meent to be a secondary objective for survivors but they ended being more of a...4th? extra objective for killers

Oh yeah I'm not against changes to them, as long as they aren't completely made worthless like 70% of the current survivor perks.

From my usage of the perks so far, they're strong but don't always come into play as often as you might think. COH is the most consistant of the boon perks because it doesn't require any particular thing for it to work. You just be in the radius and you can heal/be healed faster. That's it

Shadowstep removes your scratch marks, which is usually only useful if you're playing stealthily or being chased in that area - which can happen but some things need to line up for it to work. The aura reading part is probably the strongest thing and it doesn't always come into play bc not everyone runs aura reading perks. Still, incredibly strong and fun perk

The new one I'm still testing out, from what I've gathered so far - in SoloQ it's strong when the killer decides to be a bit greedy and slug multiple people. Without the usage of comms, I have to point at my boon and hope my teammates who are somewhat close can crawl into it to make use of it but sometimes they don't realise/aren't looking.

The best use I've seen of the perk is when I was playing with a friend, they went down in the totem's range, so I got in the killer's face so they'd not hook right away and chase me, allowing my friend to pick themselves up.

  • @Viamont said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2678093#Comment_2678093

I have to disagree with shadow step, its stupidly opresive againts killers if its convined with iron will, that renders all forms of tracking useless againts this survivors, and blood pools arent really reliable, specially on maps that have dark ground or to many stuff on them (like grass as an example) making it ridiculously hard to track survivors.

I have been saying it for a bit, but boons mechanics need to change to make them more engaging for both sides, be giving them a limited amount of uses per trial OR a cooldown after blessing a totem, the fact they can be re blessed indefinitly with a laguable amount of time as 14 seconds its for the most part overpowered.

3 to 4 uses per survivor its more than enought for a full trial, more so if multiple survivors are using them.

As an alternative giving them a 80/70/60 seconds cooldown would make them a tactical desicion from the part of the survivors.

Additionally killers should be a allowed to snuff OR destroy the totems, this makes it a tactical desicion for the killer as it might need said totems for other hexes.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2678093#Comment_2678093

I can se where you are coming from, and im sure that for survivors CoH its an absolute blast to have as trivializes many games and makes them a cake walk, but i can tell you, boons for the killer side arent fun in the slightest.

Shadow step with iron will its a total pain in the rear, specially on big maps as it makes its ridiculously hard to find anyone, specially if theres two or more shadow steps in the game, they are somewhat manageable with some killers and a bit of luck

CoH on the other hand its busted beyond believe and not fun in the slightest to play againts, it trivializes preasure, specially for M1 killers as they are completly forced to comit to chases wich in turn most of the time forces them to tunnel the crap out of anyone they can find, specially if it happens to be the boon user

As someone who's been using the boon perks frequently, it doesn't really trivialise matches. People forget that Boons aren't completely map wide if there's only one in play (Obviously if everyone is running them, it becomes ridiculous)

It makes things easier, for sure because it allows survivors to be more time efficient and have to take less risks because they can heal themselves at normal speed. It DOES trivialise certain playstyles and powers though - that I can agree with 100%.

Whenever I face a hit/run tactic using killer I feel bad.

  • I'm in a weird spot when it comes to my opinions on boons, COH in particular since that is the best one of the three

On the one hand, I think that COH can be a bit too oppressive against a lot of the killer roster, to the point where it renders some killers almost completely powerless like Legion or Twins

But at the same time I'm happy to actually see Survivor perks that are good and worth running. I was getting bored of the same stale meta perks and using different but lackluster perks didn't help that much. I've been playing a 'boon-centric' playstyle with the release of Jonah and It's been fun. For me, at least - I can't speak of the killers experience.

I think both sides should have strong perks with good variety.

  • I usually just stand still and make them think I'm gonna let them hit stage 2, give them a point or two

Then I unhook them and send them on their way

  • Blight, Doctor, Pyramid Head (you can't cleanse a totem and not get tormented if there's a trail infront of it), Hag if they don't expect it

    Just a few

  • I don't know why all of the boon ranges are the same? One way to potentially help with balancing is making them have different ranges

I.E Circle of Healing might have a range of 16M but Shadow Step might have a range of 28M and so on

You could have an extremely strong boon but it's offset by a smaller radius

  • I'm an idiot and read it as 'token' forgive me

You're totally right. I will say I like the new angle they're taking with Hexes in recent times, having them not be standalone hexes but rather perks that spawn hexes like Plaything or Pentimento

  • You just got one, it's called Grim Embrace (There's also No Way Out too)

    Unless you mean something else

  • I have a weird fascination with watching content centered around really obscure games or content talking about lost games/ARG kind of stuff

  • They won't.

    Ignorance is bliss

  • Yeah I disagree with you, the perk isn't the problem.

The problem is many people put themselves in a mindset that survivors will loop the first structure they're close to when they get hit, instead of taking advantage of something they've always had (Post hit speed boost), of which Overcome adds 2 seconds to which is a big deal I will say.

Survivors "hold W" because not only is it a smart way to drag out chases & conserve some resources but it's also one of the main forms of counterplay to the abundance of "Anti-Loop" killers in the game. Mostly projectile based killers that either slow you down or are able to damage you in other, more quicker methods.

You talk about "Lose lose" situations, when a lot of the cast put survivors in constant lose lose situiations all the time, particularly when it comes to animation locks and killers who punish them. This is just one factor as to why survivors don't bother, they just predrop and run because looping isn't as worth it as it used to be. DBD is just filled with these situations right now, unfortunately

By the way, it's interesting that you bring up Nurse - because she's still to this day the killer who ignores 80% of the game because her power just ignores pallets, windows, structures and so on. The same is true of Blight to a certain extent as well.

The weakest killers in the game have always been the basic M1 killers for the most part, nothing has really changed - The post hit speed boost has been in the game since it came out.

  • Yeah I'll try to find the fun in playing against a Blight with the best addons and 4 slowdowns who then babyrages and tunnels/camps when he loses his ruin.

I wish the above was an exaggeration but that's genuinely how a lot of my matches go

    Oh right

I thought they weren't doing the sweater give aways like last year again since they're all on the store now

Pretty cool if so, I haven't read anywhere about this so forgive me.

  • The Dwelf persona is cringe

Was also disappointed that we're not getting free cosmetics like last year

  • Some people already figured out ways to game the system without DCing or playing AFK wraith though, they just play for hooks and then let everyone escape since the devs told us the criteria that raises or lowers MMR. Is that really a healthy thing?

The fact MMR only takes into account kills and escapes is something that still to this day bothers me

  • Well when a rekindled totem is up, you get cursed by Pentimento whenever you do something that it's affected by

So, in a way - yeah.

  • I wish it was telegraphed to the player a bit better when a Crow can damage you and when it can't

Like make a crow glow a certain colour if it's in instant health state damage range or something

That's my only complaint about her really

I am defending them because they're not a problem in the first place. They're actually fun to play against once you learn the counterplay. It's just that the average player is stupid and doesn't care about improving while preferring easy or instant value

Players shouldn't be expected to learn how to counterplay exploiting blight players. There is no 100% way a player can know and predict that someone is using 3rd party software to gain an advantage. That's why stretched res is also a problem because it's hard to know if it's even being used

I'm talking specifically about lag flicks, they are not defendable and have no place in the game IMO. If they are, then you open up pandora's box on what is and isn't an 'exploit'.

  • Otz got most of his streaks pre-MMR which is still quite impressive, but the old ranking system had a wider variety of player skill level since it was based on the emblem system. Still, he's pretty good at killer & his streak series is more about his mastery of a killer than it is the wins if you ask me. I greatly respect his dedication to DBD as a game. I'd go as far as to say he's put in the most effort out of any dbd content creator out there with regards to teaching people the game and giving genuine advice

As for JRM, he seems to be pretty good at the game but the matches you see on YT are picked out based on their entertainment value I would assume. I'm sure there's matches where killers get stomped or he gets stomped but they're boring/don't make for good content. I think most survivor youtubers work in a similar way, I mean they're not gonna upload videos of them losing back to back
