  • I voted for kinda trashy.

Atm the addons...... they're terrible! I'm just saying it.... they're in the same situation as what most of nurses addons were in or LFS addons are in... where they just... dont.. do anything.... I mean okay, when a player knows how to play and knows the timing the flashlight by its self is a weapon and can slow down the momentum of the killer quite well!.... but the addons are in need for some serious tweaks.. range addons that can actually.... well give decent range would be nice.

Soooooo, I'm going to take this concept and generalize it a little more... Mind you I am a survivor main, but my killer main friends can often relate to what I have to say so I'm hoping you all can see where I'm coming from as well. I would also like to add these aren't just my thoughts, these are thoughts of my friends as well, including some of the killer main ones.

Okay, so. There are a bunch of different killers and survivors in the game, however killers have unique ablilities and survivors don't, sure it could be argued that some survivors are inherently quieter/louder than others, and some can blend in to their environment better than others, but that's really the end of it. Really what I'm trying to get at here is, there is a "survivor meta" that is typically a general group of perks that are considered good for survivors to run that will counter MOST killer based metas, however there is pretty much a different "killer meta" for each killer. We as survivors can only do our best in setting ourselves up for success by generalizing all our perks to try to make them all work with every killer. Unfortunately the perks that work against most other killers are, most of the time, sub-par against a spirit (and a few other killers I won't be mentioning due to the fact this is a spirit based thread). And one perk that makes her absolutely unstoppable is strider. Strider takes the survivors only counter to a spirit's phase and laughs in its face, throw beads and some tracking perks on top of that and it gets crazy. Now I WILL say that spine chill (Wich is a perk I ALWAYS run) is Handy, but it doesn't always work in your favor, sure it's *cool* to phase over to a gen and yank someone off of it, but a good spirit usually gets out of phase before getting all the way to a gen, this actually puts MORE pressure on an experienced survivor, because if they have spine chill they've probably moved already but you coming out of phase earlier actually gives you an advantage for a couple reasons, you won't have to worry about coming out of phase and missing a grab (and therefore wasting time) allowing a survivor to get some distance, also a good survivor won't run from the gen if they know you're coming, they will opt to walk. Coming out of phase earlier gives you the advantage to see a larger area around the gen, meaning, if the survivor accidentally walked tward you that's an easy down and if they walked away from you you may have just saved enough time by breaking out of phase a little early to see them turn around a corner.

Also when people say spirit is boring to play against I usually assume they're talking about a certain type of popular spirit play-style. The "stay by the hook and come back immediately when someone is taken off" play-style. This play-style can be used by a few other killers as well, but usually isn't as effective as it is on spirit. The direct counter to this would normally be borrowed time, but with phase, it's pretty useless. I'm not saying this isn't a valid way to play the game, I'm just saying, I play dbd to have fun. As a survivor if the killer wants to just meme around or something, that's fine with me, I love it! It gives me a break from the salt. If a killer wants to play a fairly normal round patrolling gens, also fine that's still usually fun (even if there is a little post game salt), but staying around the hook, downing the same survivor hook after hook (also known as tunneling/camping) until they're out of the game then moving on to another survivor and doing the same thing is just frustrating, it makes DBD as a whole feel boring. And in the off chance I DO play killer I am usually a "let one live to tell the tale" kind of killer, I usually find it makes for a good post-game chat and is a good way to make friends in the dbd community. Not saying you have to play that way, I'm just saying that's how I prefer it.

Given all this info I'm sure you can see why it's sometimes frustrating to play against a spirit, and I can full on admit to killing myself on purpose against someone who utilizes some of the above mentioned tactics, but the only thing I can do is apologise for wanting to have fun while playing the game. I usually try to prioritize fun to everything else, for instance if I'm playing in a swf and we absolutely stomp the killer, I will usually be fine with letting the killer kill me even if I could have easily escaped, and some of my normal swf team sees that as okay as well. I believe in the past bhvr has stated that In a fair match the killer should get a 66% kill rate on average.... That means getting a 2-3 kill game pretty consistently. If I die in a match I usually just chalk it up to being part of the 66% and move on with my life. No there is also a certain group of killers who play this game who think you NEED to get a 4k every game, they're usually the people who make the game not fun as they will do anything to get it.

TLDR; the spirit (and her popular builds) are pretty hard to counter by the survivor via perks. Good survivors usually rely on spine chill to "see" her coming, so find ways to play around that. Spirit is only boring when played a certain way (just my opinion) however, the play-style that makes her boring is a fairly popular one. We should be focusing on having fun while playing this game, after all it's not like it's an e-sport (that is targeted at both survivor and killer mains).

I as your oppenent do not care if you have fun... I care about my fun.... I know that survivors don't give a shiet if I'm attempting to learn a new killer and therefore I'm struggling in red ranks.... I know that a camping killer doesn't give a shiet about my fun while I'm on the hook,

FUN! is different for everyone... I enjoy the competitive side of the game more then the memes and theres most likely someone who enjoys the memes more then competing.... so there is no way! That the team can please everyone with each product that they put out, its impossible to do... spirit is definitely more on the competitive side of things which is what attracts me to her so much, I love being being able to compete with the best teams.

  • @anarchy753 said:

It simply depends on her place in line.

Arguably, Spirit, Billy and then Huntress/Hag/Freddy all come before her.

You see it has nothing to do with getting overpowered killers nerfed, since Nurse has already been worked on now. Everything past here is just about getting the strongest killers nerfed, regardless of balance.

I'll honestly be shocked if Spirit gets any changes beyond Prayer Beads getting the nerfing it deserves, hopefully some of the momentum can get crushed there.

This is false.... doc is next then the chainsaw killers then Micheal.. they gave the "list" in the Q&A

  • @[Deleted User] said:

no the community will start to learn hag and see how strong she and then they will nerf her because a streamer said she do not have a counter play 😒

Exactly this /\.... hag is right there in the top tiers, the community just hasn't put the time towards her.... eventually hag will rise and the known streamers will state that theres no counterplay and the community will take it as gospel.

Oh okay, so I guess me wanting to buy a killer that isn't brand new isn't relevant, because "it's not new" so "it doesn't need testing". And that's why this game has under 100k players ^^

Oh... you want the ptb open at all times so players can hop on test everything and anything that said players dont own in their game.... would be interesting for sure , is that something the team could do though?

  • The perk is quite powerful.... and perfect actually.... powerful because sometimes you just dont realize how long a minute is... sometimes the killer will hook 2 other survivors and come across a DS---> this alone is quite good... then all the fun/"tricky" plays you can do with DS is fun... I hope the team doesn't ever touch it again.... at least for now I do.

  • @lynelmane said:

I am a spirit main also and I can tell you that she is fine. Her base kit is fine, her ability is fine. The only thing that might need a change are her addons. I use the activation charge and speed addons usually, and I almost never use beads.

If they change her basekit or how her power works, I most certainly will uninstall DBD. They don't need to change her.

They changed Freddy because he was weak and very difficult to play. They won't change spirit like that because she is not weak. She does require some skill in order to do well with her, she is not the easiest killer to learn.

People complain all the time that she has no counterplay. She does, it's just not the same as any other killer.

She doesn't need an added visual queue for when she is phasing, because she has one! her hair stands up and the glass on her body glitters.

    Do not change the spirit.

I feel that not too many survivors (players in general) haven't noticed the visuals yet..... and shes been out for over a year, I find it funny actually because I see all these threads of "no counterplay" and o just ask myself, what else do these people want?... the team can't make her to obvious...

  • Atm ps4 DBD is in rough condition to say the least.... fps is terrible, unknown errors... the sensitivity for killer is for whatever reason slower then what it was... it's quite bad.... I dont blame anyone not wanting to play killer... whenever I play on the asylum maps and go into the main building my screen turns into a blurr

Well, all the disconnects and forum posts says otherwise. Like you said, I didn't have much of a problem facing her after learning how she's played but I agree that it isn't fun when you're at a window or a pallet loop and she decides to phase. At that point, it's just a gamble and not much skill involved.

She gives tell tales when she is phasing.... her glass glows and her veins pop... it's not like a sign over her head saying "hey I'm using my power!" And it shouldn't be... but if you pay attention you can notice...

really? I would agree if the stated counterplay was actually viable and not just a bunch of garbage from spirit mains

When theres tell tales and the survivor is capable of improvising idk man the killer seems balanced to me.

  • @artist said:

this is actually the equivalent of people posting merciless victorys as bubba and then saying it's proof he's good

Everyone has a right to their opinion.... its actually the ones who say "there is no counterplay to such and such killer but then provide no proof" and then continue the narrative even after many players state counterplay that is there for her...

  • Nah.... myers is overrated because Myers.....

  • Or the farm... why is it not an option?

after 2200 hours majority in red ranks i know what im talking about. saying spirit is mind gamable is delusion

It really isn't... you can do a similar pallet juke on her that you do with nurse... go through the pallet wait a second go back through the pallet and pull it down.... spine chill helps with this... its not hard mate, on ps4 shes queen, you have to improvise and once you get used to the playstyle and tell tales shes a ton of fun..

I hope bhvr makes more like her.

I could be wrong, but the spirit stand still thing seems to be a pretty well known technique, so apparently it's working on people. Why make the tell so subtle that people don't notice it if the intention is that it be noticed? Seems like bad design to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If its prettymuch a giant sign over her head saying "shes using her power!!" Then itll turn into the most boring gameplay ever to be in the game.... everyone will just walk and it simply wouldnt be fun... something that you have to pay attention to and find is a lot more challenging and if you dont find it theres still a question that needs answering .

all surviors have in this game to live is “running in a circle” if they cant fight them with the literal only way in the game too than yes its dumb

This is far from the truth... it almost appears your DBD career has just started or something because there's many ways for survivors to mind game every killer... especially the spirit...

  • @PolarBear said:

Spirit's base kit does need some changes. Mainly ways for survivors to have more counterplay and more feedback on that counterplay.

You don't need to worry about that yet, next rework/add-on rework is going to be Doctor so at least another 6 months before she'll get changed.

And then myers and the chainsaw killers so itll be quite sometime before spirit comes and even then more killers should be looked at....

For the whole "need for counterplay" narrative.... her glass shards glow when she phases and her veins pop as well----> on top of that her animation resets when she phases..... these 3 things are not obvious and shouldnt be because well..... every game itll be survivors walking when ever she does phase at least now theres still a question...

  • I would like for the survivors to have to worry about more then just the killer.... more dangerous terrain, traps or maybe zombies from previous survivors that died in that realm....... like the entity's realm is supposed to be dangerous and right now it's not.....

  • @YaiPa said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/768101#Comment_768101

The game it’s the same. Only because platforms specific hinders the player who play her, doesn’t mean she’s weaker herself.

With the sensitivity the way it is, nurse is unable to turn freely while blinking like she is on PC, combine that with how the fps is..... optimization is in general and you have arguably the worst gaming experience.... I just went against a nurse for first time in 3 months, where as on PC you get a nurse everyday....

  • @TheBean said:

This is a funny post for a few reasons...

That poster shows the exact reason why she needed to be nerf'ed. It is funny to show how powerful she was, then what she will become, then complain about how she's losing her competitiveness. So you just showed how overpowered she was and that the Devs want to bring her movement more inline with the other killers.

    --

I don't care about tournaments... Using that as an argument aswell is bullshit, since, IMO, a big portion of the community don't / can't participate in them.

People will still have tourneys, they just change the rules to suit. So... using that as an argument for not making changes to the game is BS.

    --

I get it though.... If you enjoyed playing a character in a game allot, then the developers change it... That can be frustrating. Some people can't roll with the punches and feel they need to "stand up" to this injustice... rather than just accepting it as a "for the greater good" for the game.

    --

Maybe understanding the reasoning for the increase in disconnects might get people to accept there must be changes to the game.

What do you think is going to happen once disconnecters start getting "punished" when the reasoning for them disconnecting isn't getting addressed?

Once the disconnecting punishments come in, there will be a drop in the player base, but at least they might be able to cushion the fall a bit by removing some of the crap that is causing players to disconnect in the first place.

    --

Who really cares about GOD Nurse players having to relearn their Nurse play, or stay GODs with them, cause they will still be good with the Nurse anyways... You know they can actually branch out and play other killers instead aswell.

    Funny. Giggles!

In no way should players who are stomping their feet (disconnecting) because they choose to not change up their play style (which what nurse enforces) be acknowledged.... disconnecting screws over the players who wanna play against a nurse or a Billy.... because a player just doesnt wanna go against nurse or legion or any other killerdoesnt mean disconnecting is the answer..... if players just DC, they hinder themselves from getting better and possibly learning a better way of playing the game..

Edit: I cant wait for the team to punish DC's because perhaps theyll leave and then I'll have a better chance of getting a better teammate... sheit, I'll take a rank 20 vs a player who DC because they dont wanna go against a Billy.

Michael Myers is getting looked at? First I've heard of this....not sure if I want changes...I absolutely love and have loved Mikey's playstyle and kit for 2 years now.... Sources?

The source is in the Q&A here on the forumns.... they have not said they're going to do anything with the kit yet... but really itll be nice if they give him some buffs, Id gladly play mikey often if he were more........ fun to play?..... right now it's a bore stalk, hit etc...........

  • On ps4 sometimes players just get randomly disconnected and say "no network connection" when clearly you're still have network connection..... it's quite stupid.... so dont take all disconnects as "rage quits"

  • Nothing is planned for spirit atm.... the doc, Michael and then the chainsaw killers are next..... also it would be bad for business if they devs were to change a character because the character is popular.... it's always better to build around that character.

Must've been insanely small bc I never noticed. Also I feel vigil was intended to work with the fact exhaustion perk recharge whilst running and is negatively impacted by the fact it doesn't anymore.

Vigil needs love that is a fact... more needs to be involved with vigil like have it affect mangled or whatever...

Maybe we can do the math and see how long this recovery would be?

The old version didn't have any reduction which is why it was op. This one works at 50% efficiency.

There actually was a reduction on the recovery while running....

  • Hes definitely on the rise.... difficult to learn and play but incredibly devastating when played to his potential

  • Recovery from exhaustion while running was wayy too strong and should never be brought back to the game....... unless it costs something big...

  • I dont wanna know any ending to this story/game until the final chapter is here.... which if bhvr has their way wont be for another 5 years

Only if its Julie or Susie ;)

Jokes aside I'd much rather killers get some sort of taunts.... I'd like to see the survivors get more as well.... but unfortunately this type of stuff is bottom shelf stuff.

  • Any emotes that were too come (asides for fortnut dancing do not add this devs) would be welcome.

  • No.... noed is fine as is... when you see a totem simply cleanse it.

  • Imo luck should go against certain status effects such as mangled, exhaustion etc..... it shouldnt affect certain aspects of the pvp all that much...

  • I don't prestige unless I love the character.. i don't feel the RNG increase is worth the grind.

Do you mean stuff along the lines of walking away from loops while she is in phase because of you making less noise or what do you mean.

its actually more beneficial to run if shes trying to do the stand still mindgame because you have a better opportunity to get to LOS blocker or a loop... . If you're healthy or have IW you can fake going towards loops but run away, run by pallets in stead of through pallets..... theres a lot you can do against spirit...

  • Yes theres other tactics that you can do as well to affect her... survivors just haven't thought of much because... well the tactics are out of the realm of looping (which still works while shes on cooldown)

  • @TragicSolitude said:

I'm sad I'm gonna see even fewer Nurses on PS4 than I already do. They're such a rarity.

  • There was a discussion about this a few days ago.... this would be a buff... if this is about gen grabs with prayer beeds removing collision wouldn't be worth that... honestly the beeds are the only thing that is in need of a change.....

If we wanna make the spirit more difficult yet staying the same level of...

Reduce the MS by a certain % maybe 2 or 3% .... make her depending on landing phases

Increase her phasewalk duration by 1 or 2 seconds

    Reduce the cooldown by 2

She would also need addon tweaks.... but this isnt happening anytime soon... it's been confirmed Doc, Michael and then the chainsaw killers are next.

Insta heals need to stop being compared to moris and let's not forget that the purple was made way more useful imo.
