To be honest, the game is there to have fun.

Yes, there are sweaty try hards at red ranks.

But there are also people who understand to have fun (the majority of my main group, a lot of killers I've met, etc.)

And honestly, the people who try and meme and try new things, instead of try harding for rank 1 even if they already have the achievement, are the people getting the most enjoyment out of the game.

You don't have to try hard to win, by the way. Trust me.

Of course, some people do have fun sweating- but those same people also tend to rage a lot. Do you catch my drift?

Or some people actually have fun when they're trying their best?

I know that's weird to people, since we try to stigmatize it on the internet for some reason and call it "tryhard" or "sweaty", but some people - gasp - actually enjoy putting effort into things and improving.

  • Ok, then lets see if the matchmaking exploit is ever fixed. Not even talking about banning anyone because I don't think it's anywhere near a bannable offense, but just remove it.

No, because they want survivors to be good and happy and just enjoy rolling over whatever newbies they can. Nevermind what the killer experience is.

    That's so wrong.

I KNEW the first reply would be that as soon as I looked at it again.

Can we NOT plug in a survivor vs killer comment on a random post for no reason at all? thanks

No, we can not not. Because it's the damn truth. Literally no one cares if survivors hack.

It's like walling in CS:GO casual matches, no one is actually gonna care about it. Because killers aren't real players to them.

  • As long as it's survivors doing it, devs won't care. Killers aren't real players.

If they thought it would make the game more sustainable to ban all killers and replace them with bots, they'd do it in a second. Everyone knows survivors are their real bread and butter.

When I play in SWF I don't know half of the stuff you're talking about even with a 4 man. I can't describe every land mark and so on and I don't know many who can so that level of information is an incredibly ridiculous thing to say even for a 4 man. Most people don't use aura reading in general anymore either. The only information I usually get is "He's on me", or information about where a specific totem might be in very vague detail.

I always get a kick out of this argument.

"Advantage? Well when we do it, we don't really use it! I promise! No big deal. Nothing to see here."

  • It's pretty normal for players to be suspicious of statements from developers, since it's not like developers or community representatives are in the business of publicly admitting to big problems, exploits, mistakes, and so on.

That's not just gaming, that goes for every business.

So yes, when they say, "This thing that the community is concerned about, it's no big deal. Nothing to see here." it's frequently cause for players to question it or dig deeper into the issue. (Which often - at least in games with accessible, consistent data - leads to players discovering the truth of an issue.)

    From the Dev stream:

"The performance of SWF groups isn't that much higher than solo survivors when looking at stats, despite how it may feel."

    So yeah, you're right.

    1) So they admit it's higher, at least.

    2) "Not that much higher" isn't an actual quantifiable value.

    3) Would a 5th killer perk cause performance to "not be that much higher"? Probably, so lets just do it.

  • The SWF groups are doing it intentionally.

    Set up a group that's 1, 1, 1, 20 and you'll get matched against rank 20 killers.

They know it, we know it, BHVR knows it, but since Killers aren't viewed as real players none of those three groups actually cares.

  • @Orion said:

    What's "proxy camping"?

Literally just translates to, "I want to complain but the killer was actually pretty far away and just came running when they heard the unhook sound. Lets make a new term for that."

  • Saying that this forum made you a better person sounds a lot like saying that ice made you warmer, but if so, then more power to ya.

  • It is actually kinda funny, I feel far more...pressure? Anxious? Playing killer compared to playing survivor.

Not only is the killer the one that's on the constant timer, feeling pressure about every second they spend doing something, survivors are also like horror movie villains themselves.

Chainsaw them down, hang them on a meathook through their chest, they're sprinting around two seconds later like nothing happened. Find them again, club them twice with a hammer, hang them on ANOTHER meathook, and they're sprinting around at full speed again in a second, attacking you with a broken shard of glass or something, forcing you to evade them instead of the other way around.

When I play survivor I just do whatever and move behind a rock now and then, and if I get caught well that's just how it is, it's not really a "pressure" situation.

  • I don't actually like Mori's, so I don't use them.

But hey, survivors are nearly Jason Voorhees level durability, and a killer can't take a little flashlight waving at them. So I wonder who the REAL horror villains are in the equation? Gotta work really, really hard to actually kill those survivors.

  • It's funny when even survivor mains will tell you not to bother playing killer because survivors are such pricks at all times and, "That's just Dead by Daylight, man, sorry."

  • image.png

Yeah, sure, seems legit. Especially when I'm on a killer that's level 1 because I'm just trying it out.

  • It's damn near every time I down someone lately, yeah.

I joked in another thread that sometimes they end up so far away that I start wondering if DbD has implemented ragdoll physics and I just knocked them that far.

Is that all? Feel like it should also wipe out their account info and delete the game off their computer, lol.

I agree, but I didn't want to be too harsh on survivors.

  • Iri Heads should not only down the survivor, but instantly Mori them too.

Just accepting you probably will lose and you are there for the survivors amusement is absurd.

It's pretty much what the community tells killers to think, though. It's kinda sad.

  • And next game, 4-stack with 5, 5, 7, 18. Of course the rank 18 player made sure to get in my face all game so they died and stayed low.

I congratulated them on their easy path to rank 1, everyone pretended like they had no clue.

  • Yep, next game, same thing. Red ranks lobbied up with a rank 19. (Although it was a 3-stack this time)

It's one thing for it to be a little buggy, but for it to be so blatantly exploitable is absurd. This would absolutely murder any potential new player experience.

  • I sometimes do, but it's so easy for SWF groups to completely bully a killer sometimes - especially when they choose to exploit the matchmaking - that you just feel like a bystander to their pipping to red rank.

Seriously, knowing that a rank 3 survivor is going to pip against a rank 20 killer is kinda sad. All because they chose to run a 4-stack of 3 red ranks and one rank 20.

  • @johnmwarner said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1280817#Comment_1280817

Which is how it used to be, then they changed it to be matched based on the best survivor so that 1 2 1 18 should be racing a rank 1-2 killer... but people whined and now they’ve stealthed it back but blame it on the matchmaking error they’re “looking into”

Yeah, when people ask why it's so easy to rank up fast as survivor, this is pretty much a prime example.

Four games in a row tonight were SWF groups with 3 higher ranked people and one rank 18-20. Yeah, totally a coincidence, they don't know what they're doing, right?

  • People are doing this ######### purposefully now, too, and you know it.

1, 2, 1, 18 SWF group, yeah what a strange coincidence that I keep running into these, gosh it's just so random. 🙄

  • I don't believe that there's going to be any kind of rules/enforcement on a killer that's just "playing poorly".

Hell, I do it sometimes when I have a challenge for a killer that I never play and is level 1.

The only real risk can be that survivors will often still play extremely sweaty and escape as fast as possible and realize too late that they're all depipping for it and then yell at you. 🤣

  • Are you SURE you're not doing anything to get as much abuse as you're claiming? Because seriously, while there are ######### and toxic people, I've never heard of the level of harassment and in-game trolling that you're describing here.

Either you're blowing this out of proportion, or you have some hand in what's going on. (Why are you announcing your perks in lobby, anyway? No one needs to know you're running WGLF.)

  • Every time SWF comes up people talk about, "Yeah, but some groups are still bad anyway, so it's not a big deal."

I still wonder if people would feel that way about big killer advantages. Give killers a 5th perk and would people say, "Sure, but some killers are bad and will still lose! And a good killer would beat you with 4 perks anyway! So 5th perk is fine."

    Probably not!

The fact is that SWF is an economic reality more than anything else. I'd say there's about a 99% chance that the devs know that it's a huge advantage but won't say so openly, of course, and can't do much about it. It's just something we all get to deal with.

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

SWF is not that big of an advantage when you can play against a solo queue optimal team that can demolish you.

SWF doesn't mean the team is good. I've played with many many players (not in a SWF) who played as good as a 4-man swf.

People say that, but it clearly IS an advantage. Whether it's well-utilized or not.

It'd be like saying that a 5th perk for killers might not be that big of a deal because a good killer could kill you with only 4 perks.

  • The funniest thing about killer challenges is when you're playing some killer that you rarely play, have no perks, and really are just goofing around trying to get a challenge done...and there's always that ONE survivor that you can tell is starting to think they're hot stuff because you're not really pressuring them hard.

Then you get serious for a second and slap their cocky selves down and let them be the one death that happens all game.

  • I'll probably never get rank 1, but it's due to a lack of commitment, not because of someone elses' fault, or for my opponents actually playing well and putting effort in. (I know! How crazy!!)

I've had the game for almost two months now and still only about 90 hours played, and a lot of that was just sitting reading all the silly lore on each character and putzing around in queue. I do manage to 4k red rank teams, though. You've just gotta learn!

  • I usually call things by their "real" name, but my wife pretty much always calls things by some kind of description.

Leatherface is, "Chainsaw guy" and Hillbilly is "Running chainsaw guy"

    Nurse is, "Screaming lady"

    You get the idea. 😁

  • "Boneless Wings" are just called that so insecure adults who are worried about "doing kid stuff" will eat some chicken nuggets.

  • "Why do the developers let survivors not do their objective and constantly tell me where they are?"

Oh, uh...um...I dunno...why would they NOT let them, and why would I want them to stop? 🤔

  • I still love playing killer and have no big, game-breaking, overly-frustrating issues. So I dunno.

Also play survivor with my wife (She plays zero killer, 100% survivor) to do tome quests and such, and that experience is perfectly fine as well.

Most people just complain because of extreme salt or too much bias, that's all.

Darn i'm sorry that the intention behind my post that I made wasn't actually the intention and the one you got from it was the real one all along.

Hey while your at it typing away on a new one because you can't let this drop for some reason, like a child always having to get in the last word could you ask yourself if this is making you a better person to annoy me on discussion forms.

Damn man, it's been like a full week now and you're still arguing that when you said, "Hitscan for Deathslinger bullets" you weren't wrong. 😂

You could have avoided all this days ago if you just said you misspoke, or made a mistake or something. But noooooo.

  • @finitethrills said:

Pinhead is really the only iconic one on that list.

While I like Candyman, and dearly love Phantasm, they were both both movies with very little mainstream presence and mostly a niche, cult following.

Iconic is literally in the name. You can go anywhere in the world and show people a certain hockey mask, and it will be instantly recognized. The silhouette of a xenomorph, or the face hugger. A glove made out of knives. A guy with a head full of nails, a little doll with crazy hair. A green guy with bolts in his neck. Etc. Those are icons. Candyman wasn't really widespread enough to ever reach it, even after it's cult status well after release. The tall man just isn't unique enough to trigger it. His little silver deathballs WOULD be, if it had been more popular.

That being said, I don't think those are excluded, necessarily. They are all well known to horror buffs, so it's certainly possibly BHVR is going to be using "iconic" kinda loosely considering the audience.

    Yep.

It's like I said in another thread, "Iconic" isn't really quantifiable, so people can use it loosely and it'll mean one thing to someone and another to someone else.

To some people, it's only the "Big 3" that are iconic at all. Jason, Freddy, Michael. They don't watch a lot of horror, so they don't even know the names of some of the others.

To some big wig at BHVR, Troll 2 could have been a huge influence on them. Somehow. Whatever.

So the usage of the word doesn't really exclude anything.

  • Almost everyone that has ever whined to me that I "tunneled" them was also the absolute worst survivor and dragged their teammates down by constantly being right out in the open for me to see or running in straight lines into dead zones. Or they over commit on a generator.

If you're hard to see, hard to catch, hard to down...you'll find that you won't get "tunneled" nearly as much. And before someone says, "But they were right there when I got unhooked!" then yell at your teammates, not the killer.

  • That Legion is actually pretty ok and their power isn't trash.

That the game is actually pretty fair, and concepts like tunneling and gen-rushing are just people whining.

It stops working for a reason: the game is over. If you make that perk work, killers would also know that, stand in front of the survivor and wait for it. Allowing the survivor to just waste a minute of everyones time.

    ...so?

    The game isn't over, though.

It's very, very likely over, but since when is it a good idea to just start disabling perks because, "Eh, probably won't matter."

What's the line on that, exactly? Should we start disabling other perks when we think that the game is, "Probably over"?

Besides, like I said, it's exactly situations like this that can be the most memorable and exciting. Denying it because, "Probably won't work" is a shame.

Hell, as a killer I've had a final survivor Kobe and escape. I figured the game was over, so I just stopped paying attention to the hook and started spamming my power for some extra Deviousness points and HOLY CRAP WHERE DID THEY GO?...aw, #########.... 🤣

  • Ehhh, hard to say.

I think it depends more on the specific challenge that which side the challenge is on.

  • Everyone will say, "Because it won't do anything, the killer will be right there!"

    ...so?

Seriously, "It might not help you" isn't a reason for a perk to just stop working for no reason. Besides, those exact situations are the best kinds of circumstances, the super unlikely rare outcomes where you managed to pull off something really unbelievable to escape.

What reason is there for Deliverance NOT to work in those situations?

  • If people are feeling salty, basically anything you say - or even if you say nothing - is going to be perceived as negative.

  • @DelsKibara said:

Wow... So those stutters wasn't actually from my Internet connection but it was someone DDOSing me?

JFC, people take this game too seriously.

People cry "DDOS!" about everything. Even though the chances of that actually happening are infinitesimally tiny.

Some streamers are especially the most paranoid people.

  • @DelsKibara said:

Wait crap, I mistook Rule Set No. 2 for something else. I'm dumb.

I thought Rule Set No. 2 was the one that disables Pig's ability to see Jigsaw Boxes in as well as give her only 1 Trap. It's 6 AM so my braincells are dying internally.

With that said, I don't agree with making this basekit for her. Mainly because her ability is to stall, meaning even without the threat of the Survivor's head popping, you would want them to waste time going around the map looking through Jigsaw Boxes, not working on Generators.

    Indeed.

It's the same misunderstanding that makes people mad about Legion's power: "But it never kills anyone!"

The bear traps aren't really meant to kill, they're meant to stall. Death is the penalty for failing to remove it because any other penalty could likely just be ignored. That doesn't mean they're meant to be a killing tool, or that something is wrong when it doesn't kill someone.

  • Developers are often afraid that without grinds, players won't play their games for very long.

It's a bit of insecurity, really. Granted, some genres (MMOs) are sort of predicated on grinds, but people somehow manage to play other games just fine for years without needing to grind some kind of currency.

If Chess were invented in the internet era, you'd start every game with just 7 pawns and a king. You'd have to unlock additional "Piece Slots" to get more pawns, and then unlock "Prestige Pieces" like Knights and Bishops by grinding your face off. Only the most no-lifers would manage to get a piece to Prestige 3 to get a Queen.

You are further proof that most people in the community are toxic.

I could not find the survivor, but I found the hatch first, but I was on Lampkin Lane so I lost them automatically.

A little sensitive there? Guilty conscience?

You'll note that I didn't say YOU were being a jerk at all. I even gave an out as my first thought.

But yeah, you sound just a tad defensive. Hm.

  • @Respectfulnancymain said:

Who said adrenaline isnt a second chance perk?

Out of curiosity why did you slug them then go close the hatch? Why not just kill them?

Maybe a quest to close a hatch...but yeah, most of the time this sounds like a killer trying to be a jerk when they think there's no consequence.
