Except Stranger Things is INFINITELY more popular and well known than Silent Hill, I'm not sure if you understand that TV and Movies are still infinitely bigger and older industries than video games. TV and Movies both reach a vastly wider and greater audience than video games do, that's why Dead By Daylight seeks out licenses from those mediums because TV and Movie genres popularized horror decades ago and created beloved characters with massive fan-bases like Jason Voorhees, Chucky, Pinhead, Pennywise, The Xenomorph from Alien, the list goes on.
Only gamers know what Silent Hill even is. Whereas you'll hear people of all different ages and backgrounds talking about the Halloween reboot, or this great new tv show that takes place in the 80s called Stranger Things.
Silent Hill is not going to happen. At least not right now, with all the theories going around about literally any and every licensed killer Pyramid Head is one of the DEAD LAST things people want to see.
Not because Pyramid Head isn't cool, or isn't scary, but people have it hyped up in their heads we could be seeing ######### Pinhead, or Pennywise, hell even though the lawsuit is going on a huge resurgence of F13 fans are saying it's Jason.
What we do know is that it's a "classic license" (BHVR'S OWN WORDS) and Silent Hill does not fit that bill.
Well, I would remind people that words like "classic" don't really have a strong, quantifiable measurement. So no, the usage of that word doesn't really exclude any possibilities.

Ah, yes, the uncropped version makes it much clearer. (Yes, I know what a skull is, people. :P )
The cropped version messed with the image enough to make it look like something else might have been going on.
-
This is actually a much better picture: https://media.playcentral.de/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/09101200/dbd4th-1920x1080-final-skull.jpg
Especially near the top, you can see a clear break in the foreground object and the background. There's no way that's a connected part of the foreground image. (You can kinda see the background through the "eye" as well)

Yes, it looks 100% like a human skull. Google it.
Yeah, thanks for the tip. π
Seriously, though. Unless the lighting and perspective is just weird, it looks like the entire upper left of the picture is just blank space. You can see the "wall" behind it.
There are enough other elements that make the think it's definitely meant to evoke thoughts of a skull, but I'm not sure that's really what it is.
-
I know the filename says skull, but does that look like a skull to anyone?
Especially the upper left area, it's just a giant hole. And the top part is just a long, massive flat thing.
-
LANDSHARK
-
i will say that if anything looks like Pyramid Head, it's the design of the "4" they're using. Not that it means anything.
-
Right now on Legion I'm running:
BBQ / Ruin / Discordance / Nurse
Honestly, I would probably change that up, but I don't actually have very many teachables, so that's what I've got to work with. Actually seems extremely effective, though.
-
You're a piggy.
Of course you end up on the farm.
Oink, piggy, oink!
-
Why are there so many more, "Don't complain about DS!" threads than there are actual threads complaining about DS? π€
-
I generally most enjoy fast-moving killers, so right now Legion has been the most fun for me. In spite of the reputation of being awful, I'm consistently having great matches. 3-4k nearly every game, even against purple-red ranks. And against lower ranks, hoo-boy is Legion a pubstomper.
I honestly think that if people get past the whole, "Can't even kill with the power!" issue in their minds and look at it as more of a strategic tool, they'd find Legion can often perform much better than people will lead you to believe.
Looking to try Oni next, but I'm not sure he'll have the same feel, even if he is considered better overall.
However, I just don't really like playing Billy. Yeah, he's great, and yeah he can zip around the map, but it's just not the same.
-
I pretty much never camp, because it simply isn't a winning strategy. If I were to camp against competent players, I would get run over.
When I do end up camping, it's because survivors practically followed me to the hook and insisted on also being hooked themselves. All because they were too thirsty for unhooking points or something.
The punishment for camping is already pretty much built-in. It's a losing strategy.
-
People keep talking about "sweaty" players and how people should just let up and be more "fun".
Except that's not "fun" to everyone. Some people think goofing around is fun, some people think that playing to win is fun.
The only problem is that both of these players get put into the same matches routinely. In most games, they'd be separated by rank or social circle fairly quickly.
-
....Delegion?
kek
-
I would consider camping to be the practice of standing at a hook - in defiance of other, more important objectives - for no other reason than to secure a kill when it's not the best play.
(Sometimes it IS the best play, but not all that often.)
I'm not a fan of it and I generally won't do it. But if I walk five feet away and the person is already unhooked, you can be fairly sure that I'm gonna be back at that hook with some haste. π
-
No it should not. ποΈ

The purpose remains the same, to embolden survivors and allow them to take more risks.
Indeed.
Although, this creates an interesting shift in the dynamic of the discussion.
So the argument will no longer revolve around, "It's an anti-tunneling perk!" and instead the fact that it's a "risk-taking perk". (Which I actually agreed with already) The nature of those risks is that they're exponentially stronger in the endgame compared to early-game. Meaning the ideal strategy would seem to be to force people to burn DS early.
Thus, the correct - community accepted - counter to DS would now seem to be...to tunnel!

I dunno. Feels more like they steadily walked it back after the initial claim instead of owning it. Considering that their first post was literally just:
"Hitscan for bullets (deathslinger)
Hit box for projectile (huntress)"
I'm understandably suspicious. π
Does it matter now? Nah, not so much, it has been hashed out and I don't think anyone misunderstands now.

Not really, the term just had no place in the discussion.
It's not "like a hitscan" or "affecting it like a hitscan" or anything remotely relating to or similar to hitscan in any way. They're just mixing up terms for no reason.

Yes for the love of god I was comparing the hatchet to the big hitbox and the harpoon to the small one because that is effectively equal to what they hit in game
Yes, and I already addressed that. It was your constant use of "hitscan" and "affects it like hitscan" and such that I was pointing out was simply not useful or correct at all.
It's a small projectile. That's it. You don't need to compare it to "hitscan" because it's just nonsensical to do so. Size of a projectile has nothing to do with "hitscan" or not.
-
@Waffleyumboy said:

Ah so you weren't speaking literally, just trying to make a logical comparison? Could've put that nicer a bit earlier, but I understand where you're coming from now. It's a pretty good comparison, hitbox = large, slow moving, hatchets. Hitscan = fast, linear, harpoon.
Right, which is why I said he was describing a pinpoint projectile, not anything having to do with "hitscan". For some reason he just kept on with the term for several posts for some reason. There's really nothing to compare between a projectile and a hitscan interaction, no matter how small the projectile is. It's just not applicable in any way.
(He also used the word "splash" with regards to Huntress axes which, again...not sure where they're getting these terms. Just stick to what they are.)

https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/698/P8GIC4JL9S3R.png
I will now put this in simple words to make my point once more
Hatchet big and hit big red hitbox
Spear tiny and hit little hitboxes on body
I like how you keep trying to act smug about this and insult me, when the only fact here is that you were using the word "hitscan" when it doesn't apply to ANY part of the mechanics in play.
That's it. That's the only fact here. Just stop using the word, there's no place for it.

heres an example that will be the last chance I give you before I stop trying to make you understand
Hitscan and projectiles can share the same hitbox (shocker) a good example of how deathslingers weapon functions is a projectile that affects the smaller hitbox, not the splash hitbox (bigger hitbox) that huntress effects. Just because I used the phrase hitscan hitbox doesnt mean I think that the PROJECTILE THAT I LITERALLY STATED ABOVE MOVES AT 40m/s is a hitscan it just uses the same sized hitbox as if it was. Also not every word is wishy washy because that means it was exactly as I said because in the exact post you are showing it says AFFECTS THE HITBOXES AS IF IT WERE A HITSCAN as in its not a hitscan but affects the hitboxes as if it were a hitscan (double shocker)
None of what you're saying needs the term "hitscan" involved at all. There is absolutely no element of hitscan or anything like it in play here.
Deathslinger projectile is a projectile. It moves and interacts with a hitbox upon collision. That's it.
There is no "affects it like a hitscan" because that's just not a thing. You can just leave that word out entirely.

@bjorksnas said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1262446#Comment_1262446
Alright more details it is
In comparison a game like tf2 has 2 hitboxes the hitscan hitbox which only covers the model itself and the splash damage and melee hitbox which covers far outside the model as a single hitbox so it doesn't hit multiple times and doesn't feel to clunky.
The Deathslingers Spear affects the hitboxes as if it were a hitscan weapon only landing hits if it directly intersects with the model with a slight bit of give to the surrounding space.
The huntresses hatchets function as if it were splash damage affecting the bigger pill shaped melee hitboxes of survivors so it feels a lot more lenient and at times unfair to the survivors for how forgiving it can be.
They are both projectiles I was just making a comparison to the hitboxes they affect.
But none of this has anything to with what hitscan means. You're really just describing a pinpoint projectile.
"Hitscan" precisely means that something is NOT a projectile in any way. It does not have a speed, does not travel in the adjoining space, and does not collide with other objects. It is literally placing your mouse over a target and it is "hit" the instant you press the button.
-
@BadMrFrosty said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1262417#Comment_1262417
Well, the hitboxes -are- an issue, and the fact that you think they're not is baffling. In no way are those pills accurate to the actual shape of your characters. You even have videos showing the massive disparity between the size of the hitbox and the character. I mean, come on man.
Also, if the servers are the main problem.. well, what does it take to get -better- servers? Surely there's no shortage of income at the rate cosmetics come out. Maybe more of the cash flow could be redirected to better servers and the overall health of the game? Y'know, long term. These kinds of issues wouldn't be left as long in most other games with any sort of playerbase to speak of. People have limits, and this will eventually reach boiling point and cost DBD numbers.
The hitboxes are actually pretty average compared to other games, honestly. Especially for a game where extreme precision isn't really a factor most of the time and there are no head/leg/etc shots.
-
@bjorksnas said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1262417#Comment_1262417
Actually they can both move at the same speed a max speed hatchet and the spear both move at 40m/s I was just making a closer comparison for what they react to for hitboxes in comparison to other games. Comparing deathslingers projectile to hitscan because it only affects the relative physical hitbox where the character actually is and the secondary pill hitbox for huntress because her projectiles affect the general area around the survivor as well.
But that's not what hitscan means. It's still a projectile, it has a speed, traverses a distance and has an applicable (albeit very short) travel time.

"Those aren't fake rules"
Uh, yes, they are exactly the very definition of a fake rule. No one will enforce it, it's not written anywhere. It's literally YOU claiming that it's a "rule" that the killer must let you do as you please.
-
@DelsKibara said:
Isn't Huntress' hatchets more of a hitscan rather than an actual hitbox?
A hitbox would be something like Deathslilnger's projectile. it needs to connect with the Survivor to land a hit. But Huntress' hitscan is much larger than the model. It's the same reason why people think Freddy has a longer lunge than he actually has.
Well, no, that's not what hitscan means. Hitscan refers to an interaction that's instantaneous upon pulling the "trigger", without regard to distance, travel time, or anything else. (Think of clicking a button on a webpage with your mouse.)
The axe is a projectile with a hitbox. Moving objects or objects with geometry more complex than a cube will often have hitboxes that are larger than their model suggests. Because a hitbox that's simply...well, a "box" is simpler for the developers and - more importantly - it's easier for the system to manage hit detection.
So that survivor with their character hugging a corner will likely get hit by a passing projectile, simply because their hitbox is one - or a handful of - cuboids surrounding their visual model, and is likely sticking out from around that corner.
People often clamor for "accurate hitboxes" but you'd be hard-pressed to find a game that's played in a 3-dimensional (Or even 2-dimensional, honestly) environment that actually has pixel-accurate hit detection. It's simply too expensive.
Edit: I guess DbD uses pills and not actual cuboids, but all the other details are largely the same.

its not entitlement at all my op was pointing out an issue that a lot of people agree is present but people wont say anything because they know people like you will just invalidate them. and it is the killer's fault for playing like garbage and whether its a safe or unsafe save im not the type to just let a teammate hang there on the hook until they die? that is so stupid

*yawn* another Killer main who can only use the phrases "entitled" and "whining" because you refuse to have an actual legitimate reason why you should be freely allowed to play like a selfish ######### and not be considerate of others when you play a multi-player game. So original. π
News flash, this is not Overwatch in any way, shape or form. Nor should it be - that game is dead.
And there is no such thing as a free unhook. Its just an unhook, bruh. Just like there's no such thing as gen rushing, it's just doing gens. π
Again, Killers have other objectives for a reason. Not playing to them breaks the intent of the game and the emblem system. Using tactics that intentionally ruin others people's games for your own enjoyment is tacky, cheap, lazy, inconsiderate, and truly what entitlement is all about. You are welcome to be belligerent and exaggerate the issues to try and make your point seem more valid, but it does not.
*shrug*
Beating someone in a PvP game is "tacky, cheap, lazy, inconsiderate, and truly what entitlement is all about" now?
Again, you're EXACTLY the type of player I talked about in my longer post. You walk into a game that's predicated on beating your opponent and proceed to insist that they only attack when you approve of it, that they only use a strategy when you give it the ok, that they go out of their way to ensure that your "fun" is preserved, their own enjoyment or progress be damned because your way is the "right way".
You're EXACTLY the type of player that Sirlin talked about in the "Playing to Win" article that circulates in almost every competitive community. You're the "scrub mentality" player that claims things are "cheap" or that a strategy "isn't fun". That strategies other people are using to win are "no-skill" strategies somehow.
The fault here lies in the matchmaking. In almost any other PvP oriented game, the "Plays for fun" people would be separated from the "Playing to win" people very quickly by virtue of their ranking or other factors. But here, they're forced together, and the result is players like yourself running to the forums regularly.

were not begging for free unhooks were literally confused as to why its wired into the game and the killer's point system to not camp and prevent gens from being done by not camping and patrolling gens? survivors complaining or "whining" about this should ring some bells for you.
Here's the thing: Camping is already largely self-defeating for the killer outside of certain specific situations.
UNLESS...you walk right up to them so they can hit you. That's literally the only way a camping killer gets you. He doesn't have Stretch Armstrong limbs to reach across the map and grab you off a gen.
Let the camper defeat themselves and move onto the next game. Throwing a tantrum because you wanted them to do something else isn't going to change what's happening.

It's "fine" to let the teammate die and get out in that situation, as to not reward the killer, but to the OP's point, it's NOT fine that the Killer selected a survivor at random to completely ruin their match / made sure none of the other survivors can meet at most of their emblem requirements, and that they are rewarded for that behavior.
This is a perfect example of what I was talking about in my post.
Lalythia is Tommy the Survivor, complaining that the killer "isn't leaving me alone so I can have fun". Blaming the killer for playing the game and railing about how unfair it is, like a "No Rush" StarCraft player throwing a fit over their opponent attacking them before they said it was ok to do so.
You can't match Lalythia with a killer who enjoys improving and winning, because they have such disparate goals in the game. Someone is going to be upset.
-
Because players with disparate goals are routinely matched together. It's why some killers whine about "gen rushing" and survivors whine about such weird concepts as "tunneling".
In other games, players would be separated fairly quickly. If you're a StarCraft player that has fun playing to win and improving, you'll very quickly move up in rank and you won't get matched with the players who type, "No Rush 15 min plz" in chat. (And vice versa, of course) It's the same in most every game that focuses on player vs. player content. But not DbD. At least not right now. DbD's matchmaking will pit pretty much anyone against anyone, and rank is fairly meaningless to boot.
So Tommy the Survivor who just wants to skip around the map and throw random pallets for no reason because it's fun gets matched up against SCP-096 and gets slaughtered the moment they see him. Then Tommy gets upset that the killer won't, "Just leave me alone so I can have fun!" and hears the term "tunneling" from someone in post-game chat and another angry forum post is born.
Likewise, Billy the New Killer who just "wants to have fun slapping people" gets matched against SWF Team 6 who finishes 5 gens in 7.4 seconds. Billy is pissed that they did something so "cheap" and runs off to demand answers on what the developers are going to do to ensure he doesn't get "cheaped out" like that again, because survivors should have to face his wrath.
In other games these players would very quickly be separated from one another. But not DbD. Tommy will keep getting slaughtered, Billy will never catch those survivors, and the players who are facing them will keep getting yelled at for being "cheap" and "unfair".

It isn't the norm for everyone at all. Campers come out with next to no BP. If a tunneller chooses the wrong person to try and tunnel, same thing, next to no points.
Playing like a dick by camping and tunnelling isn't a positive. I know you think you're a good player when you do it but you're not.
I'd rather just play a fair game where I try and ensure everyone has a pleasant time than play like a dick and then say bullshit about "salt" in the endgame chat. "Oh you're so salty, I love it" of course you do, you play like a ######### to get attention because you're starved of it elsewhere.
I don't main either side, I play both up to rank 1. So don't give me the survivor rulebook bullshit. I just don't subscribe to the play like a ######### book.
That's an awful lot of assuming about what I do or don't do, with insults to go along with them.
I guess it's ok if you like to jump into conversations and start chewing someone out and insulting them over what you assume their gameplay is, all while trying to paint yourself as the better person. Kinda ironic, but you do you I guess.

Yes, there are some ridicolous situations. I was playing survivor. I take the hook, a mate unhook me, the killer tunnel me, i fall to the ground close a mate on the hook, the killer take DS, i unhook the mate, i escape safely.
This is clearly a situation, i dont call it abuse, with PROS and CONS. if you abuse, like i did, you are after that in an unhealty situation. Your risk, you have the choice in game and i've choosed to take risks. If saving failed, i got second hook and probably i was finishing the match after that.
That actually sounds pretty normal, not all that ridiculous at all. It's well within the (presumed) intended use of the perk, and you spent a full perk slot just to do that one thing.
The instances where I think DS/BT get a little absurd are fairly specific and don't come up that often, which is why I don't really rail against them too much.

I'm not completely anti-DS btw, it just can be a bit ridiculous in some situations.

My main concern with solo is people practically killing you. I've gotten out of 3v1 games and stuff, so I'm not against trying to play even at a disadvantage, especially if it's a manageable killer like Legion that can actually be looped and I can try to waste his time.
Problem is, a lot of the time it feels worse than a 3v1. I feel like a lot of times I play solo I'm wondering what I can actually report people for. I know people shouldn't be punished for just being a gen jockey or whatever, but some people will literally just unhook you right in front of the killer without BTW or anything, or refuse to save you until you hit 2nd hook state even though they're sitting right next to you working on a generator while you're hooked. People just do things to me that practically kill me just as fast as the killer, and as I said, it just makes me think "how much of this stuff can I actually report them for?"
My teammate: "Yo, you're being chased and headed for that pallet? Lemme drop it real fast and stand on this side of it. No need to thank me, buddy. Catch ya on the flip!"

- It's called being a 'good sport'
- You'd get punched in the mouth
Consequences. It's all about consequences. They do it because they think they can get away with it. The devs need to show them they can't.

Again, emblems and high BP is literally just the standard for killers. You'd practically have to AFK to not get a lot of BP as a killer, it's not something special that you're doing by following the *hidden rules*.

It can just wear you down until you don't really feel like playing, or you end up avoiding playing certain characters or perks because all anyone does is whine and moan about them.
It's sad, because honestly the game can be very fun and doing well can feel rewarding. And a friendly lobby after a match can be fun as well. But it's all so rare, you usually just get chewed out for playing wrong, playing the wrong character, using the wrong perk, chasing the wrong person, and so on.
