Anybody who looks at the history of this game can see the steady move towards killers. Understand I don't disagree with most of what's been done. Old BnP were ridiculous. Insta heals were honestly just kinda unfair.

The devs have been, very slowly, moving the needle towards a balanced game. They have things to do still. Some of the maps desperately need shrinking. I'm looking at you Red Forest. But other than map changes, and fixing MM. The game is pretty balanced.

I've only played since right before Freddy release, but in the history of my playing, I feel like survivors have only gotten stronger over time. I mostly play survivor, and it's not that I've gotten better.

What are some of the things you see that have made killer stronger?

  • I started playing shortly after the PS4 release. I have never taken a break of more than a week or so (to travel). I may do so now.

The game is in a weird state and I'm not sure it's the fault of the devs. Camping is at a height (which I get isn't the biggest problem), toxicity is on the rise, and things have gotten a bit predictable and stale (as they do over time and with so much playing). Playing solo as survivor can be the worst experience (if you're alongside SWFs) and killer against a SWF can be rough.

All of this said, I do love this game. I wish there were measures taken in the game to offer players incentives to not camp as killer, to help SWFs take care of a random other survivor, and to generally shake up perks, items, and the meta as a whole.

  • I wish 3-man SWF had more reason to be invested in that other random person. Too often, the random seems to become a sacrificial pawn.

  • I'm going to go ahead and pretty much agree. Camping has been a lot more frequent in my personal experience on PS4 red/purple ranks. Usually it's almost non-existent in this rank, but over half of my games have been with super-campy killers. Now, I know "camping is a strategy" and it's not against the rules or cheating, but it is frustrating. I've been trying to complete the "save a survivor who saved you earlier" goal and between campers and people suiciding on hook, it hasn't been easy. Hoping for less frustration with this today.

  • I think the only solution to camping (which isn't exactly a problem) is to remove any incentive to do it. Perhaps if the killer says in X meters of the hook for X seconds, the survivor's red gauge at the bottom turns purple, indicating that they're being camped and causing the hook progression to slow by 50%. However, if they killer is in a chase with a different survivor, this goes away. Maybe that would help killers to care less about camping.

  • Like an hour and 40 minutes.

  • The worst part is when they're crazy high ranks like this AND a SWF. Something's gotta give at that point.

  • My current mental odds:

    25% chance it's Jason / Friday the 13th.

    23% chance it's Candyman.

    22% chance it's Pennywise / It.

    16% chance it's Pinhead / Hellraiser.

    4% chance it's Xenomorph / Alien.

    3% chance it's Pyramidhead / Silent Hill.

    2% chance it's Hatchet / Victor Crowley.

    1.5% chance it's Predator.

    1% chance it's Leprechaun.

    .9% chance it's Slenderman.

    .8% chance it's Terminator.

.7% chance it's BabyFace / Happy Death Day.

    .6% chance it's Angela / Sleepaway Camp.

.5% chance it's the Sanderson Sisters / Hocus Pocus.

    .4% chance it's RuPaul.

    .3% chance it's Willy Wonka.

.15% chance it's Jersey Devil / Jeepers Creepers.

.04% chance it's Scooby Doo related.

    .01% chance it's Mathieu Cote.

  • I do know someone who did this on PC and got banned.

But I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Just got out of a match where I feel like I should've gotten it, between gens and healing teammates, but I wasn't credited. There was another Dwight also running leader, would this affect the challenge at all?

For what it's worth, I thought I completed it several times yesterday- but I just couldn't. Then today I login and its somehow complete.

  • Thanks for asking this question. I've had more difficulty completing this one than expected (working on gens with others, generally). One game I nearly got three full gens and it didn't happen, but I'm hopeful that I'll finish it soon. Any tips?

  • The first thing I notice is the one survivor who had a really rough game. That's been me, lately. SWF and they either refuse to unhook me, lead the killer to me when they're chased, or just generally seem to enjoy bullying the other survivors (and the killer). Something has to change, and while, yes, I have friends I can play with sometimes, it's not a blast to ever play solo with people like that.

  • When creating Tome challenges, does the team ever consider the implications for the player community? For example: the challenge for Dwight to hide near killer a long time could lead fewer gens being completed. Previously, the hatch challenge meant some standoffs between survivors. Is this a concern at all?

I would love for jason to be added but as it stands the lawsuit is still happening and even when it ends one of them can still appeal the decision and it'll last a lot longer.

According to a lot of reports, it was basically over and then COVID came along and made us wait a bit longer...

  • I've always thought giving solo survivors a fifth perk spot would help a lot.

  • I see you're on PS4. This game can be better with friends, so if you'd like one, I'm around.

But yeah, there should be more incentive for SWF to treat solos better.

  • I did it with Doctor (and on my first try). My perks were NoED, Blood Warden, and two others (didn't matter).

For the whole match I just ran around shocking them. They quickly began to get silly and when all the gens finished, they were still being silly and I quickly downed 3 of them. Hooked one, the other ran for the gates, so I downed them and hooked them. One of the others recovered, got the first person off the hook and they ran for the gates butttt- Blood Warden. Ended up getting a solid 3K.

  • Ruin and BBQ need to be visited because most games involve both.

And I hope the devs don't destroy them. There are itty bitty nerfs that could work.

  • What if the first mori had to be someone dead on hook and thereafter its anyone hooked?

  • The key to this is that it's a cooperative game. Meaning- you must choose to cooperate. There are existing incentives and indirect penalties for doing so.

Tell me how I needed Ruin please in this 12 minute game where they got 2 gens done. I'm tired of people acting like Ruin is the only option available to anyone. Some people dont rely on it because they no longer need it or realized relying on it and making excuses is a handicap on yourself.

Btw not a Trapper main and yeah I have Ruin for him.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/641/1YTGCB38S329.jpg

I appreciate the flex, but one game (or player) doesn't really prove a point.n

I'm all for the health of this game on both sides and Ruin is ridiculously always going to be the go-to perk of EVERY killer. Not using it is harder mode (and you do well with this).

There needs to be a mild change and I actually do like the OP's idea. One perk in the entire game turns skill checks red and that's the thing me and my newbie friends freak over. Seems a bit much.

  • Eh I did it with Left Behind and a good key.

    It's a challenge. It's life now.

  • I've always thought Spies from the Shadows should reveal a survivor's aura when they make a bird crow for 1-2 seconds.

    Just another thing SWF breaks

    I get this until I'm a rank 7 and matched with a 13, 18, 18 (I don't know any of them) against a Rank 5 killer.

    That shouldn't happen, right?

  • So, I was one of the people a bit taken aback by these challenges (though mainly because of what they were instantly doing to the community).

I've gotten to the epilogue but still have 3 challenges left: blind killer while they're holding someone, unhook 2 survivors during EGC, and hook 2 during the EGC.

  • It’s been a rough week for me too.

I hope in the future you come back to a happier game.

Not to mention that these great challenges turned the game into a complete dumpsterfire once again. BHVR didn't learn. They will never learn.

I'm absolutely done with this hot piece of garbage at this point. Whole team can go choke on a .45 for all I care.

As someone who hopes to support the devs, BHVR, and the game for as long as it can last...

...you're right. Some challenges have dramatically altered how the game is played. Again, it is probably really difficult to come up with unique challenges for this game, but for now basement camping (as one example) is all too common.

  • @nos4a2 said:

My tome challenges that were supposed to be adjusted aren’t adjusted on ps4. Anyone else with this issue ?

My recommendation- and I realize this requires doing some of the annoying ones- is to do each challenge you can to the point that it will count for when things go live.

For example, I've healed others 10 states, escaped 5 trials, etc.

  • @Vetrathene said:

Why should survivors even get a possible escape if they get owned by the killer?

I agree with this in general.

It sucks in solo being that one person who cleaned totems, unhooked, and did gens while the others were worthless, though.

I think the current endgame still has issues and I suspect it always will.

  • I did it a few days ago as Wraith so it definitely works.

As it should. You could if it was reality.

That’s what’s killing the game though! A lot of us wanna play the game properly, actually play the game to survive or kill.... but to many of y’all are just trying to gain points, and levels and shards... that it ruins the actual game itself

I absolutely agree. That’s what has me pretty annoyed.

I will never personally attack anyone. Calling somebody trash is different than spewing out racist/homophobic slurs that MOST people know is uncalled for and highly offensive.

If somebody calls me trash then that’s great...I’m golden trash.

Somebody saying nasty slurs doesn’t personally offended me because I’ve always guarded myself with humor and sarcasm so I find the fact that they are THAT mad to say those insults to be funny.

Some people might not be the same way though so it doesn’t make it any better on who they throw insults at.

Keep up the positive approach! We need more of this in the community.

  • @MegMain98 said:

Any slur that could offended somebody is something that shouldn’t be tolerated. It just shows that they are disgusting people.

Microsoft and Sony are pretty good with giving people communication bans though.

I’ve been called basically every kinda slur through PS4 even though people have no idea who I am. I had to turn off my messages because it was affecting my gameplay. Like every single round I got some kind of nasty message even when I did nothing wrong.

It doesn’t personally affect me because I’m extremely quick-witted and sarcastic so I use people’s emotions against them. I guess it pays off to be a Scorpio XD.

This is a good approach (and PS4 does 72 hour bans when people use slurs on first offense).

I think the key to all of this isn't that we make apologies for every word anyone could be offended by. For example, if someone called me... a "chicken nugget." Well, that's just a weird thing to say, not offensive. But if someone WAS offended by this, I'd be surprised and wonder why. I probably wouldn't call them that again, but think it was a bit ridiculous.

The slurs I'm talking about are the ones the gaming community seems to employ too often that we all know are wrong. Many of us have grown up with them or become used to them. Doesn't change that it's wrong and we should know better.

It's almost like you can't tell me it's a slur because it's offensive to people, but since I'm part of that group you still feel some overwhelming need to be right.

I'm gonna let you sit in suspense while I watch some Wraith play. bbl~

It's a slur because it is offensive to a group of people. (Pretty much every slur is born out of a desire to hurt or mock a group of people, often born out of connections between stereotypes and other prejudice- even when self-imposed by the ingroup.)

I'm honestly not understanding what you're saying anymore (this last post uses some vague pronouns that make me question if you're talking about me, Azgard12, or you, SonicOffline) and by now you seem really distracted and a bit lost in this conversation.

  • @SonicOffline said:

Someone here is starting to sound quite totalitarian. Please stop.

USE MY WORDS OR SUFFER LMAO KLMAO

I'm not telling you what words to use. You have freedom of speech. But even on here, there are limits- there are rules.

Instead of attacking me or directing me to stop and give you a safe space (there's a lot of irony in some of your posts here), I'd love to hear more about what you're trying to communicate. So far it seems to me you're saying it's okay to use slurs because you think some people deserve to be called them if they fit an abstract definition? I'm sure I'm missing something you're saying, so please explain a bit more.

  • @SonicOffline said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/873251#Comment_873251

I do use that defense in the real world, because it's true. I'm literally protected legally by the first amendment in the real world. I'm not protected by repercussions of people who are mad at it's use, but that's frankly half the reason to use the word; for the value you get out of it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/873238#Comment_873238

That's basically how I look at it. "You're doing something I consider annoying and that word sums up my feelings faster than explaining them." Relatively, "If you don't like being called that word, stop behaving in a way that makes people want to use that word."

You're getting a bit away from the point here, but also adding to what I'm saying.

In the real world, if someone uses a slur against someone, it can be grounds for different consequences. You seem to agree with this?

And for the record, using a slur that is a group you belong to still doesn't protect you from consequence either.

  • @SonicOffline said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/873204#Comment_873204

You mean an interpretation you're willing to accept. YOUR lexicon is not the dictionary defining the rest of the world.

    Sorry not sorry.

Try using that as a defense in the real world and see how far it gets you. Slurs are slurs- that is how the vast majority of the English speaking world sees this. You can bury your head in the sand and be sorry or not sorry, but on this topic, you're wrong. It's okay- these things can be tricky.

In the end, the answer is simple: be kind. Avoid words that aren't kind.

  • There's really not another interpretation for the word the OP is expressing other than a bundle of sticks, which... let's be real... nobody is using it to mean that.

  • If it's a slur against you, it likely changes how you take it.

It's easy to call a ton of words "silly." I don't think someone should have to put up with this. Even if you think that the game offers up a lot more abuse in murder and whatnot, someone shouldn't have to put up with attacks on who they are in the real world. This is a fantasy game: nobody is being slaughtered in real life.

Be kind. Even if a killer or survivor was toxic, nothing justifies real world attacks on a person's race, sexuality, gender, or anything about them in real life.

  • Here's a thought:

What if the last 2 weeks of the Rift the goals were lightened up a bit?

...No idea how to do this of what it compromises, but that way those who like the challenge can get ahead faster.

Maybe it doesn't solve anything. I dunno.

  • @Fibijean said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/872044#Comment_872044

That's absolutely fair enough. Thank you for being so kind and reasonable in your response. I can definitely understand your concerns, I just think that they would be more compelling coming from the point of view of someone who has made a solid attempt at completing the challenges and can speak from a place of experience.

Today is also the first day in a LONG LONG time that I am prematurely done with DBD for the playtime I have allotted.

I am a fan of BHVR and want the best for their company and their game. I was so excited for the Archives and Rift... literally it was something I looked forward to on a real-world marked it on my calendar level.

    But this isn't fun.

I'll try again Friday, but the games for me on PS4 mid-ranks have been plagued already. In 16 games I managed 6 safe unhooks but was also farmed into eternity.

Why must I choose between the Rift and having fun?

  • @LordGlint said:

I actually JUST finished the Trapper one for 5 traps. These are do-able.

So I may be much less skilled than you, but I went 14 games without being able to do the 4 traps goal.

I only got it due to a player who wanted to farm, basically.

    I hate farming.

So I'm conflicted about even attempting 5.

  • @Fibijean

Okay, I'll be patient and try these when I get to them. I still don't think they're great as they'll mess with people's perceptions of the game and how to play. It's something I worry about ruining the game- which I don't want. I appreciate your patience, but unlike so many issues, I do sometimes see this one as a bit of a critical concern of the community.

  • @not_Queef said:

Luckily I already completed the rift so these challenges only offer bloodpoints to me. No big deal to skip them :)

Well for me, I'm not worried so much about the Rift or even the challenges. It's the way it shifts the meta and makes everyone behave and play stupidly.

  • Five of five games so far with people wanting to farm. This just got boring.

(and they aren’t even to the hard challenges)

  • I mean I’ll try but this has already turned every game into a killer or survivor begging to farm.

I know there’s only so much you can with the game, but some of these challenges are just bland while being very difficult without farming.

  • So I’ll frequently get endgame messages- PS4 here. They’ll range from salt toward that they lost, gloating that they won, to things I never would have thought to whine about (I broke an unlit totem and that was rude, for example).

i have endlessly tried to approach every person with the same patience and positivity. Usually just saying awww man that sucks, maybe next game will be better and “do you want to be friends, we could team up!” Really trying to compliment someone on what they did well... even when it’s hard.

I have made about 20 friends over the past few years doing this. It’s totally worth it and I’m glad I know them- two are even friends I may meet in real life some day.

BUT- and this goes back to what OP is saying- often I feel worse about the world. The number of slurs, cancer threats, and hate speech are awful. As someone who’s had a form of cancer, it’s a weird pang to the soul, and as someone who was sometimes called a certain slur in the real world, that doesn’t help either. My reaction has been to report those messages on PS4 and block the person, though it often feels like screaming into the void, as I doubt Sony does anything.

People need to realize their words can have both positive and negative consequences. You can make friends, but you can also really hurt someone. And either way it’s the result of playing a silly (but fun) game.

  • I’m going to disagree and thank those responsible for the data again.

    We weren’t owed this.
