why do i always feel this would happen. look, you can just put settings on console to friends only. jesus dude. look i don't want to continue so don't start anything either gg

I get you. I'm not trying to cause you grief. But I've made a number of friends after matches and whatnot, which couldn't have happened if I blocked everyone but friends. I try my best to always keep a friendly outlook. I'm just saying the people who are toxic should be the ones cut off, not the victim.

  • @The_architect said:

just get rid of endgame chat. should close up any trashtalk. and for console users, just turn of notifications

In real life, when someone is being harassed, do you think the appropriate action is for them to cut off all contact with others?

  • @BigTimeGamer said:

I know you said not to say it but, whats wrong with just closing chat and moving to next game?

As an adult, I agree with you.

But if I had a kid, I wouldn't let them touch this game (aside from the fact it's rated M). Too many players want to either teach bad habits (sexism, racism, homophobia) or encourage them to do harm to themselves. I haven't actively reached out to message other players with anything negative in years, but I have probably had 20-30 instances of harassment, almost always for playing the game normally and as intended. I'm not looking down on them at all, but kids can sometimes take these words to be more important than they should be. I have a life, a relationship, a job, other hobbies... For a kid, this might be their one outlet.

So I do and will continue to report things like this, because while I shrug it off, the next target might be a kid (or adult even) who is not in a happy mental place.

  • This is why I've started playing survivor more. At least as my preferred killers, when I'm in yellow/green I rank up too quickly and then hate playing in red, where I get stomped to the point it isn't fun. But maybe the MMR changes will help this.

  • Maybe.

But her premium hair is just so voluptuous.

  • I sometimes wish DS was scrapped in favor of an item (shard of glass) that is very rare.

It is. As I said, people use the term invesment to describe buying a bigger TV. It is not and never will be an investment.

Oh I agree. The time something occupies my brain in meaningful ways is worth it to me.

There's also secondary benefits. I got a roommate out of playing DBD who pays rent. So in a way, DBD helped me make some income. Now if only it could clean up his messes as well.

  • @DrDeepwound said:

"Could one not state that putting money into something for the joy it could return would also be an investment?"

No, people use this term to describe wasteful spending, but it is not an investment. You aren't investing money, you are spending money with no financial return.

    https://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/investment.asp

"An investment is an asset or item acquired with the goal of generating income or appreciation. In an economic sense, an investment is the purchase of goods that are not consumed today but are used in the future to create wealth."

I guess by that definition, all entertainment is wasteful spending.

Well the shrine shouldn't kill all survivors then, just 1?

EGC triggers when third survivor dies is best way to, well, end the game. The hatch should not exist, it's just a free out-of-jail for survivors.

Perky, I'm hearing you man, but if one survivor escaping through the hatch is worth deleting the hatch, realize you did win that game.

What if there was a perk that allowed the killer to lock the hatch during EGC but before it opens (1 survivor remains)?

  • There's a guy on PS4 I have played against too many times who has a knack for getting survivors into situations where they can't move. I've reported him 8+ times with footage. I've blocked him (though he found my YouTube account and comments there). Keep running into him in games and I just try to be very conscious of that and message the other survivors. He also likes to message the others survivors though that he's farming and they should help him block me in somewhere. And then it just gets worse.

    Anyways, moving on....

  • I wouldn't quite say she's OP, but she's very strong.

On PS4, I do have to admit that Spirit is my hardest killer to face. This could be in part that I'm not the best at the audio side of the game. I also struggle with the "mind games" aspect of phasing, something I thought I'd be good at. I lose chases more frequently against her (and Billy for that matter). I can win, but I certainly have the highest loss rate against her. I'd say she's the #1 killer currently, but welcome feedback (or advice).

  • I feel you OP.

I've been going for that 4x Tombstone Mori trophy for way too long. Every time I get close, someone DCs.

If someone's holding the game hostage, they get banned. Record the game for at least a few minutes before you DC. You'll get a 5 minute matchmaking ban, they'll get a week long game ban.

Glitches should also be recorded, but I try to play through the jankyness of DBD's bugs.

The other 2 are just frustration and not valid reasons to ruin the game for the other players.

I'm not trying to hijack your topic, but I have had zero luck with reporting people holding the game hostage on PS4. Still, I don't DC. I go take a shower, make a snack, and watch YouTube. I'm patient, just speaking to the times people DC where I feel a shred of understanding for it.

  • @DwightsBrokenArm said:

You really spend 500$ into this game? I wish I had that money to throw out without having to think about it lol

I've spent more money than I realized on this game: $30 for the base game + $96 for DLC + $20 for rift passes +$25 for cosmetics (charity, etc) = $171. Totally worth it.

And to the OP: just take a break. Either you'll be back or you'll find better things to fill your time with.

  • I absolutely agree (as someone who lives in a place with many storms and power surges). No reason to DC.

What do you think of these slightly different situations that are times I've seen people DC:

-The survivors are holding the game hostage.

-The killer is holding the game hostage (less viable to happen now, but used to be easier).

-The survivor is sick of playing against the same killer repeatedly.

-The killer's hex is broken at the game's onset.

-The survivor is missing their UI (somewhat common on PS4).

-The game is glitched in general.

I've only ever DC'd on the loading screen due to messages from other players indicating they are not wanting to play the game as intended (farming, trying to get the solo survivor killed). Even that feels scummy to me.

  • Why not remove gens and hooks as well? Just make it a race to a gate and be done with it all.

  • @PerkyPerky said:

I kind of agree with NOED part, I did not think much of a counter-advantage so much to show how absurd hatch is and (in my opinion) how it should of have never existed.

My solution was as I stated, no need for advantage for either side but once third survivor dies, it's EGC time (no hatch at all). I think that's fair, can you think of any fair solutions?

It's hard to think of an elegant solution without creating new perks or adding to base kits, admittedly. My goal would be Killers being a bit more scary, especially toward the end of the game. And as I side-note, I also think there need to be more totems in general...

  • @BigBrainMegMain said:

I've been knocking things out and camping each item.

Each Flashlight, each medkit, each toolbox, each key.

Franklin's is now an amazing perk.

Like sitting at the item until it disappears?

Why can't I play against more killers like you?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1498581#Comment_1498581

You are discussing NOED in a topic about killers should have an advantage similar to survivors having a hatch for playing poorly. How is that not off-topic?! Like how can I make it any more clear, please help me.

Maybe change the title of your topic then, as you bring up NOED there. 26 of the posts that follow before I even contribute also discuss NOED. It's the example you've made offered and defended. Again, I do think of NOED as training wheels (as I do of BBQ, Spine Chill and sometimes Self Care), in that these are perks I initially felt I needed to win. Later, I learned a bit more and started changing my builds to pay more attention to pressure and the state of the game.

That said, let me be one to say I think the game as it is now is Survivor-sided. I don't know that giving killers auto-NOED would change much except survivors would be more encouraged to do totems. Doing these would slow the game down a bit and be an inadvertent nerf to totems as a whole (if the survivors actually did them, barring Hallowed Ground).

In an earlier post, you mentioned that the EGC was a positive move, and that the hatch wasn't really the problem. Are there any other solutions you can think of? I genuinely wish Killers had a bit more in their corner, but I don't think NOED would do much.

  • @PerkyPerky said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1498573#Comment_1498573

NOED, was just used as a form of example of advantage a killer could have in case he ######### up like hatches are there for survivors who play poorly. I used it as an example because I am well aware of NOED-phobics. Should have used a different example, here: a shrine that randomly kills all survivors can be found once all gens are done, and survivors (4 of them!!) can close it. Is that fair to you? No? That's what hatches essentially are.

To be fair, the equivalent would randomly kill one survivor. That would actually be an interesting perk that I would never bring.

Though more can escape through the hatch (even all 4), it's a pretty lopsided game at that point at likely a SWF working against a killer who was having a rough time.

Nope. Read it again and again. If you need to chat go to a discord channel or something. We are here to discuss gameplay.

    Stick to topic please.

I've read the entire thread now. Anytime somebody brings up a valid point, you tell them they're wrong, off-topic, or don't understand. So take a moment, think back, and realize some people are actually trying to hear you and approach you with clarity and fairness. Saying people don't understand at this point is only a reflection of your choice to ignore others. Be respectful, please.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1498555#Comment_1498555

How is trying to do gens secure a chance of survival more than exit gates?! Do you play killer? Do you see the usual distance-delta between exit gates and how easily survivors can indeed escape even if one remains?

Also: if there should be a chance for last survivor after team obviously messed up, why is there no second chance for a killer once all gens are done?

There's a lot of assuming happening. Let's try a different angle.

So many people complain about NOED. I'll be fair here and say if they added it as a part of the killer's kit that always happened, the game wouldn't change much at all for me. I make a habit of cleansing totems and generally don't hang around much at the end of the game. What would change for you?

  • @PerkyPerky said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1498559#Comment_1498559

You obviously did not even read the topic and just is a NOED-phobic.

No one said NOED is needed or is a good (or bad perk), no one is even discussing NOED here.

I read your initial post. Sounds like you've had rough games and need a 5th perk slot, but I wouldn't think getting NOED helps as much as controlling the earlier game. But there are killers and players who function differently.

  • I mean I think of NOED as training wheels, so I do understand that some people need those while learning to ride a bike. But there are much better perks that will help you have a better early and mid game.

  • I hate being a solo alongside the rest being a SWF. You're just the chump who dies at the start of the story then.

  • Yeah, but then you also have to play on mobile...

  • When the killer gives an ultimatum for farming, I bounce, though it's usually on the loading screen for the match. I get it can be fun and good points, but increasingly this is what I'm running into and it has been making things not fun- not the game I sign in to play.

  • Here's the thing: for some reason this guy thinks he's cool for doing this.

    He's not.

    Joke's on him, I guess.

  • I love the "having fun" but I'll give my more technical answer:

0 Survivors Escape: Killer has a landslide victory.

1 Survivor Escapes: Killer wins alongside that 1 survivor.

    2 Survivors Escape: Tie.

3 Survivors Escape: All survivors win.

4 Survivors Escape: All survivors win in a landslide victory.

I'll also say that in the event of a tie, if it was the result of NOED or Camping for the killer, I consider the Survivors to have barely won. Similarly, if there's a SWF 4 man team who "ties" then I'd say the killer wins. But in the end, who's really keeping track?

  • @Primalux135 said:

I would like wendigo killer but i think devs could get more juice doing their own wendigo

Oh! What if they made it a female wendigo? And maybe she could draw on the ground?

  • The Myers trophy.

Every time I tried and got close, someone DCs or has a key or whatever other nonsense.

  • So toxicity exists in all games that are PVP. Make things asymmetric and it gets worse. Make it so one side is literally murdering the other and there's suddenly some weird emotions mixed in. I once had someone rage at me because I "murdered their girlfriend." Yup, I did. GGez.

  • I say this as 80% survivor main:

This shouldn't work on stealth killers.

But yeah, I use it on every survivor I can.

  • @DawnMad said:

Cause why not make another post about this, its always fun discussing ideas. No bullying though please.

Let me start with an information perk to set the bar low: A survivor perk that shows your aura and the killers aura to your team when you are in a chase. Would be a nice information perk.

That's in some ways what Empathy does (at least after they get hit).

Anyhow, here's my top ideas for Survivors:

-Information delay perks: delaying showing when a gen pops, delaying showing an unhook, etc. Could do a lot with this.

-A perk that slows down progression on a hook if the killer is camping (not Camraderie).

-A perk that allows exhaustion to still slowly go away while running.

-A perk, perhaps token based, that allows a short duration of a cloak effect like Wraith.

    Some idea for Killer perks:

-A perk that will reignite a hex totem at a different dull totem under specific conditions (for example, when the next gen gets done).

-A perk that allows the killer to break a completed gen ONCE (not endgame), causing it to regress. This could be OP, so perhaps conditions.

-A perk that speeds up gen regression on kicked gens, but not as a hex totem.

-A perk similar to Cheryl's, that calls upon the entity to block off a gen for a duration.

  • I had a bunch of games in a row where I 4K'd as a Rank 13-15. After those games, I started only going up against red ranks. So essentially, MMR comes into play more than what your actual ranking shows.

  • I never trust these, but then the other survivors will cooperate with the killer which is awful.

  • He's certainly top tier for me as a player. I like how he builds up over time.

  • @Raptorrotas said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1408171#Comment_1408171

The problem with povercharge is that it fdoesnt stop survivors from doing the instaneous animation-less stop to regression, as it's the only skillcheck that can be performed while running.

Regression stopped at the cost of blowing up the gen. setting back regression, and alerting the killer.

Also, I've never gotten it to go quite as quick as it seems on PC as I can do on PS4.

  • @Chordyceps said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1408363#Comment_1408363

I gave you an example of regression that can be stopped by gen tapping in the third sentence. And yes, it did stop the gens regression.

Right, but to be fair, there's a considerable risk in tapping a gen mid-chase.

  • I don't see it as a game health issue for something to take longer for one side than the other. Should survivors and killers move at the same speed? Should survivors suffer the same delay when they swing with their machete and miss?

All of this said, in 1000+ games I've never found myself annoyed at survivors being able to tap the gen. If they're in a chase and they do it, usually they're sacrificing a bit and might lose that chase. If you're far away, it didn't matter anyhow. And if there are multiple survivors right there, then maybe worry about the gen less. A more specific example of where this was unfair or a game health problem would help. And also Overcharge.

  • @Chordyceps said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1408171#Comment_1408171

Ah yes, I should have to waste a perk slot in order to counteract a game health issue, brilliant.

I mean if you think it's a waste of a slot, then it must not really have been a problem.

  • I had no idea what FNAF was and almost regarded ideas for this as memes until a few days ago. Some really solid ideas makes me think I'd like this in DBD.

  • Let Overcharge be your friend?

  • I mean cool that they're making them as a set if that's how they're intended, but they're still the last thing I'd buy as the customization is limited.

  • Ah, OldFreddy. For me, he was a Killer I could regularly 4K with. The key was to keep pressure on everyone and not tunnel (which most Freddy killers seemed to do). I do prefer OldFreddy to NewFreddy. That said, I think most people hated OldFreddy.

  • I realize I'm building off of what could be something entirely different, but...

I really like the idea of a "hidden information" Bubba. I think this could make him an extreme contrast to Billy, with Bubba being more about Survivors not knowing things, him having less of a terror radius, etc. I say this because many of the scenes in TCM greatly contrast the quiet/safety when suddenly Bubba bursts in with a chainsaw. I'm intrigued.

In fact, the whole "hidden information" or delayed info is something I've long wanted to see in DBD. A survivor perk that only reveals that other survivors were unhooked when they would have gone into next death state instead of when they're unhooked. A perk that causes completed gens to wait 5+ seconds to light up after completed.

  • It would probably be my least favorite chapter. But if someone else loves it, fine. :)

  • So in many sports and games, there are plays that are really good and beneficial to one player or team, but often come at a cost of being viewed as "cheap" or a "bad sport." I'm not exactly saying this is what it is now, but I guess it's what the gamers today call "sweaty." I respect it when a killer chooses to not tunnel a farmed survivor, for example. I wish there were more soft rules in place to help this.

  • I get that everyone has a different amount of camping/tunneling killers they run into.

Personally, camping right now has been an all-time high for me, and I'm usually at red ranks. I'm not really debating if camping/tunneling is a valid strategy for killers, but what we should all be concerned about is that it is a negative playing experience. It should be boring for killers, it is often frustrating for the person on the hook, and the other survivors likely find it frustrating as well if they were hoping to unhook.

I wish it was slightly more de-incentivized.
