  • I think this is the obvious route to take with what we got.

That said, they've often been deceptive with the teasers.

Mikeasaurus i never saw a PS4 Hacker to be honest... so i don t agree with that...

It's rare but it's possible. I think in 3 years I've seen it only a handful of times. There's a video on YouTube of a speedhacking Bubba on PS4 for example.

  • Other than better aim with those who need that (Huntress, Deathslinger, flashlights maybe), I haven't really noticed a difference in skill level exactly.

  • Here's a teaser: bees.

  • I get that it's been rough. I had my worst DBD day ever yesterday. That said, it's a change that just happened and I'm hoping for the best moving forward. I'm going to keep cross-play turned on and hopefully learn how to cope with slightly different metas and styles.

Well as I posted in another thread, most of these statements hold not much information without platform, region and daytime.

For your example it may be the case that the crossplay addition only inflated the player base on survivor side while most console killer either opt out or play survivor themselves.

By now I read nearly every possible combination of shorter or longer queue times from every platform but you can't get any coherence without the aforementioned info given.

Sorry for not mentioning my region, though I did say the platform and time of day. I'm in US Central Timezone.

It is interesting that it's been wildly different for everyone. I'm hopefully I just have had an unlucky night, but this morning's game never happened because I had to head to work. That said, morning have always been a little slow on PS4.

  • Honestly, I see a lot of DCs as well, but I think it's often due to cross-play connections.

  • I'd use this for sure.

I think bloodpoints and shards might not happen, but being able to gift auric cells, skins, and whatnot would be awesome.

  • You're right that sometimes people just want to complain.

How many times have there been a game and even the tiniest amount of lag ends up being the thing to blame? Well, cross-play is offering just another thing to blame.

That said I'm currently in the pool of whiners on console. 😀

  • @Inji said:

When you opt-out, you will only be able to play against people from your own platform. The matchmaking time will be longer since there is less players to match with.

I think the concern is that previously, the wait times were much less. With other people being matched to other platforms, it seems like it takes a lot longer to be matched up.

    Examples:

PS4 solo queue usually takes 1-2 minutes. Yesterday, the average was 5-10 minutes.

PS4 group queue can take longer, 2-5 minutes. Yesterday, we waited 25 and gave up. This morning, a group of 2 is still waiting after 30 minutes.

You don't know whether or not you faced a PC Billy.

It could be a Switch, PS4, or Xbox One Billy. The globe just means different platform.

Only PC players can easily tell if they're facing console players.

It's pretty easy to search a name and quickly find a Steam, PS4, or Xbox profile.

  • Here's been my experience as a PS4 player with cross-play so far:

The game clearly runs most smoothly on PC. So PC players have a slight advantage in a way, though it hasn't been enough to matter to me. What has been super frustrating is that with cross-play on, it seems like console players will encounter more errors, at least when they're matched with people from other platforms. In my ~20 games yesterday, most of the games had a player DC. At first, I thought people were being bad sports. Then the game kicked me out during a game. I queued with friends, and every game thereafter at least one of us was DCd, which obviously makes the game much more difficult for everyone else.

As far as specific killers, I'll say that the Huntress is much scarier when cross-platform. On PS4, usually I can dodge and weave hatchets, but PC players seem to have more deadly accurate aim that I have little ability to dodge, likely the result of frame rate difference, but maybe not.

Some games where we had a killer on the game platform but a survivor who was cross-play. There were a few games where this resulted in the frame-rate dropping to slide-show levels. Some quick research seems to reveal this happens when someone is on the Switch. I could be wrong, but it seems this dramatically affects the game's performance on PS4.

So why not turn off cross-play in the menu? After waiting 25 minutes in queue with cross-play off, it feels like the only answer is to turn it on.

I think cross-play is an amazing idea, but yesterday was certainly my least favorite day of DBD in a long time.

  • Of my ~20 games yesterday, the vast majority were Rotten Fields and Crotus Prenn. It's interesting like that. I eventually started burning map offerings.

  • Okay, here's how much I care.

When I win against someone with a better rank than me, I am 1% happier than a normal win.

When I win against someone with a worse rank than me, I feel nothing.

When I lose against someone with a better rank than me, I blame that for my loss, because I'm petty like that.

When I lose against someone with a worse rank than me, they earned it.

I play ps4 and never had an issue with this game myself. Graphics could be better, would love to play it on 4k.

It's been the past 2-3 days that I get this "unexpected error" and head to a blue screen. Generally, it happens on a loading screen (but has happened elsewhere). It also seems like if it happens to one person in a game, it happens to all.

I'm on a PS4 Slim / newer model. My fiance is on a PS4 Pro. My other friend is on an old fat PS4. It's happened to all of us, and also each of us when we were playing without the others.

  • Yeah I had this 4-5 times last night as well.

And I'm glad you mentioned the flashlights... they seem to not work so thanks.

  • So here's how I just explained it to my buddy:

Kumail Nanjiani points to a scene in Freddy vs Jason where Freddy sees Kelly Rowland's character. He remarks on her race saying, "how sweet, dark meat!" And audiences are appalled. Except, Freddy isn't a good dude. He's a serial killer, dream demon, and a pedophile. Not a role model. Racism is the least of his bad qualities. And further, Bubba (albeit warped a bit by his family) isn't going for the "role model of the year" award either. These are bad guys and not role models.

His response kind of hit me in the gut: "so, the person in real life... they're a monster too?" So yeah, we made a report on PSN. He says he didn't make an ingame report during this, but he has video and I saved mine.

I think many of you pointed out this is bad behavior by an individual. Thank you, I agree.

No, whenever he has killed a black person he doesn't have the time to do that.

I mean I think there's a reason directors and writers and such knew it was probably best to avoid it?

  • Not to beg the question, but has leatherface ever worn a black person's face in the films? (Not coming at him or anyone, just I don't recall it.)

    Both.

From the PSN messages screen highlight the relevant part of a message (the line of text or image), press the “options” button on your controller, select “report”.

Also use the “share” button to take screen shots of the messages, post them to your activities timeline or message them to someone you trust as a placeholder. Make sure you have the PlayStation apps on your phone so that you can access/save the screenshots for easy emailing or submission to a support ticket on the DBD website.

Okay, reported on PSN. Thanks for the advice.

If it ever occurs again, keep the match recorded, take screen shots, lodge a report at the results screen, and then lodge a support ticket on the DBD website with those screenshots provided.

The team have a zero tolerance policy on that kind of totalitarian racism.

So if I have a video and the messages, do you think this is something to go to Sony with or BHVR?

If someone who is white is cosplaying a character who is black and vice versa, that is not racism. To conflate actual racist acts with it is disrespectful to those who are actual victims of racism and hate crimes. Grow up.

"You cant cosplay that person because you don't have the same skin color, regardless of intent"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, doesn't that sound like discrimination?

I mean, at my place of employment, it's something you'd be reprimanded for...

  • @Deathslinger said:

As people mentioned, intent is important. For all we know, this is a black skinned individual who gets off on promoting/creating racism so they can get on the forum and watch you create this topic.

Assuming your not making this all up. All I know is that I’m on ps4 and almost got my accounted deleted because I called a survivor ‘dickless loser’ just a week ago. Fairly sure they would pounce on and crush any racist remarks shared (if reported). 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm on PS4 also. This guy is a red ranks Bubba main and if you went to his profile, you'd quickly get the drift of his intent. I don't think we're allowed to name and shame, though.

And maybe you're right that he wants people to make posts like this. My goal here is to try to understand the spectrum of the argument. I found it to be disgusting and weird, but another of my (white) friends shrugged and said it was meaningless (though he's changed his mind after seeing the profile). Either way, it's what's been on my mind since then.

I told my friend to report. No idea what's happening with Sony, but we'll see.

these aren't really "guidelines" as more so common sense, calling something, in this case blackface, racist, without even considering the reasoning for it being done is ignorant at best

Oh well thank you explaining to me how someone should feel who is a different race than either of us are.

    • bubba, a cannibal who eats people, wearing a black persons face is not racist, people misusing it to be racist are the racists.
    • a person doing blackface in a respectful/contextually appropriate manner is not racist
    • someone doing blackface to make fun of black people is racist

thats all that matters, you can describe it as simple as that to anyone and they would understand, hopefully

I appreciate these guidelines. It helps to have the opinion of a person of color when speaking to my friend.

  • Listen, again, I'm interested in having discourse on this topic. I'm not trying to say we should take away cosmetics or that Bubba is racist. I'm saying that if you described the entire thing to someone outside of our horror community, they'd likely think it's archaic. weird, and racist. Today was the first day I ever thought twice about it. I play with a friend who mains Adam because he likes that they share a resemblance. After getting camped and killing a random Claudette, the killer let me (Kate) and a random Laurie go. He sent my Adam friend a message with a confederate flag and something along the lines of "your life didn't matter" which I am guessing is a remark meant to be a pun on BLM.

All of this to say, it was just disheartening. That someone would go to such lengths to express racism through a game. My friend is more bothered than I was, so I'm trying to be supportive. I honestly don't know what to say. Thanks to those of you who have offered some constructive words I can pass along next time.

I really would have never thought that we'd be dealing with stuff like this in the 20th century, but we are.

  • @PissedWraithMain said:

players are the issue, not the cosmetic. sucks that people are racist but you can't do much other than ban them.

I get that. I guess my intent here is to try to discuss it. I'm not trying to say "let's destroy this" or whatever else. I'm saying that the existence in the game is maybe worth noting. And the fact that people are abusing it worries me further. Ultimately though, I wonder if... 1) wearing this face 2) intentionally focusing on any PoC in the trial and 3) sending these confederate flags or "that life didn't matter" to those you kill is bannable.

How is Bubba racist? He wears people's faces, he's not concerned with the color of skin. Don't fault Bubba for the actions of players.

I don't think Bubba is racist or would ever wear the face.

Like I get what DBD was going for in creating the faces, but it hasn't turned out the way it was intended, I think.

  • Let me approach this one other way:

If there was a 2021 version of Texas Chainsaw Massacare made, and Bubba wore blackface... how do you think this would go over? I'm not trying to endorse "cancel culture" but this seems like an unfortunate choice.

  • @GRT_Alkaline said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/178097/a-sensitive-topic

Is there really?? i have honestly never seen the blackface Leatherface this whole time i have been playing dbd...

and well these players who wear it and then send toxic messages to the players playing as the black characters well these are the pieces of human excrement that are all "Im a bad ass" when they can hide behind a screen but then not have the testicular fortitude to say it face to face.

and there is no way to stop it from happening unfortunately

Well, YMMV, but there's one guy on PS4 who loves to send those hate messages. Like all of my friends know his name and he's not the worst killer, just he loves to send weird crap to the people playing black characters.

But there's been a lot more lately. About 1/3 of the Bubba's I see wear it. It just strikes me as a... weird choice.

  • I'd be curious what the most commonly used "face" is. And to go further, if it's Claudette because people are racist, Claudette because people hate Blendette, or some other reason.

  • @Cheers said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1499800#Comment_1499800

This. There are going to be racist players in every game. But it would be more racist to exclude her just because she was black.

Again, I recognize and agree with that.

But then wearing that, targeting PoC and sending them Confederate flags is just... ugh. And not against ToS on PS4.

  • @xR3m4019 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/178097/a-sensitive-topic

Because there was a face for all 4 original survivors. Would you have preferred they excluded her from it for being black?

Totally get that. But there are people who abuse that, like so many things.

  • Then let's just assume you are really good at the game or got really unlucky in that match.

...or that matchmaking is a joke.

Camping, as facecamping, as tunneling, as slugging, as generator rushing...

Everything is alright. You chose how to play, every action has a cost. They're camping someone? Then do generators and escape. If the killer thinks its a good change a survivor for the entire match, let him do it.

This community should stop searching ways to tell people how to play. This is a game fellas, play whatever you like if that makes you happy. You love to play mori with 1 hook - die? You love to bring 4 full man toolboxes? Its okay.

As long as you don't use third programs to cheat, every tactic its okay.

Annoying? Maybe, but this is a cooperative game.

Every day i read hundred of posts like: "Its time to quit playing" - "Don't tunnel/camp" - "Don't genrush" - "Don't mori, key, hatch"...

Those are players who actually gave up because they didn't found a way to counter those playstyles. There's no rulebook for killers nor survivors (out of the Samination universe, i mean).

Let's do this but in another game shall we? Let's use a shooter genre for example.

"Don't camp with an Sniper rifle!" - It only works when you go for him or you actively go for his zone. He can camp with an sniper rifle if he wants, he's having the fun of looking the amazing textures while other players shoot themselves and gain points.

You can barely get 8k BP with a camp. Surviving (leaving) grants you 5k full BP (not counting the door and generators) so...

Well, maths are on your side.

    Have a nice day!

Love this! Great words. I still think it would be nice to examine the incentives players are given. If there's no reason to camp, it would stop. Thus why I don't try to make up rules and instead hope for intuitive design. I think we've come a long way in a few years, but the game can always improve.

  • Honest question, not coming at you: have you recently DC'd a recent amount? I came across this guy who was bragging about how he DCs when a killer has a mori. He was rank 20. But always goes against red rank killers now. Makes me wonder.

  • @Aneurysm said:

How often do you get camped that you feel the need to spend your time doing this now? Bc it's very rare in my survivor games that someone is just facecamped from the start.

I'd say I see it happen to someone about 1 in 10 games, which is why I make an effort not to be the first downed.

That said, it's much more common in brown/yellow than green/purple. Weirdly I see it tick up a bit more in red though...

  • @Maperson said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1498848#Comment_1498848

The thing with this idea is, survivors can stay close to the hook, they can rush the hook also, sometimes it's smart to camp. Otherwise it would be free unhook

I'd hope this shifts so that killers can explore around the hook if they choose to do so instead of feeling like they're camping. So many times people (even my SWFs) want to call something out as camping that's just the killer taking a few moments to look around.

  • @MusicNerd_TC said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1498834#Comment_1498834

This would be abused, since the survivors can just be chased around the hook. The timer should stay the same if the killer is chasing around the hook.

I think that's in my description?

  • What do you mean? When I first read Steve's Camaraderie perk, I thought it might be something like this, but alas, no.

  • @PerkyPerky said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1498779#Comment_1498779

I really couldn't disagree more. NOED is nothing against the BS that we go through as killers, but I think survivors are used to easiness (hump a gen, m1, loop for 90 seconds pop goes a free escape) that they are making a big deal out of NOED.

It has way too many counters to mention, even perks that require zero skill from the player can be utilized to counter it.

    But let's stay on-topic please.

Why do you keep telling people to stay on topic? Every time you've said this, the person posting has been on the topic you determined.

I do think NOED is stronger than the hatch alone, but hatch + key can be stronger. Also, NOED requires a perk slot, so there's that. Both can be shot down by the opposition.

  • I saw some fun videos and tried it. I think out of 8 games, there was one enduring hit that just got me to be the killer's main focus. I never got up due to the cursed part of it.

  • I'm going to go ahead and post my solution again:

Make it so hook progression goes 1/2 as fast when the killer is within X meters of the hook. Maybe even denote this with a purple health bar, akin to deep wounds. While the killer is in a chase, this does not happen.

(I don't think campers should be banned, but I do think camping should be something the killer sees as choosing to lose).

trust me, i rather be with the bullies so i can kick them down a ditch and watch them fail in life.

which is a problem for me. SO IN MY OPINION. look, just give the option to turn the chat off and on. and i might get banned for saying i would hurt a bullie (which hurts people) and yeah. so gg lets see if i'm perma banned

That's awesome that you have the words, guts, and presence to stand up to bullies. Some aren't as privileged. They're the people who need you as a friend. And if their messages are turned off, they won't have people like you to fight for them.

  • @The_architect said:

well then just don't listen to me, if your fine with chat then ok. whatever thats you not me (and others) gg and good day

I am listening to you. You make the point that if people are harassed, they should just not be able to communicate with anyone but their friends. In the real world, this is why some colleges have created "safe spaces." The problem is that these are deemed ineffective, as the behavior from bullies or aggressors isn't corrected and usually continues. Further, the majority of bullies increase in their aggression until they are reprimanded or face consequences. I think you point out one solution that is a band-aid: turn chat off. The problem is still at large then.

Right now, you're on a forum with open discourse. If someone was attacking you, I'd expect them to be removed from the situation, not you. Sadly, if this was solved the way it is on PS4, you'd only be able to communicate with your friends list on here. I know I don't have many confirmed friends on the forums, so it'd be pretty quiet for me.

Thank you for the good day. Enjoy your games and have a wonderful August!
