This perk is mathematically terrible and not worth using.
If you spend 60 seconds on the invocation and even pull it off, you get 50 seconds off of usable gens since you only need 5 gens complete. Let's round up a ton and call it 70 seconds even though the last 2 gens never matter.
That 70 seconds costs you 60 seconds of invocation time, time finding and traveling to basement, and you lose half of your chases automatically if you're successful. And if, at any point, you're interrupted, you have wasted all that progress that literally drains away. And you're "best" off using the perk early, which means you're literally sitting doing nothing during the point in the game where survivor is the strongest, and making the game 3v1 for the killer, with a good possibility of the perk doing nothing.
On the other hand, you could spend 60 seconds on a gen. Which is not quite irreversible, but regression isn't nearly instant like the invocation. And finishing a gen is 90 seconds of irreversible gen progress (not 70). Costs you far less travel time (7 gens instead of 1 basement). And you get full chases the rest of the game. Oh, and it's base kit, so it doesn't take a perk slot.
You're objectively better off on a gen instead of using this perk. This is a killer perk, even after the buff to invocation time.
If they only buffed it to maybe only injure with deep wounds instead of break. Tho only time i see it now is if someone is playing a no mither for fun build as you already are broken.

I'd love to see some events testing out new ideas for game objectives. Like replacing gens and gate with locked hatches with hidden key piles around the make that killer can see, or maybe a electronically locked door that needs passcodes from several sources to open.

That’s because for killers a 2K is a loss, a 3K a draw, and a 4K is a win… or something.
So while those survivors brought the best they could, had coordination and presumably played hard they still only managed to get two out against an off-meta, B-tier killer with a player who didn’t even take the match seriously (could have used meta perks or tunneled and camped and won a 3K I’m sure).
2k is draw and 3-4k is win.

Your first post is crying about both them. Saying the need to be removed from game.

Yes. As long as one of the 2 isn't yours

Its been way more often now then before. I use to see it maybe every 4-5 games as last 2 now i see it 4 times in 5 games as last 2.

As long as survivors can run Boil Over etc and keep running to an upstairs on maps such as Eerie which make them unhookable slugging needs to be a thing
If you can't counter boil over that's a you issue. as all you need to do is strafe walk and it helps you more then them.
-
Just keep sending them in. When the report box is 90% tunneling and slugging something will have to be done.
-
Thing is you went in with a mid build VS a best type build and still game out as a draw.

@Shinkiro said:
Doesn't matter what type of slugging they are referring too. The answers are Unbreakable, Boon: Exponential, Plot twist or getting someone else to pick you up. There's nothing being "exploited", if you want to use that argument against legitimate game mechanics then there's a long, long loooooong list of gameplay that falls into that category using that logic.
Someone doesnt want to be slugged? Bring anti-slug and counterplay it rather than demanding the devs solve it for you.
The stats destroy any and all arguments about all the moaning about slugging in any significant way, its all just bias, and the mori hasn't changed anything at all, it's just yet another angle to try and get more basekit buffs for survivors.
Second time some said plot twist that doesn't let you get up unless you down your self.

And here i was going to say the playing Nem was the wrong part.

Team Perks or perks that benefit the team over one's self, such as Kindred, For The People, or Leader (just to name a few), have been around for a really long time and normally (but not always) provide insane value where they are used IF they can be used.
At the same time, Team Perks are only as strong as your team. Their effects can be insane… but they can also do nothing.
The Survivor meta when the game came out was incredibly team originated and slowly shifted over the years to be more "selfish" in the sense that perks only benefit the player using it and not the team as a whole.
Recently, we had Distortion which was the "peak" of Selfish Perks since it would often provide massive benefits to the player using it but actively be a detriment to the players around them, since it made you harder to find without having any effect on your teammates, leading to situations where they get found and chased more often.
Distortion had a mostly negative impact on the game, amplifying already existing issues with the game and making them worse than before; but Distortion isnt the only perk to have similar effects. Sole Survivor and Left Behind exists.
At the same time. Selfish Perks like Distortion provide consistent value to yourself. They are reliable since you have more control over how they work and function.
Either way, Distortion got nerfed, and players move to the next shiny thing. I dont have Killrate data so I cannot really tell the impact this had, I can only speculate and I rather not jump the gun just yet.
Do you think Selfish Perks contribute to higher Killrates?
Do you think they are "healthy" for the game?
How should perks be designed in a way that benefits the team without feeling too weak or overly impactful?
Kindred has lost a lot of power when the Anti-face camp range came in as its the same range as that and if you aren't hooked only you see the team. Leader only really helps in group healing and at that point having 3 off gens is hurting you more. For the People has a massive downside, of breaking you for 60 seconds, so healing with a med kit/botany knowledge is a better.
The three you picked have low pick rates for the reason of there being much better team perks out that fill the same roll better. Healing wise Botany knowledge 50%, CoH 100% in range, and autodidact 60% stacked at 5 are easily the go to. and any other aura perk will be better then Kindred be it for seeing team or killer. -
He's in a better spot now then before. He now has a lot of map pressure when played right.
-
He's higher then a lot will give him as they keep going to the 2 tap (Even with the faster despawning guards when he is near) instead of 2 chases at once or using guards to gen guard. Was changed to a much stronger map pressure over the old version.
-
I often get slugged and bleed out for killer to mori last and the reason they say is they couldn't find me till my first down. All those games I'm running OoO, lithe, botany knowledge, overzealous and do 2-3 gens. I'm shown to the killer for most the game with how often killers have 2-3 auras now and my own perk showing me.
And somehow that's my fault now that they cant look at their screens. -

Wow, this has been a fun thread to catch up on. Unfortunately, I don't think @Firellius and @jesterkind are going to find common ground.
From what I can surmise, Jester thinks Distortion is fine as it currently is because it's more in line with the other perks that block auras as a side effect instead of being the best at it. Distortion gave little choice when wanting an aura blocking perk since its all it did.
Fire believes since Distortion is contending with perks that don't primarily block auras, but do so as a side effect while also giving good perk abilities, that Distortion is NOT fine as is.
(If these are incorrect, please correct me!)
My personal take is just from me trying to make Distortion work this last 4 or 5 days. But Distortion fundamentally let me down any time I really needed it. I capped out tokens a few times of the many games I played, but overall I felt like it was just an empty perk slot.
Big aura perk picks were primarily BBQ and Lethal together. Few random 3rd aura perk picks, but it wasnt very common. 2 aura, 2 regression was the usual killer build types.
Overall, reading just the two I mentioned above feels like they are rewrapping the same thing and trying to resell it to one another.
I feel Jester doesn't understand the point that, since Distortion ONLY blocks auras, it should do so in a way that outshines the other perks that block auras 'as a side note'. Currently, it doesn't. And is the reason Distortion isn't viable anymore to a lot of players. It might be decent still, but its only as decent as the other options, which makes it not an option.
This is where I am, but I hope to continue reading this constructive and respectful conversation/debate. Both of you have carried yourselves quite well.
I also don't thing jester realizes Distortion only does 1 thing so it should be better then the others in that aspect that have other aspects to them like hiding scratch marks/anti-tunnel/fast escape.

I play killer 50% of the time and get a 4k 95% of the time. I play survivor 50% of the time and escape 5% of the time…
you don’t need detailed discussion - the devs own it and say it’s killer sided
Even with the Devs also saying it the killer mains will always disagree.

Its still broken. 100-150% bonus for playing survivor with 3-5 minute queues for event.

All I'm saying is even if the magical game balance fairy waved her wand and made EVERYTHING perfectly balanced... a group of 4 getting together and agreeing to play will be harder to schedule than 1 single user. Everyone who's ever played D&D knows this. I'm not arguing balance, merely stating that bringing up win streaks is pointless because of scheduling. It is not proof towards pointing out imbalance.
It's not as hard as you think it is. If it was that hard no MMORPG would exist now as you need more people in them to do high end activities then you do for DBD, and people do those activities 1 or more times a week.

I'm not looking forward to it, because it was fast-paced and fair for killer, because of the instant cage sends, and now we have to physically pickup. That means, uninterrupted, it's gonna be slower than before, when good teams before demanded both killers to go go go if they wanted to beat them. Interrupted, which is very easy because there's 8 survivors, flashlights, and pallets everywhere, the killer's gonna have to rechase the same survivors or bat away all their saviors so many times, that alone will lose them the game. No wonder they added Blight and Spirit, because you're gonna need them with all the stuns you'll have to endure for free.
All survivor items are from chests in the mode and if i remember someone else's math in another 2v8 post right flashlight was sub13% chance.

He is actually one of the best killers to go against, so many ways to have fun.
You can make him vault, you can hug loops and they mostly miss their power…
You guys just need to make sure you can't be grabbed and thrown on dead zone of maps - that's the only situation he is annoying, such situations create 2tap scenario.
It's less him and more the people that play him. Wesker players mentality are among the more toxic of killers players.

Yes, DCing, and not giving up on hook, which is by far more popular in matches, because players has no penalty for that.
they have also said that if they took hookcides out SM went from a 71% kill rate to a 68%. 3% isn't much of a change.
-
Any character leveled up to prestige 1 is unlocked at level 1 for that side. prestige 3 unlocks it as level 3 and no need to blood web it for rank. each side also has around 15-20 shared ones only in the blood web.

Spies, Discordance and Surveillance don't hard counter distortion because they don't reveal auras so that's moot.
Gearhead is a niche perk. I've never heard of anyone actively having this perk be a stable in there build. I could be wrong but again I just haven't heard of it.
Distortion does make survivors invisible. When I equip lethal and at the start of the trial no ones aura is read survivors are definitely invisible as I cannot see them. Survivors can be located normally…. Aura reading is not constant wall hacks.
Lightborn counters no survivor perks, it counters survivor items, as well as a killer perk slot is more valuable then a survivor perk slot. Killers get 4 and survivors 16.
Lightborn does counter perks also on top of items.
Item wise there are 3 fire crackers that some still have and 6 flashlights 3 being limited time ones.
Perk wise you have Residual manafiest, Flashbang, Champion of light, Blastmine (Stun skill happens but you se who did it and where they.) -

To also be fair a killer perk slot is more "valuable" than a survivor perk slot. A killer would much rather have that slot open for regression or possibly aura depending on the killer than lightborn.
And yet killers cry about flashlights and flashbangs with a 100% counter to them cause god forbid dropping 1 perk for lightborn that also aura reads for a good long time.

a small buff to it like plaything has would make it a lot more useable. On vault lights a dull totem to block that window.
-
Welcome to how the other 95% of survivors feel when every killer tunnels/slugs 4 at 5 gen.
-
Even if killers had a 75% kill rate, killers would still say it was survivor sided.

This is funny name 3 games that do I wanna see what you choose
Of the games i personally play.
Slugging/Camping it terms of refusing to let someone play the game.
World of warcraft ICC era had in issue with large mounts blocking NPC's and interactable, purposefully blocking them like that preventing others from progressing was banable. They since put in an interact button and disabled mounts around big quest NPCs
FF14 Obstructing quest givers and transit is punishable.
ANY FPS/TPS game with friendly fire. Spawning in and killing you team via shooting/explosives and preventing them from playing the game is banable.
Conan Exiles trapping others in the spawn area with walls is banable.
Tunneling specific people falls in greifing/harassment.
Smash Brothers Online targeting 1 player and only them in large matches is banable.
GTA online targeting and killing only one player in a lobby excessively is punishable. -
With how small maps are getting the +20 seconds on gen is much better then the hook/ kick gen/ open locker in to instant chase after a hook.

Other games do it just fine and harshly punish people who afk or throw games. What makes DBD so special that it wouldn't work here?
Those other games also punish toxic behavior that that's along the line of tunneling/slugging/camping along with afking

given the timeline calling that a buff is misleading. It's what should have happened after thr ptb already; it's a slight number tweak to the nerf. turning it from distortion being absolutely obliterated into nerfed.
Also with some killers getting 15 seconds of what the game calls a chase is a chore. Death slinger constantly drops the chase part on reloads if they miss so you get 5-6 seconds every 9-10 of running from them. I've had killers follow just out of the 12m chase range so they don't actually start a chase till they know its a hit or keeping the survivor out of that 35 degree mark of center screen.
-
Its more apparent in Event mode, where MMR isnt a thing, hookcides don't happen much out of unwinnable games like posted above, there is no coming back with 4-5 hooks at 5 gens left unless killer is farming 8 hooks and event points. Over 100-130 event games I've seen maybe 4-6 people hookcide on first hook and 20 or so in the unwinnable area. but more often then not its a killer tunneling out 1 person in 4 hooks total and a second at 7 hooks total when 4 or more gens are up.

I've been having fun with a somewhat memes build on my Wraith. Perks are Distressing, Unnerving Presence, Coulrophobia, and Undone. Add ons are his All Seeing Spirit Iri add on (let's you see gen repair progress while cloaked) and his Beast Soot brown add on (terror radius active while cloaked, gain bonus BP on unblock hits). Also use a Jigsaw Piece offering to send yourself to the Game map.
Build is based around getting value out of Undone. Distressing boosts your TR so you get max value out of UP and Coulrophobia, and any missed skill checks feed Undone. Beast add on let's you mind screw with Survivors cause while they now have your TR they still don't always know where you are, and with how small Game is they are almost always in the TR. All Seeing than let's you know where best to use Undone and also helps you find Survivors.
It's not the best build out there but I'm getting 3-4Ks pretty regularly, which is something cause Wraith is one of my main and best Killers so his MMR should be decent
This is done a lot of double iri doctors a lot.

Mostly they say that cause its a Hex. Blocking 5 windows it brokenly strong on some maps that have 5 or less windows.

Oh! I forgot. I experienced the muffled sound bug for the first time during that match. It was awful. The Game map, scratch marks disappearing in the smoke bombs and not returning, frame drops because I'm on console, at least two survivors had Boil Over, and muffled audio. Yeah, that was just an all around bad combination. The negative experience was not necessarily the fault of the smoke bombs.
the sheer amount of pallets I had to go through was just unreal.
Ugh, the number of pallets on The Game is nasty.
the game needs that many pallets cause there is maybe 3 windows in the whole map all on the bottom floor. The freezer and 2 jungle gyms.

I'm using OTR myself but I wasn't sure about some details, so I've checked the wiki.
The Endurance aspect disappears with a conspicuous action. Right.
But apparently, the aura blocking and grunts of pain aren't disabled by a conspicuous action? Is that right?
So in essence, it's better than both Distortion and Iron Will taken together?
It sounds much better than I remember.
That's correct but also at the negative of having to be hooked and most likely proxy camped ATM.
-
@drsoontm said:
So basically tell to everyone if the killer is close to that hook.
There is a perk more efficient than this, to see killer's aura next to the hook. (Can't recall the name at the moment.)
On another hand, that'd make SWFs even stronger.
A SWF wouldn't really gain from it they already are calling out where killer is if hooked. The perk is kindred that's 8-16m range on level and is countered by undetectable/blind.
-
Survivors have 137 perks in game atm and killers have 118. A large chunk of survivor ones have big stipulations for a small buff for non critical objectives.
-
@Toystory3Monkey said:
Because the best way to farm this event as killer is to first ensure survivors cant end the game asap.
You get an early tunnel out, ideally two kills and then spend next 5-7 minutes farming event on helpless survivors. If you bother with event while you have everyone alive, you're betting too much on them being bad and not using that as an opportunity to gain too much momentum for you to stop.
So yes play in a Toxic BM way so only you can have some fun in an event.

If no one saw the other side it'd be more of queue and autoload in to match no lobby needed.

The bar doesn't fill while in chase with another in the 16m range. I've had several times sitting at 0% of the bar for a full 30 seconds as someone loops the killer in the jungle gym I'm hooked in.
