  • I don't think she's garbage. My dislike of facing her comes down to my own lack of skill against her. Basically if I'm up against pig, she can take me down whenever she wants. I never manage to see her first.

GF is just that the reveal mechanic on consoles seems really random.

Stop 😥 As an ex trapper main (because rn he's prestige 3 lvl 1) I say you shouldn't feel bad for me.

I've just never had a match against trapper where he got more than 2 traps off that I can remember, and would really have to wrack my brain to remember the last time a trapper killed me. And I'm average at best. The bright maps and lack of ground cover ruined him

  • Favorites are Nurse, Spirit and Myers.

Least favorite are GF and pig.

The rest sit in the middle, aside from trapper, who I almost always feel pity for when I face. He's trying, bless his heart.

first of all i do find survivor side stronger and i do play 80% of my matches as killer... Now i dont want any discussions about CoH dead hard etc. i have 2 simple questions and 1 point to make

My first question is How does hook camping solve the problem of you not getting any kills?

My 2nd question is How are you going to imrpove if you dont take the L and learn to chase instead?

Ok so im gonna put it short and simple when you complain about not being able to get a kill ASK YOURSELF WHY!?!?

there are some rules of thumb you can use and there are som stuff you need to do before picking up a chase

So im gonna start with before the chase. So when you see a survivor and you are about to start a chase think about a few things... First of all Is this a good chase? are they far away, close which loops do they have. If they are in shack maybe its better to go for someone else. 2nd after your first few chase you need to IDENTIFY WHICH SURVIVOR IS GOOD AT LOOP and WHICH ONE IS THE WEAK LINK!!!... Now i usually dont recommend tunneling but if you cant catch the good survivor look for someone else maybe someone that isnt as good...

Ok so lets say your in a chase a simple rule you can follow is that if you havent gotten a pallet or a hit within 15 seconds you have made an mistake... (there are some exceptions where it might take longer like at shack or a jungle gym...) but generally speaking withing 15 seconds you should have gotten a hit or they should have dropped a pallet...

2nd if you complain about survivors only looping the strong loops. Try zoning them out. if they run to shack run inbetween if possible and cut them off... this will force them to run the opposite direction or well take a hit...

3rd dont mind game to much if its an unsafe pallet sure you can attempt a mindgame but YOU CANT MINDGAME A PALLET THAT TAKES 11 SECONDS TO RUN AROUND!!!! just kick it (like shack just kick it, jungle gyms kick it)

edit: Remember that if you hook someone thats 1 person not doing gens. if you chase someone while someone is hooked thats 2, now if they want to unhook him they need another guy to go for it so THATS 3 PEOPLE NOT SITTING ON GENS!!!

Lastly i usually complaing about hookcamping and i do find it really boring but i hope this can help atleast one of you to rethink the reason your hookcamping and maybe start seeing your losses as an opportunity to improve. There might be some youtubers that are happy to review your footage and make a video about it, if not record your match and review it yourself start thinking WHY didnt i catch him WHY was that chase so long instead of just giving up and hook camping 1 - 2 kills :)

PSST keep the comments friendly and positive no DS, DH, CoH complaing dont complain about maps etc. I know that some maps have an insane amount of pallets :p

All of this makes 2 big assumptions.

    1. Killers who camp don't know how to play otherwise.

    2. Killers who camp do so out of "frustration" due to frequent losses caused by assumption 1.

If you want to have an actual discussion about it, when I camp a survivor it has nothing to do with disliking that survivor, or my confidence in looping, or any of that.

Want to know why I camp (when I do)?

Lean in close. Really close, I don't want this getting out.

    Because it works.

That's it. That's the entire reason. I camp when I get seriously altruistic teams who are both very eager for saves, and also not particularly skilled at working as a team to achieve those saves. Sure in those circumstances I could hook and run, but honestly why waste the time looking for survivors who are so eager to run straight to me?

If they stop going for saves willy nilly and focus on gens, I stop camping to get them off of those gens, but if by standing by a single hook I can keep 4 people occupied? Why the hell wouldn't I? Like any other strategy employed by killers in this game, it's effectiveness is almost fully up to the survivors. Whether you absolutely refuse to camp or refuse to do anything but camp, you're just taking your own tools out. Me? I go with whatever strategy I think will kill the most survivors in each particular match. Sometimes that means hooking one survivor early and slapping his friends down when they come in one at a time for him.

Well I guess that person is psychic then. On some massive map like RPD you are never gonna keep track of what pallets have been used. They could go down ages away from where the chase started. They could have camped every pallet, or not used a single one. I already mentioned alert but it's not perfect information. The killer could be undetectable when they kicked the pallet. WoO is perfect information. It's that simple.

Yes, on rpd it is more difficult, but hardly requires ESP. yes it gives perfect information when you're close enough, doesn't do a thing to help you reach the window, just let's you know it's there. You should have a good sense of when you are running somewhere there are a bunch of broken pallets already from playing the game.

While it does work better in indoor maps (like rpd) as was stated, it still isn't overpowered. At best it gives you something to aim for while you run at the exact same speed already. It doesn't negate any other power or perk, certainly doesn't give the survivor any additional hardiness or speed, just takes a small amount (and really after the first year of playing it's a tiny amount) of randomness out of how you plan running away.

Even if the killer is undetectable the pallet makes noise when it breaks, and leaves bits on the ground.

I would feel differently if it provided more information, like if it included the location of gens, totems those would be OP, but windows and pallets are basic enough information that you should already learn.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2868063#Comment_2868063

I don't agree with that at all. Outside of voice comms or Alert, you have no idea what pallets have been used or not. You can know the tiles all you want, but you might be running straight to a tile where that pallet has long been dropped. Against some killers you just go down for that mistake instead of take a damage state. It's super useful in solo Q even for veteran players.

Was going to reply but then I saw this, which sums it up as good as I could hope to.

    @Jacoby2041 said:

Usually I can look at a tile/building from a distance and know exactly what it's going to have and where. Like if this spot has a window, then I know a certain spot is going to have a pallet, if there is a breakable wall here then this other doorway is open, if a pallet is there then there won't be a pallet here, etc. Also can tell the orientation of a tile/building just by looking at one side of it. There are some things I can't tell until I'm there, especially on indoor maps, so it's a bit more useful on those but still, some things are always the same or only have a little variation. As far as pallet status I can usually make a good guess based on game sense; if I know someone was chased/downed in that area recently then there's liable to be pallets missing so I shouldn't count on them being there

Also in regards to knowing if pallets have been used, Alert and Any Means Necessary are pretty good, don't have a range limit, and have some other functions besides pallet status, though they do require a bit of memory since their info is temporary and AMN has a cooldown if you lift a pallet, but I think they're a better alternative

I feel like WoO is most helpful for those who aren't familiar with the map or tile nuance, and maybe on some indoor maps in certain instances since you can't see as far, but I think the training wheels can be taken off once you're pretty comfortable with the map and have some good game experience (or watch a few Otz videos about tiles). Ultimately, it can be pretty nifty but I definitely wouldn't say OP and there are better options if you're confident in your map knowledge/memory

Most people just slot out IW for it - Huge meta break :(

Is it the information or just the confidence to go with the route that subconsciously you already know is there?

Here's my position. These maps aren't all that different. If you got Midwitch, for example, you know there are going to be a couple classrooms on the 2nd floor linked with a window. On Leary's you know there's the upstairs, ring around the observation deck and down loop, etc.

The actual map variations aren't huge, and as you play your mind will get used to and notice where windows and pallets generally spawn. That's why I don't think it's an OP perk, because at best, it's giving you information that you'd get on your own without it, perhaps with the added confidence that you are remembering correctly. I put it in the same category as Detective's Hunch. Once you learn the spawn points and conditions of the thing you are trying to track, the slot can definitely be put to better use

  • It's a helpful tool for players until they gain better map knowledge and know what to look for on tiles. Hardly OP

The state I live in has 20 times as many people and isn't even top 10 by population.

So yeah, for a game released globally that's free to play? 1 mil is nothing.

Because it's a waste of time for everyone, from the developers who would have to work in such a change rather than the actual balance work that matters, to the 99.98% of games where someone will pop off and just waste time.

Why would you camp on a 3 Gen? Isn't the point of a 3 Gen is to force the Survivors to want to get hooked just to get the game over with. I mean that's how all my 3 Gens go as Vommy Mommy....mind you that's after 45 mins pass where I deny them a Gen muwahahahahaha.

But it's not throwing them a bone Pyramid Heads cages teleport to cancel out camping the cage anyway so the logical solution is to give the same thing to Hooks. Sadly camping is still camping, and most dislike that whole "strategy"

    1. The point of a 3 gen isn't to force anyone to want to give up, it's to have a defensive position where you can ensure the gates don't get powered before you can finish the survivors off.

    2. Getting a hook inside a 3 gen area massively increases pressure, by giving survivors more to worry about, should they try and progress a gen a bit more, go for the really risky save, etc. Not only does it present a strong psychological advantage, it also gives a very real advantage knowing that 2 survivors at the least won't be trying to break your 3 gen defense.

    3. Pyramid heads cages don't teleport to stop camping, they teleport because there's no DS risk and no worry about carrying to a hook, it's flat out easier to cage than it is to box, so they add conditions to the cage and make it teleport to make it so that PHead players don't just cage everyone. Also it's optional. The killer is never forced to use the cage, and therefore in a scenario like AK described they can choose whether to give up a save, or keep the pressure they've earned.

    4. "Using" "quotation" "marks" doesn't stop something from being what it is. Camping is as valid a strategy as tunneling, which is as valid as gen rushing, body blocking by survivors, and flashlight saves. It's all part of the game and has been for 6 years.

Hooked beside exit gate, unhook self, dead hard through exit, escape

A situation that happens slightly less often than games where 2 killers spawn in the same map. Can't do balance or mechanical changes over such unlikely scenarios.

  • @Halloulle said:

Tbh. Just taking out the hook grabs would improve the situation by a lot, imo. With hook grabs the camping killer is effectively guaranteed either a second person on hook or a kill on first hook - and if they're lucky they get both.

(Personally, I think this would also have to go hand in hand with a bt rework and removal/rework of the unhook-animation-invulnerability. But I do think these three things can be balanced against each other rather well if deincentivising camping/after-hook-tunneling is the goal.)

On the other hand, If you are being actively chased by the killer and decide to try and go for the unhook while they are right behind you, the grab needs to exist so that bad play can be properly dealt with by the killer player. Otherwise we set up a system where solo survivors are being constantly farmed for points and unsafely unhooked whenever the other Survivors want to try and present a different target for the killer.

That's the issue a lot of these suggestions have. They are using a sledgehammer for the work of a cats paw. You end up either promoting unsafe unhooks, or no unhooks at all.

  • What's worse than being camped?

Not having the killer near you, but your teammates still refuse to go for the unhook because they'd much rather use you as a "safe" point to run to any time they are chased... Until you die, of course.

That's literally how it went almost every game when they attempted that very "fix". It's difficult to say if the killer players or survivor players found it to be more annoying, but what is certain is that the experience was worse for everyone than camping.

  • As others have noted, it's still fantastic on Doc, especially running the massive TR build. Exposed is still a great counter for CoH.

  • Seems like the best thing you can do is turn off end game chat.

Seriously. That chat is the best argument I have that console is the best way to play this game.

Whether you notate where each totem is, cleanse as you see them, or ignore totems until noed pops, you don't need that sort of abuse from your own team. Ignore them, focus on whatever strategy you feel gives you the best results in game.

  • Not it isn't. Being overly dramatic won't change the fact that BHVR is quite happy to let people play with their friends on headset. It's not some third party exploit they never intended. BHVR knew headsets existed and knew if they gave people the ability to group up as a team that they would use headsets to talk to each other.

Frankly the biggest benefit people get out of swf isn't even the comms, it's having the knowledge that your friends won't just farm you for points or leave you on the first hook.

  • One of the OGs, plenty of guides out there, literally thousands of hours of video showing survivors of all skill level, from tater fields to competition level teams showing that she can be beat as long as you play smart. But the hell with all that, just nerf or remove her so the OP doesn't have to learn that there are multiple strategies for this game depending on which killer you face.

  • Ever think maybe there's a reason the 2 killers with the best ability to recover after someone uses DH for distance are the most popular ones to use?

  • @fulltonon said:

You are intentionally doing deranking for some reason, and also even 1k can actually raise your rank up depends on situation.

Also, finishing a match "fast" is detrimental for MMR afaik, you need to play longer to trick MMR system to think "it was a fair match".

I think you are confusing mmr for emblems.

From what BHVR has said, mmr for survivors is fully based on If you escaped. And mmr for killers is fully based on kills. There is no time requirement, and getting 1k can't increase your mmr rating because 3 got away.

Now, it is possible to rank up (pip) while losing mmr rating, which causes a lot of this confusion.

You do realize the AFK pig means you just sit there UNTIL a head pops, then you clean up the others. If you walk away from keyboard, sure, ok. But most just sit until a head pops or all hats are off.

In that case, they Aren't afk. They're guarding a box, which should be allowed. It's not the best strat for pig, but not even a little bit against any of the rules in place.

And how exactly does a killer get any kills with noed while being afk? Or has the definition of afk changed from "Away From Keyboard" to something else when I wasn't looking?

    1. The old rank system - No, I like MMR, I get better matches under this than emblems did.

    2. The old hatch system (key escapes) - Definitely not. The old keys let multiple survivors escape with a single key use, it was totally broken.

    3. Old Billy - Eh, the new Billy isn’t all that different from the old Billy and I’m not a fan of either.

    4. Old fog/tints - I like the new maps better than the old maps in terms of aesthetics.

    5. Old Coldwind - See above

    6. Old D/S - Decisive Strike didn’t change. All that changed was hit validation and hit validation shouldn’t be removed. It’s just now that Decisive Strike is actually working properly it’s obvious how powerful it’s always had the potential to be.

    7. Old Sabo - Couldn’t care less about sabotage

Decisive Strike definitely changed. It went from multiple uses, to one use without qualifications, to now where it can be removed early by healing, repairing gens etc.

  • Old fog definitely. I miss the atmosphere

I think that means Steam players make up like 5% of the total playerbase.

    That seems a little suspicious.

Does it though? I mean, we already know PC is the minority when it comes to gaming after all, as It's generally seen as more cost-effective to buy a console than build a decent gaming PC (especially with Bitcoin miners driving up GPU prices to insane levels) I mean, if the option is to either spend 500 on a console that is promised to run any game I buy for it, or spend 500 for just the GPU of a PC that may or may not run every game on steam, it's difficult to justify option B, especially if you have bills and people who depend on you for their well-being.

Add to that Xbox Game pass, where DbD has been available for quite some time at no additional cost and 3-5% honestly looks about correct to me. Especially since we aren't talking total pc gamers, just ones who chose the steam marketplace.

I must admit, I was thinking if Dead Hard wasn't complained about then Sprint Burst probably would be.

I'm in the camp that Sprint Burst is actually stronger than DH when it's used in a specific way, although it's not as frustrating as Dead Hard is.

I don't think it would be, simply because A. They have to walk around the map to save it, and B they only get one use. To me that makes SB, while powerful if used correctly, much less open to the frustrating plays that are termed as "abuse"

    Yup 100%

However, they can present the data so that number of logins can show better numbers than active users.

For example, rn there's a daily login of 70k BP and shards. I can't play everyday due to real life, but logging in and getting 2 matches worth of BP takes a few seconds.

My usual queue does vary, but at worst is always relatively quick with crossplay on (I play on Switch). My killer queues time is similar to my Splatoon 2 queue time for regular matches (8 players). Splatoon 2 (or even 1 ftm) is still really active and both games came out 5 years ago

Splatoon is probably the best Nintendo mp game to compare it to, I play a lot as well, and it's crazy how active that game still is.

  • It's actually easier to keep pressure up via madness levels than it is wounding survivors due to the CoH meta. "Snap out of it" gets no benefit from CoH, so it's still as reliable a mechanic as it was when boons didn't exist.

Until they give killers a better option, killing the person who brought the boon is the absolute best counterplay there is. It's literally the only way to stop the perk from being reapplied all game.

  • @Jplanas98 said:

Gonna play devil's advocate here. Where's the proof that 2 million people are logging in daily? All the article says is that BHVR 2 million daily logins, but there's no image, stat tracker or a link of any kind in the article to actually prove that number is real. Also, does is this the number with or without the free weekends they've done. Is it possible that many people login daily? Absolutely. But we can't just take BHVR's word at face value.

    1. That's not what "playing devil's advocate is" that's just being untrusting.

    2. As much proof was given as they have on kill rates or anything else, a picture doesn't make the data more accurate, after all.

    3. Unlike the kill rates and other internal metrics, number of players is something they would have to show to get financing, certain tax incentives, show prospective license holders to gain more licensed characters, and also to keep shareholders happy. To put it simply, it's the worst thing they could pick to lie about, as it's literally the only metric they can be sued for lying about.

You underestimate the ridiculousness of afk pig or other lazy/boring play styles. You say try hard and it does not fit. Why? AFK pig can easily average 2 to 3 kills a match. Camping can average 3 easily. It's all about the builds and altruistic players. Both styles require little "trying".

MMR does not measure try hard vs casual. It measures nothing at all. Many try hard players purposely tank MMR so they can roll over easier players.

    The system is completely broken.

You can only get multiple kills with the afk pig if there are multiple keys in the one box you are afk in front of, which there is no way for pig to check. Also just statistically, you'd be lucky to keep a 1k average, and there would be plenty of games where you didn't even get that.

Playing afk pig is the DbD equivalent to placing a single number bet in roulette every spin. Sure if it actually hits 22, you will make a lot, but it's far, far more likely that it'll stop on any other number.

Yeah I hate noed but I had to use it for the “hit survivors when exposed challenge”

Really? I mean, there are quite a few ways to expose survivors, (or expose yourself to them, but that's how you find the scariest gates are in jail)

I like noed, or at least don't think it needs to be changed, but when I'm doing an exposed challenge I prefer starstruck+agitation, maybe throw some Iron Maiden on (I main doc as killer, so the Maiden is my most frequent dance partner). Noed will instantly expose all 4 when activated, but it's at the end of the game, smart survivors can quickly break the totem or just leave before you get to them, and worse, they may boon/break all the totems before you even get a chance to use it. Maiden always catches at least one, and I can use them to expose the rest, if I don't get them all in one run, no worries, I still have the entire match to get the rest of them.

That being said, if noed makes the challenge work for you, I'm all for it.

Is the boon thing why I always get tunneled? I'm a Mikaela main and killers will randomly drop chase with and injured survivor there about to down to chase me for 5 gens.

I also find survivors show me where totems are and point at it all the time. It's funny because I haven't had CoH on in awhile.

Almost certainly. If there is a boon in play, it's easy to assume the Mikaela did it. Honestly if I was in your position (which I am like 80% of the time, lol) I'd just take CoH. Sure people call it broken and op, but they say that about so many perks on both sides, so why bother listening? Either way you'll be assumed to have it, may as well get the benefits of the perk

I just find it odd that there are survivors within range, way easier and in worse positions and the killer will walk right past them.

I had a game where I had to literally body block a killer in a hallway to give another survivor a better chance to escape. He hits me then continues to chase and tunnel the other survivor.

Ok, back to gens I guess.

The reason for that is pretty simple. Current game state means winning as killer is all about how quickly you can get to a 3v1, or even better a 2v1 situation. The most efficient way to achieve that is to focus down the first survivor you can, either the weakest runner, or the one you think may be responsible for the CoH boon, or just the one who's easiest to spot because they're in neon pink.

Personally I focus on whoever dropped the boon. Currently focus downing the survivor who brings it is the best counter to boon perks. So that means If I know you brought the boon, I'll ignore everyone else until you and the boon are out. Nothing personal, just the best way I have to try and win the game.

Its an elimination game you are gonna get eliminated early sometimes to the detriment of the rest of your game.

The threat of elimination is what creates your reason for trying to escape in the first place but people get really angry when they are eliminated. Likely because they are eliminated by another player which is ego hurting.

If the killer was a really hard AI people would probably relish the challenge but as its a person they all just get upset that they lost to someone else. More so if that loss comes quickly or efficiently.

Every trialed suggestion to punish camping has just been a huge nerf that was heavily exploited by survivors. Often with game stalling effects.

I think people just have to understand that sometimes you are going to be eliminated, you may be the only one eliminated, or eliminated early but that's just part playing an elimination game.

They already nerfed most tools used to auto eliminate people early you can no longer mori on first down or first hook state.

What do people want? Just to constantly respawn so they can keep playing then everyone just gets a tallied score at the end. What a drawn out repetitive threat-less nightmare that would be.

Compare this game to say MWO, where you may get caught out surrounded and blown up early, but you don't really see its online community screaming about dying early. They don't want fixes that make them immune to elimination or being targeted because they feel its unfair to miss out.

I sucks to be knocked out early but screaming that if you get shot and nearly killed in the first two mins there should be a mechanic that makes you immune to damage because waaah I don't want to die first is just silly. Its a mindset that really infects the DBD community though.

Imagine people from one of those battle royale style games trying to make the same argument as the op, it's hilarious

It gives me the # whenever I try to say her name which I think is interesting?

    She knows what she did.

  • Top one.

    Noed 986.

One page less than blight, which makes sense as hexes really got going along with his introduction.

Honestly, Survivors are not posting in such a frequency as Killers. Mainly because this Forum is full of Killer players.

Using DH over a Trap is BS, I agree on that one.

But removing the Distance without giving anything to DH would just make the Perk useless, since the i-Frames alone dont really help at all. They would just be a little bit annoying for Nurse, but thats about it.

Personally, I dont mind if they nerf it or not. I am not using DH, so for me, it would just be a win, since it is a Perk I play against when playing Killer, but which will not affect me when I play Survivor. But it would be a shame if another good Perk is kicked out of the Meta. Especially because Killers are complaining that all Survivors run the same Perks, yet they are asking for even less variety on a constant basis (at some point, only Sprint Burst will be a really good Exhaustion-Perk) and also complain immediatly when a Perk is released on the PTB which might be good (which is rare enough).

I see this claim a lot (that killers outnumber survivors on this forum by a significant amount) and have yet to see any evidence for it whatsoever. I'm fact, every time any poll is done, it seems the vast majority of users on this forum play both sides, like myself. But I am always willing to learn, so I did some searching and counting.

The numbers below are how many pages of threads complaining about each perk/character/tactic. As you can easily see, there is no wild discrepancy, in fact it seems like noed and dead hard, as well as nurse and blight, received about the same amount of threads complaining about them. By far the most common complaint is camping and tunneling, which are things survivors experience, so the premise of this being some sort of "killer biased" or "majority killer" forum, quite frankly, still lacks ANY actual evidence.

    Noed 986

    Nurse 997

    Blight 987

    Camping 1k

    Tunneling 1k

    DH 996

    Boons 997

Frankly at this point when someone claims that this forum is biased, I tend to believe that what really happened is they decided anyone who disagrees with them must main the side being complained about, rather than accept that different people may just have different opinions.

I don't see any of you dismissing in the 5 nurse thread in 2nd days or the 10th blight thread in a week or the 50th tunneling/camping thread this month (number exaggerated).

But that's probably because those are "valid" complaines and not just the other side of the coin whining just as much 😜 /s

Don't forget all the noed threads.

Thank you for giving a sensible answer, I actually didn't think of this and 100% agree strategic body blocking should stay as it is a strategic tactic, but just afk in front of a box for the entire first 5 minutes of a match shows no skill. I understand the mmr system has a lot of controversy with how kills = skill, I just think it would be nice to not reward obviously trashy gameplay.

Thing is, the gameplay isn't rewarded. There's as much of a chance of 0 keys being in the box pig is in front of as their is that all 4 will be in, most likely is a single key, which means every time pig plays that gambit, the most likely outcome is 1 dead and 3 escaped, which drops killers right down the mmr ranking. It's a gamble, not even a particularly good one at that.
