People say they play both sides but mostly will incline / prefer one over the other, I have played killer and even used to main it, i go back to it once in a while but I say im a survivor main because thats what i prefer ATM, but on a poll asking me what I play i would have to say both. It does seem that most post are killer inclined, just see the "yay coh is nerfed" threads vs the "coh is dead" threads, if there were as many survivor mains there would be around even threads, especially since its such a common/used perk
CoH is a perk that even streamers who only streamed survivor gameplay admitted was busted, so I'm not that surprised at the reaction. Also you are leaving out the threads pointing out that CoH isn't dead, it's still a fantastic healing perk that helps the whole team, but some confusion over how percentages are calculated in DbD has lead a few people to the incorrect belief that it is now slower than self care. (Which, even if it was, self care is only useful when healing yourself, where CoH helps all forms of healing)
I've counted so far.
6 threads saying the nerf is no big deal, and the perk is still good.
9 threads complaining that the nerf was unwarranted or too stiff.
6 threads saying the nerf was good (also counting the one nut who thinks the perk should have been removed entirely)
So there we have it. That's how horribly killer sided the forum is, which is to say, not at all.

Sorry about being so b*tchy earlier. It just sucks that the developers will go and nerf something like Circle of Healing to Self-Care yet won't do anything about face-camping and tunneling-off-hook-till-dead at gen 5. And it sucks the entire survivor meta is so old.
I play both sides but anymore, I just don't want to play the game. Survivor is stale and Killer I don't get to play with my friends. Although I do like Sadako.
It's ok.
As far as CoH, it's still a bit faster than self care at least, and still works on the whole team, but it's odd thats the route they went when they were given so many options for a good change, including McLean's idea. I think a lot of the reaction is overblown, and like with DS, after a couple of weeks of people saying the sky is falling they'll realize it's still a solid option.
Tunneling and camping? I mean, with camping they've tried a few things, but it always gets so badly abused that they have to revert. Tunneling I honestly can't think of a fix that wouldn't rob the killer of the ability to pick targets, and I don't think taking choices out of the game helps anyone. Even the idea of making BT basekit, while good in theory, I can't help but feel will lead to survivors farming each other for points and doing the dumbest of unsafe unhooks.
Personally I've started to just ignore the survivor meta. I figure which perks go with my natural playstyle (generally altruistic, always down to break a totem) and go from there. I think a lot of the "meta" on both sides is just bullshit that's popular because popular streamers say that it's the best.

lol we’re putting our own spin now?
I mean it would be if that one scenario was there only scenario out there, which it isn’t.
So how bad is your team if 3 people can't finish at least 1 gen in the time it takes you to lose 2 chases back to back, get carried to the hook, and be put up?

That's how elimination games work, it's just as fair as someone playing Fortnite and being shot as soon as they land. That's literally the point of the game.

Why not? Did you survive? Did you fix any gens or contribute to your team's success? Or did you hang out like a lump waiting to see if they would save you? Why should you be rewarded?

As you can see, Boon: Shadow Step and Flashbang are not Meta or "Most effective tactic available". I'm not the one deciding what is and isn't meta, it's how much these perks are used. I can't believe I'm actually arguing with you about Flashbang and Boon: Shadow Step being Meta perks when you say you play survivor.
I picked the lowest ranked meta perk to compare Boon: Shadow Step and Flashbang to, in percentage of usage (Technically, I would consider Kindred meta and it's slight lower than Windows of Opportunity, but it's meta for solo queue and not SWF).
Interesting, what's your source for that image?
Also, kindred is really that low used? Solo must be less popular than ever.
My general build is as follows.
Kindred, lithe, Flashbang, Survival Instinct/CoH (last 1 changes based on whether I'm feeling altruistic, tbh, if I'm not particularly feeling like a team player, I'll slap on IS)
I'm not claiming that they are all meta perks. (Though Kindred absolutely is, especially for solo) In fact I know lithe definitely isn't because DH is, I just prefer my speed boost to be something I can do when uninjured. I will argue against Flashbang being situational, or at least argue that it isn't any more situational than any other perk that is considered meta, like DS. Blinding the killer has 1001 uses 😉 I'd also argue that when DH is adjusted, it won't be sprint burst that brings all the Survivor boys to the yard, and lithe will finally get the respect it deserves.

the number of posts complaining about noed and nurse are nowhere near as many as all the DH and CoH posts, there are so many killers in this forum complaining every minute, WAY more than there are survivors. Survivors know that whatever they say will just attract angry killers and more complaints, leading nowhere, so many could feel discourage on bringing issues up.
People like to claim that, but a while back I actually ran the numbers, and it's about even. The biggest determining factor in how many new threads are created to complain about a perk/strategy/power/item is how long the thing being complained about has been in the game, side averages out to even.
Makes sense, given that every time any sort of poll was done it was found that the vast majority of people here play both sides, around 85% in fact. People enjoy claiming the forum is sided one way or another just as they do the game itself, however in both instances the truth is quite a bit more nuanced than that.

Oh yeah, the daily b*tching from killer players about Circle of Healing, had nothing to do with it. Let's face it, the killer-players, specifically on these forums got Circle of Healing nice and nerfed.
Don't worry, I'm sure Dead Hard will be nerfed too, just like every other perk the killer-mains don't want survivors to have.
Just because you use Flashbang and you use Boon Shadowstep, doesn't make them meta perks. Those perks are situational at best.
That's right, I forget you get to decide what perks are worth anything and what ones aren't, just as you've decided that the devs are intentionally trying to make it so that the game isn't fun for 80-90% of their player base by catering to the 5% or so who actually play only killer. Despite logic, facts or what anyone else says, you remain steadfast in your beliefs.

I guess complaining here about the same subject everyday does pay off. Killers complain about survivors only using the same 4-5 perks, gee I wonder why?
Any perks that have a chance of becoming meta get nerfed because killers don’t want to adapt to it and the devs don’t have the stones to tell them to get good.
I think Dead man’s switch is overbuffed and broken when combined with pain resonance on killers like blight and nurse, so I guess I will cry on here everyday too since it seems to pay off. Hate something? Just complain on the forums enough for the devs to change it
If that worked NOED and nurse wouldn't even exist anymore 😉

Oh whatever, killer-players once again screw survivors over. Congratulate yourselves on destroying the only meta perk survivors have gotten in the last 4 years. Glad the developers cater to you all like lapdogs.
All those perks you mentioned are crap and you know it.
Again, back to that bitterness and bias. Killer players didn't do anything. I don't know if you're aware, but maining either side doesn't give you the ability to nerf perks, that's fully on the dev team. If they did "cater to killer players like lapdogs" as you claim, I highly doubt DH would still be in the state it's in 5 years after release. Fact is they don't cater to anyone, they just try the best they can to keep all the plates spinning.
Flashbang is in every survivor build I have. It's a free blind that you don't have to forgo taking a medkit or toolbox in to take advantage of. Boon Shadow step literally cancels out jumpscare Myers, as well as BBQ and any other aura reading perk the killer may have. Not to mention the utility of having scratches hidden. I'm not going to go back and list every other fantastic perk survivors have gotten in the last 4 years, because I have real world ######### to do, so I'll just leave it at this.
You are being ridiculous. Acting like a victim because a single perk was changed, when most of the community as a whole, and clearly the devs as well agreed a change was needed. Blaming people who pick killer for changes the devs made, and furthering the us vs them bullshit that infects this forum like a cancer. Hopefully one day you'll look back at your posts here with a clear head and see the light.
For the record, though it doesn't matter, 80% survivor, 20% killer over here, but I know you enjoy pretending anyone who disagrees with you is just some salty killer main who thinks they deserve a 4k every game or whatever, as that's the toxic bullshit you and those (thankfully) few others who can't handle the idea that they may just be incorrect love to spread.

I should clarify, every killer release patch, I would assume that was implied since no one receives perks on non-killer release patch. Here, Let me list them for you.
- Onyro - Merciless Storm (Scourge Hook: Floods of Pain is a very usuable perk)
- Patch 5.5 - Dead Man's Switch (Got buffed into a meta perk and not even a Killer release patch)
- Artist - Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance
- Pinhead - Deadlock, Hex: Plaything
- Nemesis - Lethal Pursuer
- Trickster - Starstruck
- Twins - Didn't really get a meta perk but I like Oppression a lot.
- Blight - Undying
I can keep going down the list of killers if you want but I think you see my point. In that entire time, survivors got Circle of Healing, the only fresh new meta changing perk in 4 years. Kate Densen, with Windows of Opportunity is 9 more killers back, while Killers meta has been fresh and changing that entire time.
So your issue is that new killers come with perks? Most of those aren't meta, and Undying isn't anything like it was on release. Last few survivors have also all gotten good perks. From boon: shadow step and CoH, to flash grenades that can be made almost at will. And let's not forget exponential, which is UB on steroids, and corrective action, which literally stops potato teammates from giving your position away, and it seems lately both sides are eating well at the perk buffet.

Your absolutely right. Killers get a whole new set of perks every single patch with 1 or 2 of them becoming meta or at least usable. But god forbid that survivors get anything and the killers will come on here and whine and cry until it's removed.
I play both sides but the blatant killer-sidedness of these forums is almost comical. Think about it. Every single patch, killers get several usuable perks and usually at least one meta perk. However, survivors have only had 2 f*cking meta perks in the last 4 years. Circle of Healing and Windows of Opportunity. Not a SINGLE meta perk in between.
And killers are doing their hardiest to get the only new meta perk survivors have had since June 2018 removed from the game.
It's like 2 brothers in a family, the golden-child gets a Ferrari every year while the other sibling hopes the family doesn't give his honda accord he got in June 2018 away to his brother.
At first I thought "every single patch" was just a typing error, then you repeated the exact same claim again. Not only is that not even remotely true. (Nobody's getting a new perk every single patch, much less a new set) it really shows your own mindset. Don't even have to go that far back, patch 5.3.0 didn't have a single killer perk. That was 5 months ago. I'm not even counting the countless bug fix patches in this either, which make your claim even more ridiculous. If you want to talk about bias, maybe examine your own first.

We're currently discussing Deadlock being used while camping.
4 Survivors being on gens would be impossible.
Okay so gens 1 and 3 get done 4 has to wait a bit

Right. So with Deadlock if you are splitting gens doesn't work b/c it blocks each gen (30 seconds) back to back buying the killer more time to camp (I.E. have enough time) to camp the next person.
Sounds to me like you don't understand how perks work.
Only if people are waiting between each gen being completed, if all 4 survivors started each repairing a gen at the same time, then 1 would be completed, 2 would get blocked, but 3 and 4 could complete while 2 is blocked. Happens all the time.

If you, at 5 gens, tunnel-off-hook-till-dead a survivor, you win the game. 3 survivors aren't really able to do 4 to 5 gens, heck 3 gens and the game is pretty much won unless the survivors have done substantial work on one of those 3 gens.
When I play killer, I just don't do it because personally, it doesn't really feel like a win to me and it's not fun. The low-skill ceiling required to tunnel a survivor out of the game does justify the high reward.
When I play killer, if a survivor I'm tunneling out of the game doesn't have Decisive Strike or one of his teammates doesn't have Borrowed Time, then that survivor is completely helpless. There's no counter play. I just win the game at that point.
I'd agree with that, if the survivor team hasn't managed to get a single gen done by the time the first one dies, it's probably like a 90% chance they're not escaping. Either they aren't coordinating for saves (I point twice, you go, I follow right behind, you take the hit and draw killer while I save, as an example from a recent match) or are just straight out screwing around and not even trying for gens. In either case, they aren't likely to survive.

You'd still need to get the keys. It's also not like survivors crowd one generator, complete it and all of them move to the next generator.
The killer is the main part of the gameplay loop, if the killer targets one survivor then the only thing that have to do is complete generators. It's not like they are going to scare themselves off generators.
If this is the intended gameplay then you can pretty easily replace the killer with an NPC.
1. Are keys known for running away and trying to stun survivors who chase them?
2. Replace with an npc? DbD mobile does that. It's still not the same, because the ai lacks judgement and nuance. You don't always camp, just when it works. Ditto for tunneling.
3. Yes, the killer can only interact with 1 survivor at a time, that's life. Until they start a 4v4 mode that's just the way it works. Doesn't matter if they are tunneling or not.
-
@Sylhiri said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2875589#Comment_2875589
For the above, are those methods the only way to achieve the objective?
Wouldn't camping and tunneling just mean bypassing the main gameplay loop to reach the objective as fast as possible?
So basically for survivors it would be like having keys around the map and the hatch spawning at the start. You bypass the main objective for an easier one to get faster results.
That analogy only works in a world where survivors put themselves on hooks.
"Bypassing the main gameplay loop" I'm guessing you mean chasing? Which, to be clear, it's absolutely impossible to camp anyone without catching them first, i.e. taking part in the main gameplay loop.
So no, it's not bypassing anything, it's just making sure one objective is completely finished before moving to the next one. Just like survivors do with gens. You don't run around making sure every gen is at 75% before finishing one, why would a killer try to make sure every survivor is at 2 hook states before killing one? Especially when they can't even see hook states in game, and would have to manually keep track outside of the game.

Or there is someone on the team that's on their final hook and no one else has been hooked yet, then clicky-clicky and tea-bagging can get the killer off that survivor.
Exactly. Sometimes it's a good idea to tilt the killer player so they target you. Just like tunneling and camping, it's all in how the actions are done, and why.
-
I'm just going to say, tbagging and clicking does actually have a use. Let's say you and a friend are playing, and you know that friend can't loop for #########. You see the killer heading towards them. Best thing to do? Get their attention so they chase you instead of getting the easier kill. How to do that? Well there's 2 actions that always get a response...

I agree with that. Fair and balanced game would fun for everyone. I am against people who thinks survivors are okey. Because this is not true. There is some god survivors and swfs but all survivors are not like this. Game should not be pain for this people but if we are talking the way you mentioned, this would be alright.
Each side has a few issues, which tend to be wildly overstated by people who tend to stick to only playing one side. One of the biggest challenges from a balancing perspective is always going to be killer variety. There's a reason that every other game that comes for dbd's spot only has like 3-4 killers, the wider the variance, the more difficult it is to make changes that won't have unforseen consequences for a single killer.
Ultimately the idea of making each killer "as strong as nurse" is itself fallacy.
1. Nurse isn't that strong for every player. If she was, she'd dominate the kill ratings, where she consistently underperforms.
2. The things that make her so strong for those people who have learned her is as much due to survivors not understanding how to play against a good Nurse as it is her unique power, neither of which could conceivably be replicated across the board. Her strength isn't strength, it's uniqueness, which by it's nature is diluted if everyone is the same.

Ofcourse all killers should be viable on all skilllevels but if all killers would be strong like Nurse, how survivor will win? Nurse at least wants some skill, imagine Wraith is strong like her. And he easy level killer. Killers would dominate game.
If it ever did happen, do you truly believe that survivors wouldn't be adjusted at all?
I've never seen anyone make this proposal before you decided to start this thread, but let's go ahead and take a look.
So first, all killers get buffed to be as viable in high level as nurse.
Then, kill rates massively change across the board.
Followed by buffs to survivor experience.
That's how I see it going, as that fits how BHVR already works. Same basic reasoning behind people who want to buff solo survivors up to the swf level. (At least that's the claim they generally make) first you simplify the variance on one side, then correct the other accordingly.

So survivors have to be good at looping (to half-way counter something) but you can just Camp, right?
You just proved my point.
Do you often find yourself starting matches on the hook without ever being chased? Or do you think in these instances the survivors hopped up there themselves and the killer just watched? Because I gotta say, even to camp, you still have to be good enough at the chase to win 2 back to back before you can even hook someone. Also, as they long ago fixed hooks to where killers can't actually afk facecamp, you can, through working with your team, save someone. And no, it doesn't take comms, just common sense.

once again against survivors with 2000 hours IT WONT WORK
It may not work on you and your buddy, but there's footage showing even "comp" teams falling over themselves to give up hits to a camping killer. It shouldn't work, because the counter is there and everyone should know it by now, but it has been my experience that in fact, the more time a survivor has, the more likely they are to believe they are skilled enough to pull off the perfect rescue against a camper. To be fair, I don't play bubba (the campground King) I main doc, huntress and Myers generally, maybe survivors just don't respect the ability of the killers I play to be defensive.

I'd say its an amazing change for m1 killers,Freddy has a bunch of hemmorage addons and now they're finally useful.
It absolutely is, if you can get to the survivor quickly enough to stop the heal. With COH, that's not at all guaranteed.

@Aven_Fallen said:
Just love it that they just dropped another Dev-Notes full of Killer-Buffs and STILL people say that the Devs cater to Survivors.
Yikes³
Let's look at what was actually buffed, instead of just counting quantity, as that's useless.
They changed up GF a bit so the person he's marked can't reveal him. Nice buff, considering the abysmal pick rates he's had, it's far overdue, not really a huge change, but then I haven't seen all the addons they've apparently reworked, there may be something else there.
They changed legion so that there is actually a chance of you getting a down during frenzy, if you manage to get off more hits than there are survivors. While it's great that the power finally has a payoff, I highly doubt it's one you're going to see often, and that's on the rare times you'll even face Legion, who, like GF has a super low pick rate. (sensing a pattern)
That takes us to the one change that will actually benefit all killer players, and not just those who pick 2 specific, generally unpicked killers. Hemmorage. Finally went from being a completely useless mechanic to something that may actually help... So long as you can get to the survivor within the 10sec it takes to get a CoH heal off...
They're positive changes, I'll say that for sure, but let's not pretend any of these are really game changing buffs, they are all a couple orders of magnitude less powerful than say, a set of perks that allow survivors to remove killer perks and replace them with their own team-affecting ones, (that, unlike the hexes they are replacing cannot be permanently removed unless the character that brought them is dead) so if we're going to start comparing by impact, then it's been a damn good 6 months for survivors, and a moderately decent week for GF and legion players. (And the 6 or so people still trying to do a "hit and run" playstyle in the CoH meta)

If they do, but at all levels of play you'll find survivor players that need to get that rescue and be the hero, despite the risk. Just a fact of the game. I don't bother setting arbitrary limits on what I do, I go with whatever works for the match I'm currently in, no matter if I'm playing killer or survivor. As killer, sometimes that involves using someone on a hook as bait. And to be fair, they are on a hook, where worms go.

Could see giving it to him in the end game, make the rockets slow enough to dodge if you're paying attention, instant down (obviously, it's a rocket and nobody has armor, some aren't even wearing shirts), and give him ammunition based on how many hooks achieved before the last gen was powered. So he gets 8 hooks, he gets 4 rockets.

Not exactly, I have no obligation to obey some 3rd party platform's TOS for a game I bought, and I couldn't care less about the opinions from said users of the 3rd party platform. They'd have to pay me.
If you are referring to stream sniping, you have to use twitch to do that, which means agreeing to their tos. At that point it's hardly some third party, it's a service you're using under terms you agreed to.

If you read the thread you'd have a better understanding of it all as the person who exposed the info went into depth about it, unfortunately I can't link it because the info comes from BHVR servers and I doubt they realistically want this info being talked about, it's easily findable on twitter though.
I read the thread, it's got enough caveats to make the information damn near useless as a measure of overall health (though I will maintain you should never have any sustained period of time where there are 36 survivors for every 1 killer). I would love to see more results of similar tests during different times and using different servers. Could be a time of day/regional thing, in which case bribing with bp (or better, shards) would be worth trying, but if it isn't, there would probably need to be some massive balancing/mechanic changes.
I'm not a game designer, I'm a network tech, so while I can speak intelligently on some things, I am not going to pretend I'd know where to begin the changes needed to fix an issue of that scale.

Did you even read the thread about the numbers, at all?
The person that released the numbers said they can actually be indicative of a good thing because that's only who is in Queue, as soon as a match starts they're removed from those numbers, so if there's like 50K people in a region and only 5K players left in the queue pool you still have 45 thousand people in match.
It's still really early here, so I may be reading this wrong, but that doesn't make it better.
If it's just active queue, and not seeing people in matches, that still means there are over 3k survivors in the queue waiting to match with one of 26 killers. There's no chance of any reasonable level of "matchmaking" at that point, be it rank or kill based. You want a 1:4 ratio, not 1:36.
At best you're going to have the majority of your player base in queue waiting for matches with killers who will either be so new that there is no challenge at all in winning, or so experienced that they've got their meta locked down and you don't feel like you have a chance. Meanwhile the killer gets faster matches, but with the same level of variance, which, if they are new players, isn't super likely to make them want to keep playing, which just makes the imbalance worse. I don't know what the solution is, but let's not pretend there isn't a clear issue.

Go see my other thread. I made a modification in the original post just for you.
This is seriously the saddest thing I've seen here. Buddy, go outside or something for your own sake. You are way too into this place, like to an unhealthy level.

now you believe me or not i dont care but you say urself that u because 2 gens pop when you down the first person THAN a hook stage is 60 sec 2 hook stages are 120 sec which means your away from the game for 120 sec and you have 3 survivors doing a gen which takes 80 sec each (no skillchecks missed no great which reduces the time by roughly 2 sec) even if they sat 2 on a gen which is a roughlt 47.5 sec/gen they would still manage to do 3 gens so either ur hacking or the survivors are bad since there is no way you can get form the hook 40 sec after all gens are done and get a down LMAOOOO
+ im 19 so im not a kid i work etc. :)
"but you say urself that u because 2 gens pop when you down the first person"
I read that 3 times, and I think you are confusing me with a different poster. I never said anything about gens popping.
Yes 19 is still a kid. A teenager, to be specific. Congratulations on having a job though, a lot of kids don't.

yea because i have 5000 hours and when i play with some of my friend we have a total of like 10000 hours and i've never been 3k with the magainst a hook camper NEVER NEVER NEVER... why? a person has 120 sec on a hook a gen is 80 sec simple math its like 2 + 2 ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET 3 kills when hook camping unless the survivors are bad ROFLLLLL
Uh huh. Sure kid. Whatever you need to tell yourself. That's why you're here trying to stop camping, because of how little it happens, right? If it didn't work, it wouldn't be nearly as prevalent. It's really that simple.

ur low MMR this wont work if the survivors are even half decent
Of course. How could I forget that you are the one user on this forum who is able to tell everyone's mmr level...
Oh wait, you aren't, you're just making assumptions because it's easier than actually engaging with viewpoints that disagree with you, that's right.

So this was actually a thing?? First time hearing about this- wow.
Yeah, it was a mess, luckily BHVR were pretty quick to fix it. Unfortunately it seems they were too quick, since so many people forgot or just never heard about it.

What if kinship was changed to stopping hook progression while the killer is near you?
What's worse than being camped?
Not having the killer near you, but your teammates still refuse to go for the unhook because they'd much rather use you as a "safe" point to run to any time they are chased... Until you die, of course.
That's literally how it went almost every game when they attempted that very "fix". It's difficult to say if the killer players or survivor players found it to be more annoying, but what is certain is that the experience was worse for everyone than camping.

I would agree.
