  • Old Freddy was not fun to play as or against. People are way too nostalgic if they actually want that back, because he essentially had little to no actual pressure that even basic m1 killers would have.

Freddy was boring then and he's boring now. A mix of the two could be cool though maybe.

  • I dunno about 'everyone' I assume most don't care, and it's those people who will keep coming back to the game. You'd be surprised that there are plenty of people who will put down a game in protest. I don't think it will hurt the game, but I think you discredit them too much, as there are always newer players coming in alongside once again, people who just do not care.

  • It's probably not seen as a thriller... but

    Akira

  • No Hawkins = RPD is more likely

Now it may be because I'm massively sleep-deprived, but I have no idea what you're saying here.

    --

Coming back to @Ohnoes, you are completely right in that using a particular trope (or cliche) often in the same work a (part of) lazy/uncreative writing. I don't fully understand what you're trying to argue by presenting your own work, though.

I'm of the personal opinion that nothing exists in a vaccuum, especially when it comes to writing fiction (being creative, if you will). Everything is based on something that has previously existed, be it fictitious or not. Or to put it a bit more abstractly, I don't think it's possible to imagine (and create) something you've never inexperienced in some form. From that follows that quite literally everything you'll ever create is based on something, and is thereby unoriginal. That's not a bad thing, though. Unoriginal =/= uncreative, though. Or, at least, that's what I like to think.

If used well, tropes/cliches can greatly deepen the story, the world, its characters. But it has to be recognisable, otherwise your audience will have nothing to anchor their own position down to. You quite simply cannot imagine something you've never experienced. A wholly original character, environment, what have you, if such a thing can even exist, would become so abstract, so foreign that it becomes an excercise in futility to even care about them.

I can recommend TV Tropes (https://tvtropes.org/), where you can search for your favourite works and see the tropes it uses being deconstructed. Though it might also ruin your enjoyment of said works.

Also their "tropes are tools" page (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Administrivia/TropesAreTools)

(As a side note, I struggle to express myself when it comes to these abstract things. If none of this makes any sense, that's why.)

False. I will prove you wrong here:

    It's called the Ugly Barnacle.

Once there was an ugly barnacle, he was so ugly that everyone died.

    THE END.

  • Theres other horror games I think you could've added on here, but if I HAD to pick from these, probably FNAF.

The games all have an atmosphere to them and the animatronics can look very uncanny or surreal at times. I'm not a FNAF lore expert, but from what I do know, it's interesting enough to keep people invested. Love them or hate them, they're well-made horror games.

Hello Neighbor was weird and had all these constant changes that made it hard to follow IMO and just became more convoluted.

Baldi's Basics IIRC is mostly a meme game rather than a genuine 'horror' game, the latest one seems like less of a horror game from what I've seen.

BATIM is well made compared to most horror games, but I haven't followed it enough to give an opinion.

    Granny is well... Granny.

    Slender games vary in quality.

Evil Nun is pretty much Granny.

There really aren't many T-rated horror games that I consider scary, then again most horror games aren't.

Howso? It's not something I'm personally aware of.

I wouldn't mind it. I feel like there should be a black & white killer or survivor to go along with it. HOWEVER:

I'd want them to allow survivors and the killer to appear normal color. It would make a lot of sense with the theory that being the world was black & white in the past, while the other characters appear there in normal color because they're from the present/future.

I think it would be very interesting to see a survivor or killer walking around the map with a monochrome color scheme, though maybe from a stealth perspective it'd be quite noticeable or really strange. Which is sort of why I suggested skins as an option for this hypothetical killer/survivor, having both a black and white variation alongside a normal one more accurate to their real selves.

  • Honestly, I wish the zombies could be affected by more perks like how Discordance gives them a bit more direction. That could make them more consistent and engaging.

  • Silent Hill 1-4 and Shattered Memories

    Amnesia: The Dark Descent

    SOMA

    Penumbra

    Bioshock

I wouldn't consider it a 'must-play', but if you've played a lot of horror games or just want something different: Dark Deception

The Devil Came Through Here Trilogy (I consider it more thriller but it has plenty of horror elements)

    Cry of Fear

Resident Evil (The original, or really any of the games up to 4, the newer ones are very different in comparison but still good)

I would also recommend Darkwood, though I haven't played it myself, it's very unique from what I've seen.

  • Even though I hate Freddy, he's far from overpowered, though I don't consider him weak either. His kit just isn't very fun to play against. He needs to be changed IMO, just not because he's too weak or too strong but just making him more enjoyable.

  • Honestly, a Viking outfit sounds more fitting for Jeff rather than David. While Death Metal Jeff could be cool, I think for Halloween he should have something more unique.

  • A lot of anime sadly probably wouldn’t fit into the game. There’s a huge lack of horror anime, let alone POPULAR horror anime. There’s a lot of horror esque stuff though like the stuff you’ve mentioned, but a lot of these wouldn’t fit.

If I HAD to choose, it would probably be Death Note, the live action could be inplemented (easier than implementing straight anime characters, I could see a more realistic Light though), it’s not directly horror but is very much iconic and has enough horror elements that I think it could fit. Parasite I haven’t seen but from what I HAVE seen, maybe? But mostly no. The rest of these are either too ‘anime’ or would be hard to implement (looking at you AOT, though a gigantic killer could be really unique as an idea).

    @Dr_Loomis said:

    Kaneda (Akira)

Out of ANY anime license I’d love to see, it’d be Akira, the characters I feel are ‘realistic’ enough to be implemented into a more realistic style and get away with it. Tetsuo could absolutely work as a killer with a really powerful ability that makes him weaker the more he abuses it.

Akira is an EXTREMELY iconic and influential anime, though sadly it’s not really a horror film, it’s hard to consider it a thriller either. It has disturbing scenes and elements but has always been more of a staple of cyberpunk. I would kill for an Akira chapter, though it would definitely be breaking some rules in my mind. I would main Tetsuo and Kaneda in a heartbeat.

This doesn’t really MEAN much, but a lot of characters have cyberpunk esque haircuts, so someone in BHVR definitely loves their cyberpunk.

  • Jeff? Skins? Sign me up, no questions asked.

  • I feel like it's not necessarily a bad perk, pretty decent and definitely usable actually. The problem with Aftercare IMO is that other aura reading perks are more convenient or easier to use. The information can be nice, but I don't ever find myself making the best use of the information. Maybe that's just me, but it's not always useful or can be replaced for another perk for the same effect. The effect can also be lost pretty easily if you screw up.

Not a bad perk, just a bit outshined by others. Hence why I think a buff would be nice. As to HOW it could be buffed, I'm not sure. It seems like a perk that with the wrong changes, it could become way too strong. Maybe instead of losing all of your info on hook, you only lose 1 or 2 of the survivor auras.

A rework could also work to make it stand out more, but I don't think that's necessary, as (this applies to the former point as well) some perks naturally just will outshine others and realistically a game will never be perfectly balanced nor can you force players to use them.

  • Demogorgon ofc. Can't tell you how many times I've roared just like that while making portals all around the place so I can get around while opening my mouth and hissing for absolutely no reason. So relatable!

Jokes aside, probably Wraith. Apparently, I'm sometimes really good at sneaking up on people unintentionally and am really quiet. Legion would be second, the only reason I didn't pick them is because I wanted to feel special.

  • I think he'd honestly be weaker, but at the same time, not by much.

If this were the old meta with old decisive, then definitely yes, but seeing as it was changed, it's not as great anymore. Not to say it's complete utter trash, as it can save you some time and pretty much remove the 'risks' (too rare or not common enough to really be a risk, but it can happen) of body blocking or flashlight saves. It's like a built-in lightborn in the sense that it counters some of survivors' options and tools, but isn't exactly game-changing or anything.

I kinda do wish the cages did a bit more for this reason since the meta has shifted, but he would still be a tad weaker without his cages. Just a tad.

  • @Purgatorian said:

It should interrupt but the progress made in solving it should not be reset when getting hit by a chain.

Similar idea, but I think to keep the chain hunt somewhat effective, the puzzle box's progress could reduce when you are not solving it. Though even maybe that's a bit much, seeing as Pinhead could interrupt you.

    Nemesis or Micheal.

Michael is literally immortal, and Nemesis is near un-killable.

I would add Pyramid Head in there too, but as far as I know about Silent Hill lore, doesn't he feed off of negative emotions? Well, both Nemesis and Michael are emotionless, meaning Pyramid Head would lose to them.

Well, Pyramid Head doesn't really work like someone with Freddy and doesn't really feed off of negativty emotions rather was created by the negative emotions of James. I don't think he's ever gotten 'stronger' from someone being more negative, just created.

On the other hand, since James eventually was able to confront his feelings of guilt, it lead to the death (at least in SH2) of the two Pyramid Heads.

Then again, he still exists here in DBD, sort of outside of the traditional Silent Hill lore (he got to that point anyway by being put into lots of different games for some reason even though it makes no sense contextually), so best thing I can say from that is he doesn't seem to have any inherent weaknesses. He can be hurt though, but I don't think if it's ever been made clear that he can 'die' since it's not exactly clear (nor do I think they put THAT much thought into it) who is 'guilty' or 'James' in DBD. I'm pretty sure the entity just allows for him to exist outside of that.

  • This is quite tough, but there are some ideas I'd love to see, both licensed and non-licensed:

    Licensed -

    Jim from 28 Days Later

James Sunderland from Silent Hill 2

    Kaneda from Akira

Something from Half-Life would be cool, mostly Barney or Alyx, Gordon I feel would be strange.

    Simon from Cry of Fear

Susan Ashworth from The Cat Lady

    Daniel from Amnesia

    Non-Licensed Ideas -

A traditionally punk survivor, male or female works.

A literal rockstar, I'm talking crazy 80s hair rockstar.

More survivors of English descent, preferably a guy that's a bit more average like Dwight.

Someone from the past, preferably a Sailor or someone from the 18th or early 19th century. This would in general work great for a Pirate themed chapter.

Non specific, and this could fall under licensed, but survivors adapted from older stories into BHVR's own interpretation. Something like Lovecraft or like how they took inspiration from Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde for Blight. I want to see more of these but taking more direct inspiration.

Farmer or Someone who lives out in the country.

A Ghost hunter? Maybe an actual straight-up hunter?

    A mechanic.

An angry businessman or boss. I like this idea a lot as I feel it would be pretty funny.

A junkie or a recovering drug addict. Either would work.

I could go on but I'll end it off with one more:

    A game developer.

  • Flip Flop is the only perk you'll ever need.

  • Could be cool if they made their own version of it, I'm all for BHVR adapting ideas/stories/etc in their own ways and wish they'd do it more often.

  • Chris would be second for me, but I'm also biased, so Lisa.

Off topic, but I'd disagree with Alessa being a legendary. While you are correct about her being her own sort of character, she still basically is both another 'form' (less form and more like Cheryl is a sort of reincarnation of Alessa) and looks quite different from Cheryl. I'm pretty sure they gave Cheryl her outfit mostly because of that rather than with the intention of exactly replicating Alessa.

Alessa herself IIRC is also too young to be in DBD as her 'own' character(if you consider legendaries to be that, though I'm pretty sure this would still apply to that aswell even if you don't).

I was thinking less PH legendary and more just something for a different killer altogether, like a puppet nurse/doctor skin for blight

A lot of Silent Hill monsters are too strange to really work as legendaries in my opinion, but some would probably be:

-Bubblehead Nurse for well... Nurse. Though they already both look somewhat similar and is likely inspired already to an extent.

-The ghosts from 4 for Spirit. Mostly Cynthia, Richard and once again, Walter. It would be strange but the 'phasing' aspect of Spirit wouldn't be too out of place for the characters. Richard would probably make the most sense too due to his somewhat 'twitchy' movement, much like spirit.

    -Patient from 4 for Plague.

-The Prisoners from Downpour for Doctor, while very different in character and how they fight, both look somewhat similar with their faces.

There arent really any else I can think of. Most of these aren't something I'd personally want. Killers being given a separate skin that gives them a sort of Otherworld/Silent Hill aesthetic could be cool though, sort of like with the Blight cosmetics for each killer.

  • In order from which I’d want most to least:

    1: James Sunderland

    2: Maria

    3: Harry Mason

    4: Henry Townshend

    5: Eileen Galvin

    6: Angela Orosco

7: Eddie Dombrowski (Would be a fun meme

    8: Michael Kauffman

9: New killer skin (There are not many skins that would fit on Pyramid Head, off the top of my head, The Butcher and The Bogeyman are two options)

    Extras:

    Murphy Pendleton I wouldn’t mind

Walter Sullivan maybe? It wouldn’t make sense but a younger Walter could perhaps. Either way, he’s one of my favorite silent hill characters.

Dahlia from Shattered Memories, I just really like her different designs and any one could work honestly. Extremely niche pick though. This version of Harry could work aswell.

Other characters are either ones I don’t care for, are too niche, are from a game I don’t like or wouldn’t make too much sense as legendaries (Yes, I know I did put Walter on here but I admit I’m biased towards him, and he does have a genuine fan base).

  • Most of the time no. I don't care to respond if they do either usually, most of the time I'm not trying to play this game optimally (Basically I avoid meta perks for more fun or unusual builds, or at least one that isn't practical at higher ranks) so I don't care much if I win or lose, which means I usually also won't care if I'm insulted.

Also the players I usually encounter are on console.

  • Pyramid Head, Pig, Demogorgon.

Near the ending Lisa starts saying that she is just like them and just realised now and the starts bleeding, dbd ingame's description also hints at this, saying that she's like the monsters roaming the hospital.

i dont wanna spoil anything so ill just say i looked it up and shes human

From memory, she was real, yes, but she had died I think long before the events of SH1. It might be referring to the fact that she, like the monsters, may also be alive as a result of the power of the town of Silent Hill hence being 'like the monsters'. Also, I don't think a character not being 'real' is a real argument for them to not be added. Maria would make a lot of sense. It's either her or James, but since we haven't seen opposite gender legendaries yet, I am assuming Maria. If it's anyone else, I'd be surprised seeing as other female character options would either be too niche or unfitting compared to Maria.

For reference, the other options would probably be: Cynthia(SH4) as Illiterate said though she is niche and had a minor appearance, Anna (Homecoming), Anne Cunningham (Downpour), Claudia (SH3 though wouldn't make much sense since she's the antagonist of the game), Dahlia(Same case as Claudia but SH1, I could see her Shattered Memories version fitting more, but that's a very specific choice), Eileen Galvin(SH4) and Angela(SH2)

Angela is probably the most plausible, but IIRC she's only 16 in the events of SH2 and is dead. It's a bit harder to justify a character aging when they're dead. I could also see Anne but one cop is enough lol. I could definitely see Eileen being added, but she is niche.

  • I steer more towards being indifferent, but I don't think it fits in DBD. I have nothing against SCP and yes, saying a huge catalogue of characters and lore to choose from 'doesn't fit' seems pretty unlikely as there are a handful that probably do and that I can even imagine right now that could work.

The problem for me lies here: I feel if you are going to represent something that originated from the internet, Slenderman makes most sense, but not much else as a lot of other stories are way too niche or (in most creepypasta's case) poorly written.

I feel like a lot of potential SCP's that are most notable and iconic have abilities that would work just fine for a more iconic character, (SCP-173 being the most iconic; his power could just instead be given to Slenderman), there are more unique and interesting ones but that's going even deeper into something already niche. I can't see it, and it would feel weird to me, but it's not impossible and I wouldn't be furious or upset.

If BHVR is fine with using niche characters from a niche franchise, then the possibilities are pretty much endless.

  • I think he represents not only creepypastas, but internet horror in general too. So much so that hes considered by some to be an actual urban legend, you don't see that every day, plus he has a very unique and distinct appearance. I think he deserves to be in DBD, though not to the point that it'd be a crime to not add him into the game.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

People have been wanting Pennywise, and Pennywise and Jack Torrance are both Stephen King villains, so I can see a Shining chapter eventually being added.

I don't know what his power would be though. It's been years since I last watched the movie, but from what I remember, Jack's only ability was swinging that axe around.

I see it the other way around personally, I think Pennywise being added makes The Shining less likely than it already is.

I would prefer The Shining over It by a long shot, nothing against It, The Shining is just awesome.

  • If we're to assume maps get fixed properly to compensate, I think a rework for bloodlust could actually be pretty cool. I always thought it could be a sort of cool mechanic for different killers to be more or less susceptible to bloodlust, removing all tiers as well, I always thought it made sense if you could mori survivors if you had bloodlust (with more requirements of course, otherwise you could just tunnel everyone out the game). You are bloodlusted after all, so it makes sense to me personally, I also thought a perk designed around making bloodlust easier to get, lasting longer, or just, in general, doing more could be cool.

  • I never got the Candyman hype, I understand where it came from though. I have nothing against the movie, but I don't think he'd be all that interesting personally. I wouldn't be mad though.

  • Honestly, I do really like the idea of a gigantic/map based killer. In my mind, I had a concept for 'map based' killers, they only work on one map specifically made for them and work very different from other killers having much more pressure across the map. An example would be how Nemesis has his zombies, but imagine that on a higher scale. Cthulhu could work like that, though Ill take anything Lovecraft, I'd be very interested in seeing BHVR directly adapt Lovecraft based on the books and how they see them as a sort of representation for horror in literature.

Some other ideas I had for 'map based' killers:

The Horde - L4D you get zombies but mostly control the special infected, akin to L4D versus, theres no real 'iconic' special infected, they all are in their own way.

    Deadites - Evil Dead

    Murder Monkeys - Dark Deception

Thats all I really have right now.

  • Fatal Frame is cool, I only played a bit of 2. From what I've seen though, I think it lacks a good killer, though there have been survivor-only 'chapters', so it could honestly work just fine. There probably is a killer that would work, I just don't know them.

A map could be seriously dope though, imagine ghosts on the map, purely cosmetic and passive but seriously sending a chill up your spine. That one armless ghost I saw still messes with me.

  • Big yes on the Cheryl cosmetic, her design in that movie looks cool even though the movie itself was less than so.

    Some more suggestions for Cheryl:

    Shattered Memories

    image.png

Princess Heart (Surprised this isn't already in)

    image.png

    and finally...

Give me my damn James Sunderland legendary already

    image.png

or at least Maria if you want to keep the legendaries specific to the character's gender

    image.png

    As for Pyramid Head

    The Butcher

    image.png

    The Bogeyman (Somehow)

    image.png

As you can tell, I want more Silent Hill cosmetics, and they're missing some pretty obvious/easy money ones. :) Please BHVR and Konami

  • I want Arnold and not the T-800 skeleton, but I guess that could be cool too.

Hard disagree, Jin Yoshida or Terry Akers as a killer would be sick

While those two could be killers, with how they work in the game, I feel like there are better killer options that more or less have the same abilities or are more interesting (Jin Yoshida = Slenderman in terms of how he works), Terry Akers would be the best contender really, but there are better contenders for sounds based killers in my opinion.

Overall, while I do love SOMA, not a lot of the monsters really have an 'iconic' presence and the ones that do reappear I feel aren't unique enough. If you have a concept for them, I wouldn't mind hearing it.

  • With how influental Dark Descent was, Frictional deserves something. SOMA would be cooler thematically though, doing gens and killing survivors underwater sounds wild, it doesn't have any really good killers though unlike Amnesia.

  • Nah. Don't get me wrong, I wouldnt be so furious and angry that I quit the game, but it'd be a weird pick to me as The Babadook wasn't really about the monster (I mean, in a way it is). I think with how psychologically driven it was AND the lack of Babadooks actual presence would just make it a strange pick for me.

I wouldn't mind it though, it just doesn't come off as that kind of license to me, though I guess that isn't really a hit to it. Silent Hill was also psychologically driven and we have Pyramid Head, though I'd argue he has a way bigger presence in the series than the Babadook.

Yeah true but I can't recall one except for Scooby-Doo and glad some people realized what outfit I meant XD.

Some reason when I was little I always found that the diver aka Ghost of Captain Cutler more threatening than any character in the show even in the underwater scenes on parts of the Shipwreck where it creeped me out the most.

Also not saying I want a Scooby doo chapter but just wanna point out an old fashion diver would be creepy in the game and since no one actually owns the Diver outfit style they can make it an original killer which you can buy with shards.

Plus like Adeloo said could have it as a Deathslinger outfit from contest submissions instead if we are never gonna get it as a killer but if it does come to that I just hope its a legendary skin with new audio and chase music since would be weird hearing western music with a Diver chasing you XD.

Overall would be pretty cool killer since we don't have a Sea/Ocean based killer yet besides cosmetics for like Trapper.

You're forgetting our best friend, The Big Daddy.

Im a Amnesia fan since the first one came out, it would be so cool, but I didnt played the third already, did you ?

Which killer could fit dbd in your opinion ?

I was actually surprised when it wasn't in the game's category, Dark Descent is probably one of the most influential horror games of the last decade.

Grunt would be a cool killer, he's the most iconic. Regardless of who the monster is, they need to implement a sanity mechanic for survivors(different from doctors), becoming more insane the longer they're chased by the grunt or within their terror radius which would basically lead to a built-in Stridor (Making survivors louder though not necessarily screaming) and reducing their actions speed slightly and making the vision blurry.

That's how amnesia basically worked with sanity, it would make you easier to find and make your vision blurry. I also imagined the torture devices could be an alternative to the hooks for the Grunt, but can only be used once and inflict permanent status effects on the survivor who was 'tortured'. Brute could also work for this concept, but I think grunt is more iconic to those outside of the community for Amnesia.

I don't think MFP or Rebirth should be implemented, not because they are bad, but they definitely make the monsters and gameplay a tad less engaging which made Dark Descent really unique and spooky. Daniel would be a good survivor, or they could go for another protagonist. Daniel does have a confirmed appearance in the game so there is something to go off of for the model.

Brennenburg would be a ######### amazing medieval-ish map. I could see it being the Choir, though there aren't many places really 'built' for dbd.

Soma would also be dope as heck, mostly for the map though, it really lacks a good killer in my opinion since there's no real consistent threat other than WAU who wouldn't really work, plus the monsters are all really generic. The theme would be unique though.

Penumbra is another good option from Frictional, but it's a tad too obscure for it to have a real chance in my opinion, but I actually see great potential for Clarence's power even though he never really had one, he could infect survivors to 'link' to them and get their information or even mess with them, much like how Clarence did to Philip and how the Tuurngait were a hive mind.

  • The Shining, Attack on Titan, Bioshock, Spawn

I put in Amnesia, as a series they missed, I'd cry if Amnesia got put into dbd.

As an all-in-one dlc, my dream one would be "Silent Hill: The Room", with Walter Sullivan as the killer, and 2 survivors in Henry Townsend and Eileen Galvin.

As a standalone survivor, I'd go for an obscure one in Jonathan Sims from "The Magnus Archives" - an individual touched by the Eye who has perks around all-seeing, all-knowing.

    Jonathan Sims

As a standalone killer (and a bit of fun), I'd go for the Driller Killer from "Slumber Party Massacre 2", if for nothing else other than that weapon and the possibility of chase music in the style of rockabilly.

    The Driller Killer

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/GI3U3KKRL6ZJ/slumber-party-massacre-2-4.jpg

    Walter gang rise up

  • I also want a pirate. Other than that, a Scifi theme would be dope. Something like SOMA, Alien, or The Thing, just something unique.

On the other end, I'd also like something more medieval, the map could be seriously cool.

  • Walter Sullivan was also a cultist. They still put in Pyramid Head despite it making less sense.

  • I don't think it's that she doesn't fit per se, the closest thing I can think of when it comes to that is her height which iirc plague is like 7 feet tall and Dimitrescu is like 9 ft, but I think it's simply because people don't want a newer RE killer and want someone more iconic such as Nemesis or Mr. X.

Also, half the people that want her need to go to horny jail.🤡

Seriously though, we have Trickster, so if her height isn't a problem, she'd fit just fine. BHVR would definitely get backlash though. It would be interesting though if, unlike Silent Hill where they did the first 3 games, they do a combination of classic and new RE (RE2, RE7, RE8?).

People usually just aren't open to new stuff, so I'm not surprised there are people against her, I don't care either way as long as I get Leon or even better CARLOS.
