You know you could do this insanely hard strategy that only the best players know how to do. it's called DO GENS STUPID!
It's weird how such a simple solution has never been tried before. almost like killers camp becuase this is not an effective way to prevent camping, becuase even doing gens It's worth it for the killer to get a quick easy kill and the go after what's left
-
I think the fact that so many are saying hiw good the map Is for the killer and just as many for yhe survivors is an indication that its actually a really well balanced map

I find dead dog is the only map I enjoy equally as both sides.

It is him playing the role, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It is not holding the game hostage since you could have… you know… done gens and escaped. For that matter, there’s Borrowed Time.
If you go against good survivors, you’ll only get that one kill (if you don’t screw up by hitting someone that is unhooking). If you go against great survivors or SWFs most likely you’ll get none because they will sit on gens, finish them and then try to get the hooked person while they’re all healthy and can take protection hits for one another.
If someone is getting camped, do gens and leave. It’s as simple as that.
Yes no one is saying that they are breaking rules. What is being talked about is how
killers will derail any conversation that may address camping. Like this
And hiw to change the mechanics so that killers wouldn't want to camp anymore.
Since you seem to be implying that you don't camp are you opposed to a mechanic that would prevent camping by stopping hook timer when killer is near the hook without chasing a survivor? Since you don't camp anyway right?
-
@Mysterynovus said:
Yeah, it always suck to be the unlucky one to be camped, especially when you were playing optimally prior to it. There really isn't much to be done as this falls under player behavior rather than game mechanic.
I can sympathize but I disagree with nothing can be done as it's a behavior. Most Killers camp because it's effective. If you change the mechanic then they will stop camping. True you can't 100 percent eliminate it but perfection isn't the goal

It's not successful by any metric the devs have said so far - be that hooks, downs, chases, kills, emblems, or points. The only way for it to be successful in any of those ways is for the survivors themselves to make some monumentally bad plays - for you to have made some bad plays.
Of note: I agree that the dev's choice to fail, yet again, at transparency for a system clearly failing us is bad and puts a lot of players in a bind. I agree that camping would and should be addressed if BHVR had any interest in a healthy community. I also agree with people you're picking fights with: camping is not, has not been, and will never be beneficial to killers versus good survivors, however much the rabble disagrees.
Yah funny thing your mention that it doesn't result in kills. Bevusse it is effective at getting kills that's why people do it. If your looking for other killers who think that take a look at impose earlier in this thread.
But If you think killers don't get kills using it, why do you think it's being used so prevalenty and for so long that it's been coming up in these forums for what seems like forever?
-
@ElusivePukka said:
Camping is why those killers will have low MMR - a bad system to support their awful and unproductive playstyles -shrug-
Once you get out of the dregs, campers and tunnellers will drop off, because even the most basic of math tells a killer that those aren't winning strategies.
I mean camping may lower mmr but it may raise it, no one knows what the devs have made thr system track. So unless your working there your just guessing that it will lower it

This is the last time I direct a post at you, as you're about as dense as granite. So I'll make this one VERY simple.
Understanding context.
You: Camping is bad/toxic/whatever.
Me: Camping in general hurts the killer more than it helps except in very specific circumstances.
You: Hah so you admit camping helps the killer. Checkmate.
Again. You're being intentionally dense to try and win an argument to make yourself feel better that you don't know how to handle camping killers. By assuming that I argue a subpoint, you assume I agree with the umbrella point. Take care big guy.
Yah no I didn't say camping was bad toxic whatever.
What I said was that you can't talk about it becuade killer mains will come running to spout stupid things. Which I listed.
Then you said "Show me a single killer main who says camping the hook is a good strategy"
When you later posted that camping is a good strategy I pointed that you were the killer main who says camping is a good strategy. Becuase you did.
Now you really seemed bothered by me poi ting out to you that you are the killer main who thinks camping is good. Which to be fair it is. That's why camping happens so often becusse it's an effective strategy.
That's why the only way to address and reduce camping is to change the mechanics so that it's not an effective strategy.
That's also why killer mains come to posts like this to derail it as best they can because they don't want to lose that as a method to win

Well, yeah, it is kind of a black and white stance. Say I wasn't camping and someone is almost stage 2, I go to camp it and force the state or get a trade. Now I can't just because "camping bad." That would be a massive nerf. Especially if I am forced to leave my gens just so survivors felt comfortable to save. So you know, if they did change that, they would need to compensate somewhere. But obviously that is not part of the conversation because this isn't really a good faith discussion. Lol.
Well you can still camp it it just won't be a winning strategy anymore so most killer won't do it becuase the other survivors will escape.

"If survivors leave another survivor on the hook until 10 seconds is left on the timer, coming back and camping the hook is a viable strategy."
Out of that sentence you took "camping is a viable strategy" and ran with it. So you are either being INTENTIONALLY obtuse, or you simply do not understand how to read a sentence with context connotations. Either way I assume you have no idea what you're talking about.
You asked specifically for a killer main who said camping is a good strategy. That is you. You said it's a good strategy.
Then you went on to describe the when and why it is a good strategy.
Did that context change anything? No becuase when and why was irrelevant to the point that YOU are a killer that said camping is a good strategy.
Unless you want to change your mind and say your post about it being a viable strategy was wrong?

I mean, by all means, propose a mechanic to fix it. The real problem for me is that most people crying about it are doing it for the sake of complaining.
How about hooks pause when the killer is within a certain distance unless he is chasing a survivor?
Most killer mains object to this becusde they claim it can be abused. When pressed about the abuse they say something along the lines of it forces a killer to leave the hook when they don't want to (you know stops them from camping)

And as usual the bads completely ignore the entire context to try and be right when they're just wrong. You keep on keepin on big guy. I'd say I'd be happy to play against you. But you'd never be in my MMR
I didn't read the while post becuaee you asked me to find a killer who thought camping was good and then said it was good in sentence two of your rant so commented. There is no context that changes you are the killer you were looking for
-
@Impose said:

Because if survivors leave someone on the hook in stage 2 until there's 10 seconds left of their hook. Coming back and camping it is a viable strategy. If you dont think it is, then you just aren't good at the game. Don't know what to tell you.
And no. I don't support any change to the hook state. The game shouldn't be forcing people to play how you want them to be played, thats the biggest slippery slope I've seen for this game. The rules of the game are in there, use them how you want. Just like I don't support speeding up the EGC to stop survivors from tbagging at the exit gates. You don't like the survivors tbagging at the gate? Don't lose, or dont go to the gate. Pick one.
"If camping wasn't effective it wouldnt be prevalent." That statement is only true assuming everyone is good at the game. They aren't. I literally just today watched a couple friends brand new to do the game play an inhouse. Killer camped one person to death. Everyone sat behind a rock scared cause they dont know what to do. Camping is effective, to bad players. I don't care about bad players. I really don't. Get good. Its kinda mean I fully realize but if you want to ######### about something that is easy to fix YOURSELF, then shrug. You see a killer camping. Go do a gen and a half. Punish him for it. Run BT with a flashlight. Run Decisive Strike. Run Soul Guard/Unbreakable.
Hey look at that 2nd sentence camping is viable it's almost like the conversation went exactly as I said it would by the killer mains hahahahahahah
So I guess if your looking looking a killer who says camping the hook is a good strategy I will direct you to the nearest mirror
Edit I didn't read the rest of your post at first but I should point out a decent killer facecamping will grab anyone who tried to unhook so no bt and and crappy killer who can't manage a grab is gonna run bubbas chainsaw

Show me a single killer main who says camping the hook is a good strategy. I'll show you a bad killer main.
Saying a killer main "relies" on camping the hook just means you're quoting bad killers. So keep on with that strawman.
Oh there's plenty of those too watch the killer mains come in with I don't camp only the worst killers camp. then it turns to well it's alright to camp in some situations (usually when they feel there loosing) becuase you gave to camp on those situations.
If camping wasn't effective it wouldn't be prevalent. But hey impose how about a mechanic change where hooks don't progress when the killer is near the survivor and nit in a chase?

I am venting, but man... It is so hard to meet people that aren't toxic on this game. :\
I play with friends and this guy claimed his "tunneling and camping" is him playing the role. To me that is holding the game hostage for that person the killer stands RIGHT in front of. He did this to THREE of us, back to back.
OR why can't they do like a 3 second invincible perk after unhooking.. :\
Yah you can't mention how awful camping is around here, and don't propose any mechanic to fix this becuase the killer mains rely on It so all you'll get is a torrent of Camping is good becuase it let's killers kill or something to that effect. My personal favorite is when they say a mechanic won't work becuse it will prevent camping and that's just not right

It is also worth mentioning that earning more than 20,000 bloodpoints as survivor is the exception, not the norm.
For killer it depends on the killer you play. The devs made some killers earn more points with their powers than others.
A killer like Blight will earn a crap ton of points in the deviousness category. The man is a bloodpoint machine because the devs made his power generate a good amount of bloodpoints.
Meanwhile plague and billy are still struggling to fill their deviousness score. Instead relying on the other three categories for the bulk of their points.
( to a degree it also depends on the skill of the survivors, some teams you'll barely be able to do anything against. Others you'll curbstomp, either scenario will usually result in a less than stellar amount of points )
but that largely depends on how well MMR works, which has been neither here nor there.
If you bring were gonna live for ever you'll asily get more than 20k bring an offering and you almost have to try to get less than 20k

Oh man are you gonna be mad when you find out the trickster has to hit more than 4 times just to donone point of damage

My question Is why not show the swfs. I usually play with a friend or two when I play survivor, I can't see a downside in showing after the match so why not?

If you want some actual decent items, you're meant to combo chest-searching perks with Plunderer's Instinct, such as Appraisal, Ace in the Hole, and/or Pharmacy. Your chances of finding good items is not that high with Plunderer's, as it's main function is to show you the auras of chests, the increased rarity is a bonus, but I'm sure if someone found the numbers, you'd see it's not that good. Even still, realistically all you should hope to find in a chest is a brown med kit, or maybe a flashlight or yellow+ toolbox. The brown med kit is one full health state, as well.
Yup
- Grants a considerably better chance at finding an Item of a higher Rarity from Chests.

If you are being camped ideally it should be your job to keep the killer there, so no struggling, and if the survivors can see a camping killer then they should just do gens.
You are still being a team player by not dcing or giving up on hook, keeping the killer away from gens.
It may be their playstyle, boring I know, or they may have just had a bunch of bad games and want a kill to feel a bit better.
I have noticed this getting worse over the last few months though and fear it won't get better until something is done about gens being completed too quickly. Not saying it will stop tunnelling and camping altogether but may lessen it a bit.
Yah that's why they should let survivors do something to camping killers so its not so boring to just sit on the hook waiting to die

1. By complex, I do not mean something a layman cannot fathom, but there is too much information that cannot be displayed neatly enough. So no "no, just no" :D. It's possible that it would display as more than a single number or pretty emblem.
2. You miss the point though. Depipping isn't how it once was. Before, people would control depipping because they knew which rank they would go to. If the SBMM works differently, then how many times do you depip? How many others will be in the same area, depipping as you, who you'll end up facing? Has the system got capacity to tecognise people who stay still vs people who try but don't do well? How do you know it's as simple as a win/loss? What is a win/loss classed as anyway? It may not be as easy as you think it is.
Ultimately, a big error that may be being made by people is that there is a ranking system, or you need to define win/loss. If it's SBMM, there is no need to rank people or put winners against losers - it's match-making based on skill. A killer may get 1k every match, but if they are scoring well in each category they will face tougher opponents than those who get 2-3k with the camping lifestyle. That flies against ranking in terms of win/losses, and how the system might be working.
I doubt it's as complex as that, but if you want examples, I'd say these have potential.
Oh sorry your talking nit about doing nothing but playing to win in such a way that the rank stays low. All the more reason to make it visible then so that the devs can tweak it to prevent that sort of thing.

Terrible teammates make the game fun for both sides, albeit there was frustrating aspects to it as well.
If you don't find dominating potato survivors as killer fun, or seeing megheads or baby dwights do the weirdest cute stuff, you're too sweaty.
Hiw exactly is the game fun if you have terrible teammates? I don't particularly enjoy matches where I get hooked to find my entire team sitting around doing nothing. Or as a killer it's not much fun to play against survivors who get chased for all of 0 seconds and do no gens becuase they are constantly explodinh the gens.
If you enjoy that why dont you just play just play a custom match one Killer on survivor and set them to just walk forward constantly if you just want an easy win to feel good about yourself? Stay away from matchmaking all together?
-
@Marc_go_solo said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2485850#Comment_2485850
There are a couple of possible reasons why:
1. The scoring is too complex to show. As in, it tales an average, but that average over time could end up inbetween emblems, so the average may become somewhere between Silver and Bronze, for example. There might be a numerical value, but how the calculations are made might not make much sense to a casual observer.
2. People had manipulated the past ranking system, so by hiding a complex system makes it harder. If people are too focused on depipping, but don't understand the emblem idea, those who try to "derank" only make it worse for themselves.
Again, I honestly have no real idea how it works. But if I was to implement a SBMM then that's how I would look at it, at least from a survivor point of view. I'm guessing for killers it's more complex, since their emblemic measures do not work in symmetry with survivor measurements.
1 no, just no. This isnt some unknowable arcane magic.
2. Deppiping is easy that's why there are killers and survivors who just stand around aimlessly. Showing the number isn't going ti help them figure out that not playing will result in a lower score than playing
-
@Marc_go_solo said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2484949#Comment_2484949
I can invent one plausible reason why they are not showing the number. It could be that it's not A number, but 4 numbers. This is obviously guesswork, but here's the thinking:
People have looked at the end page of the results, where opponent's grades are, etc.. But I think the BP score and whether you "win" or "lose" is irrelevant, since this is skill-based, not result-based. Instead, I'm looking at the Emblem page, where four categories are rated seperately.
Take a survivor who gets Gold in all emblems, bar an Ash in Benevolence. Through SBMM, it searches for a team mate who is as close to each result. So between a survivor who has 2 Golds and 2 Silver (in Objectives and Lightbringer and Evader), and a survivor who has 2 Golds and 2 Silvers (in Benevolence and Evader), the latter survivor would be paired with the original survivor, because that score matches closer to each individual emblemic score (Silver in Benevolence being closer to Ash than Gold, and other Emblems maybe only 1 rating out).
Over time, each player's separate emblemic categories average out, and more and more people get paired with similar performers in each category.
Obviously, I have no solid proof, and it's just a thought, but in my games there are a lot of selfless individuals who seem to respect each side, and also I haven't come across one person who has hung at the gates any longer than normal. People also seem to be doing everything: I'm not having one guy focusing on just gens or encouraging killers into long chases (or so they think!).
I'm not sure how it works exactly in relation between killer and survivor, but overall if I was to think of one logical reason why ratings aren't shown, it would be because it would be too complex with too many separate numbers to make cohesive sense.
If it is something like this though, it would cause havoc with people wanting to "derank" to easier levels: They'll probably end up with a complete mess.
I'm not going to disagree with the possibility of multiple values giving a general score.....but why hide those 4 values?

All it does is make matches harder for both sides for absolutely zero benefit. There's no reward to being good at this game other than frustration and misery.

Isn't the benefit that you play with people who are as good as you, so you don't getstuck with a bunch of terrible teammates?

Sooooo yeah.
Without the numbers being visible how can one tell if it's settled and working as well as it's ever going to, or simply bugged and having low skill players play high skill players.

Well, obviously you've already made up your mind that BHVR is withholding the skills rating information to "hide bugs" or have some other nefarious reasons. Of course, it could just be that they want players to just focus on their matches and do their best to escape/kill instead of focusing on some numerical value assigned to them by SBMM. Because ultimately, these things shouldn't matter to the players playing the game - it's simply a matchmaking system, and not a win condition. But sure, go ahead and develop some grand conspiracy that BHVR developers all have some sort of scheme to "deceive" their playerbase so that their bugs are less prevalent than they already are.
No I suppose i can't say they are doing it solely to hide bugs. My point has been that the effect of hiding it regardless of whatever motive they chose to state, is that it will take longer to fix if it was hidden than if it was visible.
I ask you again why do you want thr number hidden so badly?

Is it a problem? Doesn't seem like it to me - like I said, the system seems to be doing exactly what the developers are wanting it do, regardless of whether it's what you or I want. And yeah, patience is a virtue. Compiling data takes time. So why should the developers listen to reactive players' handwringing when they're not even giving the new system a chance on it's very first day?
Hahaha I like how he posted just above how he's having problems and your response is well I'm nit having a problem so a problem must nit exist.
Also what does patients have to do with not hiding the skill value they place.? What exactly is the problem with having that number shown? Well except for the fact that bugs could be reported and you seem to be in denial that they exist

Sure, but I don't like throwing out random conspiracy theories on what could happen without substantial proof. And I don't see the point of all the handwringing on the first day of bringing out a new system - personally I'm willing to wait several months at the very least to form an opinion.
And even if you were right and that were the case, at that point, when players realize that they can't seem to get fair matches no matter how many matches they lose horribly, they'll stop playing. And then the developers will wonder why, and reassess their data and most likely fix it.
Either way, it sounds like a developer problem; not mine. I can always go play other games.
So to summarize your point it's don't point out any problems woth the game just wait for a few months to see if it goes away on its own and of it doesn't then just quit and go elsewhere?
I mean it could be a bug they are unaware of so if we all take your advice it would just never get fixed...seems like a better option would be if you took your own advice and just didn't say anything ever. Why are you on the forums then?
