Another funny thing that I found funny is that the killer is EXPECTED to do ALWAYS well for the community's standards, no matter what the survivors are, no matter the addons/items/perks/offerings used, the killer MUST always do at least a 2k because muh stats (which btw I don't even took those into the equation since they are FLAWED and don't take into account how the match is played)
I disagree. Nobody excepts a killer to do well, but if a killer doesn't get even a 2k, they probably had a bad match. It's not expectations, its the standards for a "good" match, which are understandable.

Most of the answers here show how much arrogant and blunt is the community of dbd: you are judging a player WITHOUT even seeing the matches that I did... Another reason to ignore people who don't even bother to have a civil chat (I appreciate the FEW people in this thread who are trying to explain their point of view without being pricks tho)
And you're not seeing the matches others are playing. If I win 10 games as Sadako, and you lose 10 games, that does not mean Sadako isn't viable. You just had a bad 10 games.

... We reached the point where only 2 killers are BARELY viable (nurse and blight, but i've still some doubts on the 2nd one in certain maps) due to EXTREMELY bad map design (easily linked strong loops paired with BS hitboxes), broken stuff (instaheals, styptic agents, anti hemorrage syringe, bnp, etc etc)h, better coordination due to the new survivor's hud, generators that are too fast and easy to do (at high mmr it's normal seeing 3 gens pop after a SINGLE chase) and perks that are too much strong, especially if stacked together (dead hard above all). Honestly i'm tired of all that bs that survivors have at their disposal and being PUNISHED for every action that i can do (want to do mixed hooks and injuring everyone? medkits, CoH and dead hard will deny this gameplay. wanna defend generators? Good luck with all the best perks that killer have nerfed into the ground and the new one that aren't strong enough for that matter. Wanna dispose of a survivor ASAP in order to get an easier late gane? No chance with the huge amount of chances that survivors have between bodyblocking, instaheals, perks and mostly the maps being essencially too much safe generally speaking). Back in the days (2019) this game was A LOT more funnier and healthier despite there was more broken stuff to use for both sides (probably because the broken addons/items were actually RARE and EXPENSIVE, but there are other reasons that i won't waste time to name it otherwise i could wrote an essay).
to put in short words personally speaking i don't have reasons to still play this... Game... since i want to have fun and not being under pressure like if i'm actually working, it's not fun, it's not healthy and it get boring fast... i know that the experience is different for some people (when i see certain streamers for example they have ALWAYS potatoes in their game that don't even know what a loop is just to make an example... I've certain theories even about those situations, but it's offtopic) but for me it's just became stale, unfun and frustrating...
p.s: i refuse to play only survivor since pressing m1 on generators in order to escape is boring as hell and it get old FAST
You can get a 4k with every killer in the game, some are just harder to use than others. Trust me, there a more viable killers than those two.

Problem is, yeah sometimes there is no more options that tunnel someone out. But even if bhvr give other options, if killers win by kills and not by hooks tunnel is going to be more efficient overall.
Which is such a crappy aspect about the game. I wish there was a way to make tunneling less of an option while also giving killers more efficient ones in its place. Like I wish tunneling was detrimental until it was a MUST somehow.

Disagree.
Killers will tunnel as long as it's the easiest and most efficient strategy.
And then they'll still do it if its not. And they'll still complain when people suggest ways to discourage tunneling with the trade off being killers get buffed so they have more options. So where does that leave the killer playerbase?

@Deathstroke said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3374958#Comment_3374958
They can't really buff killers much if tunneling remain as the best strat. It's even more common now so that might even keep kill rates high as before. The survivor effiency now mostly hurt killers who don't play optimally and play for fun.
I mean killers usually seem to tunnel because they feel they have no options. If they had options, tunneling may at least go down a bit (at least if 4-5 gens are remaining). Maybe buffs could make killers feel like they have more options other than tunnel? With that being said, Survs will still be buffed sooo... idk
-
@HugTheHag said:
The devs' intention was never to buff survivors and leave killers hanging. However, it's hard to see the effect of one change (new UI) on the killrates if it's introduced in the same update as a killer buff.
They have already said that they are monitoring the numbers closely and will buff killers (or nerf survivors) accordingly in the next few updates if the UI skewed the intended killrate too much.
I think we can expect some buffs for killers (for the love of all that is unholy, please let those be killer-specific buffs instead of general buffs that don't solve specific killer's problems) in the midchapter, or maybe survivor nerfs. We did have that CoH nerf foreshadowing in the same notes that announced the Eruption nerf.
Balance is on the way ! =D
Great points! I never thought of how it would be hard to see the effect of one change (new UI) on the killrates!

"why not discourage unskillful plays?" Is what you are describing as unskilled plays really that unskilled?
Its just gameplay, some things work better for one side to the detriment of the other, as to be expected, and one could make the point that a seemingly strong tactic/perk/addon (AKA unskilled) by one side is the motivation for more skilled play by the other.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3372463#Comment_3372463
Is tunneling not a relatively unskilled way of playing? I'm not saying it isn't powerful , but how skilled is it really?
-
I'm honored to me mentioned, but I've gotta say...
I'm seeing so many people in here talk as if either sides should give a single **** about the other's level of fun. My thread about tunneling was to discourage tunneling specifically more at 5 generator remaining, a point where a killer is at their weakest, but isn't necessarily in a position of total desperation.
There is definitely an argument to be made where going and interrupting gens and chasing another survivor is more productive than tunneling.
@Nos37 said:
You see countless "don't tunnel" threads here, but don't listen to them.
I played the killer and spread hooks, hooking the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd survivor, but the 4th survivor wouldn't let me hook them. When the gens finished, they all left.
They didn't care about me or my fun... Why the fog are they asking that killers respect theirs??
They shouldn't be asking. Not at all.
@Nos37 said:
Not just one match.
The past 50 killer matches, I've used Nowhere to Hide, Lightborn, Iron Grasp, and Mad Grit, went from gen to gen kicking the ones with progress to see auras and get into chase, used THREE perks to stop survivors from preventing me from hooking after a down, and then moved on to patrolling gens again.
It's a nice way for me to play the game stress free, but it also means 4 survivors walking out the door, match after match. I'm pretty sure SBMM has either been secretly disabled, or they stopped counting losses to prevent smurfing, because I'm not ever getting to the point of 2 kills / 2 escapes.
I mean you're not using a strong build at all, and I'd love to know which killer you're playing as in this scenario. I do applaud your stress-free playstyle though.

PRECISELY my point that people missed on my post. People should be able to play however they want, but why should the game not encourage more skilled plays? The idea that killers must tunnel immediately off of 5 gens remaining is absurd. While there is definitely a time and a place for tunneling and even camping in order to get kills, I think the opinion of when those moments are in regards to a large portion of the killer playerbase are skewered.
Where my suggestions perfect? Hell no, I didn't even think that while writing my post.
But, I come back to the same point, why not discourage unskillful plays? Why not encourage skilled ones (or risk taking in general)?
@stonedcandle said:
No one expects killers to pull their punches? Have you never looked at this game's forums? Or watched one of their fog whisperers? Every survivor has been taught to expect the killer to "play nice" or be shamed out of the game. Either that or they scream bloody murder on the forums until the killer can only throw pulled punches.
Eruption was useful for 2 months before it got backhanded. Meanwhile, CoH is still an issue for anyone reliant on spreading out injuries, so every killer except Plague because of mechanics. It's to the point where you don't see it not because it's not a good perk but because it adds a new level of face roll to the game that's boring AF. You really only see it now on sweat squads because of how ridiculously easy it makes the game.
I tried doing what the OP said before Eruption got nerfed and it was barely doable then. If you're facing an even slightly competent player you're going to have to resort to some sort of "sleazy" tactic to get a kill and their team.
I will admit that I see why killers are feeling pinned in a corner right now. I think the devs should mirror killer buffs with the new Solo-Q buffs they've put out. Ideally, Solo-Q would be as strong (or super close to) and SWF, and killers would receive appropriate buffs as well.
My recommendation is speed up killer actions again.

Learning to loop better may not stop the Killer from "attempting" to tunnel you, but it may help you to not go down. Someone with 5K hours across two platforms should know that is a fact. Looping better helps you not get hit. If it didn't, people wouldn't do it.
Second, I'm not "moaning" about bodyblocks, I'm just stating a fact. It was designed/implemented as a defense from tunneling, not as a free health state just cause. If you want to use it to body block, be my guest. Play the game how you want. However, when I shift my focus back to that survivor and put them on the hook, they have no business complaining.
My point is that if BHVR ever decided to implement something more severe to discourage Tunneling, survivors would find a way to weaponize it beyond what it was intended for. You said it yourself, asking them not to is insane.
You're argument is that tunneling on 5 Gens "doesn't promote skillful gameplay or learning". No player here has that responsibility. Every player in this game paid their money, and have the right to play the way they want to. Players don't owe you, me, or any other player anything. We don't need to prove our "skills", we don't need to be demonized for using strategies available to us. We certainly don't need BHVR to step in and use game fixes to address player problems.
I love how you've said that learning to loop better helps you not go down. What an obvious, nothing claim. I'll say what I said before, because what you've said doesn't even begin to nullify it: learning to loop better will not stop killers from attempting to tunnel.
I argue that tunneling at 5 gens doesn't promote skillful gameplay because I think the game should ENCOURAGE skillful gameplay. Players should not be forced to play a specific way, but there should probably be measures taken to promote learning anyways. Its not a player problem, its a problem with the game.
I'm not saying anyone has something to prove or anything.

I think it should be done in the base mechanics so that a survivor can hang on each hook for 5 minutes and after hanging each survivor this time will decrease by 1 minute
That's a cool concept. Having the game get faster and faster as the idea of a three gen gets closer and closer (something that can stall the game).
This would provoke the killer to actually go and get more hooks.
-
Gates of Hell (Killer Perk)
You know their way out.
Every time the a survivor is hooked, Gates of Hell gains a token up to a maximum of 5 (3, 4).
For each token, Endgame Collapse timer increases in speed by 5% (3%, 4%)
Simple perk, but I feel it could lead to tense endgames.
-
Nope. Everything else needs to be buffed. It makes NO sense to discourage people playing together.

-"1. Implement a MASSIVE bloodpoint deficiency"
This isn't why people tunnel. You might as well punish SWF with point penalties for playing together to curb the advantage of voice coms. It's very reasonable actually to say : you will be given a 20% point penalty to your 4 man team because you are likely to earn 20% more points. It would make survivors very angry.
Do you not notice that for the most of the day killer is sitting with a 100% bonus? Nobody wants to play killer anymore.
-2. A survivor should last longer on hook if tunneled"
This is the wrong idea. You have perks to prevent tunneling. They include DS, Reassurance, Off the Record. The killer has no perks to prevent gen tunneling besides Deadlock - which has never appeared in the shrine.
Survivors need to stop tunneling generators so the killer stops feeling like they need to tunnel the survivors to win.
Tunneling one player for three hooks reduces enemy team efficiency by 25% so THAT is always going to be the killer's best play unless they get a base kit buff where something else is better. As an example : give the killer a stackable 9% debuff that affects generators/totems/hooks/healing/chests/doors. Every time you hook someone for the first time the team gets another 9% debufff to all actions (except things like unhook speed/vaulting/moving). If the killer sacrifices a player then they can't get the 9% stacking debuff from a player who has not been hooked anymore.
As a reminder: this needs to be base kit. Deadlock also needs to be base kit and have "rollback protection" so that if two gens finish at the same time then one is returned to 99% progress and blocked for 30 seconds. The perk by the same name would extend that timer by 30 seconds.
Before we had bast kit BT the survivor objective was shorter than the killer objective. Nothing changed here in a positive way for the killer. Time to kill went up and the killer had to tunnel MORE as a result of base kit BT.
Let us not forget about the hud changes. This makes survivors massively more efficient. What did killers get? They get more frustrating games that end faster.
Getting bloodpoints obviously isnt why people tunnel and I don't claim that, but giving killers less for doing it would be a way of discouraging them from doing so. Even if its just slightly.
Also, did you just ask survivors to stop doing gens as quick as possible?
Also, I like your deadlock idea.

@martinj97 said:
Many proposals to fix tunneling would turn the potentially tunneled survivor into an untouchable bodyblocker. This is not balanced.
I think we need to ask the question: How bad is bodyblocking immediately off hook? Right now, a killer can wait out BT and get a down without penalty. If an unhooked survivor takes a hit with BT to bodyblock, then they are in an awful position because they cannot use things like DH as the endurance status effect doesn't stack. There's not many scenarios that promote an unhooked survivor to actually take a bodyblock.

that could work, but tunneling someone out of the game-no matter how long their second stage or how many bps you lose-will almost always make the game significantly easier and lead to a near guarenteed win
True, but longer hook states could give teammates more of a chance to do gens. If the killer keeps tunneling, then that one survivor will probably die, but the others have a chance to slam gens harder, meaning that a killer may have to actually go interrupt them in order to better their chances at a 4k.

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3365981#Comment_3365981
not to mention how dh and coh promote tunneling in their own ways
a freshly unhooked survivor has 2 healthstates guarenteed (dh/bt/otr and the injured health state), meanwhile the unhooker has up to 3 (healthy, injured, dh). if you go after the unhooker, it will be nearly guarenteed to be a longer chase. if you go after the unhooker, the last person hooked can heal in coh, now you have another 3 health state survivor to chase
I'd say this is more of a DH problem than a COH one. Also, DH can be baited or waited out. COH could ne nerfed more, maybe.
-
@jinx3d said:
the issue with tunneling is that it needs a definite definition in game, and its only a problem when its deliberate. if the killer manages to hook somebody else-for this example, lets say a meg was first hook, then feng-in less than 60 seconds, and the killer finds meg again, why should they be punished and forced to play hide and seek with the other two in order to progress their objective? if feng gets unhooked, thats half the lobby the killer gets punished for going after. we shouldnt punish tunneling, we need to promote going after new people, and have "new people" be anyone who wasnt the last hook. back to my example-meg would be a good person to chase after hooking feng because the killer would now get whatever buff you get from not going after the last hooked person
early game is already the killers absolute weakest point, i dont think we need to make that even worse, then we'll end up like evil dead the game-20 minute+ survivor queue times because killer absolutely sucks to play
Maybe if another survivor is downed within the timer, the timer stops?
-
@RaSavage42 said:

would still feel incredible ######### for the killer.
he does nothing wrong he goes for the unhooker he doesnt want to tunnel and the surv takes a system that is designed to deter from tunneling and use it as a weapon. thats just not good and thats why bhvr doesnt do things like that just look back at the anti camp system they tested where survs instantly came up with a way to use it against the killer wich is why it doesnt got into the game.
i dont say they shoulnd come up with a solution for tunneling and camping but as long as there is a way for it to be weaponized it cant work
But this is the problem, they're not weaponizing the basekit BT. The point of BT is to make tunneling right off hook just less effective enough so a survivor has the chance to put themselves in a situation to make a skillful or helpful play and not just go down immediately to the killer. Unlucky for killers, taking a hit may be the best play in a certain situation.
Now, on the killer side, tunneling may become the best thing to do for a killer, but not at 5 gens remaining. Idk why the hell tunneling at 5 gens would be the only option for a killer.
Also, remind yourself of when basekit BT didn't exist. tunneling was so easy to the point where it could be done immediately, and survivors were in the position that a lot of killers think they're in now: They have no options.
My point is, killers have options at 5 gens, and taking a bodyblock with BT isn't weaponizing it.

okey so i try to dont tunnel and go for the unhooker you run into my face blocking me maybe even blocking a door i down you loose aditional time from the weapon wipe and then i cant hook you cause i would get a penality so i dont even get bp for hooking you nor does it advances my objective while youre mate got away.
that does not sound nice at all. i wonder why so many killer are against most anti tunnel ideas even when they are against tunneling
This is why the amount of gens left is important. If this were to happen to you at 1 or 2 gens left, it won't mean much. If this happens at 5 gens, you can still slug to cause pressure or take the penalty.
-
@drsoontm said:
1) irrelevant
2) exploitable. Just look at all the survivors using BT as a tanking mechanism to see how much they want to be tunneled (I make a point tunneling and killing any survivor doing that)
The incentive for tunneling is the lack of other options.
The more these options are being curtailed, the more tunneling happens.
So far, every move since at least the "big overhaul" has been turning the need for tunneling up to 11.
"The incentive for tunneling is the lack of other options."
I'm sorry but that's total bs, at least for killers who tunnel with 5 gens left.
Obv. there are some scenarios where there are no options, but my suggestions are mostly meant to counter tunneling at 5 gens, which just shows a lack of skill.
Also, what options have actually been taken from killers? The devs increased gen times, a killer can still go after another person, they can currently wait out BT and hook again with no penalty, they can go to another gen that survivors are working on, they can get into another chase, etc.
What options are begin taken that AREN'T related to tunneling? I'm not saying playing killer is easy, it's usually not, but I don't see why killers need the "I NEED TO TUNNEL AT 5 GENS" mentality when there ARE options.

They already did something to address tunneling. They gave everyone basekit BT. What did survivors do with it? Did they use it as intended to make distance and not be tunneled? No, they weaponized it for a free body block, then still come here and whine about being tunneled.
You want to avoid being tunneled, learn to loop better, put in the hours to learn, and stop asking BHVR to fix your lack of skill. I mean that in a general sense, not at YOU directly good sir.
Damn, you're a pretty aggressive killer main lmao. As someone with 5k hours across two platforms I can guarantee learning to loop better will not stop killers from attempting to tunnel lol.
My own skills, or the skills of survivors, have NOTHING to do with how a killer choses to play.
Also, moaning about how survivor use free BT to take a bodyblock is dumb. I'm sorry. Wait. it. out. Or hit it to get it over with. To expect a survivor to have BT, and NOT take a bodyblock is expecting them not to make good use out of their situation. Survivors are meant to help their teammates, and to ask them to not is insane.
The basekit BT does little to nothing to actually counter tunneling, as it doesn't last for very long. It helps, but it's not actually a HUGE plus.
Also, if we're bringing up skill. YOU need to learn to chase better and put in the hours to learn. I and so many others have won TONS of killer games without tunneling off 5 gens. Its indicative of your skill if you do that.

I think the perk is pretty unsalvageable, honestly; Dead by Daylight is such an all-or-nothing game that an Exhaustion perk you can activate by pressing E will always be too good and/or frustrating. And there are very few changes you can make to it that would actually remove the frustrating aspect of it for Killers. It needs to do something completely different from what it did.
Here's how I'd rework it:
You can take a beating.
After being unhooked, recovering from the Dying state, or being healed, Dead Hard activates for 4 seconds:
If you start to run while Dead Hard is active, break into a sprint at 150% of your normal movement speed for 5 seconds and Dead Hard deactivates.
Dead Hard causes the Exhausted status effect for 40 seconds.
Dead Hard cannot be used while exhausted.
I actually really love this

1) Dead Hard no longer works on M2 powers.
2) Dead Hard deactivates for the rest of the game if it is successfully used.
3) Dead Hard no longer gives a speed burst if the survivor is hit during the endurance window.
There you go. Triple nerf Dead Hard with all three of those things, so we can finally bury the perk.
Thankyou. Sorry I didn't mean to be rude. I just want to promote actual constructive comments instead of one that say "just nerf it" or "delete it"

We don't need dead hard to become more like old dead hard. We need it nerfed into the ground like the eruption nerf. Or we need to triple nerfed like what they did with Nurse. We should stop thinking of useful reworks, and instead think of ways the perk can get nerfed into the ground.
Alright. You do it. Think of a way, and tell us.

I don't think it's isolated to just Demo. How do you outplay DH at tiles as Billy? If you use your chainsaw the survivor can just E it. Same thing should apply to Bubba. Huntress gets her hits near corners which allows DH to have a predictable window. Wesker can struggle the same way with DH. Knight/Nemesis are free 3rd/4th health states. As nem you can just E the zombie. Demo might be the most affect by the perk but I don't think its fine vs a bunch of m2 killers.
I posed a DH rework on another thread just now. Can I get your thoughts?

I think people would catch on pretty quick after a change like that tho.
Similar to how people slowly learned how to use the new DH better.
In the end, there is no counter to free distance for most killers. Especially M1 killers, which would be the ones getting hit hard by that change, while top tier killer would be buffed by the lost of invulnerability.
True, but that goes for all exhaustion perks. The sad difference with DH is that survivors have full control of when they use it with the press of a button so long as they're injured.
I wish I could think of a way to remove that button pressing component.

You know most people didn't use old DH to dodge lunges right?
That wasn't the good part of the perk, that was more of nice bonus.
What most people realized is that you could use DH to get distance to a pallet or window for free. You are bringing that back. I don't know how that would go.
We must have had different experiences playing against old DH. Good players used it for distance, but let's be honest half the survivor player base isn't fairly good. Most survivors I went against basically used old DH just like they're using new DH.
I also feel like the idea of bringing back the distance aspect makes it more like the other exhaustion perks, which all give you distance under specific circumstances. Sadly DH is the only one that simply requires a button to be pressed to work.

Yeah the game is a tight map the pallets are needed tbh
"Tight map"
"Pallets are needed"
You either haven't played the game, you're a survivor main, or you're trolling lmao.

I bait as much as I can and most times when I'm successful on a bait the survivor gets the old DH for distance. Eating DH is pretty normal for Demo. The only thing you can do vs decent survivors is bait the shred when they are at the corner with flicking your camera as the hiss happens. This means outplaying the survivor rewards the killer with old DH.
I feel like this is a problem with Demo though. Which really sucks as BHVR can't do anything to him anymore
