I'm curious what killer the OP plays. I've started using the twins and victor is great on indoor maps

I played several maps on the RCPD and got creamed each time. The whole team did. Just because it's indoor and there are more walls doesn't mean that a killer is suddenly helpless. They just don't have as many wide open areas that make it easier for them to slaughter survivors in.

Variety is good. Maps should be generally balanced for both sides, yes (in my opinion they already are, but I digress) but it's not the end of the world if some maps are better for certain people than others. Not every map needs to be a perfect 100 percent balance. If that were the case why would we have multiple maps at all? Why not just play on the same map over and over forever? Because we like variety, and in my opinion that variety needs to include challenge level.

I really hate so much new The Game map. That is reason :(

It's the pallets, right? All the killer mains hate the map because of the pallets. I'd be fine if they were reduced.

I love the map because of the aesthetic, the maze-like quality, the multiple floors, the loads and loads of random clutter (some of it's good, some of it's useless, you have to really look around). This is literally my favorite map in the game. I get killed on it more than I escape it but I still love it.

  • NO. I am so sick of seeing these topics. People who hate the indoor maps don't speak for everybody. I love them, and having diversity in map styles is a GOOD thing. I mean I complain about the stupid swamp maps and Dead Dog Saloon because I hate them but if I were actually asked to vote on their removal from the game I would say no because I recognize that there are others who enjoy them.

I especially hate the arguments that "killers aren't good on this map". I have yet to find a map that I can win every single time because killers are just SO hampered by it. Or "this map has too many pallets". Well, there are other maps that have less. Or "specific killers don't have as much fun on this map". Well, there are other maps that those same killers have loads of fun on.

Don't take this as a direct complaint against YOU but damn, do I tire of people saying "I don't like this style of map so stop making them". No. My opinion is just as valid as anyone else's is and frankly I think that, considering there are like 5 indoor maps to 30 outdoor ones, indoor maps hardly get enough attention as it is.

  • As much as I enjoy chuckling at some of the names that people come up with, I can't honestly think of a good reason why I need to see them.

EXCEPT if I want to befriend one of those users. I don't always think to do this during the game, so I often have to go back to watch my recordings or check Steam's list of recent players. I wouldn't be able to find anybody if they all had generic handles.

  • I still just wish that I could choose what I want. Having to spend tens of thousands of BP on crap that I don't want just because I need to follow the path to a good perk or useful item seems like such an arbitrary roadblock. If anything it's to the player's DISadvantage not to buy everything they can get, so I don't really see it as any kind of imbalance to the game if we were given a selection of things to purchase each match and got to simply choose them, close the level, and move on. That removes the need of playing matches to earn the BP necessary to work through threads of the web that contain items you don't want, thus making those matches not feel like a grind.

I mean, think about it. Some of these bloodwebs have literally like 30 items on them. If I only want, say, 7 of them, that's a good 90,000 I have to waste to get them.

Not that they're fast and easy, just boring. People just want them to be more interactive, like friday the 13th

When I'm on one by myself it's fairly boring, yeah. Some would say "up the skill checks!" but to me quick-time events are the bane of video gamedom, always have been. At least doing a gen with more than one person cuts the time a lot.

  • Pig, Doctor and Michael are fun. My favorite at the moment is Plague. I just get such a kick out of hurling puke thirty feet into the air and infecting everything I see. I'm such a child.

If no map offerings are used I get Autohaven or Macmillan about 85% of the time, corn about 10% and the rest random - I play most days and I can go several days without seeing some maps at all. I don't think I've had the hospital or Hawkins this week at all

The maps / realms I get the most: Coldwind, the swamps, Autohaven, Crotus Prenn asylum, MacMillan. Probably in that order.

The maps I see on rare occasions: Yamaoka, Midwich, Haddonfield, Dead Dawg Saloon, again probably in that order. Also, the majority of maps, just less frequently still.

The maps I rarely see (once per 3 hour session at most, if at all: The Game, Lery's mental hospital, Hawkins Lab. All my favorite maps, sadly enough.

I've never hacked either, it just makes sense. Texture files would never be on a server, they're way too big (they are, in fact, the main reason why games are so big nowadays; the actual code is made up of characters that each take up 1 byte of space).

It's up to you. I'm genuinely indifferent.

This is true, the reason why games have gone from 5 or 6 gigs to a hundred in the span of less than a decade is because of the incessant demand for the crispest, cleanest textures. 4K! Super high-res! Honestly as long as I can see the game and it doesn't look like crap I'd really rather it take up 3 percent of my hard drive rather than 30.

I'll not press the issue then, it's alright to be indifferent. I just recall that some things I said that night were taken out of context and also phrased poorly on my part which didn't leave some of you in the best of moods or with the best opinion of me. So if there had been lingering animosity or doubt I would be happy to discuss things with a cooler head. If it's not necessary though, then that's fine and I respect the decision. Just know that if anything bothers you from before, or in the future, I'll be happy to try to explain in a way that doesn't offend.

Second variation of the Backwater Swamp. The one with the double-story building as opposed to the one with the large steamboat.

And yet they're virtually identical. One has the tramp steamer, the other doesn't. Both look the same, both play the same, both suuuuuuuuuuuck.

Hard agree, and I don’t understand why there is. There’s what, like 35 maps now? Why not just make it completely random? I don’t understand why I have to get Yamaoka 4 times in a row, I just want to at least play on a different realm

I reiterate what I always do, what a wise user before me said: The REALMS should be randomized, not the maps. And preferably randomized in a way that each realm gets played before there's a repeat (my opinion, at least. I'd prefer to cycle through everything at least once before getting the same map three or four times a day). After the REALM is selected, THEN the maps, if the realm has more than one, is selected. This way we won't get Rotten Fields and Nasty Abbatoir and Cornfield of the Damned or whatever 500 times while at least 20 other matches aren't seen for the rest of the week. A realm that has five maps should NOT have five times the chance of appearing over realms that have only one.

Though, and I've said this before as well, I find it strange that Coldwind and muckswamp show up constantly whereas Badham hardly ever shows up at all.

  • LOL some of us really hate that map, don't we?

Let's compare the pros and cons:

    CONS:

    • It is profoundly ugly. Muck, muck, muck, and more muck. Black everywhere.
    • The design, while semi-unique (it's basically just an inverted Crotus Prenn asylum), is little more than a crater. You either hang out on the outer periphery waiting for a chance to go completely expose yourself, or you go completely expose yourself.
    • Only a couple of decent places to hide, lots of shabby and ugly places that you can just get a short loop around.
    • The map shows up WAY too often. There are 35 active maps in the vanilla game right now, why do I get this one five times as much as half the others?

    PROS:

    • None whatsoever

It can't work. Texture files are local. Hackers in GTA V can do things by tricking the game into enabling noclip, for example, which is a command that most games inherently have, but they can't upload textures onto a server and then force those textures onto you.

PS: I tend not to look at or remember usernames. I find that it helps me stay objective. If you hadn't mentioned all that, I literally would not have recognized/remembered you. Apology accepted.

Ah, I see. I've modded, but the good kind (again, Skyrim and the like). But I've never "hacked" and have no interest in doing so, so I wasn't sure how such things work.

Thank you for accepting my apology. It's actually bothered me for weeks. It was a heated subject and I should have phrased some of my thoughts and comments better. I may love debate, but I never mean to legitimately upset anyone.

It probably doesn't matter (and I can understand why it wouldn't) but should you ever like to start over and ask me to clarify some of the things I said, I'd be happy to oblige. If not that's cool too.

Awww damn, it sounded like it would be a cool game to play with some friends late at night and just scream with at 4 am sounds like fun lol

Not to promote myself but if you're interested I can send you one of my "deep dives" (several hours of me playing the game, commentary or not, your choice) if you'd like to see someone deeply familiar with the game having lots of fun with it. If not that's cool (can we even send private messages?).

I can understand preferring the multiplayer aspect, that's one of the things that makes DBD special. But Monstrum is a different beast, the sense of isolation and helplessness you feel when it's just you in a veritable maze with a killer who needs do nothing more than catch you for your game to end makes for a very tense experience. I like to call it single-player DBD. :)

The altered skins I doubt that they affect public games, but all kinds of Mod for example would be banned, or hack of ear cells, a simple skin change would be strange to perform and at the same time, expose one's account.

My understanding is that any file that is altered is automatically detected and flagged by Steam or whatever intermediary is connecting the player with the game. That's how it goes for the aforementioned GTA Online, for example. The files MUST match down to the dates and the bytes or the attempt to login will be rejected (or allowed and, subsequently banned). This is why pirates can't go online and play with legitimate purchasers of the game. People still get away with it somehow though.

How would you see them if they're not installed on your PC?

Not sure, I don't know how the framework is designed. I thought perhaps it would be like the map situation, wherein even if I don't have a certain killer I still get offered the map that they come with. I'm also going by past GTA V experience, where you'd see all manner of nonsense despite not having hacked your game to match that of the hacker's game.

    • As an aside, this may sound strange, but I appreciate that you've responded. I know that we got off to a very poor start and I've regretted that since it happened. I know that you're a well-regarded member of this community and I'm sure there's a good reason for that. I'd like to apologize for the insensitivity of some of the remarks I made when I was discussing the LGBQT subject with you. I think I was just having a bad day and put my foot in my mouth. You don't have to forgive me, but I do regret that I said things that made you and a couple of others doubt my sincerity and, for whatever it's worth, I apologize for offending you.
  • All I can tell you is that I've got the charm too and my games don't feel any different.

Well, to be completely fair I DID have a rash of pathetic cowards yesterday who just sat out the match and left us to die so they could hatch camp but I think that was just back luck. In fact I'm sure it is because they never ran across me to even know that I was wearing the charm.

That said, there HAS been an uptick of sleazy survivors the last few days or so. Maybe the holiday brought out the juvies? I wouldn't read too much into it yet. But by all means keep complaining, I know I will. People who just hide and contribute nothing don't belong in this game.

I wonder if it is bannable to change a skin in Dead by Daylight or otherwise free access. Without receiving a ban.

If so I'm just wondering why I haven't seen any foreign textures yet. To be honest I'm kind of glad that I haven't, I don't really need a bunch of Peter Griffins and meme of the month characters chasing me in this game.

That actually sounds like fun! It is multi-player right, like I can form up my own group and play with friends? Just wondering cus like I said, that fear factor just isn't there as a survivor in this game, especially in SWF. If anything the fear gets replaced with salt cus I'm still a baby survivor and have no perks except maybe one unlocked lol.

Monstrum is only a single-player game (which, to be honest, works in its favor because you are ALL alone. It's just you, with no one to help and no way to defend yourself, against a wandering monster that wants you dead. It works VERY well).

The sequel, however, due out any time, IS multiplayer. My understanding is that it will be the same asymmetrical style of DBD, though I don't know wen it will be released. They did the open beta about 8 months ago I think.

Ooooh see I like that because from the sounds of it, that game has one thing that I've sorta noticed in my short time here, that DBD is lacking. It's lacking the fear aspect. Every game I play I don't really get the sense that the killer is "feared" which kinda goes against the whole theme of this game where you are trying to survive and escape the clutches of this monster who wants nothing more than to just murder you. All of that flies out the window when the survivors know that they have numerous second chance perks, items that can blind and stun the killer, and have places in the map that they can endlessly run around in with no fear of being caught. I will say I the Friday the 13th game I never ever wanted to run in to Jason, even if I had my knife and could stab him and run away, I wanted nothing to do with him and would make sure that I was always sneaking or that if I saw him from a distance that I started booking it in to the woods in the opposite direction. Don't really get that same feeling here though.

I don't know, this might just be me, and I fully expect to rustle some jimmies with this statement, but I think the survivors in these types of games should always be at a disadvantage against the super powered killer/monster. Not saying that the killer should always win, not not at all. Hell that was never the case in Friday the 13th because while I felt like a force to be reckoned with in that game as Jason I still very much lost a lot of games lol. The survivors in those games straight up would outplay the hell out of me, despite me having the advantage with all my tracking and teleporting powers and what not and as a survivor in that game, outplaying Jason and surviving felt sooooo satisfying and well earned and I'd get that well deserved sigh of relief afterwards lol.

Anyway main point, I feel like this game when compared to other similar games lacks the fear aspect when playing survivor. Hell I've had so many games where as killer, the only one who was fearful of anything in those was me being scared of the survivors lol.

Oh man, do yourself a favor and check out Monstrum. Watch a couple of longplays, see what you think. Not to hijack, but briefly:

    • You are powerless. You have no defense. None. There is no fighting back.
    • You are faster than all the killers, but not by much for two of them (more on that shortly). This is to allow you to try to desperately break line of sight and find a place to hide. And in this game, hiding is literal: Under bunks, under tables, in cabinets and lockers.
    • Each match can be a minute to half an hour, depending on how well you do at finding the randomized items. Aside from flashlights and glow sticks there's not much more than throwables for distractions and the rare escape items (a submersible, a helicopter, and a life raft. Three to four items are needed to complete each).
    • When you start the game you have no idea which monster you're against. You must tread very carefully.
    • One monster can only be identified from a short distance by the loud stomps it makes when it walks. It is a massive creature called the Brute.
    • One monster can only be identified by the flickering effect it has on the lights, as it's a paranormal entity that floats around the dark halls nearly silently called "the Fiend".
    • The final monster is always in the vents, unseen, until it chooses whatever time it wants to pop out of one and try to startle and ambush you. This is the Hunter.
    • You hear the footsteps of the Brute and see the flickering of the lights in a circular radius meaning you don't know if the monster is in the next room, outside the door, above you, or below you.
    • There are always dead ends, and if you run down one when being chased, bye.
    • The brute is about rushing you hard and fast, bashing down doors to get you. Against the Brute, you RUN. The Fiend is about immediately finding a hiding spot when you see those lights flicker. The Hunter can just show up anytime, almost anywhere, but is thankfully slower.
    • When you're caught, it's very loud, in your face, and crunchy, lol.
    • EDIT: Oh, almost forgot! While the three monsters have dynamic AI, they are always within a certain distance of you. If you run from the bow to the stern for example - itself a good minute or two sprint - the monster will magnetically be drug along with you. It won't always be right by you, but it's designed to never be far from you. Not for long. It doesn't know exactly where you are unless it sees you and watches you duck into a hiding spot, but nah, there's no sitting and waiting for it to leave you alone. It's always near. The fear comes from knowing that you have to get out there in the maze and expose yourself, hoping that you have a good exit plan for when you're spotted. And you WILL be spotted. And boy, the noises they make when you're spotted, lol.

The game is really, REALLY well designed. Wonderful spooky atmosphere. While I'm now quite used to it it was the only game besides Amnesia in which, for a good few weeks, I felt legitimate unease at wanting to play. It was fun, but it was SO tense that I almost didn't want to put myself through the experience. Overlooked game, very high quality.

    Dracula's power: "BAT!" XD

I think it would be fun if he could use a spell to compel you to be pulled nearer to him, since seduction is one of Dracula's classic powers. He could also turn into a man-wolf (not the actual wolfman). If you're bitten by him you could become increasingly likely to hurt others who try to heal you, falling under the vampire's turn. This could perhaps be warded off with cross items found within the map.

Don't know how they'd handle daylight maps though.

    @miketheratguy That would be sick!

I grew up with Castlevania. Castlevania is my jam. I love the second and third games in particular, as well as SOTN, but many of them are at least "good". Yet, somehow, I have needlessly dragged my feet on the anime. I think it's because (A) I didn't think that Castlevania and anime would be a good fit, and (B) I was too afraid to believe that a Castlevania show would actually be good. My understanding is that I'm wholly wrong on both accounts.

I mean, the devs said they're fine with people altering the skins in the files. Modders in DBD choose not to do unfair stuff, like making objective (generators and totems) textures more visible or being unfair in general. Modding is fun tbh.

Oh modding is absolutely fun. I've made, and been in, some mods for Skyrim. It's incredibly addicting. It's nice to know also that modders respect the game and the devs enough to screw with the game's rules. For the most part.

I didn't know that BHVR was cool with people altering in-game textures, that's very nice of them. I wonder why I haven't seen more than just the altered Jason photo though? I would think that people would be altering the characters left and right.

You state these are not bannable offenses Camping, tunneling, and slugging. Yet state "Grief" offences then describe the offences that are not bannable??? If these cause grief during game play. If survivors disconnect due to camping, slugging, and tunneling: you contradict yourself. Obviously this caused the player grief and poor gaming experience. If not would they not have to stayed on. Then furthermore the game penalizes them for having a grief issue. Now tell me how grief is defined if not all right there as described???

Camping - causes grief due to poor gaming experience and us targeted by killer.

Tunneling : causes grief due to poor gaming experience due to being being targeted and repeatedly downed/hooked.

Slugging : causes poor gaming experience due to unsportsmanlike conduct. Refusing to hook the player and move on. Targeted for being upright in a moveable position and not on ground.

Yet these offences are bannable buy we at dbd choose to ignore them for whatever reasons.

I honestly wouldn't mind being slugged if the entire time I was down there was a running counter increasing my survival score. Say 25 or 50 points per second? Then there would at least be a buffer to soften the blow of just sitting there being deprived of playing the game. Increase that accumulating score for each survivor that is removed from the match. That way when you're the last person alive being slugged and sitting there for four minutes is getting you 100 points a second. That wold make being completely removed of your agency much more tolerable in my opinion.

  • I have a question about tunneling. I've seen it said that tunneling is not reportable / bannable unless it happens repeatedly, I think specifically across several matches. How often does one ever actually go against the same player across multiple matches in a single month, let alone a single day? The math is almost completely against it.

I don't have a dog in the fight, I generally don't feel tunneled in the vast majority of my games. I'm just wondering how the line is drawn regarding the frequency of perceived tunneling. It seems so subjective.

  • Let me see...

We have Grim Pantry, Rotten Fields, Rotten Fields, Rotten Fields, Rotten Fields, Grim Pantry, Grim Pantry, Crotus Prenn, Rotten Pantry, Rotten Fields, Rotten Fields, Rotten Fields, Rotten Fields, Rotten Fields, Crotus Prenn, Grim Pantry, Crotus Prenn, Crotus Prenn, Asarov, Rotten Fields, Asarov, Crotus Prenn, Crotus Prenn, Grim Pantry, Grim Pantry, Grim Pantry, Asarov, Asarov, Rotten Fields, Asarov, Rotten Fields, Rotten Fields, Rotten Fields, Rotten Fields, and I think Rotten Fields,

So, like, three dozen, I believe?

It's funny cus when you look at another similar game, Friday the 13th, they actually did it right imo. Where survivors tread the camp grounds carefully to find all the little things they need, by checking every little nook and cranny of the cabins while also running away from and also distracting the killer. I think doing something similar I'm DBD would be cool, where depending on the map you're on you have to find certain things like generator parts, gasoline, extra wires, and/or some fuses for the exit gate? Maybe change up the scavenger hunt for specific maps too, and make them more thematic to the map itself. I remembered seeing someone suggest something like on the Oni's map you have to find and light some candles that when lit would cleanse the air of evil spirit dark magics and open the way for the exit to appear for the survivors. Something like this could be fun to toy with actually.

Monstrum as well. I hype this game a lot (it's easily one of my favorite games of all time). If I may:

Monstrum is a game that came out the same year as DBD and is, in a way, the single-player version of it. You're on a cargo ship at night in the middle of the sea and every time you play a match the layout of the ship's rooms and hallways are randomized. The goal is to explore the ship and find escape items (which are also randomly placed, and it's a BIG play area) and combine them, loudly, and finally wait out the time it takes for the escape item to become ready to use. Meanwhile there is one of three randomized monsters roaming the ship and if it so much as makes line of sight of you, it will gun for you immediately. If it catches you, game over. Period.

Stealth and exploration is of prime importance in this game, you need to know when to hide, when to sneak, and when to make a break for it. But the thing is that there is no one reliable tactic because the foe and the placement of the items among the ever-changing maze is unpredictable. In this game it's not about finding an object and working on it, hoping not to expose yourself, it's about navigating a maze and trying to collect what you need until you've got enough to use one of the three escape methods. I have to admit that I prefer the "explore and find items" structure to "work on the static objects for a little while" structure, but this is just personal opinion. That said, I still very much enjoy the gameplay of DBD as it is.

  • No offense (seriously, nothing against you) but many people who play killer a lot seem to focus much of their attention on one thing: The generators. They're too fast, they're too easy, you only have to hold one button to do them (as opposed to the 17 buttons they have to use when chasing or slugging, etc).

Generators are fine. A couple go down fast, yes, but usually by the time the gens start to dwindle the killer starts to rapidly catch up. The less gens, the less the killer has to run around. The more strategically the survivors have to play. And don't forget that if they're not working together with perks a generator takes one person a good minute and a half to do one. That's a minute and a half for one fifth of match progress. That's a looooong time to go unseen.

I think the gens are fine. I don't think that survivors need to do a bunch of aerobics and obstacle course adventures and trust-building getaways and games of spin the bottle and all kinds of other crap, I see enough wins and losses on both sides to say that the matches are usually a toss-up that depends more on player skill than game foundation to determine a successful outcome.

    Just my two cents.

  • The Trapper's cool, I think he's an underrated killer. I've seen people use him very deviously, very intelligently, and very successfully.

But he's no Jason. Jason is literally a living, unkillable zombie (well, MAYBE. That's definitely a topic for another thread). A little deformed boy left to drown by hedonistic teenagers. He somehow grew to have the brute force of a bull and paranormal abilities that allow him to basically never die no matter the circumstances to the point that in a few hundred years he's going to be studied by space labs.

He's brutal. He doesn't even need his machete. He can crush your skull with his bare hands. He's fast. He's impervious to pain, drowning, anything you can throw at him. His only weakness is Final Girls, who somehow manage to inflict the blow that can take him down.

And Corey Feldman. But come on, Corey Feldman ruled us all in the 80s.

Some people would be happy, like how I was happy with a sans mii costume in smash

But I feel there might still be people who would want a special Jason character

I guess it's like how I feel about Lisa and Cybil as Cherly alts. They're entirely different characters (I mean ENTIRELY). I like them both, and for that reason I want to buy them when I have a spare $25 dollars to spend on two character models. But Jason is SO iconic, and would feel SO naked without his own dedicated kit, that he would just feel hollow as a skin to me.

No. Jason is waaaaay too big of a name to just be some skin for like Trapper or something. The guy is one of the OG slashers of the silver screen. Just off of the impact of the character and the series alone makes him deserving of his own spot as his own unique character.

Oh make no mistake, I completely agree. Friday 2 is up there among my favorite horror movies of all time. A couple of others in the series as well.

I'm just saying, IF a mere skin is all that we could get, period, due to rights and whatnot, would it be worth it? Again I say no.

Well actually, they figured out how to mod the live build of the game itself.

One of them actually managed to import Billy's old animations and remove the overheat glow in the live version of the game. Mod makes Billy WAY more enjoyable to play, I used it and it's amazing.

I just don't get it. I don't understand how people can alter the files of multiplayer games, take them online, and somehow not get detected. Whether it's different skins, animations, unfair hacks, etc., I don't understand how people get away with it. But I guess if it can happen in a 500 million game like GTA V, it can happen to any game.

Damn, very well played by the Twins. Also, you and your team did your best. That is what matters :)

Blood Warden is a perk that helped me countless times, especially because I started with Freddy (still is my main, btw). And there were many times it was used against me.

I remember all too well when I got caught off-guard by an Old Freddy with Blood Warden, during the Moonrise event, when I was trying to escape with me Lunar Vessel. I mean, I was literally playing against my main, so I thought I was going to be able to read him like a book and escape easily. Oh my friend, if only I knew...

It was a really competitive game. I never see the Twins so I was happy about that to begin with, and even though it was on...sigh...Rotten Fields for the 400th time this week it was still lots of fun. I don't care if I win or lose, it's the match itself and this was a really solid one. Back and forth with close calls but no deaths...until the ULTIMATE death, lol. Man, she must have been in her glory watching us all just plain expire. It really was a great play. GREAT play. We all won, hard. Until we lost, even harder. LOL

I tried to make some post-game chat but everyone either moved on or was on console and couldn't see. Bummer.

Do you use Blood Warden a lot? If I were confident in my ability to hook a survivor at my leisure that would be a really, really good killer perk.

Hell maybe just a Castlevania cross over lol lets go Trevor Belmont?! But for real he does Dracula well in the anime series!

Ah, Castlevania III. My baby. You will always be my baby. And why not? Since Konami decided that they don't need to make good games anymore they can always let DBD use that IP just like they did for Silent Hill.

In all honesty though I'd love Nosferatu, the vampyr. Imagine a map that's an ancient ship on the ocean and THAT freaky thing is creeping around. That would be SO cool.

I don't even like the streamer he faced against. I just don't think it's fair to say he "destroyed" anymore in the game.

I certainly don't like the mindset that console players are worse which was fairly prominent throughout the game on the stream as well. This would be a better topic if it was about the attitude and mindset of the streamer he went against instead of how he won the game.

Having not watched the stream (I never have and never will watch game streamers for the aforementioned reasons) I can't speak for any of that but yeah, that sounds like the kind of smug obnoxiousness I'm talking about. I'm 43 years old, I was playing Gangster Alley on my Atari 2600 in 1982 which is likely before most of these yahoos were even conceived. I don't need them telling me or anyone else that console players are some subhuman race just because...well I don't even know why, to be honest. I play exclusively on the PC and the Lite these days, yes, but I would never put down console players. There's no need for that kind of tribal crap. Just reinforces why I don't like these kinds of people.

That said, again, I didn't watch the stream so I can't vouch for the semantics or methodology of the "victory". I understand what you're saying though.

Yeah, BW is always a nice surprise. I miss the good ole' days when there was no EGC and I could actually use this perk on most trials.

Also, where is its flavour text in-game? Where is this quote?

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/TTRWGWN3B7PJ/image.png

Lol I was stunned, man. I'm only a couple thousand games in but in those couple thousand games I'd never seen that perk used, EVER. Not once. I'm still learning and since I'm not familiar with a lot of killers yet (haven't even unlocked Freddy, I'm waiting on some of these killers until I get better at the simpler ones) so Blood Warden is completely foreign to me. So here's how it went down, bullet point style:

    • Competitive game against the Twins of all characters. That's actually really cool. Also saw Jonathan for the first time, but not up close.
    • Game goes for a good ten minutes, lots of close calls and unhooks / heals, then we get the first exit gate open with all 4 still alive. Three of us are at one and could have won the match by 75 percent, but just then one of us goes down.
    • Like WWII heroes, we ain't havin' it. We all turn and rush to his rescue. But now Twinny is camping the slugged comrade. Everyone tries, no one's getting him. It's at this point that I run to the other exit gate, knowing that surely the other three will have gotten him by the time I get the door open. It's a brilliant plan. We'll all get medals.
    • They got him up! My exit gate is half open but they don't know that so the other three start running back to the other gate. Ah well, I'll continue anyway because now The Twins are chasing them.
    • Crap, she slugged someone again. The other two have given up and are now heading to the first gate. About 30 seconds left on the EGC.
    • My gate opens. It's blocked. Huh?
    • Incredible symphony of quadri-death
    • "What the hell just happened?!??!"
    • I check the wiki. "Blood Warden activates automatically when the first exit gate opens. Uh, okay, that didn't happen though.
    • I make thread.
    • I read the description again. "OHHHH. It activates. It just...well, DOESN'T activate. Not until the exit gate is opened AND someone is hooked, which is what happened when the rest of us were trying to get out. Lame. But great play by the Twins. Respect.

Jason is trapped behind a litigious legal and not coming any time soon. Thoughts and prayers

It's such a stupid mess too. It's crap that pretty much anything that's happened to the character for the last 20+ years, minus Freddy vs Jason (itself a decade in development hell) has gone to pot.

We have a chance to have THE game. I mean, THE game. Freddy, Jason, Leatherface, Michael Myers, Ash, Ghostface, and a whole slew of up and comers like the Demogorgon and more, plus several more already in the can and on the way. But one of the biggest and most important links in that chain is tied up behind legal nonsense. Sure, we also have Terrordrome, which is amazing for what it is, but Terrordrome ain't DBD.

  • Alright, I'll give it a go. Thank you again.

I'll flag the post in a couple of minutes just in case, for any reason, someone wants to add anything to it or whatnot before I do.

Before this gets closed, I would like to point out that this perk is missing its flavour text and that is sad.

It is? Really? I hadn't noticed.

For what it's worth, the short version: Never saw the escape gates close, ever, and was confounded. All 4 survivors died. Read the wiki, said that the perk automatically activates when an exit gate is opened. Max duration is 1 minute, but our gate was open a good while longer than that. It made no sense. Upon reading the wiki more closely I realized that while the perk activates upon EGC, it does not actually TAKE EFFECT until the killer has hooked someone. So, long story short, three of us could have survived when we opened the gate together but our altruism killed all four of us because we couldn't get the final survivor, who was being camped, and then after the killer hooked him that was it for all of us.

The perk's wording could be clearer, lol.

A dev build was accidentally released at some point.

Savvy modders have been able to crack that version and manipulate game files. (though it's not able to be played on live servers)

Screenshot is a reskin of Trapper using a some Jason model.

So technically Jason is in DBD in that screenshot, just not an official version of the game.

    Thank you.

This begs the question though: If Jason WERE available as just a skin, would people be happy with it? What I mean is, hypothetically, if someone did magically hack the game so that there was suddenly an optional Jason skin for the Trapper, would that be enough to feel that he IS in the game, or would he need new unique perks and moris to feel at all noteworthy?

Note: I'm not suggesting that anyone hack their game (how people do so and then go online without being detected and auto-banned for having modified files, I don't even know), I'm just wondering about the hypothetical. In fact, let's say that it's not even a hack situation, let's say BHVR can only get Jason's appearance and absolutely nothing else. He has to use whatever animations and abilities the skin is applied to. It's Jason in appearance only, is what I'm getting at. Would you guys be happy with that?

Just curious. I myself would not be.

  • I'm glad that more people are (rightfully) complaining about players who don't actively contribute to the match or, at best, ONLY do rescues and deliberately avoid touching gens. I had three or four hatch campers yesterday, two of which were in a row, none of whom did anything to help in the match. Literally nothing. Just wait and hide, let everyone else die, get the hatch win.

Four times in a two hour session, two of which followed one after the other. Let's just say that I'm not in the mood to see this ever again.

  • Interesting. From the front not so bad, but in profile the nose and lips are an entirely different shape. Different brows too. That's odd.

  • I honestly clicked this topic expecting the answer to be "turn off the game".

  • @The_Krapper said:

Solo que is trash and the people saying it's fine are probably the urban evading randoms that hide the whole match and don't touch a single gen or go anywhere near the heartbeat just waiting out hatch from the start

    Why the broad negative generalization?

  • @Sypherpathic said:

My understanding is that they can get the rights to the character but that doesn't give them the rights to an exact actor's face. Hence, they do their best to use the name and kind-of-sort-of make the character.

If that's what you've read or been told by more authoritative sources I won't dispute you other than to say that's strange, Nancy and Steve are absolutely spot-on.

While I do think that the Jonathan in the trailer looks pretty good this one in-game shot doesn't look all that great, but then seeing it compared with an actual photo of the actor actually makes it look better, in my opinion. I don't think it's that far off.

But it IS noticeably different. If the trailer and in-game models don't match then hopefully it will be something that can be fixed. I would really love a Nancy / Jonathan team in this game but won't be picking him up if he doesn't look closer than the game shot does.

The fact you have that playstyle is absolutly fine and you're skilled at it but you're helping your team regardless if they see it or not, you are playing and progressing the game, you are good, you are skilled. That helps prove my point that the average skill level of survivor is low wich is why people would or will in fact accuse you of doing nothing, because they don't understand what you are doing and how you are doing it. I absolutly agree with you, people who legitimetly do not help progress the game need to be punished somehow, you can't just avoid gameplay entirely and have a chance to escape. It's not fair to anyone.

Thank you. I sort of doubted myself when I got those first couple of comments that were along the lines of "oh hey thanks for hiding all match, Mike". I was like "I don't understand, isn't it GOOD to avoid the killer? I'm trying my best, I'm just being careful". I was new. Now I know to ignore crap like that.

I have never once "hidden" in this game. Not any more than maybe ten or twenty seconds when the killer was nearby and I knew that I could lay low and let him or her pass, that kind of thing. I'm almost always on the move, often running in fact, I just try to avoid the killers as much as I can. I don't aggro, I don't like chases and looping (partly because I'm not good at it, I need practice and it's difficult to get any against experienced killers, but hopefully upcoming bot matches will change that). I just try to be a little more reserved and careful. That's why I use almost all aura perks: I like to try to be aware of where my teammates are and what their status is, as well as the killer's when I can, so I know when it's best to run to help and when it's best to hang back and do a gen when someone else goes for the save.

Even now I still get some people here on this forum complaining that I'm not "playing the game right", and have been told things like "chasing is the most important thing in this game, it's what most people enjoy the most, so you should be doing that", etc. I disagreed and still do, I'm not going to change the way I play to suit anyone else. As long as I contribute - and I do - then that's what should matter. I'm already punished by getting the least amount of points most of the time (you only get really great points when you accomplish a lot of everything, including confrontations), I don't need to be scolded for "hiding" when, in fact, I can't stand the people who hide any more than they do.

Thanks for the encouragement, it's honestly appreciated.

a Barb skin would be awesome!

you could play with Barb and Nancy in one match, leave Barb to die on first hook and escape as Nancy and then ######### as Nancy in end-game chat about how Barb shouldn’t have died :)

LOL I have nothing to add, this post is gold.

  • Okay whoa, he definitely looks different here than in the trailer. And not for the better.

It will likely be worked out. That or it's just the angle and the shading, I don't know.
