How quickly we forget.
Before the last MMR test people were saying it was secretly on and the Devs are lying to us. Then they actualy turned it on and it was a noticeable change. Now we are back with conspiracy theories again.
"Conspiracy theories". Yeah right. Looks like the lizard people have gotten to another one.

For a couple of sessions now, over the last few days, I've noticed that I seem to be ranked as I should - I'm at ten at the moment and I'm getting a bunch of other green ranks left and right, roughly a digit or two away.
...Except for the one super high red rank that also seems to be in every match for some reason...

He's pretty balanced, must of his add-on's suck, and his power is kinda just a rehashed version of Plague and Pyramid Head in my opinion.
I think William Birkin, Jack Baker, or Karl Heisenberg would have been a better pick for an RE killer.
As a hardcore fan of RE7, I love Jack Baker but couldn't really see a place for him in this game. How would you design him?
-
He's alright. I feel bad saying this but I'm pretty indifferent.
Same with Jill and Leon. They have like one good perk each. I love that they're in the game and will be using them both, just with other perks. What I love most about the pack is the map, but I've already exhausted all the oxygen in my lungs defending it from people who hate the words "indoors", "big", or "mazelike".

LMAO, just like cornfield?
I've said it before and I'll say it again: With 5 damn maps there's NO reason that every Coldwind variant had to be switched to daytime. Having some in the day and some in the night would have added some nice differences. I do enjoy daytime Coldwind but yeah, I really do prefer the old one. I think most people do.
Speaking of which, can't they just have a day / night variant of each map? I mean it's essentially just a skybox and brightness level change. Anyway.
Maybe I'm dense but this Badham clip didn't look much different from what I'm already used to. Can someone educate me? And yes, the map doesn't need five variants. I'm not one to say that a map should be deleted (and I won't), but Badham seems like legitimate redundancy. They're all almost the exact same thing, I don't understand why we don't have, at most, one small one and one big one. But five? Is there that much of a difference between them?
-
Just a strategy, really. It can suck but it doesn't happen all that often (in my experience, anyway).
-
- Trapper: I miss vaulting.
- Wraith: Take these free hits, I don't mind playing the game injured or hooked.
- Hillbilly: RRRRAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!
- Nurse: Let's play hide and seek.
- Huntress: Ah, this will be a good back and forth.
- The Shape: Where the hell did you come from?
- Hag: Oh look, a trap. Oh boy, I'm down. Guess I should fix my crouch button. Yawn.
- Doctor: Get away from me!!!!
- Leatherface: You know, you're actually even uglier this close to my face.
- Freddy: Yeah, I guess I needed to lose some weight running the map a dozen times.
- The Pig: Boop me! Boop me!
- Clown: You're not even that good, how do you manage to beat us on Midwich of all places?
- Spirit: You're hot, why must you make me run so much?
- Legion: You annoying punk, stop tunneling me.
- Plague: I can't stop laughing at my barfing sounds.
- Ghostface: AGH HOLY #########!!!
- Demogorgon: You just annoy me. Go away.
- Oni: So I'm gonna hide in this locker for the next two weeks if that's fine by you.
- Deathslinger: You remind me of the guy from the "House" movies. OW, what the?
- Pyramid Head: Zig, zag, bye! Silent Hill 2 is one of the best games ever, don't chase me!
- The Blight: You're kind of overrated but you scare me too. I'll just be going THIS way.
- The Twins: Wait, do I hear freaky panting and screech-OHGOD
- The Trickster: I'm kind of tired, I'll play you if I'm still awake later.
-
I generally find "content creators", "e-celebs" and "professional Youtubers" to be obnoxious. They're often smug, seem to be under the impression that they're experts on a multitude of subjects, and are generally just people who play games and / or express opinions on things for a living. In other words they're nobodies who are somebody just because a lot of people happen to watch them.
I've also noticed that this community seems to absolutely WORSHIP them. I have never seen the names of so many online gamers I've never heard of thrown around with the frequency and fervency that I do here. I've also noticed that it seems to coincide with the shifting opinions of the day: "JoBloNinja69420 said that the Demogorgon is OP. Do you agree? Because he said it, so there's some real empirical credibility to back up his claim". Argument ensues, someone throws out the name of some other wannabe e-sports legend, the cycle continues.
Do I feel that they contribute to the divisiveness? Yes, I don't see how they couldn't. When so many people appear to place such fealty into the hands of other players, simply because they have a visual platform, it's going to create this false hierarchy of expertise and knowledge that perpetuates the "well he said this so it must be true" debates I see way too often.

"Weird ######### killing people is an important part of the horror genre".
That IS a good point, actually. I'm reminded of stuff like the Gingerdead Man and Poultrygeist. I wonder how others would feel about this. For me, while I enjoy that stuff from time to time in films, it would still be to the game's detriment, but again, it IS a theme that's firmly entrenched in horror, so I guess who am I to argue?
-
I don't have anything against furries, I know a couple. They seem to not quite understand the situation themselves, they just find themselves identifying with the animal and enjoying drawing the animal, (possibly) dressing up as the animal, I don't know. My impression is that the fascination with anthropomorphic animals is just a sort of outlet of the person's personality. That's how it's been explained to me by the few furries I know, anyway.
That said, I personally find it corny to see characters like Clown in a doofy animal costume, it throws off the immersion to me. Same with seeing Dwight dressed as a Christmas package. For anyone who says "X or Y doesn't fit DBD", I like to refer them to stuff like that. I don't find it appealing, but I guess some other people do and that's fine.
Being chased in this game by a killer who's dressed as a wolf or giant teddy bear or whatever would make the game less interesting to me, I would find it more silly and distracting than anything. But that's just me.
-
My favorite killers to face are Huntress, Plague, Pig, Nurse, Oni (I just plain like the guy) and Billy. Maybe Doctor as well. These are the killers that always make me feel as if the chances of winning are 50/50 depending on the map and the skill of all the players. The challenge level feels just right. When I get a match and can tell it's against one of them, I find myself thinking "cool, this is probably gonna be a fun match".
My least favorite are Wraith, Hag, Spirit, Ghostface, Leatherface, and Trickster (just because he is profoundly annoying to me). These characters feel the cheapest to me. When I get any of them I groan, roll my eyes, and just want to hurry up and get the chore of a match over with.
The rest are somewhere in between. I've had matches where I enjoyed playing against them, and matches where they just pissed me off.
-
I would prefer most of the maps to have a bit more contrast. With some exceptions (swamp, Autohaven) I think that there aren't a lot of true blacks, the maps have kind of a light haze of charcoal grey. Not a lot of truly dark areas.
Then again I'm also of the belief that many sweaty players just have their screen brightness jacked up to gain a cheap advantage anyway, so I'm not sure if making the maps darker would change anything.

But you do need to have hours of playing as or against a certain character to know their flaws, and strengths and how to use them to your advantage to an absolute perfection.
I don't disagree with that. I have no doubt that playing as Hag takes a good amount of skill and strategy, I just don't like that the end result is such a one-sided game.
-
There are a lot of killers that don't use totems, I don't really see loads of survivors stocking up on totem perks anytime soon. At the moment I think the balance is pretty fair.
-
This is the most important conversation I've ever seen.
-
Hopper and Barb both need to be in the game.
-
If survivors can use perks, I see no reason why killers shouldn't be able to as well. I understand that killers already have several natural advantages but mixing and matching perks allows all players to customize their favorite characters to their liking which is a big part of the game. I have yet to see a build on either side that's just completely insurmountable.
-
What I don't understand is that to DC one must confirm doing so through the menu. A crash bypasses that and just kills the game. Can they not implement some kind of feature that can tell when someone is actually intentionally leaving the game early as opposed to the game suddenly cutting out?
And yes, I know that a salty player can also just kill the game himself while avoiding the disconnect menu altogether, but I feel that if someone's gonna be so exasperated as to kill a game that's going to take five minutes to start back up and another five minutes to get into the first match, he's giving himself a DC punishment anyway.
-
I use PT frequently. It helps, but it doesn't make a dramatic difference to me. If I recall correctly only one instance of the perk is active at a time so it can't be stacked by multiple survivors using it. The only time it would seem really strong is if someone was running it and fixing a generator that also had three other people on it, which is going to go pretty fast anyway.

Does behavior even accept killer suggestions? Like if someone comes up with a killer concept not like hey use X thriller movie killer.
Doesn't work that way unfortunately. In order to get a pre-existing, established killer that someone else created, there are entire webs of legalities that have to be negotiated (which ultimately requires money, as well) for such a thing to happen.
As for taking original ideas, BHVR probably hears some ideas that they think are cool from time to time, but actually having a fan say "hey, will you make a character like this" and BHVR responding by agreeing and putting him in the game would be soliciting ideas from the audience, which would also involve all kinds of legal wrangling, ownership rights, etc.
I'm sure that they're open to suggestions, but you can count on those suggestions going no further than the "that's a cool suggestion" phase.

I can understand that. Personally I’m fine with the existence of haddonfield (prolly cuz I main wraith but whatever) only thing I would say is that in a game that has such a massive difference in how balanced maps are. Being able to choose a map through an offering shouldn’t be a thing
Yeah it's just a frustration I have. There are people who don't like the upcoming Resident Evil map, but I do - I've played it, I enjoyed it, I had no problem on it (the survivors all got killed just fine, killers aren't going to be helpless on it like a lot of killer mains are claiming) - so it's irritating to see people go from "here's what I personally don't like about it" to "get rid of it because I don't like it".
I mean, I JUST said this same thing to someone less than 24 hours ago in another thread. Someone didn't like a map (the RE one in fact) and said "please change it". I'm getting tired of pointing out that there are more than THIRTY maps in this game and that they shouldn't all have the same style or cater to what a specific group of people may happen to prefer. There are maps in this game that I hate, but I live with it because this game wasn't designed just for me. Other people like those maps. I can understand hashing out things like what makes a killer cheap or a survivor perk overpowered or whatever, but these calls of "I don't like that map" (which is almost always guaranteed to be Haddonfield or any of the indoor maps, all of which I and many others love) so get rid of it" are annoying.

Bot matches? Kill me.
EDIT: Wait do you mean local matches like F13 did or do you mean bots when people dc.
The PTB added two extra challenges to the tutorial: A match in which you play as Dwight against the Trapper on MacMillan, and a match in which the roles are reversed. Each is a full match, just as you'd play a match with real people, only every other character is controlled by the AI.
Honestly? It's not nearly as bad as you might think. The AI is pretty decent, especially for a first try. The pathfinding is good, characters didn't get stuck on objects and run in place, the survivors generally knew when to try to do gens and when to run, there was looping, pallet dropping and vaulting. At one point I was even downed by the Trapper, who left me slugged to go after other nearby survivors, and then when they scattered he came back and hooked me. Once he did I saw the auras of the other survivors ducking behind objects, sort of going back and forth between hiding spots, waiting for the opportunity to try to unhook me as the Trapper eventually moved away from the area.
As Trapper, the match took 8-10 minutes which is about what my average is. The survivors were persistent about trying to get gens but also, again, knew when to stay away from them. I'd hook, go after another survivor, and before I knew it the first one had been unhooked. Sometimes I'd walk around a wall and find a survivor trying to hide in the bushes, other times I caught them running in the distance and when they spotted me they turned around to dash in a different direction.
I don't want to oversell and say that it's perfect, and so far it's only these two configurations, but the said in the 5th anniversary announcement that it's something they're going to be working on. And honestly, so far it's definitely at a playable level.

Curiosity struck me today after yet another Killer Nerf thread: Does this community actually want Survovor gameplay to be essentially a guaranteed win with little or no difficulty? It seems like any Killer that can be a credible threat is widely-hated and the rest have to play like they are actually brain damaged or they, too are also hated.
So..is this true? Do we really, actually want the game to be hold shift + w to win? I ask because honestly it seems that way.
This is a broadly generalized and exaggerated assessment of many of the complaints that have been made about various killers.

Booping her nose isnt a real problemas its just memes, just like moonwalk Myers, giving hatch isnt working with killer as its just a way to say gg wp
Oh no, giving the hatch isn't. I've had several killers who were generous enough to give me the hatch and I've always respected their sportsmanlike behavior.
When I say that I hate killers working with survivors to the detriment of the other survivors (and the game itself) I mean things like a survivor running alongside a killer, using their combined perks to weed out and hook the other survivors, helping each other to gain points by combining their forces to screw the rest of the team. THAT sucks. That is, to me, the lowest form of toxicity in a game with this kind of design. To intentionally circumvent the entire purpose of this game at the expense of the other players' trust, time and enjoyment is a selfish, juvenile thing to do.
That said, if it's understood between all parties in a match that ALL players will work together to help each other gain points, that's a different story (hence this thread). Again, I understand that it's more or less frowned upon because it too is exploiting the game, the only difference being that it's to everyone's advantage and not just a portion of the players working in collusion to sabotage the game for the others.
So I mean yeah, other than playing as Pig and requesting boops I'm not aware of any way to let the other players know that I'm just here to chill and have fun and won't sweat them. I wish that there were.

Well said.
Exactly what i thought. 😞
Thank you, I appreciate that.
I have nothing personal against the OP. I really don't. Nor do I have anything personal against anyone else who's said that they hate the new map and want it changed, deleted, etc. I accept that not everyone likes the same things, and that's okay.
But that's just it. Not everyone likes the same things, and that's okay. It has to go both ways. At the moment this game is, unarguably and overwhelmingly, dominated by more less "open" outdoor maps. That's fine. I enjoy most of them. But I also happen to enjoy the tighter, more mazelike maps. I LOVE Lery's. I LOVE Hawkins Lab. I LOVE The Game (that one is actually my favorite map). I love them for the aesthetic, the combination of physical layout and size, and the fact that getting one of these maps is, for me, a refresher. A palate cleanser after getting so many other maps that, whether I enjoy them or not, are largely similar aside from color scheme and object appearance.
There's room for every kind of map layout in this game, just as there's room for every kind of survivor, killer, playstyle, etc. It's not a game for one type of audience. It's a game for players of all types, all flavors and interests and preferences. That's WHY there are map offerings. That's WHY there are three dozen maps (making Racoon City PD something like 2.7 percent of them).
As for the map itself, I did initially understand what appears to be the main concern which is "too big, too mazelike". All I can tell anyone is that I've played it multiple times, and there wasn't a problem. The killer (Nemesis each time, admittedly) won each game, suggesting that killers aren't going to have the problem of "never being able to find / run into survivors" as some have claimed. Meanwhile, for me, the survivor, the matches lasted my average of about ten minutes. Sometimes I spent more time unhooking and healing, sometimes I spent more time exploring the map, sometimes I spent more time trying to get gens done. My point is that at no time did I feel "UH OH, SCORCHED EARTH, RED ALARM, THIS MAP IS BROKEN AND WILL DESTROY THE GAME". I mean good lord, it's just a large map that happens to be indoors. We've never gotten one before. It's really not that big of a deal.
And, ultimately, my point remains - if it IS a big deal, then that suggests to me that the people complaining the hardest simply want the entire game to revolve around them, for every map to be to their benefit or particular preferences, and not only is that unrealistic, it's unfair. There's needs to be something for everyone. I get that a lot of people don't like indoor maps for whatever reason. There are a lot of others who do. I am among them. I don't want anyone trying to take this map from me just as I won't ever be trying to take any of their outdoor maps from them.

Well actually, he can only see auras with that one add-on, and I think we can all agree that add-on is busted af. Same with silent bell, which requires an ultra rare add-on, however it is also busted. I think base-kit Wraith is balanced, but those add-ons need to be looked at.
If he's eating your ass you gotta make sure you aren't in a dead zone.
And erm... Billy, Blight, Spirit, and Oni all move way faster than Wraith, even with both of his top Windstorm add-ons.
Here are all of their movement speeds from using their powers in their base-kit. Wraith's maximum speed is listed below.
Wraith - 150%, 165% maximized with Windstorm add-ons
Billy and Blight - 230%
Spirit - 176%
Oni - 195.5%
Billy and Blight - 230%
Spirit - 176%
Oni - 195.5%
Unless I'm mistaken (I've never played as Spirt and only did Blight once for a ritual, so if I'm wrong feel free to correct me) those speeds are achieved during special circumstances; limited power bursts. They can't freely and easily just roam all over the entire map the whole match at those speeds.

He's almost completely invisible, moves almost completely silently, can travel faster than anyone else in the game, is able to see the auras of his targets, can uncloak and enter his attack state without making a sound, and if he's within a few feet of his target when he uncloaks - which all of these abilities make highly likely - he can negate any ground that they gain by rushing forward immediately after uncloaking.
What else is required to be considered overpowered?

@Moundshroud said:
I've already stated in another thread that I don't see that much "practical application" difference between having to fight against the new Wraith and Spirit. I have to use the same techniques against both. Spirit has a higher ceiling, but Wraith appears to be easier to learn for the Killer Player. So what you have is a high mobility Killer whose ability to down is merely a matter of time, and not that much of it. The main defense appears to be dropping the pallet early and hoping to have a LOT of them. :)
I'm not a "the sky is falling" sort of person. Anyone who has read my posts will know I'm not particularly alarmist and will almost always defer to the notion that it takes a decent bit of time to really get a good feel on whether a particular release is good/balanced yet. I don't feel that way this time. Why? Because I'm watching people ten Ranks worse, relatively new Players decimate Red/Purple squads of Survivors. The chief issue is that Wraith is so EASY to play. At least with Spirit you have to learn to "listen" and get the basics of your trick down. Wraith doesn't have this hurdle. He is a point and shoot Killer; that's it.
He only just got this buff and we are already seeing a shift. This means without any real time in grade or practice, Wraith is shooting to the front of the line in metrics. How is that going to look in a month or two when people have really gotten to practice with him? The issue for those fighting against the Wraith is that there isn't any more counter play to learn over time. Thus, the Wraith can continue to get better, while the Survivors hit the ceiling of what they can do to counter him. Do you see my point? Right now I'm going against the grain of a LOT of people, many of them time-honored veterans here. I hope I am wrong; I will be happy to be wrong. I just don't think I am in this case. The margin for error in balance with high mobility Killers is very small; I think they overshot the mark with Wraith.
Very well-verbalized. Completely agree.
I'm a relatively new player. When I went against the Wraith a month ago, it felt fair. Now it doesn't. When I caught the blur or heard the bell, I knew it was time to run and I hoped for the best. I was at least tipped off that "hey, he's close enough now that you better not make a mistake getting away". Now, I'm not even given the chance to make a mistake. If I notice the blur it's already too late and I'm taking the hit anyway.
That's even IF I happen to catch the blur, since he can just uncloak silently from behind whatever nearby object may be obscuring my view or any of the directions I may not happen to be looking at during the 1.5 seconds that it takes for him to go from cloaked to swinging. I guess it's either that or I spend the first half of the match running around downing every pallet and then spend the remainder of the match spinning the camera in circles looking for the blur while simultaneously trying to focus on not screwing up generator skillchecks. There's no balance, no counterplay. Just complete guesswork.
The most common complaint I see about Spirit is that she has little to no tell, that there's hardly any way to anticipate or counter her ability to suddenly appear right next to you and smack you. So hey, um..............
-
It's the free hit scenario that drives me up the wall.
They can change a killer if they want. But if they're going to create a situation in which the one that's the fastest and least visible can see auras, immediately and almost imperceptibly hone in on his target, become visible to attempt his attack in complete silence, AND increase the chance of him landing his attack, that's about when I raise my hand and say "I think it's reasonable to say that we've entered 'cheap' territory at this point".
-
I was straight-up warned ahead of time that this game has a very toxic community.

There are way more perks I'd like changed than not. I'm not saying big popular controversial ones like BBQ and DS and all that, I mean all kinds of lesser, quirky ones. I mean, spending X amount of time within the terror radius so you can throw a pebble? Has anyone, anywhere, ever in the history of the universe, EVER said "you know what, THAT'S the perk for me"? Has anyone ever seen anyone actually running this perk?
Lol that kind of thing. I admire the creativity of the developers but there are so many ridiculously specific or circumstantial perks in this game, so many of them all but useless against the big dozen or however many most people actually use. That's okay for individual characters who have their own flavors and all that but shouldn't there be way more generic, all-purpose ones too? Where's "Friction" which reduces survivor vault speed by 20 percent? Where's "Parkour" which increases survivor vault speed by the same amount? Where's "Observant" which increases the killer's terror radius by 10 percent?" Where's "Grease Trail" which allows the killer to see the auras of all survivors who were working on a generator as long as he's within 4 meters of it?
I'm just throwing out random ideas. My point is that perks in this game seem to fall into one of two categories: Broadly useful, or too narrow to be of much use at all. I'd love to see some new generic perks that round out the middle, perks that do simple things that would come in handy anytime, for any character, but which are not so OP that EVERYONE relies on the same ones all the time.

A good hag never camps. All I gotta say
A good Hag doesn't need to camp, she just needs to deploy her endless supply of nearly invisible teleportation devices all over the place and tap a button to go kill whomever makes the mistake of not crouch-walking the entire match.

This, completely.
It doesn't astonish me that so many people complain about Spirit, but few people seem even slightly bothered (or even go out of their way to defend) other killers that are just as cheap if not more so.
I'd rather face Spirit than Hag any day of the week.
