You'll get zero pity from survivor mains or the devs. Even the devs believe the game should be played in accordance to the survivor handbook.

There’s no pity to give, he’s saying “you’re saying I should ignore Jane.”

No, literally no one is saying ignore Jane... were simply stating once you down her the game is won, go pick up the first person you downed and by the time you hook them Janes DS wears off.

I picked her up to hook her further away, so I can then see the aura of the other two survivors on the ground with BBQ, it was strategic. What I didn't count on, was being punished for taking advantage of their mistakes by staying too close to the hook.

I understand your POV, however, I really have to disagree in seeing the logic of why someone in my position should be punished for capitalizing on THEIR mistakes.

So you're saying that I'm supposed to ignore Infectious Fright, let Jane happily get the unhook, pick up the other survivor all while I carry the one survivor to the hook. It's not like they made any mistakes here. Clearly it's not fair that I down them too quickly for making mistakes, god forbid I try to touch the Jane after hooking another survivor and downing two more.

I'm sorry for answering the question and giving a surefire and strategic way to completely avoid the situation, as I was asked to do. But user error is not a cause for a change.

If you were to show me a situation where an unhooked survivor is working on a generator and hops in a locker whenever the killer gets close, I'm right there with you. That's something you can't really avoid and is totally justified. This, however, could have been avoided very easily.

You asked what you did wrong, someone told you, and you decide to argue.

I agree that DS is abused and more than just anti tunnel in a lot of cases, but this particular case you’re asking about had an easy solve. Go back to pick the people up, you downed them near the hook they won’t be too far from there. Then hook the Jane last and bingo bango game over

  • @Alphaphalt said:

No idea why people are disagreeing. He's not at all wrong, except for stating that, at this SPECIFIC moment in time, killer queues are long when they're fast (but only at the moment).

Then you got people talking about Ruin because we gotta forcefeed our salt about that into every thread.

    What even is this.

People are disagreeing because their experience is different. I get instant survivor queues at red rank all morning and afternoon, then evening instant killer games at purple rank. I am in Eastern U.S. so people in different areas or not on PC may experience different times.

  • @Yamaoka said:

Everytime someone even says "rank" I immediately assume the person must be new or bad at the game especially when it comes to DBD.

    @Huff said:

It's ridiculous to me how people even use rank as an insult in this game. I could be rank 1 on both sides, not play for a while, and then derank to lower than 10 or 15 and still get people insulting me for being low rank after the game, whether they win or lose. At that point I just know it's not somebody worth dealing with, because they don't have the mental fortitude to come up with something other than that.

I agree! The only time I speak of rank is when using myself as an example, I have reached rank 1 at survivor and now am basically "locked there," because after reset it doesn't take much to get back from 5 to 4. And I find if you are even mildly productive as survivor you at least Black PIP.

Killer is a bit different, but I am far from a "great killer," and I have still reached red ranks although just barely into 3-4 ranges before.

So I use myself as an example that Red Rank does not mean good, and you're right low rank doesn't mean bad it can mean hasn't played in a while, has only played the other side recently because of queue times maybe, or has just been goofing around.

Imagine thinking the ruin nerf wasn't a killer nerf lmao

imagine thinking nerfs to the strongest loops in the game are actual survivor nerfs, when it is EASY to run a killer for 5 gens without the use of any tiles in the middle of the map

If it’s easy to run killers that long you’re either facing some random killer screwing around or playing low low ranks, not even great survivors can run a killer that long. Show us a cool video of you doing it though.

I'm on computer but my killer wait times or horrendous. I usually play survivor because I hate how long the killer wait times are. I use to play killer more but having to wait around for 5 to 10 minutes between matches just sucks.

Not to be mean but it must be a rank thing, hovering between purple and red I get instant games as killer but have to wait 5-10 minutes for survivor red rank. I would be thrilled if it met in the middle like 2-3 minute wait for either

People in this game have really odd ways of trying to put themselves above you.

I played a killer match a few nights ago where I killed 3 and 1 escaped. The one guy who escaped sent me this message.

"gg, but try not to camp and you might get more lol"

I don't think this guy was trying to be rude, but... "get more"? Get more what? Get more kills? He was the only one I didn't kill. I guess it's possible he might've been talking about getting more bloodpoints, but I had somewhere around 25,000.

I’ve got to remind myself not to get upset when people start arguing illogically like this, but I cave eventually.

Because self care available to everyone as soon as they start the game which is why this perk is used so often, while inner strength is locked behind paywall. If inner strength was available to everyone you'd see it much more, although not a lot of people would run it due to the fact that there is only 5 totems. And some people don't understand that if you're getting healed by someone instead of self care - it's multiple people not doing anything

You bring up another good point, self care doubles the time of the heal but it’s two people not doing anything for 16 seconds... compared to one person not doing anything for 32 seconds in a way that’s the same right?

Again for those catching up on the post I’m not saying SC is a great perk, but used correctly it isn’t a bad perk. Seeing someone run it doesn’t automatically make that person a bad noob

  • @Peanits said:

You've basically said it yourself, but each one has pros and cons.

    Self Care

    • You can do it wherever you want.
    • Unlimited uses.
    • Takes a long time (32 seconds base, more against perks like Thanataphobia or Sloppy Butcher, which are very common).

    Inner Strength

    • Takes 22 seconds total, only increased by Thrill of the Hunt. Ignores heal speed modifiers.
    • Efficient: You get rid of a totem AND heal at the same time.
    • Limited uses.
    • Can be hard to find a totem sometimes based on maps, whether your teammates are also cleansing totems.

I'd roll with Inner Strength, personally. With Sloppy alone, Self Care goes up to a 40 second heal (half a gen). Even if I do only get one or two heals with it, odds are someone's going to be there to heal me most of the time anyway and I won't need more than one or two self heals in a match.

I agree inner strength for me, but I have one more thought that you could maybe answer related to this @Peanits do you think this is a good example of why perks should list numbers?

Maybe not all survivors especially new ones know that healing someone else takes 16 and healing yourself takes 32? It’s not defined unless you go to another website.

  • @DisappointedUser said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/142967/inner-strength-vs-self-care-by-the-numbers-why-all-the-self-care-hate

Self Care is incredibly bad because of the Opportunity Cost.. You're not doing anything at all for that entire time.

Doing a gen injured is better.

    Saving someone is better.

    Healing someone else is better.

    Imagine this situation:

Someone is on the hook. Two are injured. And the 4th is on a gen.

Should you both Self Care? Or should one of you heal the other, so the healed person can make the save. Then the injured person finishes the gen with the 4th. And the 4th heals you. If you play like this, you'll be Rank 1. That's all it requires.

People lose because they go hide in the corner of the map self-caring. And they win because their team carried them hard.

Self Care is bad because the Opportunity Cost is really high.

All good points, I still think if used properly it can be useful as your fourth perk. But sooo many people that run it are also urban evading stealth gamers that don’t do gens ever, as a result self care gets that rap too.

I have a P3 wraith that I've played off and on over the last couple years. With P3 bloodwebs and BB&C, you can (barring an extremely unlucky run of bloodwebs) run the purple windstorm/purple 12 meter aura reading combo pretty much permanently.

I'm terrible overall, but with that combo, I can reasonably hold my own up to rank 10 (and still perform semi-respectably up until about rank 5). You can find survivors with no effort, and patrol structures and buildings without going in them or even having sound on. You don't need to mind-game jungle gyms, because eventually they lose your silhouette, and you can un-cloak in a gym spot where they can't immediately see your stain and go right to them. Immersion in maps like the Japanese ones are useless, since even a casual patrol reveals everyone hiding behind a rock or in the blackest shadows.

I never played any other killers, except maybe once or twice to try the new ones that looked interesting. Recently, I tried to do a sustained run of other (non-stealth) killers.

Kids, the wraith combo KILLS YOUR TRACKING AND MIND-GAMING SKILLS. With 32m terror radius killers, I had 0 or 1 kills every single game. A couple games, I only SAW a survivor once or twice before the gate opening phase- they'd hear my terror radius and just run away, and I'd never find them. One 360 was enough for me to lose a survivor completely.

Moral of the story? Don't do aura wraith. Or do nothing but him! I know which I'll choose.

Going from a Stealthy killer like Wraith or GF to another killer especially with 32 meter terror can be tough.

Its not specifically the addon though, it’s just the type of killer really.

It's something survivors should be doing, yes! I agree with you 100%.

But in reality they don't, I'm not a huge fan of Inner Strength, there's always a limit and if you're with a good team, how many times can you use it?

How many totems are there if you're paired with decent survivors?

    At best 2?

    1?

This was my main point really, it happens frequently that you spawn with another survivor so if you both spawn in a totem and they take it what do you do? I would just do the gen and find a totem later, but I see plenty of players even streamers go looking for a totem before doing anything else. Wasting time like that makes it basically as bad or worse than self care.

  • @Orionbash said:

Self-care requires you to heal out in the open wasting a lot of time and potentially exposing yourself to Nurse's Calling or a ######### tunneling killer.

Inner Strength on the other hand, if used correctly, puts you back in the game in a less vulnerable state right away without all the extra hassle. By used correctly I mean you start the match looking for a totem which, if you know where to find them, is quite easy. Then once you're downed you can hop in a nearby locker as most hooks have lockers nearby and you're ready to go in a much shorter time.

But isn’t your problem here the stupid use of Self care then, not the perk itself? On the rare occasion I use it I don’t leave myself open like that, in fact at a lot of loops you can sneak in 1-2 seconds of self care mid chase.

I could say the same about Inner strength for stupid use, I’ve unhooked people and instead of letting me heal them they run away, cleanse a totem, THEN climb in a locker

I believe Solo survivor is an authentic DBD experience, because it fits the lore. The entity has taken 4 complete strangers and tasked them to work together to survive. And I don't know about anyone else, but I can only talk to people next to me unless I have a phone. And we don't have phones in DBD.

The trouble is balancing the game around that. Too big of a change, and SWF is worse than Solo, and too little makes it the same broken system. And while 2 man SWF may seem like it's not as broken, it certainly can be.

The game needs to be balanced around ONE of those, and I think BHVR needs to decide which one soon, and announce it.

I say this to people all the time! They say COD has voice chat, well soldiers can have comms like that so it makes sense.

A survivor shouldn’t be able to yell to someone 50 meters away without the killer hearing it too

  • @tippy2k2 said:

The issue is there are two kinds of SWF groups

    1. The group of friends who want to play together
    2. The SWAT Team

Group 1 is great to play with. They're fun; they get to have a good time with their friends while I as the killer get to go through my normal Killer Duties and stab people

Group 2 is the problem. While this may be anecdotal evidence, I have found that the SWAT Team is usually not only damn impossible to beat since they are in constant communication with each other but they're always the biggest toxic ######### to play again. If there is a cheap tactic, they'll use it and if they get any chance at all to mock the killer, they will 1000% take it.

The biggest issue that Group 2 causes though is that these are the groups killers remember and these are the groups that make killers quit the game because they're not only frustrating to play from a game-play standpoint, they always seem to make sure to rub it in your face and make the experience as awful as humanly possible.

The problem is that I don't know how you could solve Group 2 without directly hurting Group 1. If Group 1 starts getting hammered and frustrated by nerfs, they're gonna quit and now you just lost four players from your player pool. If you just ignore Group 2 though, Killers are eventually just going to say "F*#$ this S$1* I'm out" and now no one has anyone to play against as your Killer pool Yeets out.

I do not envy the position that the DBD team is in here

I don't envy them either, for all of the balance talk ON BOTH SIDES, I challenge anyone to balance killer, solo survivor, SWF and 4-man SWF on comms. You can really only balance for one and that leaves the rest either underwhelming or OP

  • @MysticMusician said:

People seem to like to say SWF anytime they do poorly. I've been called SWF while solo queuing with others who also claim not to be queued together. Obviously the goal of the game is to escape, but there is a reason there is the altruism category as well, to help others. Even if you are not SWF your goal should be to try and help as many people as you can. The only time SWF is really annoying is when one of them is a much higher rank than the rest, in reds, and you don't play killer much so they try to use the experiences person to distract you for as long as possible who knows every single loop in the game.

Same, we got accused once of SWF because we made a late save and rotated taking hits to help that guy escape... nope, all solo players as far as I know but it was just solid Strategy from having hundred of hours.

As a killer I used to blame every loss on SWF though, it’s easier than accepting that you messed up or aren’t as good as you think.

Yeah, I enjoy these groups. It’s more fun to play against survivors who are goofing around and being altruistic than it is to play against immersed gen jockeys, IMO. You may be blinded a couple of times or get Head On’d but you’ll probably get at least a couple of kills and a ton of bloodpoints.

The only real toxicity is end game chat in my opinion. Someone clicking their flashlight, hitting me with Head On or DS, or teabagging doesn’t bother me as long as they don’t harass me in end game chat.

Wayyy more fun (for me anyway) than a squad of four that just pounds gens and grabs everyone else at the last minute. You’re right, everyone generally gets more points and it has the potential to be really fun. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but the chill friendly endgame chat was icing on the cake.

At this point if you’ve played and tried you have probably hit red rank, there’s nothing left to prove there just have some freaking fun.

You will see all totems on map only if you passed near all of them in your map range.

Even more, if someone cleanse one or more totems , they wont appear anymore in your map reading.

A map with killers belongings reading and a green stamp (wich makes your map tracks up to 20 meters away) is just amazing to cleanse totems over the map. But you have to move around so the map will track it. Its true in Rainbow Map 3 items come already tracked, but those can be anything, not just totems, so, may have or not one already readen by the beggining.

Okay so for pure ANTI-NOED the green map with the range addon and the killer belong addon is good... or the red map with double range addons I am assuming?

"one teammate crouched 4 meters from a hooked player until the killer frees literally across the map before making the save" isn't a bad strategy, tbh. the furthest the killer is, the less likely is he comes back to the hook. there is no need to rush unhooks.

Agreed no need to rush, but if you aren’t going to save right away why follow behind? If you’re going to wait 30 second to save you may as well stay on a gen... I really won’t complain what survivors do as king as they’re doing SOMETHING

If you answer, chase them to shack/ironworks/cow loop then that’s fine but any killer who does that shouldn’t complain the game is survivor sided. I don’t care how much they clicky clicky you don’t chase to strong loops.

Not only that, but the "normal 10 minute games" many people talk about are often a result of the bad survivor play OP described. The perception of normal game speed only exists because so many survivors are shockingly inefficient. It blows my mind that more solo survivors don't run Kindred. I run Kindred in solo queue and the games are often under 8 minutes because 1 person goes for a save while 2 people do gens. The math is not in the killer's favor there unless the survivors are complete spuds in chase.

I also think Legion is already fine WHEN you get a full Feral Frenzy mass team stabfest and doesn't necessarily need even more reward in that situation IMO, I think Legion's issues lie in other areas.

Still wouldn't be radically opposed to a buff like this (especially because 35 seconds of Feral Frenzy speed offers a lot of interesting new opportunities for creatively capitalising on your stabfest) but those two counterpoints seemed too obvious for me not to point out.

You should be punished for things your TEAM does, it’s a TEAM GAME. You get rewarded with safety if your teammate brings BT, your adrenaline pops even if your team does all 5 gens without you, etc.

Yes bad teammates can sink everyone, but an elite looper can carry a team too honestly, it’s a trade off. This would be like playing football and wanting to count all of the TD passes your QB throws, but his interceptions don’t affect the team.

Legions base power effect is fine, you easily injure multiple people and force people to mend before healing or leave them injured if they choose not to heal. Legion needs reductions to the sheer amount of penalties that their power has. A power that isn't lethal shouldn't have so many downsides.

    1. The base power cooldown is too long
    2. The power stun recovery is too long
    3. You get punished for missing one hit by being stunned for 4 seconds and losing you ENTIRE power, it feels horrible
    4. The base power duration is often too short to reach further targets
    5. Hitting a survivor with an M1 attack cuts your power in half, pointless, that's like Nurse having a blink charge taken away when landing a hit
    6. You can't see scratch marks (and blood, if I'm correct). which is horrible considering that messing up a power usage is mega costly in the long run.

These penalties would be just fine on the old legion and would have actually made them a little more fair to face, but changing Legions base power AND ADDING these negatives was just a big oof. Take away and reduce these penalties and I guarantee you Legion would not be OP, they just don't want survivors screaming about how annoying Legion is to face so they put on all these negatives to give survivors the illusion that Legion is a "fair" Killer. It's sad because Legion is a solid Killer, but the negatives to their power hold them back HARD.

Agreed, no need for them to go overboard but changing just 1-2 of these would be Ge for legion. A shorter stun when coming out of the power voluntarily for example, I get that it would make changing the frenzy and M1 easier, but huntress already has that.

Of course each side can make some mistakes, inexperienced killer may just chase survivors through infinite-like loops or long ass string of pallets but that's something killer can do thing about.

What does not feel fair is that even if killer is very good and he leaves bad chases and commits to others, survivors can always just finish the gens and end the game early forcing the killer to camp or lose the killer he got.

Also, some meta shakeup would be nice for survivors. I'm tired of seeing DS, BT, DH, Adrenaline/Unbreakable when survivors actually want to try.

I agree about the meta, someone had an idea of buffing/nerfing perks every three months like other games do for “seasons.” So you could still play DS during its “nerfed season,” but it would only last 15 seconds. Or while it’s buffed technician would prevent gen explosions 100%

  • You think it’s tough to catch survivors now, once loops were optimized they would gain more advantage.

Also people from both sides would DC even more because they would instantly know which aide the map favors

So let's ignore examples of games where survivors finish the game very quickly without any helpers like old toolboxes.

Just because most survivors play terrible it doesn't mean everything should be balanced for them.

So let’s ignore games where killers get steamrolled because they take way too long to down a single survivor and drop off chases for no good reason

There is any number of things they could have done. Made smarter decisions earlier in the game, used better perks, use an offering to get sent to a map they were strong on given the killer they were using.

All this whining from killers about how hard it is and how the Dev's dont care about them is tiresome. Some times you do your best and you just f#cking lose. Thats life get over it and ready up for the next match. For every killer on here whining there are ten or more new or low skill survivors get 4k'd on the regular and getting ######### on by deranked killers being brutally toxic sh#theads because they cant hang with legit red rank survivors.

I hate to break it to you, this games health and balance doesn't revolve entirely around your experience at red and purple ranks.

multiple good points, thanks for being level headed. I’ll focus on the last sentence, the game revolves very little about “high rank,” experience... this is a casual game and it needs to appeal to a casual player base. If people want a tournament ranking worthy game there are plenty of those

  • Technically we will know eventually. If he ever gets released it’s true, if the game ends without him it’s fake

Just fooling I know what you mean!

This goes both ways around. Killers can also mess up multiple times and still win. And a match can be lost for the Survivors if one of them makes a really stupid move.

But I know that is nothing people on this forum want to hear.

This. I had a teammate earlier get hit, then go down doing some weird body block attempt on the killer’s first hook. All of a sudden he had huge map pressure and we never recovered... because if one mistake our team was on the back foot all game
