I'm very sad that it's leaving. I'm bummed newer players won't have the chance to buy Demo, and I'm especially sad that one of my favourite maps in the whole game is being disabled.
I'm still hoping they'll repurpose the layout into a new map...
-
Personally, I wanna see some reworks, baby. In terms of buffs, though- I'd like Surge/Jolt to apply on all downs, and I'd like Coulrophobia + Overwhelming Presence to have an extra few seconds of lingering effect after the survivor leaves the terror radius.
-
I had an idea for an iri that'd make zombie attacks count as basic attacks, so they'd be able to benefit from Exposed.

Gonna have to agree with daily. Making dead hard not allow a survivor to do anything would make it pretty useless. I would prefer if dead hard was earned rather than just given to survivors for being injured.
"Not do anything" is a bit harsh, it'd just make them unable to vault/drop, and for a pretty brief time too. You could still use it for distance, you'd just have to time it properly.

I'm just being frank. It's observable. I see stuff like this from BHVR all the time.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/LA5HMC46LXQM/screenshot-20211031-172336.png
I've never even heard of half these people, but they get into the fog whisperers and different events because they're BHVR'S token LGBT people, meanwhile people like Tru3 aren't upstanding enough for them.
I think that's an astoundingly bad faith assertion. I've never heard of like 90% of the Fog Whisperers either, that doesn't mean they're being elevated as tokens. Maybe they're just good presenters, or popular in their own right, idk.
Trickster is clearly meant to appeal to a specific market, but that market is kpop fans, saying that he's "being pushed as" clearly LGBT because he's... what, kind of effeminate? is a really weird claim to make.

Dead Hard is admittedily really strong, but making it a dodge perk only would probably make it useless, at least against good killers. I would see no actual reason to use it over other exhaustion perks.
Not useless, but far more situational- that's why I don't think the cooldown should be that long. Ideally, you'd still be able to use it for distance, but only if you time it properly, not as a simple "press E to win the chase" situation.
-

Because DBD is losing its broad appeal, so the devs figured they could appeal to and milk the LGBT community for publicity and ratings. It doesn't say anywhere that Trickster is LGBT, but you can see that's what he's being pushed as.

If you don't play survivor much then that's not really indicative of anything. Killer MMR doesn't have any bearing on which survivors you see. They are all just skins that do the same thing with the same perks.
Hey, fair enough, man, just figured it was relevant.
Yun-Jin just being a skin matters more, though. Clearly they wouldn't pick Yun-Jin if they didn't like her, since there's no benefit to picking her over any other survivor mechanically.

That doesn't make him popular in the game. Game popularity is dictated by how much a character is utilized. I don't see many people here saying they see tons of Trickster.
I play pretty much at the lowest tier of survivor MMR, and not very often, but when I do I do see quite a lot of Trickster. At moderately decent Killer MMR, though, I see a ton of Yun-Jin, she seems really popular.
-
If Dead Hard were on the block for a nerf, which I'm on record as saying may not be the best course of action, I'd want to target the part of Dead Hard that actually poses a problem. In my opinion, Dead Hard timed to dodge a hit in chase is reasonable- it requires decent timing, it can be baited, and it sometimes really doesn't do all that much for the survivor unless they're in a relatively strong tile.
Dead Hard for distance, though, is trivially easy and almost always works out perfectly. What I'd propose is to give a brief window after using Dead Hard where you can no longer vault windows or drop/vault pallets, to encourage using it for dodging instead of distance and to require some measure of decent timing and judgement before you can use it to just get to another tile.
-
I'm still having a whale of a time. Killer is still much more fun than Survivor for me- it might be slightly easier for skilled players, but I've never been any good at it nor have I ever enjoyed it.
Killer's much more fun, imo.
-
What do you mean? Survivors only lose collision with the killer when they take a hit, outside of some specific power interactions like phasing Spirit and stalking Myers.
-
I initially wasn't going to respond here but I absolutely have to highlight one of these points because oh my god-- a chapter release being really buggy is not a "false promise", it's just a chapter release being really buggy, that is by far the most stretched I've ever seen the definition of 'false promise' be for this community, and I've seen some doozies.
The misunderstanding of the Legion trailer is more along the lines of what I expected, I understand how people got there even if it's extremely uncharitable to call it a false promise, but the Twins chapter release? Bro.

Agreed that the name fits his lore fine.
Additionally, people also complain that the name 'Trickster' doesn't match his ability, but conveniently ignore how the exact same thing applies to the Nurse (teleportation), Doctor (electric blasts), Clown (nausea gas grenades) and Legion (run fast and repeated stabs).
I'd argue that Doctor's fits his ability fine since his electric blasts are very specifically electroshock therapy, which is a medical procedure. The rest stand, though.

Kind of but it still doesn’t really translate well. Doing intricate knife tricks is a lot different than just throwing them at people
Fair criticism. I think it's generally okay, I'd rather interesting stories with powers that only kinda make sense to be associated with them than boring stories with very faithful powers.
Look at Wraith- his lore barely matches up with his in-game power, but both are just fine.

Thing is his knife throwing is mentioned in like 1 line of the lore where it says he was naturally talented a knife tricks. That’s it.
Maybe I'm misremembering, but I'm pretty sure that even as The Trickster his stage show included a lot of knife tricks and knife throwing? Plus, he used knives to carve up his victims, which is probably the more relevant part of his lore anyway for his power in-game.

Problem is he still lacks originality and his power doesn’t have too much to do with his lore
Well, it does have quite a bit to do with his lore- I think the reason people expected something else was more to do with the name, and I do fully agree that he should've been called something else.
Even just using his power's name for him would've been better. The Showstopper would evoke some kind of performance or act, and his knife-throwing flair would be reasonable to associate with that.

It's a shame because they hyped it really well with way more effort than usual and then the big reveal is diet huntress.
Surely Trickster, if he's anything, would be Diet Plague?
Either way, to be fair, they did buff him up after the release, he's in a better spot now.
-
To be fair, it was a semi-licensed one that they worked with real kpop professionals to get done, so they probably want to make that extra effort worth it.
Also, the lore was never the problem with that chapter release, so it's hardly a problem that they're doubling down on the lore segment.

I ran into one in the Game once, and I’ve had a couple that took some effort to target, but most totems are snuffable. Still annoying when it happens that they’re not though.
There was a really annoying one on Lery's, in the shower area. That was a rough one, glad they're taking steps to fix that.
-
I should make a version of that "don't make me tap the sign" meme template with "boons and hexes are not the same mechanic" on it for these such situations...
Regardless. I kinda think that fixing totem spawns would be a better fix for this problem? Old Undying was removed for a reason, and it seems like a bad move to bring it back as a band-aid fix for a larger issue.
-
Hard tossup between this one and Resident Evil, but I do think the Halloween one narrowly edges it out.
Then again... I'm a little biased since I care much more about Halloween than Resident Evil lmao
-
It's unambiguously better than basing it off the emblem system, and introducing it was a good idea. It still needs some tweaks, though- I'd probably suggest a further softening of MMR loss if you get good emblem score/bloodpoints gain, so you don't get punished fully for doing well and losing at the last second.
Outside of a few edge cases, this system is definitely a little better than what we had before, which was really bad.

You were straight up rude and disrespectful. End of. I didn't direct anything at you, but you chose to do so to me.
But sure. Its laughable that you think all of the benefits boons offer is not a significant switch in balance to the survivors. I'm experiencing it every match. So how about maybe listening to the experiences of a killer instead of choosing to be rude and nasty.
I tend to respond in kind, and you can hardly deny that you've had a rather derisive tone this whole time. Still, change starts somewhere and I'll scale back, I apologise.
I'm also experiencing it every match, and they are strong- but they're the kind of strength you change your approach to accommodate, not the kind of strength that breaks the game.

You're dodging the point.
I'm really not- the point is that Shadow Step makes an already busted tile worse to run. Big woop? The house of pain needs fixing regardless of any perks survivors use to run it.

Wow. Convincing arguement. So the counter is to use one of a selection of trash tier killers, who struggle in most matchups againt a good surv team. Or as an altetnative i need to "use my brain" against a perk that robs me of base game tracking. Amazing. Also, is it necessary that you come off as insulting. Do you think it makes you sound smarter?
My point is that if you struggle to track without scratch marks, there are a lot of tools in the game to aid with that- again, because removing scratch marks is a very reasonable challenge. It's strong, but it's not unbeatable, it really just feels like a lot of people want to be able to "counter" new things by not changing anything about the way they play the game.
I'm not trying to be insulting, and I apologise; that was a little too glib.

Try running the house of pain when it has an active shadowstep and you might reconsider
Why on earth would you choose to run the house of pain? That's a dropped chase right there, that structure utterly sucks.

@TMNoThumbs said:

So you are saying the counter play is to drop the chase. Wow, what was i thinking. I guess having to give up chase on an entire section of the map isn't THAT strong. Not like killers dont already have to do that on certain busted map tiles. Say, we should give survivors active camoflauge too. As sight is now the only way to track survivors, cant have that.
ONE counter play is to drop the chase. Another is to snuff the totem. It's also possible you've got a way of tracking survivors that isn't reliant on aura reading, like Doctor's shock or Legion's killer instinct, things of that nature.
Also, that doesn't mean you should drop the chase instantly whenever you realise Shadow Step is present. Only if you know the survivor you're chasing is going to make good use of it, or if they're leading you away from the rest of the objectives.
Basically, the counter play to Shadow Step is to use your brain.
-
Daaaamn, that looks amazing! Nicely done!

Don't call me buddy you patronising elitist. Like I said, I've gone from doing ok, to getting smashed every game. And I'm not alone. Nut sure, Bury your head in the sand.
And the issue is with Boons as a whole, obviously including COH.
Don't be sarcastic at me and I won't be passive aggressive to you, simple as that.
A new mechanic is always going to have a learning curve. You're always going to have to learn to play around something that gets added to the game, otherwise there's no point to adding it to the game at all.

Scratch marks are the only reliable way to track survivors around loops when you cant see or hear them. In a meta where iron will is common how are you supposed to track an injured surv in the boon totem area? It IS that strong. There is no real counter play.
Alright, let's address that. Let's assume that a survivor has Iron Will and they're inside the Shadow Step radius- the first question is, where are they? Plenty of totem spots don't really provide that much ability to use that, so we're also going to assume that it's somewhere reasonable like a jungle gym.
That's the one situation where you do want to break the totem in chase- or just leave and chase someone else, which is already a reasonable decision against someone using Iron Will anyway. Don't waste your time on survivors that'll take ages to down, regardless of Shadow Step.

You know the problem. I was being matched with survivors based on a time before they got handed this huge advantage. So maybe it is a "me thing" if this game is meant for the elite only like you clearly suggest.
The reality is that those same survivors I was being matched with now have this huge advantage. So I'm getting mullered, as a result of the game swinging hugely in their favour by *all* the benefits boons offer.
Buddy, being able to track without scratch marks is not "elite", it's a really basic skill to learn. Now, when Shadow Step is combined with other stealth perks, it does get nasty, but the likelihood of the whole team bringing a full stealth build is pretty low- and it means their perks aren't doing anything else, at least.
You should be more worried about Circle of Healing if you play a killer that doesn't have an instadown. Shadow Step is much easier to play around and a much more fair challenge.
-
@DangerScouse said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2607374#Comment_2607374
So we should just get rid of scratch marks then? If we don't need them? Sure. Not that strong.
Did I say that? Or did I say that removing scratch marks is a reasonable challenge for a perk to provide?
Some perks already did this, you know. Most people agree they're kinda bad (except buffed Lucky Break, which also has a very strong secondary effect) because it's a small benefit, typically with weird requirements.
-
@DangerScouse said:

So you think hiding scratchmarks isn't strong. I'd like a shot of whatever you are drinking!
I didn't say it wasn't strong, I said it wasn't that strong- which it isn't. There are killers with hidden scratch marks as part of their basekit, because it's the perfect option for making a chase a little harder without making it impossible to win.
Straight up, if you find yourself incapable of tracking a survivor just because there aren't any scratch marks (with exceptions for maps where that is genuinely difficult, like Lery's), that's a you problem.

Right, got it.
Doesn't really apply since that line was about Hexes and not Boons, but I see the association they're trying to draw even if it's not working.
-
Chalk it up to the difference between in-universe and in-game.
Easy answer would be that the entity blocks a completed gen during the trial, rather than at the end/because of perks, in-universe.
-
I've been considering pairing Bloodhound with an addon or maybe a second perk that inflicts Haemorrhage to counter Shadow Step, but honestly I don't have that much trouble following them anyway unless they're on an indoor map.
Still- I have no doubt that it genuinely does help, I may check it out anyway.
-
I care about it immensely, both gameplay and lore. There's a reason I'm here; if it really were a bad game I'd have jumped ages ago.
-
If you don't have Leatherface already, he's a fun and pretty decent killer who also has the benefit of having pretty decent teachables to slap on other killers as your collection increases.
I'd also pick up the Demogorgon until he's taken off the store- he's a fun killer and he's time-limited, so probably a wise investment if you think you might enjoy him.
-
The problem in this picture is pretty clearly that you spawned on a totem, rather than that you can re-bless a boon.
-
I respectfully disagree with that- knowing that Shadow Step is in the game and popular right now, you're basically agreeing to getting little value out of the aura-reading half of BBQ. You know that going in, so you know a lack of auras doesn't exactly mean very much, y'know?
There are still plenty of reasons to leave the hook, either from perks you want to make work (Make Your Choice, Devour Hope, etc) or because you want to go pressure gens anyway. Camping is a legit choice here- but it's not really being incentivised any more here.

Optimally is the key word here.
Have you played solo q in awhile?
Optimally is rarely associated with solo q gameplay.
A fair point, but "optimally" isn't exactly hard in NOED's case. Literally all you have to do is open the exit gates and leave as soon as you see NOED activate, unless you're the unlucky SOB who gets hit with it. I do empathise with that being unfun for the person who gets hit, so the only change I'd support is NOED announcing itself as soon as it activates, that seems fair.
Not to say that you should be too harshly criticised for not leaving the trial, but if you're choosing to potentially give the perk value by playing into it then I really don't think it's fair to start complaining that the perk is too strong.
-
General reduction in power of survivor items (since they make way too much of a difference right now), complete rework of the Nurse (so she doesn't have a stranglehold on the game's overall balance), and a massive suite of map reworks to deal with the problem maps for either side + adjust the ridiculous disparity in tile spawn RNG.
Killers shouldn't have to go against The Game's bottom half, but survivors shouldn't have to go against Shelter Woods or whatever map with zero pallets on one side of the map, the tile spawn RNG is probably the biggest problem in general.
-
Yes. It's moderately powerful IF survivors haven't done bones (not likely, in fairness) and IF they choose to risk giving it value by going for a save or lingering in the trial, you trade out a perk slot until the end game, and survivors can deactivate it after it's spawned if they choose to take that risk.
If survivors play optimally against it, then it's at most a single kill.
-
Deathslinger still has the same ability to down survivors, he just feels worse to play and reaching his top potential became a fair bit harder. Those things are problems, but they're not a "he's too weak now" problem.
-
I know this is cheating, but the answer is "mostly".
Something like Dead Hard is a totally reasonable thing to be in the game, and I think the focus should instead be on why adding some time to a chase is so damn punishing for the Killer. Action speeds, lack of objectives, strength of tiles... there are many things that could maybe be tweaked before Dead Hard is looked at.
That being said; DH to dodge a hit is, in my opinion, fine, and if I were to tweak it, I'd suggest a very brief cooldown after you use it where you can't vault or drop pallets- so DH for distance needs to be timed properly instead of being a brainless "press E to win" situation.
-
This is closest to how I feel- I think some minor tweaks could be made here or there, specifically to Circle of Healing, but overall it's a cool and relatively balanced new thing that I'm pleased to see in the game.
-
Joke's on you, I bring Franklin's anyway
-
I've maintained for a while that I'd love to see a "thumbs up" emote and that frantic arm-waving motion, the former obviously being done with a little more of a hushed and rushed vibe- not talking about the Fallout 76 thumbs up lmao
-
Agreed- the Halloween tome deserves some serious credit as well for the way it handles earning cosmetics quicker with their associated character, but still possible with other characters should you not want to play the associated character for whatever reason. It's not as good as the split-role challenges, but it's another thing to mention.
