Tru3 has pointed this out a few times. The game is balanced around 2 kills/2 escapes, yet its so quick to give you ENTITY DISPLEASED at red ranks for a number of hooks and 2 kills
I dont care about pips or ranks though. Ive been rank 1, got the achievement, dont feel the need to prove anything. If I go up i go up, if i go down i go down. You cna be matched with green ranks at red, and vice versa red ranks at green so what does any of it matter? I just play my rancor roulette build now and have fun rather than trying to go full meta and win
I'm hoping that after MMR launches properly we can just get rid of ranks and pips permanently. They've never made much sense.

I'm trying to keep up with the narrative...
So, Spirit w/o Stridor is busted now (at rank 15, at least, vs non-loadouts >_>;)?
Spirit has always been considered to have no real in chase counterplay by the people that picked her up day 1 (after ptb).
Very few people played her as most had made up their mind from her terrible PTB version, or they weren't playing with headphones and didn't understand her. As someone that picked her up at launch I realised her strength very quickly.
Then Billy's add ons got nerfed, and a significant portion of Billy players got the rude awakening that they weren't actually good at Billy and were just being carried by instasaw builds. Needless to say that after she became the new "easy win" killer I very quickly realised just how insanely boring she is to play against and dropped her for more fun killers.

Only 2 killers are actually viable.
Lets nerf one of them so we only have 1 viable killer
The swf squads really don’t like losing do they? Why even bother playing a game when there’s no risk of losing at all?
I know you're baiting but those 1% swfs barely exist nowadays, most left the game long ago. Nowadays they're about as common as a pro Nurse. Yes, we need more killers that can counter the top teams. But having a killer that basically has no counterplay is not the way to do it. Nurse, as strong as she is, does have counterplay. I don't see anyone complaining about Nurse.
The killer should be strong in the killer players hands, not the other way around.

Neato, thanks.

The pips in red ranks are kinda weird. We know the devs target 2 kills and a couple hooks in a well balanced match, yet both sides have to play quite well to pip in red ranks.
Killer almost requires 3 kills and a ton of hooks on each, tons of chases (Billy, Trapper, Micheal, Plague all get screwed by that emblem) and the worst of all, Gatekeeper, which is entirely reliant on the survivors choosing if they want to do gens or not.
Meanwhile for a survivor to do a couple gens, get an unhook and escape will just about safety pip. Sometimes if you choose to play stealthy and gen jockey whilst your team trade hooks you can DEPIP on escape. And the arguament of "just get chased/unhooked" can't really apply because you're basically told to potentially throw the game for it.

I swear to god, every self-congratulatory spite post I read on this forum ages me by one more year. Immortal superbeing that I am, I can feel my #########' bones starting to melt from being here too long.
Let me tell you something.
When you say to yourself "Oh, I can do this miserable unfun thing to the other side, because they deserve it and I can feel good about myself on top of it", you're infinitely worse than whatever dickhead survivor tbagged you at the exit gates, or the facecamping bubba smacking you on the hook at 5 gens. Infinitely worse.
I will gladly take a hundred of them over one of you.
There's nothing sadder or less fortunate for me to have to look at for more than a fraction of a second than someone who's managed to elevate their resentment of the other side, "them" to such a level that they've decided--
Not only are they all bad, not only are they all out to get me, I can take moral, righteous pleasure in doing bad things to them. I'm doing a good thing! I'm indulging in my base, petty spite and it's not even my fault, i'm the good guy!
There is nothing worse.
Good day.
Yup, its a neverending cycle of salt and toxicity. I got V& for a month and for that month, despite still being home due to Covid and on my PC a lot I was enjoying myself more. Turns out I was spending so much time on this forum getting pointlessly heated over stupid things that don't really matter. I stopped debating about the game and just played it.
Now when I see someone with 20 hours "killer is too hard" or "Ruin is too strong",etc I just ignore it. It's not worth getting involved in the debate.
There's a lack of impartiality on these forums. Every post about balance is "Us VS Them" from players with 500 hours in killer and 5 in survivor or vice versa.

@BeardedScrub said:
For this game to be "balanced" most killer mains are asking to be able to kill 4 survivors most matches...
Even if you get 4 kills HALF of your matches and 2 kills your other matches, that averages out to 3 kills per match. That means 3 out of every 4 survivors won't make it!!!
In what world is that "balanced"?
In solo q, I don't know if our squad makes it out alive even 10% of the time. And in a full squad we maybe make it out 20% of the time.
When you get a killer with certain perks and add-ons, like Freddy, Spirit, even the Hag with her traps, these killers can be virtually impossible to beat.
Then we have killer mains on here whining all day because they are getting t-bagged...
If you aren't getting 2 to 4 kills every match (meaning the game is balanced towards killer) then you absolutely suck.
Of course we should nerf DS, and if we keep the game in the state it's in, n I'm okay, but please, if you are going to nerf anything survivor, nerf the traps of the Hag, nerf Freddy or the Spirit.
Yes we have a problem with q times. That's the only reason why they cater so much to killers. They have to or the game won't survive so I'm okay with it. But killers: a successful match isn't 4k or bust, and again, if you aren't getting 2k or more in most matches, you suck, even my friend who's new to the game can play underpowered killers and get 2 kills each match
It's a problem with how you learn killer. The very early game is extremely killer sided, players are afraid to do gens and sneak around hoping their teammates will do the objective.
Mid game is where it is relatively balanced for both sides, experienced gameplay is where is shifts toward survivor a bit more, especially if swf is in play. Killers have to play well to get max hooks if against experienced survivors, and have to paly extremely well against a good team to get around 2-3 kills (this is how the game should be).
Killers get used to 4Ks in early-mid ranks and take is as the standard of how a match should play out. It's a problem with the gameplay progression.
12 hooks should absolutely be the exception if the matchmaking is even remotely balanced. Most games should end in a 2-3K.

I feel like there has been so many more pallets upstairs and lots of god pallets downstairs, as well as the silo window vault
The new Game actually does have a pretty insane number of either safe or outright unmindgameable pallets. I never liked that map for either side but its pretty unbearable as killer now.

Can someone explain to me why there are so many pallets on the game, rather, someone explain to me why demo just feels like a worse blight 😪, I could not do a single thing as demo when it came to wackass hit boxes and shredding, especially with the massive circular pallet loops on "The Game". And there's too many pallets and BW's in which you are forced to break
*rant over*
He doesn't know Pepelaugh.
In all seriousness there's I think less than half the amount of pallets there used to be. Some still have more than others, but if you're having problems there's perks to help you.

I guess because they nerfed her a few months ago. I mean, obviously she needs a Nerf and she will most likely get one in the future. I mean, if they nerf Billy, they will nerf Spirit as well.
But I would not expect anything anytime soon, the next Killers are Demo, Freddy and Huntress, so if anything, Spirit can only come after those three.
I don't recall any nerf recently. There was the sound bug that was promptly patched.
Honestly I just want these killers to take a bit more time and effort to learn.
Freddys skill ceiling is practically absent, you run to a loop and place a snare for a free hit. There's nothing to learn with him. Spirit has the same problem but not to the same degree. It takes a few games, maybe watching a few videos and learning survivor habits but after that you basically become a god of death. I don't want any killers "nerfed" into being unusable, that would suck and dilute the killer variety in high rank games even further. And no one wants that, unless they're insane.

######### is going on with red ranks.
I literally had 8 nurses in a row. 3 times on The Game which is an insanely good map for her, the rest was macmillan and autoheaven... My team couldn't juke at all and the nurses were good, I lost all my games.
BBQ, Ruin, Tinkerer, Pop, Sloppy, Corrupt, NOED, .... Fun gameplay
HOW can the devs keep such a strong killer in the game and let 90% of the other killers be really bad in red ranks?
It's really boring and makes me stop playing this game.
This is coming from a nurse main since her release, although I stopped playing her because she is just too easy to win. Every new nurse just has to watch a guide and spend 10 hours into her to become really good. Don't say she requires skill, her blinks are really easy to get used to and there's no baby nurses around at rank 1 anyway.
She has Rift challenges right now. There's always an increase in specific killers for Rifts.

Generator speeds aren't the problem. The problem is that most killers lack early game pressure. Survivors can split up early game, and work on multiple generators and spread out across the map working on gens with zero pressure on them. At which point, there's not much the killer can do. Killers have no idea where survivors spawned in, and can only really take an educated guess. Especially on a map like Red Forest. Gen speeds are fine. The lack of early game pressure available to killers is not.
This. What do all the top tier killers have in common?
Mobility. Anti loop is extremely useful, but can be band aided by chaser perks for most killers. Mobility is king. It's why I'm looking forward to the Wraith buff.

I just watched my friend on his Twitch play a match as Spirit and bullied those poor survivors with 4 gens left. He doesn’t even play killer at all, only plays survivor. All he had to do was listen and put his headphones to good use and it was inevitable that he would destroy them.
Seriously, this killer is in desperate need of an overhaul. It’s too easy to play with no counterplay for survivors. I’m sorry to say it but my love for Spirit has been driven away lately and I don’t feel like calling myself a Spirit main anymore. I’m not sure who I’ll main now but I think I might just play a variety for a bit and if I do play Spirit again, I’ll just run BBQ for bloodpoints and three atrocious perks to compensate for how brain dead this killer is.
P.S. Yui Kimura is my waifu now and it’s gonna stay that way.
I used to main her but stopped when I started playing survivor more and realised how easy she is to win with and hopelessly boring she is to VS.
If I desperately want to farm bloodpoints with offerings I sometimes play her with BBQ and BPS but thats all really. Tend to skip her when doing roster rotations.
Also fellow Yui bro welcome.

If non of the survivors are dead by the time there’s 3 gens left, you’ve pretty much lost the game.
Yeah, outside of them all being dead on hook, which happens to me sometimes as I try to spread them out as much as possible, you're in the loss phase of the match. There's still a chance for a turnaround but not if the survivors play smart.

why would you want killers to not use franklin's? when they could use that perkslot for even more game slow down or worse noed lol
This. It's like Lightborn.
The killer using Franklins/Lightborn, that offers no actual base gameplay advantage, is already a mini victory for the survivors.
-
I think so.
One of the major problems with this game is no clear win state. You can complete a few gens, get out and depip if you played too safe.
You can play extremely well but die to save teammates and still "win" due to pips.
Same with killer, you can play too well and get a brutal killer from a 4k.
I think by removing the pips in its entirey it'd actually be easier for people to decide what is and isnt a win.

They teach them to use all the most crutchy perks/items/addons possible, and also teach them that those things make them good at the game. They also teach them "anything killer does is boring, but you're a survivor so nothing you do can be boring".
They also teach them to DC on Slinger, Spirit, Freddy...basically any killer they refuse to adapt their playstyle to.
Not sure who you're watching but the top twitch streamers I see definitely don't encourage that. The biggest dbd content creator is Otz and he is the antithesis of what you just posted.

What you're saying is correct, but thats why im saying at the "Top Level," because at the top level, survivors know how to play against good killers, and loop certain tiles.
For the most part, (almost always) the killer gets rewarded for the survivor making a mistake. It almost all depends on the survivor making a mistake, but if the survivor is a good looper, and makes no mistakes, what is the killer gonna do?
I think the problem is that overall, there are very few things in dbd that take much mechanical skill or quick reactions, 90% of this game is learning the right play for the right situation. It doesn't take days upon days of grinding the same action like a combo in a fighting game or training FPS reaction. For a significant chunk of killers looping is unfortunately the right call in most situations.
@JimbusCrimbus said:
Survivor has never been skillful, really.
*Hold M1, hit skillcheck*
*Run in circles around pallet*
*Take hit*
*Greed with dead hard*
*Drop pallet*
*Move to next loop*
*Rinse and repeat*
*Complain if killer did anything to help them win*
Survivor in a nutshell.
This works for killer too
*patrol gens*
*find survivor*
*chase around loops/pallets*
*get down*
*hook them*
*repeat 7-12 times until game ends*
There's maybe 3 killers that break from this mould and they're the most boring killers in the game.
The game isn't as deep as you're making it out to be.

Entitlement and an unwillingness to find one's own way of playing. Like, people will watch certain fogwhisperers and take their word as The Only True Advice (tm). So they don't find their own style, but mimic what those people do, and then get upset when it doesn't work out because
- they lack the experience with player behaviour needed to pull things off
- the way of playing has become so predictable that people know how to circumvent it
- all of the above.
Just look how often you'd get accused of wallhacking when you run bloodhound as killer.
I must admit I don't think I've ever used Bloodhound in any incarnation. Might be time ot try it out.
I've been using a silly HYUUGE TR build with Doctor using Sloppy, Caulrophobia, distressing and M&A and calm add ons. It's a build that really shouldn't work but I've got a lot of wins from survivors just making stupid plays, but in the endgame they're mad at me. Its like they'd rather I just use the boring ol' reliable with Ruin/Undying.
-
I would argue that he's a solid mid tier. I don't know why some people think thats a bad thing. He's fun.
-
In my experience its from entitlement. "I bought good add ons/perks, I DESERVED the win" or "This player is worse than me, how could they win" is a shockingly prevalent mentality in this game. Sure I REALLY hate playing against certain survivor perks or killer, but I'm not gonna rage at them post game, that's pathetic.
Unless you use a Hawkins offering in which case you deserve death.

Survivor isn't becoming less skillful, survivor players are becoming more skilled, and thus more aware of the best and easiest ways to win.
This is the way I see it. Survivor has had by far the most nerfs in the history of this game. Heal speed nerf? Survivors adapted by prioritising gens over healing. Pallet nerf? They got better at looping, etc etc
People say survivor takes no skill which is funny because survivor has a higher skill ceiling in regards to movement and running tiles than 90% of the killer roster. You wanna tell me stand still and watch survivor Shape takes more skill? lol
-
I disagree. Way back when, survivors had double pallet jungle gyms, the BLATANTLY overpowered pallet vacuum, exhaustion tick down in chases, before exhaustion you could use all exhaustion perks, DS on first pick up (for everyone), instant blind flashlights that were game ruining, etc.
Even just recently they lowered linked tiles on certain maps with those worthless hills. The farm maps are still really bad for linked tiles, however.
Survivors a lot tougher than it used to be, provided the killer is good. A killer that knows how to play tiles and hide the red stain can be real tough to play against.
-
I haven't dodged lobbies much in recent memory. I don't really see the point. Outside of stalking profiles you can't actually tell if its a SWF now thanks to the game grouping up survivors before finding a killer.
I'd recommend just playing even if you think it might be tough, you can't improve unless you play vs good players.
-
I agree that there's too many counters to traps, especailly Trappers. I love playing him but he's the only killer where I go into matches 100% preparing myself for a loss.
No item should track traps, it should be perks only. If the survivor can counter my power in its entirety they should be forced to commit for the entire match as I am.

I personally strongly dislike playing as the Twins. From reading a description of their power, one would expect that you could do a mix of ALL of the following. Use Victor as a deployable Killer Instict detection thing and obstacle. Injure a Survivor with Victor then down the oblivious Survivor with Charlotte. Injure a Survivor with Victor then go for the KI proc next to them as Charlotte. Injure with Charlotte then down with Victor and go for the pick up with Victor standing guard. Injure with Charlotte, down with Victor, Victor camps the slug while Charlotte hunts other Survivors. Go on a massive slugging spree with Victor.
The only one of those options that is powerful enough, fast enough, and not way too clunky to function is anything involving Victor slugging people. Honestly its an absolute shame that they're power turned out like that. I thought I'd love them... but they really are only set up to slug.
They could have made a great killer that allowed quick mindgames at loops with switching between the two, instead they made them exclusively viable with camping based builds. Awful killer.

My second of third game ever with Piggy a team brought me to Haddenfield and curb-stomped my azzz. All gens done in like four minutes and both doors open while I got one hook and maybe five hits in. This was before EGC. When I couldn't find them at either gate I stroll down the street, and there they were, up on a front porch roof, just crouched and staring.
One messaged me (i'm on xbox) with some tips, all good ones looking back on them. But still it hurt like hell.
Glad to see there's still some nice players on Xbox. I had a lot of bad experiences on there before moving to PC. I have very bad memories of haddonfield and old DS also. The one where everyone had it on first pick up. Feels like forever ago.

Agreed. The tutorial is woefully inadequate, the grind brutal, and the matchmaking ridiculous. Takes a long time to learn the basics to even reach baby potato status, let alone competent.
The current matchmaking is even worse for new killers, who often get rolled badly their first several games and who can blame them if they do not return.
I actually remember my first ever killer game against what I later learned was a SWF. This was years back and I picked Billy on Mcmillan. I misread his power and thought you had to stop the chainsaw on a survivor (entirely my fault not the games) and essentially got looped and blinded (keep in mind this was old double pallets with pallet vacuum and instablinds) for about 30 minutes.
It was an awful experience and if I wasn't so invested in playing as Micheal I'd have probably gone back to F13.
-
New content that is actually fun to play. This is subjective but I had 2 friends try to get into DBD shortly after the SH chapter.
Both of them enjoyed playing it and learning it, until they hit red ranks the 2nd week in and exclusively began playing against Spirits and the like. One continued to play killer for a while and gave up on survivor but eventually dropped it, he preffered the survivor gameplay but killers like Slinger, Spirit and Pyramid Head put him off the game. He loved playing against Huntress, Billy and Shape but unfortunately they were too few for him to actively enjoy play sessions.
Kinda sucked as I'd been badgering them about the game for years at that point, I think if they'd started back during the Oni era they'd have loved it and been able to accept the kinda crappy new killers.
As a long time player I have to admit that the last 4-5 chapters (except Blight) have felt extremely dull and lacking in the "fun" department. But that could just be me getting burnt out after too much time playing. That said I will stand by saying I think Dead Dawg is one of the coolest maps ever added.
-
I used to think this could make for a cool optional "hardcore mode". Eg, no perks, items, offerings for either side. But then I realised gens would become insanely dull and chases would be over in 10 seconds.

I guess that's why in Hexy's tournament for example last year we saw the spirits running NOED, camping and struggling to get a few hooks every game. Perhaps those players that had practiced her religiously and had thousands and thousands of hours in the game just weren't good with her.
I'm sure you could have done much better.
Yes, lets talk about the competitive 8000 hour SWF teams that literally makeup less than 1% of red rank players. Awesome. Good arguament.
We are all aware that this games balance is a joke when those players play. But guess what. They are almost non existant. Please tell me when you last saw one of those teams in pubs. I havent for close to 2 years now.

It's interesting how many people want to say certain killers are OP and take no skill, yet so many people are unwilling to play the role of killer themselves. Funny how that doesn't happen.
If you don't enjoy killer then you don't enjoy killer. Simple as that. Difficulty has nothing to do with it. Several of the friends I used to SWF with just didn't enjoy the gameplay loop. I have a few friends who don't play killer anymore just because they find it boring.

IIRC they can still J Flick. His normal flick was changed, but the J Flick uses adjustable DPI settings from the mouse and timing to allow Oni (and Blight) to completely 180 before a post-charge-attack.
I can see how this works with Oni but this should be imposible on Blight thanks to his wide turn and lunge radius. I've never seen this.
-
@Canas said:
Why should Oni and Blight players be allowed to take impossible turns during their rush which they weren't intended to perform? These killers were balanced around having strictly limited movement options during their ability, that's called counterplay.
And yet 3rd party tools like mouse macros enable players to cheat the system by giving them the option to bypass this handicap entirely. Oni players probably have to be the worst offenders when it comes to this. Either patch these killers to be unable to exceed a certain turn degree or make these macros a bannable offense.
I'm confused. Are you talking about A/E to turn? Because all that does is make controller like turns possible on PC. Definitely not an oversight.
Oni can only turn 90% and Blights turn radius is THICC.
