    Doesn't solve the problem.

    ---

I played against a Blight earlier today running Compound Twenty-One and Adrenaline Vial with Deadlock, Dead Man's Switch, Pain Resonance & BBQ.

I was first chase, and it lasted a minute and a half.

I was tunneled off of first hook.

OTR helped me loop the killer for an additional 45 seconds.

    DS bought me 3 seconds.

Dead Hard bought me another 30 seconds.

I was tunneled off of second hook.

I didn't have DS anymore and DH doesn't work in Deep Wound.

I died 5 minutes into the game.

    3 Gens were done.

My team did gens the entire time I was in chase (they were very efficient).

I had every second-chance perk a survivor could ask for, and in my experience... Blight and I would have been considered evenly matched. We both made some good plays, we both made some mistakes, I'm pretty sure my chases are about the length BHVR would expect for an even match-up.

Aside from the fact that I'm tired of this boring gameplay loop game in and game out, it is clearly not balanced. This always ends in a 3/4k, because the killer can be carried by passive gen-regression/stalling perks, and the massive defecit survivors face with a 3v1. The "just do gens" argument is anecdotal at best, and should not be used as a counter-argument towards trying to make DBD more fun and engaging for all envolved.

P.S. If you want video evidence, you can watch back the trial from the killer's POV here:

    https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1544576706?filter=archives&sort=time

It was the first match of his stream, and it starts 21min into the broadcast. No hard feelings towards this gentleman in particular--my beef is with camping/tunneling in general.

I've got time to watch the video. The timestamp is about 21:30

I'm writing the comments along with my thoughts.

21:45 start of the first chase, a missed stealth opportunity there, unless attracting the killer was intentional.

22:58 first gen, so about 88 seconds from the start of the game (2 survivors maybe? I didn't check the lobby)

Long first chase (~90s). The survivor seems a bit too experienced for that killer. The endurance hit is puzzling (frame-perfect dead hard?)

The Flashlight save attempt make me think the Claudette has very little experience.

The Yui saving right next to the killer : huge mistake. I would be pissed at her if I was that Haddie.

(The click at 23:55 : I'd take that as a challenge request, what do you mean by it?)

23:58 second gen, no one healed, it's bound to hurt.

The second chase was long too, especially given the starting disadvantage.

    Nice DS.

(The killer comments make me think he isn't very experienced, no value judgment here, just a way to get an idea of the general level of the match)

Again an early save, this time by the Claudette. It may even been in the killer's radius. It's really asking for trouble.

Nice moves from the Haddie, nice blind too : well played.

26:08 "game over", no gen has popped for the last two minutes. It should have been enough to do 3 in parallel, two with some disturbance, one certainly.

This game should be (almost) over already IMHO. The killer was busy on the Haddie for the first five minutes.

    I didn't watch the rest.

I'm guessing you were the Haddie.

In my opinion, the two early saves were the biggest problem. If these two had been a bit more patient the killer would have been further away, maybe busy in a chase, and you could have been healed. The killer wasn't particularly nasty, he was just trying to chase the "easy" down. (Which is another hint he isn't too experienced : it's obvious to me the Claudette and Yui would go down way faster than you.)

The others weren't too efficient either.

I think that four of you would have won that one easily, alas you were grouped with at least two inexperienced players.

    edit: Jane -> Haddie. I though the survivor has the same ... advantageous bottom than Jane ^_^;;;

    I don't have a play-by-play, but I can say I played 12 matches with various killers. I didn't tunnel or camp and I ran 0 - 1 slowdown/regression perks each game:

    • All five gens were completed in every match except one
    • There were zero 4Ks, multiple 0Ks, an average hook count of 4.5, and an average kill rate of 1.25
    • Circle of Healing was present in half of the matches (though not when I was playing Plague or Leatherface, sadly)
    • There were zero disconnects and nobody threw the game by just giving up or sabotaging their team mates

All told: Pretty crummy time for the killer and pretty successful games for the survivor team!

I don't know for sure that I didn't just go up against non-stop SWF groups, but I don't think that was the case. So, Solo Q isn't quite as 'impossible to win with' as some folks seem to think.

And when survivors are asking themselves: why do killers do XYZ? Well, this is your answer.

What killer(s) did you use? If multiple, which ones would be the most successful and least successful ones?

I was testing split VPN/tunneling. I'm on the east coast of the US. I stream at 4pm EST. People arnt out of work and what not typically. The que times are brutal to start stream. While I can ramble about stuff for minutes. It's still tough. I'm a smaller streamer. So it can be tough without a lot of people to interact with at times. So I was testing it out. To try and see if ques are better to start out(will be trying today) Here's to hoping. People didn't seem anymore competitive though, no

Yes, obviously. Humans are all more or less the same everywhere and the EU and US populations are largely "identical".

After writing the previous reply, I thought that looking some streamers would easily show how try-hard players can be on both sides of the ocean.

Are they .... ? Because I VPN'D over to the EU servers last night. I hit one blink. Not even a down, and they peaced out. Just because I was nurse. This happened 2 games in a row.

No, I'm in EU and it's as diverse as everywhere else. (I've played in the US several times because of some fluke)

This kind of matches my thinking in general that regardless of the loadouts and the buffs in the patch ultimately if the survivors play well they’ll still probably win (0-1 kills) and if they mess up they’ll probably lose (3-4 kills).

    It seems like it, yes.

From the killer's point of view, the teams that have lost against me have all made giant blunders.

In one of tonight's matches, one team had 2 good players, one decent (or unlucky) one and one rage-quitter (just one tonight). It's a pity because they were doing well. Great jukes and good progress. I gave hatch, obviously, but being betrayed that way by a teammate is awful.

  • Tonight, my queues were about one minute long. Its quite acceptable.

I think that the shorter survivor queues may increase the number of players. (Waiting was a big hindrance for survivors.)

  • The killer cannot tunnel everyone at once.

Doing the gens may be a way to punish him? (aka "pressure")

  • Claudette and ...

    ... that's it, Claudette.

I know a lot of people are throwing, too.

Yeah, the guy clearly knew what he was doing. The team handled everything like pros.

It's not getting me down at all. I thought about 50% of good games on solo queue was pretty good.

There were "only" two throwers too.

If I recall, there was also only one killer who played in an annoying way (and none of the Bubbas). And I don't particularly mind tunneling and camping. The way I see it, our team didn't handle it properly.

my matches were all 3 slowdowns, gens stay at 3 or 4 forever

There were two or three slowdowns in that bunch (Thana, Overcharge, Call of Brine and even one ruin). The slowdown effect wasn't significant enough to mention it (we either won, either were killed by "our" own incompetence)

Depends on what platform they were playing if you and the killer were on steam then you should be able to get there steam id if they are on another platform then you won't be able to as you can't see the killers profile.

On the next game I could. I don't know why sometimes it doesn't work. (Only when I "need" it, it seems ^_^)

Do Bubba's pink add ons really magically make it so an incompetent killer slays? I might need to look into those... Ha ha ha... I never heard about them so I figured they were Freddy tier.

No, not at all. But I've got a few years in the game : I can see when a player, be it survivor or killer, isn't very good. Inexperienced if you will.

I thought the addons were notable because it's kind of a waste on someone who clearly couldn't use them properly. It was also more an indication of the team being bad enough to die against a new killer. In a nutshell I was playing both with and against beginners.

Assuming that all players are as good as you is the exact reason why devs are scared to change killers like Nurse..

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3090893#Comment_3090893

Twelve hooks common? Are you playing against bots?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3090920#Comment_3090920

You don't like taking something and not giving something in return? So if a character is overpowered and you would be a developer, you would nerf it and then buff it somewhere else, keeping it overpowered?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3090928#Comment_3090928

Yeah but you are not the majority, so even if you strictly every single game aim for 12 hooks, that doesn't mean "everyone" does that..

The only way this question makes sense is if 12 hooks are a extremely rare in your games.

Maybe it'll come. I've past the 10k sacrifices threshold a couple of months ago, if it helps.

  • Sounds nice but "status effects timers" needs to be defined precisely.

  • Apparently the plethora of other threads wasn't enough.

    Neither were the detailed explanations.

So this time I'll make it simple. This is from the stream in January 2022.

    image.png

This was before the devs said killer rates were lower than they wanted.

    TL/RD: "gitgut"

There is a lot of documentation available to achieve this, both texts and videos.

  • Oh, a Nurse thread. It has been such a long time since one of these was debunked ...

  • @Dead_Harder said:

Whats going on is Valve thought killers were too weak and buffed them. After people stop throwing they will get some number and adjust those changes accordingly.

For what its worth, a solo survivors worst enemy is other solo survivors that just dc on first down or suicide on hook. Nothing the killer can do even comes close to that level of effectiveness and since the update, those kinds of players have been rampant. Like every 3/4 games. The other 1/4 games that survivors actually try to win are very enjoyable.

    Valve ... ;)

Had a killer who was going for my unhooker choose to tunnel me instead because they thought I was trying to body block. Unfortunately, we were in a hallway and I couldn't avoid unintentional bodyblocking lmao. Makes me feel like they should just remove collision while you have endurance.

Or maybe he really did want to tunnel you (in a hallway ...).

Imagine removing collisions. Now imagine how it could be abused. ^_^

Replaying the recording would indeed be a big task, but that's not really what's needed here.

As an example, a basic viewer internal tool could be made to represent the content of the record. As for the basic checks (speed, ...), they don't even need to be displayed.

I dont mean the add ons.

You can attack straight out of a blink now.

Its much easier to chain blinks because the blink bug is gone.

Its way more intuitive to play her now. Its like they sent her to a workshop and the workshop said screw it we cant fix your old junk, here is a brand new and upgraded version, enjoy it.

When survivors are properly matched, matches are pretty fair.

It's when the MMR craps out it becomes an issue.

I've noticed more groups (not specifically SWFs) who were able to do very good anti-Nurse jukes. Maybe if there are more Nurses at the moment, they got some experience and are becoming better at versing her.

  • @LittleBigSunset said:

Hopefully the DS stun time is reverted soon. Still scratching my head as to why it got nerfed so hard and why the devs thought it would be good for the game.

Even if I agree the stun reduction wasn't a good idea, it has been suggested DS should be used smartly. e.g. choosing a spot to get downed. A bit like getting downed next or under a pallet to get a save or at least make the killer wary he'll get stunned.

  • @Dead_Harder said:

    Nurse has never been easier.

    No dh

    Hype with alf

I have to agree she is easier to use now.

If the speed boost was removed from range, she would become way harder for many.

I wonder if it was a bunch of Nurse main asking for it. Would it have some effect?

    edit:

I think I know why that boost exists. It's possible that the way they've fixed her, they simply cannot do it another way.

Which is exactly what I did every time of course.

I don't mind tunneling. I just try not to do it if it's not necessary. And what do they do when I try to go around for their (full health) rescuer? They get in the way, block a passage ...

Of course I'll put them down. I was almost expecting a DS but no.

Wrong. I won't speak for OP, but off the record is designed to keep you from being tunneled. If you want to use it offensively like the old BT body blocks, don't be surprised if you get tunneled or prioritized for the tactic. You have a right to play however you see fit, but if I suspect you're playing dirty I'm happy to return the favor.

Yup. I didn't keep tunneling them though : only when they did that move. Of course, after the next round of hooks, they were dead.

    @Laluzi said:

I always find it kind of situational. Like, if the killer is about to get their second hook at 2 gens left and the first guy they hooked runs in for some good old-fashioned hook denial, they deserve what's coming to them. But when the situation gets desperate and the whole team is hook trading in a futile bid for a reset, you can't blame anyone for using everything at their disposal. Context matters.

But yeah, you can't get surprised when you run in front of the killer to tank a hit and the killer decides to commit. You very literally asked for it.

Agreed. There are obviously times where it's a better choice. It wasn't ever the case here. What they did was always detrimental to their team.

When is it not an option? If the Killer is there, either wait for them to leave or just do gens. If you use Kindred you don't even need to go check

All appropriate moves against a camper, but it wasn't the case anyway. They did heal under the hook though. Another bad idea when the killer has high mobility.

80% was not an exaggeration. After getting a but load of nurses yesterday I decided to see how many out of around 20 games I would get. 18 out of 23 were nurses, which is 78. 26%. I rounded it up to 80

How? Were they good or bad?

I saw a couple of Nurses, total. One beginner and one a bit more decent.

I wish the speed boost feature of the range addons was removed.

  • I had one DC tonight, just one. I was playing Blight (a killer I suck at, I'm training). The guy was the third one I found and it was his first down. He did is rage-quit right after his first hook. He basically "won" me the match.

Everybody else played normally and to the end. Including a poor team that the MMR sent to the slaughter against me as Nurse (Franklin-only build) in The Game. I didn't tunnel nor camp (duh) but they got blind-blink-hit and slugged many times (my way of giving them a chance to reset without looking so friendly they'll think I want to farm). Not a single DC : just four player trying to survive. They still managed to do two or three gens. True players these ones. They probably had less than 500 hours each.

  • I guess it depends how you perceive it. For me it's always a surprise and I find it hilarious.

ALL information about the person being reported should be pre-filled in, as well as your own - the mere fact that BHVR is too lazy to make this system more convenient for users and more accurate (no typos) is beyond the pale. They already have the information - why makes us leave the client to only have to return for info to paste/type in?

FFS it really isn't that difficult - let people upload or send in additional information after the ticket is generated.

And stop taking superfluous complaints about camping and tunneling as we already know you don't care and thus isn't an offense you should be taking in via complaints to begin with.

To be fair, camping and tunneling are explicitly listed as not-reportable offense.

  • @whereismykebab said:

There should be a watchdog that prevents it in the first place. If someone is moving beyond reasonable speed (accounting for lag) or has zero cooldown or has over 20 perks, a survivor instahealing or changing their own hook state or carry status etc., the game should just automatically detect that and ban the account. There should be no need to report that in the first place

Indeed, if they can do it server-side.

  • Spine Chill has 3 effects.

    • Notifies survivors if the killer is within 36 meters.
    • Increases a survivor's speed for repairing, sabotaging, healing, unhooking, cleansing, blessing, opening exit gates and unlocking if the killer has a direct line of sight to the survivor.
    • Gives an indication of the killer's terror radius intensity (fixed in 6.1.1)

  • I did that build once. One of the survivor thought I was cheating because how fast I was walking :)

I did one better though (IMHO):

"Lawnmower" build Nurse : Agitation, Iron Grasp, Mad Grit and BBQ for the "free" perk. With Spasmodic of course. It was before Starstruck existed though. Now no survivor would go straight to body-block a Nurse carrying a survivor anymore.

Well they're using cheats that someone obviously figured out, right?

But yeah. I know there are no legal ways for hackers to make money. There are lots of illegal ways tho (before the post memory hole, Mods. I'm not condoning it or saying it's a good thing- )

There are very legal ways. The most common one being bounties. A "hacker" (that terms covers so much nowadays) will spend time trying to find a vulnerability, under some strict context, and depending on what he finds will get a recompense ranging from $50 to $10000 (or more, this is just a common example)

The trick is that the bounty depends on the threat AND on the demonstration and documentation of said threat. Low hanging fruits will net you virtually nothing. Documenting critical flaws grants you a "jackpot". It's a pretty common occupation in countries where that is considered a lot of money (for the amount of work required). But the set of skill required by that occupation usually allows to get a good position in a more traditional setup with much better conditions.

    (moving on ...)

Yeah I've already encountered a flying Blight that (Prestige 100) slugged everyone on the map in 20 seconds.

Don't really know the appeal of that. If I were a hacker I'd be working on something lucrative, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

These aren't hackers. There are your typical cheating waste of carbon.

Side note : there isn't much money to be made as a "hacker" though, legally I mean.

You don't address the symptom as a medical doctor, you address the problem. If DCing/Suiciding on hook is increasing, then it's a sign of a problem. Addressing DCing/Suiciding on hook does nothing, because you're addressing the symptom.

It depends on the diagnostic. One part of the problem is players giving up. Survivors had an unfair advantage that was removed (stated). The game was too hard for killers (stated). The devs have attempted to fix both these issues. They'll monitor and tune the changes, as stated. Nobody sane is saying everything is perfect.

Instead of sabotaging matches, they should make a pause for a week or two, or try to play normally and learn something new. I don't blame them for giving up. I blame them for ruining it for the ones that didn't.

  • @Gindaen said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3091177#Comment_3091177

Isn't this really just logic chopping.

I mean I can say that suiciding-on-hook is a legal tactic, just the same as 1-step-camping.

You're kind of ignoring the big picture for all of these little meaningless nitpicks.

As a whole, you either incentivize players or you punish players. Incentivizing one side and punishing the other side is unfair and your player base knows it. The worse thing a game can be is unfair.

But that's the thing. I don't think the game is fundamentally unfair at the moment. I believe the only real issues are the MMR putting players with different levels together (same team or opposing player) and the people leaving instead of trying to do better.

Every solo game I've played since 6.1.0 was either ruined by these, either ranging from fine to fun. It also went progressively better as the rage-quitters are staying at the bottom of the MMR pit.

There may be adjustments tomorrow. We'll see what happens.

But why? Both are unwanted behaviors. Why would giving incentives to one side and punishing the other side make sense.

    I don't what to tell you. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system

    Listed in "not bannable offenses".

DC however, is bannable and doesn't even need to be reported.

I'm not going to waste time on arguing semantics, because we can go down that rabbit-hole all day long. And to be honest, that's just static anyway, unimportant. Either the developers believe in incentives to prevent bad behavior or they believe in punishments for bad behavior. You can't have one set of rules for one group and an entirely separate set of rules for another group.

Either Killers need incentives to not tunnel/camp-at-gen-5, which means that Survivors also need incentives to not DC/Suicide

    or

Killers needed punished for tunnel/camp-at-gen-5, which means Survivors also need punished for DCing/Suiciding.

I believe killers need incentive not to camp and tunnel, but DCs need to be punished. Let's chalk it up to opinion, I just wanted to precise the way I saw that picture.

hooked survivors stay still...which is why it became such an issue.

Oh, that wasn't part of the report. Ouch.

I played against multiple Clowns in the last two days who seemed way more effective than normal. I guess that's the explanation, lol.

I had a game where clowns were throwing antidotes at me. It made no sense. Then I've read about the first issue.

That issue was pretty difficult to trigger though. I've tried to confirm the bug myself but what survivor will stay to get the effect at the same time as the clown, on purpose?

The second issue though, with the stun, I didn't know about. It may be easier to get and the reason for the killswitch.

Camping ruins games too. Why is it that killers need compensation to not ruin a survivors experience but a survivor should be punished for ruining a killers experience.

Do I need to point out the killer is in the opposing team? A DC mostly ruins teammate's.

Besides, camping and tunneling, as annoying they can be, are valid tactics.

Do you think DC penalties mean a thing to a person not enjoying the game.

And also, isn't the whole killer-theory on camping to give killers an incentive not to camp, not to punish them. Doesn't that not also apply to DCs?

Maybe instead of punishing DCs, maybe incentives should be made to keep players from DCing.

I'd rather see them not ruin games for the ones who are playing and trying.
