  • No, it shouldn't.

The age of the ban is a factor to take into account. Some stop cheating after getting caught too.

The only real solution is for an efficient anti-cheat system (client AND server side)

That being said, I dodge lobbies with recent VAC bans or weird names (e.g. full digits).

  • I've got more than 200k shards (way more I think, I'm not about to start the game to find out)

I will not get this chapter with or without shards. I have no interest in it (even if I was currently playing).

  • That's a weird question.

Of course not, why would anyone be judged for playing with friends?

I would judge a play-style, maybe, and counter it however I can. But that has nothing to do with the relations between the members of the group.

  • The map change is good (at last something Trapper can use)

Everything else is probably to throw away. (All I see is more reason to tunnel, which is the main reason I'm not playing at the moment.)

  • A bit of both probably.

I used to have no problem juking a Nurse with double range or recharge. (I'm not saying it was a walk in the park either)

But the Nurse I've versed with the new perks are way more difficult for me. I still manage but it's hard. I'm guessing I need to get used to the change (whenever I'll come back to the game).

On the Nurse side I still don't use addons so no change there. (However I'm using perks now, since I can't use my only-Frankling anymore 😭)

Oh perfect! (well...not perfect but I'm glad you got it figured out)

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/357669/forum-feedback

They have a Forum Feedback section where I think you could bring this to their attention (though presumably Mandy will also wander in here at some point since I pinged them but this is where you would post these kinds of issues I believe)

I will put the summary of the issue at the top. I presume that, as you said, Mandy will notice it and then process it adequately.

  • @tippy2k2 Thank you. As said in the other thread your suggestion about something wrong with (or specific to) my account was the trigger to understand ;)

Is that grid blowing hot air? ^_^

That's why I wonder if there's something wrong with your account period. Basically something is stuck in the back end that you're not going to be able to do anything about and you'll need a mod to whack the server and see if it shakes it out

@Mandy Is this something that you might be able to help with?

I've got it. (The Teddy Bear principles always applies)

When you were speaking about "on your end" and something with my account, it occurred to me.

The bug is : if someone in your ignore list appears in the notifications, you get the notification but without seeing why.

So it's something to fix on the forum code.

    Ping Sent

Also my 1 went away without clicking on "Mark all read" so maybe it's something on your end? You could try to reach out to a Mod and see.

I'm using several computers. A couple of windows, a handful of Linuxes, one Android (yes, technically a Linux too) : all have the issue.

Funny thing: none of the entries has that black dot telling "not read" (or "new" ?).

The forum has been wonky AF the last...well...a while :D

I've managed to get rid of my 1 when I just hammer the hell out of the "Mark All Read" button in my notifications but it doesn't always work. I've received notifications for quotes that didn't happen (though I suppose it's not impossible they deleted my quote in their message for some reason) and I've had quotes that wouldn't go away until I did the "Mark All Read" thing a couple of times.

    But here is your @drsoontm

    @Sonzaishinai said:

Does clicking "mark all as read" get rid of it?

Also there are tiny black circles on the things you haven't clicked on, just hard to see cause it's black on black

    Also also @drsoontm

Nothing works (mark all as read clears it until I load a page).

Thank you both. Let me check the counter now.

edit: The counter keeps at 1.

Has one of you a thread he can be '@' in ? Maybe the limit of the bug is "1".

edit: I've tried to hammer it, I've tried for several days. In my "private" page it shows "1" next to "Notifications" but nothing on the list appears different.

  • I really enjoy the new Nurse music.

That being said, I'm not playing at the moment so it's still one less Nurse (mostly but not only), and survivor, out of the game.

  • You speak as if a majority of players only play one side of the game.

That would be bad because one needs to play both roles to improve (know your enemy)

On another hand it would make sense that a majority of the complains are from people who only play one role and thus do not really understand what they are asking. (Nor how they should counter.)

A few months ago, the player base dropped (I believe CoH was the main proposed reason but I honestly don't remember). The health of the game improved when the killer role stopped being stressful every single game (especially at higher skill levels).

At the moment the killer role is more difficult (or more stale, depending on how you see it : tunneling 24/7 isn't fun) so it's likely there'll be a drop until it's fixed. Hopefully this time it will not take several months.

  • Making a pause is healthy and, given the current state of the game, smart. You can however take a break and still come to the forums from time to time (if only to remember why you are taking a break).

If I didn't check the forums, I wouldn't have known Eruption was effectively dead (even stronger tunneling need, just what the doctor ordered).

There are many good games out there. A fresh Valheim run with a friend? An Icarus persistent game with another? Playing a young magician in some obscure game that just got out?

I'm guessing the right time to come back will be when (if) the killers are boosted a bit to offset the QoL (needed, granted, but helping SWFs as much as solos) AND there is more than one efficient way to win a match as killer. Hopefully it will not take several months.

    My nephew called her Sisu:

The only boons that scare me are CoH and occasionally Shadowstep.

That said - a full boon build has glaring weaknesses, especially in that if you find the boon and stuff it, they have basically no perks.

Indeed, Shadowstep can be pretty strong.

    75% means 75/100. Equal to 3/4. 3 of 4 death every match.

The chance for 4K is 300% higher than 0K. What do you think the rate make survivors want to do Gen?

    Not every match.

The probability for 4K is only 3 times the probability for 0K if there is no 1K, 2K and 3K. (Btw, I understand 300% higher as 4 times, I'm assuming you didn't mean to say "higher")

There are, however, matches with 1K, 2K and 3K. With the (insane) 75% kill rate value, the majority of matches would be in the 2 to 4 kills range. Matches with 0 and 1 kills would be pretty rare in comparison.

That's still better than only playing for hatch.

And, I know I've said it, but I consider 75% too high. 60% seems to be a sweet spot.

  • First, I want to suggest you try to play killer, even if it's a fraction of your total play time. It'll make you a better survivor.

I play both roles but I don't think it matters here. I find tunneling and camping frustrating, whatever side I'm in.

As far as I'm concerned, survivors always dictate how I play.

If the game is going at what I see as a normal pace, I try to chase equally and only start killing the moment there are only 2 gens left. For that purpose, always depending on how the survivors play, I may tunnel (but at that point, I don't mind doing it.) If I've been matched against beginners, I'll even feign to miss someone or "forget" a slug where it can be healed and move away for some hypothetical point to defend.

However, if I notice, one way or another, survivors are doing 3 gens in parallel, it's likely I'll tunnel from the get go (and I will not like it at all : the match will be short, either way, and there will be no nice chases at all)

If, on top of that, they go for a gen-before-friends style and even do not heal (with exceptions like I'm Legion or Plague) then I'll even punish the tactic by forcing a hook state.

It may be simple bad luck but since the last couple of patches, especially since last Tuesday, my matches have mostly been gen-before-friends parallel gens. After a few hard fought draws and losses, I've switched to immediately tunnel (and won all my following matches). Having to win like that sapped me of my will to play so I've been on other games since. That's how much I don't like it.

The outcome is not constant, means there will be guarantee 4k?

3 matches, 2K 3K 4K, average 75% kill rate. 66% of the match end up in 1 hatch escape or 4K. What make you think survivors will do Gen with 33% chance (less than of the time) of getting the 2nd survivor escape?

People dont do thing that they know it will not give them a better result. Killer stop playing and go afk if they know they cant get a kill. Survivor stop playing and DC/suicide if they know the result will be 1 escape through hatch.

That 75% kill rate make that exact psychology. Survivors dont do Gen if the result will be hatch escape. I think alot of people forget how the game become with 2 survivors knowing only 1 can escape, both hide or 1 of them give up so other can hatch escape.

    Guaranteed 0K too ...

It just means there is a bit more 4K and 3K than 1K and 0K, that's all. As for the draw, it should be around that percentage.

It feels like you are taking that 75% too literally. (As I said that I'm against a number that high, but that's not the point.)

About going for the hatch, assuming there are even people thinking it's worth playing, the chance of survival are probably pretty low because it means to guarantee 3 deaths and then, maybe, have a save. That's way way worse than 75% kill rate.

I'm guessing it would probably be closer to a 87%. kill rate. (50% chance to find the hatch or play the doors after 3 dead)

  • @C3Tooth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3336050#Comment_3336050

I will tell you one biggest flaw of 70-75% kill rate:

Why should survivors do Gen when in the end, 3 die and 1 escape. While they can achieve the same thing with all hiding waiting for other to die so the last one can hatch escape

Probably because it's not the constant outcome. When playing normally, some matches get more escapes, some less

For me the survivor game has always been about the chases and the jukes (also managing to hide, when appropriate). I don't think someone who plays only to get the hatch would stay for long.

That being said, I'm pretty sure 75% is too high. That is, unless the goal switches from escaping to from having nice interactions (and an appropriate score to show for it)

  • The kill rate needs to be above 50%, else the killer can't be considered dangerous.

    60% may be enough.

But, it needs to be on "same strength" matches (evaluation of same strength is another matter).

Losing matches (any side) against something too strong, then winning some against beginners to force the ratio is the worst possible solution.

I concur. It is, as far as I'm concerned, the most viable strat in most of my matches and I really don't like it.

What world do you live in where Gens before friends was not happening in your games?

If gens get finished while someone is on the hook I respond by moving closer to the hook. They made it clear they want to finish part of their objective so I have to do the same thing.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3334270#Comment_3334270

    It's really quite simple.

The smart and easy thing to do would be to nerf SWF. Add the rule : no character/perk/item/offering repeats in a SWF. Lock all changes except costume while in queue. Add a perk display while in the SWF lobby so you can see other players perk loadout.

They wont do that because survivors are would pout. The forum would have 27 pages of "revert the swf nerf."

Instead they buffed solo queue to make solo players more efficient. I was already hard core tunneling every game anyway before this update. How do I tunnel more to compensate?

DBD has not been a fair game for a long time. Nurse and Blight ruin the game for casual survivors. SWF ruins the game for casual killers making only Nurse and Blight viable against SWF. This is a feedback loop that makes everyone more unhappy.

Nerf all three things that are way too good and then bring the bad killers up to where they are about 15% weaker than nerfed Nurse/Blight.

Oh, it happened but it wasn't too common and it was a riskier venture except for SWFs (the bigger the better). I didn't mind as I could punish it dearly.

My issue is that for some reason that's almost all I'm getting (except for the full-newbies group that sometimes pop in my trial after I lose a couple of matches : talk about adding insult to injury.)

I'm not sure how to fix this. I play both roles and it's obvious these changes are a positive thing for the solos. But on another hand, as killer I can only play efficiently now. This is getting stale fast.

I've watched a recent video from the Otzdarva guy. What he says in it makes sense. I used to play "nice" most of the time, except against bullies, at least for the past 2k hours (I've got more than 3k).

I'm not sure I'll dare to play survivor anymore. I find games usually quite relaxing compared to killer but it the trend goes full tunnel, I will not like it so much, I think.

Oh, and nerfing the good things is a recipe for diaster. Buffing the weaker parts is the way.

  • @o7o said:

I've had literally 0 issue since this update, granted I've lost attrition a couple times but that was just a me issue, other than that, I'm still 3-4king people, if you are allowing survivors to crank gens that fast, that is a you problem. Gen progression showing on the HUD now is no different than before.

I find it incredibly hard to believe people are still struggling after queue times being super fast now and lobbies feeling essentially free.

You fail to understand the issue. I've killed all teams I've versed since my post. I've simply stopped playing nice. (With one exception as they had one AFK). I can still raise the bar a couple of times. Certainly once with add-ons, and one more with strong add-ons.

Now I have no choice but play efficiently. It's not fun for me and I'm pretty sure my opponents didn't enjoy it one bit.

I expect the tunnelling complains will rise along with the gen-rush ones.

I know and I'm totally in favor of extreme tunneling and all other tactics but it's BHVR's fault that they see a huge buff as a simple QoL without thinking about the consequences. I laugh at those who think that, after such a heavy change (as far as I am in favor of this change), there won't be even more aggressive playstyles.

The change in itself is right and dutiful and also necessary but it should have been accompanied by an opposite balance, for example Corrupt Intervention basekit or other changes, this was not the case and now, slowly, every killer will come to the sole and logical conclusion that he must start tunneling/camping/slugging from the first moment of the game and without any respite if he wants to be able to win, especially if he uses an M1 killer or a weak killer ( sadako ? Freddy ? )

The thing is, the reason of that buff makes sense. But I didn't expect to see a radical change so fast.

I have no idea how they can fix that at the moment. 5 minutes matches are getting old fast.

  • You understand of course that if a player rage-quits, the result of the match is irrelevant.

You can't balance against low self-esteem.

How do you keep harping on this quality of life narrative? Giving survivors constant, infallible mapwide info can't be construed as anything but a buff to all survivors. Is this gaslighting actually working on anyone?

You are not seeing the big picture here.

Solos are indeed have been at the worst position for a long time. (I play both roles, and most of my survivor plays are solo.)

Although it is a buff for all survivors, solos are the ones who will benefit from it the most.

In a few weeks, hopefully, a correction will be made to fix the issues that these improvements will bring.

  • @Tsulan said:

SWF escape rates were 15% higher. So kill rates should drop by well... 15%. Which means that the weaker killers with a sub 50% kill rate now will probably get a single kill per match.

I don't think the solos will match SWFs but since the SWFs are likely to also benefit from it, well, maybe 15% is right.

Isn't the Nurse the weakest killer for the majority of players? Buffs soon? 😋

Joke aside, I'm eager to see updated statistics in, say, a month.

  • If that stuff is accurate, any group with half a brain will be able to use that information thoroughly to know when to be ready for the doors, when getting the attention of the killer matters most, ...

In the hands of a team, it will be even more helpful because there is no need to synchronise info about gen progress anymore.

I expect the escape rate will raise quite a bit.

  • Trapper, Wraith, Hag, Ghostface, Myers, Doctor, Demogorgon, Oni, Nemesis, Dredge

  • I was just thinking I've not seen a Blight for a while now. And my very next match:

That’s the issue. When does it stop? What killer would be next? There’s always gonna be a “best killer.” So what’s the end of the line? When all killers have sh*t powers and addons? All killers are equal with trapper only without traps?

When does it stops? Look no further than V.H.S to see how that path ends.

  • They are both quite doable. Unless you go against the best (and even if)

Oh yeah, people know how to handle Hag now - but you can still do some tricks. I just poop traps out as I go, and try to never be floating traps.

They go at the tops of staircases, around corners, behind vaults, down pits etc. After a while they get so paranoid that they're spending all their time disarming my traps.

The only folks that give me the fizzy poops are the ones who'll follow you around from the get go, disarming traps and being uncatchable with your slow speed.

It always end-up like your last type of survivors.

Additionally, they never get a cam swing from the traps so it's pretty much powerless against them.

Not going to bother, it's...honestly more work than it's worth, especially after the streamer who started showing folks how to do that 'tech' (see: exploit) basically said 'no, BHVR do not care about this and reporting will do literally nothing'.

I don't think they're a Fog Whisperer, but they know all of them, so...yeah, they'd know.

I did report 'Bec in a Box' but I also doubt that will do anything.

EDIT - Not EU. They built...yeah, Pebble, and then stuff like Calm Spirit, Distortion etc.

I don't know about the "tech" (and I don't dare to ask, I don't want that to spread)

Temporary bans do not show on Steam so I don't know whatever happened to these stains. I originally thought they were cheating because of Pebble (there were track marks popping in the middle of nowhere).

VHS is a very bad game but they've got one thing right: if the players don't interact together for a while, their aura becomes visible no matter what. This would help fixing this issue if it spreads.

You have a statistically higher chance of escape and slightly more fun if you just keep trying to do a single generator.

Or if you want you can track down and sandbag the other guy, I guess.

    Anything is better than hiding.

In one such games, the "good" survivor understood I was as pissed as him about the last one (to be fair, that Claudette was the main reason the two others were already dead). He went to find her and I she ended up on a hook.

Survivors turning against a lazy coward is not common but far from being rare. They'll often go as far as throwing to ensure the traitor doesn't survive.

  • What @Sava18 said. Moreover, if the killer knows the other did nothing, he may try instead to focus on finding the useless survivor and kill him. (I would certainly try to, even without the one active survivor submitting.)

My usual opponents are already pretty annoying without flashlights (I'm only average with her and I get full teams who know exactly how and when to disarm the traps while working each on his gen. I don't need flashlights into the mix.)

  • @StarLost said:

So, yeah. Last game of the night - 4 people abusing that frigging item thing to never get AFK crows to take the game hostage on Midwich. If I hadn't had Face the Darkness, they probably would have hit the timer.

Literally just hiding from the start. Took me around 29 minutes to finally find them and kill them all.

Postgame...'LOL thats what you get for playing Blight'. I...am probably the least sweaty Blight you'll ever face, and quite possibly the worst.

I think I'm going to see out a bit more of the event and then...

    https://youtu.be/U-67i1EC0A4

Well, maybe not that extreme, but got a kiddo on the way, videos to make, wife to annoy, house to maintain, yard to fix up and a ton of games - Midnight Suns and that Spider-Man thing people keep saying is good to catch up on.

Probably coming back for the anniversary but...yeah, no. That sort of tore it.

I hope you've reported them. I had four idiots like that in a Nurse game, it lasted 45 minutes.

They came equipped for stealth and annoyance (Pebble) on the Saloon map. In the end I've found and killed 3.

Taking the game hostage would grant them a temporary ban.

If you are in Europe, it may even be the same group.

    ...Who even does this anymore?

Like, unless it's an obvious hacker or something then - sure?

Also, how on earth are the two remotely comparable. Dodging the lobby doesn't lock all four survivors into the next game. Killers can't just suicide...you do know this right?

Beside the suspected hackers : Wraith or Hag in a four-flashlights lobby. I'm not that much of a masochist.

Be the change you want to see. I try not to take out my frustrations from previous matches on survivors in the next match. I just respond in kind to how people play. If the survs sweat, then I will play hard ball. If survs seem weak or struggling against me I'll dial it back. Usually I'll let a surv or two go at the end of most matches. But if survs are actively toxic and BM me? Then it's on and I will fight dirtt. They will get hook camped and tunneled right up into the entity's spidery claws.

Bullying low level survivors is easy but boring, and unpleasant for said survs. But humbling a bully squad is sweet as honey. Try and reserve your rough plays for players who deserve it. Otherwise you perpetuate the salt.

When I play surv I'm fed up of killers who BM me when I can run a chase for more than 30 seconds, haven't BMd them and don't even have a damn torch.

It takes me a few minutes to cool down. This is not something that'll ever change (I'm no spring chicken.)

It's not about bullying beginners and I've never used the term "BM". Playing mercilessly means I'm not giving any free pass.

Half the team who followed yesterday's cheated game survived ... thanks to a Kobe. It's at that moment, about two minutes into the game, that I've realized they were out-of-commission. (So I've put them together and went for lunch, the two others had given up already.)

    They were lucky.
