Honestly usually once or twice a game as him. And I think I did see another on the newest reports page!

    That's a lot.

I do start to tunnel as the game begin, your fun is not my concern at all

Or you're tryin to tell me you wait at least 2 minutes between one gen and another ? Do you give time to the killer ? Let me guess...no

So why, as Killer, i have to stop using one of the best tactic in this game ? Are you going to do the same ? Let me guess...no

Why survivors can use all the best, smart, tactics and perks while the killer have to be a clown without brain and tactics ? Oh wait..you want to win right ? Guess what..i want to win as well

    You've guessed wrong.

I couldn't care less what you do : play however you want.

As killer, my rules are : avoid tunneling, avoid camping, only start killing when 2 gens are left, give hatch. There are exceptions (bad map offering, bullies, gens-before-friends, specific task, ...) but it's mostly how I do it. If killers could collect tools offered by survivors, I'd need a hangar. Yet, I've killed more than 12k survivors so far.

On the survivor side I play about as relaxed : I like gimmicky builds. I seldom use a tool, I always try to escape if I can but I'll not mind doing a swap to save someone else. When a killer camps and tunnels from the start, he loses my respect. But in the end, it doesn't really matters : I'll forget he exists before the next match ends.

  • I like it a lot.

There were discussions about the Nurse theme a while ago. I had sampled a few musics/styles and found three that felt "right".

The new Nurse theme is pretty close to one of these three.

People can have their two cents on the DBD Forums about how strong or weak each perk is, but my entire reason behind it being nerfed is just so people will stop complaining.

There is the obvious issue of Auto-DH but that is more of an issue of people cheating than DH being an issue.

People complaining should be completely irrelevant.

  • "Without freedom of speech, we wouldn't know who the idiots are."

    The same principle applies here.

I agree hearing is an incredible mechanic for catching survs. I do it all the time.

It is hard to make it fair though if a visual element is added. I'm all for a way to help deaf or hard pf hearing players. But it's hard to do that without simply handing an extra mechanic to players with perfect hearing who want to sweat snd give themselves an extra advantage. And unfortunately there isn't really a way to stop that.

Agreed, but that's the same for the terror radius then. Unless it's just a kind of "volume" bar.

And that makes me think ...

It could be a spectrometer, both for survivors and killers. Maybe with some colouring.

    Loop a nurse is useless?

That's probably why Dan is one of the best Nurse Loopers around...

    I don't know that individual.

I almost always agree with what you write so maybe we have a different definition of "looping". Bar a few fringe cases, looping a Nurse ends badly pretty fast as far as I'm concerned (playing both as the Nurse and the survivor).

  • @HoodedWildKard said:

Mm i mean killers alreadybhave scratchmarks to help follow survs. There isn't really a way to give them footsteps thay would simulate being able to hear them.

Scratchmarks are pretty minor for tracking. I'm pretty certain most killers would say their hearing is #1 or #2 for tracking.

I have an excellent hearing (I've worked for years in the field of psychoacoustics) and I often know a survivor is close just because I've heard their breath.

I'm not thinking about a text, like I've seen mentioned in a reply.

Maybe some shimmer on the side of the screen, something subtle.

Again though, you are missing the point. It would be effectively removing a part of the game's design for the worse, making it less skillful.

I'm not trying to be obtuse here ... but, could you explain why it may be "bad" for killers and "good" for survivors? (I'm paraphrasing)

It's entirely possible you don't think the feature is "good" for survivors either, and in that case it doesn't need any further explanation.

  • @bjorksnas said:

Some cheaters do perk stack boil over, but you can tell it apart from cheating since if they cheated the stack vs the perk being legit you physically cannot walk forward.

Heres a video of me hooking them you gotta hopefully be near a hook and use their wiggling to move rather than you being able to walk forward yourself

    https://youtu.be/4FbsiOMuqrY

But if you are able to walk forward then its just the effects of the perk being strong and its something you just get better at managing with time

Ah yes, that's exactly that, I think. I have to watch my video again to be sure.

edit: drat, I've lost it. I've kept the wrong match >_>

You just revealed yourself that you dont play survivors enough to understand how Eruption works.

I cant even drop my medkit for teammate to heal themselves while theyre standing there for half a minute wondering why I dont heal them.

Move to another Gen? Those Gens are probably get kicked too, why should I run to another Erupted Gen, start over then get Incapacitated again; when I can wait for half a minute to continue my Gen knowing my Gen no more Erupted.

People who defence Eruption, giving “counters” advice that make zero sense

No, only that sometimes, usually when I'm half asleep, I write as a reaction to the text and without thinking much about the details. You can see it akin to being drunk. (Although I've learned to never go as far as getting hallucinations anymore.) In these cases, I usually admit my mistake and move on. (Which I did, before finally falling asleep.)

Note that in this specific case, I've never been in a situation where any of these points was an issue.

    • I usually try to be alone on my gen (parallelism is key)
    • I usually drop the gen when I feel or know a survivor is about to go down (among other expected other game "events" unrelated to this perk). If I misjudge, I usually move away or go for an unhook (depending on how close the hit happened). I don't run so the 25 seconds aren't an issue to me.
    • If I'm not alone in my gen, I'm in a chase or going for an unhook.

In essence, Eruption seldom has any effect on me.

It's a puzzle so many seem to be unaware of the state of the match so often as to be bitten. (Or it's like these player who pretend they only go against god Nurses and Blights and that's all the killers they verse ... a slight exaggeration)

Maybe the new survivor indicators will help in some extent.

Incapacitated means you cannot do anything except for unhooking Survivors.

No totems, no healing, no doing other gens.

    Good point, both of you.

Because not letting people play the video game for thirty seconds feels bad.

I don't care about all the blah blah unfair for solos! tripe. I care about literally not being able to do stuff for half a minute. Even blocking the gen would be better and still strong, cuz at least you can find another gen or heal while it's blocked.

    Moving to another gen.

    Doing a totem.

    Helping a friend.

True but it just means there's even less reason to try and ever loop her. You're outright punished for NOT holding W.

There has never been any reason to try to loop her. (And maybe that's why some survivors struggle so much against Nurse)

  • Eruption seems pretty fine to me.

But, technically, every single perk and power is closer being nerfed ... sooner or later.

  • I used to like her but after the directional nerf/patch, any decent survivor seemed able to pin-point her location.

I'm curious to know how your opinion may evolve after a certain amount of games.

  • @Sonzaishinai said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3328375#Comment_3328375

    Not even that.

True tunneling is a all or nothing strat and really isn't as efficient as people believe. A lot of people who say they got "genrushed" are people who try this all or nothing strat and failed

You want to bring the game to 3v1 as fast as possible but good survivors will absolutely punish you if you focus solely on one of them.

The most effecient way to play is hook survivor A, get B while another survivor resques A, get A again while another gets B, and then get another (preferably B) while A is getting resqued to then hunt A down.

Constant pressure with only one survivor being able to work on gens and still get the 3v1 situation very fast. This ofcourse isn't easy/always possible to get survivors before the previous one was resqued but in terms of effeciency this will always beat focussing solely on A and nothing else

I said that in jest. 😉

(As for discussing strategies, it depends on so many factors : killer, map, tactic of the survivors, ...)

  • Maybe let's wait for a bit until we draw conclusions?

The solo has been largely miserable for a lot of players. (Mine is mostly fine)

Let's see where it takes the game in a couple of weeks.

Maybe killers will just have to simply play as hard against solos than SWFs.

  • Happened to me a few days ago. I have no idea how my fast-vault in the shack rolled me back in that locker. (But I believe a machine was downloading an update so it may explain it ... that or I'm really clumsy 😆)

    It felt so awkward. 😅

It is smaller, but loops are so packed together and other trash assets in the way, its stronger for good survivors.

I've only played it once in the PTB, so I don't remember much. (And I was trying the updated Nurse, and my opponents gave up in two minutes >_> ... )

  • If the map is smaller, it's already a huge improvement.

Yeah, all this "nerf" did, was remove fun builds along with fixing a single perk combo that was a problem. What they should have done was give her a really tiny terror radius, and a 40 meter lullaby. Then she could keep the mangled and other things.

That sounds like a better idea indeed. What's done is done I guess.

  • Are you sure? It was my understanding the old system would still be available.

I really dislike the new wiggle system. I'm not sure I want to play like that.

  • @sonata93 said:

This may be true, but this isn't the main complaint about Nurse no? If it was, you'd see more people complaining about killers like Dredge and Sadako who can get to the other side of a map pretty quickly by teleporting.

It's the fact that her power is essentially both anti-chase and anti-loop as it allows her to negate most of the basic chase mechanics in the game (pallets, windows, loops, drops, etc). Personally, I don't see people say that Nurse is 'OP' because she was able to teleport straight to them after BBQ procs, it's more along the lines of a chase that would last at least 30 seconds with another killer is over in half the time with Nurse as her power doesn't synergize with the basic chase/escape mechanics of the game, and it allows her to ignore pretty much all the resources survivors have.

I see what you're saying, but at the end of the day, the fact that an M1 killer can cross a map in the same time Nurse's blinks doesn't really prove anything. Nurse is OP and a relic of old DBD and was long, long overdue a nerf.

You know, players who know how to handle a Nurse can last way more in a chase. Of course they don't verse her like they would, say, Trapper.

  • @Little_Kitten said:

Speaking of situations where the environment blocks blinks, raise your hand if you've ever been traumatized by the famous :

"I just hooked someone in the basement, I put myself against a wall, I charge my blink to full, and ..... actually no, I can't get out of the basement... DAMN OBSTACLES AT THE FINISH LINE."

    🤣🤣

That one is embarrassing when it happens. Sometimes I don't even see what the problem was afterward.

  • @woundcowboy said:

Since we finally got a “practice” mode, I decided to test how fast Nurse can actually traverse the map. I tested how long it took for Nurse to blink from one end of midwich to another, and then tried this with Trapper to compare.

It takes them both the exact same amount of time. Next time anyone says “but Nurse has a teleport”, remember this. Now obviously Nurse will save time on multi-level maps, but her map control is overall average (read not good, since maps are too big.)

I thought that was a known fact. It's why range-addons were necessary for most players on big maps.

I guess now the tactic on such maps will mostly be 3-gen camp and tunnel.

    We'll see.

  • @SammehStormborn said:

iirc I think this has been fixed when the update comes out - sure it was in the PTB patch notes

Probably depends on the killer. Nurse might not move at all while Sadako or others drop. It's hard to say.

Indeed, and that's why the question is specifically aimed at the devs.

  • @AmpersandUnderscore said:

The real answer here is because balancing the game around a single statistic like 'kill percentage' is misleading. There are changes they can make that affect the highest tier of players far more than newer players.

One of the problems with nurse is her add-ons, which is literally the only part of her kit that's changing. Newer nurses will/should be using half of their add-on slots for plaid flannel to understand and see where they're going. This add-on isn't changing at all, and nurse players who rely on it still have it.

One of the problems at high tiers of play is with stacking double range add-ons, which cut down chase times even more than ignoring all terrain/obstacles already did. An inexperienced nurse could even be punished by using these, since any mistake gets amplified by the extra range. These add-ons are being removed completely.

In my opinion, the special attack change is way more annoying than the add-ons (Franklin, among others). As for the add-ons their power/counters can be debated on for days. Here I'm curious about the thought process, not this specific killer. It's just that it's her turn and seeing how low she is generally makes it a good subject.

What do you mean with the kill percentage being misleading? Is it imprecise? What (else) would matter in your opinion?

  • @AmpersandUnderscore said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3324983#Comment_3324983

Eruption triggers when a survivor enters the dying state (point two, specifically, in your own link). There's no requirement for a survivor to be hooked, in fact they could be left as a slug with no hooks occurring at all from the down.

Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, on the other hand, is partially countered by letting go of a gen when a survivor is hooked.

I stand corrected. Oh you are right. I was still releasing the gen before the hook though. Pain Resonance may have been in play because in the most memorable game the gens was "exploding" when the killer hooked.

Nowadays I'm always checking end games for Eruption and Call of Brine. In that match he had Eruption, not CoB. (And most likely PR, that I didn't check for)

In the end, that makes it just easier than what I thought. (And I'll still release before a hook, Eruption isn't the only annoying perk out there.)

  • @HoodedWildKard said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3324981#Comment_3324981

I know what you mean. I enjoy the challenge of proving I'm better than a team of survs. But I don't need a 4k to do that.

I'd like everybody to enjoy the game if possible. And if I know I could have the 4k? I'm more an happy to down a surv, go to a hook, shake my head then carry them to a gen and let them get on with gens or if they're last one alive take them to hatch.

They know I outplayed them and they get more BP for gen work and surviving. Since I don't care about BP or my rank anymore I find the game much more enjoyable. And I love those interactions where a surv realises you're being nice and you get offered gifts, have slug races etc.

It's always nice when you get a gift 😄.

I'm wondering what's the proportion of players approaching the game like this.

I think the "nicest" I've ever been to a survivor was in a game where one courageous Meg was the only one who didn't gave up immediately and tried to do the gens. (A beginner, that was too cute) I've done everything to give her the "Left for dead" achievement and she got it.

I know killers aren't supposed to be babysitters but ... sometimes ... 😅

I'm kind of bummed when I think the new Mori mechanic will probably make playing nice way more difficult.

Yh i almost always give hatch. It's hard to please survivors isn't it? 🤣 someone will always complain. It is nicr to know that other players let survs go fairly often. So many always try to force the 4k so hard

It's not so much about pleasing them. It's kind of hard to explain why, now that I try to. When I know I've won, I don't see the point going further.

Bullies, bullies now get wiped out, if I can, which is most of times. I find their elimination particularly satisfying if I'm on a killer I don't use often or if I'm using no perks.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I have a feeling the top 5% kill rate chart was a bit misleading. They didn't quite explain it, and it leads me to believe it was just showing the stats of killer players at the top 5% of MMR regardless of opponent level. The numbers might be a bit different if they're sorted for "top 5% killer vs top 5% survivors". But those matches very rarely happen because queue times must take 0.00001 seconds.

That's a possibility, but then it would probably mean the numbers are lower, wouldn't it?

  • @HoodedWildKard said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3324850#Comment_3324850

We'll have to agree to disagree on the solution. Problem with accurate mmr is you'd be waiting forever for a match. High mmrbplayers would always see the same people in matches. At least with 2 different playlists people will generally be pulled in the right direction.

I tend to play the same way. If I sweat killer I usually win. And it's gotten boring so I also play hard to start with and chill out late game if I have control of the match. I'll usually let 1 or 2 survs escape. More pleasant experience all round.

I usually get GGs from the ones I release but the ones I kill sometimes get salty because I spared someone else and not them lol.

I'm not sure we are even disagreeing that much. The queue length isn't factored for me. I only look at "fair" (for lack of a better word) matches.

As for the prediction on how a casual/ranked queue would go, it's only a guess, from both of us. There isn't really anything to defend there.

I've stopped letting two survivors (or more) escape, even when I crush them. The MMR was trying to balance the outcome and it wasn't pretty. (I still do it if I get the pretty rare early double-rage quit.) The nicest outcome in my opinion is to give hatch. Usually who to doesn't matter.

I also get the ones ranting about who I've chosen, obviously. It's kind of funny because I seldom really "chose" and the ones ranting tend to be weaker (from my point of view) than the one I let live.

It's a bit like when I lose (because of course I do, even as a Nurse) the ones making noise and being obnoxious in the chat are usually the incompetent ones.

  • I suggest you get OBS ready to record your matches and upload them to youtube.

After having reported the cheater in game, upload the video, add the timestamps in the video description and fill the following form:

EDIT: weird, the URI wasn't posted. I see Rizzo has posted it below so I'll leave it at that.

Create an account and login (so you can track the issues) then go back to the page.

    Select "Dead by Daylight"

Put your player ID (e.g. steam ID 64)

Fill the other fields and put a link to the video in the description of the issue.

Contrary to what some say, BHVR most certainly handle these issues.

Except we all know nurse is the best killer in dbd bar maybe alch-ring and iri-tag blight after the nurse changes. Regardless of what the people on the forums tell you, nurse is a skill issue for the killer bar a few maps. Nurse takes maybe 20 games until you get the muscle memory down and that's if you are untalented at video games. What's left is reading survivors and many other killers also do that. The simple answer is, people who play dbd are generally bad.

yes yes yes, I should have mentioned it's not really about the Nurse.

    Oh wait, I did.

As for "we all know", well, in a given echo chamber it is. But the numbers tell a different story.

I will not reply to such comments anymore (not the point) but thanks for bumping the thread.

  • I went against several Eruptions yesterday. One of my counters was to let the generator go before a hook. (And generally trying to be aware of the match and when a teammate is about to get downed. Keeping an eye on things helps.)

I've been bitten a few times but it's nothing special.

    I don't get the drama.

  • @HoodedWildKard said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3324664#Comment_3324664

It's never going to remove the issue entirely. But it certainly won't be as relentless as the current single playlist. Look at any game with a casual/ranked split. My experience of those is that the casual games tend to be more enjoyable and have less salt.

In a casual playlist of course you will still get bad games, there will always be trolls and people who play deliberately to annoy other players. But there would certainly be less game where teams get roflstomped. Because sweaty players who only play to win and want that rank BP every month would mostly be on the ranked playlist.

And if surv teams are mostly solo q or casual swfs. The killers will be under less pressure and will be able to play less effective builds and killers without fear of getting genrushed and teabagged constantly. Won't be taking out frustrations as much.

There will always be issues with players playing like #########. But the general dynamic of a casual queue will be different, and generally more pleasant for players who want to enjoy the game without having to constantly run DH, DS, Prove thyself and hyperfocus or eruption, call of brine, bbq and franklin's. Some bad matches of course, but more pleasant even ones than people currently get.

I think I understand your point but I don't think it would really go that way.

As killer I usually try to play casual myself and only go hard when I see the team plays efficient. (As survivor, since I either play solo, either play with beginners friends, casual is the only way I can do it)

But not everyone considers the same things as being casual or sweaty. When I go against a team that has no chance winning, I usually pace myself and slug a survivor once or twice instead of killing him. Some survivors really enjoy the match more and give me praises, some loathe it and insult me. Yesterday I was even called a cheater because, after having massacred a team for the first half of the match, I suddenly stopped being so dangerous and failed several chases (and apparently suddenly forgot I had to hook them, a detail that had escaped my accuser's analysis). The accuser had more than 4000 hours BTW, which was a surprise to me.

I believe the only way to ensure a casual vs harsh play would be a working and accurate MMR. And, believe it or not, but in my experience it mostly works. (The only reason I go against easy survivors is that I play nice too often)

Getting rid of most cheaters would be a prerequisite though. I've noticed that after I utterly "lose" a match because I'm going against cheaters*, my next few games are way too easy.

*) I go against way too many of these stains, I'm fed-up having to upload gigabytes of videos to report them.

People bring up hours in this game way too much. If you have talent then you can be better than 99% of the player base in 1k hours in whichever role you are maining. This is not to spite you unparticular or in any way but this game is really not that complex.

The game is probably more complex than you believe. Knowing each loops, being able to chain them properly, knowing each killer and how to verse them properly ... it's not rocket science, sure, but it's not that simple. If it was the amount of hours would be meaningless and, in my experience, it's not.

I didn't brought the hours. I only gave a ballpark of the general milestones I've read in the past and that seem to be accurate enough.

And of course you are right, some people have more talent than others.

That being said, I wouldn't say it applies when someone gives a blanket "killers are OP" comment. I mean, even when I read OP's text my conclusion is that the issue is unskilled survivors. When I play survivor it's mostly solo and my escape rate isn't that low, unless there is one drooling rage-quitting idiot.

I agree totally. Solo q is an unpleasant, punishing experience. In game VC would be an amazing way to improve it. I've made multiple threads on the subject. But a lot of people are worried about toxicity for some reason (as if there would be mute/block/report functions)

A truly coordinated 4 man swf on comms is a nightmare for killer. But only with tight tactics, above average personal skill on each surv, serious experience and map knowledge. Solo q suffers because there is little to no teamwork.

There is also the attitude of the people who play. Since we only have one playlist, sweat lords who optimise every build and tactic are plonked in the same pool as casual players who just wamt to enjoy the game without sweating hard.

Another thing I'm convinced would help the experience of solo q is to make a casual playlist separate from a ranked one. So killers no longer feel the need to sweat 4ks every game to keep building their rank.

This idea has been suggested many times and simply cannot work. Nothing prevents someone from sweating in the "casual" mode.

The only difference is that the worst jerks will go there to find easy preys.

  • Killers aren't too strong, definitively not.

I'm not sure how to say this but, 300 hours is not exactly a lot. Usually, one is considered out of the beginners group around 500 hours, and decent around 1000 hours.

The real issue is mixing different skill levels together (both killers and each individual survivor).

When I play against individually strong solos, they know how to act and be a PITA.

When I play with individually strong teammates, we "understand" each-other and we know what to do.

I consider myself an average survivor though, and I have more than 3000 hours in the game.

Then your comment makes a lot more sense now. I apologize

Why apologize? I made the mistake (and even if, I don't see anything in your command warranting an apology)

  • There have been many propositions about recording the matches for a very long time.

  • Is it the same noise as when a game begins?

    I often hear it.

Another one ... needless to say : the survivors were fully exploiting the broken loops.

    Still pending?

There was another incident earlier in the match where I was blinded immediately like this, looked down right away, but stayed blinded for about 6 seconds. No other flashlight or blinding sounds. Seemed pretty sus, but the people in this group with visible profiles had 8k+ hours each, so seemed unlikely for them to be cheaters. Just hate losing a 150 game win streak and not knowing for sure if you just got outplayed or if cheaters were involved.

You should record all your games, especially if you go against strong teams (meaning you probably have a high enough MMR to go against cheaters).

I think one of the last cheaters I've been again had been 4 years on Steam, its account is now marked with its first game ban.
