The bad massively overshadows the good.

Gutting meta perks is just as bad as not changing them. DbD suffers from a lack of viable perk variety and all but deleting the perks that people are currently using will just make this problem worse.

Making OP perks not OP should help with variety.

I guess we'll see in a few days. (Once we get past the part where a bunch of players give-up and complain, like they did with the previous shake-up)

@drsoontm I haven't played for a year and that has it's pros and cons

The only con I see is that coming back may be quite difficult with the new perks, the changes, ...

But if you don't really plan to come back (watching games is an option) there is no con whatsoever, IMHO.

You just got bored from the game, play something else

Not simply bored, but yes, that's basically what I've been doing since.

I think a lot of people seemed to have hit that point. New killers certainly help but years of the same setup over and over again will eventually take their toll.

I'm still enjoying the game well enough but I also don't play nearly as much as I used to. Some of that is frustration, some of that is nothing to play towards (while great for new players, the new perk unlock setup instantly made everyone have everything unlocked for me), and some is just boredom of the game just never changing.

I hope you get your spark back (or ideally BHVR figures something out to put that spark back into the game) but I get where you're coming from.

The announced changes may shake things a bit (for the better). I'll check streamers to see the game-play variety they get in their matches.

The etymology of Exposed strongly suggest it was originally intended as “reveal what’s hidden” so that’s not helping your argument at all. The first line is the contemporary definition, which also doesn’t work for DbD since the basic state of a survivor is that they’re defenseless.

"early 15c., "to leave without shelter or defense"

You'll have to give a reference for "reveal what's hidden"

    edit: ...

If you mean the even earlier sense, then it's simply irrelevant here. In a few centuries, when a new language will use the English meaning of "exposed", nobody in his right mind will look at the path of the meaning to find the current one. Only to understand the underlying idea that led to it.

As in, today, the current definition, which goes back to : the word accurately describes the survivor states.

    They?

we are not (only) talking about children/students here. At all.

and the naming should be self explanatory, and not be explained to you by an outside source.

the fact that many people already agree with OP should tell you it’s not „perfect“.

Usually adults have been students and even children before (it's not unheard of). Note I've not been a child (nor a student) since way back sometime during the last century and I still can complain to my parents.

The meaning is self-explanatory. But if we have to take care of the average idiot instead of making him pause and think "maybe I've never really understood the actual meaning of that word" where do we stop? We don't, so we won't.

"Look, everyone who do not understand that word agrees" is not really an argument.

  • If you got 3-genned you didn't do good at all, just saying.

I didn’t even know we had hazardous weather conditions in DbD. Thanks for clarification. So it’s aura reveal and (more) damage from weather.

or maybe you can just admit it’s not entirely unambiguous in the context of this game where aura reading/revealing is very prominent.

I already know about the other meaning of exposed and how it is fitting here. But, let’s not pretend that many people knew that from the beginning, or that it is self explanatory. Or that the naming of a status condition should be a learning lesson for etymology.

They can complain about their lack of understanding to their parents and teachers.

The word in this context is perfect.

    edit: made reply unambiguous.

P.S. that comment about the weather doesn't help your case.

    exposed

    /ɪkˈspəʊzd,ɛkˈspəʊzd/

    adjective

    1. not covered or hidden; visible.
    2. "the venue featured beautiful hardwood floors and exposed brick walls"

oh. I got it all wrong. So it actually is revealing me to the killer and not making me one shot. Damn.

(yes i know there are more definitions - but that is the entire problem OP was talkin about)

open to view; not shielded or protected; also : not insulated… See the full definition

    1. having no protection from bad weather: 2. able to be easily harmed…

Something that's exposed is uncovered or unprotected. An exposed hillside isn't sheltered by hills, trees, or buildings, but is completely open to the wind and weather.

The essence of the words remains the same. I'm amazed it's even subject to discussion.

Players who really care about the use of the word may take up to look it up and, one can dream, learn about etymology.

EXPOSE Meaning: "to leave without shelter or defense," from Old French esposer, exposer "lay open, set forth, speak… See origin and meaning of expose.

  • @Unimatrix00 said:

Yeah, the suggestions here are just as vague as Exposed. I would suggest not changing it, newbies can easily use the wiki to learn what exposed means.

    Or an English dictionary.

  • Exposed for me means to be unprotected or at the mercy of.

It is perfectly concise in this context.

  • All I'm taking from this discussion it that it's explicitly targeted at "killers mains" instead of simply "killers", which is incontestably a faux-pas. (Not owning it doesn't change that fact, only the way one is being percieved.)

Also, as it has been pointed out, notably by @Tsulan and @rysm, wasting other's time isn't even limited to the killer's role.

Most survivor games I've been in (both as killer or survivor) tend to end with at least one jerk waiting for the last second of the EGC.

Killers wasting my time? Pretty rare though.

As @Caiman has pointed out : there are jerks in this game, just move on.

"The incentive for tunneling is the lack of other options."

I'm sorry but that's total bs, at least for killers who tunnel with 5 gens left.

Obv. there are some scenarios where there are no options, but my suggestions are mostly meant to counter tunneling at 5 gens, which just shows a lack of skill.

Also, what options have actually been taken from killers? The devs increased gen times, a killer can still go after another person, they can currently wait out BT and hook again with no penalty, they can go to another gen that survivors are working on, they can get into another chase, etc.

What options are begin taken that AREN'T related to tunneling? I'm not saying playing killer is easy, it's usually not, but I don't see why killers need the "I NEED TO TUNNEL AT 5 GENS" mentality when there ARE options.

    Call that however you want.

When a player realises that he either tunnels, either loses depending on how the survivors are playing, he will end up tunnelling from the get go.

Of course there are outliers that would play like that all the time but they aren't the majority or it would have been like this since the beginning.

We had a period where killers had other options. Complains there were that games were too long, or whatever else.

I hope they are happy now.

I'm not playing at the moment btw. Having to tunnel to win is just not fun.

  • @Pulsar said:

    Idk.

It's just surprising to me that people think Killer isn't the best it's ever been.

It was demonstrably better a few patches ago, and probably best right after the perk overhaul.

  • 1) irrelevant

    2) exploitable. Just look at all the survivors using BT as a tanking mechanism to see how much they want to be tunneled (I make a point tunneling and killing any survivor doing that)

The incentive for tunneling is the lack of other options.

The more these options are being curtailed, the more tunneling happens.

So far, every move since at least the "big overhaul" has been turning the need for tunneling up to 11.

  • It has been my experience too, although I've started to play survivor about 300 to 400 hours in (I've past 3k)

Survivor is more relaxing because most of the time, you do "nothing". There is barely anything to keep track of.

I've found some killers more difficult to handle than others (for me Nurse is on the easy side and stealth are an issue but as killer I'm mostly Nurse so I know how she works)

During my last match I was amazed at the amount of information available : it's better than when I play with my friends. Granted, my current team is very good, my good teams having given up on the game : one around Billy's nerf, the other with the boons (they were also playing both roles and got fed up).

I can only imagine what a good team can do with that. Thankfully I'm not playing at the moment. I'm waiting for them to balance this a bit. Having to tunnel isn't fun.

Hopefully it will not take too much time : the population has dropped about 35% since June, they are bound to react.

  • At this point I can't help but wonder if they are actively trying to lose players.

  • Doesn't sound like anything weird.

What make you think it's a cheater?

  • @Krazzik said:

The main issue is that there are heavily uneven maps, not neccessarily the offerings themselves. That said they certainly could change them to only increase the chance to get that map, not make it guarenteed.

If maps were balanced, there would be no issue indeed ... however ...

    @MrPeanutbutter said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3362062#Comment_3362062

Agree. The real problem is unbalanced maps. If the devs fixed broken maps, players wouldn’t be as upset about offerings

What do you think is more likely? Map offerings getting changed or maps being balanced properly by the devs?

    @Seraphor said:

Hopefully not. You'll kill Myers and Ghostface.

I've never used a map offering for these (or anyone really) and had no trouble.

I've been sent to many awful maps though. (Something I counter by making the match as unfun as possible but still ...)

  • Survivors disconnect on anything.

  • Yes, now almost anybody can do a save. One has to have a very bad timing to fail a flash-save.

  • When Netflix will file for bankruptcy, the IP should be up for grabs. Maybe then.

  • I fun games sometimes. On a good night I get one to three of the following:

    • Painting the floor with the blood of bullies (in for being nuisances with the gens as an afterthought).
    • Fertilizing the ground with cocky groups who forgot a killer can be dangerous (they have a plan, I plan not to follow it).
    • Going against a playful group of survivors (in essence not playing the gens).

These are the reason I still launch the game sometimes.

    edit: desciptions

    Bullies

I play Nurse, basic skin, no exposition perks. I'm quite decent with her (29k+ blink attacks) but I start clumsily (on purpose). It's that map with the kind of huge cauldron in a building (the name escapes me at the moment : hard day). I test each survivor (as any Nurse would) but I don't really attack. That group took this as a cue to play aggressively and I let them be nasty to this poor poor Nurse ... until they are all around me, BMing like the monkeys they are.

And then I do a walk hit and a short blink which finally hits. They aren't afraid yet so they even start to heal. I walk hit the healer (who tried to dodge with a 360) and proceed playing normally, chasing and slugging them all. Apparently I suck at Nurse and I was lucky. xD

    Bullies 2

Deathslinger, nice classy skin, I basic build (the kind recommended by a good player). I'm not good with it but I'm still a 3k hours player so I manage. It was just after its nerf. It's one of the Autoheaven and I go against a group that's just there to click the flashlights, synchronize head-ons, ... you know the style. I kept my cool and always played unexpectedly. I didn't took the baits (quite the opposite, most of the time). I didn't hook, at first (waste of time, they were saboing). I've slugged, hit, harpooned everytime when they were expecting something else. Four dead at the end. It was kind of stressful but so satisfying. No salt in the lobby though, so that's a point for them.

    Bullies 3

    ...

Well, with Dredge, Doctor, ... it's always the same story, always a bit tense, and it always feels good in the end.

I can't recall a bully group that survived these past two years. They all behave similarly so even with a killer I'm not good with it ends badly for them.

    Cocky

Huntress, Venice mask, blue skin. I'm OK with her. Ormond offering. I find the four survivors on the corner of the map with the raised hut. They push the gens. I hit one and he leaves, the others stay around the gen, hiding with all the crap that's around. Whenever I move a bit away, they jump back, or simply tap it. They are not afraid, not one bit. Chases, hits, body-blocking ... they clearly thought they were safe. Newsflash for them : they weren't. I down the protector, hit another, down the first hit, kick the gen again with one already being healed ... but as for bullies (which they weren't) it's a game that favors the killer. One step at a time I hurt, down, down again, until none is left standing. Four slugs, four deaths.

    Playful

Myers, P1 all game (what's the name of that build? Burger-King?). I play for jump-scares and grabs. The survivors panic but end up pointing to me when they detect me. I play it "Ghostface", only showing a bit of my head from the corner of a wall, then hiding fully, then popping again, ... sometimes managing to get them from the other side. In the end chat one told me her friend screamed so much her ears were ringing xD.

But outside of these gems, it's weak survivors, gens-before-friends-rushing survivors, awful map offerings and cheaters. (Which is why I only launch the game sometimes.)

  • Absolutely not.

Putting aside how underwhelming that chapter is, I've lost the drive to play. I launch the game once every few weeks then I go back doing stuff I like better.

Last time getting Garden of pain five times the same night, then, the next day, as my first map did it.

A month before it was the now absolute necessity to tunnel (if you want to win) or to be tunneled (obviously).

Getting so many cheaters is not helping.

I still browse the forums to check for some good news (Steamdeck compatibility, finally some serious server-side validation, removal of the auto-miss, removal of the map offerings, ...)

  • Possibly at the same time they fix the inconsistent collisions, the window "tech" (and other no-collision nonsense), the camera rotation exploit, ...

  • I made several, usually survivors I've versed as killer. (Or played with, I don't recall all the circumstances.)

Some became friends I talk with on Discord regularly.

Quite a lot are Steam friends I exchange a few words with once in a while. (One of them in this very thread.)

idk. if i'm getting bored i'll do dumb things to try and make it interesting for myself, but sometimes i just slaughter them to get the match over asap. because honestly who wants to sit in a trial against someone who's dragging it out by "being nice"?

i'm already putting myself at a disadvantage by doing challenges in the trial. that's as far as i can pull my punches without just standing still.

Some players like a quick end better. Some are really enjoying the longer match (I've got way more thanks and praises for playing the nice round-robin and giving chances that than complains for not ending it quickly.)

I've been known to stand still too, for extreme and thankfully rare cases like 2 AFKs or some other strong handicap. But don't think for one second I'm not a complete bastard when I go against a good team. (As said earlier : I'm all for competition)

    @Akumakaji said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/365911/what-would-you-think-of-a-be-nice-notification

For real. Even if its just one player in the bunch who is new, I always feel so bad for them when I see the post-game screen and all they had was 3 yellow perks.

In my eyes its the same as with the hook stages: tunnelers will tunnel and campers will camp, but at least give the nice killers a fighting chance to not be mean douchebags. If I want to tunnel someone out, well, you sure bet that I can count till 3 in one sitting, but when I want to go for 8 hooks, mistakes happen.

I actually don't get how so many peeps here can confidently claim "this guys all had 2000+ hours". When I try to assess my opponents before the game, 3/4 of the profiles are private. I tunneled out a sub 100h survivor in my last game, who was introduced by their veteran friend and that one accused me of bullying ... but he forgot that their mates profile was private and I couldn't see their DBD hours.

Its not a "big" problem, but on the other hand, maybe it is? DBD isn't exactly newby friendly and every time a newby gets tunneled out of the game, because "they were the weak link" (who would have thought?) they might drop the game, because they see no point in trying further and further.

Exactly. (But being nice, for me, depends on how the survivors are playing.)

I'd like hook counts for killer too. Sometimes I miscount and it's kind of annoying to unexpectedly end someone early ... sometimes.

  • Map offerings are one of the worst things in this game.

  • @Mr_K said:

Is a catch 22. If the system was smart enough to know your opponents are much weaker than you. It would be smart enough not to make the match up in the first place.

Yes, but we also know the system knowingly rushes matches in some conditions.

  • You don't. Usually you tunnel.

  • @Sometimes_Sage said:

Regret would be to strong of a word, but it is noticeable that many Survivors teabag and BM even when you're playing nice as Killer, even if you do it to an obvious degree.

These, thankfully, tend to do it mid-game when they think they have the upper hand.

How they regret it in the end game chat.

  • Many times, yes. But it's insignificant compared to the number of times I didn't.

  • I had a match against a Ghostface recently.

The only time I was able to reveal him was when I got hooked. (Not even marked)

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

Wouldn’t that just be the equivalent of openly admitting “we matched you against players who are worse than you because the matchmaking system sucks”?

Can’t we just improve the matchmaking system instead?

There is nothing to admit. It's pretty much a fact at this point. Sometimes the MMR fails, and it fails badly.

A better matchmaking would be ideal but it's next to impossible. The pool of players isn't infinite so sometimes the system is missing "pieces" to get a good balance.

    @NewPlayer100102 said:

Apparently they won't fix the matchmaking system, and the most reasonable excuse I've seen is match expediency.

A note to play nice from the system, along with some incentive to play nice, might not seem like much, but it might be just the thing to encourage some non rancid behavior in match, particularly on the killer side, as they play in a void.

As far as a survivor system to the same effect, I do not think you can fix that, its a different type of broken and requires force to fix.

    Yes, I agree.

    @Vagab0ndCat said:

Nope, I consider DBD a competitive game and come from games like Dota, Hunt Showdown etc, which means I give 100% of me in every game, dont give a ######### about being "nice", its nothing personal, I dont go out of my way to make you miserable, I dont even know who you are and dont care either.

Apart from that, I actually consider someone that is "nice" to me in these types of games as if he is "insulting" me by giving me free wins and/or going easy on me, I like to give 100% of me and also take 100% too, I dont want you to give me hatch or willingly open exit gates, I like hard/spicy and interesting games.

I'm all for competition. I just don't enjoy destroying players who didn't stand a chance to begin with.

I understand the "insulting" feeling. I don't like to get offered the hatch and I would loathe getting offered a kill. There are degrees.

When I understand a team is too weak early enough, I try to go for the 11 hooks, round-robin style. I'll also give the hatch (something I tend to do anyway). I'll also be more lenient, feign to not see survivors, hit a wall, ... New survivors have no real expectations and don't understand when a killer acts weird. If I'm Huntress, I'll aim too high. If I'm Nurse (my main on the killer side) I'll walk a lot.

    It wasn't too obvious indeed.

But the way I see it, 10 days, with efforts, is still a limitation.

A way to "copy" it, make it a template, something so the work doesn't go to waste ... would be great.

My favourite killer players are the ones that we (and they) know could wipe the floor with us within a few minutes. So instead they decide to 2 hook everyone before the sacrificing starts. The matchmaking can be so inaccurate sometimes, it's nice when a player recognises they've been matched with players way below their skill level and does their best to make a game of it

It's nice to know. There is a handful of survivors who'd rather get killed immediately but I feel it's a missed opportunity.

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

The “guards go around pallets” thing is a bug, they’re supposed to just go through pallets and windows with only a minor slowdown.

    That's good to know.

Until this is fixed, I'll keep far away from that killer.

  • I had crashes, purely due to game bugs, but never that.

Aslo, you may encounter a cheater once in a while, even 3 times a night at high MMR, but it would never amount to that big of a ban I think.

edit: in case I'm not being explicit enough : if you get that issue very often it's likely it's on your side, be it your "house", or someone "targeting" you (possibly not related to DbD). This includes malwares and house members massively streaming.

  • Analysis?

    Let's see ...

    What were the options?

What options are left after the last changes in the game?

    There you have it.

  • Someone played before you, pissed the guy off to no end and he couldn't do anything about it.

That being said, hitting the hook is pretty lame.

  • No. Any addon-dependent killer is worthless in my book.

What, you have to farm to make it usable? Hell no.

  • @FMG15 said:

You probably all have the feeling of not wanting to play the game whenever the killer brings a midwich offering and the survivor a GoJ offerings. It's just not fun to play on maps over and over again that favors the other side quite heavily. And it's also quite obvious that both sides mainly bring offerings to have an easier game. Now what would be my idea to make map offerings less annoying? By making them do the opposite. Rather than increasing the chance to get sent to a realm it should decrease the chance to get sent to a realm. That way no one could use map offerings to get an advantage and you can select which map you want to avoid especially those that are really terrible to play on (I'm looking at you GoJ and Midwich).

But there is a reason this is not happening and that's justified: Achievements. It would take an incredible amount of time until you can get the Outbreak Breakout achievement without the usage of map offerings. So my idea is obviously not going to work in practice. The only really working solution is to keep balancing the maps to make it fair for the other side as well.

I fully agree with the proposal. It's not the first time it has been made if I recall (maybe by you in fact, I don't remember.)

The achievements being slow to get isn't an issue.

For a long time, the 3-blink-grab Nurse achievement has only been possible with a perk that also disabled going trough wall. Imagine how slow a survivor has to be to get grabbed by a 3-blink Nurse he sees coming for far away.

Or the infamous Evil Incarnate achievement that can be so easily denied.

It has been said several times that if an achievement is at all possible, then it's "fine".

The way she moves... Yeah I agree, is pretty awful. I really liked how she moved in the trailer, almost arrogant, but in game...

I completely accept there is no accounting for taste* but I really can't stand that face/mask.

For some reason the mask itself is reminiscent of some old animation (https://trokenheim.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/0604.jpg) except in silver/aluminium, and it gives it an even more kitsch feeling.

Console player can't attach evidence you figure this would be fixed by now

You can't record a video then upload it to youtube?

(I've never tried to do that with my consoles, so I don't know)

Or is it you can't report at all?

    Usually what you do is:

1 - record a video of the game

    2 - report in game

3 - upload the video to youtube

4 - report with additional information filling the form and pointing to the video

  • The only way to fix these tactics is to make the other ones viable.

That is, exactly the opposite of what has been done the last few months and what will be done in the next update.

Once you go against good teams, you have no choice to play efficiently, and since every other tool has been nerfed or made useless, well, what else can you do?

I've not played since the 1st of this month yet because of that very reason (I don't like to tunnel nor to be tunnelled).

If today I play (I'm having an overdose of what I'm playing right now), I'll probably tunnel from the start. (edit: just saying that makes me want to play something else ...)

  • I just need to point out, although I'm not sure I would give such a low score for the 2nd and 3rd categories (although probably not much higher), I find the design absolutely awful.

    The mask feels so fake.

(And the way it walks in the end game is kind of ridiculous)
