The crystals aren't that interesting. Already got hard tunneled 3 trials in. So it's basically par for the course.

Glad to hear killers are bringing the spirit of fun and mutual enjoyment with them.

    AFAIK, the PTB did continue.

The data probably lead to the same conclusion, hence the lack of updates on the system as of now.

Yet despite whatever data they gathered, the Tenacity and OTR nerfs that were clearly intended to be in conjunction with the tunneling and slugging changes went through. The hook states for killers were also obviously connected. Krasue was buffed into a state that made her instantly dispised. All these elements combined have instead made tunneling even more prevalent in my survivor matches and, it would seem, in many other people's. So the data gathered was either poor, its implementation was far from optimal, or BHVR is tragically incompetent.

How many matches do you think occurred on the PTB in that time frame?

It's not a stretch to say that they had thousands of matches worth of data in that time frame if even a very small portion (ie 1% - 5%) of the Steam player base played any number of games on the PTB.

Why not let it go on for longer and gather even more? What was it hurting? If you truly intend to rework something, there's no reason not to have as much possible.

The extremely limited participants, many performing for social media, is also part of the issue. It's not just normal, average playing going on on the ptb. Some variation coming to live would create a true understanding of normal people interacting with the system.

  • Play game→receive BP→acquire item→play game. I'd understand if BP was good for anything else and items weren't amply available.

Oddly the cosmetics seem fine - bunny feng is still her usual self appearance-wise. At least there's that, lol.

I'd play survivor, get wrecked by the "usual suspects" then play against a baby killer and feel bad for them. Repeat.

Playing killer, similar story. I'd play a few games and get absolutely humbled then slaughter a bunch of survivors who panic the second they hear the terror radius. Repeat.

I haven't had a truly close game in a long time, it's just constant "stomp or be stomped" and that's exhausting, at least for me.

This is my experience as well. I just want to be on an equal playing field. But I either feel like I'm massacring a playground or like I'm the child in the playground massacre. There's little inbetween.

No. That's not acceptable, because if a patch happened that massively raised kill rates, you know survivors would be complaining non-stop until the changes were reverted.

The actual solution is to figure out a balanced system, which includes the adjustments, and test it on the PTB to see if the kill rates are similar to the average PTB. And if the kill rates are too low, then you delay phase 2 even further until another set of adjustments can be made.

BHVR doesn't ever need for phase 2 to go live before its' ready. It only takes a couple of days on the PTB to figure out if the changes are completely out of control or not. The kill rates on the last PTB were massively lower than average, and it's not because killers "didn't adapt", it's because the PTB was completely out of control.

And how meaningful do you think two days of data gathering from a select audience was?

  • Hell, I may do this.

    Minus the tunneling and slugging.

  • Since the pallet update I've been playing as Wraith, Spirit, and Dredge and I haven't had any real issues. If anything, a lot of unsafe and stupid predrops are boosting me.

The void has been nerfed further for survivors. And apparently I got attacked by a prop or something which gave me hindered too.

Woooow. I think I'll just do the quests and whatnot as killer then.

  • I haven't had a chance to play it yet but I'm guessing I'll do what I do every event: play enough to unlock stuff and not a bit more.

  • The only way they could possibly pull this off is if the Rift was stellar and absolutely packed with good stuff and currently everyone hates it so...

I know I get a lot of heat for it, but there really is some psychological component to Killer mains that I don't fully understand. But it does manifest often times as looking like main character syndrome. And I think appealing to that as strongly as BHVR has for the last several years is really aging the game incredibly fast.

I'm going to disclaimer and say that I fully recognize that this isn't a blanket statement, but it does seem to apply to a small, select (and insanely loud) group. I take that to be what you meant too, but just for anyone else reading, to be clear.

I read it as an ego thing for some people, or possibly narcissism. Some takes on here just don't make sense unless you consider that select individuals begin with the premise that they are "Max MMR" gods at the game, and are entitled to win every match.

If they lose, or even struggle, in even one single match, it can't be that they have to improve... That's impossible, because you can't improve on perfection. The only solution to this is that the game inherently must be unfair.

And, because this is a wound to ego (or in some cases narcissistic injury), it gets expressed as pure emotional response, usually anger and outrage.

Which is also why this group is dead set against anything that isn't a pure killer buff or survivor nerf.

They've deluded themselves into believing that the game is broken already, because the only other option is that they, maybe, possibly, might not be as good at the game as they think they are.

And that's not even something they can consider.

I've had conversations with friends about this. The killer role, being a solo power role that is essentially the central focal point of the match around which everything else revolves, attracts a certain sort of person. It has to be a minority. I'm far from the type, and many killer players express a sort of performance anxiety on the forums. I just like horror, and I was a killer-only player for awhile because I did so bad at everything in survivor that I didn't want to be damaging to a team. I preffered being responsible solely for my own outcome. But some of these people have projected themselves onto these killers in kind of a creepy way and any threat to the identity they associate with winning as them is earth shattering.

Meh… entity… protecting? Rather than being forced to do so… which implys something like offering and perks rather than default thing

It could be the Entity wanting the trial to drag out to feed longer. Hope is neccessary too. It could also be a protective spell surviors learned from someone like Vigo. That wouldn't be bad as a perk.

  • @tes said:

I don’t really want to discuss technical and logical appliance to it, because it may find their use

    Just my personal issue

I don’t really like this idea from aesthetic side. I just can’t see survivors a complete ghost in the game. It was SO artificial with elusive in PTB, as well as the way how they hid UI of hooks. No matter how hard I tried to convince myself otherwise. Yes, I believe in magic healing hands even more than ghost survivors

If one day it will be added, probably I’ll be that person who wouldn’t be able to fully accept this feature. Just my personal meh

I think from a lore perspective it would be kinda perfect, if you give it some magical aspect to the visuals. Like the survivor has been protected by a temporary spell or something.

  • A fast bleedout option is long overdue.

I couldn't care less about bully squads and I dont know who really does. Honestly, I wish I'd land one, but MMR doesn't seem to feed them to me anymore.

I had one a little bit back (first game on killer in a while actually). Three survivors with flashlights, head on or background player, flashbangs, slow leaving lockers, etc. while the 4th did the gens.

It was fine. I get that some people feel like it breaks the 'immersion' of the killer role as survivors don't just run away, but in terms of game mechanics it has more elements to the gameplay.

I also 4ked with Sadako because only one person on gens gave me time to push until they made a mistake. Probably should have been just a 2k, but they went all out on a 4e.

Bully squads are a noob problem.

My only issue with them is the ones who don't even try and win and are happy to intentionally stay at low MMR to bully new killers, but this is likely an incredibly rare occurrence.

I think this term gets thrown about far too liberally. I don't consider aggressive playing to be bullying. They're just confident, coordinated, and capable. I dont approach survivor like that but good for them.

And I think it's as you say, many killers want survivors to scatter in terror from them, not just defiantly stare at them.

My only issue with them is the ones who don't even try and win and are happy to intentionally stay at low MMR to bully new killers, but this is likely an incredibly rare occurrence.

This is the only thing I consider a bully squad. They're going for weak, new killers who don't understand how to deal with sabos, pallet saves, or flashlights. It's not bullying unless your victim is weaker than you.

I probably do come across these teams sometimes and they're simply so ineffectual that I don't even notice. Running Lightborn (and currently Weave and, sometimes, Forced Hesitation) makes these plays not just useless but detrimental, because I see them behind the rock with the Weave and the Hesitation slows them down for me to hit them.

  • This was what I also thought Elusive should shoot for. No body blocking ability. The killer should be able to hit someone else right through the unhooked survivor.

It needs a timer, because someone could essentially rat after one hook and be simply useless the rest of the match by doing zero conspicuous actions. Or they could be in an SWF and follow the killler everywhere and be a massive problem. As others said, they shouldn't be able to interact with anything accept maybe a medkit.

It would need another timer for someone else being hooked, since people are often downed while unhooking. So the killer could toss player 1 on the hook and player 2, who was just unhooked a few seconds ago, would lose the status immediately. That would make it a useless effect.

I'm just brainstorming, but they could make it so the survivor goes to a different realm, like the Void, where there's a healing well. This would cut them off form the match entirely, keeping them safe form the killer, and the killler safe from them, until they heal and are returned to the match. This would also need a fairly quick time limit to prevent ratting.

idk i've started to believe there's an bias by the development team against survivors there's many examples like fog vials, but also how tenacity and OTR were nerfed even with no anti tunneling or slug changes but they didn't nerf the killer perks that also would have been affected by those changes but they did that to survivors lol.

many such cases, they're piling up now actually.

I assume they're biased towards money, and the killer role does the selling.

Well, they're free, so I suppose I would throw Monopoly money out a window, sure. But what better times? Do some lobbies seem better than others? And again, I've never run out of stuff. Even if you die every single match and don't get to keep anything you'll get enough BP for something else.

Judging by community feedback, bully squads aren’t a problem because it’s fun for survivors.

No, it's not a problem because killers don't care.

Aside from you bringing it up exclusively to derail threads about tunnelling, how often do you see complaints about bully squads?

It’s like how killers can’t complain about generator speeds, without people telling them that gen rushing is a hyper specific thing, and they weren’t “really” being gen rushed.

Because every single time, it comes down to 'gens got done and I lost, fix it', with nothing further to add. It's people taking an issue with the survivors having the ability to win the game at all, and that's not something that can be 'fixed'.

And remember that a lot of ragequitting threads get closed for breaking forum rules, and a lot of comments about ragequitting get closed for breaking forum rules.

    I can't remember what hasn't happened.

No, it's not a problem because killers don't care.

This is true for me. I couldn't care less about bully squads and I dont know who really does. Honestly, I wish I'd land one, but MMR doesn't seem to feed them to me anymore. I can't remember the last time I saw one. Bully squads are a noob problem.

But tunneling, I do care about. I see it every time I play survivor. It's more common, effects players throughout MMR levels, and is harder to deal with.

  • @AmpersandUnderscore said:

I'm just going to jump in and point out something about the forums meta here.

This thread. Right here. It's exactly the problem with discussing anything about tunneling.

It applies to far, far more, but you can look at the history of posts on this forum, and every single time recently that there's been a thread gaining traction about survivor issues (which is usually tunneling) we get this:

A completely derailed thread from a small handful of extremely loud and insanely biased (to the point of being just rage bait) commenters who take a thread about "when are we getting the postponed changes" into "punish them harder".

Which wouldn't be so frustrating, except this is the exact kind of tactic that gets anti tunneling pulled (effectively cancelled for all we know at this point) on day 2, and also could get "go next" tuned up to punish even more innocent players with penalties.

You simply cannot have a discussion about this problem because a few people just have to do this:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/9UHBRD7C9SCN/1000010969.jpg

And they'll just keep doing it because it's worked for years.

It's wild that you said this and then the champion of derailing and distracting, right below your comment, again shifts to some irrelevant topic.

  • Killler games where I am are instant and often have a bonus at night. Survivor party queue takes several minutes. Depends on the time of day though.

  • @littlehoot said:

I'm just adding my two cents here but last night, I took notes on my games as survivor.

Of twelve total games, I only had one teammate DC mid game, but I had four games with hard tunnelling and extreme slugging. Two of those games, I also had killers humping downed survivors. Also the bot that replaced that teammate was more helpful for the rest of the game than the original teammate was while they were there.

So quite frankly, given that 'ragequitting' impacted 8% of my games yesterday, while tunnelling and slugging impacted 33.3% of my games yesterday, I'm much more concerned with the latter than with teammates DCing.

It's almost as though one issue is seriously affecting the games health and the other is overblown.

I had 6 killer matches today. One match had two peopele bot out. Another had one. In both instances, the team was cooked. There was zero hope. It had no impact on the assured outcome.

I alternated between killer and survivor Saturday afternoon to get an idea of the pallet changes from both sides. I obviously didnt get all the maps but of the ones I did, it was really only Father Campbell's Chapel that I felt a noticeable difference on. I got that one as survivor and the killer seemed to have a rough go of it.

If anything, I'm experiencing sometimes comical amounts of predrops as killer. I had a Sable recently who predropped six pallets in a row while continously running straight to the next one, as though I was obligated to break them before proceeding. She didn't last long. It's making bad players do stupider things.

I think I might have to run Windows for a bit to get a better feel for it from the survivor end.

Most survivors play through their games without frequently ragequitting. They are playing games that are sometimes frustrating, but they still play through the games. These survivors deserve to be in games with other survivors that will actually play through games, even if they might be frustrating.

And again, the frequent ragequitters being placed together, is the perfect Go Next solution. Anyone that thinks it's fine to ragequit, should be happy to be with other people that also think it's fine to ragequit. They can ruin each other's games, and the rule-abiding survivors that want to play out their games, won't need to suffer the awfulness people that selfishly ragequit.

Why am I quoted here? Who are you talking to? I'm totally indifferent to this idea of yours, though it would also punish people who have internet issues or DC for reason that don't involve "rage".

I want to know if your insider knowledge on why people quit is based on anything other than vibes. If your soloq, you shouldn't have much communication with your teammates, especially if they leave the match early.

I, on the other hand, am not soloqing, so I can tell you that 95% of the times my partymates DC intentionally it's because of tunneling.

To be fair, that literally doesn't matter if it guarantees you make it to the next window/pallet.

It's only really applicable for Survivors who don't understand how to use them properly, and just sit there waiting for the Killer to hit them.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4013933#Comment_4013933

I mean the thing with Survivor vs Killer addons is that there can be 4 of one type of addon in a match at once. So 4 Syringes/Styptics etc.

I commonly see them stacked, I'll usually have at least 2 Survivors bring either a Styptic or a Syringe when I end up seeing them.

I actually can't recall ever seeing the same add-ons on all 4 survivors. I also see more syringes than syptics, as well as BNPs.

It's also super obvious when someone is using a syptic. They often suddenly heal for a second mid chase. It's broadcasted, much like people who suddenly run towards you to use a Dead Hard.

  • @Coffeecrashing said:

No one is being forced to play a match they don't want to play. No one is physically restrained to their computer or console, with a mouse or controller physically glued to their hands. But people absolutely deserve punishments if they ragequit.

And people mainly DC for a selfish reason. Sometimes it's "this map is boring" or "I got chased first" or "I don't like the killer" or "I don't like one of the killer's perks" or "I don't like my teammates" or "I only want to play games where I'm clearly winning". Selfish selfish selfish.

You keep saying this yet you have zero evidence, only assumptions, as to why people quit.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

You mention skill expression, but only in regards to survivors.

no i did not, i just spoke from the survivor pov. i could've said "if you as the krasue player fail to get the down in time you lose" this would be about skill expression from the killer side. that's what makes this killer balanced. she's not a no effort killer like some people claim. if you play her cluelessly you will lose fast because a good survivor team can exploit her weaknesses.

is much more punishing to miss.

that depends, if the survivor is healing the infection then missing as the krasue is a lot more punishing than missing as wesker. wesker has the ability to snowball only limited by his power's cooldown and loops. krasue's snowball is limited by her power's own unique weakness + the other things.

when you really think about krasue's power you realize it's not even that insane anymore. loops still work against her, you just have to play differently. sure some loops are worse, some are better that's how it is with every killer. her mobility isn't that impressive too because it has a charge system.

and about the autoaim like i said earlier it really doesnt make that big of a difference. they can remove the autoaim if they want. if you miss the first actual shot the autoaim doesnt do much anyway. this is not autoaim like homing missile directly at the survivor, it's just the ricochet part direction. it's not gonna make up for bad aim, it just makes her slightly easier.

seriously, i feel like the people that complain about krasue even after the nerfs she got don't make a sound when it comes to hillbilly who's not even that hard to play and is much better in pretty much every aspect. nobody cares about hillbilly getting a 4k slug at 4-5 gens but people are so instantly ready to call krasue better than nurse just because she is actually a good killer that actually rewards skilled gameplay and forces survivors to play a little differently.

I'd much, much rather go against Billy. Curving isn't easy and there's ton's of junk for him to hit and knock him out of power. It takes practice and skill to play as both Billy and Nurse. Krasue hasn't even been around long enough for people to become experts. She's instantly useable though. Hop on Billy or Nurse for the first time and you'll likely do terribe. Hop on a newer killer like Krasue, Kaneki, or Dracula and you've got a good chance at winning. Killers that require practice aren't very common anymore. They're giving people instant gratification instead.

  • Because strong add-ons are a thing on both sides?

If your example is equivalent, the Exposed would only be one time use and would also have a delay in kicking in.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4013857#Comment_4013857

wesker doesnt need an infection to injure with his power, and also, the survivors can move during the healing phase to compensate for the timer.

when you are uninfected against krasue, she has to go into body form, land the infection, go back into head form, catch up the distance lost, then she can properly chase with a power, which isn't even that oppressive anymore after the nerfs. the whole process stops her from snowballing. the skill expression is in the fact that if you survive her long enough during the healing timer then you get a massive reward as a survivor in that she basically loses her power. however if she gets the down, then the infection resets which is balanced because if she hooks the infection goes away anyway. if she slugs to keep the infection that's fine too because it's a trade, the killer is giving up a hook state to go for a higher reward but a higher loss if she doesn't play it well. absolutely balanced in my opinion.

i dont have a strong opinion about the auto aim because it doesn't really guarantee hits it's just a nice thing to have. even if the autoaim was removed, the spit ricochet must be kept the same, otherwise it would be a gigantic unneeded nerf on top of the current nerfs.

Sure, but Wesker's power is significantly easier to dodge and is much more punishing to miss. All she has to do is spit again. I'd rather survivors be stationary for recovery with a faster removal. It's not that easy to just stop mid-chase with that head hurtling toward them to grab a mushroom if they dont have one, so moving isn't that helpful. The timer is way too long for something that takes zero effort to land.

Nobody should have autoaim. The game shouldn't be playing itself. You mention skill expression, but only in regards to survivors. Autoaim lacks skill expression. A ricochet like Unknown's is fine because you have to be skillful with it and is potentially dodgeable. That's mutual skill expression. The Krause's I've gone against have just been spewing anywhere knowing they'll get it eventually if they keep trying. Compare to Plague's purge, which is plentiful, yet is easy to dodge.

Not sure, though I've seen people on here use any justification to tunnel someone out.

For me, going empty handed is more of a throw back to before the hatch rework, where, since every key looks identical, just bringing a key into the lobby was a giant neon "tunnel me out" sign that you were trying to escape as soon as the hatch was available.

Even with broken key, still same result.

Not that I always went without an item. If I brought an item at all, my go to was a medkit unless I was going for a specific challenge.

I'd say most of the time I went empty handed, but I also used residual manifest and flashbang, which were best used if you go in with nothing.

Haven't played survivor in over a year now though, so I think flashbang stacks with your item iirc.

Yeah well, those people will make literally any excuse. Perks they don't like. Characters. Cosmetics. They will invent a reason.

I guess I feel if a lobby is already tilting you before the match even starts, just dodge it? If I'm playing killer, I find the lack of items more suspicious. One or two toolboxes is whatever. Four is a problem. Medkits on soloqers feel like a requirement since you can't trust these randoms to heal you. I'm actually really bothered as killer when I find someone still injured two minutes after an unhook. Like where is your team? I'd rather them heal. It feels unfair, like bad teamwork is winning me the match (which i guess is often the case.) Maps are usually for booning and those perks don't worry me. Fog vials are borderline throwing. The only item I side eye—but as survivor—is keys. It's not a guarantee, but I'm ready for a rat when I see one.

  • I keep hoping I'll accidentally run into someone but I never know if they'll have the same name.

It can depend. Historically the Killer seems to go for Survivors holding first and foremost, but the "rules" change over time.

I guess the logical thing to me, if you're choosing a tunnel target, would be to go for the worst at chase, not the item you hate the most. Running Weave recently has shown me most people use their toolboxes immediately, so there's kinda no point in targeting them.

Burning through my items for no difference is just unreasonable.

What are you stockpiling them for though? I bring an item to every match and I still have thousands of items and add-ons. It's not like you're going to run out, and BP isn't good for anything else.

I honestly think it's a matter of perspective, and opinion.

You aren't arguing that it's "more efficient" or meta, which would have some basis. You're just arguing your opinion and somehow I'm wrong.

Personally, I prefer to be empty handed to lay low and let the killer decide in the lobby to tunnel one of the people with toolboxes instead.

Is this actually a thing? I've never judged anyone for a toolbox. And by the time you get to them they've probably used it already. I feel like most of the tunnels I see are the first unlucky person the killer hooks.

Ive had some success with fogvials since the nerf, not much tho. Its now extremely situational and position based to get any value out of it. Like if the killer is coming from afar and your near an area with lots of walls to hide behind you could use it to sneak behind something quickly before he gets there. Otherwise if hes alredy too close it doesnt do much lol. I think it still hides ur aura tho, so if ur trying to loop a nurse it might help a bit. Otherwise using it to avoid bbq just makes this big cloud that says "yea were over here" lol

This is what makes them useless to me. You MIGHT get value, but I always get value with medkits and toolboxes, so why change? They also, as you said, often broadcast your location. The other items don't harm me. Worse case I miss the BNP skill check. Oh no.

    • The only truly strange "complaint" is the 4-month duration of the rift. Many players complained last rift that they didn't have time to complete it, and here in the forum you'll find a thread with literally HUNDREDS of people upset that they didn't have enough time. So now we have to decide... is 3 months fair or too short? Or is 4 months too long?

I think the issue was that is was taking too long/was too hard to progress. Personally, I don't want more than three months as I'm usually done in three weeks, but I want everyone to have time to finish it without it lingering for too long.

  • She needs to lose the autoaim and the mushrooms need to work like first aid sprays. Why do they still take three business days to work?

No money from me until I'm guaranteed to get it back to use on the next Rift. Not worth the money otherwise

I recycled my auric cells from the last one because I know I'll finish it, but even with three characters I use I would not have paid money for this.

Be careful what you wish for, some of us only bring an item when we're running a silly meme build (a med-kit so I can guarantee at least 1 self heal, if you're wondering).

But don't worry, my pebble plays are gonna carry the team. Trust me.

True. If I have a flashlight or a fog vial it's 100% clown time. That flashlight is solely for shining into the sky.

  • This is why I bring Lab Photo as Wesker. The vault is crap. I'd rather the pallet be gone. I still bounce off the window pathetically though. I'd certainly like a change there. Missing his power is punishing enough without things that aren't your fault making it worse.

I don't think asking for a fast vault on some killer powers is unreasonable, if they're not already super juiced with mobility and other powers (no for Vecna, Kaneki, or Krasue). It does indeed work with Legion because their power is simplistic.

I don't know, but I hope soon. I don't have a lot of faith in that, but I can hope.

Me and my friends (5-6 of us), all of which were playing for hours almost daily either in a party or in solo queue, have all basically stopped playing completely. Ever since they walked back on the anti-tunnel and anti-slugging measures, the uptake in both hard tunnelling and slugging have been so awful, we've all kind of been put off. Including the friend who'd been playing for years who got me into the game.

Playing survivor just feels like being punished, so on the rare occasions I've gotten on the game lately, I barely last two games before I've had enough.

I have some friends I was playing with every night for hours, for months. They've also been playing for years, almost the length of the games existence. I see them on less and less, for shorter periods. One of them gets mad about the tunneling and ragequits regualrly. Then he's just gone for the night. I have some others who have trickled away recently too. I'm playing killer more and more. It's getting gloomy. If I run out of friends I guess I'm a killer-only player again.
